It is situated just 3 miles west of Dartmouth and the luxurious Dartmouth holiday cottages. This Blue Flag Beach is on a sheltered bay with an all-year round protected clear turquoise blue water. The beach is ideal for swimming with guaranteed clean waters which have been tested by the Environment Agency. A privately owned beach, it is surrounded by evergreens and pines. There is a Mediterranean feel to this beach which is ideal for the whole family to go to as it has something for everyone. There are sand pits starting from May and a bathing raft starting from July. You can also hire kayaks, surfski, boogie boards, wet suit and snorkel.

Blackpool Gardens

This beautiful garden is right at the back of Blackpool Sands kept hidden by a small green door. This garden was originally established in 1896 by Robert Lydston Newman, deputy governor of the Bank of England. Sir Geofrey Newman Bt. Decided on restoring the gardens which was started by his ancestor on a land that the family has owned for over 100 years. You will not find ornamental flowerbeds in this garden. Rather, you will see a plantman's garden which shows different collections of plants including the rare and unique ones from the Southern Hemisphere including varieties of Leptospermums and Callistemons, Olearias and more. Several different plants from all over the world grow well because of the southern coastal location although the place is very well protected from the salty winds by the dens evergreen belt lining the coastal road. You can sit and relax while enjoying the views of the sea. The garden is open from 10 am to 4 pm daily from April until the end of September. Entrance fee is £ 2.50 for adults while children are free.

Venus Beach Café

You can get the best local and organic dishes with the amazing view of Blackpool Sands. The café serves breakfast until dinner. The café uses only Devon and Cornish suppliers for the ingredients of their superb dishes. There is a children's menu that offers healthy food that is almost 100% organic. The salt, sugar and additives are safe or they are not used at all. Get some great food here before returning to your Dartmouth holiday cottages .

The Venus Beach shop is under an old tree very close to the beach. Shop in the comforts of a shop with a friendly ambiance. You can get sun cream, swimmers and a locally produced bottle of wine.
