Bridge of Faith

It's not strange to hear people acknowledge that they sometimes doubt and wonder whether God really exists. Kant (the philosopher) could be right when he says that all people strive for the perfect being. Therefore, humans form the perfect image and call it God. These are only human images and words and nothing more. But when we come to a standstill and look around us, we realize once again that there must be a God. There must be a greater hand behind this awesome creation. It is simply too well planned.

The world outside does not understand the things of God. People close their eyes to Him and turn away from what He does. The world makes its own plans and God never forms part of those plans. And as we walk through life, we start wondering whether they could be right and we could be wrong. Just remember that they can not see God because of the choices they made at the crossroads! Therefore, God is not part of their lives at all and it sounds quite stupid to them.

I had a chat with a professor in the gym. In the mist of our discussion his words hit me like a bucket of ice-cold water. He said: "I do not believe in God. I am not a Christian." We argue a lot, but I can see that it's not helping much. And then I realise: He needs something to help him bridge the divide between human thought and belief in God. And that is faith. Somewhere our thought and reason stops and you need faith to build a bridge to reach God. 20So where can you find someone truly wise, truly educated, truly intelligent in this day and age? Has not God exposed it all as pretentious nonsense? 21Since the world in all its fancy wisdom never had a clue when it came to knowing God, God in his wisdom took delight in using what the world considered dumb-preaching, of all things! -to Bring those who trust him into the way of salvation.

For the professor the cross sounds like a fairy tale. For him, it does not make sense, and there are many people who follow his way of thinking and "believing". But where his knowledge ends God's wisdom has not even started. And that is why it does not make sense to him. He misses the whole point and why? Because he does not want to use a little faith.

We must protect ourselves against the clever people.

What must you do to keep to the right road and to keep believing? You must have a living relationship with God. We must hear God's voice and listen to it, like the believers who chose against the (stupid) clever ones: 24But to us who are personally called by God himself-both Jews and Greeks-Christ is God's ultimate miracle and wisdom all wrapped up in one. Human wisdom is so tinny, so impotent, next to the seeming absurdity of God.

We have a responsibility of faith in God. We must put energy into our relationship with God. How do you really get to know someone? Spend time with him. Walk the roads that he walks through the world, then you will understand that person's being. Then you will understand God's plans for your life. Then you will in a way experience God's awesome power in your own life. Then you will easily run across the bridge of faith.

Try it. Take your little faith and build yourself a bridge. Spend time with God and see where He takes you. You will be speechless.

Bible reading
1 Corinthians 1: 18-25

Reflection
Do you believe in God?
Do you know God's plan for your life?
Do you experience God's power in your everyday life?
How much time do you spend with God?

Prayer
Father, I want to call out that I believe. I do not want to listen to the clever ones, because I know they are talking stupid things. But I do not always know Your plans and sometimes I do not experience Your power in my life. I know I must spend more time with You. Please help me have a daily appointment with You. Amen
