Android Essential Apps For a Connected Society

The android operating system is many different things to many people and seeing as the android market is now so powerful it can be slightly intimidating trying to find your way around. No more so than when you're looking for those essential apps that, without, your life would obviously fall apart!

Android phones are becoming very popular these days. So popular in fact that in August of 2010 it was announced that Google was activating 200,000 android devices every day. Staggering! The Android revenue stream for Google is nothing short of astounding (or sickening if you're Steve Jobs).

There are thousands of apps to choose from and while the default Google apps do come in handy, the android market has some truly revolutionary applications some of which you will wonder how you ever managed without! Here is a very quick look at some of the more useful ones.

– Google Maps & Navigation: Need to quickly find your way to that important meeting? This android app makes it a cinch. Simply hit the microphone icon on your screen and say where you want to go. Within a couple of seconds you will be on your way with the directions being read out to you. This is a navigation app of the next generation.

– Dolphin Browser HD: Do not get me wrong, android's default browser is perfectly fine but if you fancy trying out a different browser on your phone then the Dolphin browser has a few little features which improve the browsing experience somewhat. You can block ads, send articles to "read it later" and many other nifty little timesaving features make this browser well worth checking out.

– Astrid: How is your memory these days? If it's anything like mine then you need some help! This little application is a simple to-do manager which is very easy to use, allows you to make detailed notes and reminders and most importantly, or most annoyingly, simply does not stop reminding you until you have completed those essential tasks. It does feel a little bit like you are being nagged all the time but do you actually want to get those things done or not?

I found these three android apps to be very useful but there is a whole world out there and you are bound to find the application that you need in the market place. Just try not to get lost in there!
