Facts and Uses of Copper Sulfate

Copper Sulfate is a significant chemical compound that every Chemistry student must be familiar with. This substance finds its application in diverse fields. You will be taught about the various facts, features and uses of this compound in a Chemistry class. However, if you have questions regarding it but are unable to get your doubts cleared in a classroom setting then consider hiring a private Chemistry tutor. In this article, we will discuss about the various aspects and uses of this chemical compound.

CuSO4 is the chemical formula for copper sulfate. It is formed by the reactions between different copper compounds and sulfuric acid. This chemical is fundamentally a salt. It is interesting to note that the different forms of CuSO4 exist on the base of the degree of hydration. This specific compound is classified and categorized into groups that contain anecdotal degrees of water, and the others with no water. The anhydrous copper sulfate usually exists in the natural form of chalcocyanite, which is a rarely found mineral. The copper sulfate pentahydrate is the most widespread type of this chemical.

There are several ways through which this compound is prepared and electrolysis is one of the most common methods. With the help of copper electrodes, the electrolyzing process of sulfuric acid takes place. Epsom salt electrolysis is yet another process through which this compound is prepared.

Copper sulfate has many uses and it finds place in an assortment of applications. Some of its popular uses are provided below:

It is used in the processes that involve organic synthesis. The anhydrous copper sulfate is utilized as a catalyst, in the transacetylation method of organic synthesis. When the hydrated form of the compound reacts with potassium permanganate, it generates an oxidant, which is used for the conversion of alcohols.

This chemical compound is also used in the field of pyrotechnics. This chemical is used to manufacture blue fireworks. They are also used in the field of agriculture for preparing various compounds that includes fungicides, pesticides, herbicides, and much more. The fungal infection found in grapes is also treated with the help of copper sulfate fungicides.

Copper sulfate is also known to treat water, by removing all kinds of algae and other organisms from it. Due to this feature of the chemical, it is commonly used in the aquariums to purify water and kill the parasites. If you wish to find out more about this chemical compound or learn about its characteristics and uses, then a private Chemistry tutor can help you.

Tooth Desensitization Measures Dentists Apply

Dentine hypersensitivity is a prevalent oral condition that stems from dentin exposure, which dentists around the world treat on a daily basis. According to statistics, about 8 to 30 percent of the adult population, ages 25 to 45, is affected by this ailment. It is characterized by sharp pain or an irritating sensation on the base of the teeth, when exposed to hot, cold, sour or sweet foods. It is usually caused by a number of factors, including tooth decay, over brushing, frequent intake of acidic foods, and prolonged mouthwash use. However, certain underlying illnesses also force it to develop.

Dentin is that part of the teeth that contains microscopic tubes that are directly connected to the nerve branches on the pulp. Once the flow of the fluid within the teeth is disturbed, the tube releases a message to the mechanoreceptors to inflict pain. Tooth desensitization involves a number of treatments to reduce this hypersensitivity and allow you to enjoy whatever fares your heart desires.

The first line of therapy involves the use of desensitizing agents to make the dentin less reactive to stimuli. These can be anything from potassium salts, fluoride, sodium citrate, corticosteroids and calcium hydroxides. Physical agents such as sealants, soft tissue grafts and composite resins can also be used as an alternative. What they will do is inactivate the nerve or occlude the tubules, so that they do not get excited by food or beverage consumption. Sensodyne is a good example of a chemical desensitizing agent, and it mainly achieves the goal by introducing a concentration of 5% sodium nitrate to the teeth with fluoride, so the sensory nerve endings in the pulp are blocked, and the dental enamel is strengthened. Sealants, on the other hand, cover the exposed dentin, so that shifts in oral temperature do not easily affect it.

Another procedure that is used for tooth desensitization is ionto-phoresis. Also known as Electromotive Drug Administration, this refers to the technique of delivering medicine or a chemical through the skin, using electric charges. For dental hypersensitivity, the medicine involved would be fluoride solutions. Laser therapy is also considered to correct the condition, and with the right irradiation parameters, it has been proven to quickly reduce pain by 91.27% among patients.

Dentists also advice to accompany hypersensitivity treatments with good oral hygiene, so that the dentin’s structure is protected from degradation and tartar build up. They also encourage the use of soft bristled brushes to minimize tooth and gum abrasion. Of course, they also endorse regular dental check-ups, cleaning and fluoride treatments, usually every six months, to monitor your dental condition. If you are in the habit of chewing tobacco, grinding ice and sucking candy, they would also discourage them, because they may precipitate tooth dilapidation, enamel thinning, gum reduction and worse, mouth sores.

If you are lucky enough to still have your teeth in its optimum state, it would do you good to administer preventive measures, like proper diet and oral cleanliness, so you don’t have to suffer from dental hypersensitivity in the future. Brushing three times a day is recommended, as well as cutting back on acidic foods like fruit juices, sodas and wine, as well as those rich in carbohydrates.

How to Clean Out a Sump Pit?

The maintenance and cleaning out of a sump pit is critical for the performance of the sump pump. Once the basement sump is installed then it is up to the installation contractor to clean out the sump pit prior to commissioning the system and signing it off. In both preformed sump chambers and sump pits there is always a big chance that the pit will be full of builders rubble and debris from the site works. The installation company should remove all debris from the pit or chamber and then use a Aqua vac to remove any silt or fines which may be at the bottom of the chamber. It is at this point the operative should test all the fittings and pipe work is correctly glued and or screwed together and make sure that there is no debris in the bottom of the sump pumps which could cause it to jam in the event of the sump pumps being activated.

It is important when cleaning out a sump pit or chamber that you have a standby pump with a flexible hose because if you are in an active water situation and have only one discharge line leading from you sump pit out then you will need the standby pump to remove water whilst you check the primary pump for wear etc. It is also very handy to have a large catchall tray which means you can take out the pumps without making a mess to any fixtures or fittings if you sump pit or chamber is inside. Other very handy tools when you need to clean out a sump pit is a acid for getting rid of lime scale residue which may have built up inside the chamber. Hydrochloric Acid works well but is extremely caustic so make sure you have goggles and the appropriate gloves and other health and safety gear when using this type of material. Another essential when dealing with the clean out of a sump pit or chamber is a hose connected to mains water. This helps to wash out any debris but also to test the pumps quickly once cleaned and ready for action.

When cleaning out a sump pit which is being utilised for not just ground water i.e sewage then you are in a different ball park. The same principles apply to a clean water sump chamber but you will need to take a lot of extra precautions and you will need to have the appropriate immunisations for dealing with foul sump systems.

It may be best to not make this a job you do in house but outsource this to a professional foul sump maintenance company.

Remember it is vital to maintain pumps like your boiler to keep them reliable. The cleaning of the sump pit/chamber is a essential part of this process.

Fingerprints – How Fingerprints Solve Crime

Fingerprints are something most people don’t spend too much time thinking about on a daily basis. In fact, unless someone is trying to remove pesky fingerprints from furniture or mirrors, it’s unlikely an average person thinks about fingerprints at all.

However, for some, fingerprints are a vital part of their work life. Law enforcement officers and forensic specialists spend hours thinking about how fingerprints solve crimes, and trying to find, collect, record and compare these unique identifiers that can connect a specific person to a specific crime. These individuals understand that a basic human feature that most people take for granted, can be one of the most effective tools in crime solving.

Every person is born with their own unique set of fingerprints. No two fingerprints have ever been found to be exactly alike; not on identical twins (although these are extremely similar), not even on a person’s own hand. The unique whorls and lines that make up an individual’s fingerprints are formed in the foetal stage and remain the same throughout the entire life span. This makes for a unique mark that can positively identify one individual against another, particularly useful when a person of interest already has a recorded set of fingerprints on file with police, military or other government institutions.

Fingerprints are made up of a collection of swirling lines. The way these lines form and pattern themselves is what makes each fingerprint unique. Despite the incredible number of different fingerprints, there are only seven different types of lines that make up fingerprints. These lines may start, stop or split at any place within the print. The formations, angles, lengths, heights and widths make billions and billions of different prints.

With their unique qualities, it becomes easy to see how fingerprints can help solve crimes. Leaving a fingerprint is like leaving a calling card at the crime scene. There are a few different ways fingerprints get left behind by careless crooks. The most common way is from fat or oil that is transferred from the finger to an object like a doorframe or table. Amino acids from the finger may also leave a discernable mark. Fingerprints can also be detected as an impression in a soft substance such as putty. Finally, they can be made by a substance on the finger such as blood or paint.

Uncovering fingerprints to help solve a crime can be done in a few ways. Adhering powders to fresh fingerprints will cause the powder to stick to the grease and make the fingerprint visible. Another method is by using a few drops of cyano-acrylate or superglue. When these drops are heated, they vaporized and the smoke attaches to the fingerprint leaving a clear white print. Specialised crime scene laboratory equipment can also find fingerprints, but not all authorities have access to all equipment.

Fingerprints can be saved for further investigation in a number of ways, including:

  • take a photograph of the print
  • store it on a rubber lifter or tape
  • keep the original ground the print is on
  • copy the print using digital technology

Ideally, from a crime-solving perspective, it is hoped the interconnected nature of our society will eventually lead to having all fingerprint databases linked for easy cross-reference. However, there are several issues to be dealt with, such as funding, jurisdictional bickering, security and privacy to consider before such a fingerprint system can exist. Solo Fencing Training – Physical Work

The average fencer does not have ready access to a training facility in which he or she can practice fencing skills with a training partner on a daily basis. However, with a little thought and planning and some simple tools, the same fencer can work key technical elements on a daily basis between the regular lessons or club practice sessions. This solo practice is a key part of a solo training program and can be included in the weekly training microcycle.

There are two major types of physical training that can be done alone and that require only minimal space and simple equipment. The first is bladework. The second is footwork. The key to both is execution that starts slowly with detailed attention to technically correct action. This means that the fencer must have learned in lessons how to execute an action, and have a real understanding of how his or her execution approaches the model performance, and where it may need correction. To make training productive the coach needs to provide clear standards and frequent feedback on technical execution.

Bladework practice requires space for a complete extension, and enough vertical and horizontal space to permit the normal range of offensive and defensive blade movement. Bladework practice can be used to work on issues as varied as a smooth extension, closing the line on parries and guard positions (a mirror is helpful for this), fingerplay, and sequencing of actions to include compound attacks and parries and ripostes and counterripostes. Virtually any blade technique can be practiced against the open air, although some level of visualization may be required.

Bladework can be improved by the use of simple training aids. A suspended ball (available in softball, baseball, and golf ball sizes) is probably the least expensive, and is a recognized tool for developing point control and accuracy. Several vendors sell wall lunging pads. Several of these pads set at different heights allow work against high and low line targets. An enhanced version of the pad is the combination of a pad with a mechanical arm that can be positioned to hold a blade at different heights and angles. A more advanced version is the spadassin, a target dummy equipped with the arm. And sabre fencers for years have worked against a mask attached to the wall as the target for head and cheek cuts. Blade and footwork combined with timing can be worked with Tyschler’s training device, a beeper that provides stimuli for executing a variety of drills.

Unfortunately, footwork requires more space and a solid surface with no neighbors beneath it. The longer the available space, the wider the variety of footwork practice possible. However, even a short hallway allows practice of advance and retreat and training in change of direction and shifting from one type of step to another.

The ideal situation is if the available space allows a combination of footwork, such as multiple advance- lunge, with bladework against a training target. A garage bay or a long hall or a back porch may provide a training area in which fully coordinated training is possible.

It is important to understand that this training activity is not just a second class substitute for really fencing with a real partner or taking a real lesson with a real coach. Solo work allows the fencer to concentrate on the specific technique being worked in the exercise, to move at slow speed to perfect the movement patterns, to build speed, and to build the number of repetitions need (variously estimated as between 10,000 and 100,000) to fully understand the technique and automate execution. This has to be done, and eliminating distraction may actually provide a better training experience.

Seducing Women Using Routines – The Strawberry Fields Test

Routines are great for seducing women. I want to introduce you to my number one favorite routine of all time. It’s Captain Jack’s version of the Strawberry Fields test and it works great at night or during the day, although it’s going to be a bit tougher during the day.

First a warning – don’t use this routine too early on because it can freak girls out. Once you’ve figured out that there’s some attraction, this is a good routine for moving her into isolation.

The Strawberry Fields Test

It goes like this – ‘I’m not really sure about you yet, so I’m going to give you the Strawberry Fields test. Imagine you’re walking down the street and you come to the fence. How high is the fence?’

She answers and it doesn’t matter what she says. Next, you say, ‘So, you climb the fence and now you’re in a strawberry field. How many strawberries do you eat?’

No matter what she says, shake your head like it’s a no-no. Now you say, ‘Alright, what about the farmer?’ It’s important to word it just like this. Don’t ask her if there’s a farmer. Say, ‘What about the farmer?’ Again, it doesn’t matter what she says.

After she answers that question, you use the Strawberry Fields test to analyze her. Tell her, ‘The fence is your goals and aspirations. You set the bar high but not so high you can’t achieve it. That’s a good thing.

‘The strawberries are how much you like to have sex, and you said four. There’s no way I’d take you home to mom. Most people say only one or two. I’m a little scared about what you’d do to me.’

You exaggerate this part and say something like, ‘Some girls say they’d only take a little bite of one strawberry!’ Play around with it a little bit.

Finally, tell her, ‘The farmer is what you think about society’s rules and restrictions on sex and sexual behavior.’ Girls usually answer about that farmer one of two things. They usually either say, ‘I’d pay him for the strawberries,’ or they say, ‘So what?’ Whichever one she says, act like that’s the most perverted, nymphomaniac, sex-crazed thing you’ve ever heard.

The point is that you want her to think that she reaches her goals, she likes sex, and she doesn’t care what anybody thinks about it. This is the magic of the Strawberry Fields test and it works great in seducing women.

What Does Ski-in, Ski-out Mean

When you are booking a vacation rental property in a ski resort there is an indisputable magic to the phrase ‘ski-in, ski-out’. It conjures up images of a loving restored log cabin on the edge of an immaculately groomed piste, of watching fellow skiers carve elegant turns from your living room window, with the occasional spray of snow against the window pane. It suggests stepping out of your front door, clicking on your skis and gliding down the slopes to the lift. You may anticipate avoiding the crush of people waiting for a lukewarm and soggy pizza in the mountain restaurant by using your own chalet as … a mountain restaurant. And, perhaps best of all, you may look forward to skiing back to your own front door at the end of the afternoon and forgetting about trudging along paths and the indignity of crowded shuttle buses.

The reality may be very different. Knowing the power of the term ‘ski-in, ski-out’, vacation rental providers are quick to use it to cover a myriad of different arrangements and a range of proximity to the slopes. Here are a few things to watch out for:

1) The ‘ski-in ski-out’ home that is really ‘hiking distance’ to the slopes. The economics of housing development on mountainsides mean that when an area is developed next to the slopes, only some of it is actually next to the slopes. There is almost certain to be a hinterland of properties that have access to the slopes…via pathways, steps, roadways etc. The pathways may be short, or they may not. Make sure you ask exactly how far a particular property is from the actual ski slope, and what the path is actually like: is it a level walkway or a series of dozens of icy steps?

2) The ski-in, ski-out home that is reached via an ungroomed trail through the woods. When these homes were originally built the developers cut a trail to them so that they could be sold as ‘ski-in, ski-out’. However these trails are very often too narrow for a snow-cat to use; furthermore, they are very likely private property and the lift company which grooms the slopes may have no responsibility for them. Only if the owners of properties served by that trail get together and make private arrangements for grooming will you find the trail in good enough condition for safe usage.

3) The ski-in, ski-out home that offers good ski-in, ski-out access…if you’ve chosen one of the 2 weeks of the year when the snow is down to that level. Many resorts that offer ski accommodation are down in the valley, and global warming has led to a raising of the snow line and a decline in the number of weeks that snow is on the ground at given elevations.

4) Finally, there is the nirvana: a ski-in, ski-out home that is what it says it is: situated right on slopes which are snow-covered throughout the season and groomed by the lift company’s snowcats daily. This is what is often now referred to as ‘true ski-in, ski-out’. However, you may find that because this real estate is so scarce it is also very pricey, or alternatively it is developed with rather high-density and charmless accommodation. The Aspens in Whistler is a good example of this. The situation is perfect, right on the slopes, but the accommodation is mostly fairly spartan.

The lesson here is simple. When you are booking ski-in, ski-out accommodation, make sure that you know exactly what you are getting. If you are booking a resort such as Whistler, where there are many gradations of ski-in, ski-out accommodation, consult one of the local property management companies like Holiday Whistler, and question them very closely on its exact location before you book your Whistler ski accommodation.

Pun In Sanskrit Literature – A New Approach

The book under review titled Pun In Sanskrit Literature – A New Approach is a fantastic book.

All Sanskrit lovers and pun lovers should read this book without fail.

The book was first published by Mysore University, India in 1982. The author Gurupad K Hegde is a great scholar and has written this book after intense study of Sanskrit literature for many years.

The book has nine chapters.

The first chapter deals with the pun as alankara in Sanskrit literature.

The origin of pun starts with the first kavya (adi kavya) of the world written by the world’s first poet, sage Valmiki.

The origin of Ramayana is from a sloka of pun! The verse starts with ‘ma nisada’ is a curse on the hunter that he should never attain salvation for he killed the beautiful krauncha bird which was absorbed in love. And wonderfully, the verse also means that the great Lord Vishnu may attain a position for ever as he killed the demon Ravana and Valin.

The author describes in detail the root cause of the concept of fun, the nature of the words in pun and objects of the pun in the second chapter.

The author gives numerous examples to explain the figurative combinations in the great and beautiful language Sanskrit in chapter three.

Chapter four of the book deals with the role of pun in classical Sanskrit literature. The author indicates Shakespeare’s lines in Othello (III-2) The word ‘lies’ in the conversation of Desdemona and Clown is a witty use of pun to mean ‘lodging’ as well as telling a lie!

The great poets Sri Harsha, Bhavaputi,Asvaghosa,Bharavi,Magha,Dandin have used Slesha or pun in their works.

And it is to be noted that the only language which has kavyas where two or more stories are narrated throughout the full length of a poem is Sanskrit. Thus we have kavyas which describes Ramayana and Mahabharata in the same verse!

Needless to say that the author has dealt the Mahabharata kuta slokas which means the slokas with knots!

While the fifth chapter deals with functional pun and the sixth chapter deals with perceptional pun and the seventh with situational pun! The eighth chapter of the book deals with the impact of pun in iconography.

The author concludes in his concluding chapter that pun is everywhere starting from vedic literature to the modern literature which gives the experiences of day to day business of life.

Over three hundred selected verses are given as examples to understand the pun in Sanskrit literature.

On completing the book we are wonderstruck with the author’s deep reading as well as with the vastness of the wonderful t Sanskrit literature!

Index of subject and index of 300 verses will be useful to the readers.

Finally, we may pray that more such books should come to enlighten us!

How to Get Approved For an Apartment Even With a Criminal Record

One of the most frustrating episodes ones can encounter is a denial of housing. Apartment complexes, which in reality are run by real estate management firms, use a number of factors to determine who should rent and who should not. One of the most common factors that they use is criminal background check. A criminal history can be one of the greatest huddles one can ever come across in the process of renting an apartment.

The reason apartment communities request a criminal background check is first of all for the safety of the overall community. There is a general consensus that people with violent pasts are bound to fall back into their previous destructive habits. The concept of history repeats itself seems to be a prevailing belief in many places when it comes to criminal history and nowhere more so than in apartment leasing offices.

Another reason why apartment leasing offices conduct a criminal background check is so as to create the appearance of safety in the community and in so doing have the justification to charge more for rent. If a neighborhood or apartment housing community has a high level of crime, then tenants will not want to renew their leases and this means that there will be more housing units which are vacant and which the management has to fill (or risk being censored by the owner). The more housing units are vacant in an apartment community the more it hurts the management bottom line because this drives down the rent.

When conducting criminal background checks, apartments normally concentrate on felony convictions. Misdemeanor crimes which are only punishable by fines are generally not a concern. If you have a misdemeanor, you should not be concerned but if it is a felony you may get a denial.

There are two main ways to get an apartment approval if you have a criminal record. The first one is to check the nature of your offense and see whether you received what is called a deferred adjudication. This is a probation granted to first time offenders and is also known as community supervision. If you were convicted of a misdemeanor, and got probation, you can go to the county clerk’s office and request for what is called a court deposition. This is a print-out that shows the offense, the court that heard the case, and the judgment that was rendered and the fact that you have deferred adjudication. The printout also states that you have successfully completed the community service without any other incidences and that you should not be discriminated against when it comes to services. You can take a copy of this document to an apartment manager and in most cases they will approve you.

Another way to get an apartment is to get an expungement. This is the sealing of your criminal records and can be done depending on whether you’re eligible. There is an excellent eBook out in the market regarding how to get an apartment even with an existing criminal record and bad credit and you can get it at [http://www.simplecreditsecrets.net]

Make Halloween Outdoor Decorations: "Ring of Ghosts" and "Flagpole Spooks"

Here’s a favorite tradition of our family in outdoor Halloween decor:

Materials: 3 Twin-sized Sheets 3 Four foot lengths of flexible 1/2 inch PVC Piping, Wooden Stakes or Dowels 3 Small White Plastic Garbage Bags Masking Tape Newspaper String or Twist Ties Black Marker (optional)

Instructions: 1. First, determine a good location for your ghost gathering. Find a wide open area, or you may decide to group them around a tree or light pole.

2. To make the ghosts’ heads, crumple up newspaper and stuff the three small plastic trash bags to the desired size.

3. Stick one of the PVC pipes into one of the bags and wrap the neck with masking tape to secure. Repeat for the other ghosts.

5. Cover each ghost head with a sheet, gathering with string or a twist tie under each head. The head should be in the middle of the sheet, so the outer edges can be attached to the neighboring ghosts.

You can make taller or shorter ghosts, but you must adjust the size of sheet you use to accommodate. Our ghosts will be just under 4 feet tall.

4. Push the PVC piping into the ground in a circular formation about 1-2 feet apart. The sheets should touch the ground and cover up the support. You can also use wooden stakes or dowels, but your ghosts won’t have as much movement as they will with the PVC piping.

6. Finally, knot the ends of the sheets together to give the impression the ghosts are holding hands. Because the PVC is flexible, your ghosts will now bob and sway in the wind!

7. If desired, make Casper-like faces on the sheets with black marker.

We have 3 children, so we always make 3 ghosts, but you can connect as many ghosts as you wish!

They’ll look like they’re playing a spooky game of “ring-around-the-rosy”!

Click here to view our Ring of Ghosts

These spooky decorations are easy if you have an angled flagpole attached to the front of your house.

Scary Flagpole Ghost: Hang a “Scream” style mask off the end of the flagpole. Tie a white sheet or a generous length of white tulle around and behind the mask. This scary creature will appear to be flying as his white garment flutters in the wind.

Flagpole Frankenstein: Hang a Frankenstein mask off the end of the flagpole. Tie a dark colored trash bag tied behind it. Shredding the trash bag around the edges will add to the spooky effect.

Flagpole Witch: Hang a witch mask off the end of the flagpole. Attach a witch hat to the mask, then tie a dark colored trash bag tied behind it. Shred the trash bag to make the witch’s robe flap in the wind.

Pipe Welding Certification Tests – UA Welding Tests

The United Association of Plumbers and Pipefitters (UA) identifies their standard pipe welding tests with the letters UA, a dash, and then a number. Like UA-1, UA-2, etc.

There is a list available that goes all the way to UA-92. That does not mean there are only 92 tests ever given. There are many more possibilities but the Pipe fitters Union (UA) had to go all the way to # 92 to identify the most common pipe tests. However, this does serve as kind of an example to how many possibilities exist for pipe welding certification tests.

With 4 different welding processes used for pipe welding (Gas Metal Arc / GMAW, Flux Core Arc / FCAW, Shielded Metal Arc / SMAW, and Gas Tungsten Arc / GTAW) and several different metal groups being welded (like carbon steel, stainless steel, and even aluminum), its no wonder so many different pipe welding certification tests are required to certify welders for the scope of work being done on a job or job site.

ASME Section IX is a commonly referred to document in pipe welding used to determine welder certification requirements as well as qualification limitations.

Some of the common limitations are thickness, position, and diameter of pipe.

For example a welder passing a tig welding certification test on 2 inch schedule 80 pipe in a 6G position is qualified to weld 1 inch and greater diameter pipe, up to 436″ thick and in all positions.

But a welder passing a test on 6″ schedule 40 in a 6G position is qualified to weld in all positions but only up to.560″ thick and only down to 2.875″ pipe diameter.

If you are reading this and are wonder what rectal database they pulled these numbers from, I am with you on that. Its seems kind of silly that once you have.560″ of filler metal deposited, that you are not qualified to put more.

I am just saying.

Advantages of Archery Research Bows

The bow is the most basic equipment you need to pursue archery. Choosing the best in the market may be hard and sometimes you have to rely on product reviews or expert opinions before you finally decide on a specific brand. Archery Research Bows are known for their modern designs, accuracy and durability. One of their most popular bows is the velocity. It claims to be the most revolutionary bow design in the archery market today. It was engineered for years and the developers really worked hard on every part, yes from top to bottom, to give archers the satisfaction they never had with ordinary bows. The velocity will change the way we think about compound bows. It’s compact but it offers enormous benefits to the archer. Expect blazing arrow speeds and ease of maneuverability. Mass weight is only 3.95 lbs and speed is 320-312 fps.

The AR-31 is also one of the best Archery Research Bows. It was redesigned and it’s back because customers asked for it. It was designed with the treestand hunter in mind, this bow simply proves that you don’t have to let go of performance or shootability using a short axle-to-axle bow. Top 3 Benefits Of Using Washing Machine Lint Snares

Laundry machines have changed engineering design in that last couple of decades and that design change was to remove lint filters from washing machines. This ‘brilliant’ decision by the appliance engineers has left the appliance users with new problems due to the increased amount of lint that comes out during the rinse cycle. If your washing machine empties into a sink, a safe and easy way to deal with these new problems is to use a lint trap filter to the drainage hose of your washing machine.

1. Lint Traps/Snares/Filters Protect The Septic Drainage System

For those houses that have septic systems and have their drain water flowing into the drain field, it is important that it remain clear enough so that water can pass through the drain field and not get blocked. If the laundry rinse water outflow is full of non biodegradable particles, they can eventually build up to the point of where they will begin to create blockages in the drain field. Households that do a lot of laundry create a lot of lint build up which comes out in the spin cycle. The drainage of this non biodegradable lint will eventually build up in the septic drain field and eventually plug up with solids to the point that water can no longer pass through the drain field, thus rendering the septic system useless. This lint that is filtered out of the drainage water will keep your drain field free of this material that doesn’t decompose. Over time, using lint traps will lengthen the life and keep the efficiency of your septic system.

2. Lint Traps/Filters/Snares Protect the Plumbing

Many homeowners have recounted their experiences of having to call the plumber out to fix their plumbing. These homeowners have had a chance to see what clogged their plumbing and have said that they saw a lot of lint along with other gross things stuck in the pipes.

Most of the time, plumbers have suggested that homeowners can prolong the life of their pipes and cut down on the number clogs by adding a lint filter or lint trap to their exit hose of their washing machine.

3. These Devices Keeps the Sinks Cleaner

The water draining from the laundry machine is full of lint due to the fact that washing machines don’t have lint filters in them. As time goes on, the lint begins to build up in the sink. Some sinks build up lint more quickly than other sinks depending upon the type of sink it is. Lint filters reduce the build up of lint on the sinks thus making them easier to clean over time.

The build up of Lint from washing machines can cause many problems for homeowners that can be quite expensive to fix. The good news is that, there are simple solutions that are very inexpensive and can reduce the problems that lint build up creates. Implementing these solutions is very simple by adding a washing machine lint trap which can be easily obtained online at places like Amazon and other online retailer websites.

Mold and Your AC Unit

Mold is organic and is an important part of our our world. It is everywhere we go whether indoors or outdoors. It plays a very important part in our world by breaking down dead organic matter such as wood, paper, grass cuttings, leaves, decayed trees, plant cuttings and other things of nature. It does not belong indoors and should be limited. If given a chance, mold likes the drywall in your home also. You ask why, drywall has paper on both sides and is conducive to grow mold when moisture invades during a water leak or flood. It grows in your A/C Unit because there is a wet environment by the A/C Coils. The A/C Coils are a vital part of your air conditioning system. This is the area which takes water out of the air in your home. If it is not kept clean, your system will not work efficiently.

Poor quality filters can cause your A/C System to fail over time. We have seen this in many homes that were inspected and the homeowner didn’t even know it existed. The extra stress placed on your system by blocked airflow due to dirt can cause your system to fail and grow mold on the coils. This stress on the A/C System can cause your blower motor to burn out and not cool the house efficiently.

As the A/C cools your home, it dehumidifies the air. The dehumidified water then drains off of the A/C Coils into the A/C drain pan and then runs out the A/C Drain line. There is always slime mold in your A/C Drain Pan. This is what causes a water backup in the unit. The mold and algae builds up and then finally stops up the A/C drain line. Some individuals put special antimicrobial tablets in the A/C Drain Pan to help suppress this growth. Special care must be used when using these tablets, some people are allergic to their ingredients and must avoid using them. The drain line should be monitored on a regular basis. Minimum checkup time is every 6 months. Look for the exterior location of the A/C drain line to see if it is draining properly.

Maintenance is important regarding your A/C or you can guarantee there will be a water backup or a leak if you do not. Have you A/C Contractor install an auto cutoff switch before the A/C Unit starts to leak. This is a good precaution to prevent a flood from you A/C Unit. If it starts to back up, call a proficient A/C Contractor that understands the importance of Indoor Air Quality. If you are not handy, consult with your A/C Contractor regarding a Maintenance Contract to take care of your A/C Unit. A/C leaks are the number one reason why mold grows in the A/C Closet. Sometimes we see it go undetected for 6 months and cause substantial damage. One of our clients was forced to move out while half of their 1st Floor drywall was removed and remediated for mold. It is not a good picture. Remember, maintain your A/C Unit and it will cool you for a long time.

Keeping the system clean is the filter’s job. The average filter that comes with the unit is not a good quality filter. It is a typical factory filter. Using poor quality filters can cause results like mold growing on the coils. The cost of having a service call to clean or change the coils in your A/C System would pay for the high quality filters of at least 5 years. Using a fiberglass filter gives you minimal protection for your A/C System. The factory filter also gives you minimal protection from the elements in the air.

Our general rule is: Hold the filter up; if you an see through the filter, it only gives minimal protection from allergens, dirt, dander and mold spores. Our minimum recommended filter is a Merv 7 Pleated Filter. Look at the product label and find the MERV rating. They are available in Home Depot, Lowe’s or your local hardware. As always, check with your A/C Units manufacturer to see if it the filter will void their warranty. This can be caused by using some of the too efficient pleated filters which can cause high arrestance of a Merv Rating. This high arrestance will cause dirt to bypass the filter and clog up the coils. We see this all the time. Remember, the filter company’s only want to sell their filters and make money. I personally use Home Depot’s “NaturalAire” Standard which is rated at Merv 8. II’m happy with the results of this filter. The only difference is, I change the filter once a month and recommend everyone to change your filter once a month to minimize exposure to allergens.

The Merv Rating stands for: Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value. It is a test by the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineers. (ASHRAE) The number is so the consumer can compare filters. The higher the number, the more efficient it is.

Tips on A/C Maintenance

1. Most A/C Systems over 5 years old need to be serviced on an annual basis.

2. Routine maintenance can double the life of your unit and save you money.

3. Health risks can be dramatically reduced by proper system maintenance.

4. Energy costs will be lower by maintaining the A/C Unit.

5. Ducts should be inspected every 3 to 5 years for possible deterioration, contamination and leaks.

Baseball Hitting Drills That Really Work

I’ve been using baseball hitting drills to make myself a better hitter ever since I was a kid. Which is a long time ago. One thing I had that maybe not everyone has, was the benefit of great coaching. From my Dad in little league up through high school and American Legion Baseball and then in the Minor Leagues.

Often times little league coaches are well intentioned parents who have kids on the team. But they might not know what makes a good hitter. You have to know the proper mechanics of a good baseball swing before you can practice them. Otherwise, you will be practicing improper mechanics.

Rocky Balboa vs The Russian

Remember in the movie Rocky 4 when Rocky was training for the fight with the Russian? There was the Russian training on all that high tech equipment and what was Rocky doing? He was out in the snow pulling a sled full of rocks and splitting firewood! The point is that you don’t have to invest a lot of money in all kinds of expensive training aids.

Here are some easy to learn baseball hitting drills that will not only improve your swing, but cost little if any money. And most of them you can do by yourself.

Muscle Memory

I was taught early about muscle memory. One quick example of muscle memory is tying your shoes. Try it right now. See how fast you can tie your shoes. You do it without really thinking about it. That’s because you have done it so many times that your brain and muscles almost do it for you. That’s muscle memory.

I still play baseball in what’s called the Men’s Senior Baseball League. It’s a league for us old guys who still want to play but aren’t up to competing with the young guys anymore.

I’m not bragging when I say that I’m one of the best hitters in the league.

But it’s not because I have more skill or talent than anyone else. It’s because I relentlessly practice the proper mechanics of a good baseball swing.

The goal is to train your body to swing properly without thinking about it so that in a game you only have to concentrate on hitting the baseball. You can’t be thinking about staying balanced, staying back, short stride, etc.

Practice the proper mechanics over and over and Muscle Memory will take care of this for you.

Visualization is becoming a popular training aid. We were doing it 35 years ago. With all of the baseball hitting drills I did, visualization was used all the time. Another word that describes visualization is pretending. See yourself in your mind hitting line drives. Make pretend scenarios and live them through your mind while practicing your baseball hitting drills.

Pretend that you have a 3 and 1 count and the pitcher hangs a curve ball. See yourself, as you swing, driving the ball off the 375 foot sign in right center field. This actually helps with muscle memory and makes these drills more fun.

Staying Back

If I had to teach a young hitter from scratch, and I have, about the proper swing, the first thing we would talk about would be staying back. I have seen so many young hitters lunge at the ball when they swing. It’s like they can’t wait for the ball to get to them so they go forward to hit the ball.

We used to do a simple drill in the minor leagues that helped me to learn to stay back. Our coach would have us set up in our batting stance. He told us to pretend that there was a steel rod that went through the top of our head, down through our body and came out our butt. This steel rod was then anchored into the ground so that we could not move forward.

Then he would have us step and swing. The goal here is to step with the front foot, but not allow your body to move forward. When doing this drill, think of your step as a reach towards the pitcher. Now, for this drill to be effective, you have to practice it many times every day. Especially if you were a lunger before. Don’t go front to hit the ball. Be patient and let the baseball come to you.

You can add to this drill by practicing your head discipline. Your head should go down to the baseball when you swing. Your body will follow your head. So if you are pulling your head out when you swing, your front shoulder will follow and open to quickly which will totally screw up your swing.

Practice your balance with this drill. When you swing, you should be balanced. Don’t swing so hard that you fall around in the batters box.

Practice all of these things with this drill but take them one at a time. Don’t try to work on three things at the same time. Work on staying back for a few swings, then concentrate on balance and so on.

Dominant Eye

We all have a dominant eye even though we don’t realize it. Try this.

Take the index finger and thumb of your left hand and make a V. Do the same thing with the index finger and thumb of your right hand. Now touch your two index fingers and two thumbs together to form a triangle. Pick out an object on the wall and look at it through the triangle. Then, close your right eye. Can you still see the object? If not, close your left eye. Can you see it now? The eye that you can see the object with is your dominant eye. So when you set up in the batter’s box, make darn sure you are seeing the pitcher with your dominant eye.

If you are a right handed hitter and you are right eye dominant, you might have to turn your head a little more to make sure you can see the pitcher with your right eye.

Ball On A String

Here’s another cool drill you can do by yourself. And you can do this drill all day. Take a baseball and an eye hook. An eye hook is small and looks like a screw on the bottom and has a loop on top. Look for them at any hardware store for a few cents.

Push the screw end against the baseball and turn it in as far as you can. If you have to, put a screw driver through the loop to help turn it in.

The take some string and hang the baseball from your garage ceiling.

I hang mine from the railing for my automatic door opener or put a small nail in a rafter in the basement and tie the string to it.

Use enough string so that the ball is about thigh high. Swing the baseball out away from you. When it comes back hit it with your bat. Now, don’t smack the daylights out of it with a full swing. Just tap it with the bat. Make contact. Play pepper with it.

This is a hand-eye-coordination drill. You aren’t all that concerned about mechanics here. At first it will seem hard to even make contact. But the longer you do this drill, the better you’ll get. Concentrate on watching the bat hit the ball. Tap it right back at the imaginary pitcher.

You can add to this drill. I was visiting a local sporting good store and found some small, training baseballs. They look and feel exactly like a regulation sized baseball but are smaller. Using this smaller ball will hone your hand eye coordination even more.

You can also replace your bat with a piece of wooden dowling rod from your local hardware store. Or use an old broom handle. Make sure it’s at least as long as your bat. Saw some off if you have too. Now with a smaller bat and smaller ball you can really work on your hand, eye coordination.

After you get good at this drill, change the height of the baseball. Hang it higher or lower and keep practicing.

Super Pepper

When I was a kid my brother and I played this game constantly. I think you all know what pepper is. One guy with a bat and several fielders. The fielders toss the ball to the batter and he taps the ball back to the fielders. Since it was just my brother and me we did it a little different. Stand about twenty feet apart. The object for the guy pitching is to get the ball in the strike zone. For the batter, the object is to hit a line drive right back to the pitcher. Again, you are not taking a full swing. Just tap the ball back at the pitcher.

The spin we put on this drill was that the batter gets to hit as long as he hits the ball so that the pitcher can catch it on a line. If the batter hits the ball on the ground, over the pitcher’s head or far enough away from him that he can’t catch it, the batter and pitcher switch places.

At first this will be difficult. But you’ll improve. My brother and I did this drill for hours on end and had a blast doing it. It got to the point where we seldom missed.

This drill forces you to watch the ball and concentrate on making square contact. What happened to my swing was that in a game I would hit smoking line drives to center and right center field. It’s a great drill.

Heavy Bat

Back when I played American Legion Baseball we used wooden bats. During a game, I broke my favorite, Roberto Clemente, Louisville Slugger. My Dad taped up the handle. Then he drilled big holes in the barrel and filled them with lead. The lead made the bat pretty heavy. I would stand in front of our basement wall and put a shop light behind me so I could see my shadow on the wall. Then I’d swing that heavy bat over and over again.

You can substitute lead with one of those weighted donuts. Practice your mechanics while swinging this heavy bat. Make sure you are staying back. See the pitcher in your mind and pretend to hit different pitches. Make a game out of it and see yourself driving the ball off the opposite field fence or pulling a curve ball out of the park.

One thing to concentrate on while doing this drill is balance. The heavy bat will tend to pull you off balance. Don’t let it. Swing normal but don’t swing real hard. Make sure you keep good balance right into your follow through. What you’ll find after doing this drill for awhile is that your bat speed will increase dramatically. And that’s what produces power. Swing faster, not harder

Reverse Swing Drill

I read somewhere a long time ago that practicing your swing backwards helps build Muscle Memory. The article I read said that Japanese players do this drill all the time. So, being consumed with the goal of becoming the best hitter that I could be, I practiced my swing in reverse so many times, that here it is almost 35 years later and I can still do it.

A good way to prepare for this drill is to have someone video tape your swing. Then watch your swing forward and backwards, over and over again until it’s in your head so to speak.

If you don’t have someone to video tape you, it’s OK. You can still do this drill. I always did this drill in slow motion. Get into your stance. Slowly go through your swing. At the end of your follow through, just reverse the sequence until you are back in your stance. It’s like pressing the rewind button on your swing.

This is actually a fun drill to do and as I said, it helps build Muscle Memory.

Tennis Racket Drill

Here’s one I’ll bet you can’t do. But once you master it, you’ll most likely be the only player on your team that can do it.

I’m sure you have seen tennis players bouncing the tennis ball up and down off of their racket. Do this with a bat and a baseball. This is a great hand, eye coordination drill. I guarantee you won’t be able to do this at first. This drill will show you just how good, or bad, your hand, eye coordination is.

After doing this for a couple of minutes each day, you be surprised at your progress. Doing this with a tennis racket is easy. Doing it with a round bat and a round ball isn’t.

These are a few of the drills I used to do and still do. When I was a kid and decided that baseball was what I wanted to do for a living, I practiced these drills almost until my arms fell off. These drills worked and worked dramatically. But a lot of time was spent perfecting my swing.

There will be times when you would rather watch TV or play video games. Go ahead, but then don’t expect to be the best hitter around. Your physical talent does have something to do with it. But these drills will make anyone a better hitter.
