Forgotten Dreams 8

EARTH CHAINED

Wings of the western minds fly them to outposts
Wings of soft whispering, sure and stretched afar
Alighting for moments of sweet encradling
A planet's bright life or the birth of a star.

But crunch and the granite of gravel and greed
Harshly grind the dark thoughts of man grey and cruel
The mind of the Earth man is heavy like lead
Chaining the free minds who'd fly light free in space

Wings of the eastern minds inwardly seeking
Seeking illumination, hurt by the dark
Suffocating, those who once knew life's splendour
Now dying in traps by the evil powers laid.

Light spirits with wings, fly free to your homeland
Warm hearts will open to welcome you again
Minds tuned to Light and to brightness and laughter
You must fly away from the Earth and its men

Pity the grey granite heavy human life
Sorrowful eyes have never kindled to joy
Onward, to burn with the inner life impulse
You must pity souls of men caught in dark clay

Fly away friend, thou human fleet-foot of race
Escape the darkening limits of mind flight
Skim through the seaweed encircling earth pole cap
Wing your return to home in realms high above

Foreign you are in this world of the Earth man
Unwanted your talents of hand and of mind
Many hearts harden, few eyes glance up above
Poor hearts are laden, without magic of Love.

………………………….

EARTHLY FULFILMENT

The longing for spaces
And freedom from cramp
The cities sad limits
So grey made by man
The yearning for nature
Green paddocks and hills
Flowing streams and blue skies
Bush shelter for roof

We've now moved from the town
With its smokestack dark
Where Nature's strict rationed
In sports field and park
From all that we now feel
Has oppressed our lives
And returned to the hills
With renewed life spark

This is ours now, the land
Sweet clod of new green
Ours now is the great joy
See mists subtly rise
Our wealth's in the diamonds
Of dewdrops – sun born
The flowers splash their colour
Birds chirping at dawn

We toil hard, dawn to dark
We rest when we choose
Full delights we enjoy
All pleasures not lose
We live in a rhythm
Cyclic work and rest
Feeling keen and alive
Each day as the rest

We enjoy well earned sleep
We leap to greet day
Loving sunset and rise
In tune come what may
And our life lived before
Seems wasted life time
Was strife, stressing, straining
Man's ladder to climb

There're no cares we have here
But care for what's there
Transitory owners
Of the farm we hold dear
Until others come
To nurture our dear land
Our flowers and our trees Extending love to all these.

…………………………………….

ENEMIES AS BEFORE

We met – our eyes did meet and clash
With soundless thunder and unseen flash
Not struck from love's most gentle glance
But great dark challenge of souls in wrath

We met – our hearts did stir to hate
With unwelcome dark return of fate
Not brought from love's true gentle bind
But deep disturbance of heart and mind

We met – our minds stood lone, apart
Strange, unfamiliar impulse to part
From each – sphere of non-attraction
Sad, unblending spirits in friction

We met – as enemies again
From a dim recall of souls' life strain
Unresolved, hate's bond between us
Undiminished, darkness engulfs us

(Repeatedly I know we'll meet again
As oft in many lives we've lived before
And will again meet to clash, clang and fight
Until new attitudes put hate to flight)

Mistrust of ages, soul's alert
May these diminish, to quell the hurt
May light of will and new hope dawn
Enemies of old not yield to scorn

Perhaps there's reason for mistrust
Our old hatred due to death and lust
But wasted life to squander more
Friendship dawns, though enemies before.

……………….

ENERGY

Fiercely, it shatters through its cloud renting lightning blaze
Plunging to anchor force from its origin in space

Blazing in sunshine radiating earth at the dawn
Giving warmth to all life from its powerful sun star

Mysteriously mirrored in lake, ocean and pool
As moonlight responds to the watery element, cool

Softly caressing with each gentle breeze and air flow
In delicate traces all forms to embrace and know

Fluttering through movements of the green fronds and dry grass
And the wings of the wild birds which disturb as they pass

Twittering with quick, minute orchestration of sounds
Of the rustling green leaves and the bird life all around

Flowing with great surging patterns and tides in the sea
Waves undulating, crashing, restless ever they be

Cascading through rivulet, waterfall, flowing stream
Laughing, tumbling, all joyous with sunlit's brightest gleam

Sleeping, snoring in earth caves which the huge rocks encase
Awaiting quickening before new life of a race

Thundering with every violent earth shudder and quake
Avalanche, nature's explosion or that which men make

Shining in myriads of lights subtle or sun born
In twinkling of stars, glistening tears or on dewy morn

Uprising to heaven in smoke, vapours, clouds, mist, steam
Calling men's thoughts to devotion, to prayer and to dream

Drawing up the sap and the life bringing blood of man
Inspires new growth in its Great Architectural Plan

Creating in billion ways that are secret, some known
All life is evolving with purpose few men are shown

Regulating heart beat in kingdoms of man and beast
Rhythms all attuned to some divine Source till life ceased

Shatters, destroys in atom or galactic event
Both small and great, in explosions energy is spent

Energy explodes in atoms or great, great Light Stars
Nature's law ever changes forms, transforms, never mars.

Whispering, discreet, its secrets in each human breast
Conveys silent instruction for spirits peace and rest

Only when known where energy is born and it dies
Will we recognise this as life's grand Quest and its prize.

A collection of poems that I would wish offers some general interest. They are captured thoughts that gathered and passed again in response to nature and to life experiences common to us all at times when our soul is moved to perceive the beauty and the wonder of existence or when struggling with the complexities of human existence.

Arc Welding Machine Power Source

For striking a welding arc it is essential to have the desired current in the welding circuit. Depending upon the type of current required (ac or dc) it may be obtained from the following sources.

  1. A welding machine or frequency changer (for ac welding machine).
  2. A dc generator of a welding rectifier (for dc welding).
  3. The no load or open circuit voltage (OCV) should be high enough to strike an arc, but not so high as to endanger the welding operator, for example, for a 2000A transformer the OCV should not be over 90 volts through for lower currents of say upto 600A OCV may be upto 100 volts.
  4. With direct current, the OCV must be at least 30 to 35 volts while with alternating current it should not be lower than 50 to 55 volts. An open welding arc can be sustained at 18 to 40 volts.
  5. The minimum voltage for arc ignition is 25 volts which must be attained within 0.05 second for the maintenance of a stable arc.
  6. The power of the welding source should be sufficient to provide the required welding current.
  7. It should be possible to tap the desired current within the available limits either in infinite steps 9stepless regulation) or in a large number of discreet steps (stepped regulation).
  8. The voltage of the power source should adjust itself rapidly with the change in arc length.
  9. The short-circuit current must be within limits of safety for power source windings.
  10. It should have output characteristics which match the arc characteristics.
  11. It should incorporate a low voltage supply for the operation of auxiliary units.
  12. It should have a desired duty cycle and provide the required volt-ampere characteristics.
  13. It should be light in weight, small in size, low in cost, convenient in service and easy to maintain.

Volt-Ampere Characteristics of a Welding Power Source

All welding power sources have two kinds of operating characteristics viz., static characteristic and dynamic characteristic. The static output characteristic can be easily established by measuring the steady-state output voltage and current by conventional method of loading by variable resistors. Thus, a curve showing the output current versus output voltage for a given power source constitutes its static characteristic.

The dynamic characteristic of an arc welding power source is determined by recording the transient variations occurring over a short intervals in the welding current and the arc voltage. Thus, it describes instantaneous variations occurring over a short interval of time say a millisecond. Arc stability is determined by the combined interaction of the static and dynamic colt ampere (V-I) characteristics of the welding machine power source.

The intrinsic transient nature of a welding arc is the main reason for great importance of the dynamic characteristics of an arc welding power source. Most welding arcs have continuously changing conditions which are mainly associated with striking of the arc, metal transfer from the electrode to the weld pool, and arc extinction and reignition during each half cycle of ac welding.

The transient nature of the welding arc is also due to variation in arc length, arc temperature and electron emission characteristic of the cathode.

The rate of change of voltage and current in arc welding machine is so fast that the static volt-ampere characteristic of a power source can hardly be of any significance in predicting the dynamic characteristic of a welding arc. However, it is only the static volt-ampere characteristics of a welding power source which are supplied by the manufacturer. Through they cannot give the nature of behaviour of the power source regarding its dynamic response but they are of considerable importance in determining the general overall response in controlling the process parameters.

An Overview of Compound Bows

Protection, hunting tool, and a weapon of war are the most popular uses of a hunting bow in the early days. As the world has evolved and technology has become available; bows are no longer seen as a weapon for destruction, but as a tool for a sport or leisure. Archery has become a sport and an art for people to engage in; the world has gone beyond the idea of archery to be a method for defense or offense.

The International Archery Federation has become the governing body of archery. The compound bow is used in many events, sports and competitions the FITA organizes. The compound bow is allowed in a variety of categories in the Paralympics for it to exhibit its ability in the field of archery.

Hunting is another sport, which the compound bow is often used. It hunts for live game the same way the traditional hunting experience does but without the need to use guns. This, according to expert archer societies allows a more humane kill of the prey. It is legal to hunt for small and large game and is popular sport around the European and American regions.

A number of tactical approaches to bow hunting are available to the archers to choose from. There is a method, which requires stealth, good tactics, and strategy plus great accuracy; this is known as the close approach or stalking. This is where one stalks their prey until they have an open shot at the game. Another method requires stealth, strategy and a steady aim with good accuracy; this is called steady waiting or still hunting as one will remain in a strategic post and wait for their prey to come to them just like a Venus fly trap. As soon as the game comes as close as 30 yards, one good powerful shot should do the trick.

Another method for of hunting with bows is the bow fishing. This requires one to hunt fish using the bow just as its name suggests. Modern archery sports for the compound bow include target archery, which is among the most popular competitions in the globe. This is also a popular sport in the United States and in Europe. The setting is in a vast field usually marked wooden targets, which are set at different distances.

In some other category of the field archery, they use 3D targets, which will help prepare and simulate bow hunting. A number of 3D animal dummies are set at various distances and is marked with target rings the archers need to hit. This particular category enables a novice bow hunter to simulate the real hunt by means of practicing in this recreation of the sport while improving their accuracy, aim and strategic tactics. The compound bow has also become the favored choice in field archery; it has the trait of having the immunity against temperature and humidity changes which pose very little to no effect to its aim and accuracy.

How to Get Rid of Sinus Drainage – Nurse's Guide

If you're suffering now from a sinus problem and you're wondering how to get rid of sinus drainage there are a few things you may want to know. Sinus drainage first of all, is natural. Your sinuses drain every day although you may not be aware of it. The drainage usually trickles down the back of your throat and is carried away by body fluids. This is a very natural event and you do not want to stop it. A quart of mucous has to move through your sinuses every day.

If you get an excess amount of drainage or if you notice congestion in your nose and it's a concern, you may think you have too much drainage or want to know how to stop it or get rid of it. This nasal congestion is natural also. However, this symptom may also indicate you have a sinus inflammation or a sinus infection going on, and you'll want to get rid of it.

As I mentioned a certain amount of this drainage or mucus that comes out of your nose is totally natural and the body's way of handling pollutants, pollen, dust mites, chemicals, perfume molecules, fragrance molecules, smoke or organisms including fungus, bacteria and viruses .

In addition, many types of particles that can only be seen with a microscope can get up into your nose. In fact, when you smell anything, you're actually breathing small particles of something that's in your nasal cavities and they can make their way up into your sinus cavities. These particles cause sinus problems. You can get a sinus infection from these foreign particles.

Now you really do not want to get rid of this sinus drainage or stop it. But there are certain things you can do to get rid of sinus infections or other sinus problems if the amount is excessive or you do have an infection. Use natural treatments and home remedies.

Over-the-counter drugs, medicines and medications generally will not help you get relief and can make your problem worse. Allergy medication can actually make the drainage crusty and harden and not be able to move through your swollen sinus cavities.

If you are too blocked up, you'll get a sinus infection because the fluid can not move through and get rid of bacteria, fungus, virus or any other particle that should not be there. You may feel pain or pressure in your face, cheek, behind your left or right eye, forehead or head.

If you have acute or chronic sinusitis or are even thinking about sinus surgery, try alternative natural methods first. Sinus surgery often does not solve the problem and may cause more problems. Make sure to try natural means at home to get rid of sinus drainage excess. Be glad your sinuses are draining and not totally blocked.

Choosing the Excellent Plumbing and Drain Service

If you notice wet areas on your property, foul sewage odors, gurgling noises on the drain, overflow on plumbing fixtures or slow fixture drains, then you may be encountering plumbing and drainage issues that signal trouble to any home or commercial establishment. In most cases, the property’s waste disposal system is to blame when these trouble signals appear. However, you will never determine the actual problem without further inspection. It is necessary to check the root of the problem and contact a reputable plumbing and drain service that can help in repairing or solving these issues.

The following are among the steps you need to take in dealing with a slow or clogged drain. Eventually, you will discover if the issues is due to a faulty septic system or blocked pipe. It makes sense to employ these steps before you start digging and excavating your home’s septic system.

1. Inspect the plumbing fixtures.

If you notice problems with the drainage system, then you should inspect the plumbing fixtures by checking several areas such as the blocked on-site garbage disposal system or building drain, normal functioning of the upper floors or lower floors fixtures, or any signs of overflow back towards the building plumbing.

2. Determine the history or cause of the inefficient drain.

Plumbing issues such as poor venting, error in drain installation, and problem with each fixture can cause slow drain concerns. If your drain used to work perfectly but has become quite slow, then it is possible that a vent system, waste or drain blockage has developed. In case the building is attached to a private septic system, then it is possible that the entire system is blocked or failing.

3. Check the drain-vent system in your property.

If you have not detected any blockage even when there are gurgling sounds at the fixtures each time it drains, then it is possible the building vent system is poorly-installed, blocked or incomplete. Certain particles may cause the blockage such as snow, insect nest, or other debris.

4. Contact an experienced plumber to clean each fixture drain.

Considering the intricate process of repairing any blocked or inefficient drain, the best possible approach you should do is to consult a professional that specializes in cleaning drains. Keep in mind that it can be challenging to inspect and repair any issue with your drainage system, so it is a better option to consult a reliable plumbing and drain service to detect the problem with your DWV (drain, waste, vent) system. Nevertheless, you can also try these basic tips in diagnosing any issue with the plumbing or drainage for regular maintenance.

SDS Hammer Drills

Bosh Company first introduced the SDS hammer drills or Special Direct System Drills in the year 1975. These equipments are very much similar to regular hammer drills but in a more improved and developed sense which allows the later to have more power in terms of hammer blows. To function well, a user should need SDS drill bits that makes hammer drills safer in terms of minimizing hammer slips.

As a comparison, the normal hammer equipments have to moved the entire whole drill chuck in order to produce hammer action whereas when using an equipment, user will only have to allow the bits to move inside the chuck, which allows power to direct accurate and efficient work. The SDS hammer drill is far better when it comes to performance drilling of objects like concretes.

There are absolutely a lot of advantages when it comes to hammer drills. One SDS hammer drills is far beyond the normal equipment when talking about hard drilling jobs. The hammer can drill 90% through an object and finishes the job more quickly than any normal drills. As compared to a normal drill, you will be able to finish ahead when using an equipment.

In addition, SDS drills are controlled through different modes. When you want to drill in normal speed without much action, you can opt for a maximum speed of 1500RPM slower. You can also choose hammer only mode or often called "roto stop". When using this, you have to fit a range of SDS chisel bits or even use the equipment in micro drills like a concrete breaker. This mode is best opted for light drilling action, removing tiles or bricks, or even creating socket cut-ins or cable runs.

You will also be surprised at how an hammer equipment can be so much quieter than any normal hammer when drill provides that SDS drills have better and tough performance. There are also safety clutches provided by hammer equipments like the ability to cut the power of the drill once it jams in any object being drilled.

When looking for a better and ideal drill, you have to look for the ideal weight, which is usually 2kg and up to 4kg. There are also low end or budget SDS drills but they are much heavier than the good ones.
Additional features of drills include speed control that can allow you some bit of control when it comes to handling and drilling specific and various objects. There is also the rotation lock control that allows user to lock the chisel so it will not be moved once a user decides to drill into an object thoroughly.

When using an drill the first time, you should be extra careful in drilling walls as it may collapse because of the power drill brought about by drills. It would be best to equipment some holes first to avoid this kind of problem. It is suggested that to give a maximum power, drill a bit in the title with an inch or 1 1/8 inch. However, under power drill will result if there are bigger equipments bit.

Windows & Door Frames – Sleek Or Chunky? A Look at the Characteristics of Metal, Timber and PVC

The style of your home and your own personal taste are significant factors in your choice of windows and doors. There are three main types of frame available – timber (‘hard’ or ‘soft’ woods), poly vinyl chloride (a chemical compound of chlorine, carbon and hydrogen) and metal (usually aluminium).

Aluminium is an abundant natural resource, non-brittle, non-corrosive, and an excellent conductor of heat and cold. Its malleability and corrosion-resistant properties, together with its stress-strain ratio, make aluminium an ideal medium for long-term use in buildings. Because it is a conductive metal, the construction of window and door frames needs to include a thermal break – a gap between the inside and outside sections of frame – just like the gap between two panes of glass in double glazing.

The strongest of the three basic types of frame materials is aluminium, which means that less frame is required (compared with wood or PVC) for a quality system, fit for purpose. This is particularly important for fully glazed folding or sliding patio doors where larger doors need strong and comparatively lightweight frames for easier maneuverability.

Typically, aluminium frames are thermally powder-coated with a tough, damage-resistant polymer than can be applied in a range of colours, a far stronger finish than can be achieved with paint or varnish.

Aluminium frames provide a sleek, contemporary look to a building. To create a light, practical, non-fussy feel to your home, aluminium frames are an excellent choice in natural white or graphite grey. To make a statement, frames can be ordered to complement a sunny blue sky, a verdant lawn, an azure sea, a golden sunset or high-tech metallic, to list but a few.

From the sleek, slim frames of aluminium to the bolder, chunkier frames of man-made PVC. Apart from budget considerations, PVC may be chosen for a modern look. It can be particularly effective on a pseudo-colonial or Disney-esque style of property, perhaps with PVC weather-boarding, popularly available in white or pale blue.

Cheap d-i-y PVC patio doors are a nightmare to live with in Britain’s fluctuating seasonal temperatures, sticking and twisting as brute force is necessarily applied during opening and closing in hot weather when you are most likely to want to open the patio doors. When considering the installation of PVC doors, particularly bifolds, it is essential to choose wisely.

For both “chunkiness” and versatility for the decorating enthusiast, timber frames offer an inexpensive medium for home-owners who enjoy property maintenance, varnishing or painting.

There’s no better medium than a wooden frame if you like to change your entire colour scheme every two or three years. To keep wood looking fresh, particularly with south-facing elevations, it needs nourishing and preserving regularly. This is a great opportunity for a make-over from white frames to green or black on painted wood.

However, to enhance the beauty of natural wood, particularly soft woods such as pine, annual maintenance is recommended so that damp doesn’t lead to black patches of mildew. All woods swell in the rain and shrink in the heat, some more than others, so French doors and bi-folding doors with wooden frames need to be researched carefully before installation. For example, budget d-i-y timber-framed doors can be difficult to open or close when swollen and may shrink to leave draughty gaps that you’ll live to regret every winter.

All three types of frame can offer full glass doors and windows for maximum light and vision. All can be found with Georgian, leaded light or bar style options. Both aluminium and PVC are easy to wipe clean.

Armed with this background information, the best way to make a decision is to find doors of each medium and use them but take care not to test the high quality models and expect the same results from budget models.

So… sleek aluminium or chunky PVC or wood, the choice is yours.

How to Pick Great Picnic Table Plans

Have you just finished doing your search for picnic table plans, and now you're sitting there scratching your head? You've just found thousands of different plans. How can you decide which ones to use?

First thing to check in the picnic table plans is the materials list. What kind of wood are they recommending? If it just reads to go buy some 2 "x 4" lumber and to start following the plans, throw that plan away and move on to the next one. Your materials need to be treated for standing up to the outdoors. Lumber you would buy for your interior walls is not what you want for your picnic table which must stand up to the rain, snow, and sun. Your best choice will be a pressure treated wood. The treatment will have been forced deeply into the wood to help it be resistant to the weather.

Continuing down your list, does it talk about nails? Discard that plan and move on. You might want to use a nail to temporarily hold a board in place, but nails come loose very easily. You want to be using wood screws to tighten down your picnic table, and for improved holding power. Make sure those screws are also treated to resist the weather. You do not want rust stains showing up all over your new table.

The second thing to watch for is the tools list. Any picnic table plans claiming you are going to build your table with just hand tools is stretching the limits. Sure, you could build it with hand tools, but it will be much more difficult. You will need a good electric saw to make precise cuts. Your saw needs to be capable of setting up to cut the angles needed for the legs, and potentially for the table top if you are building an octagonal table.

Are you going to drive those screws in by hand? If you want to try, go ahead. You are going to be wishing you'd never started. A good set of plans is going to make it very clear you need an electric drill for driving those screws in properly, and tightly. Your hands and wrists are going to appreciate your use of power tools.

These things may seem like common sense, but so commonly free plans give you exactly what you should expect, minimal information, and improper instructions. To reduce your frustrations, you may want to purchase picnic table plans which are complete, and give you the exact materials list you'll need. You can then take your plans to the local lumber yard, and pick up the exact items you need, in exactly the right quantities. Your project will go together quickly and easily. Or, you could stick with those plans you have, but you will just have to build another table next year. A properly constructed picnic table will give you many years of outdoor enjoyment.

Great picnic table plans take the project from frustrating to simple. Good instructions make every project easier, faster, and in the end, less expensive.

Removing Your Stretched Painting From Gator Board

These simple instructions will allow you to remove your stretched painting from Gator Board and leave your board without any damage:

Ensure your painting is bone dry first.

Take a look around your tape to see if you can find an area where there may be a slight lift/air space in the area where the tape meets the watercolor paper? I use a kitchen knife that has a strong but thin blade. Holding a knife at an angle to ensure you don’t pierce the board too – simply pierce a small hole so you can gently slide the knife underneath the watercolor paper. Ensure your knife is held as flat to the board as possible so you don’t disturb the surface of the board – of course.

Once you have the point of the knife underneath the w/c paper – you simply slide the knife around the edges of the watercolor paper (I like to hold the knife reasonably low and flat to the board. It is just like opening an envelope with an envelope knife.

Voila! Now your painting is separate from the board!

Do I remove the tape on the edge of the painting?

You have some choices:

You have taken your painting from your board and this will leave part of the stretching tape still adhered to the white margin of your painting. (I always ensure I have an inch or more white margin around my painting).

You can cut the tape off if you don’t like it. Or leave it on the edge of your painting for stability. The decision whether to leave your tape on your paper is a choice for you.

One thing to consider

Is the tape you use archival? This will influence your decision.

If you use Lukas Wet Adhesive Tape

The Lukas tape I use is archival so it should not be a problem to leave it on the edge of the painting.

If you use Brown Gummed Tape

I know the brown gummed tape I used to use is also archival. (But unfortunately the tape does not have a brand name or identifiable markings so I am not able to recommend a brown gummed tape).

Because I can’t speak for the numerous brown gummed tapes available – I would recommend you cut the tape off the edge of your white margin around your painting.

How to remove the tape from your Gator Board

The remainder tape is of course still on your Gator Board. I throw my Gator Board in the bath with the taped side of the board facing downward. I leave it 10 minutes or so and then simply pull the last of the tape off. Sometimes I may need to use a blunt knife to get the stubborn pieces off – but generally it comes off without much effort at all.

Remember to wipe around the area where the tape had been to ensure you have wiped off any remaining gum. We don’t want your next painting to stick to the board.

This sounds involved but in fact it is very straight forward and easy to do. I have explained it in fine detail to help you understand every scenario. Once you have tried these suggestions you will find it all very logical and easy to do.

Now your board is fresh and clean and ready for your next painting. If you look after your Gator Board it will give you years of service. It is a fabulous product.

Happy painting!

Susan

Curb Appeal Strategies for a Quick Sale

When selling your home do not overlook Curb appeal as a major contributing factor in the sale of a home.

Quite simply, curb appeal is the way the house looks from the street. Often a prospective buyer will drive by a house of interest several times before they decide if they want to further investigate the property. This is the first impression the buyer will have about the home so let's make it a positive, lasting impression.

If you can not get the buyer to the front door, then you can not possibly sell them the house. To create optimum curb appeal make sure the grounds are well manicured.
Hedges need to be trimmed and flower beds should be free of weeds. A fresh layer of mulch or rock goes a long way in sprucing up the flower beds. Make sure there is direct pathway to the front door and the pathway is free of obstacles such as toys, garden equipment, newspapers, milk boxes, etc. Driveways should be stain free, and house numbers should be visible from the street. Yard art should be minimized, or for best results completely removed. House paint and trim should be in good repair. This is particularly true of the front door, since the buyer will be spending several minutes there while the agent unlocks the door. A neutral welcome mat is a nice touch – stay away from themes as they influence a potential buyer's perception of the home.

Potted flowers or plants flanking the doorway give a warm and inviting appeal. Stay away from artificial flowers as they create an unfavorable image. Many people live in areas where fall brings cooler weather or possibly snow. This limits the outdoor growing potential. For these people it is essential to freshen up beds and borders with mulch or rock. Evergreen shrubs and small potted evergreen trees can be placed by the front door instead of flowers. Any empty pots or hanging baskets should be stored out of site.

Front porches are a perfect place to set the stage for a quick sale. Many porches are large enough to set up a small "vignette" – a simple place to ponder the possibilities. This vignette could be a front porch rocker with a small table next to it. The table could have a pitcher and a glass, giving the potential owner a glimpse into life at this home; a relaxing afternoon sipping tea in your favorite rocker. An outdoor pillow can be placed on the chair to add color and texture. Maybe try a bistro set with a small vase of flowers as a focal point. Use your imagination to set the stage for your front porch.

Solar lighting is a great investment. Many potential buyers will drive the neighborhood after dark to see what the house will look like at night. Using solar lighting can help you maximize your curb appeal by lighting up the homes best features.
These may include a beautiful tree, a water feature or flower beds. Do not forget to light up house numbers. Illuminating the driveway or walkway is always a great idea as this creates a feeling of safety. Make sure the porch lights are always on to create a welcoming atmosphere.

With a little imagination and a few simple efforts, you can put your best foot forward and get your home off to a great start with Curb Appeal.

Roofing Contractors – Understanding What a Roofing Contractor Does and Tips on Selecting One

What is a roofing contractor? Well a roofing contractor is somebody who agrees to complete a undertaking such as a residential or commercial flat roof. In exchange for completing the undertaking, the contractor would receive compensation. This is where the term contractor was coined, somebody completing a contract in substitute for money.

At times if the roofing contractor cannot finish the assignment, he can hire subcontractors to help with completing the assignment. This is more common with sizable sites such as churches, shopping centres, warehouses and other really big buildings. Subcontractors may likewise be used when work is completed on residential homes. Examples would include chimney mending, debris disposal and all-metal flashing.

The ideal roofing contractor is someone who exercises hardly a couple subcontractors. By utilising less subcontractors, it is more promising that the roofing company is much more knowledgeable and may complete an array of roofing related repairs and installation. Some other great bonus of utilizing less subcontractors is that the undertaking would presumably cost less. These savings are normally passed along on to the client.

Roofing is a really specialised skill.  Few general contractors get engaged with roofing because it necessitates a squad of roofers who are comfy working on a roof and are able to function in the all-powerful sun. This is why roofs are normally completed autonomous from the remainder of the house.

A roof is an integral part of whatever building structure, be it a theater, bungalow, warehouse or office tower. This makes it more crucial for a property owner or property managing director to obtain the copesetic contractor. Keeping up and mending roofs are important to keeping up a sound roof structure.

The roof is unclothed to the elements all the time, rich summertime sunshine on one extreme and frozen winter snow on the other extreme. This variability in temperature and atmospheric condition can wreak mayhem on a roof and is thence paramount to make sure the roof is adequately upheld. If a modest blemish or worn down condition is perceived by a property owner, then a roofing contractor should be called out to make sure that the roof can be renovated so that the whole roof does not have to be replaced in the near future.

When choosing a roofing contractor, one has to be very deliberate in arriving at the selection.

The greatest way to acquire a roofing contractor is to employ one for a insignificant repair or for roof maintenance. By engaging a contractor for a small job you can see how good that contractor really is.  If you like the work the contractor did, then by all means higher that contractor in the future when you have a massive repair or a complete re-roofing of your roof.

Another frequent option is to get an estimation from a contractor. Estimates are ordinarily free or cost a small fee. After obtaining an estimate you can then get an idea on how practised, professional and experienced a particular roofing contractor is.

Obviously, you can ask friends or neighbours who have recently had work finished on the roof and find out if they would recommend that roofing company. At times these recommendations are not always the advisable direction to select a roofing contractor because your friend or neighbor may not really realize how well or inadequate of a condition their original roof was in. They may have not asked the fitting questions and hence could have had what they comprehended to be a upright job but cost them a little more.

Another great place to check for roofing contractor’s qualifications is the National Roofing Contractors Association.  Did you know that roofs today also come with Energy Star Information.

One fundamental factor that I must stress is to find out if a likely contractor utilizes subcontractors. Again by employing subcontractors, this make  the undertaking much more expensive than it really requires it to be.

I trust that this informative essay has aided you in readying an informed conclusion when taking a roofing contractor.

Balance Sheet Explained

A balance sheet may be defined as “a statement prepared with a view to measure the exact financial position of a business on a certain date.

“It is prepared from the trial balance after all the balances of nominal accounts are transferred to trading and profit and loss account and corresponding accounts in the ledger are closed. The balances now left in the trial balance are either personal or real accounts. In other words, they either represent assets or liabilities existing on the date of closing of accounts.

All these assets and liabilities are displayed in the balance sheet according to certain principles such as :

(a) All real and personal account having debit balances should be shown on the assets side of balance sheet which is on the right-hand side.

(b) All the real and personal account having credit balances should be shown on the liabilities side of balance sheet, which is on the left-hand side. The excess of assets over liabilities represents the capital of the owner. This figure of capital must tally with the closing balance of capital account in the ledger after the net profit or loss has been transferred therein.

It shows that when real and personal accounts are placed on the opposite sides of balance sheet according to the nature of balances, the assets side should be equal to liabilities side.

As stated earlier and personal accounts having debit balances are called assets; actually at trader’s property and possessions as also the debts owing to him (sundry debtors and bills receivable) are assets.

The real and personal accounts having credit balances along with owner’s capital are shown as liabilities. So liabilities are the debts owing by a business to third parties and the owner of the business.

Classification of Assets

Assets have been classified as follows:

(a) Fixed Assets. The assets of a durable nature which are used in business and are acquired and intended to be retained permanently for the purpose of carrying on the business, such as land, building, machinery and furniture etc. They are also sometimes called as capital assets or fixed capital expenditures or long lived assets. Fixed assets are collectively known as ‘Block’.

(b) Floating or Circulation Asset. Those temporarily held assets which are meant for resale or which frequently undergo change e.g. cash, stock, stores, debtors and bills receivable. Floating assets are again sub-divided into two parts, liquid assets and non-liquid assets. Liquid assets are those which can be readily converted into cash without appreciable loss. Cash in hand and cash at bank are the example of such assets. Other assets which cannot be readily converted into cash, or not without appreciable loss, are called non-liquid assets e.g., stock, stores.

(c) Fictitious Assets. Those assets which are not represented by anything concrete or tangible. Preliminary expenses, debit balance of profit and loss account are the examples of such assets. These are also called as ‘nominal’ or ‘imaginary’ assets.

Classification of Liabilities

The liabilities of a concern can be classified as given below:

(a) Fixed Liabilities. Those liabilities which are to be redeemed after a long period of time. This includes long term loans.

(b) Current Liabilities. Those liabilities which are to be redeemed in near future usually within a year. Trade creditors, bank loan, bills payable etc., are examples of current liabilities.

(c) Contingent Liabilities. These are not actual liabilities but their becoming actual liability is contingent on the happening of a certain event. In other words, they would become liabilities in the future provided the contemplated event occurs. If it does not occur, no liability is incurred. Since such a liability is not an actual liability, it is not shown in the balance sheet. Usually, it is mentioned in the form of a footnote.

Form of Balance Sheet

A balance sheet has two sides-the left-hand side and the right-hand side. These two sides, however, are not comparable with the debit side and credit side of a ledger account because balance sheet is not an account. Words ‘To’ or ‘By’ are not used in the balance sheet The left-hand side is liabilities side and contains credit balances of all real and personal accounts and on the right-hand side which is “assets” side, are listed the debit balances of real and personal accounts.

Arrangement of Assets and Liabilities in Balance sheet 0

The assets and liabilities should be arranged in balance sheet in some specific order. Arrangement of assets and liabilities in the balance sheet is called ‘Marshalling of assets and liabilities’. There are two systems of arrangement of assets and liabilities in the balance sheet:

(a) Order of Liquidity.

(b) Order of Permanence.

In liquidity order most easily realizable assets are shown first and are followed by assets which are less easily resalable. So, the assets most difficult of realization will be shown last. In case of liabilities, these will be shown in the order in which they are payable the most pressing liability being placed first.

Distinction between Trial Balance and Balance Sheet

1. Trial balance is the ‘means’ of accounting process of which the balance sheet is the ‘end’ because a balance sheet is always prepared from the figures taken out of trial balance.

2. The purpose of preparing a trial balance is to check the arithmetical accuracy of account books; but balance sheet is drafted to reveal the financial position of the business.

3. The two sides of balance sheet are called ‘liabilities’ and ‘assets’ sides respectively but incase of -trial balance the columns are ‘debit’ and ‘credit’ columns.

4. For completing the accounting cycle, the preparation of balance sheet is. necessary; but the preparation of trial balance is not always necessary. –

5. The period after which a balance sheet is prepared, is normally one year but trial balance is prepared very often and it may be monthly, quarterly or half-yearly.

6. Trial balance contains in it all the three types of accounts viz. personal real and nominal, but balance sheet contains only personal and real accounts.~

7. Generally, trial balance does not contain closing stock but balance sheet does.

8. It is not possible to know the accrued, advance, outstanding and prepaid receipts and expenses from trial balance, but balance sheet discloses such items.

Manufacturing Account

Some concerns like to ascertain the cost of goods manufactured by them during the year distinctly before they prepare the trading account and ascertain the gross profit. This account is called the manufacturing account and is prepared in addition to the trading account. It has the under mentioned characteristics:

(i) Since the purpose of preparation of this account is to ascertain the cost of goods produced during the year, the opening and closing stocks of finished goods are not entered in it ; they will figure in trading account.

(ii) In respect of materials it is the figure of materials consumed which is debited to the account. This figure is obtained by adjusting the purchase of materials for the opening and closing stocks of materials e.g., Opening stock of raw materials Add: purchases of raw materials during the year Less: closing stock of raw materials Cost of materials consumed

(iii) In the manufacturing concern there will always be some unfinished goods or work-in-progress. The cost of work-in-progress at the end of the year is credited to this account, shown in the balance sheet and debited to the manufacturing account of next year as on opening balance.

(iv) All expenses in factory- wages, power and fuel, repairs and maintenance, factory salaries factory rent and rates are debited to this account. Depreciation on machinery is also .debited to this account and not to the profit and loss account as is usually done.

(v) Amounts raised by sale of waste or scrap materials are deducted from raw material purchases.

(vi) Now the difference is two sides of this account will be the cost of goods manufactured during the year. This cost will be credited to manufacturing account and debited to trading account.

The trading account will now comprise only the opening and closing stock of finished goods, the cost of goods manufactured as transferred from manufacturing account and sales of finished goods. The gross profit will be transferred to profit & loss account. The profit and loss account and the balance sheet will be prepared as already explained.

Your Business on Facebook – Any Disadvantages?

You may be considering making either a fan page or a group for your business on Facebook. You may have heard of other businesses having success with a Facebook page and you want to experience this same success. There are many benefits to having your business on Facebook. Here are some things you'll want to avoid so you do not experience any disadvantages from being on Facebook:

If you do not do it right, it could hurt your image. A poor Facebook page for your business is worse than not having one at all. So if you are thinking of making a Facebook page, make sure you do it right. Do not just spend a few minutes on it by creating it, and then leaving it alone. You need to tend to it for at least a few days, and make sure that it provides a good experience to the user. If you business has a blog, you'll want to set it up so that your blog posts go right to your Facebook page's wall so that there will always be some new information for people to read. Update as much information as you can, including your business hours so that people know you're a real entity and not some scammer with a Facebook page.

Consider your demographic. If you cater mostly to baby boomers they are not going to care too much that your business has its own Facebook page. It's not going to make them want to do business with you any more or any less than they already do. They'll likely find your site through other means than through Facebook. If you cater to pre-teens, teens, and twenty and thirty somethings you definitely need to have some presence on Facebook. If you do not, you run the risk of looking out of touch with your core market.

It can be cannibalistic. If you have a main website that you want be to use, you may find that they never make it there because they're getting all of the information they need from your Facebook page. If you spent a lot of time and money to make your website, and you want people to use it and appreciate it, then you might want to limit how much you put on your Facebook page and just use it as a teaser to get people to click through to your website. Either way, it's still one extra step they have to take to get to your website, and many people might not bother to click through.

There's not too many disadvantages to having a Facebook page, as long as you follow the advice in this article and do it the right way. The only thing it can do is potentially give you more visitors, and it provides another avenue for people to get to know more about you and your business.

Floor Care Cleaning Tips

The floor is the part of the house that takes the worst beating – everyone in the family walks, runs, jumps, dances, and plays on it. With all that traffic, it’s bound to get dirty, whether you have vinyl tiles, wood floors, ceramic flooring, linoleum, or carpet. Here are some tips to keep your floors in sparkling condition.

1. Vinyl Floors

It goes without saying that vinyl is one of the more popular types of flooring nowadays. More households are switching over to it for two reasons: longevity and ease of maintenance. Vinyl is easy to maintain and if cared for well enough, it lasts a long time. To care for it, you need to scrub the floor and apply polish on it as often as you can.

Like we said, there is little to no difficulty in the job. First, dust the floor with a broom, making sure that even areas under the furniture have been swept. Next, sweep the floor using a damp mop. This step removes persistent dirt particles the broom might have missed. Wait a couple of minutes for the floor to dry, then apply the vinyl polish. Spread it evenly using a dry cloth. Your formerly mud-stained floor is now as good as new.

2. Wood Floors

Wood floorings are some of the finest on the market. There are many types of wood flooring available, and each requires its own unique cleaning method. The type of cleaning solution used to treat hardwood, for example, shouldn’t be used on mahogany flooring-it has its own type of polish. Never use vinyl or tile surface care products on wood floors. Acrylic wax causes wood floorings to dull quickly and become slippery.

The rule of thumb, when it comes to wood floors, is to use a mild alkaline solution. Alkaline works great on almost any type of wood surface. You don’t have to worry anymore about ruining the floor surface. Lastly, avoid using cleats, loafers and high heels on wood floors. Your floor will last longer if you keep it clean and free of marks and dents.

3. Ceramic Floors

Ceramic flooring is expensive but it sure it does an excellent job of making a small house look more spacious and grander than it is. Ceramic flooring is as smooth as vinyl flooring and as tough and resilient as wood flooring, but don’t make the mistake of thinking ceramic tile is indestructible. In fact, sometimes a tiny crack is all it takes for the tile to split in half. Ceramic tiles are volatile. Period.

Cleaning ceramic flooring is easy. It doesn’t take a genius to know that dust doesn’t get along well with the ceramic surface. Start by sweeping the floor or running the vacuum to eliminate most of the dust that has settled on the surface. Next, scrub the floor using a soft sponge that’s been soaked in cleaning solution-that’s water and liquid detergent. Always use liquid detergent to avoid scratching. Rinse thoroughly and leave to dry.

4. Linoleum Floors

Linoleum flooring has its perks. The material is prone to damage, but it is cheap and easy to install. Maintenance is a cinch too. You might want to think twice before opting for a more expensive type of flooring.

First, remove dirt particles and debris by sweeping the floor. You can also use a vacuum cleaner if you have one. Run the vacuum cleaner. Next, mix ¼ cup of cleaning solution to every one gallon of cool water. Hot water or even warm water makes linoleum go wild, so avoid it. Then, proceed to sweep the linoleum using the cleaning solution and a mop.

5. The Perfect Solution: Vacuums

Before vacuums were invented, the basic method of cleaning floors was by sweeping. Some ancient inventor created the broom and the vacuum was still far from realization, so people cleaned the floor of their houses with the broom to sweep away dirt and grime.

Today, the vacuum is all you need to keep the house neat and tidy. It’s recommended for use when the floor is carpeted or when the housekeeper has to deal with a back problem-scoliosis, for example. Remember, to sweep is human, to vacuum is divine.

Take advantage of these tips and before you know it, your floors will all look like new!
