3 Ways to Cure Gout With Cayenne Peppers – Highly Effective Natural Gout Remedies!

There are many natural remedies available to cure gout but if you are in the middle of a painful flare up you want something that will act instantly. Believe it or now, cayenne peppers are great for getting quick gout relief.

Causes of Gout

When you get gout usually you have eaten the wrong food and haven’t eaten enough of the right foods. Gout is caused by the build up of uric acid in your body and one of the main contributors to this is a substance known as purines. Purines are found in many foods such as fatty meats, certain types of fish and shell-fish. The purines break down into uric acid and when enough of it builds up in your body, it forms razor-sharp crystals that can get into joints and cause extreme pain.

Fighting Gout with Cayenne Peppers

1. Your first thought maybe that you would have to eat the Cayenne Peppers but that isn’t how this remedy works. For the first remedy, you simply take 1 table-spoon of cayenne and mix it with one cup of water and one cup of vinegar, mixing it thoroughly. You then take the mixture and apply it to the affected area using a sponge or wash cloth. How simple is that?

2. The second method is just as easy. Take one table-spoon of cayenne and mix it with 1 to 3 table spoons of wintergreen oil and make it into a paste. Then take your fingers and rub the paste into the affected joint and surrounding areas.

3. Another method, similar to the first is to mix 1 table-spoon of cayenne with one cup of water and one cup of apple cider vinegar. Either heat this in a pot or in your microwave until it comes to a boil. Apply the mixture to your affected joint three to four times a day.

Warning: When using these remedies be sure to avoid getting any cayenne pepper in your eyes. Be sure to wash your hand’s thoroughly after handling it.

Installing a Glass Door Handle to a Shower Door

Once you have purchased a glass door handle and have determined that all the pieces are included in the handle set, you are ready to start installing the piece. Before you start installation though, be sure an instruction sheet is included in the sheet. More often than not, you may not have to use these instructions. If you have never installed a glass handle, you will need the instructions.

More often than not, you will be replacing a handle that’s already in place. If the glass handle you’re installing is identical or similar to the one you’re replacing, you may not need the instructions and will be able to do the installation within minutes.

Here is an example of how to replace a glass door handle on a glass shower door.

Your first step is to remove the the old handle and then clean the area from which you removed it. If glue or any other type of adhesive was used on the old one, make sure that any remaining matter is scraped off to allow the new door handle to be installed as smooth as possible.

Next, make sure that the holes on the door itself are of equal distance with the holes on the new glass handle. If the holes match, proceed to drill in the screws. If new ones need to be drilled, mark the surface with a pencil where you wish to place the new screws.

If you are installing a glass handle that does not require screws, you may use an adhesive to install the new handle. Make sure that that you use a strong water proof adhesive that will withstand heat and steam. After you’ve applied the adhesive and have installed the new glass handle, do not use the handle for several hours until the handle is firmly secured.

Rodent Baits and Tips for Snap Traps and Glue Boards

I am often asked what is the best bait to use for mice and rats. Here is a list of what I have used and some tips on how to catch the bait stealing mice and that last smart rat you been chasing after.

1. The cure for “stealth mice” is dry cat food. Friskies or meow mix, or anything else with an X or O shape, or anything like that.

You tie the cat food to the trigger of the mouse trap, with heavy duty sewing thread or something similar. Then, when the mouse comes along and tries to grab it, he can’t help but disturb the trigger.

2. The peanut butter failed, because the mouse could lick it off gently enough to avoid springing the trap.

This works, smash up a 1/2 slice of bacon with some peanut butter. They will lick the peanut butter off but… then try to Bite the bacon and SNAP.

As it gets cold, they are looking for a place to hide. Make sure you also put your traps along a wall to where their head will be at the bait without having to walk around it.

Tried peanut butter and they licked it off without tripping the trap?

3. Tie some yarn or a piece of cotton swab or ball around the trigger and cut the ends close, then put the peanut butter on the yarn.

4. Marshmallows, Hubba Bubba bubble gum, cotton ball with a couple of drops of vanilla extract

5. Mice love cotton, drop some vanilla extract on the cotton tie with floss too.

6. Bedding with a drop of vanilla, maple or chocolate syrup is good bait so try a tissue or a little cotton ball (use a rubber band to anchor it to a snap trap bait holder). Caramels, jelly beans and tootsie rolls (chewed first) are successful as well as snickers bars and Slim Jim meat sticks.

Roof Rats

Rat bait suggestions, such as nuts, peanut butter, orange slice candy, dried apricots, and tootsie rolls (chewed first). Tie the rat bait to a trigger to prevent that tricky rodent from stealing the bait without setting off the trap. For baits that cannot be tied (peanut butter, e.g.), use only small amounts of bait for best results.

Norway Rats

Do you have a rat trap and need to know what the best rat bait options are? Victor® Rat Control recommends the following rat baits to attract Norway Rats. Thin slice of hot dog, bacon, peanut butter, dried fruit, gumdrops, chocolate, a Reese’s cup, or Tootsie Rolls (chewed first), and nesting materials such as dental floss or cotton

Tying the rat bait to the trigger will prevent the rodent from licking or nibbling the bait and stealing it without setting off the trap. For rat baits that cannot be tied (e.g. peanut butter), it’s best to use small amounts.

Remember, some rats are harder to catch and are Neophobic or “extra cautious” of new objects that suddenly appear in their environment. For these cases, rat traps should be placed out, but left unset and baited for a couple days prior to setting the traps. This will give the rats a chance to become accustomed to it.

The Advantages and Disadvantages of Ceramic Disc Taps

Taps drip. It’s inevitable, like death and taxes.

Traditional taps seal using a rubber ring screwed down over

the end of a metal pipe. Sooner or later the rubber is

going to go hard, split or just wear away and it will no

longer seal. Then water seeps through, and the tap starts

dripping. Left alone the problem gets worse as the water

wears away the valve seat. Then you’ll have to either

re-grind the valve seat(Do you own a valve seat re-grinder?

Who would?) or replace the tap. Tedious in either case.

But, it need not happen. Many taps now use ceramic discs.

Method of Operation

Instead of creating a seal by forcing a rubber washer onto

the end of the water feed pipe, they use two ceramic discs

each with matching slots in them. These are held over the

end of the water feed pipe. The lower disc doesn’t move

while the upper disc is turned over the lower disc by the

tap head. Water will only flow when the upper and lower

slots match up.

There are a number of benefits to this arrangement. The most

obvious is that ceramic discs are much harder than rubber

and much more resistant to erosion by water seepage. Hence

they have a much longer life before needing replacement.

Additionally, because the water flows between the two discs,

the discs erode not the metal of the valve. Also, because

of the way the discs are arranged, the taps go fully on with

only one quarter of a turn and tap needs only light pressure

to operate. This light action has the advantage that they

are easy to operate with the back of the hand if your hands

are dirty and for people with restricted movement.

Where they are Used

The ease of operation and the long life mean that most good

quality sink mixer taps have been made using ceramic discs

for a while, but basin taps with ceramic discs are

surprisingly less common. The more use a tap gets, the more

attractive the use of ceramic disc technology becomes. This

is doubly true in hard water areas, which can be murder on

traditional taps.

Everything has it’s downside, and there are cons to ceramic

disc taps. They do eventually wear out and are more

expensive than old style taps and are not suitable for very

low water pressure. Unusually, many of the manufacturers

seem to use standard sizes, so getting a replacement is

often straightforward. Because taps on basins can be either

handed or not not, one can’t always be sure which way to

turn each tap on, this can be annoying! Lastly, unlike

traditional style taps, which take a number of turns to be

on full, you may easily turn the water flow on far more than

meant. The unexpectedly vigorous water flow and splashing

can cause water going everywhere, including over your

clothes. Not Good!

Landscaping Blocks Around Trees – Things to Keep in Mind

Trees offer lots of benefits in any given area. It can do loads of good if you have many of them within your property. And to add more charm and design, you could have some landscaping blocks around trees. This way, you can spend an afternoon sitting under a tree completely shaded from the heat of the sun.

I’ve seen many landscaping blocks of different designs. Each offers beauty and charm of its own. And if you want, you could also add a flower bed to surround the tree. Talk about getting the most out of a good landscaping idea.

Building a wall or block around a tree has to be done cautiously. Otherwise, you could be harming the tree. Here’s a practical steps to guide you with this project:

1. Mark the outline of the area where you’re going to set the blocks. In this step, you have to make sure that you provide the roots of the tree adequate space for its nourishment. A good 3-6 feet from the trunk would be good enough but you also need to keep in mind the relative size of the tree.

To make sure the block is built at an even distance, you can tie a rope at the base of the trunk. Then you can simply use this as a guide to mark the area where you’ll be setting the blocks around the tree.

2. Once you’ve defined the circle where you’re going to set the blocks, you need to dig 2-3 inches down. Make sure the roots of the tree is not harmed when you do this. After digging, you need to level the area where you’ll set the blocks. You can use a plate compacter if you have this tool to make this process easier.

3. Set the foundation of the block. For this step, you need to select the most even blocks that you have. set the blocks in its place. In some instances, you may have to adjust the blocks, use a rubber mallet or even remove it to retamp the soil. This is done to make sure that the foundation is evenly built.

4. Stack the blocks to build the wall around the tree. Make sure that the bricks or blocks are stacked in such a way that makes it very sturdy and durable. One good way of ensuring this is to alternate the joints the way you see most bricks are stacked. This is done to make sure that there are no continuous seams that makes it likely for the whole structure to collapse easily.

5. Prepare and plant a bed or add some embellishment. Some tree allows for a plant bed added within the wall blocks while other trees like oak trees releases acidic secretions which makes it virtually impossible for any other plant to grow within the ring. In such case, you can add some designs to the blocks to make it nice to look at even when it is on its own.

Cleaning the Walls – How to Clean Retaining Wall Blocks

Retaining walls are often meant to be decorative as well as practical, and when they look good, they can add a lot of appeal to your garden or yard. The only problem is that any retaining wall will eventually accumulate dirt, mildew, plant material, and various kinds of gunk that can leave the blocks looking stained and ugly. Luckily, getting the blocks clean again is relatively simple, and with the right tools and some attention to detail, any stained or dirty retaining wall can be returned to its former glory.

Part of what you need to consider, before you try to clean a wall or a few blocks, is that the method that you should use depends on what the wall is made of. If it’s an old stone wall that has stood for decades or longer, or if it is made of prized antique bricks, it’s a very bad idea to go in guns blazing, and ruin the wall by using harsh chemicals or the wrong cleaner. Also, if you go about things in the wrong way, you can drive dirt deeper into the blocks and make the entire job harder. Think carefully before you pull out the pressure washer!

The best place to start, no matter what your retaining wall blocks are made of, is with an ordinary garden hose with a sprayer attachment. (You’ll need the kind that has a reservoir that allows you to add a cleaner to the spray.) Start off by gently spraying down the whole wall, or the blocks that you need to clean. The entire area needs to be soaked, so that when you go to clean out the dirt, there is no wicking action drawing moisture (and dirt) into the blocks or into the wall.

Consider whether or not the wall is in an area where you need to protect the greenery. If you are concerned about runoff from the cleaning process, especially if you are going to use some kind of harsh product to remove stains, then you should consider putting down tarps or plastic drop cloths in order to shield the plants from the worst of the runoff.

Then, these are the basic cleaning options:

* If you are cleaning a stone retaining wall, invest in some professional-grade degreaser, and put it directly into the reservoir in your garden hose sprayer. Soak the entire area to be cleaned, and wait ten to fifteen minutes for the degreaser to work. (The wall will very likely look dirtier than before, as a result.) After waiting, take a power sprayer, and spray down the wall, working from top to bottom and from one side to the other. Keep it up until the wall stops foaming. Then, let it dry.

* If you are cleaning a retaining wall made of bricks or concrete blocks, start off by using some ordinary dish soap in your garden sprayer. Using a dish soap solution and a toothbrush, carefully scrub at stained areas. Spray off the soap with a power sprayer, and let the wall dry.

* If you are cleaning concrete blocks and soap does not remove the stains or dirt, fill your garden sprayer attachment with bleach. (Remember to take appropriate safety precautions, by wearing goggles or safety glasses, and appropriate clothing.) Spray down the wall with bleach, as above; then allow to dry.

* If none of these options work, there is hydrochloric acid. It can be effective in removing stains on some kinds of blocks, but it is too harsh for use on all materials. If you must resort to using hydrochloric acid, make sure that you follow the manufacturer’s directions exactly — or, consider bringing in a professional who can safely work with this kind of hazardous substance.

Ultimately, most dirt and stains on retaining wall blocks are not that difficult to remove, and the average homeowner should be able to do the job. Just remember that you should never start by using a power washer, and that powerful chemicals and cleaners need to be used with an appropriate level of caution.

Getting Past an Apartment Background Check

Most apartment complexes now conduct criminal background checks and this is in order to avoid discriminatory accusations of biased renting and also to protect their investments. Apartments also want to ensure that they keep their reputation as a safe neighborhood so existing tenants can renew their leases. All these factors weigh heavily into why apartments screen their prospective tenants. Another reason why apartments feel compelled to conduct criminal background checks is because they do not want their apartment to be a regular source of police activity and thereby drive rent prices down.

So if you have a criminal record, what are the tactics you can employ? There are a few tactics you can employ but one of the most effective is to get someone who is esteemed in society to vouch for your character. You can achieve this by getting someone like a pastor who knows you to write a letter to the apartment and state that he or she knows you and that you are a reformed person and an outstanding model citizen. To augment the letter, you can also write your own that also explains your side of the story.

One other thing you can include in your letters is the any membership to any community volunteer services. These can be extremely helpful and can sway the apartment manager into granting you an approval.

Apartment managers are also employees who also have bosses and upper management monitoring their actions. Sometimes the apartment manager does not have the freedom to grant you an approval and he or she may have to go to his or her manager. In our experience, if you present yourself convincingly, you may be granted an approval.

Renting an apartment with a criminal record can be a frustrating ordeal especially if you do not know where to start. You may end up with numerous denials which can really wreak havoc on your self-esteem. One thing to remember is not to give up and to think strategically because there is a solution no matter how bleak the situation.

You can also seek more advanced publications which can give you more tips on how to get past an apartment criminal background check.

Flat Belly Diet Reviews – Pros and Cons of the Flat Belly Diet Book

The Flat Belly Diet is a book which enjoys high levels of popularity. The purpose of the book is to help you flatten your stomach without exercise at all. The entire process is to be done with the right nutrition. Now, this book was written by women for women in mind, so I believe that this isn’t such a good book for men as they will probably feel disconnected from the writing. Women will like it better.

The Flat Belly Diet has both good and bad reviews as any popular product has. Of course, some of the people who complain about it have likely not followed the plan to the letter and are just frustrated with their lack of results. Be that as it may, there are some things which aren’t perfect in this book despite the merit that it does have. I want you to know the pros and cons so you’ll come to the best decision possible for you.

Flat Belly Diet book pros and cons

1. The book is very well written, in a clear language which is easy to follow.

3. The diet lasts for 32 days altogether which may or may not be enough to completely flatten your abs.

4. At certain days, the diet prescribes a low calorie intake which may not be right for highly active women.

Overall, despite these cons, you should remember that many women reported good results with the Flat Belly Diet so it can indeed work for you.

Motorcycle Half Helmets – Advantages and Disadvantages

Motorcycle half helmets are one of the more popular styles of motorcycle helmet on the market today because of the freedom that they provide to the rider. This is mainly in part because of the reduced amount of helmet that actually covers your head. Unlike a full face helmet, there is no protection offered to your face and typically anywhere from your ears down.

This could be considered one of the disadvantages of the helmet since is does have a reduced level of protection available to the motorcycle rider. Another disadvantage of the motorcycle half helmet is that there is no eye protection, so the rider is responsible for providing there own eye protection. This may or may not be considered a disadvantage to some since they may want to use there own eye protection anyway.

One huge advantage is the breath ability factor. These helmets are made of essentially half the amount of material that a traditional full face helmet is, which means there is less material that covers your head. This allows for a larger surface area on the rider’s head that air can flow past, which in turn helps keep you cooler while you’re riding. The full face helmet does not leave as much surface area on your head exposed, so there is little area where air can flow to help keep you cool. That is whey there are vents on full face helmets, which allow air flow throughout the helmet.

If you’re considering purchasing a motorcycle helmet, then chances are you have already researched the pros and cons of the half helmet, but in case you didn’t, hopefully this article will have given you a better understanding of some of the advantages and disadvantages of the half helmet.

How to Scorpion-Proof Your Home

Scorpions are ancient creatures. Fossil records indicate they existed over 400 million years ago, looking very much the same as they do today.

Currently there are over 1500 different kinds of scorpions throughout the world, with some still waiting to be discovered. They are found on all continents except Antarctica. There have been 90 different species of scorpions identified as living in the United States and 60 of them live in Arizona.

Every scorpion is capable of delivering a painful sting, the most deadly being the Arizona bark scorpion. Although deaths from a scorpion sting are quite rare everyone should do their best to scorpion-proof their home.

The best way to begin scorpion-proofing your home is to eliminate the places they naturally hide in and where their food sources (other insects) are likely to live.

Look around and remove from the outside of your home improperly piled lumber, debris on the ground, yard trimmings in piles, and other things that provide hiding places for the scorpions and their food prey.

Bark scorpions can easily climb trees and bushes. To prevent such entry to your home make sure that there aren’t any trees or bushes touching your home and providing a pathway for them to enter.

Garbage cans should not rest directly on the ground. Firewood should not be brought into the home until it is ready to go right on the fire. And any firewood should be picked examined and carefully picked up as this is one of their favorite hiding/resting spots. Excessive vegetation covering the soil should be removed or at least minimized especially around the homes structure.

If there are gaps under exterior doors close them with brush strips. Gaps around windows and door framing can be sealed with caulking or weather stripping. Openings that admit wires, pipes, or other service entry should be sealed around the conduits with caulking or some other suitable material. Vents leading to attics or crawl spaces should be effectively screened. The eaves and the roofline should be inspected to determine any possible openings leading to the attic or wall voids, and these permanently closed where possible.

For those of us living in scorpion country, especially Tucson, AZ, the following preventative measures should become a habit:

  1. Always shake out your shoes before putting them on in the morning.
  2. Check sleeping bags of beds before crawling into them.
  3. Check or shake out any clothing that has been laying on the floor before putting it on.
  4. When working in the yard, be careful when picking up anything from the ground.
  5. Wear gloves when gardening.
  6. Be careful when going barefoot as they deliver painful stings when accidentally stepped on.
  7. If there’s an infant in the house sleeping in a crib, place the legs of the crib inside large glass jars as the scorpions won’t be able to climb the glass.

Dealing with scorpions is a fact of life while living in Tucson, AZ. The time and energy invested in scorpion proofing your home is well worth the peace of mind you will gain once it is done.

Basic Low Cost Belt Drives For a Go Kart

Go Kart Drive Line components can be quite expensive, especially if you are thinking of making your own reliable cheap go kart. Typical costs for drive line components can be in the range of 100 to 200 dollars. The cheap alternative, however, to the traditional chain-clutch driven system is the belt drive.

The basic belt drive consists of a driver on the engine and a driven on the drive wheel or axle. The belt is tensioned either by moving the engine forward or by pushing a belt tensioner on the belt.

There are several important requirements for a belt drive. First the proper ratio and second the proper type components.

Go Kart Belt Drive Ratio

The belt drive system in order for it to work requires a steep ratio of 8:1. Any less of a ratio and the engine will stall and the go kart will require pushing in order for it to go. (This 8:1 ratio assumes the wheel is 12 inches in diameter.) The rule of thumb for the pulley size is that the driven pulley needs to be as large as the tire. Any smaller and the ratio will be too little and the engine will stall or the belt will smoke.

Proper Component Selection

One of the big mistakes that first time go kart builders will make is to use a pulley that is made out of zinc. Typically these pulleys can be found at hardware stores; however, they are not able to handle the horsepower requirements of go karts. In fact if you do use a pulley that is made out of aluminum or zinc the pulley will melt after about ten minutes of use. The pulley needs to be made out of steel.

The next important design criteria about an engine pulley is that is needs to be as small as possible. A diameter of 1.75 is about at large as you can go before the ratio becomes out of range and the engine stalls and smokes belts.

Additionally, the pulley will get piping hot and needs to be held in place with Loctite and a bolt on the end of the engine to prevent it from coming off of the engine. And obviously the pulley needs to be keyed to the engine to ensure proper torque transmission to the pulley-belt.

The driven side of the go kart is an entirely different matter. The pulley can be made of sandwiched plywood as the low cost homemade alternative or the pulley can be bought at a local tractor supply store. The wood pulley is attractive because it is very cheap and can be mounted directly to a wheel via bolts.

The belt tensioner system requires some durable tensioner pulleys. Those too can be purchased at a local hardware store. The belt tensioner is basically a pulley that is jammed into the face of the belt causing the belt clearance between the engine driver and the wheel pulley to lessen. This now tensioned belt grabs much better and causes the wheels to turn.

It is important to be on the slack side of the belt when using a tensioner; otherwise you will be fighting the engine and constantly burning up belts. The way to look at a belt is to view it as a glorified rubber band. The belt stretches as it passes the engine pulley.

The tension side will always be tight, but the tensioner on the slack side encourages full belt wrap; and that is the key to the belt drive: at least 180 degrees or more of belt wrap around the engine pulley.

The idea is to get as much surface area grabbing the belt so that it efficiently transfers load through and to the remainder of the drive system.

The tensioner system can be activated by a lever arm or a cable. Usually a spring is used to deactivate the system so that when the clutch is unlatched the engine is not spinning the tires.

Important Note About Belt Tensioners

This is an important note about belt clutch systems. Always make the system deactivate by itself when no human input is being done. For example, the foot releases the pedal, the clutch automatically releases. The reason for this is if the engine is being started, the last thing you want is for it to be in gear. This will cause the go kart to lurch forward during start up. Again, it is important to have the clutch system deactivate automatically.

Numerology’s Birth Chart Lines – Strong Character Traits From Your Birth Date

Wonder why people with the same Astrology sign or Life Path number are so different? In Numerology, part of the reason is that your Life Path is made up of different combinations of numbers in your date of Birth. Some people have strong character traits predicted by the presence of completed lines in their Birth Chart. Are you one of them?

Creating the Birth Chart

Numerology’s birth chart is built using a (3) by (3) square; with the positions numbered from bottom to top, and left to right. The whole number digits are used, while (0) is excluded. A square showing the positions for each digit is shown below:

( 3 )( 6 )( 9 )

( 2 )( 5 )( 8 )

( 1 )( 4 )( 7 )

To chart an individuals birth chart, we take each digit in their Gregorian date of birth, and place it in the appropriate square of the birth chart. Zeros are ignored, so the maximum number of digits in a completed chart is (8), though many people have fewer digits.

For an example, actor Johnny Depp was born June 9th, 1963; so his birth chart would look as follows:

( 3 )( 66 )( 99 )

( _ )( __ )( __ )

( 1 )( __ )( __ )

Determining Birth Chart Lines

A series of numbers on your Birth chart which form a row, column, or diagonal are called birth chart lines. Completed lines show factors which strengthen your character in some way. The presence of three or more lines shows a strong personality with the potential for easy success on your life path.

Note that Johnny Depp, (shown above) has a completed horizontal row (3-6-9) indicating that he has the Line of the Intellect present in his chart.

The following descriptions show what each completed line means.

This line on your birth chart makes you personally powerful, and full of energy. Life is in constant motion. While others just plan or dream, you take action. Once you have reached a decision, you will act on it immediately. Your physical stamina is unusually high. Rest, proper diet, and exercise are critical for you.

Line of the Intellect (3-6-9)

This line on your birth chart lets you think logically and be a good problem solver. You have a well-balanced mind, tend to be well read and have a good memory. You are both creative and intelligent. You need to work on being patient with those less intelligent than yourself.

Line of Emotion (2-5-8)

This line on your birth chart enables you to give love and spiritual joy to those around you. You have a strong empathy for other people’s problems. You probably have some ability in the performing arts. You have strong emotional needs and love, in all its forms, is very important to you.

Line of the Physical (1-4-7)

This line on your birth chart gives you basic good health and physical stamina. You are probably very good with your hands in some way. Try not to be consumed by your chosen career; it may conflict with your outlook on life.

Line of Determination (1-5-9)

This line on your birth chart gives you the strength of will and fortitude to do many things well. You will persist in the face of adversity and overcome life’s setbacks. Negatively, you may have trouble letting go of outdated ideas and plans.

This line on your birth chart gives you the inner peace and serenity to accept whatever life brings. This line is also an indicator of some form of latent psychic ability. You have great compassion and understanding for the people around you.

How to Make a DJ Splitter Cable

Just starting out as a DJ? Don’t have a dedicated sound card, and don’t want to buy one until you’re sure DJing is for you? Or maybe you’re DJing from your iPod or iPad using one of Algoriddim’s djay software programs? Or perhaps you have a sound card, but it’s having technical difficulties just when you’ve got a major event scheduled.

Whatever the reason, there are times when you don’t have access to a DJ sound card or controller but you still need to do a professional job as DJ. And in order to do that, it’s obvious that you need to have two audio outputs from your music player – one that the audience is hearing and a second one for your headphones only, which is usually the next track so that you can find the proper starting place and check the track for speed, EQ and other factors.

Fortunately there is a relatively cheap and simple solution to this problem. If you have dedicated DJ software like Virtual DJ, Traktor Pro, DJ for iPhone, DJ for iPod Touch or DJ for iPad, it is fairly easy to find splitter cables that allow your DJ software to send the audience signal (also known as the master signal) down the left-hand channel of the music player’s stereo headphones output, while sending the signal for the next track (also known as the monitor, cue or headphone signal) down the right hand channel.

Once the signal is split, you use a special lead to take the left-hand master output and connect it to the speakers for the audience to enjoy, while at the same time sending the right-hand monitor output to your headphones so you can cue up the next track properly. In other words, you are using a single stereo audio output to deliver 2 separate mono outputs.

You can easily buy a dedicated splitter cable for DJing on Amazon or other music sites. Or, if you’re handy, you can also make your own splitter cable by using an 1/8″ stereo headphones (TRS) plug to two 1/8″ mono headphones (TRS) jack lead, and then two 1/8″ mono headphones (TRS) plug to 1/8? stereo headphones TRS jack leads, for a total of three leads.

The main disadvantage of this setup is that you’re relying on the quality of your music player’s in-built sound, whether that player is an iPad, computer, iPhone, or other device. So of course if the player is producing a poor quality sound, your DJing sound quality will obviously be sub-par as well.

Another possible problem is that the audience signal that you are generating using a splitter is in mono rather than stereo. However, this is less of an issue than you might expect because most club and bar PA systems are actually mono anyway.

Finally, you do need to keep in mind that the audience signal will only be half-power due to the splitting. If possible you would want to have a mixer or PA system available to boost your signal again so as to give the audience the best music experience.

However, even with these limitations, a splitter cable is certainly a practical and inexpensive tool every DJ should be aware of for those situations when a dedicated DJ controller or sound card simply isn’t available.

Are Silent Second Mortgages Legal?

Borrowers take out second mortgages against their homes to fund large expenses. Medical bills, college fees and home improvement/remodeling are some of the common expenses that borrowers pay off by taking such mortgages. There are some borrowers and sellers who also enter into a ‘silent second mortgage’ agreement. This is most often unethical and in many cases outright illegal.

What are silent mortgages?

Second mortgages that are created without the knowledge of the first mortgage lender are called ‘silent second mortgage’. They are mostly taken because the borrower cannot afford the down payment of the first mortgage.

For example: Borrower Bill takes a first mortgage from Lender L to finance a house worth $200,000. The down payment he needs to make is $20,000. Now, Bill can afford only $5000 and the seller of the house agrees to loan him the rest of his down payment (i.e., $15,000). This seller-buyer loan is a mortgage on the house property that is concealed from the first mortgage lender. This is the silent second mortgage.

Why are such mortgages concealed?

· The capacity of the borrower to make the down payment often plays an important part in determining the total loan amount. The first mortgage lender’s calculation of the borrower’s repayment capacity also takes into account the amount of cash he can offer up upfront.

· When the borrower pays only a fraction of the actual down payment, his exposure in the home is dramatically reduced. For example, Bill has a total exposure of 2.5% in the home with his $5000 down payment. The first mortgage lender believes that he has a 10% exposure with $20,000 down payment. The risk of default faced by the first mortgage holder is immensely higher with Bill’s lower down payment. This is especially dangerous in scenarios such as the housing crash crisis when home values hit rock bottom. Home buyers with low exposure are likely to simply walk away from their loan leaving the home ‘underwater’.

Risks for the seller

The lender also faces a higher risk of default by the borrower. In addition, as this mortgage cannot be documented until the first is finalized, a silent mortgage is often an ‘informal’ agreement. In other words, there no written legal agreement, meaning that this is an unsecured loan with no recourse in the case of a default.

The question of legality

Silent second mortgages are most often illegal for the above reasons. The borrower deliberately misleads the first lender about his financial circumstances by hiding the loan. But there are some situations where these mortgages can be taken legally.

It may be taken in the form of a subsidized mortgage that is waived once certain conditions are fulfilled. One example is the Good Neighbor Next Door program sponsored by the HUD. There are also other circumstances where such a mortgage can be taken in line with the law.

A silent second mortgage may seem to be a wonderful lifeline to a home buyer who cannot afford a down payment. It is very important for both seller and buyer to understand the legalities of such an agreement before entering into a deal.

The New Interior Design Trends In Vogue

For those planning to have their house done up by interior decorators, here is a rundown of the latest trends in interior design.

1. Macramé and fibre-art wall hangings: It gives the sculpture feel to the wall, adding texture while replacing fine art of wallpaper that often is a costly affair.

2. Window sheers: The charm of heavy drapes is on the wane. The trend is more on greater transparency and more light. And sheers are available in linen and rich wool-look. It could be sheer panels with inverted box pleats to give a masculine and tailored look to it.

3. Corduroy upholstery: The look is cool on formal chairs and it is the alternative to velvet, and is equivalent to chenille. The statement is quite gutsy with wider wale.

4. Venetian marbled-paper prints: often found on the back papers of old books, these paper prints with intricately swoopy patterns evoke the romanticism of pre-digital era. The prints are having a renaissance on everything from finely silk-screened linens to the choicest of wallpaper and gold-leafed porcelain.

5. Deco hues: Gray and grease may be going out of the picture when it comes to colour, but for many decorators, bright primary shades are still a source of dislike. The favourite palette for many could be anything muted and Deco-inspired: rose quartz, amethyst, topaz, whiskey, olive and raisin. In short, the colours that seems to be getting filtered through smoke and sunlight. There is an exception however: for many designers, there is a creeping fondness for hits of acid yellow as an attempt to jolt a mellow colour scheme.

1. Ikat prints: Originally used on prints of dresses for the grandest pashas, the Ikat pattern has turned into a patchy print on kitchen towels.

2. All-white kitchens: It is the control-freak look, with the all-white kitchen that gives it a cold, humourless and stark feel to it. However, the new white-glass appliances provide calm and cleanliness, unlike stainless steel.

3. Woodland creatures: The use of Machiavellian foxes, blinking owls, timid deer and, currently, mushrooms in artwork and textiles as decorative motifs is bordering on kitschy. Go for something that is in fact alive like potted fiddle-leaf fig trees.

4. Books reduced to décor: it is actually making a statement about not reading. Wood of books are being dust-jacketed in matching colours, and then stacked into tabletop tableaux or arrayed on shelves with their spines facing the wall.

5. The Belgian look: Passing into a catalogue cliché, there has been a strong influence with the combination of freshly manufactured “antiques” and linen upholstery with neutral tones. No doubt about, a whole room would look like a hotel lobby by having such a look.
