Barrel Saunas – The Perfect Outside Sauna Experience

If you are considering installing a home sauna, it pays to consider all the options available. Many people go for an indoor sauna built from a kit, but have you considered having a stylish outdoor sauna? There are various designs that are available but one of my favorites is the barrel sauna.

As it’s name suggests, a barrel sauna looks exactly like a giant barrel. This is actually a great shape for a sauna because there are less wasted areas compared to a more common square or rectangle shape. This in turn means that they are more efficient to heat and run. The gentle curved shape also makes it an ideal structure to shrug off the elements, whether it be rain, wind or snow.

Getting inside a barrel sauna is a wonderful, refreshing experience. The feeling is of being in a snug, comfortable retreat. There are 2 benches, one either side of the door. This allows up to 6 adults to enjoy the sauna experience while sitting. Alternatively two adults can happily pass the time lying down on the benches.

Barrel saunas can be made from a variety of timbers, but one of the most popular in North America is cedarwood. This has a distinctive aroma and a real sense of quality. It is also a great wood for withstanding everything that Mother Nature can throw at it. You have a choice of stoves that you can install including gas, electric or a wood stove.

When choosing your sauna keep in mind the height. They tend to be 6 to 7 feet tall. Most people will find this to be perfectly adequate. But if you are particularly tall you might feel that the ceiling is a little low.

If you’re interested in purchasing a barrel sauna you have 2 choices. You can either go to a specialist company that will create your product using traditional coopering techniques. The sauna will be delivered complete. The alternative is to find a manufacturer that essentially makes a kit of precut timbers that can then be easily assembled by you at home.

How to Care For a Coffee Grinder

The right coffee grinder is essential in retaining the flavour and aroma of your coffee grounds. If you chose the right grinder, you can easily have great tasting coffee everyday.

But because coffee beans, especially the dark ones, area bit oily, you need to clean your grinder every now and then. When the essential oils are left there for some time, they will accumulate and will later turn rancid.

Here is a step by step guide on how to care for your coffee grinder:

Step 1: Make sure your grinder has stopped working before you clean it. Unplug it so you don’t accidentally push the grind button. Remove the blade and rinse it. If it is too greasy, you can wipe it off using baking soda solution.

Dissolve baking soda in water and use it to rinse the blade. You can wash it off next in soapy water and leave it on a clean towel to dry off.

Step 2: Wash the coffee bean receptacle using the same baking soda solution. Rinse it off afterwards. You should consider doing this everyday so there is no chance for coffee oil to accumulate. Also, the blade stays sharp when cleaned often. Wipe off the excess moisture before putting it back on the motor.

Here are a few tips to keep it in top shape:

Do not pre-grind a lot of coffee at a time. Grind up only those you need for the day. The motor of a grinder heats up quickly. Not only will it impair the functions of the grinder, it will also infuse too much heat on your coffee beans which will then result to a loss of aroma and flavour.

Use the pulsating action of the grinder. If it is a burr grinder, it should work just as well. The pulsating action infuses less heat. This will, in turn, prolong the life of your grinder.

Do not wash it or rinse it when it is still warm from use. Let it cool down before wiping it clean. Store the machine in a non-humid place so molds will not form in its motor.

A perfectly working coffee grinder is undoubtedly the best partner for your brewer. Once you have found that ideal grinder, make sure you keep it in top shape by following the steps mentioned and keeping by heart the tips proposed. In this way, you can be assured of years of superbly working machines.

Facial Analysis Before Plastic Surgery

As a plastic surgeon, analyzing a patient’s face before surgery is obviously important. For anti-aging facial plastic surgery, a great detailed analysis of a patient’s face is not usually necessary as you are ‘nipping and tucking’ loose sagging skin…essentially trying to restore their look of years ago. For plastic surgery involving actual changes in the foundation of the face (moving bone or adding implants), however, a detailed analysis is much more important.

Analyzing facial asymmetries or how the face may look after implant augmentation has much greater significance than a typical facelift patient for example. In this type of facial patient, you are really changing the way they look. While that may be what the patient desires, some patients may find the change different or troubling after surgery. I have found this issue to be particularly relevant in the patient who receives multiple facial implants or other foundational facial changes. Over the years, I have had more than one patient who required revisions of facial implants because of changes that they could not accept even though I and others may have found them to be a good improvement.

Any form of facial analysis before plastic surgery that helps the surgeon and patient have a better understanding of potential outcomes is always welcome. I have come across recently a novel website service that provides facial analysis at a very low cost. At Thatsmyface.com, they offer free online facial analysis and facial statues. Based on a frontal and profile view that you upload into their server, they will generate a facial profile which includes your face aged 10, 20 or 40 years, your face in different ethnicities and sexes, your caricature, identify facial asymmetries, give you an attractiveness rating, and compare yourself to others that may look like you. In addition, you can have customized 3-D statues made. All for very reasonable costs of $29 and up.

I find this website service to be potentially very useful for a small subset of my facial patients. Rather than using black and white photographs with hand-drawn grids on them or other methods of tabletop analysis, this form of facial profile analysis is more detailed and accurate with a quick turnaround time. I or the patients can do it themselves.

While no form of preoperative assessment or computer imaging can guarantee any surgical outcome, any method that allows better presurgical analysis or improve surgeon-patient communication and understanding is valuable.

Web Copywriting: It's Not About You

So, you've got your shiny new website prepped and ready to go. It looks fantastic. Nice new logo, lots of white space, great navigation. What's not to love?

Well, imagine that beautiful website with no words. Or with lorem ipsum filler copy. Who's going to pick up the phone? Nope, for a website to be truly effective, its content must be as well-thought-out as the design.

Let's look at a few ways you can go wrong with that content.

1. It's not about you

Any copywriter who's worked in-house among product champions will tell you it's too easy to start writing about your company, rather than what your company can do for the client. It's easy to slip into – you have a great product, so why whisper about it?

Well, the truth is that your audience does not give a monkey's how long it took to develop, how big the factory is, or that the company was founded in 1867. They just want an easier life or to make more cash. How can your product achieve that? Switch 180 degrees, put yourself in their shoes and ask 'What's in it for me?'

2. Being too subtle

Websites are no place to hide your light under a bushel. Some experts say you have eight seconds to capture a visitor's attention; Some are more generous, with 11. Whatever the true figure, it's at least clear that it's not long.

This means you have to hit your audience between the eyes. You need a headline that speaks to your audience's needs, that cites a pain point with which they can identify, or which promises a much-needed benefit.

You can learn a great deal from newspapers. Journalists are experts at putting the key information in their headline in just a few words. It's also a smart idea to use subheadings to break up the copy and to pull out key words and phrases. You'll also benefit SEO-wise from getting some good H2 keywords in there.

3. Unmega meta

Another howler people make with their websites is with the meta elements. This is the HTML coding that gets read by Google's robots. There are some meta tags that people read, too, though, and it's vital to get them right.

There's the meta title, which describes the page. It should be fewer than 65 characters. It's the thing that's visible in your browser tab. For Google, it's almost everything about your site. And Google is boss.

Then there's the meta description. This should be about 150 characters maximum. This is the block of copy that you'll find under the links on the Google results pages. It's not crucial for SEO purposes but it is key for converting browsers.

Google is pretty keen on meta titles. So this is where you put your top keyword phrases – as close to the start as you can. As for meta descriptions, well, they can make or break your site. So do not use too many keywords or big claims, but do add an incentive, like 15% off a first order. If you want local trade, include geographical information.

Remember – the best thing about tags is that you can change them whenever you want.

4. Short is always beautiful

In short, keep your copy short and to the point. Use paragraphs with a maximum of three sentences and four actual lines. Three or four paragraphs of copy if just fine. If you're struggling to cut it all back, try a professional copywriter . And always, always include a call to action like 'place an order', 'subscribe', 'get a quote' or 'find out more'.

So there we have it – a short guide to clear and concise web copy. One last point – words and pictures must always work together, so do not fall out with your web designer!

The Opportunity Lesson

An opportunity is a chance or an opening in which we might be compelled to take some kind of action or make a move towards something we desire. We are provided with many opportunities doing our daily activities. We will normally only act or take opportunities which are familiar to us. Opportunities provide us with a chance for change because taking opportunities brings a door towards greater growth.

The more we look for opportunities, the more openings we will find. Looking for
Opportunities will give us more chances for greater change to take place in our lives.
Seeing a greater number of opportunities will help us to take the best course of action.
So, it is our job to be aware of our many doors of opportunity that present themselves.

When opportunities presents themselves to us, we must first evaluate the risks involved. If some people have determined the risk is to high; They will hesitate to take that particular opportunity. If an opportunity presents little risk to exposure or harm, we will actually move in such cases. Everyone has a different risk level during their evaluation process. We must all evaluate the risk that we are willing to take for our own selves.

Our solutions have to be seen in the opportunities that life gives us. We often look to see what will be the end result of certain opportunities. Even though, sometimes the end result of an opportunity can not be seen; It can only be perceived. We may decide that the chance is still worth the risk. The more opportunities we see in life, the more end results we can be perceived.

Opportunities require that we make or take some action to activate the process. We
Can think about opportunities all day long, but if we take no action in this process, the opportunities in life will continue to pass us by. We need to have the strength and fortitude to make the required actions or movements. If we have no strength, than we have no action. The optimum situation is for us to have the strength to make the necessary action towards our many life opportunities.

Opportunities are something that we all have to watch for in life. We have to realize that there are varying degrees of risk in all opportunities. We need to have the drive to move forward when our chances appear. Too many opportunities in life pass us by; We have to be ready for opportunities' call. We must make the best out of every opportunity. Our opportunities are similar to the wind, ever changing and ever present.

TV Brackets Are Safety Nets for Your TV

TV bracket manufacturers and dealers continuously advertise to the general public on the ease and speed of installing TV wall brackets in your home. Some of them emphasize in the instruction booklet there are only three quick steps required to mount a flat panel screen on the wall. DIY enthusiasts and professionals support the claims that installing brackets can be done quickly with very little effort. If you ever installed a TV bracket, you will understand why it is so quick and easy to do it. They also advise you to be very sure on the location in the wall as it will be difficult relocating the TV wall brackets to different locations on the wall.

The basic reason is dismanting the brackets can be tiring and time consuming. Keep note that you are encouraged to fix the brackets firmly and securely on studs and joints to ensure that it will not rip off the wall once the television is mounted on the brackets. As such, it is no easy task removing them from their secured positions. Dealers and distributors should provide easy-to-follow instructions and demonstrations on dismanting the brackets from the wall. The information can be very useful when you have to move the television to another location. Although the brackets are fairly strong and sturdy, you should dismantle them with care so the holes and plates are not disturbed and out of shape. The metal used on the brackets is strong and can not be easily restored to its original shape.

Some specialist manufacturers have a quick dismantling system in their TV sets. These TV sets have a teardrop slot which allows the screws to slide back and lock the latch in place. Unlocking the latch facilitates dismounting the TV and removing the TV bracket. If your TV bracket has been in place for a long time, it may be difficult to take out the screws and remove the bolts from the nuts. In some instances, because of the weight and strain of the television on the brackets, the screws and bolts might bend slightly out of position. Since the screws are firmly embedded on the studies and joints, it becomes doubly unscrewing them from their present positions.

Some people try to widen the holes so the screws can come out easily. However, a hole is created, making it unsafe to put screws in that exact location again. You have to cover the hole with some resin or hardening material to make the spot reusable later on. Since TV brackets have colorful designs and look elegant even without a TV mounted on it, some people prefer having TV wall brackets in other locations of the home, ready for mounting televisions when the need arises. Coloring the brackets with the same color as the room allows it to blend with the decor of the room and makes it inconspicuous.

There are different TV brackets in the market. The type of bracket will depend on the location and the television's weight and size. They are manufactured for specific TV brands and models, and by providing the television's specifications, dealers can easily point you to the appropriate TV brackets. Your main concern on the safety of the television can be addressed immediately. To be definitely sure about the strength, you can ask them to demonstrate the different types of applicable TV brackets. You may still need to make some decisions on the aesthetic aspects. They come in different colors and designs to help you determine which fits your room's ambiance.

The Essence Of Photography – Light

Coming at photographic creativity utilizing some artistic principles allows you to view the world through a slightly different lens than most. All the tips, tutorials, tricks and techniques that you can easily learn by doing a quick online search are predicated on one underlying principle, photography is about painting with light. In fact the actual word photography itself comes from a combination of two Greek words: Photo, meaning light and graphia: meaning writing or drawing. Hence photography equals painting with light – literally.

Light sits at the heart of photography, without it there would not be any! This is photography at its most fundamental core. Without light it doesn’t matter about composition, subject or the myriad number of settings available to us as photographic creatives, and yet it is one of the last things that a lot of photographers actually think about.

Keeping in mind the message that lies behind the imagery that you are trying to create is key in this process. The best lighting does not always mean sunrise or sunset. Perhaps the mood that you are trying to portray is one of harshness – midday to mid-afternoon sun! Or the darkness and bleakness in a scene – the lighting condition just prior to a storm. The conditions need to complement and enhance the mood, feelings and emotions that you are trying to capture in that one split moment.

Sometimes we get blessed with the correct natural lighting conditions at just the right moment. Other times we’re not so lucky. Be patient and don’t rush because all it takes is a couple of minutes in the right conditions for an ordinary photo to become an absolute masterpiece. This is one of the key differences between a hobbyist who just ‘snaps and captures a moment in time’ and someone that is passionate about their creativity.

A burning desire to capture not just the moment but to capture and relay all the emotion, feelings and the story behind the scene.

Everybody’s journey in life is different with completely unique experiences. Some photographers or as I like to call them, creative artists have the time and freedom to be able to visualize a scene in their minds and literally wait weeks, months or even years for the correct lighting and conditions to happen to make their masterpiece. Others don’t have that option and that’s neither good nor bad.

Sometimes we just have to make the best out of the moments that we do have, as long as we all keep following the light!

How a Schwinn Airdyne Bike Compares With a Recumbent

There are advantages to riding a simple heavyweight dual action Schwinn Airdyne bike. But after the bike has kept the same design for about thirty years, it can stand some comparison to popular recumbent bikes. Here are 5 ways to compare the two types of bikes before you choose one over the other.

1. Quiet or noise?

Air dyne bikes make a great deal of noise. It’s because the resistance that you oppose as you pedal comes form turning a big fan blade. All that blade noise keeps up quite a racket. In contrast most all recumbent drives use a magnet system to generate resistance. That approach is all but silent. That means with a recumbent one can listen to music, watch movies or anything else that requires quiet. With an Airdyne few noises will top the fan noise.

2. With or without electronic power?

One way to fight boredom that comes with pedaling is available with computer power. Programmable workout routines are possible because of the electronic drives on virtually all recumbent bikes. Vary the programs and you get workouts that vary just as you would riding on the road. That means you can regularly ride different virtual routes and keep workouts fun and interesting. The Airdyne lacks computer power since it isn’t possible to control that big resistance fan except by manually changing the way you pedal.

3. How do you handle breezes?

Part of the comfort of recumbent bikes is the quiet and calm. Exercise in a calm, quiet environment. In contrast, the faster you pedal a dual action bike, the more frantic the wind and noise become. That’s a welcome feel in warm weather, a balmy breeze, but it could be somewhat irritating as well.

4. Isn’t it nice to get something new?

Recumbent bikes generally receive high marks for reliability. However, electronics can fail and the systems are very expensive to repair if that happens. In contrast a Schwinn Airdyne is just abut as bullet-proof as anything that moves. There really are few pieces prone to fail and thus the thing should last for as long as you wan to pedal it, maybe longer. That means you can’t use any really good excuses to get another one.

5. Emphasis on legs?

Recumbent bikes mostly work legs. That means the larger muscles get most of the work. That’s a great way to fitness, to work mostly the larger muscles. Also in most cases, most people would agree that’s where their “problem” areas are. With the Schwinn, you can just work the lower parts, but it’s less convenient. To keep your balance easily, the arms just about have to go along for the ride at least.

A Schwinn Airdyne Bike comes as rugged, heavyweight machine that excels in overall body workouts. It is a simple machine built to last and likely will be the last exercise machine you really need. However, it lags badly the more modern recumbent bikes when it comes to features and comfort. The best bike for you may depend on several factors.

Five Problems That Your Carpeting May Be Causing

If you have carpeting in your home, than you probably have a fairly low quality of indoor air. This remains true even if you happened to be quite diligent in vacuuming and caring for this surface. For households that have residents with existing and chronic respiratory conditions, switching to hard floor surfaces is often the best bet. Following are five reasons why.

What you see on the surface of the carpet is not indicative of everything that is trapped inside. That is because this type of flooring option actually has a thick, under pad. Different particulates can work their way down through the fiber over times. This can lead to unpleasant smell, stains that bleed back up to the surface and a higher likelihood of dirty, dusty air that can exacerbate conditions like COPD, allergies and asthma among other things.

In addition to trapping dirt, pollen, pet dander, dust and other particulates, some carpets are prone to hiding problems like mildew and mold. If someone spills a beverage on the floor, it will be very difficult to get all of this moisture up. Even a very small amount of mildew or mold can quickly spread to other areas of the home if left untreated.

Pervasive odors can also become problematic in carpeted homes, particularly for families that own one or more pets. When people attempt to treat these odors, they are often using products that contain a number of hazardous chemicals. Thus, even the necessary cleaning efforts for carpeting can actually have a negative impact on indoor air qualities. Many homeowners find that once they tear out and replace their old carpets, their homes instantly smell a whole lot better.

When your floor surfaces have trapped dirt and particulates, anything that disturbs these surfaces can end up sending allergens into the air. Simply running and jumping on floor surfaces can be enough to cause problems, particularly for sensitive individuals. Sadly, few vacuums are able to effectively clean these floors all the way down to the absolute deepest levels.

Carpets can be a real hassle to clean, especially in comparison to options like marble flooring. This is all the more true for homes that have lots of people in their households and regular foot traffic. In addition to vacuuming these surfaces will need to be shampooed, spot cleaned and treated for stands on occasion. This is far more labor-intensive than simply sweeping a floor and then wiping it clean with a damp mop or rag.

AFUE Ratings

AFUE (Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency) ratings are something that every homeowner should learn about and be aware of. AFUE ratings are governmental standard of the measured thermal efficiency of furnaces, boilers, hot water heaters, etc. This is not the only measurement available to determine the energy consumption of any such system, and does not calculate absolutes, but rather calculates the seasonal average of heat loss.

This is not the only means of measuring the efficiency of any given system or product, and differences of opinion exist on which is more useful. This is large a circumstantial aspect, dependent upon what the consumer is actually trying to calculate. The AFUE is best overall for season-to-season estimation, whereas if one is trying to determine the heat lost over the short term, a measure of thermal efficiency is probably more accurate.

Regardless of the measure used, the goal is to be aware of how much energy / heat / fuel is used to perform a given task-the home-heating equivalent of how many miles on a treadmill are required to burn off a piece of birthday cake . However, whereas in exercise we are looking to burn the maximum number of calories per mile, in heating a home, the goal is to use as little fuel possible while providing a maximum output of heat.

One of the best reasons for a home owner to be aware of AFUE standards is that, just like auto emission standards, they have changed as more efficient machinery, equipment and insulating materials have been developed and become available for widespread use. For example, currently boilers (anything manufactured in 1992 or later) must have an AFUE of 80%. Boilers older than this are not held to such a high standard, which means the older one's heating system is, the lower its efficiency.

A lower rating means that one of the heater will require more fuel to heat a given space, and lose more heat that should be going into a home to the air. This will raise a homeowner's heating bills significantly in the winter, or force them to live with a much colder temperature than would be necessary with a more efficient boiler.

While there is a significant initial outlay in replacing an older heating system with a new one, the end results will be substantial savings. A more efficient heater can pay for itself in a disproportionately short time and the savings will be immediately noticed in gas or electric bills. Because of these potential benefits, it is important for every homeowner to be cognizant of the age of their heating system.

The savings will be evident in another fashion as well. Most local utilites will reward the reduced environmental impact of a heating system that has a better AFUE rating and is ENERGY-STARTM rated with rebates. Thus, having a licensed heating contractor install a more efficient heating system will result in more heat for less money, leading to increased comfort in the cold months. Along with the sense of well-being that can be earned from being financially rewarded for acting in an environmentally friendly fashion, upgrading becomes a win-win situation.

Do's and Don'ts of Paleo Diet

When we talk about the Paleo Diet, many people wonder what kind of foods they bought to eat and which kind of foods are strictly prohibited. Essentially, the Paleo weight loss plan stresses the intake of fresh fish, lean meat, along with other seafood, fruits and veggies. Due to the few limitations of this diet plan, you will find that it lowers the rates of your bad fats, sugar as well as sodium.

Agricultural products like grains, dairy products as well as processed foods are not permitted. Lean meat should come from healthy animal sources .. Even though many favored to consume raw meat, you may prepare meat by grilling, steaming or broiling. Meat must not be fried. Seafood such as cod, fish and shrimp will also be ideally eaten raw. However, you can prepare them the same way as lean meat.

Fresh fruits and veggies are the best when it comes to Paleo weight loss plan. It does not include yams, potatoes and root crops. Beans along with other legumes are as well prohibited. This applies to foods made from beans, such as soy products and tofu. Grains like wheat, oats, rice and barley are not allowed as well. While beans is not allowed in Paleo Diet, this plan promotes an increase of consumption of nuts. Using the noticeable exception of peanuts (that are legumes); You need to eat much more of walnuts, hazelnuts, almonds, chestnuts, pecans, just to name a few.

The Paleo weight loss plan also limits consumption of salt and vinegar as well as yeast and fermented or pickled foods. Rather than using salt, make use of substitutes that are rich in sodium content, for example celery. Vinegar is preferably replaced with lime or lemon juice. This diet plan advocates using all-natural seasonings. These for example, would be cayenne, chili powder, powdered garlic, oregano as well as lemon pepper.

Refined and processed sugars are strictly disallowed in Paleo Diet. Rather, you need to eat much more foods containing natural sugars, for example fruits and veggies. Great natural sugar sources include honey and maple syrup. You may also use natural alternative sweetening like nutmeg, vanilla and cinnamon. In the same way, you need to just use oils that are natural when cooking. Do not use hydrolyzed fats and processed cooking oils. Rather, use more healthy options like essential olive oil, avocado oil, canola oil and flax seed oil.

Paleo weight loss plan does not just urge you to definitely eat healthy. Additionally, it includes a workout plan which will help you slim down and improve your state of health. It is crucial you have the entire Paleo Diet Food List to make sure that you'd be aware of specific kind of foods permitted along with the options of prohibited foods.

Window Tinting Review – The Truth

The whole truth is Window Tinting Films do not know the difference between the summer sun and winter sun. The window tinting you use on your windows will help to reflect the infrared rays that are given off inside the building as well as outside. People as well as objects can reflect infrared rays. When considering the warmth inside on a cold winter day, this helps much more than you realize.

The house that has dual pane glass on the windows should be treated with extreme caution before adding window film. This should not be attempted by an amateur. The best way to go about this is to have an installer with a professional background to come and give you an idea of whether there is a coating on your windows that could cause the window tint to heat the glass.

This could cause the window to break and this is why many window manufacturers will not honor a warranty on glass that has been covered with a window film. However, most window film manufacturers will warranty their product against windows breaking due to the film as well as seal damage. This is covered as long as you have allowed a professional to help you select the film that is needed.

When it comes to the safety and durability of Window Tinting the use of the window films of today are made much better than the ones even ten or fifteen years ago. There are some concerns when it comes to scratching but that is not a problem. The use of acrylic today is beneficial in keeping the windows from being scratched. The only thing you should not use on the windows is ammonia because this will damage the acrylic.

Nothing is more pleasant than entering a room in the middle of summer when the temperature is soaring outside and finding a cool oasis. This can be made possible in part by the window tinting you have on your windows. This one minor change can help keep the temperature much lower in your home. By reflecting the heat or absorbing it the window tinting helps your air conditioner to keep your home cool even in the hottest conditions.

The other benefit is helping to keep your home furnishings from becoming faded and having to be replaced. The sun can damage many items in the home including your furniture, floors, carpet and drapes. They will end up with faded areas that ruin your interior furnishings. If it is carpet, there is no need to replace it for the same thing to happen. So what are you left to do but put something over that spot to hide it from view?

The drapes would have to be replaced as well but until you do something about it new ones will end up faded as well. This really only leaves one option. And that is to choose the right Window Tinting to protect your home furnishings. This will save money in more ways than one. You will not have to replace and repair your home due to sun damage and the interior of your home will be cooler or warmer depending on the season.

The bottom line is that window film is vital today to save energy, reduce the damage caused by the sun and save you money by reducing the heat entering your home or business, reducing wear and tear on your cooling system and prolonging the life out of your structures interior.

Good Business Sense – Make Your Business Green

Give People What They Want: What Can Your Business Do To Go Green?:

Organic produce and green products managed to survive a recession. This speaks volumes. There are people who want to protect the environment and choose environmentally friendly products whenever they are available. Retailers need to offer recycled, organic and chemical-free merchandise, particularly in communities that are environmentally aware.

Printers should look for post-consumer recycled materials. Restaurants and food purveyors have biodegradable food container options, and they can increase their quality by choosing local ingredients whenever possible. Any manufacturing business can choose raw materials that are recycled or, at the very least, nontoxic materials. All of these options will help green a business.

Honestly market green business strategies. Consumers are becoming jaded because many companies stretch the truth when it comes to their environmental impact. If you managed to reduce waste by 20 percent, then that is the figure that should be advertised. Appeal to the emotions of consumers by stressing personal business goals. For example, keep the public aware of any new projects in the pipeline that will potentially have a positive environmental impact, and share success stories after they are implemented.

Green advertising is becoming commonplace. We are inundated with pictures of trees and wildlife, so try to come up with something unique to market a green business. Choose images that reflect the business itself, and use them to connect with customers electronically. Not only does this save on printing costs, it will also save trees. If it is possible, pick up a green business certification, such as being certified organic, LEED certification or Energy Star ratings. Certifications provide independent proof that companies are succeeding at their attempts to become green.

Ways to Save Money and the Environment:

Green business does more than attract new customers; it will save money. The money saved on energy alone makes going green worthwhile. Start by choosing energy saving light bulbs. They last 10 times longer than traditional bulbs and use 75 percent less energy. Keeping the lights off when a room is empty will also lower the electric bill. Another energy saving tip is not to use light bulbs at all. Many rooms can be lit simply by using available daylight. Remove window coverings and try using natural light. Natural light provides vitamin D and lower energy bills at the same time. Using sunlight at work is also good for growing plants that decorate the room while oxygenating the air.

Along with allowing natural light in, try letting in some fresh air as well. Air conditioners use quite a bit of energy and run up the bill. Open the windows and run ceiling fans on nice days. If it is simply too hot to turn off the air conditioner, turn up the thermostat at the end of the day. Do not turn it off because it takes more energy for it to cool the building when it comes back on in the morning.

Purchasing equipment that is energy efficient can reduce energy bills. Always check the Energy Star rating at before buying new electronics. Make sure that all equipment is clean and in good working order, and turn off machines when they are not being used. Phantom power can be drained by electronics when they are not in use, but there are power strips designed to prevent the loss of phantom power.

Purchasing environmentally friendly products is not only good for the environment; it is good for the health of everyone in the building. For example, nontoxic cleaning supplies are less likely to incite allergic reactions or cause asthma to flare up. Cleaning services that specialize in using only natural, chemical free products are growing. Try finding one, if the size of a building demands a cleaning crew.

Use recycled paper products whenever possible. Look for products labeled that they contain “post-consumer waste.” Recycled paper products that are easy to find include paper towels, toilet paper, napkins and paper plates. Better yet, provide real plates and glasses in the kitchen or break room. These can be washed and reused, which will cut costs on paper products and reduce waste.

Conduct business online or over the phone whenever possible:

We live in the digital age, so why not take advantage of it? Teleconferences make it possible for people across the globe to meet and discuss the business without having to travel. This saves energy and money on travel expenses. Telecommuting is becoming a popular alternative for many employers. Allow people to telecommute at least part of the week if their jobs allow for it. They might appreciate not having to fight morning traffic.

No one enjoys sitting in traffic, but commuting to work still remains a drain on natural resources. There are several options to reduce the energy used simply to go to work. Some businesses encourage employees to carpool or institute working four 10-hour days rather than five eight-hour days. There is also o growing trend of providing “green benefits.” Some companies offer subway passes or bus tokens as part of their employee benefits package. Others go so far as to financially assist employees who green their houses or purchase energy efficient vehicles.

Businesses that require company vehicles should look into energy efficient cars, trucks or SUVs. Hybrids are becoming easier to find as the price of fuel increases. It is also important to understand that a vehicle needs to be maintained for optimal energy efficiency.

Reducing waste will cut costs and help a business go green:

Use shredded papers, obviously not any documents with sensitive information, as packing material. Save rainwater and use it to water plants later. Set the printer to print both sides of the paper automatically, and choose a smaller font size and often style. Century Gothic is a font recommended for saving ink and money. Buy recycled ink cartridges and donate or recycle old electronics and supplies.

Start a recycling program at work and get the employees involved. Recycling bins may be available, but without employee involvement the program will not be successful. Encourage them to find new ways to make the business green and share them. Make going green more than company policy; make it an employee led movement. Employees with environmental interests will connect with the company as the feel that working allows them to support their ideals and draw a paycheck.

Green Remodeling:

This is a good time to remodel. There are plenty of green builders, and the government may offer financial help to certain green building projects. A directory of government programs is available online at http://www.greenbiz.com. Whether building a new structure or remodeling, look into LEED certification. The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System can easily be researched online, and being LEED certified proves to customers and employees that the business is built upon the premises of sustainability and environmental concern.

Like any other business venture, networking is essential. Try to network with other environmentally friendly business owners. Purchase products from other green businesses and refer customers to them. They will return the favor. Find a green business owner to mentor you as you make changes in your own company. Someone with an established green business will likely have a wealth of information on becoming certified, finding products, reducing waste and saving money.

Going green is an important step for a business to take. No matter the size of a company, it is possible to draw in customers and reduce company costs by creating a greener workplace. Green policies will also affect employee morale and involvement. Overall, a green business draws people together as they unite around a common cause. Preserving resources and saving the environment will not only save money and energy, it can also create a sense of pride in knowing that a business built today will have a positive impact on the future.

How Do I Get Motivation to Be Successful?

So to get yourself motivated to be successful, you need to firstly decide what it is you really want, then work out which is stronger – gaining pleasure or avoiding pain. What will make you work harder? For example my goal is to fully work from home so I get to spend as much time as possible with my babies (2nd one due in 7 weeks!!) and earn good enough money for us to live comfortably and have a holiday every year. So the pleasure of seeing my children lots, being able to take them to and from school eventually and attend every assembly and sports day is great motivation for me.

But sometimes avoiding pain is actually a stronger motivator, for example if you have a job you cannot stand and work with people you don’t get on with, or have to see your child upset every time you leave them at nursery, these feelings can push you to work so hard that you can end these painful circumstances.

Relating this technique to losing weight for example could offer the following statements – if I lose weight I’ll fit in to my old size 10 dress (gaining pleasure) or if I don’t lose weight I could end up having a heat attack (avoiding pain). So you have to decide which feels the stronger sensation to give you that motivation to succeed.

Think about your motivating factors and write down answers to the following questions:

What is/are your goal(s)?

What are the things that will give you pleasure to attain these goals?

What are the things that will cause you pain if you don’t attain these goals?

So find out which is stronger, avoiding pain or gaining pleasure and keep those thoughts in mind, or even write them somewhere so you can see them regularly to remind you!

So for example, with your home based business, your little ones are in bed and you could get on with some online training or do some income producing activity, but your favourite programme is on the TV, and you just need to do the washing up, then sort the washing, then tidy the lounge floor covered by toys and so on… STOP AND THINK about your motivating factors! You might say, by procrastinating like this I’m going to have to stay in a job I hate (avoiding pain) or if I stop procrastinating I’ll get to spend more quality time with my children (gaining pleasure).

So you see what I mean, really focus on what will give you motivation! I wish you luck and all the best in your endeavours. Stay strong and get the motivation and keep consistent! Please do feel free to comment and let me know your goals and motivating factors as it’s always great to share ideas.

First Step to Healthy Cats – Eliminate All Grains From Their Food

First Step to Healthy Cats: Eliminate all Grains from their Daily Diet

Most likely, your cat is unhealthy because you are feeding him food with grain as an ingredient. Are your veterinarian bills mounting up because your cat has one health problem after another?  Are you using those “wipes” on your cat every week because its coat gets a little oily and smelly?

Check the ingredients list on the food.  Even if you are buying premium cat food from a well know producer of pet food, chances are you will find some form of grain listed close to the top of the list. That means a large percentage of the food inside consists of grain. And that creates problems for kitty.

Cats Digestive Systems are not Designed to Process Grain

One of the first facts Wikipedia lists about cats is that it is an obligate carnivore.  By definition, an obligate carnivore is “an animal that by its genetic makeup must eat the tissue of other animals in order to thrive. Obligate carnivores may eat other foods, such as vegetables, grains, or fruit, but they must eat meat as the main source of their nutrients.” That last sentence referencing other foods is probably true for your dog, but it is simply not true for cats.

For way too many years both your local veterinarian and your local pet food company have considered cats as a small sort of dog that doesn’t do tricks.  And they operated on the seriously misguideded notion that what is good for a dog is also good for a cat.

Cats are unadulterated, pure and simple carnivores.  They must eat only animal tissue to thrive. Their digestive system is totally set up to digest, assimilate and use protein, fat, organs and bone. And that means a cat’s gut and the associated digestive enzymes are not geared to handle anything but animal protein. Dropping grain into that system is like throwing a wrench into a spinning crankshaft.

Years ago, when I was in college with very little money, a friend gave me a kitten.  At the time, beef heart was both cheap and easy to find in the market, so Francesca dined on raw beef heart, or raw chicken giblets. She thrived and flourished on that diet and never needed to visit the veterinarian from one year to the next.

Decades later, information began circulating about the inadvisability of feeding raw food to cats. I remembered Francesca, and wondered why she had been so healthy for so long even though she ate “the wrong food.”  Nevertheless, when I adopted two young neutered tabbies from a shelters, I fed them a premium cat food that prided itself on provided a balanced diet of meat, grains and vegetables.

Happily, my new cats were only fed this stuff about two weeks when I discovered two books almost simultaneously that were serious discussions about cat nutrition.  The first was by a veterinarian, the second by a woman who had years of practical experience with feline health.  Both convinced me to stop feeding my own cats anything containing grain of any form. The results have been gratifying.  The cats are frisky and vital, and now have beautiful clean fur that never gets oily or odorous.

If you care about your cats the way I know you do, you will immediately dump any remaining cat food with grain in it and replace it with a food that is all animal protein (if it has some vegetables or berries in the recipe, that is fine for now.) I know this is an expensive action to take. But think of it this way: replacing your cat food now is not as expensive as paying the insulin costs of a diabetic cat.
