Laying Of Tile Flooring

Establishing working lines : After you have been satisfied that the sub-floor is sound and properly prepared and after you have made other essential preparations in the room, you can now start establishing your working lines- those guides you will need to accurately place your tile.

Working with adhesives : With self-sticky tiles you are ready to place them. On the other hand, you want to check the manufacturer’s instructions on the adhesive container for applying the product over your tile. Usually, using a notched trowel to spread the adhesive is common. Following is based on that method. If you have to use the adhesive with a brush or roller then you have to follow the manufacturer’s recommendations carefully.

You should be sure about the open time of the adhesive – the time taken to lay the tile while the adhesive is still sticky. The area that you are going to cover, regardless of the size, depends on the open time of the adhesive. Start spreading the adhesive by transferring a little amount to the marked spot where you are to lay the first tile, using a putty knife or broad spackle knife. By applying equal amount of pressure use a notched trowel to spread the adhesive. If the working lines are invisible over the adhesive do not cover those lines. Do not spread too much of adhesive on the floor. With the open time of the adhesive in mind be sure of how much area you can cover by working comfortably and laying the tiles.
