Plank Bamboo Flooring – The Green Flooring Option

Stronger than traditional hardwood, and just as good looking, plank bamboo flooring is fast becoming the favorite option for those who want wooden flooring, but not at the high price. Bamboo flooring can easily be mistaken for wood flooring. A grass that matures in five years, bamboo is a natural flooring option that is eco-friendly, unlike trees that take several years to mature. With its distinct appearance, bamboo also looks very elegant and stylish and depending on the décor, can look quite trendy or antique, just like seasoned wood floors.

With its origins in Asia, bamboo floors for kitchen have been their traditional flooring for centuries. It is abundantly available and is a renewable resource. It lasts long and is not difficult to take care of. Bamboo being a wood derivative has the same appeal as wood flooring but at a far lesser price. This is because bamboo is easier to grow repeatedly, compared to wood or timber.

Plank bamboo flooring has proven itself to be more durable than oak and maple. Unlike wood flooring, bamboo does not easily absorb moisture and is more resistant to getting damaged and this makes it easier to maintain without the use of chemicals that may harm it.

Plank bamboo flooring is made of bamboo strips. These strips are split, and then compacted. After this they are laminated and glued together. A UV coating treatment is given, after which it is glossed and sanded. This is ideal for flooring because the planks are made at high pressure. When these planks are laminated, they become even more durable and resistant to scratches and warping.

With its natural looks, plank bamboo flooring has charming patterns and natural color shades, ranging form light to dark caramel. The bamboo can achieve a dark shade through carbonizing during a pressure steaming process. The colors tend to be inherent in the planks, so the planks usually not need to be stained at the time of refinishing. Most bamboo plank are also available in blue, green, orange etc. at higher costs. In bamboo, you can get unfinished as well as finished planks.

Looking after plank bamboo flooring is simple. It has to be set free from dust particles. About the only thing to watch out for is discoloration over time. But some people like the way that looks. You can refinish it by applying a de-glosser followed by a fresh coat of finish.

Depending on the manufacturer you go in for, these planks may be available with the prominent bamboo nodes that give the planks their unique appearance. The solid as well as the engineered planks resemble oak flooring and are easy to install. You can install your bamboo planks on an existing concrete flooring by gluing or floating. If there is an existing wood floor, it can be nailed down on it.

Which Sport is the Hardest on Your Body?

My jaw drops every time Roger Federer returns a crushing serve at 130-140 mph to his opponent. For some, matching Bobby Jones’s classic elegant swing is equivalent to reaching the epitome of sporting success. But calling tennis or golf or any other the hardest sport is debatable. I personally believe that running a marathon is the toughest sport out there.

Agreed, all other sports like baseball, rugby or golf require finely-tuned mental and physical co-ordination and each tests you at different levels of strength, stamina and psychological prowess. But none of them push the limit like running 26.2 miles under 3 hours, in a climate that may or may not be conducive to comfort and without a single pit stop. Nor is there any technology to lean on. It’s just you and your body against the elements-from the start to the finish line.

“The Mile Has All The Elements Of A Drama!” said Sir Roger Gilbert Bannister, a former athlete who couldn’t have put it better. Dedication, determination, exhilaration, pain, action and emotion, you name it.

Unlike baseball or golf where the main focus is to match hand-eye movement and complement it with a stroke that is pure brute power, or adapt and change your strategy tactically in tennis and NASCAR racing, a marathon I believe is the hardest sport on the body. There are several reasons why.

First, most runners train on hard, concrete ground. The pounding legs and joints feel every time feet touch the pavement and leap back up is at least four times a runner’s body weight. And this continues for the entire distance!

Secondly, there are no 10-minute rest room breaks, fuel recharge pit stops or injury time outs or replacements. Yes, one might engage in a slower pace or walk while entering the midpoint of a race. But pull to a complete stop and recovering lost time is out of the question.

Next comes the long, winding road. A 26-mile run is a daunting task, even for a seasoned marathoner. Putting the body through a test like this for a stretch of three hours entails physical and mental exhaustion to the brink of pain and numbness.

Many tend to simply switch off their brains, distancing themselves from the pain. This may work for some, but most of the best athletes refrain from doing so. Yes, they feel the pain too. But they choose to accept the aches, tune their bodies to adapt to each situation and reach the finish line. This is what makes for an elite runner.

Where’s the strategy involved? In a tennis match, strategy is critical to break the opponent’s game. That strategy needs to be modified every time rivals decide to spring a surprise. So, if Andre Agassi capitalized on his serve and volley tactics, Pete Sampras had to rely on more than his super-smooth aces to stay put in the game.

Similarly, during a marathon it is crucial to strategize the entire route to protect the body from burnout. Some runners make the mistake of going too fast in the beginning to take the lead, they run the risk of losing fuel mid way and lagging off at the finish line.

What makes running the best sport of all is that everyone is a winner. Oh yes, there are the proverbial 1st, 2nd and runner up spots, but the ephemeral experience of a race well run is unexplainable. And for anyone still unconvinced, put on your tennis shoes and hit the streets!

ADHD Teens: What the EF! Executive Functions Skill: Time Management

Executive functions (EF) skills are skills required to help perform or accomplish everyday life tasks. These skills are controlled by the frontal lobe of the brain just behind the forehead. The frontal lobes are the last areas of the brain to fully develop. Executive functions skills begin to develop in infancy and continue to mature into early adulthood.

Time Management, according to dictionary.com, is the analysis of how working hours are spent and the prioritization of tasks in order to maximize personal efficiency in the workplace.

For the student, time management is the examination and determination of how their waking / studying hours are spent, how they rank the tasks that they need to do to get then done in the most effective and productive way possible.

No one is born with a sense of time. It is something that can be learned over time (pardon the pun). For those of us with ADHD who do not "feel" time, time management can be a challenge.

Time really can not be managed. It just is. It is more about managing yourself and your tasks.

When posed with the question, "How would you define time?" Albert Einstein replied, "When you sit with a nice girl for two hours, it seems like two minutes.

Do a task analysis if you are not sure how long it may take to do a task. To do a task analysis you need to break the task down into smaller parts (chunking), decide what tools, skills or strategies needed to complete each part, and allow for time to do each part.

When a teen has difficulties with time management, it is hard for them to:

  • Get out the door in the morning
  • Estimate how long an activity or task will take – from start to finish
  • Break the task down into smaller parts
  • Tell time (analog and digital)
  • Make and follow a schedule
  • Guess how long it will take to complete an assignment

We can help our teens strengthen their executive functions skill of time management by using the following strategy, SCHEDULE :

  • Sort activities / tasks
  • Calculate how long each activity / task will take
  • Hunt down hidden factors
  • Establish routines
  • Delegate tasks
  • Use a planner
  • Listen to yourself
  • Eliminate tasks

Repeat process or go ahead to the next challenge that you need to address with the ADHD teen in your life.

How to Attach a Zinc Frame to Stained Glass

A zinc frame on stained glass panels is essential for structure and rigidity. The zinc frame is added once the design is cut, foiled and soldered. The process of adding a zinc frame is accomplished by following seven steps.

  1. First, measure the length of zinc came needed for each side.
  2. Then, decide if you want straight cuts or mitered cuts for the corners.
  3. Using a came saw or a fine tooth hack saw, cut the zinc came to the length and angle you need. Initially, you may want to cut the pieces long then re-cut once you dry fit the came to the stained glass piece.
  4. Once you have all the zinc came cut and fitted to your piece, insert the glass into the came channels and hold zinc in place using t-pins. If you are using Handy Hangers, you would insert them into the came corners during this step.
  5. Now flux the corners of the came frame and all the solder seams that touch the frame
  6. Then, solder each joint of the frame and the adjacent solder seams.
  7. Once, the first side is done, carefully turn the piece over and repeat the process on that side.

To apply hanging rings to the zinc frame, lightly flux the ring and the area of the frame where the ring will be attached. The area in which you attach the rings should be where the zinc frame meets a solder seam. Next, solder the rings to the zinc frame. Be sure the ring extends over the edge of the frame. If you are going to add a wood frame to the stained glass piece do not attach rings to the zinc frame.

Hanging rings can be purchased or easily made by using copper or silver wire. To make your own hanging rings, wrap wire around a pencil or other object to get the diameter you need. Then simply cut it, making a small circle. If you need stronger rings, cut two or three lengths of wire and twist them together. The twisting can be done easily by placing one end of the strands in a vice and the other end into the chuck of a drill. Rotate slowly until the desired amount of twisting is completed. Then wrap the twisted wire around a pencil or other object and cut.

After zinc frame is attached, be sure to use flux remover and remove all flux residue.

Some areas of concern:

Please note that zinc frames are available in different sizes, widths. Each one, however, laps over the edge of the glass the same amount. So, the only reason for going to a larger width is looks. Additional strength may be collected if your stained glass piece is extremely large. Any piece over 30 "wide or tall should definitely be framed in the largest size zinc frame available.

Mitered cuts look better in my opinion, especially if you are not using a wood frame. Actually miter cuts are not that much harder to accomplish, so why not be professional in the first place? Small electrical frame cutters, 2 "blade, are available for around $ 20. This is worth it in my opinion.

When mounting frame on your art work, be sure that all sizes of the glass are secured into the full depth of the zinc frame. Otherwise, you will experience dissatisfaction after you sold the pieces together. As mentioned, T-pins are suggested to be sure and hold the frame tightly anchored to edge of the glass and deep into the channel of the zinc frame.

When soldering the corners or the seam lines connecting the frame, you will see a slight rise to the solder. It is common to see the actual solder at these points, but after patina is applied, these blend together and look fine. Be careful as to not build up too much sold at these locations or this may be highly visible when finished.

After soldering the first side and then turning the art work over to solder the second side, examine the frame to see that it is in the correct position before soldering. Sometimes it can get "adjusted" when you turn the piece over.

I highly suggest the using hanging rings that have been twisted together as these are much stronger and tend not to pull apart after the art work has been hanging for some time. I have experienced single wire hooks actually failing and a piece or two has dropped and broken. Save yourself grief (take it from me) and only use the twisted, therefore stronger hanging rings.

If using a wood frame, a better look is always produced by mitering the corners of the wood. Simple 45 degree cuts on the end of all frame members easily accomplish this. When mechanically attaching these pieces of frame, I strongly suggest the use of a good carpenter's glue and one screw for long term hanging safety. Additionally, wood frames come in all sizes, including width, thickness and specie of wood. Decide how you want to finish them, paint or stain. This will enable you to use the right wood for the right job and not end up painting oak wood. Oak is too expensive and beautiful to hide under paint in my opinion. Mechanical hanging fasteners that include screws into the wood should be used.

Tips On Church Banner-Making: Permanent Application Process of Your Designs/Letters

This article is a continuation of basic church banner making processes. Here I will share details on how to permanently apply your already prepared designs to your banner background without sewing. As you may recall from previous articles, your patterns were used to trace and cut out your designs from fabrics that you have ironed fusible transwebbing to the back side.

First, you will need a flat, clean surface to work on, preferably one large enough to accommodate the size of your banner. You will need to make the surface “ironing friendly”. This means you can either place a large ironing pad or large towel on the surface so that you can safely iron on it without damaging the surface area. Tip: Be sure the area is free of crumbs or wet spots or any other foreign matter. I recommend keeping all food and drinks out of the area entirely. Nothing is more disappointing than having a beautiful, almost finished banner ruined by wet spots or food that leaves oily spots!

You will also need a straight edge ruler or yard stick, several straight pins, an iron, transparent paper (or drafting paper), and fabric paint that comes in a squeeze bottle, like Tulip fabric paint.

Begin by placing your letters and design on the laid-out background where you think they will look the best and offer a balanced composition that is pleasing to the eye. To line up words, I use a yard stick and straight pins. I measure the distance from the top of the banner to where I desire the bottom of the letter of the first line of the word/s to appear. I make this same measure on the left and the right sides and mark each one with straight pin. Now I place the yard stick just under those two pins so that it rests directly on the underside of each pin, creating a straight line to place my letters on. Peel the paper backing off of each letter (from the iron-on transwebbing) and place the each letter so that the bottom of the letter rests against the top edge of the yard stick. Use your eye to space your letters/words so they look balanced. If you have more than one line of words, space the lines equally apart using the same method of measuring from the top edge of the banner on left and right sides and marking with a straight pin and then placing the yard stick between the marked pins to form the straight line for your next line of words.

I like to tack each letter with the tip of my heated iron just to insure that it will not accidentally move when I remove the yard stick and work on the next line of words. Once you have the design and letters where you want them, it is time to iron them down.

Do not iron directly on the fabric. Use a piece of paper, preferably transparent paper. I use a leftover large piece of transweb paper that already had the glue side transferred onto a large banner pattern from previous work. If you do not have that, I recommend drafting paper sheets that you can purchase from an office or art supply store. These drafting sheets come in large enough sizes to work well and are transparent enough for you to see your patterns beneath it as you iron. Carefully lay the paper over the laid out patterns and iron them down on medium/high heat (test it first to be sure your iron is not too hot), moving the iron over the design letters until they are fused to the banner background. Moving your iron also keeps from making iron depression marks on the banner. It only takes about a minute to fuse. Remove the paper and move it to the next area until each section is fused thoroughly.

TIP: If a letter shifts out of place while ironing, there is a remedy. Allow the material to cool then try to peel off the letter. If it does not peel off easily, you can use a damp cotton swab or cloth to dampen only the letter or design that needs to be removed. Once dampened, the fusible glue is loosened enough so it should peel off easily and you can reapply it in the corrected position. Try not to dampen too much or you may leave a water mark on the banner background.

Once you have everything ironed in place, you can now make them permanent. I like to use Tulip gold Glitter dimensional fabric paint. I carefully squeeze and drag the tip along the edges of all of the letters and designs to create an even small, smooth bead line of paint that touches the edge of the letter/design shape and connects to the banner background. This creates a permanent adhesion without sewing a stitch! You will want to practice first to get the hang of how much to squeeze and the rate of dragging the tip along the edges. Sometimes the paint will have a bubble or burp of air that you cannot foresee. The Glitter paint type is more forgiving than other colors, because it has a clear base. When a burp happens, you can gently wipe away any excess. So for beginners, use the Glitter Tulip fabric paint. With experience, you will be able to better control the bead line of paint and the “burps”. When you become expert, try using Tulip Slick color paints for a different effect. Practice first.

For large banners that have large letters, you can still get away with not having to sew. In this case you can use fabric glue, like Aleene’s Fabric Glue and a suitable narrow trim for outlining each letter. It is best to use a narrow trim that has the ability to curve, such as a woven trim or single line of sequin trim. First outline one letter at a time with a thin line of glue. Then adhere your trim carefully over the glue so that the trim covers the edge of the letter and overlaps to touch the banner background. When you get to a sharp corner, hold the trim down firmly and create the corner. For some trims, you may want to tack down sharp corners with a tiny dab of hot glue. Then continue with the fabric glue. If using hot glue, be sure to remove all glue “strings” because the “strings’ may later get ironed onto your banner and ruin it.

You have the basics of how to make banners for churches. You have read how to find inspiration for your designs; how to execute your ideas into patterns and how to transfer them onto fabric. You have also read how make your banner background. Now you know how to permanently apply those letters and designs to your background. In future articles, I will share more advanced techniques. The next article will discuss ideas for how to adorn your banner with sparkle and richness.

Stage Lighting

Stage lighting, as can be inferred by the name, refers to the lighting of a stage used for performances like theater, dance, opera and other art forms. Stage lighting is not a matter of mere illumination. A person in charge of stage lighting needs to understand style, balance, aesthetics and also human emotions and psychology. His skills should encompass a thorough understanding of the science of light, optics, vision, perception and lighting technology.

The earliest stage performances were held in open air theater in daylight making use of natural lighting. In fact Greek performers were known to have presented their plays at different times of the day to take advantage of different types of natural light.

Candles, torches, oil lamps and the like came to be used eventually. These cave way to electric lighting in due course of time. The development of the incandescent lamp in the late 1800s set the stage for the development of small portable lighting fixtures. They were used to provide light where needed on stage. When gas lights were used to illumine stage programs, safety was always at stake. Several theaters were reduced to rubble due to fire started by gas lights.

The electric filament lamp, the ellipsoidal reflector, light dimmers and several other fixtures contributed to various stage lighting methods used from time to time. Light sources like xenon, metal halide, fluorescent, induction and sulfur lamps are being used to advantage in stage lighting.

Stage lighting is basically the use of light to create certain predetermined effects while providing the required amount of visibility to the events in stage. Soft lighting, even lighting, localized lighting? These and many more concepts are used to provide the kind of lighting that will be suitable for a particular performance.

Light has certain inherent properties that affect the eye and brain processes, thereby causing feelings and emotions. An understanding of this concept helps in effective stage lighting.

Choose to Love

The movie, Fireproof, leads a disastrous marriage down a triumphant path through a series of selfless acts, which are detailed in the spinoff book, The Love Dare. The husband’s father dares him to perform specific acts of love for a period of time rather than give up on his marriage, which appears to be doomed. The perspective being offered is that it only takes one person making small changes with a loving heart to improve a marriage dramatically. If spouses are focused on the faults of the other person, they miss the point.

Even if your marriage is not on thin ice like the couple’s in the movie, give some thought to whether or not you frequently keep score in your head, i.e. I did that nice thing, now it’s his turn. Or, I always plan vacations and don’t feel appreciated, so I’m not doing it anymore. I once had a friend who kept score of how many chores she and her husband each performed; they are now divorced.

When an unsatisfied store customer asks to see the manager, imagine if the manager argued back that the customer was wrong. The store would lose sales. But when the manager apologizes and meets or exceeds the customer’s expectations, the customer will likely maintain the relationship with the store. The next time your spouse issues a complaint, instead of becoming defensive, try to act like the manager and listen to your spouse to see if you can resolve the issue. And the next time you want to blurt out something nasty or critical to your spouse, think about whether you could say it in a nicer way-or hold your tongue.

Given how busy we all are with work, church, school, homes and children, it’s almost unfair that you are asked to make time to do even small, loving acts for your spouse. If your relationship is like most couples, its priority level has been pushed down a few notches. Realize that you are not just doing it for your spouse, but for yourself and your children, and as an investment in your future. I’ve found in my personal experience and in my interviews with successful couples, feelings follow actions. So, if you’re just not feeling the love today, do it anyway! Choose to behave lovingly, and your feelings will follow. Your spouse may take notice, but even if he or she doesn’t, choose loving actions anyway.

One of my interviewees (who has overcome an addiction and his wife’s life-threatening illness) says he realized it’s the small things that please his wife, like saying something nice in an e-mail. “It’s nothing extraordinary like leaving a trail of petals to the bedroom filled with a thousand candles. We let each other know we’re thinking of the other and that we really care,” he says.

Brainstorm 5 things you could do in less than 10 minutes. Then act on one thing. Do you believe one person can begin to change a marriage, or does it take two?

Choosing Hardwood Flooring or Carpeting

If you are looking for hardwood flooring in Bucks County, you should consider whether you want old-fashioned hardwood flooring or newer models. Getting wood floor in Bucks County can mean getting engineered flooring. This flooring has a plywood-type base, usually made of good quality base wood, and then has a "wear layer" on top of it. This wear layer is actual hardwood and is the part of the floor people will see. Hardwood flooring in It designed with this engineered model in mind is easier to install and easier to repair small pieces.

Should you find that you want to get wood floor in Bucks County that does not have the engineered quality to it, then you can consider whether you need or want a hard or soft wood. While soft woods tend to look better, they are easily easily, making them poor choices for most homes with heavy traffic.

Talk to a few people with hardwood flooring in Bucks County if you can find friends or neighbors who have gone this route. You should ask about how their choices have held up with the weather in your area and if they wish they had done something differently. Also ask about re-finishing and upkeep. Some hardwood flooring types require little maintenance and need re-finishing only every 10 years or so while others will need that work done more often.

When you are buying a carpet in Bucks County, be sure that you consider the length of the naps, or strands, on the carpeting. Longer lengths will feel plusher but will wear out quickly while short naps will keep the carpet from matting when furniture is placed over it.

Another consideration for carpet in Bucks County is the tightness of the stitching in the carpeting. In general tighter stitches are better because the carpeting should stay together better. In somewhere with cold weather, tighter stitching also is good because it will keep the carpet drier when people are coming in with snow and ice on their boots.

Carpet color also matters if you will have people in and out of your home frequently. If you choose white carpet, be prepared to vacuum it often and to have people remove their shoes. Other colors make more sense for people with children or pets who will be moving through the rooms.

Whether you decide to go with carpet or hardwood floors, be sure to do your research. Flooring makes an impact on visitors as soon as they enter your home. You want to make sure that what you are showing to them says that you took time to consider how your home looks!

CLA and Weight Loss

CLA, otherwise known as conjugated linoleic acid may be a supplement you want to consider for help in your weight loss efforts. CLA has become popular because of its reported benefits of fat loss, cancer fighting, improving cholesterol, immune system improvement, and possible prevention of atherosclerosis.

Researching CLA may leave you wanting to take it whether or not fat loss is your goal.

CLA is a fatty acid that is found in small amounts in meat and dairy products. However don’t plan on getting the benefits of CLA from eating these foods. There is just not enough CLA present. Supplement companies have found a way to convert the linoleic acid from safflower oil into conjugated linoleic acid. This allows you an affordable way to get the benefits of CLA.

Studies that have shown promise were done using dosages of 3 to 4 grams of CLA per day. Most supplement companies sell CLA in dosages from 500 milligrams to 1 gram per pill – This means you may have to take several pills per day to get the optimal results. CLA is different from many weight loss supplements as it does not contain stimulants and you probably will not “feel” any immediate effect from taking CLA. You will want to stay on CLA from 4-6 weeks before expecting to see any results.

If you decide to do further research on CLA you will undoubtedly find it listed on many bodybuilding sites. The reason for this is that CLA has also shown promise in helping to maintain lean muscle tissue. Do not let this deter you from trying it because this will help you improve your fat to muscle ratio. In other words – you will look better

The opinion of many health and fitness professionals is that CLA may be something you want to consider adding to your daily health regimen. I recommend purchasing your CLA online in order to save money. Tonalin is a brand name that you will see on many different companies form of CLA. Tonalin is the most researched, highest quality CLA that you will find. Purchase from a reputable company and give CLA time to show some effects.

The Truth About the Full Tilt Rigged Debate

Much debate has centered around the Full Tilt rigged argument, with one side claiming that poker sites are not rigging the game, while others claim constant bad beats in online poker are more than just an anomaly. The truth about the full tilt rigged debate is simply found in the software that poker sites use to execute the game.

In an attempt to curtail the problems of cheating, collusion and other subversive techniques to compromise the integrity of online poker, sites such as Pokerstars and Full Tilt have implemented subroutines and algorithms that prevent this activity. However, the very software programs that use to prevent cheating and collusion in reality has made it possible for a knowledgeable player to win more often.

Online poker sites have to abide by certain security measures to prevent cheating, especially in the recent wake of scandals that rocked several poker sites. Although no poker site wants to be bought under scrutiny for permitting cheating, the full tilt rigged debate rages on because they are using tools (that in the form of algorithms and subroutines) that clearly make cheating possible.

In a sense it may sound contradictory to use programs and subroutines that clearly changes the statistics of the game, in order to prevent cheating. Yet the anti-cheating and anti-collusion algorithms intended to prevent a player from dominating a table or tournament will allow a person to win more often if the person knows those algorithms and how they work. This easily explains why people will claim full tilt rigged the game.

Skeptics will claim that online poker is fair and there is no truth to the full tilt rigged argument, yet those same skeptics are unable to explain the overwhelming evidence of constant bad beats. In addition, the fact that online poker statistics do not concur with real live play brings into question the truth about the whole full tilt rigged debate.

In a recent study conducted by an independent research partnership, it was revealed that a straight, a flush and a full house occurred more frequently (about 20% more often) than it should statistically in live play. When compared against the Monte Carlo method, and true statistics, it was shown that certain middle hands easily dominated in online poker, when they should not. The conclusion was that this is a direct result of the online poker rooms not using the true statistics in their software.

This evidence has led many to believe the full tilt rigged debate has some truth to it, and that the software used by poker sites to prevent cheating is actually inferior inferior hands and less skilled players a huge advantage. According to one source, the solution to the problem of constant bad beats is to learn what it is the software is doing and the inner mechanics of that software.

Simply put, if you understand how the full tilt rigged software works, you can easily beat the software and stop being a victim to the full tilt rigged algorithms and constant bad beats. Since the online poker rooms are not going to change their practice of the way they execute deals and consequences of hands, it is prudent for any online poker player to learn the software and use it to win.

3. Might seem kind of old fashion but using a block heater in winter weather to pre-warm your vehicles engine is still a good idea.

4. I have done this a few times, makes for some really rough and slow driving.:) Make sure to release your parking brake before you start driving.

5. This step not only saves you gas but improves your health at the same time. Avoid drive-through lines at restaurants like the plague. Find a great parking place, and go inside. Come to think of it I have also saved time this way to. In our fast food society we waste more gas sitting in lines than doing anything else. A side note here, this applies to any place you might have to wait in line, banks, etc.

6. This was a fault of mine which I have finally got rid of. To put it nicely, brakes are meant for stopping not riding on.:) Constantly riding your breaks is never a good idea and puts extra wear on your break pads as well.

7. Always drive and accelerate smoothly and avoid “jack rabbit” starts or “flooring it” when the light turns green.

8. Depending on the year and make of your car make sure to check weekly the level of transmission fluid in your car. This makes sure your gears are shifted with the least amount of effort.

9. If you have a rough running engine, noises your not sure about or smoke coming from you tailpipe have your mechanic check it as soon as possible.

11. Unless you are practicing for the Indianapolis 500 resist the temptation to rev your engine. Much like flooring it at lights this serves no purpose and just wastes gas.

12. Don’t you just love the internet? Finding a place to buy cheap gas is as easy as clicking your mouse. Try this site: gasbuddy.com These prices are updated by people like you everyday.

13. And like this last tip, getting gas credit cards from major oil companies can still save you anywhere from 1% to 5% when buying from their stations.

So there you have it, some simple, easy and none boring ways to improve gas millage.

Now if I could only figure out how to turn tap water into gas we wouldn’t need these tips! 🙂

Proper Skateboard Assembly

How can you learn proper skateboard assembly? If you are a skater, at some point or another you will need to know how to assemble your skateboard either because you want to customize your skateboard or because you want to set your own specs for better skateboarding.

Before you can begin the assembly of a skateboard you need to have the proper tools.

These will include:

o Screwdriver or allen wrench

o Safety knife with new blade

o Metal file

o 3/8 ", 9/16" nut drivers

o Square aircraft lock nut

o Griptape

o Work area

Optional tools:

o Power drill

o Vise

You start proper skateboard assembly by placing the griptape onto the deck. You can buy griptape in full-length sheets with different designs and colors. The gritty top of the paper helps your shoes grip the board and advances slipping. This step is very easy because all you have to do is peel off the backing to reveal the sticky underside and stick it to the top of the board you are assembling. Make sure the griptape is stuck well and that it covers all the edges.

Now you are ready for the second step which is to cut off the excess griptape. You will use the safety knife to do this which is why you need to make sure you have a sharp blade. After trimming the paper to the size of the board, take the metal file and smooth out all the edges.

The truck mounting will be the next step. To begin this step you need to poke holes through the griptape where the truck holes are located. This is where a vise could come in very handy. You need to hold the board so you can push the mounting bolts through the truck holes. There are four bolts per truck, but you need to push one bolt through at a time. Then slide the optional riser pads up and onto the bolt ends. Do the same with the trucks. It is essential that when performing this step you have the truck bushings and the kingpins facing each other towards the middle of the skateboard. Otherwise, when mounted they will turn in the opposite direction from what they should be turning. Use the screwdriver or the allen wrench to secure and tighten down the locknuts.

After finishing all four trucks it is time to mount the wheels. You have to be careful not to damage the shields on the bearings when putting them in the wheels. You may need to purchase a tool to help you in this area especially if you have the hard wheels. You do this process by dropping a bearing onto the truck axle then a spacer and press into the wheel making sure they go all the way. To reduce friction, mount the thin washer located on the axel onto the outside of the bearing. Next add the square aircraft lock nut and tighten. You need this to be snug while still allowing the wheel to roll. It can have a little play but should not be wobbly.

Now you are ready to skate. It is always a good idea to carry tools with you because as you ride things will begin to losses up. With a new board it will be necessary for you to make minor adjustments as everything begin to settle in.
