Even without the filter, many times they do not even care and keep on coming in.

Predator Calls: There are a number of predator calls that you may choose to use. Electronic calls work the best. Mouth calls such as reed and diaphragm calls work well but make sure you practice before you go out as these calls take time to perfect. Some good examples of varying serves are a low, hard hit serve that will bounce twice before reaching the back wall, a soft serve that hugs the side wall or dies in the corner, and a shot that hits the front wall then the side wall and bounces around unpredictably near the opposite corner.

It's a fact in 18 holes of golf 40% or more of our score is from putting. It only stands to reason that the easiest and the quickest way to lower our scores is to improve our putting by eliminating the three putt greens. This can be done simply by adjusting your set up position.

1. The Grip: To become a good putter you have to start with a good grip. Do not grip your putter the same as you would your other clubs. We're taught to grip these clubs more with our fingers and this grip does not work too well with the putter. The correct way to grip a putter is in the palms of your hands right along your life lines with your fingers wrapped around the putter handle. This will cause your arms from the elbow to be directly in line with the putter shaft. Light grip pressure is also real important. On a scale from 1 to 10 it should be around a 5. I found that oversized putter grips work very well in developing the correct grip and pressure.

2. The Eyes: In the set up position your eyes have to be lined up inside your target line. If you get your eyes too far over the golf ball, this will cause you to make a bad stroke, you may pull the putt or push it but the ball will not go where you intend it to end up.

To check this, take a golf ball, position it under your right eye (if your right handed) drop the ball, the ball should land somewhere behind the hossel of the putter. If it does, this is where you should be every time you put the ball.

3. Putter Shaft Position: The shaft of your putter should lean forward just left of your belly button (if you're right handed). This will cause the ball to roll with over spin, this in turn will enable you to control the distance of your putts with more consistency. When you lean the putter shaft back in your putting stroke this adds loft to your putter, which creates back spin on the ball and it makes it hard to control the distance.

You are now ready to make smooth and accurate putt. Hold the putter in the palms of your hands, make sure your eyes are in position then lean the shaft forward a little and make the putt.

Practice these simple set up tips and you will become a much better putter in no time at all.

To this day International Bankers continue to use the concepts of monetary transactions that were employed by the Templar Knights.

The fact that the Templar Knights for over two hundred years managed to acquire enormous wealth was a credit to their organization and implementation of ingenuity in manners of finance. But, it wasn’t until the Catholic Church under the influence from the King of France began a more sinister betrayal in destroying the very organization that gave the Vatican so much wealth. The fact remains that to this day the Vatican may very well be holding untold treasures and purposely withholding some of history’s most intriguing mysteries concerning the demise of the Knights Templar. History is just now starting to realize that the betrayal of the Catholic Church against the Knights Templar just may as well been the one single event that has triggered many of the current crisis now engulfing the Mid-East.

To trace the history of the Catholic Church is to further understand how the Templar Knights came into existence and the escalation of friction between two of the worlds foremost Religions. In 1071 the Byzantine Emperor requested that the Catholic Church send armed envoys to protect the many Christians pilgrimaging to Jerusalem. This was the main focus of the origin of the Knights Templar. Originally these Templar Knights sole purpose was to protect those Christians when they were traveling back and forth between Jerusalem. With the mounting intolerance by the Muslins who also viewed Jerusalem as their sacred city put many more Christians in danger.

It was in 1079 when the Pope started what is now considered the most barbaric assault against another religion in the name of Christianity. The first of three crusades that lasted for over two hundred years of savage ungodly bloodshed to eradicate the Muslins from the holy land. When the first crusade ended marked the beginning of the Templar Knights. In the years that followed the Templar Knights had grown more influential and prosperous. From those humble beginnings the Knights had become the wealthiest organization of the late Middle Ages. In 1307 AD after two centuries of alliance and allegiance to the Catholic Church a dark betrayal brought on by the greed of King Philip IV and Pope Clement V ordered the leaders of the Templars to stand trial for Heresy. By this time De Vasquez was back in northern Spain summoned to appear before the court of King Phillip. Never did De Vasquez trust the French King eluded the Kings guards and managed to board one of the 18 ships that were poised to set sail on Friday the 13th. That same day as the Grand Master and other leaders of the Templars were being arrested in Paris De Vasquez sailed into history and legend. Most historians agree that this betrayal was the direct result of Philip’s IV greed and his influence on the Pope. After all the King was an actual relative of Pope Clement V. This betrayal was specifically designed in order to grab all the Templars wealth. After some years of intense interrogation and torture many leaders of the knights died in prison. In 1314 the grand master of the Templar Knights died while burned at the state. A most horrific end to one of histories most influential organizations.

As for Fernando De Vasquez the last soldier of the Knights Templar he sailed into history carrying with him a treasure of the ages. Where he and those 18 ships went, to this day remains histories most enduring mysteries yet to be solved. We may never know where the last Templar went and then again maybe mankind was never meant to. Four hundred years later in 1770 Dr Adam Weishaupt, and Mayer Rothschild used the Freemason society to incorporate the evolution of the Illuminati. Mayer was a direct descendent to Moses Rothschild who was born in 1550. It is the Rothschild’s family tree that can be traced all the way back to the Templar Knights. Could it be that Fernando De Vasquez started the blood line of the Rothschild’s? Today’s Illuminati many historians now believe are a direct result of the blood line passed from generation to generation through the ages back to the last Templar Knights. Like the original sin the betrayal by the Catholic Church back in 1307 is now forever linked to one of histories most enduring mysteries, the disappearance of the Last Templar.

Imagine this:

• You need to sell your house but you can’t because you have let it run down over the years and it needs lots of Tender Loving Care.

• You are behind on the Mortgage Payments.

If this sounds like the house you have right now then read on. The solution to selling these difficult houses is surprisingly simple, and incredibly effective. The easiest way to explain a House Selling Strategy (or a House Buying Strategy for that matter) is through an example.

• The Situation – You are a seller with a house in a bad state of repair. It is currently worth $200 000. All the other houses in your area are worth $300 000.

• You have had professional tradespeople in to give you quotes on the repairs. You cannot afford to pay the $30 000 for the repairs and you couldn’t possibly find the time to DIY. You’re too busy working to try and pay the mortgage payments for that!

Here is what you do – “Make Your House Easy to Buy, so it Will Be Easy To Sell”. With the Handyman Special strategy here are the steps to follow:

1. Let’s assume that if your house was in good condition it would be worth $300 000.

2. Also let’s assume (conservatively) that the bank would be happy to lend on an 80% Loan to Value ratio. This means they will lend a buyer $240 000 to buy a $300 000 home.

3. Next thing to do is put your home up for sale at say $270 000. In your marketing, ask for people who are Good With Their Hands. Yes you will get a lot of interest because it is well below the area value of $300 000. However when a buyer comes to inspect you should expect them (if they have eyes in their head) to baulk at the price when they see the poor condition of your house.

4. Now explain to the buyer that you were going to fix it up at a cost of $30 000 but if the buyer would be happy to do the work themselves instead you would be happy to knock off $30 000 and sell it to them for $240 000 instead. This means you will be accepting a $30 000 deposit in the form of “Sweat Equity”. The buyer needs NO CASH DEPOSIT. The buyer does $30 000 of work instead.

So – What’s in it for the seller? The seller no longer needs to pay $30 000 for repairs and renovations. The seller will get $40 000 more than expected ($240 000 instead of current value of $200 000). The property title will remain in the seller’s name until the renovations are completed to their satisfaction. The seller doesn’t have to spend precious time doing DIY Renovations.

So – What’s In It For The Buyer? The value of the house will be $300 000 when it is fixed up. The buyer only pays $240 000 to the seller. The buyer knows that DIY is much cheaper than the $30 000 quoted to the seller – say $4000 to $8000, using their own skills and network (relatives, friends, professional contacts).

The buyer will end up with a house worth $300 000 for which he paid only $240 000 (plus costs of fixing up). He/she has $60 000 of “Equity” in the house before they even move in (this is 20% of the house value).

Conclusion: How does this all end?

• The Bank sees a house worth $300 000 and a buyer who has a contract-for-sale for $240 000. They are delighted to lend 80% of the valuation to the buyer ($240 000). Happy Bank!

• The Seller gets $40 000 more than he/she ever believed possible and didn’t have to spend a penny or lift a hammer to get it. Happy Seller!

• The Buyer gets a beautiful home decorated and renovated to THEIR Tastes and the only money spent is about $8000. NO DEPOSIT needed. The bank gave them ALL the money they needed to buy the house at the seller’s price of $240 000. Wow – a beautiful $300 000 home for only $8000 cash. Happy Buyer!

So the “Handyman Special” Strategy for Selling a House has in this case resulted in Happy Seller, Happy Buyer, and Happy Banker. Now that is a WIN – WIN – WIN situation.

Can I Cruise With a Disability?

In the past, people who were disabled but loved to travel had very limited vacation choices. There were accessibility issues, inadequate facilities and lack of staff training to accommodate their special needs. However, for the past 20 years since the instituting of the ADA, major cruise lines in particular took notice and implemented sweeping changes in order to cater to those with special needs. The results have been wonderful for all those who thought that it would not be possible for them to enjoy a wonderful, relaxing cruise.

Special access cabins are often available with refrigerators to store medicine, bathroom grab bars, ramped thresholds, low sinks and roll-in showers. You will want to book your travel plans early enough to insure that you will have the best cabin to suite your needs. Tender systems are in place for boarding and disembarking with careful VIP treatment and assistance given to each guest with any restrictions. The good thing is that these services do not cost any extra.

The # 1 disability worldwide is hearing loss. Changes were made to make cruise travel possible for the hearing impaired such as under-pillow vibrating alarms and staterooms with a special indicating light system which will alert guests to a fire alarm, doorbell, smoke detector, and telephone. Cabins are sometimes equipped with Telecommunications Device for the Deaf (TDD) which will advise the guest of fire, smoke, door knock, telephone and a wake-up service. Most ships are equipped with audible arrival sounds and infrared lighting systems in common areas of the ship. In some cases, with notice, sign language interpreters can be provided.

About a quarter of those with a disability also have some form of vision loss. You will find Braille in most locations on a ship on stateroom doors and elevators, as well as large print braille menus in the dining areas. Service animals are also allowed on the ship, such as guide-assisting dogs and many other animals designed to help people with vision or mobility issues. It is important to check with the cruise line that you are interested in sailing with to see if they have any special requirements that will need to be met to accommodate service animals, for example a "puppy passport."

Great changes have been made for guests with mobility issues. Wheelchairs are available on board ship, however if you have your own wheelchair or motorized scooter, you will be encouraged to bring your own with you. Ships now have wider doorways and special bathroom facilities to make sure all ADA requirements are followed. The result is a safe, comfortable, stress-free vacation for passengers to enjoy themselves on and off board ship.

There are many travelers who suffer from very serious food allergies. Since a cruise is also an experience in gourmet dining, can a cruise ship meet any dietary restrictions you may have? The answer is yes, however you will have to let them know ahead of time so that they will be prepared with delicious food for you when you set sail. Meals such as vegetarian entrees, low sodium, low cholesterol, sugar-free and fat-free are also available upon request. For guests on a gluten, glucose, lactose, sodium or dairy-free diet, you will have to give the cruise line approximately 2 months notice so they may make the necessary provisions for you with the chefs on board the ship.

There is also state-of-the-art medical facilities onboard most major cruise lines in the event you may need medical attention. Most of the time, medical care can be successfully processed for a custom charge. In the event that a more serious condition arises, you may need to be airlifted to a land-based hospital. For either case, I always recommend that it is wise to purchase travel protection insurance "just in case."

As you can see, many wonderful policies have been implemented in order to make cruise travel possible for people with disabilities thanks to the ADA. Most major cruise lines have an 'access desk' that handle special reservations in advance. Careful, advance planning is necessary so that you will have the best vacation possible.

Beware, The EPA Scale ERMI To Assess A Home For Mold Is Misleading!

Don’t ever think that all research is for the advancement of science. Some research actually impedes progress and makes us go backward. Have you heard about the latest breakthrough on testing a home for mold with a single dust sample? It is based on DNA analysis of the concentrations of 36 species of mold. Sounds very scientific indeed. But is this test practical to test a home for mold? We say it is not.

As a result of a research project, EPA researchers devised a scale to assess a home for mold, called ERMI©, for EPA Relative Moldiness Index. Then, the EPA patented their so-called “new technology,” and now the dust sample test along with the ERMI scale is touted as “the standard” for the field of mold testing.

Some background – The EPA Office of Research and Development (ORD), together with the Case Western Reserve University Medical School, conducted a five-year study in the Cleveland area on the effect of mold exposure on children. Their results show that the incidence of asthma in children in mold-remediated homes was extremely low compared to their previous “moldy” home environment. Wow! What a revelation, it took five years to find that out. They should simply have asked us (or you) and we could have told them and spared the taxpayers the cost of such a useless study. No real harm done here, except for 5 million dollars down the drain. Mind you, we are not disputing the obvious results. What is more alarming is that the test they developed for that particular study is now being touted as the latest breakthrough in testing homes for mold. Now, that is damaging! As seasoned mold inspectors we feel that this is going to hinder the progress in accurately assessing a home or building for mold.

Research biologist, Stephen Vesper from the U.S. EPA/Office of Research and Development (ORD)/National Exposure Research Laboratory (NERL), recaps two studies as follows:

Susceptibility to Asthma Controlled by Modifying the Environment

In a just-completed, five-year study in Cleveland-area, water-damaged homes of asthmatics, EPA Office of Research and Development (ORD) researchers, in collaboration with Case Western Reserve University Medical School, established that specific molds were statistically more common in water-damaged homes. When the molds were removed from these homes, the children had a significant decrease in asthma symptoms and symptom days. The result was a statistically significant tenfold reduction in the use of medical interventions (i.e., emergency room visits or hospital admissions) for children living in these homes.

In a just-completed study in Cincinnati, the relationship between mold concentrations and the development of wheeze and/or rhinitis in infants was tested. To measure exposure risk, EPA scientists developed the EPA relative moldiness index© or ERMI© based on the measurement of the concentration of 36 species of molds in floor dust samples by using EPA’s patented “Mold Technology.” The ERMI© values were used to accurately predict the risk for infants developing respiratory illness.

By applying these findings and techniques, we should be able to reduce the asthma burden in the US, reduce the use of medical care, and save lives.

We will spare you the details, but in a nutshell here is how this new patented ERMI© testing works:

A mold inspector collects a dust sample using a cone-shaped HEPA filter trap by vacuuming a specific area of a carpet (or tile or linoleum) in the living room and the main bedroom and the sample is sent to a lab for analysis. You can either combine the two locations or take separate samples, which doubles the cost of the analysis.

We recently had a telephone conversation with Dr. Vesper where he stated that all homes in the US have mold! We say he is mistaken. Unless there is a water or moisture problem causing mold to grow, mold does not grow inside a home, because it simply cannot grow without moisture! Dr. Vesper does not like to say that a home has a mold problem; he prefers to call it “mold burden” and that the range goes from low to high.

The sample is analyzed and the results compared to a national database of homes in the United States and an ERMI© score is derived. For example:

  • An ERMI© score of – 4 means that a given home (client) is in the 25% of homes in the US that have a “low mold burden”.
  • An ERMI© score of 0 means that a given home (client) has an “average mold burden”.
  • An ERMI© score of 5 or higher means that a given home (client) has a “high mold burden”.

So, let us say you plan to buy a two-story home where there is carpet upstairs in the bedrooms, and all rooms downstairs are tiled – living room, dining room and kitchen. A dust sample is collected upstairs in the master bedroom and the tiles in the living room are vacuumed. Results show an ERMI© score of “0”. So, we tell you that a score of “0” is average, and according to the EPA it’s an “average mold burden.” Will you be satisfied with that? Read on.

Although the results of the first project seemed obvious (if you remove mold the wheezing symptoms go away) we question the validity of the dust test and the ERMI© scale. Let us look at the second project: “Relative Moldiness Index as Predictor of Childhood Respiratory Illness”. We find several flaws in that study.

If you were satisfied earlier knowing that your ERMI© score was average, that study reveals that a score of -4.29, yes “-4.29” can predict the incidence of illness. Holy smoke!! Americans are doomed if more than 75% of our homes have enough of a “mold burden” to make us sick! And, if this is true, what is the point of doing any testing at all?


Improper sample selection of “moldy” and “non-moldy” homes

First, the homes were classified as either “moldy” or “non-moldy” based on the following criteria. The paper states:

“A “moldy home”(MH) had at least one of the following: water damage history, visible mold/water damage, or moldy odor. A “non-moldy” home (NMH) had none of these.”

Any experienced mold inspector knows that a visual home inspection is not enough to assess a home for mold, and we cannot rely on our nose to establish whether a mold problem is present. We must also collect air samples. By taking several air samples we can find out 1) how many spores are in the air in a particular room and 2) the species (genera) that are present and their respective amounts of spores. That tells us right away whether there is a mold problem and where.

We certainly cannot rely on a “nose test” because an air test may indicate a mold problem even though neither the occupants nor us could detect a “moldy odor”. Alternatively, on several occasions we have been called to homes because the occupants smelled an odor that they attributed to mold. Our tests revealed normal levels of mold spores, but volatile organic compounds (VOCs) found in new building materials, such as cabinetry or carpet were the culprits, and produced the odor.

We conclude that the samples in that study were improperly selected. Assessing the air quality with air tests would have established scientifically beforehand whether homes had a mold problem or not. Also, the study does not say whether the visual inspections were conducted by “home inspectors” or “mold inspectors.” It only says that the onsite visits were performed by a “trained two-person teams.”


If Plan A does not work, go to plan B

“The Wilcoxon test performed on the mold concentrations for homes grouped by the inspection process into NMH versus MH showed that no species was significantly different in concentration between these two groups of homes.”

” . . . homes were reclassified into “more moldy homes” (MMHs) and “less moldy homes” (LMHs).

It is not proper to choose different groups half way through the study and massage the data with statistics to come up with something meaningful simply because the two original groups, non-moldy homes and moldy homes, did not work out.


The ERMI© scale seemed to have been derived solely with less moldy and more moldy homes.

Referring to the y-coordinate of ERMI© scale “Percent of Homes in the US”, are we to believe that the data representing homes in the US came only from “less moldy homes” and “more moldy homes”? If so, this scale is not representative of homes in the U.S. and is flawed if the “no moldy homes” have been totally omitted.


Improper control of variables of homes with smokers and non-smokers. The researchers state:

“. . . major mold/water damage was observed through home inspection and survey in only 5% of the homes, yet 19.6% of the infants developed wheezing and 49% developed rhinitis at age one. Therefore, most cases of illness were not predictable on the basis of a home inspection. These predictions could have been complicated by other exposures, such as smokers living in the home.”

Indeed, it has long been recognized that children are affected by cigarette smoke. This variable should have been taken into account by selecting only homes with non-smokers.

The researchers added:

” . . . an immediate and obvious improvement to predicting risk of respiratory illness would be to include additional information to the RMI in the predictive model like smoking in the home, pets, dust mites, or other indicators that could be taken from the home survey. Adding these factors to the logistic model might improve the prediction of illness even more.”

Why didn’t they think of that prior to conducting this $5 million study?


The study was biased – The introduction of the research paper indicates that a parallel study of air tests was conducted but the body of the paper hardly mentioned the comparative results. It states:

“A parallel study did not find any associations between the total mold spores count and rhinitis or allergen sensitization. However several associations emerged when mold species were identified.” “However, the methods used in that study are very time consuming and not highly standardized.”

We certainly agree that individual species (or genus) (not the total spore count) should be taken into account as well as their individual amounts of spores and their ratios to be compared to levels found in an outside sample. In addition, the research paper fails to say that air tests are both qualifying (identification of genera) and quantifying (amount of spores).

Researchers made a biased judgment by saying that collecting air tests are “very time consuming and not highly standardized”. We disagree – air test results can be obtained immediately in a lab if you live near a laboratory or as little as one day if the samples are sent overnight to a laboratory. It takes a minimum of five to ten days to get the result from an ERMI© test dust sample. It certainly would have been nice if researchers could have also included the results of air samples as comparison. And, what do the researchers mean by ‘highly standardized?” They talk about standardization when their research is flawed!


Questionable molds found in both moldy and non-moldy homes

Table 1 found in “Relative Moldiness Index as Predictor of Childhood Respiratory Illness” shows Stachybotrys and Chaetomium mold to be present in both “Moldy homes” and “Non-moldy homes”.

We have recapped the information to show the average of mold concentrations for Stachybotrys and Chaetomium as follow:

Stachybotrys: Moldy homes: 3.3; Non-moldy homes 2.3

Chaetomium: Moldy homes: 2.9; Non-moldy homes 2.0

It is known that Stachybotrys mold grows in a wet environment and Chaetomium mold is grows on, among other things, drywall that is wet or has been wet! Both types of mold are often found together in a home with mold problem. How can the researchers explain this?

If we poked around further into the study we would, no doubt, find other flaws. The study does look impressive with all kinds of statistical analyses, but if you read it carefully there are many holes. With statistics all kinds of things can be derived, but massaging the data is not proper. By removing the group of “Non-moldy homes” (NMHs) and then using two groups “More moldy homes” (MMHs) and “Less moldy homes” (LMHs), researchers found something to report. At a score of -4.29 they found a correlation between the incidence of illness in a home with (enough) mold between the “less moldy” and the “more moldy homes.” Give us a break!!! There is no doubt that this study will impress many people because it is based on DNA analysis and many people will accept it at face value and not read it carefully. With all its bells and whistles, we say that ERMI© dust sample testing is flawed.

Until a better tool comes along we will continue to use the traditional method of collecting air samples in different parts of the home with an outside control, and collecting surface samples if mold-like substance is visible. Air samples are not perfect, and things can always be improved but, in our opinion, they give us a better picture than one or two dust samples that are supposed to be representative of the entire home. ERMI© testing does not tell us precisely if and where a mold problem exists. Air tests can. If you had a score of 5 or 10 that would tell you that there is a serious mold problem somewhere (pardon me “high mold burden”). But, we would have to go back to the house and guess what . . . we would have to collect air samples to find the location of the problem. So, why not collect air samples in the first place? Besides, spore trap analysis is very fast, and you could get same day results if you wanted to, while dust sample analysis takes five to 10 days. Clients do not have money to waste on some fancy DNA testing that does not tell them whether a mold problem exists in their house and if so, the location of mold contamination.

Researchers are in their ivory tower and do not have a clue of real situations or budgetary concerns of the average homeowner. Clients want to know three things from a mold inspector:

  1. Do I have a mold problem?
  2. If so where is it?
  3. How do I get rid of it??

This ERMI© scale was designed for a specific study. In our opinion the application of the ERMI© test should not be extrapolated and touted as the “latest technology” to evaluate a home or building for mold, especially because the study was questionable in the first place. Several U.S. laboratories now perform this analysis, and novice and unaware mold inspectors started performing the test for clients. ERMI© testing appears “scientific” because it involves DNA analysis, and thus it sounds impressive for the majority of people. It can identify the species of mold, such as “Aspergillus penicillioides” or “Cladosporium cladosporioides”, or “Cladosporium herbarum” while an air test identifies the genus “Penicillium/Aspergillus”, or “Cladosporium.” We say that knowing the genus of mold is usually enough to assess a home for mold, knowing the species does not really add anything to the testing.

The EPA would have you believe that all homes have a mold problem. A prominent laboratory (not the one we use) states the following in their ERMI© report:

“Mold accumulates in homes over time and can be found in carpet dust and other accumulation sites.”

This is misleading – mold does not accumulate in homes over time. This would mean that older homes have more mold than newer ones. This is not true. During the Florida hurricanes of 2004 we found that most of the mold problems came from homes less than 5 years old. We won’t go into detail here as why this was the case.

Mold is found everywhere on earth and the amount of mold spores fluctuates day by day according to the weather and geographical location. However, if a greater amount of mold spores is found inside a home and/or if the genera are different than the outside it means that a source of mold is growing inside.

It is worth repeating – mold is the result of a water or moisture problem. Mold grows when three things are present – a surface to grow on, organic food, and water. Water being the only thing we can control. Without a source of moisture mold cannot grow. Period!

Dr. Shoemaker, M.D. who treats patients who have been exposed to mold thinks highly of the ERMI© testing, but he warns: “No sampling can replace the skill of the experience mold inspector in investigating mold problems.” What Dr. Shoemaker does not know is that the best mold inspector could miss a mold problem by performing only a visual mold inspection. It is essential to collect air samples in different parts of a home. Then the laboratory results will tell us the amount of mold spores per cubic meter and the genera compared to spores found in an outside sample. With this information we get a picture of what is going on and where. Like air testing, the ERMI© test is a tool to detect a mold problem, but the dust test gives less practical information than the traditional air tests. The score representing the “mold burden” is too vague. If the ERMI© score is elevated, it does not tell the client the location of the problem. Consequently more testing would be required, specifically air tests in various rooms, which would increase the overall cost of testing for the client.

The subject of mold is not well understood and this is why we wrote a book on mold: MOLD MATTERS – Solutions and Prevention, to educate home and building owners about mold from A-to-Z and to teach mold prevention. Much research is needed especially on the effects of mold on health. Since mold affects people differently, there are many people who are not taken seriously when they complain of various symptoms after being exposed to a moldy environment. Research on the effect of mold on health is long overdue and more research should be done in this area.

If researchers come up with better testing that give us more information than air testing in terms of pin-pointing the location of a hidden mold problem (that wall, rather than the other three), and quick turn around analysis, we will jump on it. In the meantime, we feel that the so-called “new technology” of ERMI© testing makes us go backward. It gives us less practical information, it is too vague, and it ends up being more costly to homeowners than air tests. Finally, because the meaning of the ERMI© score is vague, it has the potential of implicating mold inspectors in lawsuits. When mold inspectors get sued because it is found later that a serious mold problem was developing at the time of ERMI© testing, researchers will be far away in their ivory towers and mold inspectors will be by themselves fighting lawsuits against them.

How to Use the PDCA Cycle to Leverage Your Personal Effectiveness

Every person has a mission in his life, whether explicit or implicit, structured or disorganized. Successful people state their missions explicitly. They strive to achieve them through systematic planning, doing, checking, and acting on results to keep alignment to the mission until it is accomplished. These are the people who deserve the personal effectiveness badge at the end of their lives. Achieving one’s personal mission is not an easy job. It starts with developing a Mission Statement, and proceeds as a continuous improvement process that constantly yields behaviors congruent with the mission values and principles.

The Plan-Do-Check-Act (PDCA) Cycle, sometimes referred to as Deming or Shewhart Cycle, is a four-step model used to carry out a change or to realize an improved, envisioned situation. This methodology begins with planning for the change (Plan Phase), then carrying out the change (Do Phase), then analyzing the results and identifying what has been learned (Check Phase), and finally taking action based on what has been learned (Act Phase); if the change has not proved successful, effective people readjust their behaviors to the plan, or they go through the cycle with a different plan, if necessary.

It is not enough to climb the ladder rapidly, but a diligent effort to ensure the ladder is leaning against the right wall is what allows individuals to achieve their goals. Continuous checking on leaning against the right wall requires a systematic methodology such as Deming Cycle that has proved useful in achieving effectiveness on the organizational level, and can also prove successful in achieving effectiveness for individuals through its four phases.

PLAN your roles and goals, and break down your mission statement. As Stephen Covey states in his book ‘The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People’, all things are created twice; a mental or first creation, and a physical or second creation. You design the clothes before you thread the needle. Composing a mission statement is the mental creation to achieve your personal effectiveness. It allows you to explicitly state what you want to be, what you want to do, and the values and principles you will use as bases for that. Hence, this personal ‘constitution’ becomes the criteria based on which your behaviors are evaluated and directed, thus it is the grounds for making daily decisions affecting your life.

This statement is not something easily or rapidly developed, it may take weeks and months to be composed, and to be broken down into roles, goals, and activities. It is easier to decompose the statement into roles and goals to give it a sort of structure and traceability. Once identified, goals are further translated into daily activities that you prioritize and schedule on your personal agenda.

DO your planned activities and walk the talk. Once you have agreed to what is really important to you, you need to work hard to achieve it by sticking to the road map you have established in the first step. In this step, you execute every week in your life around your deepest priorities. You focus on your plan, and do important tasks while you avoid the temptation of doing urgent but unimportant stuff. In other words, you become proactive and effective.

Proactivityis the ability of a man to elevate his life consciously based on his own values, not based on the environment surrounding him. Stephen Covey says that proactivity is more than merely taking initiative. It means that as human beings, we are responsible for our own lives, and that our behavior is a function of our own decisions, not our conditions. Therefore, when you carry out your daily activities, you need to behave in a way that is congruent with the values you set in your mission statement. If you subordinate your values and principles to the conditions surrounding you, you will be led astray, and you will not accomplish what you have established in your personal constitution; the mission statement.

CHECK the results and consequences of your actions as you carry out your daily activities. Every day of your life contributes to the vision you have set initially, and every behavior can be tested against what really matters most to you. To test the effectiveness of your behaviors, you need to gather information and analyze results. It is in this step when you realize where you are standing, and whether your progress approaches your goals or departs away. Here is also where you figure out the root causes of derailment, and where you start thinking of corrective and preventive measures to get back on track.

Depending on the complexity of your mission and goals, you can select from a wide range of tools and techniques to complete this step. Checklists, interviews, brainstorming, mind-mapping, Fishbone diagram, and many other management tools prove helpful to gather information and to analyze results in an effort to take the right decision.

ACT on what you have learned from your behaviors, and realign. Although they look sequential in a cyclical model, practically, the ‘Do’, ‘Check’, and ‘Act’ steps are carried out almost simultaneously. While you are executing your daily activities, you constantly monitor the consequences, and you provide the forces necessary to organize resources in the right direction. If your actions result in outcomes that are not in line with your goals, you better realign to your vision. You may find that some goals are no more valid, and thus you need to rethink them, or even to re-formulate the mission, if necessary.

Your personal environment is changing at ever-increasing pace, and you need to adjust the sail of the ship to keep heading the right direction. Most often, you will be faced with urgent but unimportant tasks that may derail you from your important ones. You need to re-focus your attention and to leverage energies to complete your schedule. You need to be effective rather than being merely efficient.

In conclusion, achieving personal effectiveness requires someone to know what is really important to him and to keep that in mind throughout his life. Once a man becomes aware of his values and principles, he can chart his roles in life, and attach goals and activities to each role in a prioritized, balanced mode. This forms the road map to his success, and he should work diligently to continuously improve it as he walks down the road. The PDCA Cycle is an extremely helpful methodology that guides a person’s endeavor in planning his roles and goals, in doing what he has committed to do, in checking consequences of behaviors, and in acting on results to realign to the ‘true north’ throughout his journey.

Allen Iverson Dunk or Simple Vertical Leap Exercises to Dunk like AI

Do you remember Allen Iverson’s dunk over the 6’11” Marcus Camby? You know, the guy isn’t even 6 feet tall! He is actually only 5′ 10.75”. So its clear that he can jump. But without any exercises no one can jump that high. There are a lot of exercises that may increase your vertical leap but the most of them are simply not effective.

So which exercises are the most effective? Here are the top 5 exercises to increase your vertical leap:

1. Jump Rope

It’s a very common exercise and the reason why is because it works. Jumping rope not only gives you explosiveness and calf strength but is also a great way to build stamina, and work on your overall leg strength. Jump rope at least three times per week to build up your aerobic fitness level.

2. Calf Raises

Just stand in an upright position, then step up on the bench at the height that would put your knee at a 90-degree angle. Do 8 repetitions with one leg and repeat with the other. This exercise is a perfect extension to the lunge-exercise because you train the the antagonistic muscle group.

5. Touch the Rim

Either stand under the rim and try to touch it with one or both hands or take a running start and jump as high as possible to reach the rim. Important: Try to perform this exercise very clean and with maximum power and repeat it only limited times (for example max. 3 sets with 5 repetitions). After that don’t do any leg exercises for 24 – 48 hours. Your muscles need time to grow and regenerate.

Besides these exercises its important that you take care of your nutrition. The most important point here is limiting the amount of fat that you take to you. Fat makes food taste delicious but its the biggest enemy of an athlete cause its the extra weight you have to get up in the air and it inhibits the flexibility of the muscles you need to jump.
