How to Select Basic Garden Tools For Container Gardening

Thinking of starting a simple garden in containers? For scooping up pebbles, compost and anything else you need to scoop, using the right hand garden tools will allow you to get your garden area ready for planting. It is also a must for digging holes in the dirt when transplanting vegetables or flowering plants. So what do you need for a start?

You do not need to spend a lot to start a garden. However, to begin with, you will need to have a few basic tools. You may need to spend about a $ 50 or even less if you can buy them from your local nurseries which sometimes do run annual sales of their plants & garden tools or even from yard sales or flea markets.

1. Garden Fork or Hand Rake:

One from the economy range will do the job. Good enough to dig & help loosen the soil will do.

2. Potting Trowel:

Suggest getting a stainless steel trowel. It is really expensive even if you go for a stainless steel trowel that comes with a wooden handle. You will need one for potting & transferring purpose.

3. Secateur:

Use this for your general gardening. Many will think that getting a pair of handicraft or sewing scissor is good enough for the job. You will agree with me owning a secateur is different. The blade of a secateur can ensure a clean cut in live wood which is important to protect your plants.

4. Garden Gloves:

Lastly, get yourself a pair of comfortable garden gloves. Get those that offer an extra grip on the palm. Do take note that the size varies for male & female. And you can also choose from the cotton or the leather range. Gardening with a pair of gloves will not only help your hands stay clean but also it will reduce the chances of having your hands get hurt.
