Timber Decking Kits – An Introduction

Timber Decking

Decking has witnessed increased interest from the home DIYer of late, due in part to it's reliably low cost and simple instruction. A well designed deck can provide your garden with a thoroughly practical, usable space, which is both easy on the wallet and aesthetically pleasing.

The process for constructing a garden deck is actually quite straightforward. In fact, almost any home DIYer or practically-minded individual should be able to construct a basic patio deck with just a few hand tools and a set of instructions.

The process begins with the preparation of the floor space within the garden where you wish the deck to be constructed. The first job is usually to remove unwanted plant life and weeds, plus and rocks or other obstructive elements found on or near the surface.

The next step in constructing the garden deck us to lie down a weed membrane fabric to help stop plant life growing from underneath the deck once it has been completed. Use steel ground hooks to secure it.

Now we'll look at sourcing the timbers for your deck kit. One must always ensure that ethically sourced timbers are used wherever possible. There are a huge number of ethically-managed forests out there, so check with your supplier before purchasing. Most deck boards are constructed from softwood – Scandinavian Pine in the major of cases – although some are made from Balau Hardwood. Board widths tend to vary a little between suppliers, most are between 9cm and 15cm, with 12cm being the most common. Many are grooved on both sides, giving the DIYer the choice of either 4 or 7 grooves, sometimes more. The grooves are important, as they will provide much-needed grip in wet weather.

Once the timber has been sourced, we may begin the construction process by assembling the joist frame. C16 grade timbers are most common, and are used in conjunction with metal post anchors in a lot of cases. With the subframe timbers in place, fixing them together will create a solid, long lasting base onto which the actual deck boards may be fixed. In many cases it is wise to allow around 0.6cm between each of the boards so that the wood can expand and contract according to the prevailing weather conditions.

If you wish to install a handrail, you'll probably wish to use either metal spikes or a bolt down metal brace to hold the vertical posts (called Newels) in place. The overall cost may increase through the use of a handrail system, but the aesthetic value added is immense – they really do look the part. There are a number of cheap decking supplies in the UK, although not all can cater for this type of deck.

Similarly, you may wish to raise the deck above ground, depending on the ground underneath. For sloping landscapes, a raised timber deck kit will help create a flat, usable and easy-on-the-eye solution to uneven ground. It will also do this at a far lower cost than many alternatives such as block paving.

Finally, with the deck complete, be sure to treat all the deck boards with a high quality stain (Sadolin is a very good product). You will also need to oil the deck on a regular basis, particularly any sawn ends, to prevent rot.

Tips on Using Lumbar Support For Back Pain

Lumbar is that region of the body which is the most critical for the human being in terms of the human beings standing erect as well as their flexibility and rotation.

Lumbar region has five major vertebrae of the spinal region and it these five major vertebrae which take most of the pressure when you sit or bend.

In fact the most important reason that a human being stands erect is because of this lumbar region. They say that lumbar region in the homo sapiens is what distinguishes it form other mammals.

As a person you need to careful about the lumbar region and take good care of the most important region of the body. Injuries happened to the lumbar region while doing repetitive motions using the spine or if you have a sitting job or you have a driving job which is involves a large amount roads on the road.

The sitting means that you can have lower back pains. To prevent these back pain you need to have ergonomically designed chairs for sitting. The backrest of the chair should at 120 degrees to the seat of the chair and also the lumbar support area of the backrest should be 5 centimeters.

This is the most basic of the ergonomic requirements and if you have the back pain then your next best option is to use the car lumbar support or the auto lumbar support if you drive a car or a truck.

Then if you have severe back pains then you can have back supports which are called the lumbar support braces. These braces have the metallic sheet in them or a plastic piece which keeps your back absolutely straight. These braces have the Velcro straps attached to them which you can tie in front of the stomach.

Nowadays there are inflatable lumbar supports which are helpful in case you want to use the lumbar support for office as well as car. You can easily deflate the support and put it in your bag. This is a great advantage as opposed to earlier ones which were not the inflatable types.

Lumbar support is medically proven to be the best treatment for the lower back pain and is used for orthopedic reason as well in a variety of back bone related treatments. So make sure that you have all the correct information about lumbar support to buy one of the correct size and a perfect fit.

Aboard a Yacht!

Is this your first time aboard a yacht?

Would you like to know what to expect!

It's like stepping into an alien environment filled with equipment not encountered on dry land! And when it moves; when there are roads and all sorts of foreign objects trying to trip you up, it's also apparent that it demands reasonable co-regulation and balance not to go slip slipping into something that could cause you damage.

So if you are to enjoy the cruising yacht a few fundamental guidelines should be known and observed. Some yachts do have a pre-sail chat about safety aspects and where to find things, the weather expected and destination.

When boarding a yacht what you should know!

• The skipper is in supreme command, there is no true democracy! OMG sometimes it is put on plaques like 'The Skipper is Always Right' in case you forget!

• Yelling and shouting from the skipper, (I do not like it) but do not get into an argument about it, why? Three very good reasons … one being he could be yelling a command or warning because he has concern for your safety or the safety of the yacht. The second reason is you're going to be spending a lot of time in a bound space together, no excuse. And number three is it is a sailing tradition that the crew buy the skipper drinks once ashore, even if he has been abusive. Still do not like it!

• Watch your footwear. No black soled shoes, high heels, dirty sole all that could mark the deck and make you unpopular. And do not unpack your gear and spread it around, space is something that most yachts do not have a lot of, consider others.

• Always remember this essential rule, 'one hand for the boat, and the other for what you are doing.' Why do you think it's called man overboard? Because a lot of men that go overboard … have their flies undone. And a lot of other injuries come from not adhering to this rule, this includes in the cabin, you will find a lot of 'hand holds' inside and outside a yacht.

• Using the toilet (heads) needs a set of instructions on its own when aboard a yacht. First thing is usually on a plaque saying; "Do not put in the heads anything that has not been through the body."

Marine plumbing is smaller and notoriously forward to fail, ask how to use it before you have your legs crossed and desperate to treat yourself. Most have a pump system that does not like too much toilet paper and needs a certain amount of pumps with the sea cock open. Ask the procedure here.

All a bit to remember when new on a yacht, and they are not all the same, so save embarrassment, ask! Good sailing etiquette will keep everyone happy!

• The boom, the horizontal attachment on the mast, can swing from one side to the other with or without warning, stand up or even sitting in its path and you could get a hefty blow that could send you overboard or cause major damage typically to your head. One of the times you could hear the skipper get very vocal as a warning or instructions that he is changing course.

• Do not sit on any ropes or pieces of gear, as they can move at amazing speeds and cause rope burn, whip out and leave a nasty welt and in the worst scenario take off fingers.

• Sitting in the companion way when aboard a yacht, especially if this is close to the 'main' (sail) traveler, is a hassle to others wanting to get in and out, and a danger to you if the traveler slides from one side to the other, another way to cause self-damage.

Do not let any of this put you off sailing and going aboard a yacht! Remember when you came into this world you had to learn the rules!

So now go out and experience the enjoyment of sailing and being aboard a yacht; it really is a whole heap of fun!

Three Season Porches Have Loads of Benefits

If you are considering adding a three season porch or an enclosed porch for your home, there are many reasons why this can be a good decision. It can be large undertaking, so you should consider carefully what materials you want to use and how you will likely use your three season porch.

A 3 season porch can add value to your home. Instead of doing a costly renovation where walls are torn down or an existing room must be destroyed to make way for a new addition, three season porches can simply be added to to your house. Unlike other renovations it will cause minimal inconvenience during construction.

Before you get started drawing up plans for your three season porch, consider whether or not you will add either heating or cooling. If you intend to cool the area you will either need to tie it into the central air conditioning with ducting or make sure that there is electrical supply to the area for a window air conditioning unit.

If you want to heat the three season porch, you can either tie it into the ducting existing in the house, or take an alternative option like baseboard heating. For a really nice feel and something different, you may choose to add a wood stove. This would also take some careful planning and that is why it is important to make your heating or cooling choices early.

Adding a three season porch to your home can also help with heating and cooling costs. If you live in a place that is cold, you know that heat is lost when the doors open in the wintertime. If instead you enter your home through your three season porch or enclosed porch and close the door behind you, then there will be less cold air entering your home.

When you need some extra living space in your home, three season porches can be one of the easiest ways to accomplish this. Think of it just like another room on your house and take the time to set it up properly. You can find all kinds of 3 season porch decorating ideas online depending on how you wish to use your porch.

Adding a porch onto your house can be a great way to find a peaceful space that is sheltered and yet enjoys an outdoor feel. Choose furniture that not only looks attractive and is comfortable, but is functional, too. For example, if you need additional closet space, then add a dresser or armoire to keep coats, hats or boots. A bench with a flip top seat is also an easy way to gain storage space while giving a finished look to your enclosed porch. The furniture will help your three season porch feel like a part of your home.

Enjoy the many benefits and comforts of having a three season porch.

Gardening Soil

In our endeavor to create a beautiful flower garden, we must first start with the soil. Soil is not just "dirt". It is instead a composition of minerals, water, air, organic material that has decomposed and bacteria. All of these must be in the right proportions to grow the flowers and plants that create our beautiful flower garden.

We all know that our flowers and plants gather their required nutrients for growth through their roots from the soil. This means each of us, as the gardener, must be the steward of our garden soil. Our neglect and abuse can ruin the soil. Indeed, in many parts of the country our farming and ranching soil has been so depleted as to make growing crops require ever increasing amounts of synthetic chemical amendments.

If you should dig into your soil, you will see that it is divided into topsoil and subsoil. The topsoil is where you will find most of the organic material and living organizations. However, plants draw minerals from the subsoil and it is important to our flower garden as well.

Soil differs in different parts of the country based upon the kind of minerals it is derived from and the size of the particles that make up the soil. These can range from gravel to clay. For most flower gardening situations, we are usually concerned with sandy soils to clay soils. This is important to know, as it has to do with the amount of air available within your soil for your plants to access. As well, it concerns how fast water is drained away from your plants.

Perhaps the best thing one can do with any flower garden soil is to add organic material. Some gardeners believe adding sand to any soil but already sandy soil is also of benefit. But organic matter is perhaps the most elegant solution for just about any type of soil problem. Organic matter can:

  • help the soil hold more water
  • help it drain better
  • add important nutrients to the soil
  • give bacteria and other beneficial organizations "food" to work with to the benefit of our flowers and plants
  • changes the structure of our soil over time as we keep adding it.

Installing Wood Stoves

Many people are concerned about the increasing costs of oil and gas, which consequentially increases their monthly heating bills. One way to reduce these costs is by installing a wood stove. These are relatively cheaper and can be operated by using low-cost fuel options such as firewood, pellets and other biodegradable materials.

Although wood stoves are a cheaper option, they need to be used with great care and caution as a small error can prove very costly, personally as well as financially. Here, it is extremely essential to install these wood stoves in a very systematic and safe manner. Several wood stoves come with manuals and booklets on how to install them in the right manner.

The first and the most important step is to decide upon an appropriate location for the wood stove. It should be a place where it can be conveniently accessed and used by the customer. It should be far away from combustible surfaces such as furniture, carpets, wallpapers, and curtains. Some companies conduct independent lab tests for determining proper distance of the wood stove from other articles and recommend it in their manuals.

After determining proper spacing from all combustible items, the stove has to be connected to the chimney pipe, which collects all the smoke that is emitted by the burning of wood and other fuels. Wood stove manufacturers give certain recommendations in their manuals for the installations of chimney pipes. They recommend a twenty-four-gauge pipe for most chimneys. The innermost lining of the chimney has to be of stainless steel in order to withstand the high stove temperatures.

The most convenient and preferential location for the installation of the chimney is the center of the house. The stove serves a dual purpose of cooking the food and using the excess heat energy to heat the house. Customers have the option of installing wood stoves with the help of professional installers or they can do it themselves by referring to the product manual.

Basketball Core Training

Core training is one of the most important factors of a basketball player's body. Do not get me wrong, you need quickness, agility, strength and overall skill in the sport but the core is what gives you that competitive advantage or "umph" into it.

For effective basketball training, you must train the whole core area which consist of the abdominals and lower back. The core is the area that connects your upper body and lower body and this is what brings momentum into any part of your game. When you're in a game, your body does the following actions:

1. Jump to rip down rebounds
2. Elevate to dunk or lay-up
3. Elevate to rebound
4. Push body forward to pass

If you did not notice yet, the most important factor to the intensity of those actions may not be the core but it does have an effect. Here is an example: When you are jumping to get a rebound, most of the time, you do not jump directly up. You bend your legs, pull back your hands and then jump. If your core is weak, there is a good chance that you will not be able to get the highest you can and there may be a kink in your movement. Most of the movements in the game of basketball have a lot of to do with the core being active and this is why you must train it properly and effectively. Once you have a strong core, your body is balanced and it moves in one smooth movement.

Today, I will be giving you two exercises that will strengthen the core and give you more stability in your movements:

1) Plank: This exercise is a very popular core exercises because it absolutely provides hard-hitting results. To do this exercise, in a push-up position and instead of balancing on your hands, balance your body with the forearms also in a line with your body.

a. Stay in this position for as long as you can. Your goal should be 2 minutes at least on each repetition. Rest 60 seconds and redo the plank position again.

b. The point is to keep your body in a straight line through the 2 minutes interval

2) Superman: Lie down on your chest with your hands and legs straightened out. Raise your hands and legs straight up as if you were to put your arms and legs together. Hold up for 10 seconds at each repetition. Rest for 5 seconds and hold the superman position for another 10 seconds.

The Teenage Brain: A Teacher's Guide To Why They Do Stupid Things

The teenage brain- what is up with that? One minute they are demanding to be treated just like adults and the next minute they act like 3-year-olds. For example: I had a senior in my class who walked in one morning absolutely lived with anger at his mother. Her crime: She left for work with his backpack in the back seat of her car. It was her fault that he did not have his homework. I agreed with him and commented, tongue-in-cheek, "Wow! That was really mean of your mom to come into your room, take your backpack, put it in the back seat of her car and drive away." He just gave me a blank stare. This was a 6 'football player with a beard who considered himself an adult but was blaming mommy for his carelessness. To him this seemed perfectly valid. Examples like this are not at all uncommon. The behaviors of teens can fluctuate wildly in a short amount of time.

I think teens are funny, exasperating, cute, erratic, frustrating and baffling. However, it really does help to have some basic understanding of how the teen brain differs from the adult brain in key areas.

When a teenage student has done something incredibly stupid your response is usually to ask, "What were you thinking ? Their response is often "I do not know." While this is not the response you were hoping for, it's important to be aware that this answer is probably a completely honest one. They truly do not know why they do many of the things they do, especially the really stupid actions. The closest response they can come up with is often "It seemed like a good idea at the time" or "It seemed like a fun thing to do." Why do they often exhibit such poor reasoning skills? Underdeveloped frontal lobes are a huge factor.

Underdeveloped frontal lobes: Although they look like grownups, physically the teen brain is far removed from the adult brain. Development of the teenage brain will not be completely finished until they are well into their 20s. The frontal lobes are the center of higher-level thinking skills such as judgment, decision-making and recognizing the connection between potential actions and future consequences. In adults they act to keep us out of trouble. For instance: your boss will not give you the day off to go to your niece's graduation. You are angry but you do not say anything to him. That's because your frontal lobes say, "Hey, I know you're mad at this guy but if you say what might get fired."

The teen brain does not have that strong voice saying "This is why you should not do that." That's why a student who is angry might push you or tell you to "f … off." Later they are sorry but they could not control their behavior at the time. This does not mean that they should get by with this kind of behavior. It does mean that you need to keep in mind that they can be lacking in self-control. Approach your consequences for their behavior with this in mind.

Teenage brain development is a much more important factor in adolescent behavior and decision-making than we have previously acknowledged. This illustrates that parents and teachers both need to continue providing guidance to teens even after they are 6 'tall and look like grownups on the outside.

Building an RC Battery Pack – A Basic How-To

If you love RC, you know the importance of a battery pack. The type of batteries you choose, how well your pack is assembled and how efficiently you charge them are all important aspects to powering your RC vehicle. Sure, you can buy a battery pack pre-assembled, but you can also build your own and get the satisfaction of designing and powering your own vehicle.

The first thing you need to do is when you decide to put together a battery pack is what you are powering and how much juice you need. You also need to think about the following:

1. Look at the chassis of your vehicle. The kind of vehicle does not matter as much as the amount of space in which you have to maneuver. The batteries may need to be oriented in a flat pack, a clustered pack or as both. You should also think about the distribution of weight in your vehicle – whether the battery weight is going to be distributed in a side to side or back to front manner. In some cases your chassis space for a battery pack is not adaptable, so be aware of those constraints before you start.

2. Look at the motor powering your RC vehicle. Depending on the power requirements, you'll be able to determine how many batteries or cells you need. This is also when you can decide the type of batteries you'll use – if you want to keep your NiMH batteries or upgrade to LiPo.

3. Determining your voltage is really a simple matter of addition. A standard cell voltage is 1.2v, so wired in a series – 12 batteries will add up to 14.4v – which would power an 14.4 volt RC electric motor.

Next, you'll need to gather your battery pack supplies – so here's a sample shopping list. Remember, we're assuming we're creating a battery pack with 14.4v, as in the example above:

o 12 Batteries or Battery Cells

o 12 Battery Bars (you can order battery bars in bulk if you plan to build more than one pack and save $)

o Wire: You'll want a higher quality 12 gage with a high strand count. This type of wire, with these characteristics will be more flexible which is ideal as well as being more efficient for power transmission.

o 80-100 Watt Soldering Gun. You'll want a gun because you can be more exact and quicker – this is necessary because of the heat sensitivity of batteries. The faster and more specific you can be, the less likely you'll be to damage the battery.

o 60/40 Solder. This is higher quality – also important for quick and accurate work and avoiding battery damage.

o Flux. This is a chemical cleaning agent that removes oxidation from metal to facilitated soldering. You can use liquid or paste flux when assembling a battery pack.

o Shoo Goo or Goop. This fast drying adhesive will be used to bundle the batteries together.

o Battery Pack Assembly Jig – optional. These assembly devices align the batteries properly and facilitate a tidy battery pack. The batteries end up basically looking like cord wood – tidily bundled.

o Soldering "Helping Hands" – optional. These devices allow you to hold things in place while you solder.

o Another optional timesaver is to get a "Helping Hands" accessory for your soldering station.

o Multi Meter. You need a good multimeter to test voltage and polarity.

o Wire strippers and Wire Cutters. These tools will help you handle, strip and properly cut your 12 gage wire.

o The final component is the shrink wrap which will go around the entire assembly and keep it tidy. You'll also need a heat gun to heat and shrink the wrap.

So, you've identified how to orient your batteries and how many you need – now you get to work on assembly. For this example, we're assembling 12 battery cells – 6 down one side and 6 down the other.

Once you identify where the batteries are going in relation to your chassis and how they are going to be laid out, you can begin. For this example, let's say we're doing 6 down one side and 6 down the other side.

Just to make sure we're on the same page, the ultimate goal here is to be running wire from the positive terminal of your first battery to the positive terminal on the electric RC motor and then running a wire from the negative terminal on the last battery in your pack to the positive terminal of your other battery pack, thereby creating a completed circuit.

This means you need to have sufficient wire to reach from the positive terminal of your first battery to that terminal and likewise from the negative to complete the circuit with your other battery pack so bear that in mind.

Orientation. Align your first cell so that positive is pointing "upwards" and negative is pointing "downwards" and then reverse the next battery so it's opposite on the line. If you purchased the battery assembly jig, this is when you've used it to align your cells and hold them in place.
Adhere. Stick all the batteries together with your fast drying adhesive to they are in order and aligned properly.

Flux. Use your flux now on the connection points.

Connection – Use your battery bars to connect your cells. You'll need to heat up your soldering gun and heat up the battery bar. Using the bar protects the battery and when the flux starts to bubble, you employ your use of solder. The goal is to NOT heat the battery itself. Heating the battery is not only counterproductive, since if you damage the battery it will not work, but also dangerous because the cell might explode if overheated.

You'll want to complete the same steps for the remaining battery connections. You are connecting the negative to the positive over and over again. You'll then be ready to connect wiring to your battery pack.

The wires need to be pre-tinned which means you need to strip off a quarter inch of the protective plastic wiping sheath, use the flux to clean them – apply the flux liberally – heat your solder gun and then heat the wire and flow the solder into the wire until thoroughly seated. You'll also want solder on the batteries so the solder will act as the connector with the battery.

Once the two, six cell battery packs are complete, you'll want to employ the shrink wrap to secure them – and you'll have your complete battery pack! Now you'll be able to power and fly your RC helicopter , plane, boat, car or truck with no problems!

Xenon HID Lights Help to Achieve More Glare For Your Vehicle

Majority of car manufacturers have started to realize the popularity of Xenon HID lights and incorporated them as a standard equipment in their high level cars. You'll also have the option of installing these HID headlights on your mid-range cars. These products are also sold separately by a large number of offline and online stores. Owners of older cars are very curious to know about this lighting option and its vitality as a source of illumination for their cars.

Xenon HID lights provide brighter illumination in comparison to halogen and are more energy and cost-efficient as well. But when it comes to glare, the federal requirements are similar for both. Some people raise the question why Xenon headlights look blue. The reason lies in the distribution of energy generated inside the bulb by a number of noble gases, specifically including xenon, that are under tremendous pressure. The bulb contains a line spectrum in its output emission with some of its tops in the noticeable blue area. Here, all the lights generated by these headlights are not blue, but they still appear to be blue in color.

Some manufactures attempt to replicate a Xenon HID bulb by coating or painting a halogen bulb blue. But, the actual truth is a genuine Xenon HID system is not blue in color. You only Observe a bluish color because of the resultant high voltage arc and the release of the Xenon gas inside the bulb. So, beware of counterfeited Xenon headlights in the market.

When you compare a halogen headlight with a Xenon headlight, you can clearly distinguish a number of factors. Firstly, you'll get a glittering bluish white illumination through a Xenon light, where a halogen bulb emits yellowish light. Secondly, the Xenon system covers a wider area and generates more light than a halogen system. It is also very easy to identify Xenon HID systems as they have D2S, D2R, D1S, or D1R stamped on the external lens of their systems. The absence of any one of these combinations gives you a clear-cut idea that you do not possess a true Xenon HID system.

If you want to verify whether these lights are legally approved or not, you can look for the letters "DOT" pointed on your Xenon HID system. In the USA, you can use only those headlights on public roads which are DOT approved.

PDO RG-22C – Twenty-Two Rifle Fireproof Gun Safes

The interior of the PDO RG-22C Hollon Republic Series fireproof gun safe has interior dimensions of 56″ high x 27.5″ wide x 17 ¼’ deep providing 16.93 cubic feet of interior storage space. Adjustable shelving provides safe storage for 22 rifles inside the safe plus extra storage using the pocket door organizer.

The PDO RG22 gun safes are not only constructed to protect against fire, smoke and water damage but to protect against unlawfully entry by burglars. As with all safes in the Republic Series of fireproof gun safes, the contents are secured against being pried open. The first point of attack by a burglar is most often a pry bar attack on the safes door followed by punch attacks. The five-inch thick door has 3 gauge solid steel plate added to the entire door, drill/ballistic armored hard plate to protect the lock and an active spring-loaded re-locker to prevent punch attacks. Construction of the safe’s body is of nine-gauge seamless steel.

To allow a full 180-degree door opening the RG22 gun safe is constructed with external hinges. Additionally, external hinges allow for the easy removal of the safe’s door should it require repairs. It is much easier and more cost effective to ship a door than the complete safe. It is easier for a burglar to cut off external hinges and as is the case with poorly designed gun safes lift off the door. Having locking bolts on all four sides overcomes this problem.

All the Hollon Republic series gun safe cabinets are Torch Resistant Fire Rated fireproof safes providing for one-hour fire protection at temperatures of 1250 degrees Fahrenheit. Fire protection is provided by layers of fireboard built into the walls and door of the safe. Fireboard one inch thick provides fireproofing of the 1.25-inch thick body while the five-inch door has three layers of fireboard 1.5″ thick. In a fire, damage can be by way of fire damage but more often occurs when the gun safes door allows smoke and water, in the form of steam generated by the gallons of water used to fight the fire, to enter the cabinet. This problem is overcome in the RG-22 gun safe by the installation of a heat activated intumescent door seal.

Unloaded the PDO RG22 fireproof safes weigh 650lbs and are much heavier when fully loaded with weapons and accessories. A determined burglar with a pallet jack would still be able to remove the safe. To overcome removal the PDO RG22 comes with pre-drilled anchor holes to allow the gun safe to be bolted into position.

Which Business Type Are You?

When it comes to running and managing your business, there are two types of business owners:

1. Just in time
2. Just in case

We all have tendencies of both; chances are, however, you swing towards one or the other.

Let's define:

"Just in Time" business owners invest in programs, software and products "just" as they need them, never sooner.

If you're a "Just in Time" business owner, you purchase a product on how to host teleseminars a couple of weeks, maximum, before you need the information.

Hosting an event? You learn everything you can about hosting events as you start to plan yours.

"Just in Case" business owners on the other hand, invest in programs, software and products "just in case" they may need them "someday".

If you're a "Just in Case" business owner, you invest in a product on hosting teleseminars because you're thinking you may host one someday and you've purchased everything so you'll have it when the time comes.

Like with most things, there are pros and cons to both "types".

Just in Time:

Pro: Invest in things as you need them, so you purchase only what you absolutely need and always get the latest info.

Con: May not leave time for you to fully learn / implement before you need – can lead to stress, overwhelm and lower revenues.

Just in Case:

Pro: Usually have what you need so if something pops up, you're ready – you have time to fully learn the program, strategy, technique.

Con: Can lead to stress, overwhelm and lower profits when you invest in multiple things and do not fully implement / maximize them.

Since you do not want to be stressed, overwhelmed and with lower revenues / profits, what are you going to do?

Make It Real: My Request To You

Take a couple of seconds, and maybe a glance at your bookshelf, and ask yourself, "Am I a 'Just in Time' or a 'Just in Case'" business owner (and this ABSOLUTELY translates to our personal lives as well!) ?

We're all a bit of both, but which do you find yourself leaning toward more?

What actions can you take / modify to ensure you're more middle of the road and consciously choosing when to invest rather than acting impulsively?

Questions to ask yourself:

• Just in Time: Take a look at your marketing calendar and allow at least 10 weeks before anything new (for live events, make that 7-9 months).
• Just in Case: Before reaching for your credit card, ask yourself, "WHEN will I take action on this?" and then schedule it in your calendar before the final purchase happens.

And always remember, it's about accepting and embracing who you are naturally and adding systems (aka "questions" in this case) to ensure the results you desire in your business.

Work-At-Home Assembling Crafts Scams

Working at home sounds like a dream come true for those who are adept at working with their hands. Watch out! You could be working to fill the pockets of the scam artists who "hire" you to do the work.

Nothing could be more fun than earning a living by making crafts on your own kitchen table. Some home assembly opportunities promise as much as $ 30 per hour for this kind of work. The work description requires that you make baby clothes, jewelry, plastic signs, toys, Christmas ornaments, or any other item you can think of. Unfortunately, many people jump at this opportunity only to find out that the whole thing is a rip off. Whoever succumbs to these home business opportunities end up forking over a lot of money for the equipment and supplies to make the items for a company that has promised to purchase them. One way these hucksters get you is by insisting that only certain materials and tools be used so that even if you have them in your supply closet, you will need to buy their. They also insist that you use only the materials that they provide to insure the quality and consistency of a product. Once you have paid your money, the materials and instructions you get will be of shoddy quality than anything else you could have bought on your own.

Following the assembly of the product with the materials and tools you bought from your "employer," you will find it next to impossible to get paid for all the hard work you put in. The "company" will tell you that your work does not meet their quality control standards. No matter what you do or say, they will have some excuse for not paying you for your work because it does not measure up to their standards. Even if there is a money back guarantee, you will find it difficult to get your initial investment back. Scammers are very skillful at covering all their assets so that nobody gets their money back. Pretty slick, huh? There are real home assembly jobs out there, but the real ones do not ask you to send them any money for start up. This is the big difference between legitimate home businesses and scams. If they ask that you pay money upfront or buy something first, it is time to turn away and look for something else.

Warning signs of crafts assembly scams

o They promise you a high income. This is perhaps the number one reason why people fall for home business scams. As the old adage goes: "If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is." Do not allow greed cloud your common sense.

o The "employer" uses a post office box. Using a post office box is a classic tell-tale sign of a potential scam. Although not all post office box users are scam artists, these cons depend on them to easily part people with their money. They are easy to get and easy to abandon when it is time for the thief to embark on another new home business scam.

o They require that you purchase a "starter kit." These kits are almost always junk, and the very fact that they called it a "kit" should raise red flags on your part.

o They require you to pay a deposit. Very few legitimate home business opportunities require that you make a deposit. If they ask you to make a deposit, you should be really concerned. These deposits are when the scam artists make their money. Once you send in your "deposit," you have become a victim of a scam, and you will never see your money again.

There are lots of consumer fraud schemes out there. It is up to you, the consumer, to educate yourself to recognize what is and is not legitimate. By doing so, you can minimizeize becoming a victim to the crime of theft by deception.
