Fixing the Kitchen Faucets

As a homemaker, our task is not only to use and enjoy our homes but to also learn about properly maintaining them. For our kitchens, there will always come a time when one of our faucets will leak or clog and we should know the basic remedy for this especially when it happened in a time when we can not find an immediate plumber.

For us to know what to do when this happens here are the provided procedures that you can follow:

Step 1

First, we need to turn off the water on the valves. It is usually found under the sink. After that, we keep the faucet turned on. This way, the water can drain freely. We need to make sure that the drains are plugged so that we can avoid small parts from falling into it.

After that, we use the Allen wrench to help us loosen the setscrews on the handle of the faucet and removing the handle after. We need to make sure that we line up the faucet parts with its order in which we are removing. This will help us remember what comes first when we will reinstall them again. Sometimes, they can be difficult to

Step 2

This part will be the removal of the bonnet and assembling the ball and cam. For this, we will use the slip-joint pliers for us to remove the chrome bonnet while wrapping a tape around the teeth of the pliers to avoid the damage of the chrome. Then we can now remove the ball and the cam assembly.

Step 3

Now we remove the springs by fishing it out and packing the pieces with the needle nose pliers. Then we clean out any of the buildup sands or residues inside the faucet to prevent the clogging.

Step 4

This time, we will grab the sprout with both hands and working it back and forth so that it will be loosen. After that, we remove it from the faucet face. We need to exert extra effort for this because it can be a little difficult to remove at first. By using the spanner, we remove the O-rings and use the needle nose pliers when removing the diverter. Any sands or sediments inside will then have to be removed.

Step 5

After all the removal and cleaning procedures, we will now go to the reassembling the components. We press the new diverter into place and then installing the new O-rings. It is important that we apply grease into the O-rings. It will help withstand high temperatures plus making it a lot easier to remove if ever it will be damaged again.

Step 6

We attach the sprout back into its place using both hands firmly on it. We use the spanner and the Allen wrench to guide us while slipping the springs into place.

Step 7

Finally, we will now place the faucet ball into its slot and reinstall the cam and the chrome bonnet and its handle. We then turn on the water and check if there are still leaks.

That is how we maintain and keep our kitchen faucets free from any damages. Now we can fix our own kitchen faucet problems whenever they arrive.
