How to Change a Stud-Type Nose Ring

When you got your nose pierced, you were probably given instructions about how to change the nose ring. But there are different types of rings, and it can be hard to remember all that info. Changing your ring can be painful if you don’t do it the right way, so here are some tips that should help. These tips apply to stud-type rings.

Stud-type nose rings come with a few different types of attachments. The first is a straight pin with a little ball at the end. To insert this type of ring, just place the ring in the hole and press it in. When you put it in, the ball catches to keep the ring from coming out. The reason the ball works is that it’s larger than your piercing hole, so inserting this type of ring can cause a little pain. Also, for some people this type of ring won’t be long enough and can tend to slide out.

Another style for a stud-type nose ring uses a little bendable pin without the ball on the end. To insert this type of ring, bend the pin with a small pair of pliers and make sure it’s long enough to fit through your nose, and then just slide it in. This type is relatively easy, but sometimes the whole pin can be too long and can scratch the inside of your nose.

The third type is a nose screw. It has a straight pin with a little screw at the end. Nose screws can be a little tricky, but once you get the hang of it, you may find you actually prefer them. Before you start, open the area where the pin is hooked with a small pair of pliers. You want to open it just enough to loosen the curve a little bit. Then put your thumb in your nose and press firmly against the area where your piercing is located (use the opposite hand from the side where your nose ring will be inserted). With your thumb on the inside of your nose, find the piercing hole and press the nose ring in until you feel it on the inside with your thumb. At that point, twist the ring so it’s sticking out. Then you can let go and just push it in.

That’s all there is to it. Now you should be able to change your stud-type nose ring without pain.
