Grow Beautiful African Violet Houseplants Using Hydroponics

Using hydroponics to grow African Violets.

African Violets are lush colorful small houseplants and are favorites throughout the world. Most people dearly love these small potted flowers because they are beautiful, abundant flowering plants that take little room and can grow in nearly any corner or on a window sill.

Did you know you can grow beautiful African Violets using hydroponic gardening? It is soil-less, using nutrients that feed the root system. The flowers are twice as healthy and much more lush if grown with hydroponics. They need good lighting and even temperatures.

They need room to grow a root system, but it cannot be too large or the plants will not thrive. With Hydroponics gardening, the plant would not have to waste its energy developing extensive root networks because the hydroponic system with special nutrient supplies would take care of that. Thus they grow more lush, and faster.

Using normal soil and pot, they are a slow growth plant. Especially when starting them from a single leaf. You will find that African Violets are easy to grow indoors, and at very little cost. They are even grown commercially using glass housing and hydroponics.

The hydroponic system for growing African violets for commercial use as well has proved to be very successful. In fact, hydroponics gardening for African Violets has proven to be a very lucrative business. It is cheaper, effective, cleaner than outdoor gardening, and you do not have insects, and inclement weather, weeds or insect monitoring.

The hydroponic system lends itself to an easy use of adequate lighting for this flower. The use of a proper HID or high intensity charging fluorescent light (called LED grow lights) indoors will easily satisfy light requirements for the plants. African Violet flowers needs 60 to 80 degrees temperature to achieve optimal growth. This is very easy to sustain for the indoor gardener. In the winter, make sure that the room does not get to cold for the flowers.

A very small hydroponic system is ideal for the African Violet as well as other flowers and vegetables. There are super efficient flood-and-drain pump irrigation system that ensures optimal moisture control for healthy roots. The system works by pumping nutrient solution up from a reservoir to a water tray where water levels are precisely controlled. Plants are watered uniformly on a timed cycle for optimal moisture control and healthier roots. This way when the plants are watered from below the leaves and flowers do not get damaged from water touching them. They cannot have water touch the leaf or it will die.

African violets are easy to propagate. Just cut of a leaf leaving some stem to put into water. To keep the leaf from touching water while waiting for the roots to grow, is to use foil and poke a hole in it and then place the stem through the hole into the water. This will keep the leaf from touching the water while the stem grows the roots.

When it has sufficient roots you can put it in its own pot. Many African Violet lovers will trade leafs to get a variety of different plants. You can even cross-breed African Violets.

Most people do not know that African Violets have male and female parts. The male parts consist of the stamens, which are made of anthers and filaments. They have flaky yellow pollen. The female parts consists of the stigma, style, and ovary and are mature when they become sticky, making them ready to accept the pollen. Just look in the center of a bloom of one of your African violets to see the male and female parts. Thus, you can have different colors, single, double, ruffled edges, and almost any combination you can think of.

It is best to have several different African Violet plants in your house because if the plants are only male or female, they will not be very happy and will not bloom very well if at all. You will receive ample reward for your cost and effort for the beauty these lovely plants bring to your home for years.

New Manufactured Home Foundation Essentials – 2 Must Have Upgrades

When purchasing and installing a new Manufactured Home, there are two upgrades that are recommended. They are installing a Vapor Barrier and Earthquake Bracing. Each is explained here:

Mobile Home Vapor Barrier

A Vapor Barrier for a Mobile or Manufactured home is a sheet of thick, rubbery plastic that goes directly over the dirt under a Mobile or Manufactured home. The foundation piers then rest on top of this barrier.

You really need to make sure a home you buy or have installed has this protection. Mobile and Manufactured homes need dry ventilation underneath. This barrier will prevent any moisture from damaging the home – especially rotting of the floors, but also helping with fungus, mold, and termites.

Making sure that a vapor barrier is installed before you buy a Mobile or Manufactured home is absolutely necessary. And the additional cost is very minimal considering the amount of protection you gain.

If you are buying a mobile or manufactured home that is already on a space, but with no vapor barrier, then you can hire a contractor to install a vapor barrier under the home. They will just have to cut pieces that will go around the pier-and-post foundation and all piping in place. This is not ideal, but way better than no barrier at all.

Mobile Home Earthquake Bracing

Earthquake bracing is recommended in California, and elsewhere earthquakes are common. Mobile Homes and Manufactured Homes are especially susceptible to damage in a earthquake due to their foundation system (most of the time they are installed on a pier-and-post system).

Earthquake bracing is a simple upgrade that can increase the value of your home by at least the cost of installation of the bracing. This cost is running from $2000 to $4500 in California right now. The actual brace is like a shock absorber in a car, but installed at an angle from the steel I-beam on the bottom of the home, and anchored to the ground. This brace will keep the home from shifting off the pier-and-post foundation.

Insurance companies may insist on having earthquake bracing installed if you want to purchase earthquake insurance on your Mobile Home or Manufactured Home.

Earthquake bracing can also help a Mobile Home not come off the foundation in high winds, although it is not designed to do this and should not be relied on for this.

Pictures and further explanation on both of these upgrades, as well as a whole bunch of free information, tips, advice, and recommendations can be found at: http://www.free-mobile-home-info.com

Locksmith Services – Everything You Wanted To Know About Locksmith Services

When you lock yourself out of your car and call for the lock picking services of a 24 hour locksmith, you have first-hand experience with one of the job skills of the locksmith. If needing a locksmith made you late for your appointment, you probably have very mixed feelings about the services of a 24 hour locksmith. On the one hand, there is relief when the locksmith helps to gain access to the vehicle, but self-condemnation for needing the lock picking services of a locksmith in the first place.

Being a 24 hour locksmith is a good career when as a locksmith you can help someone by a few minutes of lock picking. However, there is more to being a locksmith than lock picking. Louis XVI was an amateur locksmith under the tutelage of a master locksmith who ultimately betrayed him

Historically, a locksmith was a revered artisan and a lock was a work of art. Lock picking was also a common occupation, but didn’t have the public’s appreciation. The locksmith created while lock picking masters challenged the creation of the locksmith. A study of the locksmith throughout history is a fascinating peek into artistry and security. Often lock picking skills kept pace with those of the locksmith.

A 24 hour locksmith today does not make locks, but performs lock picking, lock repair, and cleaning locks. The usual locksmith is routinely called to bring his locksmith tools to install new locks. Although a 24 hour locksmith in a small town wouldn’t have enough to do if he only did lock picking to help people with missing keys, the 24 hour locksmith is best known for this aspect of his work.

The 24 hour locksmith will also clean and repair broken locks. Sometimes a 24 hour locksmith is hired to do a check of the security system. The locksmith may try lock picking to test the entrances. A 24 hour locksmith is called when a company replaces locks on entrance doors. The 24 hour locksmith is called when replacement or repair work is needed for safes or vault locks. The locksmith is the one who checks security systems after a burglary, fire or earthquake.

A company may call a 24 hour locksmith to recycle older locks so that a new code appears in the place of the older one. The locksmith then replaces original locks with renovated locks

We hold intruders responsible for lock picking, but a locksmith does the same thing, only legally. A locksmith may be hired specifically to stop those with lock picking skills. Electronic locks and keyless security systems require that a locksmith have a whole new battery of lock picking skills.

How to Choose the Right Window Blind

How to Choose the Right Blind

Introduction to Blind Types…

The information below is all you need to know to buy the perfect blinds and you can quickly learn all there is to know from the comfort of your home.

There are many factors that should influence the type of blinds you choose. You need to account for how well the blinds will complement your furnishings and how they will complement the construction materials used in your house, office or other property. Having a consistent design style is important but there are certain exceptions to this rule including children’s bedrooms and play areas. You may also want to consider keeping a style consistent from the view outside of your property.

But most importantly – design and style are very much down to the individual.

Choose blinds that best suit your own tastes.

Blinds Terminology…

Like many industries the window covering industry has some terminology that you may not immediately understand. When talking about window blinds, there are many different types of window blinds but the most popular can be categorised under 3 different types;

1. Venetian Blinds

2. Roller Blinds

3. Roman Blinds

Venetian Blinds

Venetian Blinds are available in three different materials,

1. Aluminium (also known as mini blinds),

2. Wood

3. Ecowood (also known as faux -wood, eco-wood or PVC blinds).

Aluminium Venetian Blinds

Aluminium Venetian Blinds are often used in kitchens and bathrooms and in business offices. Almost always Aluminium Venetian Blinds and sold with 25mm slats. This is due to the flexible nature of the Aluminium slat. Sometimes Aluminium Venetian Blinds are known as Mini Blinds.

Aluminium Venetian Blinds are a very inexpensive way to cover a window and although the common colours are white and silver they can be found in a variety of colours to match the interior of your home or office.

Wooden Venetian Blinds

Wooden Venetian Blinds are a very stylish way to cover you windows and dress up the interior of your home. They are most commonly sold with 50mm slats but are also available in 25mm slats. Other slat size options can be found but are not commonly used.

Most wooden blinds are made of a very lightweight wood called basswood but they can also be found in a variety of oriental hardwoods and bamboo. Basswood is the ideal material due to its robustness – it warps less than other woods over time. Wooden Venetian Blinds are a perfect choice for large windows and are suitable for most windows in the home. The only area to avoid is places where there is moisture in the air like bathrooms. The most common wood type colours are lightwoods for example cedar, mid coloured woods like cherry and darker woods like mahogany. Wooden Venetian Blinds are also often sold in White.

Ecowood Venetian Blinds

Ecowood Venetian Blinds are becoming a very popular choice and are made from composite materials usually PVC or plastic but can include some wood. They are very popular because they are durable and easy to clean and they do not warp or discolour over time like wood. They are especially good for areas that may be exposed to moisture as they do not warp easily. The most common colour for Ecowood Venetian Blinds is white.

Roller Blinds

Roller Blinds are window coverings that can be opened by rolling the shades up on a cylinder that runs above a window. Roller Blinds are made from 100% polyester material. Roller Blinds typically come in two variants, Sunscreen and Blockout. Sunscreen Roller Blinds allow a certain degree of light to come through the fabric into the room, and Blockout, as the name suggests, Blockout all sun and glare.

Roller Blinds are also very inexpensive and therefore have been popular for years. A wide range of colours are available and the simple rolling mechanism of the Roller Blinds means they can last for many years without showing signs of degrading.

Roman Blinds

Roman Blinds are window coverings that are operated by rolling sections of the blind up into a stack. Roman Blinds offer a softer feel in your home and are the type of blind that can often be well matched to other furnishings. Various fabric types can be used in the manufacture of Roman Blinds but typically Polyester, Linen or Cotton fabrics are used. Roman Blinds also typically come in two variants, Sunscreen and Blockout. Sunscreen Blinds allow a certain degree of light to come through the fabric into the room and Blockout, as the name suggests Blockout all sun and glare.

Roman Blinds offer an attractive alternative to traditional window blinds and are well suited for living environments. They can be easily removed from the headrail for cleaning purposes. Roman Blinds are available in a range of stylish patterns and designs.

Which blind for which room?…

It is also worth considering a number of more practical factors when looking at blinds for different room types. Some of these are listed below…

Living Room / Living Areas:

For rooms that take a lot of natural light in, sunscreens roller blinds are a good option. They allow you to keep your privacy during the day whilst also adding a stylish modern look. Equally Roman Blinds are a good option.

Kitchen:

Windows by a sink should be easy to clean and not suffer from water damage. It is for this reason that Aluminium Venetian blinds and Ecowood Venetian Blinds are a better option than Wooden Venetian Blinds. Sunscreen Roller Blinds and standard Roller Blind fabrics are also easy to clean and quite often used in kitchen areas.

Bedrooms:

Blockout Roller Blinds and Roman Blinds are the most popular choices for bedrooms for total privacy and to block all light.

Bathrooms:

Moisture in the air shouldn’t normally affect the quality of window blinds, but prolonged moisture can begin to affect blinds after a period of time. If the blinds are likely to get direct water pressure, Aluminium Venetian Blinds or Ecowood Venetian Blinds are the best option. Any polyester based Roller Blind fabrics are not recommended and neither is Wooden Venetian as they wood is likely to warp. Most wood blinds are treated with a coating to resist water, but eventually they will break down when in continual contact with moisture.

Nursery / Play Rooms / Children’s Bedrooms:

Safety is the most important factor here. Your blinds should come with safety Chain Guides. It is imperative these are used. It is important to also ensure that Chain Guides are well out of the way of cots, beds and other furniture. Keeping the room dark is often an objective for children’s bedrooms. Blockout Roller Blind are best suited for this.

Decorating Advice by Type of Window…

Sliding Doors:

For sliding doors Roller Blinds are often the best option as they roll up tightly at the top and take up less space than other blinds types. With Venetian Blinds and Roman Blinds the slats or fabric can take up an additional 200mm when wound up to the top – this will take up valuable space in the walk through or it means you will have to install the blinds high above the top of the sliding doors.

It is also essential to make sure that door handles do not obstruct the blinds movement. Roller Blinds can be reverse rolled away from the handle to miss any obstructions.

When fitting on the face of the door, any product would be suitable, just remember to add around 200mm onto your drop measurement so that when the blind is wound up it is out of the way of the door area.

French Doors:

With French Doors it is recommended that you use the same products as those already on windows in that room this will keep your look consistent.

Another thing to keep in mind, when placing an order for blinds that will cover a door, is the location of the tilt control and the lift control. You will want to have the controls for the blind on the side of the hinges and not the handle. They can get in the way and become a nuisance if they are near your door handle when you are trying to come in and out, they are less likely to get in the way of the hinge.

Windows with a Nice View:

When you have a window with a nice view it is recommended that you install a Sunscreen Roller Blind. This product will ensure that you can continue to enjoy the view.

What You Should Know About Spasticity and Muscle Spasms

A. Problem Specifics

Spasticity is the state of increased tone of a muscle and an increase in the deep tendon reflexes. For example, with spasticity of the legs (spastic paraplegia), there is an increase in tone of the leg muscles so they feel tight and rigid and the “knee-jerk” reflex is exaggerated. It does not occur immediately following a spinal cord injury. When an injury occurs to the spinal cord, the body goes into spinal shock that may last several weeks. During this time, changes take place to the nerve cells that control muscle activity. This affliction is most common in patients with MS (Multiple Sclerosis) and other auto-immune diseases such as Lupus and Rheumatoid Arthritis.

Following a spinal cord injury, the nerve cells below the level of injury become disconnected from the brain at this level. This is due to scar tissue that forms in the structure of the damaged area of the spinal cord thus blocking messages from below this level of injury from reaching the brain.

B. Causes and Symptoms

Once spinal shock wears off, the natural reflex that is present in everyone re-appears. Spasticity is an exaggeration of the normal reflexes that occur when the body is stimulated. In an able-bodied person, a stimulus to the skin is sensed and a sensory signal is sent to the reflex arch where it travels to the brain via the spinal cord. The brain then assesses the stimulant and if the stimulant is thought not to be dangerous, a signal that is inhibitory is sent along the spinal cord canceling the reflex from moving the muscle. In a person with a spinal cord injury (or given someone with MS), this inhibitory signal is blocked by the structural damage in the spinal cord and thus, the natural reflex is allowed to continue resulting in a contraction of the muscle. This is how spasticity is born.

Muscle spasms and/or spasticity occur in a person with a spinal cord injury any time the body is stimulated below the level of injury. This is usually noticeable when a muscle is stretched or there is a painful stimulant at this level. Because of the injury to the spinal cord, these sensations can trigger the reflex resulting in the muscle to contract or spasm.

Almost anything can trigger spasticity. However, there are specific conditions that can make it more of a problem. An infection of the kidneys or bladder will often cause spasticity to increase a great deal. A skin breakdown will also increase spasms. In a person who does not perform regular range-of-motion exercises, the muscles and joints become less flexible and almost any minor stimulation can cause severe spasticity.

C. What To Do About Spasticity and/or Muscle Spasms

Some spasticity may always be present. The best way to manage or reduce excessive spasms is to perform a daily range-of-motion exercise program. Avoiding situations such as bladder infections, skin breakdowns or injuries to the feet and legs will also reduce spasticity. There are three primary medications used to treat spasticity – Baclofen, Valium, and Dantrium. All have some side effects and do not completely eliminate the problem.

Another treatment of severe spasticity is the implantation of a Baclofen pump. The pump delivers a pro-grammable amount of Baclofen directly to the fluid surrounding the spinal cord. The drug then inhibits the reflex signal in the reflex arch of the cord stopping stimulation of the muscle to spasm.

Because the drug is delivered directly to the spinal cord, a very small amount can be used in comparison to a large amount that may have to be taken orally. Once a Baclofen pump is implanted, oral anti-spasmodic drugs are usually stopped.

D. Cautions with Solutions

Surprisingly, there are some benefits to spasticity. It can serve as a warning mechanism to identify pain or problems in areas where there is no sensation. Many people know when a urinary tract infection is present by the increase in muscle spasms. Spasticity also helps to maintain muscle size and bone strength. It does not replace walking but it does help to preventing osteoporosis, to a minor degree. Spasticity helps maintain circulation in the legs and can be used to improve certain functional activities such as performing transfers or walking with braces. For these reasons, treatment is usually started only when spasticity interferes with sleep or limits an individual’s functional capacity.

A surgical procedure called “radio-frequency rhizotomy” is sometimes indicated in the treatment of severe spasticity in which spinal nerves are cut in order to relieve pain or high blood pressure. Spasticity targets and destroys the damaged nerves that do not receive “Gamma-Amino-Butyric-Acid (GABA)”, the core of the problem for people with MS, spastic cerebral-palsy and other related maladies. In this case where the nerves which, due to not receiving GABA and are, therefore, generating unusual electrical activity, are cut with the remaining nerves and nerve routes carrying the correct messages, as they were and fully intact.

This is best done in the younger years before bone and joint deformities take place before the pull of spas-ticity. However, it can, as well, still be performed safely and effectively on adults. This is a permanent pro-cedure that addresses the spasticity at its “neuromuscular” root; i.e., in the central nervous system that contains the misfiring nerves that cause the spasticity of those certain muscles in the first place. After this type of procedure, assuming no complications, the person’s spasticity is usually completely eliminated, revealing the “real” strength (or lack, thereof) of the muscles underneath.

Because the muscles may have been depending on the spasticity to function, there is almost always extreme weakness after such a “rhizotomy-procedure”. The result requires the patient to work very hard to strength-en the now-weak muscles with intensive physical therapy and to learn new habits of movement and daily tasks in a “new” a body without the spasticity. Rhizotomy’s result is fundamentally, not like orthopedic surgical procedures where any release in spasticity is essentially rewarding but temporary.

There is a support group forum, designed for families, users and potential users of the Baclofen pump, to control spasticity. They are called the Intrathecal Baclofen Therapy Discussion Board Forum.

The Synchro-Med pump is an implantable, programmable, battery-powered device that stores and delivers medication according to instructions received from the programmer. The primary differences between the pump-models are the size of the reservoir and the presence of a side-catheter access port. They are reached at http://www.medtronic.com – The SynchroMed Pump.

The CODMAN 3000 Infusion Pump is a cost-effective therapy for those patients that fail conventional medical treatment. This elegantly simple device features an inexhaustible power supply and does not require frequent replacements associated with battery-powered pumps. Codman is part of the Johnson & Johnson family of companies reached at http://www.codman.com.

Relieve Foot Pain With Simple Exercises

Did you know that pain in the ball of the foot may be due to an inability to fully bend your ankle joint? Did you also know that the type of shoes that you wear (i.e. high heels) may be at the root of the cause of the pain? Don’t despair. There are some simple exercises that may help to relieve the pain in the ball of the foot.

Pain-free walking requires the precise integration of numerous joints, muscles, tendons and ligaments. One of the most critical and complex joints involved this process is the ankle joint. The ankle joint is required to bend the foot downward, toward the floor, (plantar flexion), upward toward your head (dorsiflexion), rotate inward (inversion) and outward (eversion). For this discussion we are going to focus on problems caused by the limitation of ankle joint dorsiflexion during walking.

Inability to fully dorsiflex the foot results in a condition referred to as ankle equinus. It is called equinus from the term equine which refers to a horse. I am not implying that a person with ankle joint equinus has a hoof. However if you notice a horse’s hoof, the front of the foot points in a downward direction; it appears to be plantar flexed (pointed down toward the floor). The person with ankle joint equinus may appear to have a plantar flexed foot and may have a tendency to walk more on their toes.

Rarely, ankle equine is caused by a piece of bone from an old fracture blocking the proper motion of the ankle or by a congenitally short Achilles tendon that prevents full dorsiflexion of the ankle. Ankle joint equinus may also be caused by arthritis that results in deformity of the bones of the joint that interferes with the full dorsiflexion of the joint. Most commonly ankle joint equinus is caused by tight calf muscles. If the calf muscles are too tight the ankle is not able to fully dorsiflex the ankle.

Spending too much of your day in high heels can result in tight calf muscles and subsequently ankle joint equinus. The body adapts to the demands that are placed upon it. If you wear high heels the distance between the heel and knee is decreased and the calf muscles will contract in order to compensate for this shorter distance. Then when you put on your flatter shoes and try to walk the tight calf muscles interferes with the ability of the ankle joint to function as it should to provide pain-free walking.

The person with ankle equinus has a tendency to walk on the ball off the foot. They have difficulty keeping the heel on the ground as they walk and raise the heel off the ground early in the step cycle. Ankle joint equinus causes the normal biomechanics of walking to get all screwed-up. When humans have biomechanical problems that interfere with the normal biomechanics of walking they compensate. People with equinus compensate by walking on their toes. They may lift up their heel early in the step that makes them appear as if they are bouncing along as they walk. They may compensate by flattening out their arch in order to take some of the load off the front of the foot. Sometimes they turn their feet to the outside as they walk and contact the ground with the inside part of the heel. All of these compensations disrupt the normal biomechanics of walking. When the biomechanics is disrupted the joints are not loaded as they should, the muscles, tendons and ligaments are strained. Strained muscles, tendons and ligaments cause pain.

People with equinus deformity may experience pain in the ball of the foot because they tend to toe walk and overload the front of the foot. They may develop pain in the mid foot from compensating by flattening out the foot and overstretching the plantar fascia, the may develop heel pain by the tight Achilles pulling the at its insertion point on the heel.

In order to properly treat the pain associated with equinus it is first necessary to determine the cause. Obviously if the problem is due to a piece of fractured bone blocking motion at the ankle joint or a congenitally short Achilles tendon, this would require an evaluation by an orthopedist for possible surgery. However if the ankle equinus is caused by tightness of the calf muscles, which is often the case, this can usually be treated conservatively.

The goal of treatment for someone with tight calf muscles is to first reduce the strain in the calf muscles and bring the floor up to meet the heel. This is usually accomplished with a heel lift inside the shoe that is used temporarily as the calf muscles are slowly being stretched through exercises. The patient may also require a custom orthotic to support the arch. The orthotic may incorporate what is called a metatarsal pad that fits just behind the heads of metatarsal bones (long bones of the foot) to take the load off of the ball of the foot. The long term treatment however involves stretching exercises and making sure the patient is placed into appropriate footwear. In addition your doctor may prescribe what is called a dorsal night splint which holds the foot in a dorsiflexed position as you sleep to facilitate stretching of the calf muscles. Let me describe some simple techniques that are used to stretch the two main calf muscles, the soleus (sole-ee-us) and the gastrocnemius (gas-trock-knee-me-us).

To stretch the gastrocnemius muscle you stand facing the wall with your feet about 12 inches from the wall. Step back about 6 inches with one leg. Then while keeping your rear knee straight, your forward knee slightly bent, your back straight and both heels on the floor, lean into the wall. When you feel the muscle start to stretch hold the position for 10 seconds. Do this stretch ten times in a row for each foot and repeat 3 times per day.

To stretch the soleus muscle stand facing the wall as described above for stretching the gastrocnemius with one foot further back. However this time squat down as if in a seated position while keeping your hands on the wall for balance. When you start to feel the muscle stretch as you lean toward the wall, hold the position for 10 seconds. Do this stretch ten times in a row for each foot and repeat 3 times per day.

These stretching exercises together with a temporary heel lift and possibly a dorsal night splint will reduce the pain in the ball of the foot as our biomechanics improve. If however these measures do not improve your symptoms you may want to consider a custom foot orthotic.

Everything You Want To Know About Problematic Swollen Doors

Doors made of wood tend to function inaptly during every season. You can expect them to shrink during winters, expand during summers and absorb moisture to swell during monsoons or if you live in a humid area. Out of these situations, the swollen doors are most difficult to deal with. These become sticky, won’t close easily and are even harder to open up. If you face the problem already or are about to install a new wooden door, here is a useful discussion you need to go through.

Taking Precaution

Whenever you install a new door, make sure that it is treated with a quality exterior sealant. It is necessary that a minimum of 3 sealant layers are coated. Pay attention to the base as well as the edges of the door as they too require coatings and not just the door’s front and back. Experts also advise that the procedure is followed once in every 12-18 months.

Regular inspection may also help you avoid the swelling of doors. For example, you must ensure that the door has not attained cracks from where it may become prone to moisture. If that happens, use a primer or paint to fill the cracks. The paint may also wear along the edges causing lumps that may also lead to stickiness. Check and peel them off.

Moisture Is Not the Only Reason

While it is the moisture most of the time, there may be other reasons contributing towards the issue. First, the hinges and screws may get loose due to repeated opening and closing. Check for the same and fix them. You may also need to replace the screws to fit in the oversized holes. Next, the door or the door frame may get misaligned over time. You will need to call an expert to fix the problem.

Few Simple Steps to Take

You may try to resolve the issue with the help of a hairdryer or a heat gun. However, make sure that you maintain the right distance or you may end up burning the wood. You may also add shims to the door hinges as these make the door to tilt slightly and fit into the frame perfectly. In few cases, applying lubricant to the sticky area is also helpful. If you don’t have one in hand, you may also try to rub wax or soap.

What to Do if Nothing Works?

Sandpaper is an extremely useful remedy for swollen and sticky doors. Sand the area along the edges and beneath the door as it usually solves the trouble. You may also need to remove the door to accomplish this task. Calling an expert is what you need to do for this. If the problem is incurable, the expert may suggest replacing the door.

It is better to pay attention as soon as you notice the problem in case you wish to avoid spending more on repair.

How to Play Signal – The Card Game

Signal is a great team card game to play and is extremely fun. It is not easy to get tired of this game because it is so fun to play. You play with a regular deck of 52 cards. It can be played with 4 or more people. The object of the game is to obtain four of a kind and then signal to your partner that you have it.

To start, each partner needs to be facing each other. Before you start playing, each team should go into a separate room to make a signal for when they have four of a kind. Some examples could be winking, smiling, fluttering eyelashes, scratching your nose, licking your lips or anything else that would not immediately tip off the other teams. All signals must be above the table.

The dealer then deals four cards to each player and holds onto the rest of the deck. When everyone is ready, the dealer will start picking up one card at a time and passing it to the rest of the players in a clockwise order. If a player wants the card that has been passed to them then they may replace it with another card in their hand. Once a player has four of a kind, they will need to use their signal to show their partner they have four of a kind. If a player sees their partner giving the signal then they need to shout out “signal!” If their partner does have four of a kind then that team wins, if they don’t then that team loses.

If a player from another team notices another player give a signal, they can shout out “signal” and point to who they are calling it on. If that team does have four of a kind then the team who called it out wins, if they do not then the corresponding team wins. If the dealer runs out of cards before any team wins, then they can pick up the discarded pile and start over. Rotate dealers in a clockwise manner.

This game can go on for hours. Spice it up by rotating partners or thinking of new signal ideas. It’s always fun to come up with a fool proof signal that you can use repeatedly with the same partner.

Health and Spirituality

The special group of the WHO Executive Board for the review of the Constitution proposed that the preamble be modified to read (World Health Organization (1997) Review of the Constitution… , EB 10 1/7, p.2)

“Health is a dynamic state of complete physical, mental, spiritual and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity”

In January 1998, the Executive Board endorsed this proposal of the Special Group and adopted resolution EB 10 1.R2 recommending the World Health Assembly to modify the preamble of the Constitution accordingly (World Health Organization (1998) Executive Board 101st Session, Resolutions and Decisions, EB101.1998/REC/l, p.52-53)

In 2005, the Bangkok Charter for the Health Promotion in a Globalized World endorses a “positive and inclusive concept of health as a determinant of the quality of life and encompassing mental and spiritual well-being.”

From the earliest definition of WHO – “Health is the absence of an illness”, we have come a long way. And this is certainly on time because after a long run for science and discovery, the world is fast entering into a new era that is feeling lost for the lack of wholesome answers to many of its questions in its materialistic domain.

Especially where health and diseases are concerned, we can only move forward to a certain extent and then we draw blank. There are breakthrough medicines and super talented surgeons and yet children die young, babies are born with deformities, the organs stop functioning before their expiry dates and otherwise healthy people lose their memory. This is in addition to the multitude of mental illnesses that are baffling the experts world over while they use trial and error methods to “fix” things. And we are in the 21st century!!

Can man really claim to have understood the human body and its process of reproduction? Some may swear by genetics to have acquired all the knowledge but I always have one question- You know certain genetic coding leads to certain features and others decide the placement of organs in the body and other details, however who did this super intelligent genetic coding in the first place? I mean it is way beyond the expanse of the word “Amazing”! A man’s child is born a man with all the systems and Microsystems in exactly the same place with exactly the same function for ages together!!! The system that makes it happen or that made it happen in the first place can’t be a random “Big Bang”!! No, it was not a random happening that not just humans but thousands of creatures inhabit this earth with perfect genetic coding and a perfect place in the ecosystem and each one with a perfect intelligence in the art of survival!!

It had to be a superpower and Spirituality is the recognition of this superpower that constructed the tiniest of its creatures with perfection and with a PURPOSE.

This purpose and connection to the superpower makes us all spiritual beings that have been given a human body to experience challenges and learn the very essence of life.

Many diseases are form of these challenges that come to us with some lessons. Many studies are currently available where energy healing and faith healing methods significantly cured or at the least improved the quality of life in patients with intractable and life threatening diseases. Most of these methods work with emotional work. Many a diseases have been cured with the release of negative energy trapped due to long standing unresolved issues sometimes traceable even to past lives.

Experts from various scientific fields around the world have experienced the positive effects of spiritual healing on their patients and that includes American Psychiatrist Dr. Brian Weiss, who has done ground breaking work in Past life regression and regression therapy.

This is no way to dispute the role of medicine, however there is a need to understand that there are things beyond our physical that determine our health quality and while considering treatment one has to look beyond what is popularized more.

Today the medical practitioners all over are over-loaded with work leaving little or no time to understand the needs of the patient as a person. Patients, especially with chronic illnesses and terminal illness suffer from a lot more beyond the physical incapability and pain. There is emotional pain over loss of health, family disturbances, pain of dependence, financial burden and much more which needs to be addressed as much as the physical illness.

In this era of specialization there is hardly any consideration of the patient as a person… he is a kidney, a heart, a lung… But the sufferer is not the kidney or heart, it is a person that is also a much more than the organs, he is emotions, needs and feelings. Plus, illnesses being a call for awakening of self, the spiritual needs are at its highest. In the absence of no one to cater to these needs the illnesses spread from physical to mental to emotional to the spiritual realms.

Man has achieved a lot and science has given us a lot, however, our truth goes beyond that. The famous need Hierarchy theory by great philosopher Sir Abraham Maslow talks about the highest need of man to be ‘transcendental self- actualization’ While Albert Einstein, the man of science, said, “Everyone who is seriously involved in the pursuit of science becomes convinced that a spirit is manifest in the laws of the Universe-a spirit vastly superior to that of man, and one in the face of which we with our modest powers must feel humble.”

“Unless we open up to this holistic definition of mankind, our questions and our efforts would always be half rewarded. We all know what Einstein famously quoted, “Science without religion is lame. Religion without science is blind”

How to Swap an H22 Into a CRX Chassis Using a Hasport Mount Kit

This can be a rather difficult swap if attempting it without any instructions or guidance. However, these step-by-step directions can make it a breeze. An H22 engine in an 88-91 civic or CRX chassis exaggerates the old power to weight ratio theory for unbelievable acceleration.

Let’s begin with assuming you have already removed the stock engine. We will start this engine swap by prepping the engine bay. The first step is to remove the passenger side transmission mount bracket that is welded to the frame. It will require the use of a drill with a large drill bit or spot weld drill bit to drill through the factory welds and remove this bracket from the framerail. After removal, use a grinder or similar tool to smooth the framerail of any debris or sharp spots left from the drill.

Next, bolt the passenger side transmission bracket that is included in the Hasport mount kit to the passenger side framerail using the 12mm battery tray bolts and factory threaded holes. You will need to use a sharpie or other marker to trace the outline of this bracket on the framerail. Remove the bracket and grind or sand the paint from the area you traced to prep it for welding.

Bolt the bracket back into place and stitch weld the bracket onto the frame rail. Be careful to fully penetrate the weld, but not burn through the factory frame rail. After the area has cooled, spray primer over the exposed welds and apply your color choice paint over the primed area to prevent corrosion.

Next comes the tricky part. The factory F/H series transmissions are very large and will require some modification to the lower portion of the rail below your newly installed bracket. It is easiest if you lift the engine partially into place to see what area needs to be cut. After cutting enough clearance, you will need to fabricate a brace out of sheet metal or similar material to properly reinforce the frame rail. This can be skipped, but be advised!

Now, some fun stuff. You will have by this time already gotten over the fright of cutting into your car, so this will be a breeze. Use a medium sized sledge hammer and put a large dent in the upper portion of the firewall to make room for the huge H22 intake manifold. It may help to partially lift the engine into place to get an idea where to “put” this dent.

Bolt the rear Hasport Mount onto the lower crossmember using the supplied hardware included with the Hasport Mount Kit. On the timing belt side of your new H22 engine, remove the timing belt covers and unbolt the factory engine mount bracket. Bolt the new Hasport motor mount bracket into place and reinstall the factory timing covers. The covers may need slight trimming to clear the billet hasport mount bracket.

Remove the H22 transmission vehicle speed sensor and replace with your factory 88-91 civic / crx cable driven speed sensor. This should be a direct fit into place. Bolt the Hasport cable to hydro conversion lever assembly onto your H22 transmission. Due to the large size of the H22 engine, you will need to either shave the outer power steering pulley, or install an under-drive style crankshaft pulley that does not have a power steering groove.

Bolt the included Hasport alternator bracket onto your h22 engine using the hardware supplied with the Hasport H22 mount kit. Then bolt your factory D series alternator bracket to the Hasport alternator bracket. You may need to slightly bend your dipstick tube for clearance. Using the remaining factory hardware, bolt your stock D series alternator “upside down” onto your H22 engine. For easier installation into the engine bay, you can wait until the engine is installed to bolt on the alternator.

Now comes the fun part. The easiest way to install an H22 engine using a Hasport Mount Kit is from the bottom. You will need to lift the car up on a hoist and “lower” it down onto the engine. When the engine is nearly in place, bolt the rear engine “L” bracket into place using just the two upper bolts. Leave the two lower bolts for the rear bracket out until the other mounts are bolted in. You can now bolt the timing belt side mount into place, followed by the transmission mount. Only hand tighten these for now. Go back to the rear bracket that bolts the engine to the rear mount and install the two lower bolts. Now tighten all of the engine mount bolts to factory specs.

For wiring, you will need to modify your stock engine harness to fit the Prelude engine. For simplicity, a new custom wiring harness can be also purchased. The axles you will need to use are custom made by Hasport and are to be installed using the H22 intermediate shaft.

5 Interesting Magnet Facts That You Might Not Have Known

Magnets are present everywhere even in the appliances that we use daily. How much do you know about these magnets? This article highlights 5 facts that you might have not known about magnets.

Fact #1 – Homing Pigeons Have An Inbuilt Magnetic Compass

An inbuilt magnetic compass helps homing pigeons in finding their way back home even during cloudy days. It is present inside the pigeon’s neck. If you place an extra magnet on the pigeon’s neck, this built in magnetic mechanism ceases to function.

Fact #2 – Magnetism In Trains

Maglev Trains (Magnetic Levitation Trains) run on very powerful electromagnets instead of the usual railway track. This magnetic track is called a guideway. Maglev Trains are best examples of Magnetic Levitation.

Fact #3 – You Can Find North Using Your Watch

Even watches have magnets in them. These magnets can be used to find North. Point the hour hand of your watch towards the Sun. The NS (North-South) will be present midway between the hour hand and number 12 of your watch. Stand in such a position that the Sun is rising towards your right. Point a pencil towards the North-South direction. The direction in which you and the pencil are pointing is the North.

Fact #4 – Even The Sun Has A Magnetic Field

Did you know that even the Sun has a magnetic field around it? This magnetic field and its curved structure can be seen through the bursting glowing gases that erupt from the Sun’s surface.

Fact #5 – Hitting A Magnet With Tools Can Destroy Its Magnetism

Hitting a magnet with hard tools like a hammer can destroy its magnetism. A magnet also loses its magnetism if you drop or heat it. All these activities can result in a dispersion of mini magnets within the magnet and this leads to a loss of magnetic properties.

A Guide To Printing Your Own Pictures, Text and Designs Onto Glass Surfaces

Decorating glass techniques vary as widely as the potential glass projects themselves. Here are a small number of popular projects that you may be considering:

Windows
Stained glass effects and simple designs are popular especially in period style properties, small alcoves, porch and front doors as well as adding finishing touches to glass windows on stairs.

Wine and beer glasses
Printing styled and coloured text is often seen on many pub glasses and effects can vary from frosted to brand logos, engraved and raised print.

Mirrors
Decorated mirrors tend to be a little more subtle, maybe a design in the mirrors corner or small sets of draws with mirror fronts can often have printed silhouettes on them.

Clip frames
Clip frames often have printed border decorations to enhance the beauty of your favourite pictures. Flower borders and designs in corners are common.

Vases

Beginners embarking on their first glass painting projects often start with a selection of plain glass vases to decorate. Again flowers head the list of popular designs as they lend themselves very well to outliner and glass colour inks.

Decorating glass – techniques, options and expectations

Glass printing techniques vary as widely as the potential projects but for sure, certain techniques are far simpler than others. It all depends on what you need to achieve. For example, let us say that you needed to print “Congratulations Susan and James” onto several glass vases for their wedding day. As this is a one off event, this project could easily be achieved with waterslide papers.

Waterslide papers are fantastic for transferring any image, picture or text that you’ve printed, onto virtually any hard surface. Projects are not dishwasher safe but as the effect is required for one day only, this would be the correct choice as pictures of flowers or other images could also be placed next to the text without any additional effort.

How to use waterslide decal papers for decorating glass

Packs of waterslide papers often come in 5’s or 10 A4 sheets which is enough for potentially hundreds of decal slip designs. If you have an inkjet printer you will also need to purchase some clear varnish spray. If you have a laser printer, clear varnish is not required.

Start by printing your text and / or picture onto the shiny side of the waterslide paper. Waterslide paper acts like regular paper and will travel through your printer in the same way.

Once your design is printed, wait for around 30 minutes to dry before spraying a layer of clear varnish on. (Inkjet only) Apply a couple more coats of clear varnish in quick even bursts to seal the print on the paper. This is necessary as the next stage is to dip your design into water for around 30 seconds.

The backing paper will then start to slide off, enabling you to remove from the water and slide the film containing your design, onto the glass surface. You will have several moments to reposition your design whilst gently removing any remaining water from underneath your design with your fingers and thumbs. The design will start to harden onto the glass over the next couple of hours.

Reasons for not using waterslide decal papers on glass

If the glass surface that you wish to decorate is going to be exposed to the elements or washed in water, you may want to consider other permanent options if possible.

Decorating glass with glass paints

With a little artistic ability a permanent effect can be achieved with some tracing paper, outliner and glass paint.

If your glass surface is flat like a glass coaster for instance, place the glass horizontally and trace the outline of your design onto the glass. If your glass is rounded you will need to fix the design to trace onto the inside of the glass.

Obtain some glass paint and cern outliner. Vitrea as a brand are a good choice and both glass paint and outliner are dishwasher proof once fixed in an oven at around 150c for 30 minutes.

The purpose of starting with your outline is to prevent your colours from bleeding into each other. Take a simple design like a flower for instance and imagine drawing a stem and several petal outlines around the top of the stem.

Your cern outliner comes with a precision tip. Create your outline by squeezing a little outliner into a tissue to check there are no blockages or airbubbles in the nozzles tip. As you work, keep wiping the tip. This will help prevent lines becoming too thick.

The next step would be to fill each petal with colour.

Start by applying the paint generously by puddling the paint or using a pipette. This will give a flat, stained-glass effect. To get a lighter colour paint, dilute with water. For non-water based paint use a gloss varnish.

Brushes can be used for filling in colour or for an easy option, glass paint markers can be used. Bullet tip markers are great for detail work and quick projects. Markers are especially smart for novice painters and kids. Bake-on markers, just like the paints are highly durable once baked. Synthetic brushes allow for more brush strokes whilst natural haired brushes allow for more paint to be applied for a smoother coverage.

Printing onto clear window cling film

Window cling is a clear film which uses static to cling to glass. Car window stickers for instance are made from window cling. It is now possible to obtain clear window cling to print your own images or text onto. Transparent designs and stained glass effects are quick and easy to achieve.

Print on window cling is a single sheet of film with a backing sheet that peels away after printing. Once you print your design out, cut your pictures or colours out, close to the edge before peeling the backing sheet away. Now, place your design directly onto your glass surface. You can move your window cling around until you are happy with the positioning but be careful not to touch the static side as finger marks can ruin your finished work.

Window cling can also be used to funk up indoor mirrors and are popular in kid’s bedrooms.

Decorating glass with clear adhesive paper

Probably the quickest way to transfer virtually any image, design or text onto glass is with clear adhesive film. This is a transparent a4 sheet of film with a clear adhesive backing. The process to use is very similar to that of the window cling except that you are not able to reposition your designs after applying to glass.

Where to buy glass decorating products

Your local arts and crafts store will always stock a wide range of glass paints either in tubes, as a powder or a paint. Ask for advice on which is best for the project that you have in mind.

Google shopping and eBay are also packed with a wide variety of glass paints and outliners. Pebeo are a leading brand and outliners can often be picked up in 20ml tubes fairly cheaply with a little shopping around.

Drop Coating Metallic Auto Body Paint

Drop coating is an important skill that every auto body paint sprayer should aspire to master. Drop coats are administered during the last phase of the spraying process when metallic paints are used. When applied to an auto body panel correctly, drop coats offer full color coverage, perfect metallic content distribution and a better paint base that can accept lacquers with ease.

Applying Metallic Paint

Drop coating should be used with all metallic auto paints. Many paint sprayers apply metallic base coats using the same methods with which they apply solid colors, and this is a common error that compromises an otherwise perfect job. While horizontal arm movements are perfect for most solid color spray jobs, metallic auto body paint should be dropped onto the panel as soon as basic coverage has been achieved, and it is equally as important to cross coat the final application in horizontal and vertical directions.

Ensuring Uniform Paint Coverage

Before drop coats can be applied, the prepared car panel must be adequately covered with metallic auto body paint to help avoid primer transparency. Once the color is activated, a full wet coat of paint should be sprayed to the surface of the panel. It is essential that each horizontal spraying movement blends into the previous one to guarantee uniform coverage and distribution (overlaps of 30% to 40% are perfect). As soon as a single we coat has been applied, the auto body paint must be left to dry for around 10 minutes. Never spray a second coat until the first one has achieved a matte appearance.

Applying a Second Coat of Metallic Paint

Personally, I like to spray the next coat of paint in a different direction to the first, especially when the panel has been taken off the car. Sometimes, this isn’t possible on vertical panels, such as fenders and doors, if they are still fitted to the vehicle so don’t be too concerned if you are happier using a typical horizontal spraying pattern. The second application must be sprayed in a similar manner to the first coat, but try to achieve 80% wetness in comparison to the earlier application. Once more, the auto body paint must be left to dry for around 10 minutes until matte.

Applying the Drop Coat

If the metallic paint is still transparent, an additional coat may be required but this won’t be necessary in most cases. To spray the actual drop coat, position the spray gun 18 to 24 inches away from the surface of the panel and reduce gun pressure by 20% to 30%. Spray the auto body paint horizontally, moving the arm slowly across the panel so the metallic color drops (or falls) onto the surface. Maintain uniform coverage until the spraying process is complete. Recoat the panel from a similar distance straight away, but swap the horizontal movements for a vertical direction so the subsequent coat crosses the first. As well as guaranteeing even paint coverage, crossing the drop coat offers uniform metal distribution and a superior surface that will accept lacquer correctly.

Tacking the Drop Coat

Allow the drop coat to dry before visually inspecting the metallic auto body paint. Check for patches where coverage might be inconsistent and spray a further drop coat if necessary. With solvent-based auto body paint, it is always a good idea to run a tack rag over the vehicle panel as soon as the drop coat has dried. Specialist tack rags can be purchased for water-based auto body paint, but it is preferable to waive the tacking process as high paint build-up can peel back the color and this can lead to frustrating rework.

What Are the Benefits of LED Lighting in the Workplace?

Many of us are already familiar with the numerous benefits that LED lighting has in the home – it is known for economising energy and therefore make an effective green solution whilst saving you money on your bills. Many of us are also very aware that this lighting solution lasts a very long time, needing to be replaced very infrequently.

Aside from these general benefits, LED lighting also has a number of specific advantages when it is used in work environments. Here are some of the main reasons why this is an excellent solution for workplaces as diverse as office spaces, construction sites and even sports fields.

Firstly, it needs to be mentioned that the cost saving benefits of LED bulbs are very important in the workplace. As businesses aim to achieve maximum cost effectiveness, LED is a product that fulfils this need, helping companies makes the most of their budgets.

Yet the benefits do not stop there; the second reason why LED is such a great solution is that it also boasts exceptionally high performance. Whereas other energy saving solutions can take a while to ‘warm up’, LED lamps are bright almost immediately. This is especially useful in environments that require brightly lit spaces for work to be carried out safely and effectively.

It should also be noted that an energy saving alternative, CFL, actually decreases in light quality over time and with frequent use. Although CFL remains a very reliable energy saving lighting solution, it certainly is not as efficient as an GU10 spotlight or LED floodlight with PIR, both of which will remain as bright on the final day of their lifespan as they did at the beginning of their installation.

Specific workplaces that can benefit from this aspect include factories, offices, production lines, studios, workshops and other areas where workers need to see with precise detail. Bulb colour temperatures that render the highest detail are CFLs or LEDs with Daylight or Natural White colour light.

Another major advantage of installing this kind of lighting solution in the workplace is that it is exceptionally flexible. There is a huge range of different LED lights on the market nowadays, ranging from spotlights for lighting offices to the LED floodlight with PIR which can illuminate the largest of spaces with great ease.

There is therefore no need to mix and match lighting solutions when it comes to LED. This one technology can fulfil the needs of virtually all working environments without exception. The best people to advise on which solution is most suitable for your working environment are energy saving lighting specialists, many of whom can be found online.

This type of lighting solution is also very durable, which makes it especially suited to tough working environments. LED lights can withstand varying temperatures and physical shocks, which means they are suited to outdoor workplaces where they may be subjected to knocks and vibrations.

Whereas other lighting solutions may become damaged in these kinds of environments, a floodlight with LED technology is unlikely to become damaged and in operational should it become struck by sports equipment or even machinery.

It is also worth noting that this type of lighting is also resistant to rain, snow and other harsh weather conditions, again making it an excellent choice in outdoor spaces. Coupled with the high performance that it delivers indoors, it really is an all-round excellent solution.

In conclusion, LED lighting is not only great for in the home, but can also bring numerous benefits to various workplaces. A flexible solution, this kind of lighting will perform well in both indoor and outdoor spaces, and even in the toughest working environments. It also allows for precision work to be carried out, with the quality of light remaining excellent throughout the bulb’s lifetime.
