Four Advantages of Deep Frying

Deep frying is a method of cooking that involves submerging food in deep oils or fats at high temperatures. There are several reasons why someone would want to use this method of cooking. First and foremost, it seals in the taste and tenderness of the food to help it maintain its flavor and moisture. Also you can cook food quickly in a deep fryer. The consensus on deep fried food is that it can be some of the most delicious and tender food you can eat. Restaurants love using deep frying because their customers love the food and they can churn out dishes quickly. Let’s look at the most common advantages of deep frying when compared to other methods of cooking.

1. Speed of Cooking

You can could food much faster with deep frying than you can with other methods. The basic laws of thermodynamics state that heat transfer between a hot liquid and solid food occurs much quicker than it does from heated air to a solid food. The larger and more dense the food you are cooking, the more you will see this effect realized. Let’s take a large, thirty pound Thanksgiving turkey for instance. To cook that in an oven, it would take eight hours. In a deep fryer, you can cut your cooking time down to an hour or less. So the time difference it takes to cook something in a deep fryer versus convention methods is significant.

2. Improved Taste of Food

Food that is cooked in a deep fryer always tastes better than food cooked on a stove or in the oven. This is because the surrounding fats or oils do a better job of sealing in the flavor during deep fry cooking. The oils and fats often add a delicious flavor themselves to the food during the cooking process.

3. More Tenderness of Food

This I think is the primary reason why people love to deep fry their foods. Foods that are overcooked in the oven tend to dry out, and eating food that is dry and overcooked is certainly an unpleasant experience, especially when you are looking forward to a tasty meal. With a deep fryer there is no worry of this occurring. If you happen to cook food in a deep fryer longer than necessary, it will still retain its moisture. You can be sure to have a tender meal when it is cooked in the deep fryer.

4. Makes Great Appetizers and Desserts

Deep frying is ideal for making a variety of foods in a style that is most appealing. When you go out to a restaurant and order an appetizer, you know what I’m talking about. Appetizers are what I usually look forward to the most when eating out. Chances are the appetizers you crave the most are deep fried. At home, you can cook a variety of foods and tasty treats with deep frying that you can’t with other methods. Here are some foods that are ideal for deep frying:

  • Friend fries
  • Onion rings
  • Cheese fritters
  • Mozzarella sticks
  • Fried fish sticks
  • Fried chicken tenders or cutlets
  • Scotch eggs
  • Fried zucchini disks
  • Potato chips
  • Doughnuts
  • Banana or pineapple fritters
  • Fried Mexican ice cream
  • Friend pastries

So these are the main advantages of using your deep fryer to do your cooking. If you want to cook food quicker that is more tender and has more flavor, than you should break out the old deep fryer or invest in a new one. Once you experience foods cooked in the deep fryer, it’s hard to go back to the other convention ways of cooking.

Electric Blankets – Things You Need to Know Before You Buy

Electric blankets are a type of blanket which is heated using electricity. The blankets are made in various soft materials such as fleece and cotton. On the inside of an electric blanket is heating wires, which attach to an electric cord that can be plugged into an outlet to generate warmth. Most electric blankets have controls which allow the user to adjust the warmth settings of the blanket to the desired temperature.

In addition to being extremely comfortable and cozy, electric blankets are also energy efficient. Because an electric blanket provides so much warmth, the more expensive central heating in the house can be turned down at night. This nightly reduction in the use of central heating saves on energy costs. Electric blankets have many positive benefits, but before you buy one, it is important to be aware of the safety measures involved with using these blankets and of how to properly care for the blanket.

Electric blankets are sold in the various standard bedding sizes. To keep the blanket in good condition, it is recommended that the size of the electric blanket corresponds with the size of the bed it is used on. An electric blanket which is too large and hangs off of the bed can get stuck in between walls, which can fold up the blanket and damage the heating wires inside the blanket.

Each electric blanket comes with different washing instructions, so it is important to read the manufacturers instructions before washing. If the instructions are not followed, the blanket could get damaged. Almost every electric blanket is not compatible with dry cleaning, as the chemicals used in dry cleaning can deteriorate the protective insulation around the wires, increasing the risk of fire.

To further reduce the risk of fire, the blanket should not have extra blankets or excessive pillows and stuffed animals on top of it which can trap heat. The blanket is meant to insulate the body, but if the heated blanket is insulated with other materials it can over heat and become a fire hazard.

It is also important to be safe and protect yourself from any potential harm when using an electric blanket. Electric blankets are safe to use if they are the only thing on the bed which is electrically heated. If electric blankets are used in combination with heating pads, the combined heat of the two can cause serious burns.

Because of the responsibilities involved, electric blankets are better suited for the use of adults rather than children. It is of utmost importance that an electric blanket is turned off upon getting out of bed, because if it is left on for too long it becomes a fire hazard. While adults may have an easier time remembering to do this, it is still easy to forget, especially for a child.

CNC Milling Machine Parts and Components

When you are looking for CNC milling machine parts and components there are a variety of places where you can find them. There are many Internet sites and the machines come in a variety of prices.

Depending on the type of machine you need the price can be steep but there are many small machines that can do the same job if you are looking at this as part of a small business or a hobby. Also, you can buy a machine to cut metal or wood, to do fancy scroll work or to do engraving on metals and other applications.

You can decide whether you will purchase a brand new machine or a used one. Most people do not suggest buying a used one because you aren’t sure what you are getting but buying other types of machines like CNC routers seem to be a good idea because of the cost.

All CNC Milling machines contain the following parts:

– Axis — depending on the type of CNC milling machine it could have anywhere from one to six axis which will also determine the size and what it is supposed to do.

– Column — the column is what travels along an axis that holds the part that mills or cuts.

– Control panel — the part that holds the computer keyboard (sometimes small, other times large) where you program the G-Codes into the machine.

– Cutting tool — the cutting tool is attached to the column and is the part that actually cuts the piece in the way that the operator specifies.

– Spindle — the spindle holds the cutting tool in place.

– Coolant supply tubes — these are the tubes where they coolant is pumped through in order to keep the metal cool and the cutting tool lubricated.

– Table — the table is the area that the workpiece will be attached to either using a clamp or a vacuum. This is where the workpiece will sit while being milled.

There are several different types of milling machines that can be found and they are small or large depending on what they do. Here are a few:

Vertical CNC mills have a vertical spindle axis. This means that the cutters that do the milling are held vertically in the spindle and they rotate on the spindle’s axis. In this type you can extend the spindle or the table to make drilling or plunge cuts. Bed mills and Turret mills fall into this category.

Horizontal CNC mills have the same type of table as vertical CNC mills but their cutters are mounted on an arbor that sits across the table horizontally.

Hobbyists will most likely use a box mill which is mounted to a bench and basically moves up and down. Knee mills have an x-y table and its moves up and down the column. It can be adjusted with what is called a vertically adjustable knee. Many larger industries use the C-Frame mill because it is the most conducive for larger work. They are only vertically mobile and it used a fixed spindle head for that movement.

What Is Shoring and How to Safely Shore Your Construction Project

In construction, shoring is the practice of bracing a structure using strong, temporary structures to avoid the collapse of materials or earth. An excavated trench is deep and narrow. The trench walls need to be stabilized with shoring materials in order to prevent accidents and protect workers. Shoring will also expedite the excavation process. However, it should be known that “shoring” is different from “shielding”. Shoring is propping up the structure to avoid the collapse of the earth, while “shielding” is the use of safety structures to protect workers in case of a collapse.

Below are some of different techniques utilized in trench shoring. Each technique is intended to safely stabilize the trench.

  1. Hydraulic Shoring: Hydraulic pistons are propped up until they push against the trench walls. Steel plates or plywood (either 1-1/8″ thick, or a the Finland Form {FINFORM} 7/8″ thick plywood) are used in collaboration with the pistons. This type of shoring expedites work and is the easiest method.
  2. Beam and Plate: The beams are planted firmly on the ground and reinforced with steel plates in between. Soldier boarding, which utilizes wood planks, also uses the same mechanism. This type of shoring is usually utilized for large excavations or for excavations that will span a long duration of time.
  3. Soil Nailing: Steel reinforcing bars and other strong, elongated bars are inserted into pre-drilled holes and sealed with a binding material (grout), or drilled and grouted at the same time in order to hold soil slopes, walls, or excavations. They are planted in a semi-downward incline, creating no tension. Sprayed concrete or lone soil nail heads are usually used as flexible or stiff facing.
  4. Continuous Flight Augering: Continuous Flight Augering (CFA) is the process of using concrete piles to support soil in an excavation site. A hole is created using a CFA drill, and pressure is used to introduce the concrete through the shaft when the auger is removed. No hole is retained, as a connected pile is being made.

Safe shoring practices are necessary to prevent trenching accidents. Standards are set by the OSHA to ensure that these proper practices are adhered to. OSHA standards are to be followed by all employees, with no exceptions. On any job site, there should be one person specifically responsible for implementing safety rules, but compliance with these rules is everyone’s responsibility. This person is known as the Competent Person. The Competent Person, by OSHA standards, is the worker who must check the trench site and adjacent sites for safety at least once a day. He or she is responsible for inspecting the site for a variety of factors that will determine the protective system to be used. Among the factors that the Competent Person must consider are:

  • Soil classification – the Competent Person needs to identify correctly the type of soil to decide the kind of protection to utilize. Sometimes, more than one soil type can be encountered at a site.
  • Other factors – water content in soil, the cut depth, changes in weather or climate, other operations occurring in the work site.

General safety rules should be implemented and followed, not only by the Competent Person, but by everyone on the job site. Each worker should be aware of his or her responsibilities at all times and should not be afraid to ask a supervisor or the Competent Person for clarification, if necessary. It is better to ask than to assume when in doubt.

Proper use of safety equipment should be emphasized at all times on any job site. Workers should always use proper eye and ear protection, as well as respirators, fall protection equipment, safety boots or shoes, and a hard hats as required by OSHA regulations. For excavations near road traffic, workers should wear bright vests so that they will be visible to passing cars. When shoring, always make sure that the trench walls are reinforced heavily and securely utilizing one of the above methods. In emergency situations, always follow OSHA regulations.

Shoring involves a certain degree of risk, but by following safety rules at all times, accidents can be prevented, and trench work can be completed safely and efficiently.

How to Teach This and That, These and Those

A teacher asked me today how to teach this and that, these and those. Teaching this and that, these and those is easy and fun. You need plenty of real objects to hand to demonstrate the concepts of singular and plural and also distance.

Start by introducing the meaning of this and that by demonstration with real objects. Don’t move on to plurals right away, teach in stages so your students don’t have too much to take on at once.

TEACHING THIS AND THAT

The main concept here is distance. This is close and that is far. Demonstrate this using real objects around you. Use only vocabulary the students already know, which is useful revision, so that only the words “this” and “that” are new. Point at a chair that is close to you, stand right next to it and touch it. Point to a chair that is far away saying “that chair”. Switch to this pen and that pen. This shoe and that shoe. This nose and that nose. This window and that window. Go through pencil case items, items on the desks, furniture in the room, posters on the walls, clothing and body parts. Those are all things you are likely to have around you. Each time you say “this” make sure you are TOUCHING the item to make it clear you are close. And each time you say “that” make sure you are quite far away to demonstrate the distance.

Call out “this pen” and have students hold up a pen and point at it, the one in their hand and say “this pen”. Call out “that door” and have students point to the door and say “that door”. Continue like this until most of the students have become quite good at it. As students improve switch faster and faster between different objects.

Students follow you pointing at the correct objects either near or far. They will find it fun as long as you move along at a good pace and don’t drag it out. Start with “this pen, that pen”, “this book, that book”, “this shoe, that shoe”. Then mix up the nouns: “this shoe, that book, this nose, that shirt, that nose, that door, this eye”. Bring up your best students and let them call things out to the class. That challenges them as they have to think of things for the others to point to which prevents them from becoming bored in the lesson if they are better than the others.

Make it more complicated if the students are doing very well by adding in adjectives such as “this red book, that blue shirt”.

Introduce these and those in the same way.

Put the children in pairs now and call out “this pen” and “these pens”. The students put their pens together so they are close and point at them. For “those pens” all students hold their pens together while pointing at someone else’s pens. It will be fun when you do “these noses” and “those legs” and so on because students have to move to get the objects really close. Obviously you have to gauge if getting close to someone else’s nose is appropriate for your class – the adults will not enjoy it but most children will find it fun. Adults can gesture without touching.

Play music while children pass pens and books around the classroom. When the music stops call out “these pens” and any children with a pen jump up and move over to someone else with a pen to show “these pens”. Play the music again and call out “those books”. Any students with books jump up, put at least two books together, and everyone points to them from a distance. Play the music, students pass their objects. Stop the music and call out “these eyes” – ALL students must point at their eyes. And so on.

All the best

Modern Warfare – The Main Types

The history of the world is defined by the battles led by mankind. People fight in order to protect their resources or to conquer the ones of other nations. Generally, the concept of total war is used to describe the military conflicts between entire states up until the Second World War. The term modern warfare refers to military methods as well as tactics and technologies used after this war. There are many and different types of fighting concepts used in the today’s world.

Ground or land warfare has been losing its importance in parallel with the development of technologies. The use of armor fighting vehicles and artillery weapons allows for more effective and more destructive strategies. At the same time these innovations allow for the reduction of casualties to the very minimum.

Naval modern warfare is extremely diverse and well developed. The action usually takes place in deep waters as further away from coastal territories as possible. Apart from the submarines and the destroyers the aircraft carriers are also vital for the success in any battle by giving more attack and operational options.

Nuclear warfare is another type that should be noted. Most nations today realize the high destructive power of such weapons. Constant efforts are being made for their use to be as limited as possible.

Asymmetric warfare refers to strategies based on the use of the strengths and weakness of the enemy. Often the tactics are outside of the conventional and include terrorist ones. It is worth pointing out that this type of combat does not have much in common with guerrilla fighting. However, it is closely related to fourth generation warfare which involves the use of unconventional tactics adopted by all sorts of groups including civilians in all sorts of situations including peaceful ones.

Other notable types of modern warfare include chemical and biological one. It is worth pointing out that special psychological and propaganda strategies are also heavily used.

Wood Blinds – How to Order Your Valance With Returns For Your Inside Mount Blind

You want inside mount 2 inch wood blinds but your window opening isn’t very deep. Your blind will stick out a little but your okay with that. So you measure, place your order, and install yourself and save a lot of money. So far so good, your 2 inch wood blinds look great just like you imagined, but when you look at the blind from the side, the bracket is exposed at the top. Looks unfinished. So what can you do about this? In this article, I will tell you how to get a nice, clean, finished look, so your valance wraps around at the ends.

The problem is, when you order a inside mount 2 inch wood blind or any other wood blind, the valance will have a straight cut at both ends. This allows the blind and valance to be completely recessed in your opening. But if you don’t have enough depth, it sticks out a little leaving the hardware exposed.

Here’s what you can do to fix it. You can pay for a decorator or and installer to figure out a return size or save your money and keep reading. Okay what we need to do is order a outside mount valance for your inside mount 2 inch wood blind. There is a little bit of figuring involved. I’ll walk you through the Steps.

Step 1.Need to figure the depth or your bracket. 99% of all wood blind brackets I have installed are 2 3/4. That is pretty standard.

Step 2.Know the thickness of your valance clip is going to be about 1/2 thick. Pretty standard as well.

Step 3.Add Step one and two together, 2 3/4 + 1/2 = 3 1/4.

Step 4.Measure the depth of your window opening, for example say it is 1 1/2.

Step 5.Subtract line four from line 3, 3 1/4 – 1 1/2 = 1 3/4.

Step 6.Your return size is 1 3/4.

Step 7.Since we are ordering a outside mount valance with an inside mount blind, you have to specify the valance width. Just add 1 inch to the width of your blind. For example, if your ordering your blind at 35 inches wide. Then order your valance at 36 inches wide.

Step 8.If ordering your blind online (save money) you would entered this information under special instructions, usually found as one of the last Steps before submitting your order. Here is what it should look like. Please send outside mount valance 36 inches wide with 1 1/2 inch returns.

Follow these Steps and your valance on your 2 inch wood blinds, or any other wood blind and you will have returns on the ends. Now you have a professional finished look. Good Luck!

How to Make Homemade Guinea Pig Toys

Guinea pigs are very social, playful animals. They require daily attention and care. It is necessary to provide them with a wide variety of toys for them to play with when they are lonely or bored. Here is a list of exciting homemade toys that your pet will love.

Socks– Everybody has at least a few pair-less socks that are lying around somewhere. Good toys to make with these socks are:

Sock pillows: Fill an old sock with hay and tie the end off. My guinea pig loves to drag these around.

Play-Socks: Find a holey sock and put it in your pets cage. He will likely run into it and stick his nose out of the holes.

Sock Stacks: Simply stack a huge pile of socks in your guinea pigs habitat. Watch they climb up and jump down. Geronimo!

Sock Hammock: Much like the popular ferret’s toy, this is just a little hanging bed. To make, cut open a sock so that it is in the shape of a square. Using a hole puncher, make four openings in the corners of the sock. Tie four separate pieces of string on the corners, then join them at the top by tying them together. Attach to the top of the cage so that the bed hangs two or three inches off of the ground.

Seed Sock: Tie up a sock as you would if you were making a sock pillow. But instead of filling it with hay, fill it with seeds. Tie the sock to the top of the habitat and cut a very small hole at the bottom of the sock (the hole should be slightly larger than the seeds inside the sock). Now your pig can pull seeds out of the sock if he gets desires a crunchy treat.

Tennis Sock: Put a tennis ball in a sock without holes and tie off. He will drag it around and even toss it. Replace the sock if it rips (unless you want the ball rolling around).

Boxes N’ Bags– Guinea pigs love these to hide and play in! Your guinea pig will love these.

Boxes: You can put a plain box in the cage, or a box with out a bottom. You can stack them to build a castle, or cut them up to make a fort. You can even tape them together to make multi-level houses! Guinea pigs love boxes, so be sure to give yours some to play in.

Paper Bags: My guinea pig absolutely LOVES paper bags, and will amuse himself for hours playing in such a simple toy. I think he just likes the way that it crinkles.

Towels– These are good as make-shift beds, forts (if you hang them up in the corners of the cage), blankets, and even separators, if you want to have a wall in-between parts of the cage.

Little things for guinea pigs to roll, toss, drag, sit on/in, and look at-

Crumpled up newspaper, cat toys with bells, tennis balls, little bowls/containers (like butter tubs or lunch meat containers), mirrors, small stuffed animals, plain wooden blocks (without sealants-just plain old dull blocks), bricks (stack them), toilet paper tubes, and tissues. Tissues are my guinea pigs favorite food group.

Have fun!

Do You Need a Class 2 or a Class II LED Driver?

You have learned that it is preferable to use the Class 2 LED driver in the LED signage and lighting applications in order to better manage and limit the potential risk of electric shock hazard in installing and operating the devices. However, many people confuse the class 2 (Numeric “2”) with the class II (Roman Numeral “II”) power supply. They are both valid standards, controlled by different organizations, but they are meant to provide different protections in different methods. Here is a brief explanation of each designation to help you distinguishing between the two.

Class 2: Class 2 power supplies are governed by UL (Underwriters Laboratories) 1310 standard. The main focus of UL-1310 is to ensure the output from each channel of the power supply cannot exceed 100 Watts (or five times output voltage if is it is lower than 20V) in any given circumstances, such as the rated working temperature, start-up or shut down process and the faulty conditions. UL-1310 is applied to oversee the Class 2 LED driver as well. If you are a US domestic LED sign or lighting application builder, you need a Class 2 LED driver, not a Class II power supply.

Class II: Class I and Class II are both specified in the EN-60950 (the European standard). The former requires a ground connection – usually done by using the 3-prong AC input, established, so the extra current generated in the fault condition can be quickly shunt to ground without damaging the property or the operator. The latter calls for a double insulation on the primary and the secondary side of the power supply if the ground connection is missing. Class II power supplies are typically used in the telecommunication industry. You can find it resides in many consumer electronics products, such as the Digital Video Recorder, network switch and wireless router.

Conclusion:

If your signage or lighting application is made up of LED related illumination technology, be sure to employ a Class 2 LED driver to power your system. A Class 2 LED driver can consist of several output channels but the maximum output power of each channel won’t exceed 100 watts. By limiting the absolute maximum output power to the UL predefined level – 100 watts, the Class 2 LED driver can reduce the chance of producing excessive out-going current, over-heating the cables and creating an electric shock hazard. Thus, it can support a safer installation and operation experience for your applications.

Save a Watt, Save a Lot With Energy Efficient Lighting Solutions

We all know that energy efficient lightbulbs help to protect the environment, and over the course of a few years they can also help your bank balance too, however when seeking money saving solutions that offer to save us hundreds of pounds on our utility bills, the lights are usually the last thing on our minds.

We will happily fork out for solar panels and ways to heat the home economically but many of us consider the few pence we save on wattage with lightbulbs to be lower down on the priority list.

Not only this but many energy efficient lighting solutions aren’t really solutions at all, as we swap the sixty watts for a pearlescent twist of a bulb we feel as though we are being rationed on luminescence. The lights take an age to flicker to life and when they do we find that although the glow is flattering, its simply quite depressing.

It’s a Blinking Conspiracy!

There are conspiracy theories around the new laws that sweep the sixty watt sunshine from the shelves as radicals do believe the government are lulling us into a subdued state in order to diminish our resolve, yet for those of us who enjoy a little light in our lives there are energy efficient lighting solutions that don’t take the shine out of everyday living.

The solutions promise to light up your home, your office, your factory or workplace in the flick of a switch, in fact surveys were carried out and not one person could tell the difference. So luminous are these bulbs that it’s amazing that they save money, and a normal family of five could see savings of hundreds of pounds.

That’s not all, consider the cost of lighting a factory with fluorescent strip lights, where the cost mounts and mounts quicker than workers can pull the products from the line. These same energy saving solutions save these huge companies massive amounts mounting to thousands of pounds off their business electricity bill.

It’s Light Jim, But Not as We Know It!

Using LEDs these lighting solutions are well ahead of their time, as not only do they save up to 90% on energy they are also simple to maintain. The lifespan is on average six times longer than their dull counterparts and with no annoying humming, flickering or radiation; mental and physical health improves too.

Many worry about the radiation scare of the energy saving light bulbs on offer, as apparently radiation leaks if ever a crack forms in the bulb. Some also swear that this form of radioactivity also penetrates bodies when the bulb is fully intact. LED lights however do not emit any radiation at all, and they’re a lot brighter than the tiny bulbs we remember from our craft and design lessons at school. This advancement in modern technology allows up to 75000 hours of light, no mean feat as this is almost a decade of light!

If you’re serious about saving the environment, these will also ease your conscience, with less carbon emissions; your footprint will drastically reduce turning your home or business into a lean green lighting machine!

Racket Feelings in Transactional Analysis

You surely have met people who tend to have emotional responses that seem unfit for the situation: someone who cries when you’d expect them to be angry or gets angry when sadness would seem appropriate, someone who always looks and feels alarmed – regardless of what’s going on, someone who starts laughing when talking about a painful or scary experience. And this happens so often that it somehow becomes the new normal.

Before getting into the T.A. talk, however, let’s make ourselves comfortable by setting up the scene.

If asked to make a list of human emotions, the answer will vary greatly. And that isn’t because there are so many emotions, but because we all see and feel things slightly differently. And even the smallest difference will have an impact on how we perceive emotions. In spite of that, however, a number of studies have determined that there are only 4 basic human emotions: happiness, fear/surprise, sadness and anger/disgust. All the others are simply “degrees” of these basic four.

The four basic feelings

  • Faced with a threat, people feel FEAR, and they react by freezing or running.
  • When confronted with a barrier that stops them from reaching their goal, they feel ANGER, which energizes them in attacking and destroying the barrier.
  • Positive events (or thoughts / memories / anticipation of success / etc.) make people feel HAPPINESS, which offers a physical sensation of well-being, calm, satisfaction.
  • When people suffer a loss, they feel SADNESS, which leads to holding on or letting go.

There is no such thing as a negative feeling, since we can clearly see how all 4 emotions have their purpose in our lives. They are our way of responding adequately to the current situation and we use them in problem-solving. If we were to start laughing and jumping around full of joy when an angry bear is approaching us, that wouldn’t be either helpful or appropriate.

It all seems pretty easy, right? This is where the “racket feelings” come in, though.

According to Transactional Analysis theories, feelings fall into 2 categories: authentic feelings and “racket feelings”. We just covered the first one by showing how authentic feelings are useful, adaptive responses to the situation. So let’s see what these “racket feelings” are all about.

We often hear parents telling children off for crying, getting angry or being too much of a “scaredy-cat”. We sometimes hear children getting scolded for being “too happy and hyper”. While it’s true that all children learn what emotional responses are appropriate for what situations from their parents, prohibiting a certain feeling frequently will teach the child that the feeling is not allowed. What’s more, most parents who scold the child for expressing a feeling X will usually praise them for exhibiting a feeling Y.

Example

Max is a rather shy and fearful child because other kids in school bully him every day. He enjoys playing inside and drawing trees. His parents are concerned for him, so they often fight about their son staying inside all day long and not having friends. They constantly tell him that he should go out more and socialize. They look worried and upset.

Max doesn’t like seeing his parents like that, and he hates hearing them fight, so he decides to go out and make some friends and he immediately notices how happy his parents are now and how many positive strokes he receives ( what were strokes again? ). So he forces himself to get over his anxieties, makes some new friends and soon becomes one of the bullies, a boy who isn’t scared of anything and who will often involve himself in risky situations.

Growing up, all his acquaintances immediately label him as being “the brave one”, a man who isn’t scared of anything. But is he really never scared of anything? That can’t be.

A “racket feeling”, as we’ve seen in the example, is a feeling that the child learns as being acceptable and/or desired, which he then uses to replace the authentic feeling, in order to gain the acceptance of his parents (or any other parental figure). And in this way the child grown up learning that it’s never OK to show anger / fear / sadness / happiness. So he doesn’t. He shows what he was told he should, and in time he gets so used to it that he doesn’t even feel the authentic emotion anymore.

He grows up “knowing” unconsciously that it’s not OK to show one or more emotions, and that people will reject him if he does. Since the lesson is such an early one and its roots are so deeply implanted into his whole being, he won’t easily think of checking the reality of things. Quite the opposite, actually.

People need the world to make sense, and it all starts in childhood. So growing up we search for things and situations that will keep our internal world together, and we avoid things that could take away the sense and meaning we created. This happens in regard to our feelings, as well. We don’t search for proof that our life beliefs are wrong, we seek for situations that will prove everything we know is right – which then reinforces our beliefs and things go on like this forever. Stopping this cycle and changing something inside it is a darn tough job.

And why would we?

The problem with keeping these feelings distorted as they are is that they don’t provide useful problem-solving mechanisms, which means that in time we become more and more overwhelmed by the authentic repressed emotions. We’re not aware of them, so we simply feel the racket feeling more and more and, when this keeps on failing in helping us in any way, we can’t function properly anymore. The results vary from person to person, but they could be anything from depression to manic episodes.

OK, so how do we fix this?

First of all, forget everything you know about beliefs like “boys don’t cry” and “girls are weak”. While there is no single answer, “fixing this” takes time and patience to re-learn what the adequate feelings are for certain situations, testing reality, getting more and more in contact with the authentic feelings and expressing them. The most important thing to know is that it is OK and normal to feel all the emotions you are feeling. There is nothing wrong with you for feeling angry, scared, sad or even happy. And people around you won’t disappear or leave just because you’re feeling and showing your emotions in an authentic and OK way.

What do you think about these racket feelings? Did you notice such things in your life or the lives of those around you?

Personal Property Identification

Why mark your personal property? What is the best method for marking your property? Why should you have a detailed inventory of your property? In this article I will answer these questions giving you the knowledge you need to be properly prepared.

Why mark your personal property?

·         In the unfortunate circumstance that your property is stolen it would allow police officers, pawn shop owners, and others to identify and return your stolen property to you quickly and effectively. Always mark items with your name and driver’s license number; phone numbers change and take longer to track than driver’s license numbers.

Why keep a detailed inventory of your property, and what to inventory?

·         Why keep a detailed inventory of your property, for any insurance claims you may have; whether it is due to your property being stolen or by a natural disaster it will help you to identify what is missing or damaged. Always record the make and model numbers, serial numbers, and detailed descriptions of each item.

·         Inside the house: Firearms, televisions , stereo and video equipment, computers and MP3 players, cameras, expensive kitchen appliance, expensive clothing, furniture, musical instruments and equipment, sporting goods items, jewelry, watches and clocks.

  • Outside the house: Power and hand tools, power actuated equipment like lawn mowers, weed eaters, chain saws, garden tools, trailers, bikes, go carts, etc.

Best methods:

·         The invisible ink pen with UV light was specifically designed to identify your property. It is an affordable and easy way to mark all your valuable property discretely without causing harm to them. One pen is capable of marking over 1200 valuables. With a UV light you may read the markings.

·         An engraving tool is a great way to mark your property and makes it easily identifiable. The one downside is it is highly visible possible hurting the value of the collectables and other fine items. There are some advantages as well; marking your tools can keep thefts from stealing them off job sites and engravers typically last for several years and thousands of markings.

Conclusion:

By taking the steps to inventory and mark you property you are prepared if your home is broken into or worst some sort of event takes place like: floods, tornadoes, or fires. Engraving property is great for certain items; however for other valuables it is damaging. That’s why I prefer the invisible ink pen to perform these tasks. Remember the best time to learn your lesson about being prepared is before something happens.
