Poor Judgment Following a Brain Injury

Poor judgment is one of the results of inadequate cognitive functioning following an injury to the frontal lobe. This deficit can involve many aspects of a person’s life, including the situations mentioned below:

– When handling a motor vehicle of any kind, someone exhibiting poor judgment may place themselves, and others, in a dangerous situation because of their cognitive deficits. Those with frontal lobe injuries may not drive defensively or anticipate the actions of other drivers. They may tailgate, and possibly not realize the importance of signaling in an appropriate time to be able to safely make turns, particularly when turning left. Other potential problems could be not coming to a complete stop at stop signs, weaving in and out of traffic, or going faster than the posted speed limits. Some may drive aggressively and as a result become rude as well as dangerous drivers. They may also decide that it is not necessary to wear appropriate seat belts or helmets thereby placing themselves at additional risk.

– Poor judgment may also involve the excessive use of alcohol or non-prescription drugs. While using these substances they may become impulsive, place themselves and others at risk, act before thinking, perceive and interpret their surroundings in a different way than reality indicates, and not understand the possible consequences of their actions.

– Other examples of this deficit may be indicated by improper behaviour which may include inappropriate touching or sexual innuendoes. Some survivors may have difficulty understanding cause and effect and may have problems with their reasoning skills. And many will have problems in learning from their past mistakes.

– Social situations may also be difficult for some brain injury survivors. Some may possibly behave in an inappropriate manner by being rude, disrespectful of another’s personal space, make inappropriate comments, or dominate a conversation. They may also have other poor social skills and problems with communication.

There are other ways where poor judgment may become a problem following a brain injury but the ones listed above are quite often the main concerns.

When Buying Land, What Can You Learn From Experience?

When buying land it is terribly important to learn from others who have "been there." It's interesting that when I was learning my way that I tried to find information that would give me practical techniques for buying land for sale and vacant land, but none existed. Quite a bit of the things that caused me problems were as a result of my inexperience and getting involved in things that I knew nothing about.

Or of not asking for direction in my decisions. Believe me, now I ask God for help with my decisions and things work much better.

The reason that I am inclined to write about experience with land is because of what happened some time ago which brings home the importance of experience, which is why I offer personal email assistance with my materials.

I know this is hard to believe but recently I showed a lady how she could have made over $ 200,000 in less than 6 months on one tract of land, had she known alternative techniques.

Marti is a very experienced real estate lady but she has no experience with land. One day she called me and asked if I would meet her at a tract of land that she had located near her country home and give her my opinion. I said, 'sure' and we discussed the land and then met at the acreage.

The tract is 57 areas and has frontage on two roads. One of the roads is a paved county road and the other is an easement on a dirt road.

Marty was talking about dividing the tract and improving the dirt road and expanding it. Then she wanted to put some mobile homes for rent on the dirt road. Then selling the part of the tract that had frontage on the paved road.

But she was not sure if it was a good piece of land and whether her plan was a good one or not. She was basically wanting an opinion on how she should manage the tract for the best financial result for herself.

I did not feel comfortable from the start with her thoughts on improving a dirt road and bringing in mobile homes. She had told me that the dirt road was "ok" but when we got there I could not believe my eyes. I have seen dirt roads before and have built several, but that was one of the worse I had ever seen.

First of all, there was only a 20 'easement and I do not like working with easements and especially only 20' wide. I certainly feel that 20 'is too narrow. (I prefer 40 'to 60' easements.) Plus the small dirt road was in very bad need of grading and the worse part was a terrible culvert situation at a small stream crossing.

The culvert was too short and made a very narrow crossing and the soil material around it was red clay. Of course red clay becomes very slippery when it gets wet, so there needs to be sandy type material or gravel, in order to have an all weather road.

So the first thing I did was to throw cold water on her idea of improving a dirt road and bringing in mobile homes and we will continue this discussion in the next article.

What to Consider When Choosing Landscape Stone

Aside from aesthetics, when choosing a landscaping stone, you also need to consider the durability and application of the stone itself. Natural landscape stone is available in many styles, colors, and cuts. Additionally, natural stone is not limited to river rock, gravel, or limestone anymore – it now includes sandstone, flagstone, marble and even manufactured stone.

When choosing a landscape stone, the fist things to consider should be the application of the stone. Where will it go? How much will you need? What elements will the landscape stone be exposed to? How much traffic will it see? After you have determined your budget and what abuse the stone will need to endure, then it is time to think about color, texture, and design. First, consider the architectural design of the home. Next, consider the color of the home and the landscape design that the stone will need to enhance. Finally, use your personal style to determine the right stone for you.

The Many Uses of Landscaping Stone

Stone lends itself to many practical and architectural uses. Additionally, it lends an elegance and sophistication along with old world or modern feel to any home or garden design. When it comes to landscaping, stone can be used to frame a pond, façade a house front, façade an outdoor fireplace, line walkways and patios, façade stone columns, edge a garden bed, face retaining walls, and create outdoor living spaces or rooms. With a little creativity and thought, many home owners can come up with many more uses for landscaping stone.

If you are planning on designing a new outdoor space, creating curb appeal on a new home, or perhaps you are trying to update and embellish an existing front or back yard or living space, then natural landscaping stone can provide you with long lasting and durable design with a touch of class. There are many types of stones to choose from that are available in a wide variety of colors, textures, shapes, and purposes that can suit any outdoor need.

Choosing Landscape Stones

The most common types of stone applications are usually skirting facades on the fronts of homes or stepping stone walkways. With so many stone applications to choose from, why limit yourself to just stepping stones and facades? A carefully placed boulder in a garden or landscape can add interest, while carefully selected stones can be utilized to create outdoor rooms and living spaces.

1. Retaining walls can be a significant addition to any garden. While they do have their practical purposes such as garden beds or preventing soil erosion, they also add interest to a garden or landscape and appeal to most home fronts. They can also be used around ponds or to elevate patios and outdoor rooms. Popular stones used for this include Chilton, Lannon, Fond du Lac, Waukesha, Kodiak, and Bay De Noc.

2. Fireplaces make any outdoor space warm and inviting. They can be a wonderful backdrop for dinner parties, BBQ’s, or romantic evenings with the family. Thin stone veneer made from natural stone comes in a wide variety of styles and colors and can be applied to the fireplace stone exterior to add that touch of class and elegance.

3. Patios and outdoor rooms can be transformed into warm and inviting living spaces. Carefully selected flagstone varieties such as Chilton, Lannon, Fond du Lac, Waukesha, Kodiak, and Bay De Noc can provide a shoe free zone to simply relax for meal times, play time, or simply to enjoy the paper and your morning coffee.

4. Stone walkways are classic. While gravel may be a selected choice for some home owners, real stone can give the landscape and inviting touch. Easy maintenance and gorgeous colors provide a variety of looks for even the most discriminating tastes.

5. Garden borders can be given a high end upgrade for an inexpensive price. Most stones that are used for walkways and patios can also be used to edge gardens and walkways beautifully.

Selecting Your natural Stones

Landscaping stone is available as flagstone, boulders, marble, natural stone, pebbles, granite, limestone, cobbles, sandstone, outcropping stone, retaining wall stone, steps, treads, coping, thermal finish cut stone, tumbled stone, fieldstone boulders, bluestone, holey boulders, stone signs, and other stepping stones. Stone comes in a wide variety of shapes from natural to precut. Colors can be special ordered to match your home exactly.

Once you have evaluated the particular space, design of your home and garden, and usage of the stone, then it is relatively easy to select the right stones for the job at hand.

Can Christians Be Soldiers?

Memorial Day in the United States is a time for remembering the men and women who died defending America’s interests.  For the most part, America’s chief interest in the world has been freedom.  But in the end, the men and women of the American military to do not fight for freedom, for democracy, for right or for truth.  They fight, are wounded, and die to defend the interests of the United States of America.  Of course we want to believe that the interests of the United States are right and true; that we are fighting to defend democracy and freedom.  But those are vague concepts and values.  Nations and states have armed forces; ideas and values have, at best, militias or “freedom fighters” or, at worse, “insurgents” and “terrorists” depending on whether we agree with the values or ideologies being promoted or not.

My point is this; it is a dangerous thing to confuse fighting for or dying because of a deeply held belief, and fighting for and defending a country.  The teachings of Christianity are irreparably harmed when we conflate the two.  For that very reason the subject of whether or not Christians can serve as soldiers has always been a hot topic.

The early church sidestepped the whole issue by listing “soldiering” as a vocation forbidden to Christians (along with teaching and acting) except in special circumstances, and even then with heavy caveats.  This was done in obedience to Jesus’ command to “turn the other cheek” and to “love your enemies.”  By the time of Martin Luther in the 1500s, however, church and state in western Europe were one and the same.  An enemy of the state was an enemy of the church, and vice-versa, and considered fair target for military action.

Luther attacked the issue by applying the “prime directive” of Scripture; that the Gospel of Jesus Christ and the natural law of God are two distinct though inseparable teachings of Scripture.  Humanity is saved from eternal damnation by preaching, through the ministry of the church.  Humanity is saved from itself in this world by governments, through whom God works to keep evil in check.  The church wages war against sin, death and the devil by preaching Jesus Christ crucified for the world, praying for its enemies, and demonstrating forgiveness.  The government takes up arms against criminals and its enemies to subdue and destroy them.  God even uses other governments to rise up against and destroy those which have become corrupt.

So: can a Christian be a soldier?  For Luther the answer was that a Christian – as a citizen – can work for and defend the state.  Not as a Christian, but as a citizen.  Not in obedience to the Gospel of Jesus Christ, but rather in obedience to the law of God written on all people’s hearts.  Not in order to promote and defend “Christian values,” but rather to promote and defend the rule of law which God works in all peoples regardless of religion.

Which is why as a Lutheran I believe it is essential to distinguish between service to God as a Christian, and service to country in the military.  Of course one can do both.  But they should never be mixed up.  Otherwise, we’re back in the 1500s – executing heretics.  Or worse, we become naive pacifists, who believe God deals with all evil nations and people with hugs and kisses.

May God – the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit – bless and preserve the freedom to worship we enjoy in the United States of America.

When A Screw Just Will not Budge

Stuck nuts and screws, and other fixing devices, can often present problems – and of course, it is always the most difficult nut to get at that is the problem. Buy you can usually get it to move eventually, as long as you take the matter logically.

First, make sure you have the right sized tool. A spanner should really be of the same series as the nut; a screwdriver should have a head that fits the screw slot both in length and in width.

You may be able to use an over-large spanner by sticking a screwdriver blade into the gap between the spanner head and the nut. You could make a screwdriver blade fit the width, at least, of the screw slot by regrinding or filing its point.

The next step in undoing a stuck nut or screw is to try tightening it: this breaks the seal between the threads of the bolt or screw and the surrounding work piece.

Then pour penetrating oil over the components: if possible, soak it in the stuff. If you do not have penetrating oil, any light oil is worth trying. Be patient: leave the oil to do its work over several hours.

If nothing has worked, the next stage is to be more violent. Use an impact screwdriver or spanner. You hit the end of this and it jars the screw or nut, breaking the seal and turns it round at the same time. A Powertool version of an impact driver is available, and is really worth having in your tool kit. I would recommend either a Makita Impact Driver or a Panasonic Impact Driver. Both companies have recently launched a lithium model, and are both around the same price.

If you still can not, remove the screw even with the help of a power impact driver, the application of heat sometimes helps. Try playing a blowlamp flame on while jarring the screw or nut in any of the ways mentioned above. If you think this may damage the surrounding area, a less abrasive alternative is applying a soldering iron to the screw.

At this point if you still can not remove the screw the only thing left to do is to drill it. You will need a drill bit that is slightly larger than the shank of the screw. By drilling right through the screw, you should destroy it and so loosen the components. Take care when you start the drill that it is in line with the screw.

A bolt can be drilled out in the same way. However, it is often easier to try sawing through the bolt head or the nut using a hacksaw. Sawing through a nut will most times free a stuck bolt when all else has failed. If bolt is threaded into something and it is important to preserve the thread, use a drill bit slightly smaller than the shank of the bolt. The remaining pieces of the bolt should then be picked out.

As we all know removing a stuck bolt or screw is not the easiest of jobs, but hopefully I've shown you that with a little patience nothing is impossible.

Remember people: measure twice, cut once.

The Most Common Symptoms of Migraine Headaches

Migraine symptoms vary from person to person. They can vary from a sensitivity to light to feeling tired or experiencing some tension or slight discomfort over your eyes. Even blurred vision or slight nausea, or a general feeling of tiredness can be tell-tale symptoms. More serious effects can be pain in eye sockets, pain in the jaw area, even a throbbing in the head which feels as if it might burst. Some people find difficulty in speaking or stringing sentences together while others can’t even think and feel exceedingly tired and weak.

I know that not everyone who gets these side effects will suffer from migraines. However, everyone has warning signs that a migraine attack is likely to be developing. It is by recognizing these early symptoms that we can use them to our advantage.

Most people find themselves unable to work during a migraine attack. All they want to do is rest and many people find that lying down in a quiet place, somewhere where there is no noisy music or chattering of voices can help ease the pain and shorten the duration of the migraine.

As soon as we know or suspect an attack is imminent, we can take steps to lessen the effects or to enable us to cope as best we can until it is over. Sometimes a painkiller, taken during the early stages can ward off or delay the migraine long enough for us to take steps to deal with it.

Serious sufferers of migraines will need to have strategies in place like a friend or family member who can respond to a phone call. It means looking at the structure of our days and planning them so as to avoid stress where possible (or the triggers to migraines that we experience). Migraines can be very distressing and limiting to us but, knowing the symptoms and organizing backup, can mean we live as near trouble free lives as possible, without letting migraines isolate us from our everyday lives.

How To Hire Employees Before Opening A Restaurant

You know how many employees you will need by the size of your restaurant, and the hours you will be open. You need employees for many jobs and they need to be hired before the opening of the restaurant. You will need to find people who will do a good job, and take pride in their work. This will be very important to the reputation of your restaurant, and will greatly contribute to your success.

If you want good, hard working employees, you will need to offer them a good wage and health benefits. If your employees are not happy, it will show in their work. A successful restaurant business is a bit like a family, you should always treat your employees fairly and honestly.

There are many ways for you to go about hiring employees before opening a restaurant. One of them is in the classified section of your newspaper or the online classifieds. If you need special requirements from a worker, you should mention that in the ad. You should also mention type of attitude you expect from a worker- friendly, responsible, a people person, to name a few. The last thing you need is a sad sack who is not friendly with the customers. Hopefully you will be able to read what type of personality a potential hire has at the interview.

The local employment office will usually have a job service section. You can let them know you have an opening and they will add your job offer to their computer database, and post a printout on their bulletin board. There are quite a few people who register their resume with the employment office, that would love a job after you open a restaurant.

You may want to offer a job to a student. You can do so by contacting your local high schools , they may have quite a few students who would like a job working after school and on weekends. Colleges and Universities usually have bulletin boards where you are able to post job openings. Another idea is to recruit your cooks and chefs at a Culinary College.

Once you have opened a restaurant and find you need a bit more help, you can ask your best employees for a recommendation of someone to fill the position. If they are a friend of the employee, hopefully they will have the same working spirit.

Placing an ad in the window of your restaurant, that states you are taking applications for certain jobs is another way to attract potential employees. Give a time you will be available, and a phone where you can be reached. You will then be able to see a group of potential workers within a certain time frame and not be running helter skelter interviewing people to fill the jobs. Get organized.

If you are out grocery shopping, and you see an employee with great energy and an outgoing personality, tell them about the job. If you encounter a person with the qualifications you desire in any other business, you should tell them you are looking for people with the same pep and personality they have, who might be interested in a job in your restaurant. Leave them a card and ask them to pass it on to someone who might like the job.

How Much Does Wedding Lighting Design Cost?

There are only a hand-full of reputable wedding lighting companies in most states. It is important to know what really makes the difference in price. Not every company is the same, so read our tips below to find out the most common cost drivers for price.

What and How Much Equipment

In order to transform your room with lighting, your vendor has to know what you want to accomplish. There are different fixtures that are used to accomplish different results. If you are considering uplighting, expect to pay around $ 40 per fixture. Since the setup is very labor intensive, it is common for lighting designers to have minimum requirements for lighting rental. They should also be able to show you photo / video examples of what your package should look like.

If you are looking to cover a wall with pipe and drape, then expect to pay approximately $ 10 per foot. This cost also breaks down based on the desired height. What to make your centerpieces look larger than life? Having fixtures aimed onto your tables leaves a big impression for a reasonable price. You can expect to pay in the neighborhood of $ 10 per table to make your room light up. Custom image projection varies in price depending if you want a generic or custom design. Since there are other factors involved (example glass gobos), it is best to contact the lighting company to request quotes on custom image projection. It usually is between $ 75 and $ 275 per pattern.

Time Involved

This makes up the quote in 2 ways and the first cost is time of lighting rental. Many lighting designers charge a technician fee to operate the lighting during your rental. This usually averages around $ 40 per hour. Especially since the lighting design is computer controlled, they will be able to change the colors as your evening progresses. The second cost associated with time depends on the amount required for setup. If your setup is longer, then that is because your package requires more equipment. This means more money. Most companies will not charge you for setup or tear down, since this cost is already bundled into your package.

Additional Fees

If the company you hire has to travel more than 2hours, they might require hotel accommodations and travel fees. The travel fees will rely on the package you reserved for the event. Larger packages require cargo van (s) to transport the equipment. This will make the price of travel vary between $ 75- $ 200 +.

How Much does Wedding Lighting Design Cost?

Those are the basic fees that you can expect to pay for the typical lighting design package. However, this article does not cover the advanced options available to clients. These add-ons have unique prices and really depend on what you want to accomplish. Because of this, you can expect to pay anywhere from $ 1,000 – $ 3,000 for lighting design. It is important that they understand what you need, so they can make suggestions. When they give you a quote, they should have several packages for you to choose from. It should be the goal of your lighting designer to not over or under quote you. This makes it easier to work with your budget while still making your room look beautiful.

Poor Listening Skills – A Major Barrier To Effective Communication

It is not possible to do the job or a routine work with out listening. Listening skills play an important role in overall communication process and are essentially important for sales personnel who directly communicate with customers. Not only the sales personnel but many people are poor listeners in their everyday life. Listening is often confused and interchangeably used with hearing. There is a major difference between listening and hearing.

Hearing is a physical act while listening is the act of hearing while also retaining and comprehending the information. Listening is active while hearing is passive. Though everyone knows the importance of listening skills when communicating to each other but very few pay attention to their listening skill and this often becomes a major barrier to effective communication. It is revealed by several studies that adults typically listen at only 25% efficiency level and experts agree that poor listening skills are the biggest contributors to poor communication. It is not just listening but skillful listening is what is needed in this competitive world. Skillful listening generally involves ability to evaluate ideas, recognize the difference between fact and opinion, use questioning and feedback to clarify communication, recognize loaded language, and recognize common listening barriers.

Listening may fall into any of the categories mentioned below:

Active listening: Active listening is a way of listening and responding to another person that improves mutual understanding. You listen closely to content and intent. You try to block out barriers to listening. Most importantly, you are non-judgmental and empathetic.

Inactive listening: The definition of this is the old adage, “In one ear and out the other.” Inactive listening is simply being present when someone is speaking, but not absorbing what is being said. You hear the words, but your mind is wandering and no communication is taking place.

Selective listening: Selective listening is hearing what you want to hear or what you expect to hear instead of what is being said. You hear some of the message and immediately begin to formulate your reply or second guess the speaker without waiting for the speaker to finish.

Reflective Listening: This is one of the most complex types of listening. It involves actively listening, interpreting what is being said and observing how it is being said. You work to clarify what the speaker is saying and make sure there is mutual understanding.

When one is involved in the communication process he may be engaged with any of the above listening skills or may some times combination of all.

Poor listening usually occur due to lack of control over the speed at which speakers speak, not being able to get things repeated, the listener’s limited vocabulary, failure to recognize the “signals”, problems of interpretation, inability to concentrate, and even may be due to some established learning habits.

A 10 Step Formula which will help to listen better.

1) Face the speaker and keep an eye contact

2) Keep an open mind

3) Listen to ideas/concepts and not just words

4) Don’t interrupt the speaker

5) Wait for pause for questions

6) Ask questions

7) Be attentive

8) Feel speaker’s feelings (empathize with speaker)

9) Give feedback

10) Pay attention to what is not said.

Although it is tough to be a good listener consistently the 10 step formula would always help one to improve their listening skills.

Overview of Contemporary Fireplace Materials

A wide variety of materials can be used for building a fireplace. Here's a quick overview of contemporary fireplace materials. In the section that follows, the emphasis is on the exterior finishes. The materials that can serve as an ideal basis for the construction of the fireplace are highlighted.

Stone – Given its varying characteristics due to the mineral composition, stones differ according to color, texture and hardness. Some may even vary in appearance with geographical origins. A wide variety of stones are ideally suited to the exterior of a fireplace, especially limestone, sandstone, granite, slate and marble. With the advance in technology, we can even select man-made stones for building and finishing fireplaces with a robust, industrial look.

Marble – It's traditionally used in the mouth of the fireplace and has an established synonym with luxury and sophistication. Though normally seen on classical fireplaces, there're also contemporary interpretations of the fireplace, forging a new aesthetic idiom.

Wood – Though it's flammable, it can be treated to become fireproof. Its use is restricted to cladding, often in the form of pans on the front of the fireplace. It's also used for custom-made shelves and closets on the front and sides of the fireplace.

Brick – Due to their exceptional fireproofing properties , they're ideal for building fire. They're also popular as exterior cladding to create an unfinished look. This sits well in urban spaces, especially when industrial bricks are used.

Metal – This can be extremely striking as a fireplace material with cast iron, stainless steel and copper as the most common types used. Cast iron is the most suitable for monolithic fireplaces, cast in a single piece. Sometimes left bare, it can also be painted in a dark color to emphasize its stark physical presence and allow the essential elements of the fireplace to stand out.

Parget – Exterior of fireplaces made from cement or bricks can be coated with plaster, which softens the contours and unifies the ensemble by endowing with an impeccable white finish. My favorites are those with bare surfaces and geometric forms in the purest of minimalist style.

Tiles – Durable and fireproof, tiles are another excellent fireplace exterior material. As part of the bespoke trend running through fashion and contemporary home interior, designers are using tiles with hand-painted designs to decorate the upper panel above the mantelpiece.

Causes And Treatment For Allergies

Allergies are common occurrence and we mostly ignore it as a momentary irritation. But allergies can be life threatening. Children are also allergic to substances. There is no cure for allergy, however there are ways to relieve the symptoms or even prevent them from occurring.

What are allergies:

Apply Life Quotes In Daily Life

Life quotes gives inspiration which can be applied to every aspect of life. The reason is, it fits into almost every situation. Besides inspiration, it also gives wisdom which can help us to make a good life. Why we must make a good life? Because Socrates have said, “Not life, but good life, is to be chiefly valued.”

Life quotes teaches us to know people around us and to recognize ourself. According to Lao Tzu, he who knows others is learned and he who knows himself is wise. The wisdom we gain from that saying makes us wise. For us to be wise, we must know ourself. For our whole lifetime, we spend our time with our self. If we cannot recognize our true self and express it for the good of others, there’s no meaning for our life.

So if you want to make good life, you must has certain quotes to be your principle. I believe most successful people has an inspiring sayings which has given them wisdom when everything seem to be against them. What is your favorite life quote? If you don’t have one, you can start to search for some. Look which one inspires you and make it your own motto. There are thousands to choose from.

Before you can make good life, you must become better self. I have an example of life quote I have chosen and maybe you can use it too. Mark Victor Hansen said, “End your day by privately looking directly into your eyes in the mirror and saying, ‘I love you!’ Do this for thirty days and watch how you transform.” That’s the most life transforming quote I have ever known. If you apply it, you will find you, loving yourself more than yesterday. It will take some time before you see the result, however you will somehow get the result. It will only be matter of time.

The Right Home Insulation Will Keep You Warm in Winter

There are many home insulation types to choose from, but ultimately your choice will be dependent on the followings:

• The location of your household will be assigned an R-value as defined by the local building codes. The R-values vary greatly across the country, for example, somebody in Maine would have his minimum required R-value different from someone in Arizona. All builders should be aware of the local requirements. In Maine, the values read R-19 for floors and walls, whereas the higher R-30s to R-40s are applicable for roofs. For milder climate locations, the minimum values for floors / walls and ceilings are R-10 / R-11, and R-19 respectively.

• If there is any ductwork running on your attic (the presence of attic ductwork would call for more stringent insulation in the ceiling).

• Framing style of your household

Home insulation types that satisfy higher R-values ensure that summer is kept cool and winter is warm.

For the purpose of maximum energy efficiency, it is advisable that you consider an R-value that is 50% upward of the minimum required. However do it with practical sense. Do not just trust the builder or yourself to apply very high R-value insulation onto any space indiscriminately. Read the manufacturer's recommendations instead.

Essentially there are two home insulation types: moisture movement friendly and not. The type that prohibits any form of moisture movement is referred to as close-cell foam. The type that allows comes in these three forms:

• Loose fil

• Batt

• Open-cell foam

Loose Fil

Loose-fill consists of fine particles of foam, fiber, fiberglass, mineral wool, slag wool, rock wool, or cellulose. The insulation is applied by using pneumatic guns to blow these particles into a home's ceiling, walls, or attic.

• Fiberglass is made up of 20% – 30% recycled glass alongside other natural ingredients like sand.

• Mineral wool is primarily made up of recycled by-product from industrial production.

• Rock wool is a combination of blast furnace slag, aluminosilicate rock (usually basalt), and dolomite or limestone.

• Slag wool is actually derived from the waste in steel manufacturing. Both slag and rock wool insulations are said to be more environmental friendly because they re-use waste or by-products materials from other processes, that would otherwise ended up in a landfil. Additionally, they require less energy to be produced, according to manufacturers. Slag and rock wool insulation provides effective absorbent capacity, and noted for being bacteria and mold resistant, non-inflammable as well as non-combustible.

• Cellulose insulation is widely recognised as the "green" home insulation type; for its composition of recycled newspaper and natural wood. As the insulation is applied through blowing pneumatic air (instead of the conventional approach of laid sheets), it fits easily into tight, odd corners (such as around pipes). It offers the highest R-value among its peers. However, for blown-in insulation, the R-value can only be measured after the insulation has been completed. The added bonus of cellulose is that it has chemical additives that are fire-retardant, earning itself class-1 fire rating. Cellulose insulation has to comply with the standards by Consumer Products Safety Commission. Numerous testing laboratories have also been conducted to establish a certification programs fro cellulose installation material quality and installation procedures conforms to the standards published by government and industry. The National Association of Home Builders National Research Center is the body responsible for such certifications.

If you have completed your framing, it may still not be too late to reap benefit from this home insulation type. Start by making incisions between the walls studs, then follow up with the blow-in process into the holes, and finally have the holes sealed off. Please check with your builder or a qualified professional for additional help.

Remember that the R-value of cellulose insulation will not stay static throughout its life span, thus, more cellulose will need to be added from time to time to make necessary compensations for this settling.

Batt Insulation

The conventional fiberglass type home insulation has the fibreglass (comes in rolls form that are long and pre-cut) positioned between the walls studs, on the floor, or spread out across the ceiling. Mishandling is a major cause of losing effectiveness. Studies from California Energy Commission have suggested that even a half-inch gap is likely to bring the efficiency down by 50 percent!

Options for fiberglass batt insulation are abound, talk to your local builder on what works best for you.

Open Cell Foam

Open-cell foam insulation belongs to the soft insulation category. The supplied materials are cut into sheets to fit spaces or be sprayed into corners (takes just a few minutes to cure). The R-value is determined by the corresponding thickness of these sheets. This type of home insulation are typically applied in basements and beneath vinyl siding.

Ceiling Water Stains, What to Do?

There is nothing more hideous than a stain on your ceiling, what are you
going to do.

First thing you do is to figure out where the problem originated from, and stop it.
After you fix the stain you do not what it to come back, worse! Once the source of
the ceiling stain is fixed. The ceiling stain is still there, ugly, sticking out like a sore
thumb for every one to see. Before you do anything make sure that it is totally dry.
So give it a few days after you fix the water problem source, to give it plenty of time
to dry all the way through.

Make sure that the structure of the sheet rock is not compromised. If it is, you have
some more work to do.You have to replace part of the sheet rock and resurface that
part of the ceiling to match the rest. This is tricky so take your time.

If it is just a stain. There is a simple fix, almost too simple. Go to your local home
improvements store, and look for Kilz in the spray can. Spray the spot in a couple of
very thin coats. It will be gone. If you get some white paint, it will have the opposite
effect. You will get a white spot. Almost just as bad.

Ceiling stains, Gone!

Parquet Flooring

Parquet flooring is made up of square pieces of wood in a geometric design. Parquet flooring offers a variety of design options. There are several types including laminate, parquet bamboo, multilaye, solid parquet, lamparquet, mosaic, etc. The collection of parquet includes maple, beech, cherry tree and oak classics, and dark wood types.

Parquet flooring has several advantages. It can be cleaned easily and has durability against spills and stains. It has environmental advantages over carpeting and synthetic based floor systems. It is easy to maintain. If the flooring begins to show signs of damage, the outside can be renewed by applying light sanding and re-sealing using varnish. Parquet flooring is installed directly over a concrete basement.

There is a high demand for prefabricated parquet. Beech is the most popular type of wood used and is preferred over oak. Prefabricated parquet is now available with pre-oiled, waxed or finished surfaces. Product developers aim to make the surfaces as easy to care and scratch resistant as possible. Consumers normally demand light colors. Strip flooring is the method of installation recommended by manufacturers.

In earlier days, parquet was made of strips of wood affixed into square blocks. This type of flooring was extremely sensitive to moisture and would bulge and collapse when exposed to humidity. Today, parquet flooring is made of plywood or a hardwood and is given a laminated finish. This flooring is resistant to moisture and can be installed even at the basement level.

Parquet flooring is seeing a revival in the market. With the increase in health and environmental consciousness more and more customers are returning to parquet flooring.
