How to Prepare to Install Moulding

Remolding has many stages, the first stage is the preparation of the following work, and uses to be the heaviest. Prepare surfaces to install mouldings- Moulding has to prepared first: cut, sand and finish suitably to apply over clean, dry and perfectly smooth surfaces.

Tools To Prepare Mouldings

Basic tools are

Cope saw

Clamps

Mitre box

Complementary materials to finished

Nails (1/2 inches)

The use of mitre box is to hold pieces while cutting in the exact angel you need. Make joint cuts with a pre-molded trim ( 45 degrees angle)

First you should take the acute measure of the room. Allow an extra spaces for losses derived from cutting.

Always make the piece shorter.

Join the pieces at 45 degree angels

If the moulding piece does not cover the entire extension of the room, join in the suitable joint

Don’t commit any mistake, they are visible if made in the corners. To avoid errors, cut pieces slighter shorter, so they end before the corner.

Small pieces can be added to the corners to finished them. If you don’t like that, try extra care when fitting the pieces and fill any space with a wood putty, after that sand it with care

Have in mind that you will find irregularities in any house, even in the most fashionable.

How to join pieces:

Hammer finishing nail at the end,at different levels on the adjoining piece. Doing this last you will prevent any crack of the trim.

You can glue pieces, too.Trim cracking can occur but you can diminish the risk covering the hammered surface with wood or plastic while you are nailing. The nail will compress internally the wood and that will avoid the crack on the surface. To work free hand or with clamps in the adjustments you need to make, use a code saw.

When you see a precise, fitting pieces, you know that that is a professional moulding: if you respect those premises, your moulding will look professional like.

Trims

Some trims may need to sanded, use several sandpaper of different grades and begin to sand the trims.Once you have sanded carefully with the grain of the wood, remove the sawdust. Do it carefully and use a slightly wet towel to clean it before staining

Any irregularities must been puttied, after that, sand the putty. Get your pieces finished before installing and you will save lot of time and money. Allow the pieces to dry completely.

Depending in the style of the room and your own taste finish can be made by stain, varnish or painting. Discover what type of wood cope with what kind of finish.

Painting a moulding requires several coats: apply the first, let dry. Do it once more and at last, apply the final coat.

Final Recommendation On Moulding Installing

Check the weather: choose nice, clear day with warm temperature and low humidity. This will help to end up your work soon and make it more durable, especially in exposed areas

Choosing an Electric Generator

In times of emergency, it seems that hind-sight is twenty twenty. Suddenly, you become quite aware of exactly what it is that you actually need and what is extraneous in your current circumstances. Luckily, it's easy to think ahead because choosing an electric generator is much more effective if you do not need it just yet. Beside emergency uses, there's also plenty of every day reasons to keep a home generator on hand.

When you are considering what generator is right for your needs, there are several things to consider. First, you will need to know exactly how you plan on using it. The size and power you need will depend on the load requirement. For example, if you normally plan on using the portable generator in your motor home, a smaller 1000 watt model may suffice and still give you sufficient power to run home lights and basic electricity in an emergency. If you want to provide back up for a larger appliance, consider choosing an electric generator in a larger 2000 watt model. A fully functional back-up for your home or business will probably require a 5000 watt or 6500 watt generator. Of course, more power equals higher prices, so you may want to look into used or reconditioned models to save money.

After determining specifically what your power needs are, let's look at the features of the generator. Most come equipped with 120 volt outputs. If you need to operate many tools at a time, you will want to have numerous outlets and switches available. A generator that will operate large appliances like a dryer will need to be equipped with a 240 volt plug.

Also, when choosing an electric generator, be aware of the cost of fueling it. This will effect your bottom line and make a difference in the overall cost of running the appliance. Common fuels include diesel, gasoline and even a propane generator. There's pros and cons to each. Gasoline generators are often cheaper to run. However, if you are storing for a possible emergency situation, keep in mind that propane is more stable over the long term.

As with all purchases, it's always helpful to check product reviews before making the final purchase. Also, when choosing an electric generator, remember that they can be large appliances. Make sure that you have the room to store them when not in use. It might be helpful to keep an extension cord with the appliance as well, to make sure that you can run it at a convenient distance. Having a generator on hand can be not only a godsend in an emergency situation, but also convenient for recreation and work outside the home.

5 Reasons to Plan for the Unknown

When you plan for the future, you may think about positive events such as marriage, starting a family, retirement or grandchildren. Yet there are other life changes such as job loss, illness, disability, or needed to care for a family member, that can take an emotional and financial toll. While it’s natural to avoid thinking about these difficult events, it’s short-sighted to ignore the possibilities. Here are five compelling reasons why it’s better to prepare your finances for the unexpected rather than simply cross your fingers.

Challenging life events are hard enough to manage. Financial decisions made in a moment of crisis may not be the soundest ones and could have consequences for years to come. If you have financial contingency plans in place, you may have less to worry about or distract you from the issue at hand. You can be free to focus on pressing personal situations when it matters most.

You’ll have more choices. Planning when things are going well will give you more options for protecting your finances. Certain options that guard against financial loss may not be available when tragedy strikes. For example, it’s too late to buy insurance after a kitchen fire or a family member becomes ill. Planning ahead can give you peace of mind that you’ll be ready for these types of events.

Careful planning takes time. When you face an unexpected situation, you may not have the time or energy to consider your options carefully. With time on your side, you can be more deliberate, thorough and informed. For example, you can make multiple appointments to meet with tax, medical, financial planning and legal professionals to get advice and recommendations. These professionals can help you with a variety of tasks to prepare for the unexpected, such as updating your will, researching and comparing prices on financial products or insurance, establishing a trust or completing a healthcare directive. All of these arrangements can be complex, requiring a certain amount of your time and attention to get them in order.

It’s the considerate thing to do. Imagine the burden to family members if you’re incapacitated and your finances are in disarray. Having your financial dealings in order makes it easier for a loved one to step in and help, as needed. Make sure a trusted family member knows where key financial documents are and how to contact the professionals who help with your finances.

Action beats fear. Conventional wisdom urges us to ‘hope for the best and prepare for the worst.’ It’s good advice, and having a plan in place is empowering. You may not be able to prevent every unpleasant occurrence in life, but you can soften the blow of a personal hardship by putting safety nets in place. A financial advisor can help you identify options to prepare for life’s uncertainties.

Cleaning Like Magic

Most people cringe at the mere sound of the word clean, but cleaning does not always have to be back breaking. When you are short on time, there are a number of ways to fake a clean house. Achieving the illusion of a clean house is simple and quick. Start with the kitchen, usually this is the first room people tend to see and if you are having company, it's the area guests seem to gravitate toward.

Clean up any lingering aromas by boiling some spices on the stove, or even light a spotted candle or two. Fold your dishtowels in a way that hides any stains or hand them from the oven clean side up. Take down any notes, magnets or drawings hanging on the fridge to get rid of clutter. As for those dreaded dishes overflowing in the sink, grab a large container and stick them away till your company is gone.

Next, move to the living room. If your windows are looking dirty, just close the curtains; It will look like you're showing off the window treatments. Grab any books, magazines or papers you have lying around and put them in a basket to the side. You can even take a few out and spread them on the coffee table for a centerpiece. If your sofa has some stains, use your throw pillows to cover them up or get a clean blanket and drape it over the couch. If you have pets, get some duct tape and run it over the furniture to pick up any hair that's been left behind.

The bathroom may seem overwhelming, but all you have to do is gather all your products and toss them under the sink for now. If the shower is dirty, just draw the curtain closed and it's as if it's not even there. Replace your hand towels with fresh ones to have a clean and crisp look for your guests. If you tend to shed, as most of us do, you can use a lint roller or tape to run over the carpets and pick up any mess that has landed there. Light a candle to make the room smell good and appear clean, and finally hang a nice robe over the back of the door to hide any used towels you may have piled up.

While most of us do not have guests lurking around the house, there are a few other quick fixes you may find handy. If you have any laundry piling up, toss it in the washer if your hampers are full. Stash any stray office supplies you have lying around like pencils or pens in a junk drawer; Take down calendars and notes from bulletin boards or arrange them neatly in rows to be hung up. If you have a library, fix any crooked books or back spines so things look tidy.

All of this can be done in under a few minutes and when your company arrives, they will never know you just faked it. So you do not have to panic next time you receive that last minute call of your parents dropping by or your friends surpring you to come hang out, because you are now a master of the clean house illusion.

How To Start and Run a Successful Lifestyle Business Online

A Personal Insight

Congratulations! You have chosen a really rewarding option into how your business and life will coexist happily ever after.” That was a little note to myself when I chose the lifestyle business option, quite a far cry from a traditional start-up that I was running in the entertainment and events industry after quitting my 9-5 job. The latter required me to be in a specific physical location of course so as to reach and serve my clients.

Today, I run a digital business model and all I need is a laptop handy and an Internet connection. I then choose when I want to do some work and where I want to get that work done. And that my friend is what I call a perfect match! My life meets my business everywhere I go, anywhere I am. The general business rules remain pretty similar and herein I will share my own golden rules that new entrepreneurs will particularly find informative… But first… if you are about to quit your job, you are probably wondering

Can Starting A Lifestyle Business Change Your Life?

No more dreadful Monday morning train commutes to work and staring into a stranger’s face seated across from me wearing sunnies on a cold morning, perhaps a subtle attempt to numb the pain of the lifeless surrounding. They are having the same thoughts as me. “Friday cannot come quick enough”. Then I start thinking about my email box and that Monday morning meeting that I have not prepared for. I have to fill in my boss on the current project status before he can go into another meeting with more important people than me to tell them what I just told him!

I remember having those thoughts and it just makes me queasy as I write this. I know you get the drift. I remember suffering temporary amnesia as I walked out of the house, holding car keys and looking for them all over the kitchen and lounge. I had spent a whole hour pre-occupied in thought on how I will handle the stress that was about to unfold for the next 5 days of my life.

The Road Ahead

As exciting as this new journey is about to be you want to get a few things in order straight away in your new ‘house’ to make this transition process as smooth as you possibly can. That business idea is looking great, you have done lots of research, consulted a few souls preferably smarter than you. You have also been making some new friends. I really hope none of them is still working where you just quit! I soon found out that these friendships only flourished over the years because of shared interests such as office politics that tended to specially thrive on Friday night at the bar when we didn’t have to whisper about overwhelming love for senior management.

The reality now is, you are in an elevated consciousness phase of your life, one that these friendships cannot exist. Your mindset needs to be fed with new insights and nurtured with refreshing thoughts about living a fulfilled life. You have some money saved up in the bank and probably have an actionable step-by-step business plan. There is something of value that you have to share and a strategy to get customers lined up ready to give your ‘something’ a warm welcome into this new world order.

But that is the easy part. I shall be completely honest here; apart from some money that I had saved up at the point of quitting, I really didn’t have much more than a rough idea of what I was going to do. I was risking it all. When I left my day job some years ago, I was at a point where it was either that or I lose my mind.

7 Golden Rules

A New MIND-set:

As with all things new, your mind is the first guy you want to put in check. Let him know there is a new sheriff in town. If you are like me, you have been spending the better part of the last 6 – 12 months buried deep in business books and ripping them apart in your spare time. At some point, you found personal development material captivating. Eventually, you started finding out why that constant nagging feeling of life and lack of fulfilment was. As an example, I had read books like Richdad Poor Dad by Robert Kiyosaki and listened to the audio version of the same in case something was lost in translation! I had also read Think & Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill and Dale Carnegie’s How To Win Friends and Influence People among others.

This is an activity that you will not want to let slip into the overflowing ‘good habits to continue when I get time bucket’. I had one like that and needed no motivation adding more stock completely in autopilot. Mind food is paramount in this journey. You want to stay inspired a good chunk of the time because this is where the sowing is happening. The thing is as abstract as some of the ideas in this material may seem at this point; I found that with time, it all starts to fall into place as the journey progresses. So do not sweat any concepts that are not clear yet. Keeping the reading habit going is all you need. These books are not really designed for reading cover to cover. Think of them like the SAT NAV system your car or as you own version of a personal SIRI.

It is a known fact that our minds don’t like disruption. Whether that disruption is good for us or not, it is not very welcome without some whip cracking. The mind has got everything figured out. It is a very well trained machine with thoughts and habits that shape your life and works even when you are sleeping, doing the ‘regular chores around the house’.

The 9-5 routine mindset is still at this point deeply wired into your system. It’s advisable to start setting up ground rules so that YOU and the MIND are both on the same page. This takes a while and certainly took me the better part of 2 years. Don’t stress just know there are changes you will need to work on consistently in this area. Oh, remember when I mentioned who your new friends cannot be a little earlier?

Breaking The Bad:

I made the mistake of trying to keep a regular 9-5-like routine when I first started my entrepreneurial journey. Big mistake. What tends to happen as a result is, the mind in these early days of business life, is still largely unaware of the ‘new life in construction progress’. It actively runs the old familiar version of ‘code’ from its 9-5 days in the background in stealth mode. You might know what happens when you try to run a new version of Microsoft Windows on old PC hardware? Yes, exactly right!

All sorts of weird compatibility issues are not unheard of.

I did not understand this myself. The mindset driving my routine was still stuck in the old version. The correct term for this is the subconscious mind. So your poor conscious mind, which is pretty much what we operate on until new ways are ‘learned’ runs into a constant battle. It really wants to change the world for you, it’s ready to work hard, promising to cut the Friday night binge that serves no purpose other than a regular headache which eats away the Saturday morning and pinky swears to cut down on addictive TV shows.

Someone, please explain why my favourite big screen stars are also hanging out in these TV shows… like really?

The Deal With Time Management:

As a new entrepreneur what quickly comes into awareness I would say is the time management beast and what seems to be like an endless stream of unmanageable distractions. In a lifestyle business that is run from home, the park, at the beach, the airport lounge or while on safari at The Mara, this can be a constant battle. Don’t get too hang up on being perfect day one with this one. The more I tried to fight it the more I stressed about it. Stress did not improve my time management skills and only added to unfinished tasks that needed more worrying about… I thought! The time drama continued until I put measures to progressively learn how to improve time management.

Keep educating yourself on what works for your schedule and what sorts of distractions are overpowering you. I can tell you now it’s going to be technology related!

It didn’t matter that I was an early riser who wouldn’t go to bed until my eyeballs were literally unlocking themselves from my sockets in protest. Occasionally I got the odd finger in this scuffle! And sometimes I still wouldn’t give up. Now, this does not necessarily equate to being productive. The actual real result was a constant feeling of exhaustion, elevated stress levels, and anxiety.

Why You Need To Design A Routine That Works Around Your Lifestyle Business

I hadn’t changed my routine so my mind would expect the usual treatment, 9 am we are active at work and then at 5 pm it expects that we are on the ‘winding up for the day phase’. I, on the other hand, had with all good intent, added extra hours in front of the 9 and after the 5. Now you can see where the problem was once I kept this up for a while. Insane!!! Create a new routine and optimise around what works for you.

Decide When You Want To Work… Create A Routine… Then Follow It With Military Discipline

Perfecting this phase when you start a lifestyle business, which means your physical surroundings change constantly, it can feel daunting. However, with a well mapped out daily, and weekly routine that you have the discipline to stick with, you will start to see results. In no time, this will end up running on autopilot.

There’s going to be a lot of 10 to 12 hour days, maybe longer but they don’t and shouldn’t be in your constant daily routine. After all, it’s business around your lifestyle. I have 3-hour blocks and generally leave my ‘heavy lifting work’ for when I get into a state of flow, usually after midnight.

Understanding Your Personal Power and Peak Performance State:

This state starts becoming more regular with practice and awareness. Understand your highs (i.e. peak energy state), lows (this is no time to do the books and usually a good time to choose pizza toppings and make big decisions like thin or thick crust?) and my personal favourite flow state (this is creation mode and a good time to change the World). Pick a block of hours that works for you. Once new habits in your routine become solid you will have an easier time telling these states apart.

It’s not unusual for me to get into flow while at the shops looking at apples and kiwi fruit fresh deals of the day. This state for me comes through an insightful thought or sometimes as a series of thoughts back to back, so please keep a hardcover notebook at all times for these moments. You might just stumble on your best business idea yet!

Time management and productivity is a continuous optimisation process. All you have to do is decide how many hours you want to work. Pay attention to your body clock and maximise for times when you are at peak energy states. Then learn to induce these states through rewarding practices like meditation.

Schedule Fun Times on Tuesdays:

Although it’s not how I started off, I am lucky thus far to be working on businesses that allow me lots of flexibility as to when and where I actually work. If this tickles your fancy you are on the right track here. In my case, all I need is my mac book pro and decent wifi. Tip: When I am in a location where the menu has an under $10 dollar price tag frenzy going on, I move on swiftly.

About Tuesdays

Move all the things you used to do for fun on Saturday to this day. The Keyword here is FUN guys so if mowing the lawn is fun! Okay, you get my point. It doesn’t matter what the activity is but I recommend you do it in the early days of your journey. The feeling is absolutely incredible. For me, it was reading the paper and a coffee down the road.

Do you guys wonder why we still print newspapers today?

So, usually, one or two local Moms will swing by the coffee shop and that is all the action there is. The rest of the ‘real’ world folks are at work. This is my opinion but what I found with being Mr Tuesday is that it gives me a boost of confidence and that sense of freedom where I feel, “yeah that’s right, I can do what I want when I want”.

I will point out here that this has nothing to do with money. I have done this even when the reality at that time was ‘cash-flow challenges!’. I am not advocating that you should smile and be happy when you are broke, no no no. When you think about it, this is when you need your mind at a 100% and if all it takes is a series of 3-dollar coffees down the road, so be it. While on this topic, my ideal Tuesday day is on a yacht surrounded by endless views of blue seas at exactly 11 am and a safety vest in close proximity! Unwanted swimming lessons are not part of this plan.

What does your ideal Tuesday day look like?

Your Inner Circle… Your Players CLUB:

This is an interesting one because if you think about your ideal Tuesday above, how many people do you know today can do that? Initially, you will probably be alone or maybe with someone close to you like a partner, wife, girlfriend or somebody else who probably does what you do, or benefits directly from what you do. I found out that the friends I used to hang out with on Saturdays and Sundays in my previous life no longer fitted in the new life I was creating. It’s a delicate balance but I had to make some changes. For the same reason, of course, the folks at your old job will probably not take Tuesday off to hang out at your newly found happy place to share happy coffee with you.

I could go on and on about this inner circle area of the new life but what I realised and accepted was, I needed to decide as part of the journey, to be alone for a little while as more new quality friendships developed. This is still an ongoing process. As an example, a couple of months ago I was in HongKong for a week just by myself. I had a blast but would it have been nicer to share that escapade with someone familiar?

I met new people on that trip and did things I had never done before. I love travelling and it is one of the reasons why starting a lifestyle business was a brilliant model. The thing is, if I can make friends who also have time to be lazy on Tuesdays for happy coffee and random sun baking escapades, that is probably a good ‘new friend barometer’ check right there! Oh and hopefully of course what they do for money is generally not frowned upon by law!

On the real, though, I personally don’t have many of these friends but I found that this is a good time for me to reflect inwards and to focus on my personal growth. If you are new into this game, this could be a good time to spend with a business mentor, perhaps meet other like-minded people in your local community, go deep into nature or maybe just hang out on social media platforms and engage and find out the latest buzz like who got a cat! Seriously the point here is, have a lot of choices in your back pocket that you can go crazy with and if you have bucket list ideas all figured out, check them off weekly without fail.

Family:

Family is very dear to me and I would imagine it’s the same for you too. Perhaps, much so that you are making this decision to escape the 9-5 and really start learning new ways to make money outside the voluntary solitary confinement space (also known as office cubicle). One of my reasons for choosing this journey was my family. To be more available to them and to enhance my own life experiences. To fill those experiences with what I really want anytime I wanted it. The one thing I encountered and you probably might as well, those we love and care for dearly may not understand the new you. These moments may not be as dramatic such as waving placards in protest but you will see it vividly.

Remember how our minds don’t like change?

It’s not their fault and they are probably coming from a place of love for you. Embrace the response you get with love and remember your bigger mission. I had lots of strange conversations with people I love and would have like to be speaking a foreign language at the time. That way being misunderstood would have been spot on. Then one day I realised, they weren’t really saying they disliked my new outlook on life and crazy ideas like giving up a six-figure income.

They were just saying, “We don’t understand how to process this new information”. Please show us how. You might also take consolation in the fact that how well you manage this close relationship is a reflection of how you will do ‘out there’ where the World is short of people like you and me, people who are lost in self-indulgence and totally unconscious of their daily actions will not understand you either!

Remember, training takes time. That’s what it took for me until they somewhat understood. If you are lucky enough to get the all in response from them, great, if not, give them time and if need be, add the space element to it as well. Be kind to yourself.

At the time, I was on a roller coaster going through a myriad of changes both personal and business that required me to be very present. My first business was in an industry I did not know at all, the physical surroundings were not very familiar (I will discuss this in a later post) and a pending divorce as a result of a strained long-distance relationship. Now, this was a lot of action in one headspace!

In Summary

Your circumstances may be a little different from mine for wanting to come this way and choosing this journey. As you go along, it’s reasonable to expect moments where you will be tried and tested by fate. Things will happen that will be out of your comfort zone or out of your control and sometimes both.

In the end, I find that clarity on my why I do what I do sails me through choppy waters. I embrace whatever comes my way with love. Answers to what I don’t know come in the right time. I keep the bigger mission clear in my mind. Creating a life where I can live on my own terms is not free, there’s a price to be paid.

Another really important thing to have a solid business system. I found my answer with the six-figure mentors. They have a step-by-step business system that shows you how to leverage the Internet and start your very own online business. What’s, even more, is that if your goal is to start your own business say around your passion, the business skills you will learn are second to none. From experience with my first 2 ventures as a newbie without a mentor, I would recommend every new entrepreneur make getting a mentor, their number one priority. Looking at how I started my entrepreneurial journey, this was my single most expensive mistake up until today as I write this.

Final Thought

Along the way somewhere, I realised that I needed to give up the idea of perfection and get cosy with uncertainty about what will be tomorrow and experience some discomfort today because of the things that I don’t know yet. I experience more growth as I continue to operate in that mental space. All I have to do TODAY is take to take the next best action. This post is unusually long so if you are still reading, I sincerely thank you. I hope you found some value in there. Feel free to share this post with someone else who will enjoy reading through the ideas and insights I have shared.

Previewing the Cereal Box for Greater Reading Comprehension

Reading more efficiently can be a product of knowing what to read, why you are reading it, and previewing it before you read. That tool, known as looking for schema , is similar to reading the back of a cereal box. When you were a child, you probably enjoyed holding the box in front of you while you ate. You were usually looking at the largest and brightest pictures to give yourself a feel for the game or the puzzle on the box, and then you would take in the smaller details after you had decided if you wanted to play that game. That strategy can be used for reading to increase our understanding of the material before us. Schema, the book's "map" for understanding content, can be found in several places including in each chapter, paragraph, or even each sentence. We can use the schema to work through our reading more quickly by previewing the "largest" and "brightest" pieces of information in the text before we read.

Doing this will help to increase some of the common roadblocks to reading comprehension. Our brains like to be in their "comfort zone" and as a result, when we read we will often find that we can not remember what we read. It's like we were not really reading as our brains relaxed as the words just washed over us. Or, similarly, we do not really engage with the material before we read it because we fail to know the purpose or goal of the reading. We are not really sure what we will gain from the reading, so we just gloss over the words. But if we apply intentional reading skills such as knowing our purpose for reading, expecting to obtain specific information from the book, and using the book's schema to help us, not only will the reading go faster, but we will understand more, retain it longer , And be able to apply the information to our studies.

So where do we find this schema? It can be found in the nouns and verbs, primarily. Those are the words that have "weight" and carry the meaning in any text, and they provide the anchor for the descriptive texts that are coming. Authors also add schema in larger chunks at several specific points in their writing. Topic sentences are a good example of this, as well as the opening and closing chapters of every book. By previewing the opening and closing chapters, or the first and last paragraphs of a chapter, or even the topic sentences of the paragraphs, we can get a pretty good idea of what the author is going to say in that section. If we do this prior to reading the material, focusing on the nouns and verbs in each area, we will have all of the necessary mental "hangars" in which to add the descriptive information when we finally read the text, so increasing our comprehension and Learning of the material at hand.

Taking a few short minutes to look for schema in the reading material before you read it will make a world of difference in how you process and understand the content of what you are about to read. While it might seem odd to preview the reading before you read it, it is a tool that every child can tell you has value, purpose, and great reward!

Interesting Facts About the Octopus Habitat

On the floor of just about any ocean in the world, in the cracks and crevices of ocean rock is the common octopus habitat. Taking a look into the world of the octopus is a fascinating peek into an underwater ecosystem.

The octopus habitat will largely depend on the type of octopus. Most octopuses live in temperate ocean waters, with the exception of the Giant Pacific octopus which makes its home in the Northern Pacific Ocean. The majority of octopuses prefer the ocean floor for their home, although there are varieties that spend at least part of their lives at the surface layer of the open ocean. Areas in the ocean that possess the highest concentration of octopuses are coastal areas, reef areas and benthic, or ocean bottom areas.

Certain similarities exist for all types of octopus habitats. Octopuses are cephalopods, and have a totally boneless structure. As such, the creatures are extremely flexible; able to squeeze their bodies into the smallest nooks and crannies in order to avoid predator attack. They are nesting creatures, creating a home in such a crevice on or near the ocean floor or sometimes even digging a hole in the sand to develop a den. Their home provides a hiding place from their predators as well as a place in which the female can lay and incubate her eggs. An interesting fact about the octopus is that it will gather shells from crustaceans or rocks and build a fortress around the opening of its den in order to disguise it.

There are several types of marine life in the octopus habitat that serves as its food. Small crabs, fish, crustaceans, snails and even other octopus provide a nutritious diet for the creature. To eat, the octopus snares and secures its prey using the suckers on its arm. All of the arms gather the prey and pull it closer to the octopus mouth, where the beak is used to bite the prey. Paralyzing saliva is injected into the prey, which serves to soften the flesh; enabling it to be eaten by the octopus when torn into bite size pieces.

Sharks, moray eel and dolphins share the octopus habitat, but not amicably. These creatures are predators of the octopus. Often, the octopus manages to escape capture through its ability to take on the color, pattern and texture of any other surface; becoming invisible. Or, it will emit a black ink that dims sensory perception of its attacker long enough to allow the escape of the octopus.

The octopus is a fascinating creature; intelligent, interesting and curious, as well as being an intricate member of the ecosystem. The underwater world is a wonderfully balanced ecosystem, one in which the octopus habitat plays a valuable part.

High Investment Trip

For over 12 months I’d planned and prepared for this wilderness landscape photography trip to outback South Australia. I’d driven about a third of the way across the continent to get to my home base at Roxby Downs, a mining town in the arid desert. I’d driven on pastoral station roads for 82 km to Bosworth Station Homestead where I left the car and trailer. I’d ridden on my ATV (that’s a four wheel motorbike) for two hours over the roughest and rockiest ground you could imagine and set up a base camp on Andamooka Island.

Light Meter Lost

I camped the first night and went photographing just on daylight. At the start of my afternoon photo session my light meter was missing. It must have fallen out of my coat pocket while I was riding. If you could see the million, trillion rocks strewn over the desert and where I’d been on the bike, you’d understand that it just wasn’t worth looking for the meter. Five days of photographing in front of me and no way of getting accurate light readings.

Applying the Sunny 16 Rule

The Sunny 16 Rule says that on a sunny day the exposure is the reciprocal of the film speed at f16. That’s 1/ISO @ f16 Here’s how I applied the rule, making notes and an exposure table in my notebook:

First of all, please understand that there are a number of things in life where too much is better than not enough. Among them are your breakfast, your pay and film exposure. I was using 160 ISO film and the nearest shutter speed was 1/125 so I added 1/3 stop to line up with the available shutter speeds. That gave me 1/125 @ f16.

Next, it was winter so I added another stop. That made it 1/60 @ f16. That was fine for the middle of the day.

Being winter, the angle of the sun was low all day so I was photographing for most of the time except for a while around noon when I went back to my camp for a feed.

The above film exposure wouldn’t do for the early and late shots as the light level was decreased. For the first and last half hour of the day I added another two stops making the exposure 1/15 @ f16. Then for the two hours on the noon side of that, I added one stop to the middle of the day reading, making the exposure 1/30 @ f16 for that time period.

Of course, when I used the polarizing filter I added another two stops. When using 400 ISO black and white film I made a new set of figures adding three stops for the red filter.

In order to manipulate depth of field I changed the exposure settings around, 1/8 @ f16 becoming 1/4 @ f22, using the polarizing filter in the early morning.

Checking the Figures

Well, a fair bit of looking at the light and checking the figures went on for the next five days. When I got back to Roxby Downs I used another meter to check my exposure calculations at various times of the day and began to feel more at ease.

Great Negatives

When I got home and processed the black and white film and in due corse got the colour negatives and CD back from the lab, I was relieved and delighted to find that my exposures were pretty close to correct with good detail through the full tonal range from shadows to highlights.

Memorize the Sunny 16 Rule

When I get a new meter I’ll keep it on a cord around my neck in such situations. I’ll also keep the Sunny 16 Rule in the back of my head in case I need it again one day. Remember: f16 @ 1/ISO.

Protect Against Noise Induced Hearing Loss – Noise Barriers For Residential Soundproofing

According to the American Hearing Research Foundation, noise induced hearing loss is a permanent hearing impirement resulting from prolonged exposure to high levels of noise. The site mentioned that 1 in 10 Americans has a loss in hearing that affects his or her ability to understand normal speech. Contractor, Handyman Or Construction Broker?

Every Homeowner needs help around the house from small repairs or spruce-ups to renovations. But how can you determine what type of professional to hire? Here are some tips and differences in home improvement professionals that you should consider.

Contractor vs Handyman: Often a contractor’s fees to handle small projects can be cost prohibitive. A handyman typically handles small jobs around the house and yard for both businesses and homeowners alike, and can provide a practical and cost effective solution. Some jobs require a specific license or are beyond the scope of a handyman. General contractors can handle virtually any major home project. One rule of thumb can be how long the job should take. If it’s going to take more than 2 full days to complete, a general contractor is better equipped to handle the project.

Developing a relationship with a reliable and trustworthy handyman over the long term is a good idea for any homeowner. It’s always nice to address those home improvement projects a house needs from time to time easily and quickly. Before going out and hiring a general contractor to repair a hole in drywall or to paint a room, you can hire a handyman. A contractor’s fees to handle small projects can be discouraging.

There are a few good rules of thumb when considering a handyman. With a little investment in time, you can save both money and energy over the long haul. Here is a list of jobs that you can have one good handyman take care of for you:

* Minor plumbing like leaky faucets, a new sink or fixtures

* Minor electrical work like a new ceiling fan, an added plug or switch

* Fixing a leaky roof or correcting drainage problems

* Miscellaneous carpentry around the house

* Painting a room or garage area

* Siding repair

* Building shelves

* Tile repair or installation

This list could go on and on, but you get the idea. If you’re going to re-side or re-roof your home, you probably need to find a reliable contractor who specializes in those areas of home remodeling. Both Handymen and contractors should provide you with a free no obligation estimate before tackling a project. A homeowner should never hire a handyman until knowing the cost of the project, including materials. A good handyman can offer estimates and work either by the hour, or by the job like a major contractor would.

If you want to work with your contractor, you may be able to. Some handymen prefer to work alone, but most will work with you if you just want some help getting something done. You’ll likely get an hourly rate if you go this route. On the other hand, once a major contractor has outlined the scope of the work involved, and you approve his bid, you need to stand back and let him go to work. You are only in the way at that point.

Some thoughts on hiring a handyman:

* Have a list of all your projects handy before you call someone. Once your handyman is on site, have him price each project separately, then together as a whole. Depending on the work involved, you may be able to save money having him tackle at least a few things all at once.

* Ask for references and don’t be afraid to call one or two of them. There are a few good directories that prescreen local handymen and even perform background checks and call their references for you.

* Until you develop a primary handyman relationship that you are very comfortable with, don’t be afraid to get multiple bids. You can sort through a search like “local handyman” in Google and you’ll get lots of great results. Remember, anyone can buy an ad, but someone who gets top ranked naturally very likely a serious businessman. Make a choice from the top 4 or 5 search results and you will find a trusted pro. If you get multiple bids, let your handyman know you are getting other bids. It’s not only polite but remember that trust is built two ways.

* Ask your handyman what he specializes in. Engage him in conversation. Any handyman service should know a lot about many different things, but you can be sure he is an expert at only a few. Spending a little time up front with him can go a long way. He likely knows other handymen who can take up his slack where he needs it.

Contracting brokers are another option for you. They are like salesmen who work for a lot of different companies. When you call a good contracting broker, he will assess your need and find the right company for the job you need done. He gets paid a commission from the contracting company as though he were on their sales force, collecting his fee from the company you hire after the job is complete. Some brokers simply point at the right company for you. Others work more like a consultant and service provider. Those really are the best kind. They know it’s in their best interest to make sure you are happy with both the level of service and the finished project and work with you in every aspect of the job. Using a broker should not cost you any extra money and can alleviate much of the task load. If your projects require more than one or two different types of professionals, you should consider finding a good broker. A broker can also enhance the entire contracting experience.

How Local Should Your Real Estate Agent Be?

We recently closed escrow on a home in the city of Buckeye that we helped a first-time buyer secure. They kindly sent a note thanking us for helping to make the experience as smooth as possible. They also stated how glad they were to have stuck with us, even as friend and colleagues were pressuring them to use a "local" agent. (We are based in Cave Creek, AZ) It got me to thinking "Is that a valid concern?"

As with many things in life, it depends. Information is so freely available in this hi-tech era, that it is relatively easy to garner information. In a previous life, when I lived in Los Angeles, it was not unusual to sell homes as far apart as Marina Del Rey to the west and back to Pasadena or Glendale to the east. In fact, I even sold one home that belonged to a friend in Palm Springs, some hundred miles away. Although some agents choose to concentrate on one particular area, it is not unusual for denizens of large metropolitan areas, such as Phoenix, to spread their wings a little. We have sold homes in areas as far north as Cave Creek and Anthem (and a vacant lot in Black Canyon City) to the home in Buckeye to the west, and houses in Gilbert and Mesa to the East. The only difference between Phoenix and Los Angeles is the commute time. From Cave Creek to Buckeye, a 70 mile trip, takes about an hour and a quarter. A journey of similar distance in LA would most likely take tow or more hours.

The other important aspect in selecting my wife and I, is that we are very experienced agents. Between us, we have 25 years experience and therefore have run across, and solved, most problems you are likely to encounter in a transaction. We are experienced negotiators. We have many contacts. For example, we are currently representing a buyer on a home in Tonto Hills that has a private water company. A week before closing, the lender required a lot more information on the capabilities of that company. That info can only be obtained from the Arizona Dept. Of Environmental Quality and would take 10 days to access. We got that information the very next business day.

So the question becomes. Are you better off with a "newbie" who lives in Buckeye, or an experienced pro who is willing to undertake a 140 mile round trip to show you properties? How about the Buckeye "pro" who was selling homes for $ 265K three years ago? The exact same home that you just bought today for $ 110K. How helpful was their advice back then? And before you ask, we deterred many of our clients who did not need to buy over the last few years, soon-to-be-retired, for example. There is much more to life than money.

Finally, any business depends upon referrals as its lifeblood, none more than real estate. That is why we are always willing to go the extra mile, literally, to satisfy our clients.

Effects Of Technology And High-Tech Gadgets In Our Lives

Technology is the energy that drives our lives. It runs in the veins of society. Technology is related with innovation and creativity. It transforms ideas and thoughts into reality and into something that is helpful to society and human life. It has brought luxury and benefit to an average person’s life. The level of automation that technology has brought about has saved time and human effort to a great extent. It has simplified the access to information and brought distant places closer.

Technology has automated crucial industrial as well as household processes. The gadgets have penetrated into our homes and have saved us from household chores. Now machines are executing various mundane jobs that once were carried out by human workers. Technology has evolved to such an extent that the machines can do tasks that are physically unapproachable by man.

Comparing the current ways of carrying out tasks with the ways they were performed in the past, we recognize how much the world has changed because of the technology revolution. Technology has enabled us to perform the same tasks with spending less time allowing us to do various other things. It is simply impossible to point out a specific technology for these drastic changes in a person’s life. The level of technological advancement helps measure the economic growth of a nation.

The most remarkable technological gadget is a mobile phone. Cellular communication has revolutionized the telecommunication industry. The conventional phone, also a piece of technology, was one of the earliest technological developments. Now, smartphones have broadened the scope of communication which is not just limited to making long distance calls. Due to the changes in technology, the reliance upon technological gadgets has increased. The capability to transform carbon dioxide into energy is a remarkable development which once established will change our dependence on limited and nonrenewable resources.

The computer technology has altered the face of the world. The internet that seeded from the concepts of computer networking has enhanced the mode of communication and increased the education standards. The use of this internet technology is increasing rapidly. It is one of the most effective platforms for communication and the largest base of information existing today. Due to the technological advancements, a person can gain access to information on any topic, from any place, at any time. Innovations in the present tech-world can enable us to find solutions to urgent and difficult problems. Furthermore, internet has brought a significant positive change to the advertising and entertainment industry. Marketers can reach out to the masses over the internet within seconds and carry out interactive and effective advertising campaigns.

The technology revolution has led to an increase in chat rooms, online databases and personalized web pages. The information technology sector has entirely transformed the outlook of communication with instant messaging, video conferencing and e-mails. With the dawn of technology, individuals are bridging gaps and decreasing the distances in their minds. However, the basic downside of technological advancement is that people have become too much machine dependent and thus are getting lethargic. Robotics, computerization and automation are changing our lives by increasing efficiency and inexpensive labor, thus increasing the rate of unemployment. It is curbing our capability to pay attention.

Technology has no doubt improved our lives and will keep on improving it if streamlined in right direction. It is our responsibility to structure it such that it benefits the society and environment rather than doing harming it. It is due the improvised technology that atomic and nuclear wars have taken place. This has also directed to an increase in corruption as well as pollution. For this reason, a balance between automation and manpower should be maintained.

Jesus Is The Morning Star

Jesus is the light of the morning that takes away darkness. Anywhere the light of Christ shines, it will penetrate and remove darkness. When we ask Jesus to come into our lives, His light shines in our hearts to purify us of every evil deed. It is only the light of Jesus that can truly discern what is in the hearts of man. Our hearts are deceitful and no one can really know it except Jesus.

2 Peter tells us that all this helps us know that what the early preachers said was true. You will do well to listen to what they have said. Their words are as lights that shine in a dark place. Listen until you understand what they have said. Then it will be like the morning light which takes away the darkness. And the Morning Star (Christ) will rise to shine in your hearts.

Promise Of The Morning Star

The morning star is promised to those who are victorious and overcomers of the teachings of Jezebel. To those who have not followed her false teaching which call them deep truths, which are actually the teachings of Satan.

Jesus is the bright and morning star. When we hold out in faith and obedience to God, He has promised to give us His Son Jesus the bright and morning star. With the morning star comes authority to rule over the nations

In the Book of Revelation 22: 6 Jesus says: I, Jesus, have sent my angel to give you this message for the churches. I am both the source of David and the heir to his throne. I am the bright Morning Star.

As it goes on in Revelation 2: 18-29 Jesus is speaking to the church in Thyatira and He says to John: Write this letter to the angel of the church in Thyatira. This is the message from the Son of God, whose eyes are like flames of fire, which feet are like polished bronze:

"I know all the things you do. I have seen your love, your faith, your service, and your patient endurance. And I can see your constant improvement in all these things.

"But I have this complaint against you. You are permitting that woman-that Jezebel who calls herself a prophet-to lead my servants astray. She teaches them to commit sexual sin and to eat food offered to idols. , But she does not want to turn away from her immorality.

"Therefore, I will throw her on a bed of suffering, and those who commit adultery with her will suffer greatly unless they repent and turn away from her evil deeds. I will strike her children dead. The one who searches out the thoughts and intentions of every person. And I will give to each of you whatever you deserve.

"But I also have a message for the rest of you in Thyatira who have not followed this false teaching ('deeper truths,' as they call them-depths of Satan, actually). I will ask nothing more than you except that you hold Closely to what you have until I come. To all who are victorious, who obey me to the very end,

To them I will give authority over all the nations.

They will rule the nations with an iron rod

And smash them like clay pots.

They will have the same authority I received from my Father, and I will also give them the morning star!

"Anyone with ears to hear must listen to the Spirit and understand what he is saying to the churches.

Angel of Light

Jesus is the light of the world. When we ask Jesus to come into our lives and save us, we too are called to be a light in this dark and evil world. As we read in the book of Isaiah, Lucifer was called the son of the morning. He was the bringer of light in the morning. After Lucifer was cast out of heaven for the sin of pride, he lost his position in heaven as a morning star to bring forth light, but he could still disguise himself as an angel of light.

In the book of Isaiah 14: 12-14 it tells of Satan's great fall by saying: How have you fallen from heaven, O light-bringer and daystar, son of the morning! How you have been cut down to the ground, you who weakened and laid low the nations [O blasphemous, satanic king of Babylon!]

And you said in your heart, I will ascend to heaven; I will exalt my throne above the stars of God; I will sit upon the mount of assembly in the uttermost north. I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will make myself like the Most High.

False Light and Wisdom

We must always remember that everything God has created, Satan has a counterfeit for it. God is the creator of all things, Satan can not create, he can only duplicate. The Bible tells us that God created Lucifer to be perfect in beauty and full of wisdom. He was called the son of the morning. He was beautiful, he shined bright, he sound good because he had instruments built inside of him and he was full of wisdom. The book of Ezekiel gives us a description of Lucifer as it speaks a prophecy to the king of Tire which is another name for Satan.

The Wisdom Of God Brings Light

Satan does not want us to receive the wisdom of God. If he can keep the wisdom of God from us, he can keep us in the dark, without knowledge and the light of His salvation. The Bible teachers us that there are two kinds of wisdom. The wisdom of the world, which comes from the devil and the wisdom of God that comes from heaven. The wisdom of God is pure, loving, kind, peaceful, gentle, truthful and obedient. This is the wisdom that we are to ask God for.

James 1: 5

If you do not have wisdom, ask God for it. He is always ready to give it to you and will never say you are wrong for asking.

Wisdom and Spiritual Warfare

In dealing with spiritual warfare we must pray and ask for the wisdom of God in everything that we do. Jesus is the bright and morning star and He is who shines the light in the dark places. When we have Jesus abiding in us, we can go into those dark places and bring the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the lost.

The wisdom of God brings forth light and illumination and it reveals truth. We have to pray that we will always walk in the wisdom of God and never rely on our own wisdom, which is earthly, sensual and devilish.

It is only when we enter into spiritual warfare with the wisdom of God that we will know how to move, when to move and where to move. When we make wisdom the principal thing we will receive insight and knowledge on how to effectively wage war against the powers of darkness. Christ, the morning Star will shine His light in our lives and bring us light, wisdom, understanding and authority to rule.

Proverbs 4: 7

The beginning of wisdom is this: Get wisdom, and whatever you get, get insight.
