Titanium Time Travels

Ready to escape to nature? Outdoor activities are a favorite outlet for many of us to decompress from the day-to-day routine. A popular outdoor activity is to hit the trial on a great hike and overnight camping adventure. Of course, if we are camping, we are usually cooking. There’s nothing like some fresh air with a healthy dose of nature to build up a good appetite! In this article, I will highlight a brief history of titanium, an important element now found in some light-weight camping cookware.

First, let’s start by understanding titanium is a chemical element you may have learned about in chemistry class, with the symbol Ti and atomic number 22. It is the ninth-most abundant element in the Earth’s crust and the seventh-most abundant metal. It is a lustrous transition metal with a lovely silver color, low density and highest strength-to-weight ratio of any metallic element. In its unalloyed condition, titanium is as strong as some steels, but less dense. Impressive! It is highly resistant to corrosion in sea water, aqua Regia and chlorine. So, what does this have to do with camping cookware? We love titanium because it is light weight in our packs, exceptionally strong and a good investment, as it holds up well over time.

Speaking of time, did you know titanium was first discovered in Cornwall, Great Britain by William Gregor, the vicar of the Creed parish and amateur geologist in 1791? Gregor recognized the presence of a new element in ilmenite when he found black sand by a stream in the nearby parish of Manaccan. It seemed the sand was attracted by a magnet, so Gregor analyzed the sand and determined the presence of two metal oxides: iron oxide and a whitish metallic oxide he could not identify. Realizing the unidentified oxide contained a metal that did not match any known elements, Gregor reported his findings to the Royal Geological Society of Cornwall and in the German science journal Crell’s Annalen. Interestingly a few years later the oxide was independently discovered in 1795 by Prussian chemist Martin Heinrich Klaproth, in what we now call Slovakia. Klaproth named the new element for the strong Titans in Greek mythology.

Fast forward to the 1950’s and 1960’s, the Soviet Union pioneered the use of titanium in military and submarine applications as part of their Cold War programs. Beginning in the early 1950’s, titanium was frequently used in military aviation, particularly in high-performance jets, such as the F-100 Super Sabre, Lockheed A-12 and SR-71.

Recognizing the strategic value of titanium, the U.S. Department of Defense supported early commercialization throughout the Cold War. So much so, that a large stockpile of titanium was maintained by the Defense National Stockpile Center, until it was finally depleted in the 2000’s. As of 2015, titanium sponge metal was produced in six countries: China, Japan, Russia, Kazakhstan, United States, Ukraine and India (in order of output). So, there you have it – who knew titanium is found and valued worldwide? Today we know that it is a wonderful cooking companion on our many travels across the great outdoors.

Cleaning Your Home Office

It is important that your home office is always clean and tidy, as this means that you would be able to work to a much better standard. Spring cleaning is something that helps individuals to get back into the working routine after the winter, so it is surely something that is worth doing for your own benefit.

The first thing that you have to do is to work out what you no longer need to keep. If you have a large office, or even just a desk, it makes sense to start at one end and then work your way along. You should put things into piles based on whether you think you will need them in the future or not. The things that you will definitely never need again should be shredded and put in the bin. Then, work from one end of the office to the other, and wipe down every surface. This includes your windows, desk, and your computer. After this, you should make sure that everything that sits on your desk has been cleaned before it is returned, otherwise it will simply replace the dirt that you have cleaned away.

Finally, it is important that you get yourself organized. If you are the type of person who never seems to be able to find the things that they need, this is the perfect chance for you to change that. You should make sure that everything has a specific place, and that the things that you use are regularly easy to reach.

Good Health Takes Planning

With kids back in school, personal vacations ending, and work schedules getting busier it is more important than ever to make good nutrition a top priority. If learning how to, or continuing to eat healthy is not on your list of to-do’s, now is the time to add it in.

When good health is not a priority it is easy to let it slip when times get busy. For example, when you have several things going on after work or school it can be easier to order unhealthy takeout food rather than cooking something more nutritious. I have put several practices in place in my life to help avoid such pitfalls.

  1. Plan ahead. Plan enough meals to get you through the week. These should include items for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Once you have a weekly menu, grocery shop when you have time.
  2. Cook food in bulk. This will save you time later when you are not home to cook a meal. If the dish is large, freeze half or part of it for a later meal. Or, if you want to be able to cook something on a specific day, prepare some of it ahead of time. Ideas include cutting up the vegetables, making the sauce, or setting out all of the ingredients.
  3. Keep snacks at work or on hand. At the beginning of each week I walk down the street to the grocery store and stock up on fruit to keep in my desk drawer. That way, I always have something fresh and I am never forced to choose from foods I do not want.
  4. Always sit down for dinner. If time allows, I will also step away from work to eat lunch. It is important to disconnect yourself from other things so that you can focus on your food. You will be more in tune with your body’s hunger cues and will likely eat fewer calories.
  5. Choose wisely. If you have to eat out, or want to eat out, choose items that are healthier. Avoid fried foods or items that are high in fat and calories. A great idea is to check out the restaurant’s website for nutrition information ahead of time. That way you are never surprised when you go to order.

As you can see from this list, none of these ideas are complicated. Good health is about incorporating things that work for you. You may have several other ideas that work better. The key is finding out what works best in your life and then applying it.

In a school or home environment it is probably fair to say that everyone has had times when their access to the Internet has been unreliable or non-existent. And there is the additional issue of what happens when there are problems with the servers running a web based gradebook.

At these times, you realize that it can be advantageous to have both your data and program running locally. Possible problems

  1. Dependency on other software files or libraries
  2. Use of the Windows registry
  3. The requirement of fixed folder names and paths

Software dependency

Some software requires additional support from program libraries or files that are not necessarily installed on all PCs. What this can mean is that even after you install your gradebook onto a removable USB drive, some of the necessary files may only be installed onto your local C drive. What happens then is that when you remove the USB drive and plug it into another PC and try to run your program it may refuse to run, or give an error message because of a missing file (or files).

The potential of this sort of problem ocurring can depend on the particular development tool that the programmer has used to write the gradebook in. While not a complete list, software developed in Visual Basic, .NET or Java can be very dependent on having the correct version of the supporting libraries on the PC that you want to run the gradebook on. Usually you can resolve this issue by making sure the PC you are using is up-to date for those environments.

If you try to run your gradebook and you still get an error message about a missing file, and it does not appear to be related to the above environments, it could mean that there are other additional files that the program depends on. This may be related to database use. If this occurs you may have success solving the problem by using the Find or Search application on your Windows desktop to track down the missing file with the name shown in the error message. The file may be in the Windows folder or in one of the System folders below it. Beginning the search from C: Windows is a good place to start the search.

Assuming you can find the file that the error message is reporting, you can then copy it into the gradebook program folder on the USB drive. Then try to run the gradebook again. If you are lucky the gradebook will run, but it is likely that there will be another file now reported as missing. And so you can repeat the process of finding the file on your local C drive and copying it too onto the USB drive. Depending on how your gradebook has been put together this process may need to be repeated quite a few times before the program will run.

Registry issues

Programs that depend on the Windows registry can also lead to errors, but this time it is not a file that is missing, but instead missing data. What can happen is that when you install your gradebook software onto the removable USB drive, important values ​​are written to the Windows registry that is on your local C drive. Then when you test the gradebook on the same PC it runs well because the registry settings are present. But then when you take the USB drive with the gradebook to a different PC those registry settings will not be present and again the program may refuse to run.

Even though the gradebook may complain of the missing registry values, in some cases it will continue to run by recreating the values ​​it expects in the registry and setting them to default values. Assuming the program does run, this may only result in the inconvenience of some of your gradebook preferences being forgotten and having to be set again to the way you want them.

In other cases the Windows registry may have been used to store important licensing information that is required for the gradebook to run. And then any attempt to run it from a portable USB drive is more likely to result in the program behaving like it is unregistered and not licensed to run on other PCs. In this event the vendor of your gradebook software may be able to offer a solution to get around this problem. That is, if running the program in this way is allowed by the licensing agreement.

Fixed folder locations

With modern software the problem of fixed expectations of folder paths and locations should be unlikly. Developers are hopefully more aware of a user's need to install software at locations that can vary from the recommended default in the install program. While there may be technical reasons to prefer a specific location for a program, there should be ways of working around this, either in the program preferences or by editing a configuration file. Again you will need to contact the software vendor to see what's possible in this regard.


Once you get your gradebook running from a USB drive and experience the freedom it offers, you may want to investigate other software that can run in a portable way. Single or Double Breasted

The first and perhaps most noticeable element of the suit is whether it is single or double-breasted. Single-breasted suits have a single row of buttons down the front, and the jacket flaps only overlap enough to permit buttoning. A double-breasted suit has two rows of buttons, and the front overlaps sufficiently to allow both flaps to be attached to the opposite row of buttons. The choice between single- and double-breasted is a matter of personal taste, though the vast majority of American men choose single breasted suits as that this is what is readily available to them; also a lack of familiarity with the double-breasted option may account for the single-breasted suit’s dominance. Thin gentlemen, particularly those who are somewhat taller, can benefit greatly from double-breasted suits, as they will give a fuller appearance to the figure; on larger men, double-breasted suits can have a tendency to draw attention to the midsection, so careful attention and an expert tailor should be employed.


Lapels come in a variety of styles with a number of options. The lapels’ width is perhaps subject to the most variance, with the extremely narrow lapels of the 1950s standing in stark contrast to the excessively wide lapels of the 1970s. The three-button jacket is the most traditional configuration, taking its cue from English riding jackets; properly worn, it gives the illusion of height. Traditionally, only the middle or second button is fastened when standing, though the top two buttons may be fastened to produce a slightly more formal appearance. Two-button suits are a slightly later innovation, and because they show more of the shirt and tie, can produce a slightly more slimming appearance. Only the top button of a two-button jacket is fastened; with the exception of a jacket with only one button, the bottom button of a single-breasted jacket is never fastened.

Double-breasted jackets most commonly have either four or six buttons on each side – where there are six buttons, only the lower four are for buttoning, though due to the design of the suit, only two will actually be buttoned at any given time. There is also an extra hidden button on the reverse of the outside flap of a double-breasted suit, onto which the inside or “hidden” flap attaches. Contrary to the habits of certain celebrities, a double-breasted jacket is never left unbuttoned when standing, permitting it to flap around wildly; it is always securely buttoned upon standing and remains buttoned until one is again seated. Additionally, while the bottom button of a single-breasted jacket is always left undone, both of the operable buttons on a double-breasted jacket are fastened. As with the gorge of the lapel, the height of the waist buttons can been altered slightly to accentuate or diminish height, but this must be done carefully.

Sleeve Buttons

There are numerous historical reasons for jacket sleeves bearing buttons, from encouraging the use of handkerchiefs to allowing a gentleman to wash his hands without removing his jacket, a traditionally grave social offense in mixed company. Whatever the reason for their arrival on jacket sleeves, they now form an important part of the detail work or trimming of the jacket. Most traditionally, jacket sleeves bear four buttons, though it is not uncommon to find three. Regardless of number, there should be at least as many of them as there are buttons on the waist, and they are always placed within a half-inch or so of the hem. On bespoke suits, and even some of the higher-quality made-to-measure jackets, the sleeve buttons are functional. When the buttons are functional, there is some temptation to leave one button undone in order to draw attention to the feature – and by extension, the quality of the suit – though this is a matter of personal taste.

Jacket Pockets

The most formal are jetted pockets, where the pocket is sewn into the lining of the jacket and only a narrow horizontal opening appears on the side of the jacket. These pockets, being nearly invisible, contribute to a very sleek, polished appearance, and are most frequently found on formal-wear. The next style, the flap pocket, is slightly less formal, though it is perfectly acceptable in all the circumstances where a gentleman is likely to be found in a suit. Flap pockets are made identically to jetted pockets, but include a flap sewn into the top of the pocket, which covers the pocket’s opening. These are the most common pockets on suit jackets, and in the very best, are fabricated so that the wearer may tuck the flaps inside, mimicking the jetted pocket. There are also diagonally-cut flap pockets known as hacking pockets, though they are somewhat less common; the hacking pocket is derived from English riding gear, and is most prominent on bespoke suits from English tailors, particularly those traditionally associated with riding clothes. The least formal are patch pockets, which are exactly what the name implies: pockets created by applying a patch to the outside of the jacket. Patch pockets are the most casual option; they are frequently found on summer suits that would otherwise appear overly formal, as well as on sports jackets.

Ticket pocket

Some jackets, particularly bespoke and finer made-to-measure offerings, include a small ticket pocket above one of the side pockets, generally on the same side as the wearer’s dominant hand. This pocket is rarely used in modern times, and serves more as an indication of the suit’s quality.

Breast Pocket

Moving up the jacket is the breast pocket, which is always open, and into which only one item is ever placed: the handkerchief or pocket square. The reason for this is twofold: First, like the side pockets, any items placed in the breast pocket create lumpy projections which distort the sleek appearance of the suit, and second, the breast pocket and the inside left pocket share the same space in the jacket’s lining, meaning that objects in the breast pocket tend to force items in the inside pocket into the wearer’s ribs, which is quite uncomfortable.


Moving on from pockets we find the vents, flap-like slits in the bottom of the jacket which accommodate movement and offer easy access to the trouser pockets. Jackets have three styles: center, side, or none. Ventless jackets, just as the name implies, have no vents, and are popular on Continental suits; they provide a very sleek look to the back of the jacket, though they can lead to wrinkling when the wearer sits down. Center-vented jackets, very popular on American suits, have a single slit at the back, allowing the jacket to expand at the bottom when sitting. Because of its placement, center-vented jackets have a habit of exposing the wearer’s posterior, though most seem not to mind, as center vents remain the most popular style. A side-vented jacket has two vents, one on either side, generally just behind the trouser pockets, to provide easy access. Side vents also facilitate sitting more easily, moving as needed to prevent the rumpling of the jacket back, which leads to creasing.

Being fit means to be able to answer when your body is called upon. If you look around you will find person after person jogging up and down the streets in the name of fitness. Jogging takes a lot of time up and in my opinion does little other than make you a jogger.

I can give you just two exercises that if done would bring massive benefits in total body development as well as build a lean attacking type body and lower body fat.

Problem is people jog because it’s the easy way out. The easy way out never works. The two exercises’ I want to tell you about will amaze you and results will come extremely fast but at a price. The price is sweat.

Each exercise is a king of exercises in their own right, but together they make up a killer combination.

Jumping rope and pushups are a combination that will have the fittest man or woman in a pool of sweat in just a few short minutes. Both these exercises combined or alone are enough to get you into great shape without ever leaving your home.

Both the pushup and jumping rope have been used by great athletes for decades. But with the media the basics have been thrown aside for more complicated glamor type pretty boy workouts that focus on the six pack of abs.

A quick short workout using a jump rope and pushups will put you back to simpler times, times when people worked out to get into shape not to just look good.

Both exercises will work almost the entire body and with only two exercises and the speed of the results, you will become more athletic, leaner and more explosive than using the standard health club training routine put together for you by some trainer who hasn’t earned the sweat yet. Remember it’s the simple and hard work that get the results.

The workout: Jump rope as fast as possible 100 times then drop down for 25 pushups doing them as fast as possible. You will repeat this back and fourth with no rest for 10 rounds meaning you will finish off with having jumped rope 1,000 times and doing 250 pushups. See how many rounds or how many times you can do this circuit.

I've already written several articles on finding a good trading system, so I will not disclose this article with that lengthy topic.

1. Learn the System-
If there is one thing I see over and over is new e-mini traders trading real money and have, at best, developed a very limited skill level with the material and system he or she has paid for their hard earned money. My preference is for small trade rooms that allow the room to interact. Again, I have written an article on this subject, but when all members of the room can speak to each other, there is a mutual learning process goes on, and their interaction, in my opinion, is often more helpful than the information I may Imp. In short, when you ask questions you let people see where you need help and may get some suggestions how to remedy this or that. Communicating creates a synergy in the room that allows everyone to learn.

3. Experience-
When a new student first starts in the trading room, they generally lack any meaningfulful e-mini trading experience. Simulators are great places to gain trading experience under the right conditions. In order for a simulator to be an effective trading tool, the new e-mini trader must trade the simulator exactly as he or she plans to trade their real money. Invariably, I notice traders trading 300 contracts on a trade, just to see how it would work. You will probably not trade 300 contracts in your life, probably not even 100 contracts; But these playful dalliances with non-reality are very damaging to the discipline and emotional control a consistently profitable e-mini trader most employ. In short, simulated trading programs are great if you trade with them exactly as you plan to trade with real money, but deviation from your specific trading mindset and methodology on the simulation is highly counterproductive.

In summary, I have stated the three most common mistakes new e-mini traders make. Some spend their money on a course, then never bother to develop some mastery of the information. Many traders sit and try to learn as "mutes," and never get the benefit of room wide interaction. And finally, it is very important to use your simulator in the proper fashion. When you are consistent on the simulator, you are ready to go to the market.

When someone I love gets a cold or flu bug … it hurts! So many medical doctors over the years have asked me not how to get well, but how to stay well. The tops of vegetables contain the highest amounts of nutrients. In plant chemistry we learn that nature provides a perfect balance if we adhere to the rules. For instance, a carrot is filled with beta-carotene, a form of vitamin A that is a rich source of nutrients known to protect our eyes, skin, and mucous membranes as well as being one of the most common anti-oxidants known on the Planet. Well the tops of the carrots should not be discarded because they contain huge amounts of other nutrients such as potassium, iron, magnesium, and phosphorus. The potassium rich carrot tops are wonderful in soups (keep the lid on) because potassium is known to help remove toxins from the bloodstream. Sodium rings nutrients in and potassium takes the waste away. Magnesium keeps your bowels moving and that will also help you to stay well.

Okay, if you will not eat your greens, I will have to give you some alternatives for healthy survival. I assure you that if you chop or shred raw veggies you can discreetly add them directly to your soups, salads or other dishes without much flavor change at all. So when we are in love and enjoying an active sex life we ​​signal the brain that we are still vital, we are not going to die any time soon! It is not just the act of sex that stimulates this immune signal activity but the coupling of the powerful emotion of love that will help to keep you well. When you are ill it always helps to have a loving person nearby to care for you. It is always easier to heal when you are in a nurturing and soothing environment.

Get well faster by keeping your bowels moving. If someone has ever told you that you were full of it – that is a very toxic statement. I spend at least 30 minutes a day in the sunlight and if I can not walk out of doors I am always driving with the sunroof open to get adequate Vitamin D. I do some form of exercise daily. My cabinets are literally filled with supplements and homeopathic remedies – just like the kings and queens who understand the "best medicine does not harm (is not a drug) but strengthens you from the core."

Find a good homeopathic physician, and MD who has studied homeopathy and learn about it. I have taught my family to understand the science of homepathy. And as difficult as it may be to forgive how these remedies work, it is important to learn about them. It has always been an extremely wonderful experience to watch someone recover quickly from a cold or flu or injury. Homeopathic remedies in the right hands can work marvelously to bolster your innate wisdom and immune response without risk of drug interaction. Check your local health food store for common remedies. I always choose homeopathy over any other OTC drugs first. Another important natural supplement I keep on hand, is powdered electrolytes, minerals and vitamins, especially vitamin c, potassium and zinc. You can find something called emergency c packs which include vitamins, minerals, and electrolytes all in one. This will work well to help you recover quickly; In crystallized form they are readily absorbed.

In order to be well consistently you must have enough oxygen in your blood – so please get out of doors to walk as often as possible. Also practicing deep breathing exercises or something such as yoga will benefit as well. During the day whenever you feel stressed just take a few minutes and do some deep breathing exercises and mentally inhale something you love, and exhale whatever is bothering you. This type of mental / physical exercise will help to relax you and in turn strengthen your mind / body connection – critical to true health.

My life is filled with many things that I love such as writing articles and books, composing music, volunteering, participating in sport activities, and helping others enjoy happier lives. I am sure to feed my spirit and practice meditation, walks in nature, and enjoy observing the world as a beautiful mosaic. I always challenge myself to try something new every day or at least frequently and attempt to keep fluid with life. I find that getting in a rut is painful, and stagnation or lack of circulation even in the physical body usually tears pain. So I like to engage in many different activities, have a wide variety of friends with vast interests because it keeps life spicy and interesting for me. Do not get me wrong, I am also quite capable and willing to just rest and do nothing at all when I feel pressured by life's responsibilities, or need healing time. If you find yourself ill too often or just stressed to the max you might consider considering away for a few days — the mountains or the ocean areas are good choices. The ionization is healthy, and the atmosphere soothing in many ways. Reconnect with nature and appreciate the landscapes we so often take for granted.

Beyond all of this, one of the greatest gifts and healers I have ever known- is love. Having a loving family and many wonderful loving friends has been a true blessing. Participating in things that thrill you will help keep your immune system strong and your mood up. If you are lucky enough to have a partner that you thoroughly adore, and someone who completely loves you, just as you are … now that is quite a gift and you will find that your life can be enhanced tenfold! Love for me is like a universal medicine for the soul, without it we are often sick, and sour, and quite unhappy. Share your love. With love in our hearts we can all do great things!
