How to Form Odd Shaped Concrete Structures for Your Landscape

Ever wonder how they made those odd shaped concrete buildings or curves or triangle shapes? It is not a secret and your imagination is about the only limiting factor. Money of course helps for purchasing materials but in many cases used lumber or plywood will do just fine. Be inventive. A cardboard tube from the inside of a carpet roll when cut in half, makes a great sluice or slide form for a fountain or stream. The wood reels left over from an electric cable roll make a great inside form for a circle for a doughnut shaped form. All these things are free for the asking. There are also specialty materials available such as a product called “wiggle board” which can be flexed to achieve nice smooth curves to the faces of the finished concrete. Take a walk through your local big box store with the thought of finding things that can be used to form concrete. You will be amazed at what you find. Empty pails laid sideways in a wall form make perfect port holes or round window openings. Square, round, triangular or just about any shape you can imagine can be found. You can always make your own shapes as well. Lets take a look at how to form a curved wall.

Starting out with a plate on the floor to create the wall shape you want is your first step. You cannot bend a two by four of course so you use a larger piece of lumber and cut the shape (or part of it) from that. If the curve fits on a two by six, lay out the curve and cut it out with a saber saw. If the curve is longer than your board or more than what can fit on a two by six, use a two by eight and so on. Once all the floor pieces are cut, make a duplicate set which will be the top plate of your form work. Lay the pieces out in place and fasten them to footing or floor. The curved wall is now much easier to build. Using standard two by four lumber, place them as close together as possible along the floor plate to create a curved wall. Install your top plate. Using one quarter inch thick Luann plywood, and starting at one end of your form affix the plywood to the studs and then gently bend the plywood around the wall. You may want to coat the plywood with form oil prior to installing it and although this makes the installation a bit messy, it softens the plywood and makes it even easier to bend. Fasten the plywood to every two by four. This adds strength to your form work and keeps the plywood in place as it dries out. Once the face form is complete you can complete the backside of the form and pour your concrete. Odd shapes may be built into the face of the form to provide recess’s in the concrete or holes in the wall and so on.

Free form concrete can be great fun but requires a concrete pump that can shoot a concrete product called gunite or shotcrete. Any shape is possible and is limited only by the pull of gravity. Rebar, foam forms and other items can be used as temporary forms for the concrete until it hardens. In-ground swimming pools are quite often made of gunite which is how they get those great curved wall sections and shapes. It takes a crew to use a gunite pump but once the basics are learned with enough helpers you can use one as well.

Concrete when suspended in air needs some type of reinforcing to help support the weight of the concrete. If you are attempting to do suspended stairs for example, get an engineer to design the rebar layouts for you. Concrete is very heavy and can cause serous injury or worse if a collapse occurs.

Try forming some small architectural elements in your garden and pour them using a bagged redi-mix. Steps, small walls, a pool or pond and then move on to the larger features. You will be amazed at how easy it is to make these great looking features.

Caring For Your Teak Cutting Board

When it comes to caring for teak cutting boards, a few simple steps can extend the life of your board exponentially. Teak’s naturally occurring oils help the wood resist moisture, rot, fungi, and warping, but with a little extra love you can keep your beautiful teak cutting boards looking great indefinitely.

First and foremost, the most important way to add additional protection to your plantation teak cutting board is to season the surface with a liberal dose of the proper oil. This oil fills in the wood’s tiny pores and creates a barrier that keeps food particles and liquids from penetrating into deep into the grain.

Materials

Most teak experts recommend a USP grade mineral oil. This food-grade oil will protect your cutting surface and won’t spoil. Other suitable treatments include coconut oil, almond oil, walnut oil, or beeswax. Coconut, almond and walnut oils are all highly resistant to rancidity. More common cooking oils like olive or vegetable oil are not recommended for cutting surfaces due to their tendency to spoil — and who wants to cut their veggies on rancid oil?

Seasoning

To season your board, warm the oil and apply it with a soft cloth, following the direction of the wood grain. Don’t worry about applying too much oil — there is no such thing as “too much.” For the initial treatment, you’ll need to apply 4 or 5 coats, letting each coat dry for a minimum of 4 hours before applying the next.

Should you choose to go with beeswax as a sealant, simply apply the beeswax (on top of your mineral oil, ideally) then buff it off with a soft cloth. Alternatively, you can add 1/2tsp of beeswax to 1 cup of mineral oil, heat this in the microwave for 45 seconds, and then simply apply it as if it were an oil.

Following the initial seasoning, you’ll want to reapply a coat of oil every two weeks to keep your board in tip-top condition.

Cleaning

DOs: When it comes time to clean your board, rinse it with soap and warm water, drying it thoroughly afterwards.

To disinfect your plantation teak, wipe it down with undiluted white vinegar after each use. Vinegar is effective against E. coli, Salmonella, and Staphylococcus.

If you want to go a step further, you can wipe your board down with a 3% hydrogen peroxide solution, directly after wiping down the board with vinegar.

DON’T: When washing your board, don’t submerge the board underwater, for it’s porous surface can absorb water and cause cracking.

Harsh detergents are a big no-no, as are dishwashers and other places that are prone to extreme humidity or dryness.

Tips and Tricks

  • To remove any odors left by fish, garlic, etc., try rubbing the surface with baking soda or a cut lemon, then wiping it down or rinsing.
  • Flip your cutting board over from time to time (even though you may have a favorite side); using both sides will even the wear and prolong your board’s life.

Brighten Up Your Holiday Meal With Christmas China

If you are hosting a big Christmas dinner this year then why not brighten up the whole affair by buying some decorative Christmas china? Whether the dinner is for friends or family they are sure to be impressed and enjoy the meal a whole lot more when their plates are bundles of Christmas cheer.

The holidays are a special event and you don’t want to set the table using the same dishes you use all year long. You want to make everything about your holiday decorations add that sparkle, that ‘something extra’ that’s found in the magic of Christmas. Plain dishes and even run of the mill Christmas dishes won’t suffice. You need Christmas china to complete the ambiance.

The best thing about buying China for your Christmas dinnerware is that you don’t have to settle for just one pattern if you see more than one that you like. You can get multiple settings and simply rotate their use during the holidays.

Major companies are always creating designs for Christmas as well as keeping in stock their traditional Christmas designs. Of course, if you don’t like designs on your Christmas dinnerware, you can still have elegance by choosing one of the many patterns that feature a simple gold or silver circle around the dinnerware.

There are a few people who will purchase gorgeous sets of Christmas china and then unfortunately won’t use it. They keep it put up out of reach and often out of sight ‘in case’ something happens to it.

There’s no beauty in not using things that bring us pleasure. Life is not meant to be lived packed away in a box or in a cabinet. You’ll rob yourself of many priceless memories by not using the best you have in life.

Go ahead and celebrate the holidays with special Christmas china. You’re worth it and so are your friends and family. No matter what holiday dinnerware you pick out, it’ll help to make your holiday one to remember.

Linux Command Tutorials – Opening a Linux Terminal – Console to Run Linux Commands – Tutorial Help

To run Linux commands, you need to get to the Linux command line prompt.

To get the Linux command line prompt from a Linux desktop, you open a terminal emulation window.

Linux Tips: You can also go to a virtual terminal and run Linux commands. But when you are a new Linux user, a terminal emulation window is easier to work with.

Linux Terminal Emulation Windows

When you open a terminal emulation window, you get a "window" on the desktop. A terminal emulation window can be moved around on the desktop and resized to be made larger or smaller. And you can even have multiple terminal emulation windows open at the same time!

This window shows the Linux command line prompt, at which you can run Linux commands (by typing in commands and pressing Enter). After running a Linux command, this window also shows the output of the command (very important).

Linux Tips: Linux commands are the best way to do Linux system administration. Running Linux commands gives you lots of practical, hands-on Linux training.

Methods of Opening a Linux Terminal Emulation Window (aka Terminal or Console)

There are over 130 Linux distributions (versions)!

The method of opening a terminal emulation window on your Linux desktop is dependent on the Linux distribution (version) you are using and the Linux desktop you are using. Two popular Linux desktops are the GNOME desktop and the KDE desktop.

To open a terminal emulation window, boot your Linux system to a desktop and then:

  • Look for an icon on the desktop that looks like a computer screen and click on it
  • Right-click on the desktop and look for a menu item with the words "Linux terminal", "Linux console", or similar
  • Search the menus on the desktop for the words "Linux terminal", "Linux console", or similar, and select the menu item

Linux Concepts and Terms:

A terminal emulation window is also referred to as a "Linux terminal" or "Linux console".

Linux commands are sometimes referred to as "Linux terminal commands" and "Linux console commands".

The Linux command line prompt is sometimes referred to as the CLI for "command line interface".

Once you have a terminal emulation window open, you will see a Linux command line prompt, which looks similar to this] $ and the prompt may look different on your system.

For example, the prompt may look like this] # or something else similar.

Linux Tips: In our Linux command examples, we are using] $ to represent the prompt. You do not type in the prompt, you type in the command at the right of the prompt and then press the Enter key to run the command.

Examples of Opening a Terminal Emulation Window in Several Popular Linux Distributions

Ubuntu Linux / Red Hat Linux / Fedora Linux with the GNOME desktop:

Select the Applications Menu; Select Accessories; Select Terminal.

Debian Linux with the GNOME desktop: right-click on the desktop and select Terminal.

SUSE Linux with the KDE desktop: click on the "Konsole" icon on the desktop (that looks like a computer screen).

What would it be like if you could watch a clearly narrated Linux video tutorial showing several methods of opening a Linux "terminal" / "console" and working at the Linux command line, in some Linux distributions.

To actually see the steps being done and have them clearly described to you in a very pleasant and sometimes even humorous manner.

How useful would it be if you could pause the Linux video and then easily try these methods yourself – well, now you can!

A Guide To Scrapbooking Tools For Beginners

If you are new to scrapbooking and don’t know what tools you need to get started, look no further. Here is a guide to what things you will need to start off with your scrapbooking hobby.

A paper trimmer should be one of the first tools you purchase. This nifty gadget will save you loads of time, as you wont need to cut everything out by hand. There are many different types and makes of paper trimmers, and it is important that you find one to suit your needs. There are smaller paper trimmers that you can buy to start off with and these are far cheaper than the bigger ones and are great for people that are just starting off with scrapbooking. Make sure that your trimmer has measured out markings to make it easier for you to cut and measure at the same time.

Decent sharp scissors are the next tool you will need for your kit. You should get a small pair with a fine tip for intricate cutting jobs. Another bigger pair will suit all the other types of cutting you will need to do that you can’t use your trimmer for. A craft knife is also a very handy tool to have as you can use it to pierce holes for your brads or cut out windows with ease.

A cutting mat is a must for any newcomer to scrapbooking. You will need this to protect your table top from sharp cutting blades and glue. Although you can buy these in any size, A3 or A4 is fine to start off with. Try and buy a mat that shows measurements, which will help you to cut sizes correctly. Try to buy it in a bold color, then you will be able to see the markings through thin paper.

The other essential items that you will need to buy as a new scrapbook beginner are acid free adhesives. There are a few different varieties that will come In handy when you get started.

1. Mounting squares and Double Sided Tape are perfect for attaching flat items to your layouts like paper and photographs.

2. Foam squares can be used to give your page elements some dimension. Foam core used with double sided tape also achieves the same effect.

3. Pop dots are another option to use instead of foam squares, but the choice is up to you.

4. Good quality glue is also handy for sticking down all those bulky embellishments. It is safer to just get some craft glue.

So as you can see, you only need a few items in your kit and you can go ahead and scrapbook to your hearts content.

A Guide to Electric Scooter Parts

When buying electric scooter parts, make sure they're compatible with your scooter. Many customers make a mistake of buying the wrong parts for their scooters.

Popular electric scooter parts are:

– Accessories

– Batteries

– Chains

– Chargers

– Controllers

– Throttles

Accessories

There are different kinds of accessories available. A popular choice for a scooter's bag is a large multi-compartment bag than can be placed onto the rear cargo rack. A good bag would have made a cloth that is high resistant to abrasions, tears and scuffs. Twin Velcro straps should hold the bag securely onto the seat rail or post.

You can also choose a basket to be placed in front. Good baskets would be those that fold out of the way when they're no longer in use. Steel construction is the best with thick enamel finish.

You should have a safety warning bell for your scooter. Some bells are made with compasses too. These bells fit all electric scooter and bicycle handlebars. Bells that have a pleasant sound and are audible are advise.

A bike motor kit includes self-contained removable power unit, a mounting rack and mounting hardware. You can also buy this kit in local motorcycle stores.

A good headline would have side light marks that provide additional lighting in the right and left side of the scooter. This is for visibility during nighttime.

Your helmet should cover the back of your head to protect it from backward falls. It should have an air-gulping front, top and back holes. There should be a thick shock absorbent lining inside the helmet that can be easily removed and replaced for cleaning purposes. Most importantly, helmets should be certified by the ASTM F1447 helmet standards or any country's helmet standards.

Even though some states do not require scooter drivers to wear helmets, it is still recommended to wear a helmet no matter how short the distance is.

Additional mirrors are also available as extra electric scooter parts. You can choose a round shaped mirror that is made of chrome plated steel, glass and rubber construction. There should be a safety reflector at the back of the mirror.

Batteries

There is a different range of batteries available for electric scooters. If you know the voltage, dimensions or amp hours, you will be able to choose what battery should you require.

Chains

The # 25 chain is the most commonly used for electric scooters. This chain has a "spacing between each chain link and is" wide.

Chain Breakers

Chain breakers do not break the chain despite what they're called. Their function is to remove the pins that hold the chain links together. Master links are used to connect chains together in a continuous solid loop.

Chargers

Intellect Charger – An "Intellect Charger" works with electric scooters and bikes that have a 12 Volt battery or two 6 Volt batteries.

Controllers

There are speed controllers for Chinese-made electric scooters. This part helps control the speed of your scooter from full stop to full forward.

Throttles

The Hall Effect Throttle is the most common type that is used on electric scooters. They work on Chinese-made electric scooters and are sometimes called accelerators, twist bar, speed bar, turn throttle, speed control or derailleur.

Another type of throttle is the on / off throttle. This is used for medium size electric scooters.

5k Ohm Throttles are for high-end and older model electric scooters.

Lighting Consultant

Things to Consider When Hiring a Lighting Consultant

There's a lot to be said for experience. Sure, you could replace a lamp in your house but what if you needed a new lighting point or some new sockets? If you've never done this before (although I would ask you not too), it's probably fair to say that something might go wrong and most people hire an electrician.

The same is true for lighting consultants. With years and decades of experience in lighting design, luminaires, lamp and ballast configuration, lighting consultants bring out the best in your environment with the flick of a switch.

Here are some tips to consider when hiring a specialist designer:

Do not hesitate to ask for quotes

Credentials: Are they certified to recognized industry standards and to what level (get proof)?

Design approach: Are they knowledgeable? How many years' experience?

Project familiarity: Do they know the full project scope, and what it will require? For example, an art gallery's lighting is different from a shopping center.

Previous projects: what else has the design team done? Have others been pleased?

What Does a Lighting Consultant Do?

This question has been asked many times. Essentially, a consultant will be qualified enough to address all of the aspects of quality lighting design and specification. This includes safety & security, mood lighting, comfort, functionality, energy efficiency, client budget considerations, verification of fixture, design prediction, and fixture maintainability. These qualifications are achieved through both education and lighting industry experience. Lighting Consultants are able to provide a specialized lighting design service.

Using Bamboo To Decorate A Garden

Bamboo is a versatile material that can be used to give any backyard a distinct appearance. The canes are very strong and resist damage from age and weather better than many other natural materials. There are several different types of bamboo poles that are available. Some are very thin and flexible, while others are very thick and can be used to create exceptionally strong structures in the yard. There are also a number of different species that have slightly different properties and colors.

Plant Stakes

There are a wide range of uses for bamboo poles in a garden. They make sturdy reusable plant stakes when they are inserted into the ground. The natural segmented texture of the surface allows plant ties or twine to rest securely at different points along the length of the pole. Thicker pieces of bamboo can be used as edging in the garden to distinguish walkways from planted areas. When very long poles are inserted into the ground, the canes can make an effective weed barrier that will stop deep roots from crossing into a planted area or a raised bed.

Trellises

Tall poles can be bound together at one end in groups of three or four to create a tall trellis that is good for climbing plants. The canes can be arranged vertically and horizontally to create a grid trellis that can be attached directly to a wall. A combination of different reeds can be tied together to form archways and other decorative structures that can highlight plants that have been trained to grow around the reeds. Long and thin rods are regularly bent and then placed into the ground to form the skeleton for a cold frame or to support garden cloth.

Paths

A garden can benefit from bamboo rugs as well. The rugs are a good way to mark pathways between plantings. They can be propped up to create shade for a particular area in the summer. Depending on the construction of the bamboo rugs, they can also be used as a weed mat to help keep the ground clear. When the mats are left in the soil they will provide years of use. After they have served their purpose, the mats will slowly decompose and become part of the soil.

Bamboo tends to blend into a garden very well. Unlike some brightly painted metal garden fixtures, these sticks present a natural appearance that is non-intrusive. The poles can also be used as supports for flags, cloth and networks of twine for light climbing plants. A garden that integrates bamboo not only has a unique aesthetic appearance, but is also more environmentally friendly than a garden that uses less renewable materials.

Your Husband Feels Unloved – Tips to Revitalize Your Marriage

When your husband feels unloved it can leave you with an unending sense of guilt and regret. Marriage is a partnership and that means that both people have to put in the time and the effort to make the relationship work. If your husband doesn’t feel that you care for him anymore it’s obvious that those feelings are coming from a very real place. He’s feeling neglected and his needs are being pushed aside.

Sometimes this occurs when the woman has actually fallen out of love with her husband. The deep emotional connection that was once there has disappeared over time and she’s left feeling more like she’s living with a roommate than the man she adores. If you feel that’s exactly what’s occurred in your marriage, but it’s not what you want, you need to take steps to rectify it. If you love your husband but you’re no longer in love with him, you can change that.

The first step you should be taking if your husband feels unloved is to determine what you’re doing to send him that message. If you’ve withdrawn to a point where you two sleep in separate rooms and intimacy is no longer part of the dynamic of the marriage, that has to change. A woman can actually feel an emotional void in her relationship if intimacy is non-existent. Start rekindling it in small ways. Hold your husband’s hand when you two are out or massage his shoulders when he’s sitting and watching television. Rekindling the physical connection will help you bridge the emotional gap that is there as well.

If you’ve stopped showing any real interest in his life, change that attitude today. He wants to feel that you’re interested in him as not only a partner, but a man. Ask him about his day and encourage him to talk about what he’s feeling and thinking.

Start focusing more on what you adore about your husband as opposed to those habits that you find distasteful. You fell in love with the man at one time, to the point of wanting to be his wife. You need to rediscover those same feelings and by concentrating on his best qualities you can do that.

If your husband feels unloved let him know each and every day how much you appreciate the things he does for you and the children. Compliment him and make him feel valued. This will help you to feel closer to him again. When you take the time to look at your husband through fresh eyes, you’ll be reminded of why you married him in the first place.

Building A Pair Of Heavy Duty Saw Horses

Start out by measuring and cutting all your stock according to the cutting list and set it aside. Take the legs and mark out the tapers. The taper starts 20 "up from the bottom. The leg tapers to 3-1 / 2" at the bottom. Repeat for all the legs and cut out.

The legs join the main stretchers at 75 °. This cut is best made with a circular saw. Mark your lines, clamp the stock on edge and cut. Flip the stock over to the other edge and make the through cut.

Time for some assembly. On the main stretcher mark a line 1-1 / 2 "from each end. This is the outer face of the leg. Now make a second mark in from one edge 1". This is the top of the leg. Do this for each leg on both stretchers.

Apply some glue to the angled side of the leg and position on the marks you just made on the stretcher. Secure with 4 – 2 "screws. Repeat for all the legs.

Position the 3/8 "plywood braces on the outside face of the legs butting into the bottom face of the main stretcher. Scribe the angle onto the braces with your pencil and cut. Braces with 6 screws, three into each leg.

Now draw 2 lines down the length of each top step, offset 3/4 "from center. Countersink 5 holes, 3/4" deep in each step. Alternate the holes on each side of center. Position the top onto the stretcher flush with the ends. Secure with screws only.

Finally secure the lower step midway up the leg using screws & adhesive.

That's all there is to it. These saw horses will easily take the load of a lift of plywood or studs. Plus the make a great scaffold. Space about 8 'apart and secure a 2 x 10 between them.

How Big Is Your Space Bubble

Did you know that you have a “space bubble” all around you? And did you know that other people have a “space bubble” too?

When people are making conversation with someone else, they generally like to have a little bubble of space all around them. This little bubble of space extends one or two or even three feet all around our bodies. We tend to view this as our personal space, even if we never really think about it.

If we invade too close into someone else’s personal space before they are ready to be close to us, they will feel very uncomfortable. And if someone gets too physically close to us during a conversation, we can also feel uncomfortable with them.

Some people misjudge how close they should sit or stand when they are talking to strangers or acquaintances, and they may end up making a poor impression on others either because they get too close, or stay too far away. If someone you don’t know very well starts to move too close to you or touches you, you may find yourself taking a step back.

If you don’t know the space bubble rules, you might make another person feel uncomfortable by standing too close, or by touching them when they don’t want to be touched by you.

We like to keep our space bubble as a personal space for ourselves, and for those who are closest to us. We like it when our loved ones, our family, our children, our loved ones get physically close to us. However, if a total stranger insists on getting into our personal space and stand just inches away, we may feel alarmed and uncomfortable.

About the only time we willingly allow a stranger into our personal space is when we need medical treatment, or when we can’t prevent it, such as when we are on a crowded bus or elevator. We also let people get very close to us when we feel a very strong attraction to them.

The size of space bubble we like to have around us, and the amount of touching we will permit, can be complicated.

There are no cut and dried rules. People from different family backgrounds and different cultures often have different preferences for how big their space bubble will be.

People who come from a British background are likely to be more formal and reserved with strangers and acquaintances than North Americans would be. If you address an English person by his first name without permission, he may feel that you are being too familiar with him. English people will feel usually feel uncomfortable if you stand close to them while speaking, and will back away to a distance that suits them better.

People from a British background often want to stand quite far away from their conversation partners when making small talk, and are not likely to engage in a lot of public touching with people they don’t know.

On the other hand, people from Central and South American countries will often stand extremely close to you while speaking, and may feel offended if you back away. Men from these countries feel comfortable hugging each other in public, whereas most men from a British or North American background will almost never do so.

People from China and Japan are usually much more reserved, and will stand considerably farther away from the other person with whom they are having a conversation.

The size of the space bubble we try to create around us will also change according to circumstances.

When we are on a subway during rush hour we will tolerate strangers pressing up against us in a way that we would not accept from someone at a business meeting.

When we first meet someone new, we are not likely to stand in each other’s zone of private space unless we are both feeling a strong sexual attraction. When people are drunk they will tolerate a lot of physical closeness with strangers that they might not accept when they are sober.

When you are talking with people, respect the space boundary that your conversation partners want to have around them.

If you find that other people keep moving further back when you stand close to them, it does not necessarily mean they don’t like you. It might mean that you are invading territory they consider their personal space.

If you notice this happening, they will probably appreciate having a bit more space. Don’t move physically closer to them until you know them better and they seem more willing to get close to you.

When people warm up to you and like you a lot, they will often signal this by smiling at you a lot, getting closer to you, and touching you. If they don’t feel that this is the right time or place for being close, they will pull back a bit.

You can subtly participate in negotiating the ideal distance by slightly approaching and backing away until you both appear to be comfortable. Thus you will create a better impression on them.

Tinnitus and Dehydration

Tinnitus is commonly called ‘ringing in the ears’ but some people have really loud noises (or roaring, hissing, buzzing, or tinkling) in their ears that can actually jam out outside noises and conversations. It can be caused by loud noises or music, ototoxic drugs, wax buildup in the ear, allergies, ear or sinus infection, congestion, jaw or bite misalignment (TMJ disorder),cardiovascular disease, Meniere’s disease, a tumor on the auditory nerve, otosclerosis, underactive thyroid, head or neck trauma and believe it or not, dehydration.

The body is 70 percent water and the delicate bones and accompanying tissues in the ear are very sensitive, even to dehydration. Once the tissues dry out, there is not the flexibility in the small joints in the tiny bones that “hear”. The imbalance in the fluids can make the tiny hairs in the cochlea of the inner ear become damaged. Damage can also come from loud noises such as lawn mower and rock concerts. Even MP3 players turned up too loud can cause damage. The damage can become permanent if too little healthy water is ingested over time or if you are habitually in a noisy environment. Chronic dehydration can make inner ear function worse, so make sure that you drink lots of healthy water, not coffee, fruit juice, carbonated beverages or bottled water.

If you find you have tinnitus after a loud noise event, start drinking more water and avoid other loud noises for a few days. You don’t want the ringing to become permanent. If you find that the ear noises persist, avoid alcohol, recreational drugs, caffeine, aspirin and nicotine as they can make the noises worse. Although aspirin and certain antibiotics can make tinnitus worse, your doctor can help you make substitutions or regulate the dosage so you are more comfortable.

If you run or do sports you will want to drink plenty of healthy water. Overheating can aggravate your tinnitus just as much as dehydration.

In recent years, researchers have used MRI imaging to detect brain activity with people who suffer from tinnitus. They have found hyperactivity in the auditory cortex and in certain parts of the limbic brain, not normally found in people without ear noises. The limbic brain governs stress responses such as anxiety and emotions. Researchers say that it is not that tinnitus is induced by stress, but that the part of the brain that produces fearful emotions is hyperactive in tinnitus sufferers.

For a long time, the questions medical professionals and scientists had was where the “ringing” was located. They know people could “hear” the noise but they wondered if it was in the ears or the brain. It was postulated that the noise emerged as the sound went from the ear to the central nervous system to the brain. When the hearing was assaulted by prolonged loud noise, even for a short time and there was trauma, the brain would try to compensate by switching up its own amplifier. But just like a short wave radio you hear more sound in addition to hearing more hiss. But now in concert with the MRI imaging, scientist are beginning to unravel the mysteries of tinnitus.

In Germany and Belgium, research is showing some promise with a treatment protocol called Magnetic Transcranial Stimulation with some sufferers. This treatment involves placing a magnetic plate just above the ear and holding it where the auditory cortex is. When electric current is pulsed through the plates, it is postulated that faulty brain signals are disrupted and even possibly being reset. The painless 5 to 30 minutes sessions do not require anaesthetic but do require expensive equipment only found in major neurology centers.

Within the last two years, some exciting developments have been emerging from the pharmaceutical industry. A very dangerous procedure was tried, injecting lidocaine, an anaesthetic into the blood stream of a tinnitus sufferer. There was a complete absence of symptoms for five minutes. This is not a recommended treatment, but what it told researchers is that somewhere in the brain, there is an off-switch. Researchers are now actively looking for it.

In my clinic, I have a number of clients who have lost their tinnitus from drinking alkaline, ionized water. The level of their chronic dehydration was the benchmark for how long it took to disappear. This healthy water gently neutralized the acidic condition that partners with dehydration to create all kinds of symptoms in the body, including ear noises. Try my 7 day water challenge. It’s free and you’ll feel better for it.

Selecting a Computer Case

Selecting the right computer case as a guide for buyers and there are far too many computer cases for sale in the market that makes the selection process take longer than it should. There are far too many decisions to make.

The process could be simplified by organizing your wants. Choose a computer case that you could stand looking at or even appreciate having. After doing so, you can check what other attributes of it you should know about.

Does it have space for USB ports on the front panel? These ports are very practical as they offer easier access for your USB flash drives. It just is not sensible to keep sticking the drive at the back as it would require you to move the PC and sort through all the cables and dust bunnies back there. Newer motherboards have USB ports for the front and back panel. Connecting your mp3 player, flash drive, printer, headset, cell phone and a lot of other stuff using USB cables would be convenient with front USB.

What motherboards would fit in the case? If you like the case so much, you only have select choices of motherboards as there is no one size fits all kind of casing. You could be sacrificing a lot if you choose the wrong computer case. A removable back plate feature is recommended for smaller computer cases as this would give you more elbow room to install the motherboard.

What is the form factor of your motherboard? There are many form factors specific to different motherboards such as Micro, Full and Extended ATX. The computer case should indicate which form it can house. If you can not find this information, you better drop the model off your list as you can not afford any guesswork on this one. The size of the computer case should match the size of your motherboard.

How big is the power supply you will be using? The power supplies in computer cases may be too small and inadequate for your application. The problem with small power supplies is that it may not be sufficient to run your system smoothly. You will notice your computer suddenly rebooting. You must select a power supply that could match the needs of your system or it just would not run right and may damage your hardware.

How many drives of what size will you be installing? Get a computer case that can fit in all of these devices. You will need one that has as many external bays as you require and can fit in all the hard drives and CD or DVD-ROM drives. Would you still use floppy disks? You will not need a case that has a bay for this if you will not be using floppies.

Will the size of the computer case fit in the spot where you will place it? If you have specific space requirements, make sure you get the dimensions of the case before you get it. Both the height and the depth are very important.

Is there enough cooling space? If your computer will be placed in a closed space like a cabinet, you have to consider if it has sufficient cooling. You may need additional cooling for certain applications so select the case that could accommodate such additions.

Keyword Selection – The Foundation of Your Website

The first step in establishing a presence on the web is to make a keyword list. You want to get all the best keywords on the first page without problems.

To configure the most effective keyword list possible for your website you will need to be careful and exhaustive about what you wish to offer and what you will not offer. Whether you sell products / services or provide information you must have a complete inventory of all of it.

Once you have an inventory of everything in your website you will use this list to brainstorm a list of "possible" keywords and keyword phrases.

If your website will be used for a national concern such that location is not important then location should not be part of your keywords. If, however your offers are for one city or region then that city or region will be part of your "possible" keywords.

The types of products / services / information you offer should be broken down into categories – and each word word modifier of those categories should be a "possible" keyword. If you sell fast-food you should list every item on your menu, every characteristic that you want each item to be known for (hot, cold, icy, jumbo, special sauce, etc.), how it will be served (quickly, Proudly, not before its time) Whether your staff is knowledgeable (experts, degrees, award-winners), what side dishes or condiments are available, do you have carry-out or delivery, lighted and convenient parking, accept returns, special packaging, Etc.

Once the "possible keyword" list is completed it should be fed one word at a time through the keyword tools at Google, Yahoo, etc. Every time you plug in a keyword you will get the number of searches conducted for that term over a given period of time. The keyword tools will also suggest keywords from the tool's database that are similar to the "possible keyword" you entered.

Now you should go through the keyword tool's returned list and copy any and all similar terms along with the search value of each. Once you have completed all the lists of returns for each "possible keyword" you must go through the list one term at a time. Delete any keywords that do not have to do with your website. You want to identify as many keywords as possible.

Now you have a long keyword list. This list must now be narrowed down. You should narrow the list by weighing the potential gain for each keyword relative to competing websites. You can use these 3
Criteria to choose the keywords you will keep.

1) The number of searches per each particular keyword (you have these from the keyword tools)

2) The amount of competition for each keyword (search on the big three search engines to find your competition for each keyword).

3) Will a keyword lead to conversions (this is your decision)

With good keyword selection, you have laid the foundation for success in your webpage. This success means more traffic, better SEO, higher rank, more popularity, and satisfied visitors.
