Priming the Sales Applicant Pump

I spend much of my time working with companies to help them identify and hire the right sales talent for their company. One of the biggest frustrations that I hear from my clients is that they struggle to get people to apply for their jobs. Thus, they feel they have to settle for the few candidates they get and make a hiring decision. In essence, they risk hiring the wrong person for the wrong reason. From the client’s perspective, they see no other choice. They have a seat to fill and must select from the small pool of sales candidates.

When I hear this, I ask to see the ad that they are using on the job boards and in print. And, oh my! The root cause of the problem is quickly exposed. Somewhere along the way, a practice has been developed of using a job description as a job advertisement. Sadly, these are not synonyms, nor are they designed for the same purpose. This is the equivalent of trying to hammer a screw into a wall. It’s not the right tool for the job. A job description is the spec sheet for the job. There is no flair, just information. A job advertisement should primarily be flair!

I came across a sales job advertisement that said that accurate forecasting was required. I can appreciate the importance of accurate forecasting, but is that going to entice someone to send in a resume? I highly doubt it. Then, why do I see that in job ads all over the Net? Not only is it superfluous, but it could create a negative impression on a potential sales candidate such as the illusion of there being much sales administrivia, a bugaboo among sales professionals. As a result, they don’t apply for your job.

My favorite non-sense expression in a job ad is “other duties as assigned.” Again, I understand the importance of having that identified in a job description as an all encompassing expression, but in an ad? I know when I’ve looked for a job I couldn’t wait to apply for the ones that offered that as a benefit.

The bottom line is that the sole purpose of a job advertisement is to attract people to apply for the job. I know that seems obvious, but many miss that point. Since that is the sole purpose, then the ad should be structured in a way to accomplish that objective. There is an old expression is sales that says to sell the sizzle, not the steak. In sales, it means to focus the discussion on the benefits, not the features of the product. When designing a job advertisement, it means that the ad should excite, not completely inform.

In sales industries where leads are generated for sales people, the lead is structured to provide just enough information for a prospect to call a sales person. The ad does not include all of the information so that the person can make a buy/no buy decision without making the call. The same holds true for recruiting. The ad should attract candidates to apply. The resume review and interview process screens out the undesired candidates.

In some respects, this issue is about control. Not to belabor the contrast with sales, but sales people are trained to control the buying process. They learn to facilitate buying discussions with potential buyers and control when and how information is shared. When advertizing a job, the more information that is placed in the ad, the more control the candidate has to make an apply/no apply decision without ever talking with your company. Thus, you want enough information in the ad to entice them to apply for the job, nothing more. Once you have the application, you are then in control of the process and get to make the pursue/no pursue decision.

In my mind, there are three types of candidates out there. There are those that apply for every sales job they can find. Chances are these are not your rock stars. They just want a job, not your job. There are those that are what I refer to as “semi-passive.” These are sales people that have their pinky toe in the “new job opportunity waters.” They haven’t made the definitive decision to pursue another opportunity, but would be receptive if they came across one to their liking. The third are the passive candidates, those that are not even thinking about another opportunity at this time.

Thus, the ad should be designed to attract the semi-passive candidates. The passive ones probably won’t see the ad because they aren’t looking for a job. One industry that you can learn much about recruiting semi-passive candidates is supermarket retailers. Man, they have it down to a science! Everything that you see on the shelves has been placed there with the consult of psychologists. They have gotten inside the minds of buyers and structured the store so that they increase their average check out order. For example, milk is almost always in the very back of the store because it is a necessity. You are going to buy it because you need it. Other items are placed strategically around the store so a semi-passive buyer will be enticed to pick it up and put it in their cart. How often do you go to the market and buy only what you intended to buy? Rarely.

With that in mind, where do you start when developing your ad to attract these “semi-passive” sales people to apply to your company? For starters, how about interviewing your current sales team members? Ask them what attracted them to the company and what keeps them there. You will be surprised by the valuable information you will learn.

With that information, visit with your marketing department and ask for their assistance in designing an ad that will attract sales candidates to apply. If you can provide them with the mission of the program and the data learned from the sales organization discussions, I’ll bet that they can develop an ad with super sizzle! Remember, this is a marketing person’s area of expertise so leverage it.

The goal of this exercise is to grow your candidate pool so you don’t have to settle for the wrong candidates just to fill a seat.

Low Back Pain When Leaning Backwards

There are many, many diagnoses available for those suffering with low back pain, and they can all present with very similar signs & symptoms. One such symptom is pain when leaning backwards. Two typical examples for this type of pain, which would dictate completely different treatment procedures, would be facet joint pain and a disc bulge.

If facet joint pain is your problem, this would be due to the joints in your back being ‘forced against’ one another as you lean backwards. The aim of treatment here would be to elicit any muscle imbalance about your lower back and look to stretch and strengthen as appropriate. In addition to this, gently mobilising the joints will also help to take some stress from them, therefore encouraging the healing process. A simple exercise to get you started may be lying on you back and then gently hugging your knees to your chest.

Alternatively, if it is a disc bulge which is causing your pain, this is likely to be a result of the disc being ‘pinched’ as you lean backwards, therefore causing you pain. The irony of it is, if this is the case, some kind of extension (leaning backwards) exercise will form the basis of your treatment. This is likely to begin with you simply lying on your stomach little and often throughout the day. From here, you may well progress to gentle extension exercises while lying on your front.

The important thing to note here is, what may appear to be similar problems due to them both causing pain when leaning backwards, will actually need completely different treatment techniques to resolve the problem.

If you were to perform the exercises intended for a facet joint problem on a disc bulge, or vice versa for that matter, you will only succeed in making your pain worse.

No treatment or exercise programme should make your pain worse, if it does, something needs to be changed. It maybe you are performing the correct exercises, but are just being a bit to vigorous to begin with. However, it may also be that you are simply performing the incorrect exercises for your problem.

Either way, if things are making your pain worse, you need to change what you are doing, either by easing off or trying a different exercise altogether.

How to Determine Your Wealth Luck by Just Looking at Your Face

I believe this is going to be a very interesting topic. Did you know that you can determine your wealth luck by just looking at yourself in the mirror. There is one area on your face which determines your wealth luck. You would always want to keep this place nice and clean in order to have great wealth luck.

By simply looking at this area of your face, you can easily tell whether you will gain or lose money. For some people, they might have a permanent financial problems. For others, the crisis might be just temporal. The good news is no matter what is your financial status now, by the end of this article, you will be armed with the knowledge of improving your wealth luck by working on your face.

Rich people have one thing in common when you look at their faces. If you have this feature on your face, you might be a wealthy person, or someone who is on the way to being wealthy. It is their noses. The first thing you notice is that when you look at them straight (meaning they never tilt their head upwards or downwards) in the face, you are unable to see their nostrils.

Secondly, you can see flesh in between their nostrils. And usually that piece of flesh grows slightly downwards. These 2 permanent features are common in all wealthy people. At this point of time, you might be wondering, am I referring to the nose?Is the nose the area on your face that determines your wealth luck?

The answer is yes.

Now, I can see you rushing to the mirror to look at your nose. So what happens if you can see your nostrils when you look at yourself straight? This means that your wealth luck is not very stable. You may find that money seems to “disappear” from you very fast, without you knowing where it went. It could mean easy come, easy go.

If your nostrils are visible when looking at yourself straight in the mirror, you should never gamble or speculate. If not, you will have a tendency to lose money. However, if you are a male, I have some good news for you. You can still improve your wealth luck by growing a moustache. The moustache will “prevent” the money from flowing away from you.

The next 2 points are very important for “wealth” maintenance. When you look at yourself in the mirror every morning, please make sure you look at your nose. Firstly, see is there any nose hair growing out of your nostrils.

If you see nose hair, it means that you might lose some money within 1 to 7 days. Please cut your nose hair as soon as you see it. This is very important. It has happened to me many times, and I make it a point to cut my nose hair even before it grows too long.

The next thing you should look at is pimples and black heads. Pimples and black heads on your nose should be removed immediately upon discovery. These 2 things will also cause your wealth luck to be done. Remove them, but don’t squeeze them. You don’t want to leave a permanent scar on your nose. This will permanently affect your wealth luck.

Last but not least, if your nose is oily, please try to wash it frequently with water. Oily noses will also affect wealth luck.

If you have any scars or pimple marks on your nose, you might want to go for some facial treatment to remove them. You see, this is not just to beautify yourself, but it is an investment in your wealth luck. I wish you all the best in improving your wealth luck.

Choosing the Right Tractor Tire Chains

Tractor tire chains come in many of the same models, styles, and designs as other tire chains. Depending on the size and brand of the tractor and tractor wheel, a variety of tire chains can be found.

Like most other types of tire chains, there are many different options available in tractor tire chains. The most popular choice, and the most widely recommended, is two-link spacing with an optional V-Bar. Two link spacing means that there is a cross chain every second side chain link. Basically, it has twice as many cross chains as the four-link spacing, which only has a cross chain every fourth side chain link. The extra chains provide for a more steady, smooth ride and more steering control. The optional V-Bar chains are extremely helpful on ice, hills, and other hard-packed conditions. While V-Bar chains are available in both two- and four-link spacing, they should not be used on pavement since they can damage the surface of the road.

Kubota Tractor tire chains are available in the basic two- and four-link chains. Kubota recommends using tire chains and wheel weights in icy conditions. Even when using tire chains, drivers should still drive at a speed slow enough to maintain complete control of the tractor at all times.

For farm tractors, dealers recommend duo-group cross tire chains. These chains are not connected in the middle, so the pattern does not fall between the tread bars. Duo-group cross chains are recommended for field work, deep tread, off road use, and hilly conditions, making them the perfect choice for farm tractor tire chains.

Why I Hate Epiphone Guitars Review

Consider this my blanket review of all Epiphone guitars in general. I go to Guitar Center a lot. Usually it’s just to check out a bunch of guitars through different amps. I bought one guitar there, and I buy them online sometimes too. About a year ago I found a cool deal on Musicians Friend on a Epiphone Dot Studio guitar. The Dot Studio is basically a budget version of the very expensive and legendary ES335 (several thousands of dollars). This guitar was awesome! It was black on black, and those humbuckers just screamed through my Marshall! It had lots of tone, and was very light (which is great on stage). I loved that guitar…for awhile.

After I gigged it out a few times, the bridge volume know fell inside the body cavity, held on by only the volume knob itself. The nut had come loose. I popped off the volume knob while holding on to the pot pliers, tightened up the nut, and that was that. I tightened up all the other volume and tone knobs too. This was the first time I began to feel like Epiphone was a really low quality guitar. I’d never seen a brand new guitar, direct from the factory with loose volume knobs. In fact, I’d never owned a guitar for years where the volume knobs got loose on their own.

So I gigged this black Dot Studio out like 6 or 7 times. I noticed one night that the input jack nut was coming loose. I tightened it up by hand and all was well for the night. But that made me take notice of the input jack from that point forward. I always checked at home and before gigs….and ended up hand tightening it all the time. It was as terrible pain, and I don’t know why they didn’t install a locknut or lock washer at the factory. Long story short, it had to be tightened so many times that it caused one of the wires attached internally to the input jack to start to short out, and eventually just fall off. I ended up buying an AllParts input jack new at Guitar Center and soldering it back in myself. The guitar was ok…..for awhile.

On stage I switch from bridge to neck pickup a lot depending on the song. I started to notice at first a crackle, and then sometimes just cutting out going from neck to bridge. I would have to switch it back once or twice before it kicked in. I’ve never had problems like that before on a new guitar – that told me it was a cheap input jack. I had already noticed when I soldered in the new input jack how thin the internal wiring of the guitar was (compared to others I had taken apart). Problems with the wiring, and the switch dragged on for months. When I installed the new input jack I had put a few dots of gorilla glue at the edge of the nut to keep it from coming loose again. Eventually I sold the guitar when I had owned it just under a year. I ended up buying the Ibanez Artcore I play as my main guitar now in it’s place.

I have not had a single problem with the Ibanez that I had with the Epiphone, and it has the input jack on the tail just like the Epiphone did. And I can see inside the F-holes of the guitar that the wiring is significantly thicker than it was on the Epiphone. My only complaint with the Artcore is that the pickups aren’t nearly as biting or clear as they were on that Dot Studio. I have a friend that loves Epiphones. He’s tried to tell me that maybe the one I had was just a lemon. I disagree. I have played dozens of Epiphones in 3 different guitar centers and various music shops. Each and ever one has had loose knobs and or input jack. Also, the setup and quality is very hit or miss.

Here’s a prime example. I went to Guitar Center today and played several instruments. I saw this one guitar that was stunning from afar. It has natual laquer and wood, beautiful finish, semi-hollow body 335 type guitar. As I got up on it I saw it was indeed an Epiphone Dot Studio. Being a glutton for punishment I picked it off the rack and plugged it in. It played nice. In face it screamed, and was full of tone. And in this newer model, the input jack had been moved from the tail to the top just right of the bridge. The input jack was tight. I tuned it up and played. Nice action, nice feeling neck, even the toggle switch for neck and bridge was a newer kind and seemed better. Then I switched from neck to bridge and went to turn the volume up for that pickup…and it turned around, and around, and around, and around. The nut had become loose and fallen off that volume. I check the others, and they were also indeed loose.

I played a flame top Epiphone Les Paul last weekend, and it’s input jack and volume knobs were loose (and the action was terrible). I played two Dot Studios that were on clearance and the action was way off the fingerboard, and one had a blemish on the headstock. Loose volume knobs as well. The wost was 2 months ago when I was very interested in getting an SG. SG’s are very expensive, so I of course checked out the Epiphone SG’s (I know – idiot, duh!). They had this one that was white with gold hardware, triple humbucker. Beautiful guitar…nice action, good setup – I liked it a lot. It was on clearance for $340 – a bargain (so I thought!). I plugged it in and tried the neck pickup – nice! I switched to bridge, and no sound! I turned every volume and tone knob on 10 – still no sound! The mid pickup switch was the same. This guitar only had volue on the neck pickup! I thought this guitar was so nice, that I was willing to get it fixed if need be. I took it over to the department manager looking for a deal. He said “no way – it’s already on clearance”. I said “but wait, it’s broken – the wiring is bad and you’re selling is as ‘new’!”. He wasn’t willing to budge one iota on the price. They also weren’t willing to fix it, I had to buy the guitar AND PAY FOR the repair! I was pissed and ended up not buying the guitar. I don’t care if it was clearance or not – they didn’t even know the wiring was bad until I brought it up to them! How can you sell something as brand new that’s broken, and not be willing to send it back to the factory?

See a pattern here? Every Epihpone I pick up in any store, any make or model has a problem or a blemish. The quality is so low, I would never again take one (without gutting it) as a stage guitar. If they can’t even make sure the hardware is tight and the electrical connections are good, and spend an extra $2.50 on a quality switch and input jack – I am not interested in buying an Epiphone guitar EVER AGAIN!! The ONLY way I would consider it would be if it were on extreme clearance (less than $300), and I was going to have it rewired with new knobs, switch, and input jack! If you are considering an Epiphone guitar – BUYER BEWARE!! Look for the things I have pointed out. You will get much more for your money if you take a look at other mid-range priced guitars from Fender, Ibanez, Jackson, Paul Reed Smith (the LTD line), ESP, Dean, or others. I will be reviewing many of these guitars in the future to give you as much information as possible!

Northern Ireland: "The Troubles" and Some Possible Solutions

The small country of Northern Ireland has occupied a large part of the global headlines during the last 40 years. The “Troubles” in Northern Ireland trace their roots back to the Protestant Ascendancy of the 17th century, but they still exert a considerable influence on the contemporary landscape of the country and the political climate of the United Kingdom.

The current-day problems that are seen in N. Ireland can be viewed as a result of the historical context within which the country itself was formed. The religious basis of the disagreements was fueled largely by the Protestant Ascendency, which began in 1690. William of Orange, who was himself a Protestant, succeeded in driving James II, a Catholic, from the English throne. History knows this event as the Glorious Revolution. Once William had gained the throne, he established a large group of his Protestant allies in positions of authority in the traditionally Catholic country of Ireland.

This Protestant group used its power in order to subjugate and discriminate against the Catholic people of Ireland. Catholics in Ireland were prohibited from holding any political office, they could not own firearms or serve in the militia, and even their marriages were governed by strict, segregationist laws. Because the Ascendancy lasted until the late 19th century, most of the Catholic inhabitants of Ireland became embittered towards the Protestant noblemen and sought to gain independence. This is where the current-day “Troubles” begin. The Easter Rising happened in the spring of 1916 when the Military Council of the Irish Republican Brotherhood organized an independence uprising in order to gain an Irish state free from British rule. This uprising was ultimately successful and was the main catalyst of the Anglo-Irish Treaty of 1921. This treaty created a fully autonomous Republic of Ireland comprised of the 26 southern counties of Ireland. The remaining 6 counties remained part of the UK and became known as Northern Ireland.

The most distinguishable difference between the Irish Republic and N. Ireland is the religious makeup of the countries. The Irish Republic is overwhelmingly Catholic, 88% of its citizens claim to be Catholic. Northern Ireland, however, has a population that is about 45% Catholic, 55% Protestant. This relatively even split has led to bitter, sometimes violent tension over how the country itself should continue.

“The Troubles”

The dividing factor between the Nationalists and the Unionists is their belief about how N. Ireland should be governed. Nationalists believe that N. Ireland should be removed from British control and united with the Irish Republic. Understandably, almost all who hold to the nationalist view are themselves Catholic. The Unionists, however, wish to remain united with the Protestant United Kingdom, as they themselves are also Protestant. We can see here that at the center of the animosity are both political and religious differences. The period known as “The Troubles” is recognized for its decidedly violent tendencies, and they began early on in N. Ireland’s existence.

The Irish War of Independence took place from 1920-1922 and was essentially a guerrilla war between the Irish Republican Army (IRA) and the British government’s forces. It saw a total of 557 people killed. The violence reached an escalated level during the 1960’s and 70’s. These years saw the creation of the Ulster Volunteer Force (UVF), a Unionist militia based in Ulster. The Provisional IRA was also formed by a split within the traditional IRA. Many scholars point to 1972 as being the peak of physical violence because 480 people were killed in 1972 alone. The infamous “Bloody Sunday” massacre also occurred in 1972 when 13 unarmed nationalist civil rights demonstrators were killed by British military forces. Sporadic violence continued into the 1980’s but has markedly declined since the advent of several ceasefire agreements in the mid 90’s. In all, the “Troubles” have claimed the lives of over 1,800 civilians and 1,100 security force members. These highly publicized deaths have contributed to the headline status of the problems in N. Ireland.

The Solution

To date, several different solutions have been explored in response to the escalation of violence in N. Ireland. The United Kingdom began devolving power to a representative assembly in Stormont during the 60’s, but this led to a rapid increase in violence and Britain eventually reassumed control in an attempt to curb the violence. As of the 1998 Good Friday Agreement, however, it seems that a gradual devolution is the best solution. The Blair government was able to negotiate the Good Friday Agreement among the involved parties and platforms in N. Ireland. It was also approved by 71% of N. Ireland’s citizens when it was voted on in referendum. This Agreement made provision for another self-governing assembly in Stormont. When it was formed, it consisted of 108 members voted upon by the eligible voting population.

An executive branch was added to the assembly in 1999, but this assembly was also short lived. Disagreements among the members led to the virtual ineffectiveness of the assembly and Westminster stepped in once again to assume control in 2003. Devolution was again restored in 2007 after Sinn Fein leaders and leaders of the Democratic Unionist Party leaders were able to reach agreements. What is the solution? The leaders of the various factions in N. Ireland must remain willing to work together in order to overcome the divisive violence of the last 50 years. Only through political discussion will the violent history remain in the past.

5 Reasons to Climb Mount Everest

1. Charities – Climbing Mount Everest is obviously going to get lot of attention, both from the media and also members of your local community. Why is this a good thing? Well, if you are climbing for a charity then you are going to gain more exposure, which, in turn, will mean more donations to the charity that you are climbing for. Due to the fact that climbing Everest is such a huge feat, more people are going to be interested in what you are planning to do, and they will want to know all about it.

2. Personal Achievement – Something as huge as climbing Mount Everest is bound to have a huge impact on your self- esteem, and also your self-belief. Yamaha YDP 213 Digital Piano Review

Let’s take a close look at the Yamaha YDP 213. This is a good entry level home digital piano and good value for the money too. And speaking of good value for the money, you can find this digital piano for about $900, so it is not outrageously priced.

This 88 key digital piano has an attractive walnut cabinet finish that looks good in any home. You’ll particularly appreciate the fact that it comes with a stand that has 3 pedals built into it. So you don’t have to worry about a pedal sliding on the floor when playing.

Yamaha does a good job of simulating the feel of an acoustic piano. They use different types of keyboard action in their various models. For the Yamaha YDP213 they use the Graded Hammer Standard (GHS) piano action. This type of piano action emulates the feel of an acoustic grand piano by making the lower notes a little heavier than the higher notes.

The feel of a digital piano’s keyboard action is a subjective thing. But some players think the Yamaha GHS piano action is a little too light. Yamaha also uses Graded Hammer Effect on more expensive models, which offers a stiffer feeling piano action that more faithfully recreates the acoustic piano touch. This is one reason the Yamaha YDP213 is better for beginning and hobby piano players and not for professionals. But once again, this is a subjective thing, and you should try any keyboard out to reach your own conclusion.

You can expect good sound quality from this Yamaha digital piano. Yamaha samples the sounds of a real Yamaha acoustic grand piano. The YDP213 uses Advanced Wave Memory tone generation technology. And stereo sound sampling makes the sound even more realistic. That’s what is great about a big player in the digital piano market like Yamaha. They provide great sound quality on their digital pianos. As a beginner or advanced piano player this is very important. If sound quality is inferior the risk of not playing the digital piano is greater, and what good is the keyboard if it just collects dust?

As mentioned above, the YDP213 has 3 pedals built into its stand. It has the soft, sostenuto, and sustain pedal, just like an acoustic piano. One drawback with the pedals is that it doesn’t offer half-pedaling capability. However, this may not be important to a beginner or hobbyist piano player.

What else can you expect from this digital piano? The YDP 213 has 6 different tones, 64-note polyphony, metronome, two 6-watt amplifiers that push two 4-3/4″ speakers, reverb, chorus, MIDI in/out, and other features. Also, the YDP213 has a sliding key cover that will protect against dust and spills, a very important feature.

In conclusion, the YDP213 is a good entry level digital piano for a beginner player or a non-professional piano player. The keyboard action emulates the feel of an acoustic piano, which is important if you’re an accomplished pianist or just a beginner. But more expensive Yamaha models use different keyboard action technology that most players would say better recreates the acoustic feel. The YDP213 is definitely a good quality digital piano at a very affordable price.

Black Forest Wood – A Major Type of Wood Used For Cuckoo Clocks

For centuries wood that is taken from the Black Forest in southwestern Germany has been used in the construction of cuckoo clocks. Black Forest wood is one of the most important cuckoo clock materials that are used in the construction of these clocks. Various different types of trees are used from this part of the world to build many of these cuckoo clocks.

The Black Forest is a part of southwestern Germany. It is particularly in the Baden-Wüerttemberg state of Germany. This is a wooded area that is along the Rhine valley on the southern part of the area. Its various different trees are commonly used for cuckoo clocks.

The reason as to why wood that is from the Black Forest is used is because many of the world’s main manufacturers of cuckoo clocks are based in the Black Forest. Although it is uncertain as to whether or not the cuckoo clock was first invented in the Black Forest this type of clock has been built by various groups in the area for centuries.

Pine tree wood is commonly used as a part of Black Forest wood that can be used for a cuckoo clock. This type of wood is noted for being durable in that it does not suffer from substantial decay levels after logging when it is kept indoors. The pine cones that can come from one of these trees have been used as an inspiration for the shapes of the weights that can be found at the bottom of one of these clocks.

The Linden tree, which is also known as the limetree, is another of the commonly used trees here. This tree, which can be found in the Black Forest, features wood that is popular in the build of various different types of cuckoo clocks in that this material does not have as much grain as other types of cuckoo clock materials. As a result it can be carved in all sorts of highly detailed designs. It is also a strong type of wood that is still light in weight.

The fir tree is used as one of the main sources of cuckoo clock materials in some cases too. However, this wood is not as durable as the Linden tree’s wood and it can decay quickly when it is left outdoors or exposed to outdoor conditions.

Western Painting – Pluralism – The Multiplied Art

Pluralism – The Concept

Pluralism is a general term, denoting the variety of accepted points of view or conventions, related to a subject or a period. Pluralism, in painting, implies an eon on art scene, which is not specifically identified by a particular genus. The earlier eras in painting have been characterized by some underlying philosophies, where one artistic mode followed the other, in succession. For instance, Medieval Painting was succeeded by Renaissance and Baroque Painting styles, in series. Similarly, Post-Impressionism followed Impressionism, and so on. However, the twenty-first century art is distinct, owing to the openness of form and style, so much so that various genres coexist on the same ground. Pluralism symbolizes the present art scene, in effect, with its multiplicity of style. The styles of painting in the twenty-first century range from simplistic Abstract forms to core Realism.

The History

Pluralism began taking roots in the post World War II period, but actualized more prominently around late 1960s and mid 1970s. This phase can be regarded as the time of the institutionalization of Pluralism in true sense. During this phase, artists tried breaking free from the philosophy of rebellion against the previous movements as a foundation of new & contemporary art forms. Instead, the painters preferred to embrace the earlier and newer styles to create eclectic mixes. Pluralism came as a ‘revival’ of more elaborate works from the abstract sects like Color Field. The simplistic forms are based on the theory that there can be no further simplification possible in the structural design.

The Correlations

As the art community started suspecting the end of art as a testimony of historical developments, the painters shifted their focus to the classic art and modern methodologies, at the same time. Pluralism established itself as the simultaneous existence of Pop art, Minimalism, Photorealism, Conceptual art, and Pattern painting, especially in the SoHo district of New York. However, with time, more styles kept coming in, such as Hard-edged painting, Collage, Shaped canvas painting, Lyrical Abstraction, Expressionism, Neo-Expressionism, Digital painting, Monochrome painting, Intermedia painting, Graffiti, Portrait, Mural, Abstract Figurative, and so on.

The Controversy

The main argument cited against Pluralism in art is that these works lack the ‘artistic’ discipline of the genre paintings. The artists do not make conscious efforts to add imaginative excellence to their art. On the contrary, their focus is guided mainly towards the commercial success of their body of works. The admirers, in turn, are short in the judgment of refinement and aesthetics in art. The critics complain that in the quest of creative assortment, Pluralism leads to degradation in the overall quality.

DLO Cable Compared To THHN 10 AWG

DLO cable is very different than THHN wire because they are both designed and manufactured for different daily struggles. THHN is commonly used indoors, outdoors and in conduit applications and it remains still for its entire life. DLO cable, on the other hand, is used outdoors and commonly handled on a day to day basis giving it a few variations as to the amount of protection and user handle ability.

THHN is dual rated with THWN as a thermoplastic hook up wire with a nylon coating. Thick bare copper strands, or even a single solid strand, of copper create a stiff electrical wire for easier installation in conduit. Pushing a flexible cable through conduit will prove to be very difficult.

Since DLO cable is handled by the user on a day to day basis the flexible copper strands help the user bring the cable from point A to point B. DLO cable is also commonly wound up onto a large spool for the day giving it another reason to be manufactured as a flexible cable.

DLO stands for Diesel Locomotive Cable which is obviously used in locomotive installations and other applications that require higher than normal voltage. It’s a 2000 volt single conductor power cable with rubber EPDM insulation and a second rubber jacket even though it’s only a single conductor. The added insulation approves it for high voltage but gives it a think outer diameter that may need to be considered when installing it in raceway.

THHN 10 AWG electrical wire is used in homes and buildings to run power from the electrical box to the outlets, lights and appliances throughout. Running a single 10 AWG wire is less common than running an NMB cable with multiple 10 AWG wires. Most of the applications throughout homes and buildings requires more than one THHN wire at a time making NMB 10/3 a common household electrical wire.

You’ll find in your search that DLO cable is much more expensive than THHN wire. Remember that there won’t be a difference in price based on the amount of copper because both are 10 AWG. So the price difference lies in the insulation, construction and approval process. DLO, for instance, is UL, CSA, MSHA and RoHS compliant while THHN only has a UL and RoHS approval.

Speak to your electrician or your wire and cable provider about the type of wire you need and the AWG size for the application. Choosing it your self can cause all kinds of problems that will be found during the inspection process so make sure everything is done right the first time.

DIY Roman Shades – Make Them Safe

Roman shades are a very widely used decorative window treatment for many reasons and they are a favorite of the DIY’er. They are amongst the most versatile of all window coverings. They are relatively simple to fabricate. While beautiful in their own right, they are even more attractive when energy conservation and dollar savings are considered. Yet they are part of the family of window coverings that most commonly relies on cords for positioning. And cords can be a threat to the safety of children. This does not have to be the case.

Old fashion lift cords have been implicated in far too many accidents involving children. Many of these accidents have resulted in permanent injuries and even deaths. It took the initiative of private groups to raise this issue and the industry has responded. Many national brands of custom and even ready-made blinds and shades have changed their lifting mechanism to safer alternatives. Included are motorized, loop-lift, and spring activated systems. These are certainly safer than their predecessors. Yet these alternatives are generally not cost-effectively available to the DIY’er.

The DIY’er must, to the extent reasonable, take safety into consideration. Let’s examine the risks and some ways to avoid them. The greatest risk to young children comes from the “looping” of cords. Loops that little hands can grab are formed in the draw or pull cords as they hang to the side of the window treatment. In older designs, the several lift cords are carried through to become the pull cords. By various means but most commonly by knotting them together, they are combined to form a pull cord. The several cords thus coming together form loops.

In the case of many window treatments, including roman shades, the lift cords behind the shade also form loops that are accessible to little hands and necks.

When shades are raised, excess pull cord, even a single cord, can be fashioned into a loop by a playful child.

The DIY’er can craft a safe product if they consider these issues. For example, it is generally accepted that a loop needs to be greater than 16″ in diameter to allow a small head to get into trouble. Means of restricting the loop sizes, such as the use and proper placement of safety shroud loop cords which make it nearly impossible for a child to grab the cords and form a 16″ loop, are a great step forward. The reduction of the multiple lift cords to a single pull cord through the use of a cord-condenser or similar technique, can avoid the presence of dangling loops. Cord cleats, placed out of the reach of children, can keep the pull cords away from prying hands. Other important factors include the placement of cords behind the shades in locations that would be difficult for children to access as well as consideration of means, such as weighting the shade, that will keep the cords taut when the shade is down.

Of immense importance to the DIY’er is that contemporary roman shade components are readily available to assist with the fabrication of a safe window covering. When properly used, roman shade safety components and design elements can protect our children at little or no additional cost.

How to Sell Your Own Business

Not Recommended for Companies with Sales Greater than $1 Million

PURPOSE: To provide a quick guide to business owners that desire to sell their business but do not want a significant portion of the transaction value to go to a business broker or M&A intermediary.

1. Have an idea what your company is worth. The most common rule of thumb is that buyers usually pay a multiple of EBITDA. The normal range is a selling price between 3 and 5 times EBITDA. There are exceptions to this rule, but if you have a main street business, you generally fall in that range. If you are a member of an industry association, they may be helpful to you in identifying industry multiples or resources that can help you determine a selling price range.

2. Create a blind profile. It is a brief summary of your company and is designed to communicate the key points about your acquisition opportunity without giving away your company’s identity.

3. Have a Confidentiality Agreement or a Non Disclosure Agreement executed if a potential buyer shows interest in your company.

4. Create a database of Target Acquisition Prospects. You may already know the most likely buyers, but those most likely buyers may also do damage to your business if they determine you are for sale. Your industry or trade associations and trade publications will be helpful. If you want to expand to those potential buyers to a greater universe, I recommend creating a database using one of the database service. You can do a search by location, company size, SIC Code and other criteria to arrive at your selection criteria. There is a charge for this service or a charge for each company you select, and you have to subscribe and do the search yourself.

5. I personally like to call the prospects because sending a mailing is very ineffective these days. Once I get the CEO on the phone, I try to get their interest with a 30 second elevator speech. If he/she is interested, I ask for the email address and email a copy of the Blind Profile and the Confidentiality Agreement and request its execution and return via fax before any more information is exchanged.

6. Post your business on some business for sale web sites.

7. Have the last three years tax returns that reflect the company’s performance available. Create an Executive Summary for potential buyers. A sample Table of Contents is below:

8. After Confidentiality Agreements are executed and you have provided the Executive Summary or whatever information the buyer has requested, you should arrange a buyer visit to further explore the acquisition potential.

9. If they are interested push for a Qualified Letter of Intent (LOI) or Term Sheet. This basically lays out the transaction economics prior to due diligence. The basic concept is that if I (the buyer) can validate what you have told me about your business and find no negative surprises, these are the terms of my purchase offer. It is a non-binding letter and is used to move the process forward. The buyer will normally ask you to stop talking with other buyers if you accept his LOI. He wants to know that if he is going to invest his resources in due diligence, you are not going to shop his number to other buyers.

10. Try to limit the period of due diligence to no more than 45 days. If the buyer finds unexpected issues, they will usually try to adjust their offer downward. It is just part of the process. Just make sure you reveal any warts before he finds them in due diligence.

11. Once that is completed, the buyer’s attorney will draw up Definitive Purchase Agreements and submit them to you. Do not attempt to complete this process without an attorney. You need their help to make sure you understand the contracts and to make sure you are reasonably protected. Do not, I repeat, do not attempt to renegotiate the economics of the deal at this point. It will blow up. You are only dealing with legal issues at this point.

12. Cash Your Check (do not be surprised if you are asked to carry some portion of the purchase price as a seller note). Over half of all business sales involve some form of seller financing. The smaller the company, the higher the percentage. Go to your island and drink your umbrella drinks. Good Luck.

How To Get Skinny – The Natural Asian Way

How to get skinny is probably the most frequent question I get from clients in my weight-loss programs. It’s a challenge that every woman who has struggled with her body has faced at some point in her life. The truth is that there are millions of Asian women around the globe who have skinny and lean bodies year-round…even just after giving birth!

Today you’re going to learn how to get skinny the natural Asian way, by using some easy-to-remember tips that Asian women use to drop extra pounds off quickly that you can add to your everyday routine.

How To Get Skinny – Fast And Easy Natural Solutions

For my new weight-loss clients I first begin with teaching them some fundamental basics about long-term permanent weight loss. Simple things that anyone can do right from day one to jumpstart their fat-burning potential. And while you’re not going to learn every Asian secret about weight-loss from a single short article, you CAN pick up a few tips that will get you on the road to your ideal body:

1. A Smaller Plate = A Smaller Belly – If you ever travel to Asia one of the first things you’ll notice is that the bowls and plates that families use are much smaller than the typical American size. This is important for a reason that isn’t hard to understand: You eat less food if your plate can’t hold more!

Try “shrinking” your dishes when you’re trying to stay focused while losing weight, particularly for dinner, you’ll find that it’s one of the most simple things you can do to answer your question of how to get skinny fast.

2. Water isn’t just found in a glass – Certain vegetables hold two advantages over regular foods, first of which of course is their superior nutrient profile, which helps our bodies stay healthy and functioning well. But for certain veggies like zucchini, tomatoes, cucumbers, and kale, there’s a second big advantage for those trying to figure out how to get skinny: They’re water-dense.

Water-dense vegetables will fill you up (and keep you full) much longer than other options, try to include them as a side-dish with main meals.

3. Cut the fruit juice and switch to REAL fruit – There’s an amazing thing that happens when we drink fruit juice from the typical store. Our insulin level skyrockets due to all the refined sugar in the drink, which makes it nearly impossible for another 4-6 hours to burn any fat…even if your diet is flawless.

Avoid this trap by only drink actual fruit juice that you personally squeezed. If that’s too much work, no problem, eat an actual piece of fruit instead…and enjoy the fiber within it that keeps you from being hungry. Always choose real fruit over anything processed, it will bring you closer to the answer to “how to get skinny” much faster.

4. No “Las Vegas drinks” when out to dinner – When you’re eating out, don’t be tempted to order a bottle of white wine, a large 16oz fruity cocktail, or any other big size drink that may contain alcohol or processed sugars. The answer in this area of how to get skinny comes in the form of ordering your wine by the glass instead, and sticking to cocktails that are less than 6 ounces in volume. You can ask the waiter for an example of the glass size if you’re unsure.

Often we overindulge on drinks and alcohol at dinner when eating out, and it not only inflates the bill it inflates our thighs! Stick to healthy water, tea, or other natural liquids when eating out and minimize the damage.

These basic tips can go a lot further than you may think on the road to getting skinny fast, if you make them a habit and practice each of them daily it wouldn’t surprise me to see you drop 10 or 15 pounds within a month or so. They’re that powerful in keeping you from the body you desire.
