Plugged Milk Duct – 4 Tips to Unclog It

Got plugged milk duct? Are your milk ducts blocked, inflamed and/or sore. The first general symptom is the presence of a small hard lump. This may be sore when touched, or might be a very tender spot in the breast.

Clogged ducts may be as a result of failure to drain milk completely. Tight nursing bras, incomplete or skipped feedings, insufficient expressing of the milk, an illness or stress are all factors that contribute to the development of a clogged milk duct. Here are four important tips in preventing clogged milk ducts.

Tip 1

You should nurse your baby, pump your breast with the use of your hand or breast pump more frequently. Removing the milk prevents engorgement and infection. Nursing should be conducted frequently and for long periods to ensure the baby removes enough milk from the breast. Latching the baby well drains the breast more adequately and you should place the baby’s chin towards the affected area.

Tip 2

Clogged ducts feel like a small lump and should be massaged with a pushing motion toward the nipple while nursing your baby or pumping. A heating pad or a warm moist towel can also be placed on the area that seems to be clogged and repeated as often as needed. The heat opens the milk ducts better and allows for more milk drainage. A hot shower or bath can also promote relaxation and unclog the milk duct. Cabbage leaf warmed in the microwave can also be used as a home remedy and put on the affected area. Hand held massagers and reusable heat packs can also be used until the duct becomes loose.

Tip 3

Milk clogs can be squeezed out of this breast. This however should be conducted under sterile and hygienic conditions to prevent infections. The breast is massaged until a white clot appears on your nipple. Moist heat should then be applied and a sterile needle is then used to pop the blister. An antiobiotic ointment should then be administered for a couple of days to prevent infections from occurring. Avoid excessive arm exercises at the gym if you are likely to get clogged milk ducts. Persistent clots with other symptoms such as feeling aches, fatigued or feverish may be a sign an infected duct. A doctor should be consulted when this occurs.

Tip 4

To relive a clogged milk duct, mothers should nurse with the breast hanging straight down. Place the baby on a bed and kneel over him to nurse. Leaning as far over as you can while pumping, can also aid in the removal of the clog. You should not wear tight fitting clothing or bras. This pressure can cause a milk duct to clog. Bras that contain underwire should also be avoided as the wire can cut into the breast and cause an infection. Supportive, not tight bras can ease some problems associated with clogged ducts and reduce the amount of clogs present.

Get Fit While Driving Your Car

Spending a lot of time in a car while commuting or on a road trip can have a negative impact on your health and muscle tone. But not if you use these simple exercises. You can arrive at your destination refreshed and toned.

Just be careful and pay attention to your driving and traffic. There are not many health benefits to an auto accident.

Exercises to do while driving

  1. Tummy toner – Sit up straight in the seat in a normal driving position. Breathe in deeply into your lower abdomen. Now instead of exhaling, push the air up to your chest, filling your upper lungs. Now slowly exhale. You will feel your posture improve and get a big rush of energy by doing this exercise. Don’t be surprised if you have to readjust your mirrors due to a higher seating position.
  2. Tummy toner two – the vacuum- Inhale normally, lean forward a bit, exhale normally but right at the end blow out just a little more very quickly. Then sit up before the next inhale. As an alternate try sitting up while making the extra exhale.
  3. Deer exercise. – Most girls are familiar with the benefits of Kegel exercises. Squeeze your pubococcygeus or PC muscles while driving. Do these while driving to arrive toned and energetic. Guys get great benefits form these exercises as well.
  4. Steering wheel isometrics. Grasp the wheel firmly in both hands. Push in like you are trying to crush the wheel. Now lean forward and pull out like your are trying to stretch the wheel. Be sure to do this exercise only on a straight section of road or at very low speed. These exercises will help firm the chest and upper arm muscles.
  5. Steering wheel curls. Grip the wheel with both hands near the base of the wheel. Pull up and toward you. Don’t pull too hard, as it is easy to damage the steering shaft this way. Just pull enough to flex your biceps and shoulders.
  6. Stress reduction – if you are getting tired or stressed, try tapping your head. Use the fingertips of one hand to tap your head just above the hair line while you steer with the other hand. Tap firmly but not painfully. The object is to stimulate the blood flow in the scalp. Tap while saying to your self “I release this stress and I choose to relax and be happy in this moment.” For even more thorough tapping try EFT.
  7. Eye exercise – Nothing gets more stress while driving than your eyes. Blink often to keep them wet. Move them around while driving instead of staring straight ahead. Use a pattern like ahead, mirror, ahead, instruments, ahead, left, ahead, right, ahead, mirror, etc. When rubbing the eyes start by placing your index and middle fingers on the bridge of your nose. With firm and steady pressure move outward along the eyebrow and then down the cheekbone. Follow the cheekbone around to the nose and back up to the bridge. Never reverse the circle, as it will cause the tender skin under the eye to get stretched and look baggy.
  8. Toe Wiggling – while seated and operating foot controls, fluid stagnates in the feet. Wiggling your toes will help pump the fluid out of your feet and back where it belongs. Pay attention to the position of your toes while driving so that you do not keep your toes curled or extended for any length of time.

While taking a break – exercises:

  1. Leg stretch: Stand on one foot and place the heel of the other foot on the bumper of your car. Bend over and touch your toe. Change legs and repeat. This movement helps to relax the calf and thigh muscles that become contracted while operating the foot controls. Lymph stagnates in the legs while driving and this movement helps to get it flowing again. It is best practiced when first stepping out of your car.
  2. Twists: Stand with slightly bent knees. Hands at your sides. Relax. Twist your waist back and forth swinging your arms out fully letting them flail along. This seemingly simple movement has many, many benefits. First it helps to realign your back, especially the vertebrae in the lumbar region. These vertebras get compressed while driving. Second, it gives your internal organs a good massage, helping them do a more efficient job. This internal massage leads to improved circulation and better digestion. And you will need improved digestion to handle all that nasty road trip food.
  3. Calf Stretch: If you are ever prone to heel spurs (plantar fasciitis) or just want to make sure you don’t, do these simple stretches while pumping gas or anywhere where you may have to stand for a couple of minutes. Find a curb – like the one the gas pump sits on – and place your toes on the curb and your heel on the surface below. Rock your weight forward until you feel a slight stretch in the tendon or your calf. Don’t push too hard just feel it stretch and hold for at least 20 seconds. Repeat with the other leg. If your don’t have a curb handy, use your tire. Place your toe on the tire with your heel on the ground. Lean forward to feel the stretch.
  4. Arches: Stand about three feet from the side of your car facing away from it. Reach up with your hands over your head. Arch your back and reach behind you to grab the rain gutter or roof rack. Lean on back trying to touch your head to the window. Hold for at least 30 seconds. This exercise is a great overall stretch. It eliminates most back pain due to driving and is an excellent tummy toner as well. Once you get more advanced, try stretching to the hood or bumper.
  5. Fender push-ups: Stand about three feet away from the fender of your car facing it this time. Keep your legs and back straight and lean over and support your weight on the fender. Now, bend your elbows in a push up motion. This will give you a light shoulder tone up and enhance circulation.
For move advanced, try using the bumper or door sill.

By practicing these simple exercises you can use the time spent in your car to help improve your body. Just be sure to stop if you feel any pain and to consult a physician if you have any doubt about your ability to perform any of these movements.

So next time you are stuck in a traffic jam, use the time to improve your body. Even if you arrive late you will look good and feel refreshed when you get there.

Sport Shoes, Choosing the Right One

Sport Shoes

There are many different shoes to wear for sport. You may be thinking that all sport shoes come under the heading trainers, which is correct in a way but there are many different variations of trainers. Depending on the type of sport you are playing or what physical activity you are involved in will depend on the type of sport shoe you should be wearing. Here is a look at some of the different sports / activities and the sport shoe you should be wearing for them.

Football Sport Shoes – typically football sport shoes are studded because you generally play outdoors, and with normal trainers you can easily go sliding on the grass. The studded boots stop you from spending half the time on your bottom and allow you to still play the game with ease and speed. If you are playing indoor football then the normal sport trainer will do as no studs are needed because you are only playing in a hall on wooden floors usually. Ridged bottomed sport shoes are better in this situation because you can still slide around which can cause injury, the ridges will stop this and allow you to move in different directions speedily without hesitation.

Running Sport Shoes – if you are runner then your footwear really is very important. Running puts pressure on your legs and knees, especially if you are running on hard surfaces such as concrete roads and pavements. Running shoes are padded and have quite a heel on them to cushion your feet from the impact of the floor. Instead of your foot smacking down on the floor which causes injury the running shoe absorbs the brunt of it so your legs and knees feel very little or nothing at all. Running shoes are quite high as well so they protect your ankles, if you have ever gone for a run in gym trainers you may have noticed that your ankles hurt and ache the day after, this is because gym shoes do not protect or give any strength to your ankles. Running shoes give them that extra security so your ankles don’t hurt the next day.

Gym Trainers – sport shoes used for gym are generally a lot smaller than your average trainer you see for outdoor sports. This is because in a gym you are in a very controlled environment with soft cushioned floors, and the equipment is specially designed to make it safe for you and your body. Your trainers do not need to be as big because they do not need to absorb any impact because there isn’t any. If you are doing weights or situps for example your feet are very much protected in simple and thin trainers, even if you use the running machines, the conveyor belts are so cushioned that light trainers are fine to use without causing damage to your knees or ankles.

7 Ways To Be Unreasonable

Most people look to what they know they CAN do as a guide to what they WILL do; I think to get anything important done in the world, you have to look towards what you WANT to do, and then figure out how to do it.

When most people think about what they are committed to, they consider where they can build a bridge to from where they already are. What would happen if you chose where you wanted to go without considering your current circumstances and then worried about how to build that bridge?

There is nothing wrong with being reasonable, except that “what is reasonable” is a poor guide to action when designing actions to push the future. Being reasonable will help you feel safe in the sense of knowing that your actions will turn out pretty much the way you expect them to. But it is dangerous in that same sense of producing predictable results; what is predictable has, by definition, been done before. And what has been done before is unlikely to make much of a difference in the future.

Seven ways to be unreasonable.

“The reasonable man adapts himself to the world; the unreasonable one persists in trying to adopt the world to himself. Therefore, all progress depends on the unreasonable man.” – George Bernard Shaw

“Insanity is doing the same thing over and over expecting different results.” – Rita Mae Brown

“So what else is new?” – Paul Lemberg

Being reasonable

My dictionary defines being reasonable as being rational. Rational, it says, means being reasonable. A vicious circle: I know I’m in trouble already. Going further, reasonable also means being governed by reason; which in turn means explanations, justifications, underlying facts, good judgment, normalcy, plus the capacity for logic and analytic thought. Further, being reasonable means being within the bounds of common sense, as in arriving home at a reasonable hour, and lastly it means not excessive or extreme.

I’m all for logic and analytic thought, but does following the dictum “be reasonable” sound like a good way to build a breakthrough business?

The very idea of “being reasonable,” prescribes something restrictive. It exhorts us to remain “within the box,” to do what sensible people would do: not to over commit ourselves, to be cautious, to avoid risks, to hold our trump cards.

What is the alternative?

To be unreasonable, of course. Being unreasonable, like it’s more cautious cousin, suggests multiple meanings. Here are seven applications of being unreasonable.

1. Think beyond what is normal, proper, and appropriate.

Typically, one of the first things prospective clients say to me is, “But you’re not from our industry. How can you understand our problems, much less provide solutions?” My response is always the same: “That’s the last thing you need. You already have plenty of people thinking similar and over-used ideas.” What you need is thinking un-bounded by the traditional logic of your industry; ideas that can bring an un-reasoning perspective.

2. Eliminate the reasons why.

There are reasons why we have to do things a certain way. There are reasons why certain approaches to business are going to work and others will not. There are reasons why things should be the way they are and not some other way. Challenge the reasons why and ask people to set them aside. Ask, “Well, what if we did. What would happen then? Would that work? What would work better? What would really rock you?”

3. No more excuses.

When someone in your company doesn’t produce the desired results–results to which they have committed, perhaps promised themselves and their departments–they usually have a reason why not. Looking at it this way, you always have one or the other: desired results or reasons why you don’t. People act as if those reasons are almost as good as the results. How do I know this? Because they always say something like, “Well, it didn’t work, but here’s why not,” or “We didn’t get ‘it’ done, because…” Or, worse still, ” We didn’t even try because…”

Remove people’s option to resort to reasons why not. Take away their option to resort to excuses. I think the entire working world would shift if there was no recourse to the “excuse” option–if all you could do was produce the desired result, or try another way to get the desired result, or try another way, and so on.

4. Set unreasonable expectations.

Ask people to go beyond what they think is reasonable or normal, Ask them to go beyond cautious commitments that hedge their bets, to make risky pronouncements that exhilarate them but might threaten the natural order of things.

Place big giant stakes in the ground–then figure out how to deliver. Figure out how to turn those unreasonable expectations into reality. Taking this approach will dramatically increase effectiveness and productivity–and ultimately cash flow, if it works nicely–in any business. Why should you settle–why should your customers settle–for what is reasonable and predictable? Why accept the norm, the average, the median? Apply unreasonable thinking. Set unreasonable expectations.

5. Make unreasonable requests.

This approach will aid every executive when working with vendors, contractors and employees. Remember “Just say no?” Try “Just ask for more.” Keep asking for more, better, sooner. Up the ante. Ask people to perform beyond their best.

This is not a negotiating tactic. It is not “nibbling.” It is asking people to perform beyond their own sense of what is reasonable. Sometimes people will fail to meet these unreasonable commitments–don’t beat them up for it. Sometimes you will get stellar results you wouldn’t have dreamed of previously.

6. Make unreasonable plans.

Does this sound like an oxymoron? Most companies plan to achieve reasonable results relative to past successes and failures, or even worse, relative to questionable industry lore. Instead of setting these kind of goals, begin with a more profound question: what would make a really big difference? What would cause a breakthrough for the company? What would dramatically increase shareholder value or profits? What would be “worth doing?” The answers may not be reasonable; they may instead take you down a path towards huge success.

7. Forecast unreasonable futures.

Most businesses forecast their results–revenues, growth rates and so on, based on prior year’s results. They call this reasonable, and similarly they assume industry norms and consider them reasonable. But in the twenty-first century, driven by the incredible rate of change in all aspects of our: culture, industry, customer’s businesses, our workforce, available technology–to think that anything dating from last year remains the same in this one–this isn’t just not reasonable, it might be totally ridiculous.

Take into account all the factors–bring everything you know about the situation up-to-date, add to it all the future changes you predict–and use that to forecast unreasonable results and make unreasonable plans.

So what to do?

Should you give up all pretense of rationality and logic? Should you step outside the norms and ignore the accumulated wisdom of your industry? “That would be great if it works out,” you say, “but if it doesn’t my job is on the line.” Right? Well, yes, but…

Unreasonable thinking does not mean un-thinking. Unreasonable thinking is about exploring. Pushing the envelope. Cross pollinating. Intuitive inventing. It may be that the line separating unreasonable ideas from ridiculous ideas lies where thinking is left behind. Or perhaps the line lies only in hindsight.

I think the fear of failing, the fear of jeopardizing your future, is the biggest obstacle to creating great results. Yet the only way to create big giant breakthrough results is to take the road less traveled–to create ideas and programs that are unreasonable–and going for it. If you fail people will–with perfect hindsight–call your idea ridiculous. But if you succeed… wow!

Rigging Blocks for Model Ships

Ship Model Blocks

This article is intended for the ship model builder and keeps in mind what you will be given to work with in a ship model kit. It is not a dissertation on all blocks found on ships.

Simply put, a block in sailing, is a single or multiple pulley used as a lever to maneuver loads of rigging usually attached to fixed and running applications on a ship. In use one block is connected to a fixed surface. A rope or line is woven through the sheaves of that block, and maybe through one or more matching blocks at some far end to make up a tackle.

This discussion will focus on blocks used to build model ships. Due to the size of a model ship, blocks that are used are generally representations of blocks -a fairly poor representation at best! However it is quite difficult to make accurate museum quality blocks. Also the types of blocks represented in kits are typically limited to common blocks, sister or violin blocks, heart and ramshead blocks. Other types of blocks, deadeyes, hearts and bull’s eyes will be touch upon.

Following is a general description of the construction of blocks used on ships.

The shell is the outside case of a block, and is made of ash, elm, or iron. In ship model kits, the shell is typically mad of walnut or boxwood. The shell could be made in one piece or assembled from several components -which was always made of wood until the middle of the 19th century. After this time the shell was occasionally made of metal. A block consists of a shell that is made in one piece or assembled from several components -which was always made of two until the middle of the 19th century. After this time the shell was made in one piece.

The shell contained a pulley, or sheave, over which the rope ran, and which rotated on a pin. The sheave is the wheel on which the rope travels, and is made of metal, lignum-vitae ( wood that has the extraordinary combination of strength, toughness and density), or iron. The Bouch is made of metal or leather, and is the centre piece of the sheave which travels on the pin. The Pin is made of iron or lignum-vitae, and has a head at one end: it passes through the centre of the shell, and the bouch of the sheave. In ship model kits, the sheave and pin are usually brass.

The crown and tail of a block are the ends of the shell; the latter is easily known, as it has a much deeper score than the former to receive the splice of the strop, and in most cases the standing part, of the purchase. The Swallow is the open part between the sheave and shell.

The Score is the groove in the outside part of the shell to take the strops either single or double scores, according to what the blocks are required for. Double-scored are always double-stropped.

The size of a block is denoted by the length, and its classification by the flatness or thickness of the shell, the number of sheaves, the number of scores, and the quality of the stropping. A block, if one sheave, is called a single block; two sheaves, a double block; three sheaves, a treble, and so on, according to the number of sheaves. If one score, it is termed a single score block; if two scores, a double scored block etc.

A block is supposed to carry a rope one-third its length in circumference: that is to say, a 3mm. block would carry a 1mm. rope, a 6mm block would carry a 2mm. rope etc. Blocks are designed for use with a certain size of rope. Therefore, they should never be used with rope of a larger size. Rope bent over a small sheave will be distorted, and any great strain applied will damage it and may even result in the rope wearing on the frame.

Determining the size of block to use with wire rope is impossible because of the factors involved. However, experience has shown that the diameter of a sheave should be at least 20 times the diameter of the wire rope. An exception to this is flexible wire for which smaller sheaves can be used because of their greater flexibility. The construction of the wire rope has a great deal to do with determining the minimum diameter of sheaves to be used. The stiffer the wire rope, the larger the sheave diameter required.

Types of Blocks

Common Blocks

Are used for nearly all common purposes, reeving purchases, boats’ tackles, gun tackles, etc., quarter blocks, span blocks for topmast studsail halyards, and peak brails, jewel blocks at the topsail and topgallant yard-arms for the studsail halyards, and in fact, for most of the running gear.

Sister Blocks

Sister blocks are tapered, the upper part of the block being smaller than the lower part, having a deep score, as they are seized between the foremost pair of shrouds in the topmast rigging; they are thus constructed not to interfere with the spread of the rigging; they are also two in one on end, the reef-tackle being rove through the upper, and the topsail lift through the lower sheave, they are sometimes fitted in separate pendants.

Ramshead Blocks

Ramshead blocks were used to raise and take down the lower yard in order to furl and unfurl the sails. The practice of moving the lower yard ended around 1660. The ramshead block allowed for a few feet of clearance when the yard was raised or lowered.

Upper Masthead Jeer Block

A jeer block is a double block, double-scored, stropped with two single strops, the four parts – or that is, the two parts of each strop – are seized together at the crown of the block, leaving two long bights or eyes, which are passed up through the after hole in the fore part of the top, and lashed on the after part of the mast head.

Every block on board a ship has a purpose. There are at least 10 other blocks not described in this article. However in most ship model kits, you’ll only find three or four types of blocks that are to represent all blocks.

A few words on specialty blocks. We’ll discuss dead eyes, hearts and bulls eyes in another article

Dead Eyes

Dead eyes are round, and made of elm; they have three holes at equal distances to take the lanyards of the rigging, and with a deep score, according to their size, round them to take the shroud. The size of a dead eye is denoted by the diameter. Dead eyes, intended for wire rigging, have a smaller score. Deadeyes are particularly used to fasten the rat lines to the hull.

Hearts

Hearts are another description of dead eyes, used for setting stays up, are turned in the end of stays, and seized in the fore stay collars on the bowsprit. Lower ones, for main or mizzen stays, are iron-bound. Like dead eyes, they are made of elm, something resembling a heart in shape, with one large hole through the centre; in the largest heart there are four scores, and in the smallest three scores, for the lanyard to lay in. Round the outside is a rounded groove to take the stay.

Bull’s-Eye

A bull’s eye is a wooden thimble, with a hole in the middle, rounded off at the edges, with a groove round the outside for a strop or seizing to lay in. They are generally seized to the lower shrouds in Merchant ships, to act as fair leader for the running rigging.

For the model ship builder, belaying pins can be turned out on the most basic of lathes from brass, bronze, or scrap hardwood… or better yet contact Cast Your Anchor at http://castyouranchorhobby.com or contact us at Cast Your Anchor 416-686-8529 for all your ship modeling needs.

A Guide to Installing Wall Mounted Exhaust Fans

The air quality inside the home should never be ignored. Houses with poor air quality can create health concerns for its inhabitants and ignoring the importance of good air quality can be a fatal mistake. The air quality inside the home can be improved by installing exhaust fans. There are many types of exhaust fans, but the type that can be easily installed are the wall mounted variety.

Wall mounted fans are usually installed on an exterior wall of the house. Installing the fan on an exterior wall will cause the device to extract the stale air and blow it directly out of the house.

The difficulty of the installation process will depend on the type of exterior wall your house has. It will be more difficult to install a wall mounted fan on a concrete wall and you will need to have masonry skills to get the job accomplished.

The following installation steps do not take into consideration the type of wall you have. If you do not have the knowledge on working with your type of wall then it would be better to have a professional install it.

  1. Ensure that there is an electrical supply to the room that you want to have the fan installed.
  2. Most exhaust fan packages will have a wall template. Place this template on the wall and trace around it to mark the area that you need to cut out.
  3. Cut out the area marked. Concrete walls require additional work and masonry skills to complete this step.
  4. Place the housing of the fan inside the hole and mark the areas where you will need to place screws.
  5. Remove the housing and drill the holes for the screws.
  6. Firmly screw the fan into the wall and connect the electrical wiring.
  7. Test the exhaust fan and place the cover on if everything is working well.

Always take in to consideration your safety when installing wall mounted exhaust fans. If you are not familiar with electrical wiring then it is better to have a professional do this work for you.

The Future of Currency Is Digital

Would we be better off without paper money and coin? Some say yes, and some say no and the debate rages on. Government tax collectors would prefer only electronic or digital money – it’s easier to control and easier to keep taxpayers honest – but are those gains worth the drawbacks? I mean what’s wrong with cash – you can spend it anywhere, you can pay your babysitter, go to a garage sale, or stop at a lemonade stand – all of which are part of our underground economy by definition and harmless uses of transferring money.

Then there are the illegal things, no one uses digital money because it leaves a trace, so you cannot use it to buy things you are not allowed to buy or that someone else is not allowed to sell. Does it thus, make sense to get rid of the money that allows illegal transactions, shut down the entire underground economy and if we do, will our society and civilization be better or worse off for that solution? Let’s discuss this shall we?

Yes, a digital currency would be similar to regular currency and really we are almost there already anyway. If we go to “digital units” and change the paradigm to cover the needs of people who contribute who are not rewarded fairly now, then we will get more of what we reward, as is the famous axiom. A technocrat would enjoy this conversation and the thought of micro-managing the exact worth of every job, but technocrats are not so good at considering their own created unforeseen consequences as they pave the road to hell.

The reason humans use money now is simply because things and choices are more complicated than they were in the past when our species were only hunters, gatherers and traders. Let me explain; you see, if I make hammers and you need one, but you only have cattle, then you cannot cut off the tail of your cow to buy my hammer, so instead you give me $11 and you can sell your cow in the future for $1100 and give me the one-percent of it so you can build a new barn.

Money and currency is nothing more than units of trade thus, make things easier, that’s why it exists, but I do not like the bashing of currency, digital or otherwise, where many believe it is the root of all evil. I respectfully disagree. Please consider all this and think on it, as this topic does affect your life.

The Advantages of a Spun Polyester Table Cloth

A table cloth is a very important linen item in a home, hotel or bed and breakfast and it goes through a lot of wear and tear within its lifetime. Your tablecloth will get all sorts of crumbs and stains on it from various meals and be subject to hundreds of washings. This is why it is important to choose a high quality, sturdy and long lasting fabric which will stand the test of time.

One of the best fabrics for table cloths is spun polyester. This fabric has a number of advantages when it is used for a table cloth and it offers a very good value. It was actually invented in the 1970s by Johnson Industries, a company that was trying to develop it to be used in boat covers. They eventually came up with a lightweight fabric that was soft and touchable yet durable which they realised would be perfect for table cloths. They abandoned their boat cover development and starting producing table linens instead.

Here are some of the reasons why this fabric is so advantageous for use in table cloths:

It Wears like Polyester but Feels like Cotton

Polyester is a very durable and long lasting synthetic fabric, but the only downfall with using it is that it feels fake and synthetic and not very luxurious. It doesn’t have the same softness and it can give a somewhat ‘cheap’ impression. However, spun polyester actually feels like cotton. The material handles like cotton, folds like cotton and even absorbs like cotton.

If you are running a hotel or a bed and breakfast, the feeling of the fabric is important because your tablecloth and napkins come into contact with the hands and faces of your guests. The better the fabric feels, the more luxurious their experience will be.

It Can Be Washed Again and Again

While many other fabrics start to show wear and tear with repeated washings, spun polyester is extremely durable even when washed very frequently. Tests on this fabric have shown that it is able to withstand over three hundred washings. When you wash cotton over and over again it will fade, but with spun polyester the fabric will not fade and it will even become softer.

It is Wrinkle Resistant

Ironing table clothes to ensure that they look crisp and smooth can be a huge task that takes a lot of time and effort, especially if your table clothes are used frequently. When you use high quality spun polyester fabric for your table cloths, you will not need to worry about ironing as this fabric is wrinkle resistant. This will save you a lot of time and labour and ensure that your tablecloth always looks smooth and elegant.

What’s the Difference Between TFFN, THWN and THHN Wire?

I work at a wire and cable distributor and we get calls like this all the time. There are very slight differences between these wires and almost no difference at all. All three are types of single conductor electrical wire and the four letters are just approvals that the wire went through.

THHN wire stands for Thermoplastic High Heat Resistant Nylon which is fully approved and stamped on the wire. THWN is a different approval that came long after THHN and South Wire used to make two separate wires with the different approvals. Now they just make one wire and dual rate it with both approvals. THWN stands for Thermoplastic Heat and Water Resistant Nylon which just adds that it’s water resistant. So manufacturers just started to dual rate the THHN wire for both so that they didn’t have to run two separate wires every time.

TFFN is only used on 16 and 18 awg wire. It stands for Thermoplastic Flexible Fixture Wire Nylon which is slightly different than the THHN wire because it has a lower heat resistance and it’s not good for wet locations. You can’t even get TFFN in any bigger awg sizes because they’re all dual rated THHN and THWN.

All of these types of wire fall under the electrical wire category and they’re sometimes called building wire as well. The reason is electrical contractors use it and most of the time in buildings and homes. Romex is made with THHN conductors and a ground wire so that you can pull two or three wires through a home or building at once. Talk to your sales person about the type of wire you need because they use it and discuss it everyday and may have knowledge that you don’t.

Be careful because not all manufacturers will dual rate the wire just because South Wire does. They will look for ways to be cheaper and faster without the thoughts of their customers. make sure you ask if your THHN is dual rated with THWN before buying it.

How to Repair an Old Asphalt Roof

If you own an old commercial building with a flat roof odds are you have an old asphalt roof of some type. These roof surfaces are made up of layers of felt paper and tar stacked up on each other, which over the years it will or it has given you a lot of headaches. They are usually made of felt paper or felt paper that is covered with a layer of gravel, the gravel in theory was to help keep the roof cooler which it does a little but it makes repair much more difficult, not to mention all the additional weight that is added to your roofs stability.

One of the biggest problem with asphalt surfaces is that they dry up and shrink which eventually leads to cracking and this will cause your roof to leak. When this occurs you will notice that the roof surface may look a little like an alligator skin. In order to keep your asphalt roof in good condition it must be maintained. To accomplish this you should have your roof re-coated with an asphalt based coating at least once every five years or so, if you don’t it can lead to expensive and time consuming repairs. Over the years your roofs crucial oils are weathered out of the roof surface and it must be restored to maintain integrity, if you have areas with standing water then the process speeds up and your roof will fail in that area most likely first.

If you are on of the unfortunates owners of a gravel roof then you can have even bigger problems. Gravel was put on in a time when it was thought it would be beneficial to help reduce the roofs temperature with cheap gravel, it worked a little but not very much. Gravel roofs undergo the same problems as a regular felt roof but the leaks and standing water areas are much harder to spot. Another huge problem is maintaining the roof, in order to do a maintenance coating all the gravel must be removed. Sounds easier than what it is, you should contract out a gravel suction company to complete this task, but if you are feeling like you need a good workout a few flat shovels and a broom will do the job as well.

Another problem that asphalt roofs face are blistering problems. Blistering occurs when moisture works it way in between the roof layers and expands forming a huge gas pocket, eventually these pockets will expand to a breaking point and crack open, thus leaving you with a hole in your roof. If you have blistering problems you must cut them open with a cross cut so you can fold back the edges and fill them in with roof cement, then fold the cut edges back over the cement thus resealing your roof.

There are a few types of roof coatings that can be used to remedy and repair your roof problems. The most commonly used are asphalt based but if you want a better longer lasting coating you should consider using a elastomeric roof coating, they are much more durable, more energy efficient and longer lasting than asphalt coatings.

Asphalt coatings are generally black or silver in color and have a life span of about five years if applied correctly. They are generally the cheapest of the roof coatings but if you decide to go with this system be sure to purchase ones that are fiberglass embedded, they are much better at stopping and repairing leaks.

Elastomeric coatings are generally white in color and have a life span of 10 to twenty years, there are a few with a 20 year warranty as well, but they are very expensive. Elastomeric roof coatings work very well especially when combined with fiberglass mesh system as its base.

You Will Have to Undergo Some Driving Lessons Before You Are Allowed to Drive a Car on the Road

To anticipate spending too much money on medical expenses and car repair, purchasing insurance coverage is a good idea. In the event of accident, other people can be in danger too. If you are at fault, other people who are involved in the accident may file lawsuits against you. This particular circumstance will direct auto insurance company to handle all the necessary requirements, for example providing a lawyer, paying court fees, etc.

Insurance company eliminates the hassles, so you will be able to do your everyday activities without worrying about the issues too much. Another reason is that driving without insurance is basically against the law, and there will be penalties for that. Please put in mind that penalties vary between states. The difference can only be in terms of specific details, as instructed by the DMV of your state. All states have the same penalties, but there are differences in the amount of fines, procedures to reinstate insurance, etc. Some of the most common penalties are briefly outlined below.

Driving Ban & Suspended Registration

If you are caught driving without valid insurance, you will be banned from driving and your vehicle’s registration will also be suspended. There is a very simple rule: if the car has no insurance, the vehicle has no plate as well. Commonly you have to turn in the vehicle’s plates to the local DMV. In certain states, such as in New York, car insurance must be provided by a licensed company, meaning your insurer has to be listed or licensed by New York State Department of Financial Services.

Every state has a local insurance department where you can obtain a list of licensed insurers. Please make sure you only purchase coverage from the listed car insurance companies to get valid proof of insurance. In New York, insurance coverage provided by any insurer from any other state will not be considered valid. It makes sense since every state has different details in traffic regulations. If you are driving without insurance, the New York State will suspend your vehicle’s registration until certain time period.

If registration suspension exceeds 90 days, your driver license will be suspended too, meaning you cannot drive any vehicle anymore until your driver license is reinstated. In New York, you have to pay a fee of $25 – $50 to reinstate the driver license. It is better to turn in your plates to the New York DMV before your insurance coverage ends; you will then get a receipt to proof that you already turned the plates in. This rule also applies even if your car is in the storage or parked at public road.

Car Gets Towed

Excluding New Hampshire, all states in the United States penalize uninsured drivers. However, each state implements different set of rules concerning the fines and other penalties. If you commit any traffic offense, your car will be pulled over and the officer will ask you to produce driver license, vehicle titles, and proof of insurance. You will be fined based on the offense. In most states, if you fail to produce proof of insurance, your car will be towed away and impounded.

Because you were driving the car when it was pulled over, you will be responsible for paying the storage fees and fines to get the car back. Depending on the state where you live, the total amount can be thousands of dollars. Considering you have to also purchase insurance before you can repossess the car, it is safe to say you will spend more money in addition to the fines and storage fees. Usually, you will need at least liability coverage to take the car back. However, if your driver license is suspended due to traffic offenses such as DUI (Driving under Influence) or other violations, you may have to take someone with a valid driver license.

You can bring the original insurance document, the copy of it, or simply fax it depending on the DMV. Please also make sure that you bring enough money to pay all the charges. Instead of paying thousands of dollars, it is best to purchase insurance coverage which is probably way less expensive. You can use online car insurance calculator to estimate the price of insurance policies from almost every insurer.

SR-22 Requirements

Once again, depending on the state where you live, proof of insurance can be in different forms. One of the most common is SR-22 document, which basically shows you have the least minimum liability requirement to be considered legal for driving. There are some situations where SR-22 is obligatory such as when you are caught for driving under influence, at fault in the event of accident, you commit too many traffic offenses, or having non-valid driver license.

If you are required to obtain an SR-22 document, you will have to maintain the minimum insurance requirement of the state in which the document is issued and keep the document for usually 3 years, even if you move to other states. If in any case your insurance lapses or is cancelled, your vehicle registration and driver license will be suspended again. SR-22 requirements can be different from state to state, but you can ask your local DMV or insurance company for more details.

Besides SR-22 document and insurance card issued by your insurer, there are two more valid proofs of insurance that you can use. In some states, the preferred form is electronic database sent by your insurer to the DMV. Even if your insurance company uses this procedure, you must always keep the insurance card with you as backup. It is worth mentioning that some people choose not to be insured, yet they use a different form of responsibility, which is a large amount of deposit. Surprisingly, many states allow people to use this form indeed.

There are two possible methods you can use if you choose not to purchase insurance policy from any company. First, you have to make large deposit but the amount varies depending on the state; it is usually from $25,000 to $100,000. Another way is to purchase or secure a bond with a surety company. The surety bond company should be an authorized one in your state. If you prefer to use one of those methods, please make sure to keep the certificate of bond or deposit with you.

Fines

The car is indeed yours after you purchase it, but you are not allowed to drive it on the road unless you also buy insurance coverage for it. The car should be covered by at least liability insurance before it can get to roadway. When you are pulled over due to any reason, the police officer will ask for insurance card or any other valid proof of insurance.

If you cannot produce it, you will receive a ticket in addition to the actual reason why you were pulled over in the first place. For example, if you are being stopped for speeding or driving in the wrong lane, and you are currently not insured, the tickets you receive will include all those offenses. Again, depending on the states, you will probably be able to dismiss the ‘driving without insurance’ ticket.

The other violations have been committed, and there is no way to dismiss the tickets. If you can produce the proof of insurance within the time period indicated on the ticket, this specific offense can be dismissed. This is possible only if you were actually insured at the traffic stop, yet for whatever reason you did not bring insurance card or any other proof of insurance. Based on this, even the best car insurance companies in the world will not be able to save you from the fines.

In case where you were not insured at all at the traffic stop, you have to deal with an exceptionally high fine. In Ontario, for example, the minimum fine for this offense is $5,000. According to NAIC (National Association of Insurance Commissioners), the exact amount varies by state, but it typically starts from $5,000 to $10,000. There is also a 25% surcharge added to the actual fee. Driving without insurance doesn’t make any sense, since you can get cheap auto insurance easily from many companies.

Jail Time

Jail time is usually for repeat offenses only. Uninsured driver will be put in jail for a maximum of 30 days depending on the situation. To make things worse, you still have to appear in court and pay the fines based on the offenses you committed. You will therefore are penalized with both penalties. Based on a study conducted by IRC (Insurance Research Council) in 2011, one out of seven drivers in United States is uninsured.

The main reason is that insurance policies are expensive, which is not a good excuse after all. If you do a little online research, you will find numerous websites providing car insurance estimate services for you free of charge. The websites usually access some of the most reputable insurers in the state and perform the estimation based on the personal data you provide such as age, car model, address, mileage, etc.

Such estimation will not be 100% accurate, but you can at least predict the actual amount you need to pay. If you won’t use independent estimator, you can ask for car insurance quotes from almost every company in the state. Those companies nowadays provide the quotes for free, and you can get it without buying their policies.

What happens if the other driver has no car insurance?

No Pay No Play

This is a relatively new penalty, and it is currently only implemented in 8 states across United States including Oregon, North Dakota, Alaska, Iowa, California, Michigan, Louisiana, and New Jersey. The law basically states that uninsured drivers are not allowed to receive compensations from insured drivers regardless who are at fault in the event of accidents. In Montana, for example, uninsured drivers are allowed to file a lawsuit against their insured counterparts to obtain compensation for non-economic damages.

With ‘no pay, no play’ law, uninsured drivers are prohibited from doing so because they basically are not providing the same benefits to others. In the simplest way, uninsured drivers are considered cheating on those who are insured. Those who do not have insurance will not be allowed to collect compensation for non-economic damages from other drivers who actually have insurance policies.

This can be a good idea, since there are cheap auto insurance quotes all over the market, and some people simply don’t want to purchase it even if it is against the law. The only way that uninsured drivers can file a lawsuit is when they pay large deductible (usually around $10,000). Only after that they can sue for property damage.
