A Guide to TV Wall Mounts

A wide variety of choices are available in TV wall mounts. You need to be aware of what you want before actually stepping in to the store or beginning your search online. This article discusses the various types of flat screen TV wall mounts and their uses.

The Fixed Wall Mount – This is the wall mount that keeps the TV mounted close to the wall. They have a very low profile. They are less than an inch thick and keep your TV neatly secured to the wall. Since it’s fixed, it cannot be moved and you cannot adjust the screen angle. This mount is best suited for spacious rooms that allow mounting at a low height.

The Tilting Wall Mount – Tilting wall mounts are best suited for rooms that require the TV to be at a fixed height. You may choose to do this because of space constraints or to enhance aesthetics of particular features of your room (like a fireplace). Tilting flat screen TV wall mounts allow tilting a maximum of 15 degrees. This is nice because you can set it at the right viewing angle or adjust it from reflecting light from windows. They’re also usually thicker in depth than fixed mounts.

The Tilt and Swivel Wall Mount – This is the advanced version of tilting wall mount that allows rotation of the TV sideways. The TV can be tilted up/down and rotated sideways giving you the freedom to choose a viewing position. It is best suited for small sized TVs, up to 32 inches.

The Cantilever Wall Mount – The ultimate in flat screen TV wall mounts is the cantilever mount. In addition to allowing up/down, left/right maneuverability to the TV, it also allows freedom in distance from the wall. It has an arm attached to it that allows pulling and pushing of the TV forwards and backwards. This allows viewing from all corners of the room. It is usually used in situations where the viewing angle needs to be adjusted to allow viewing from multiple angles.

The Ceiling Mount – This mount is best suited for public places and it attaches the TV to the ceiling. It is the mount that holds suspended plasmas that you so often see in malls, airports, train stations, nightclubs, bars etc. It allows the TV to be installed at a height in public places where it remains out of reach.

From all the options explained here, you can now decide on the type of TV wall mount that fits your needs and offers the optimum viewing experience.
