How To Make Elegant Lacquered Pears

 Lacquered  pears are an elegant touch to special meals. They are amazingly simple to make. Look for Bosc pears when they are in abundance in your local grocery market. This cookery method actually gives the pears a beautiful, rich  lacquered  appearance. Some guests have been known to say, they almost look too beautiful to eat!

Ingredients you will need:

Bosc pears

Red Burgundy Wine

1 cup sugar

Equipment you will need:

Knife

Baking Dish

Oven

Tool for Basting

Step 1: Preheat oven to 375 degrees

Step 2: Wash pears. Keep stems intact.

Step 3: Slice off the bottom of each pear, so that they will be able to stand straight. Place pears in a shallow baking dish in an upright position.

Step 4: Pour one to two cups of red wine over the pears and sprinkle with about 1/2 cup sugar.

Step 5: Bake pears for about 45 minutes, basting every ten minutes with the burgundy pan juices.

Add additional wine, if necessary.

Step 6: Sprinkle pears with with an additional 1/2 cup of sugar and bake until tender (about twenty minutes.)

Step 7: Remove from oven and cool in baking dish. Do not refrigerate! Prepare several hours prior to your dinner party.

Step 8: Serve whole or sliced in half.

For an elegant display, arrange upright on an antique stemmed platter. They will look quite beautiful on a buffet. The pear theme is a great launching pad for many lovely and innovative design inspirations. Go ahead… let your creative juices flow!
