What If An Across the Bow Text Gets No Response From Ex?

After the no contact rule and if your ex hasn’t contacted you, making the first step toward establishing contact will be up to you. By now, you should’ve heard about the Across the Bow Text from The Text Your Ex Back system by Michael Fiore. If you haven’t it’s suggested that you learn more about Across the Bow Texts.

But what if you sent an Across The Bow Text message and got no response from your ex? If you had Michael Fiore’s system you would know exactly what this means.

First off, let’s clear away some misconceptions about these so called Across the Bow Texts and reveal what they’re meant to do. Got your attention? Good!

This text message is the first initial message you’re going to send to your ex after the no contact rule is finished (in which you should already have a complete strategy in getting back your ex). This message is not the magical single message that’s going to get them running back to you.

Please get that frame of mind out of your head. Attracting your ex was a process, and re-attracting your ex is a process as well. Stop thinking that getting back your ex is just one magical thing to say or do to get them back. It doesn’t work that way.

Nevertheless, you have to find out where you stand with your ex after no contact. You have to find out where they are at. Are they ready to communicate with you again?

Well, that’s what you’ll find out with an Across the Bow Text message. You find out her level of interest and if she or he is ready to start talking to you again.

So what if an Across the Bow Text message you send gets no response from your ex? It means you need to give them more time and space. It means they’re not quite ready to interact with you yet.

One of the first basic rules of attraction is that you cannot convince someone to be attracted to you. This also means you cannot convince someone to interact with you if they have no desire to.

In the realm of getting your ex back, this means that you still need to allow more time for your ex to miss you and start leaning towards thinking of you positively again. Trying to force your ex to have positive thoughts of you will only make you more of a negative presence in their eyes. Why? It’s because you’ll become a nuisance!

What Are the Advantages of an Underground Drainage System?

When constructing your home or making improvements in your property or garden, one important area that must be considered is that of an efficient drainage system. This can prevent a number of undesirable problems occurring as well as even protecting your health.

All too often many homeowners never think about issues such as flooding or water contamination until they happen, by which time they can be faced with costly repair bills on top of the now evident need to install an effective drainage system. So what are underground drainage systems, and what are their advantages?

An underground drainage system is a solution for collecting excess water and transporting it via underground pipes to a suitable waste water disposal area. Typical water collection sites include guttering and grates in several strategic points around a property, yard or garden, and this group of systems supplies the underground drainage pipes with excess water.

The first obvious advantage of the such systems is that it is out of sight. Other drainage systems that do not use underground pipes can be quite unsightly leaving homeowners searching for a solution that is more pleasant in appearance. Underground drainage systems are out of sight and out of mind whilst they do their job serving your property. The other most significant benefit of the underground drainage system is that it prevents the obvious accumulation of water that comes with not having an efficient system in place. As one can imagine, a complete system can stop rainwater pooling in spaces at the exterior of the property, including in yards and gardens.

Water logging in these kinds of areas can kill the plants of enthusiastic gardeners and provide a serious safety hazard for anyone who has to walk through a flooded area. In addition to this, water that has pooled in a specific area can cause damage to property, machinery or other objects it is in contact with.

Underground drainage also supplies keen gardeners with another major advantages; their plot of land will not be destroyed by soil erosion caused by inefficient draining of excess water. Water which becomes stagnant in the ground can turn soil into a muddy mass, meaning that plants will not only die, but soil can be eroded away, potentially ruining a garden. There is another key advantage to installing an underground drainage system in a property, which affects the health and safety of its occupiers.

In times when your region experiences periods of extremely heavy weather, you may be a victim of flash floods. Flash floods can unfortunately bring contaminants into a garden or property, meaning that potentially dangerous elements can enter into the home and therefore come into contact with the residents. An underground drainage system supplies the occupiers with a sense of security that their property is at reduced risk of being affected in this way. With such systems in place, excess water from flooding and the potentially harmful materials it contains is transported away from the premises so no one living in the property is negatively affected.

A disadvantage; however, to underground drainage systems, is that they can be expensive to install and maintain. That said, it is a factor worth considering when an excess of water threatens the livelihood of a garden, home and its occupiers. Drainage supplies are available from a number of reputable stockists that can enable a competent DIYer to install a simple system of their owner. Similarly, trained professionals can obtain high quality supplies in order to put an effective system in place for you. Either way, an underground drainage system brings many benefits to a home and its residents, and is an option to seriously consider when constructing new house or simply making improvements to an existing one.

How to Make a Dehumidifier Empty Automatically

A dehumidifier is a very important device for those homeowners with a damp basement. Dampness can lead to mold, mildew, and increased incidence of allergies.

Unfortunately, a dehumidifier can be a real pain in the backside because you have to keep emptying the water storage bucket. Simply getting it in and out of the machine can be difficult. Getting the bucket to the sink without spilling its contents can sometimes require the balancing abilities of a juggler.

A better method is to add a drain hose to the dehumidifier so the water drains by itself. This eliminates the dreaded trek to dispose of the water.

Drain connection ———-

Firstly, make sure your dehumidifier has a threaded drain connection. This is a threaded nozzle at the rear of the machine that empties into the water bucket.

Remove the water storage bucket. You should see a threaded nipple connection. A few models have a connection on the water bucket itself. Either allows a drain hose (or a piece of a lawn hose) to be attached to the rear of the machine.

Once a hose is attached the water drains into the hose. The hose can then be directed away from the dehumidifier into a floor drain.

Above the sink method ———-

Not every home has a floor drain. Therefore, some consumers install the dehumidifier above a sink to allow for easy draining. This does require the installation of a wall bracket or shelf higher than the sink. The water produced by the dehumidifier is then simply allowed to drain directly into the sink or laundry room standpipe.

The above the sink method works but limits their usage to one area. Also regular maintenance, such as cleaning the filter, becomes difficult. Simply leaving the dehumidifier on the floor is more convenient. Plus it allows you to quickly move it to others rooms, if required.

Drain hose method ———-

A better method is to take advantage of the threaded drain connection at the rear of your dehumidifier. With a lawn hose added for draining, the distance between dehumidifier and drain becomes virtually unlimited.

Remember water will always flow downhill. Therefore if the drain point is lower than the drain connection on the dehumidifier, the water will run down the hose.

Throughout this article the term ‘floor drain’ is used. If you have no floor drain then an alternate can be used. Consider a shower stall drain, a toilet, a sink, a sump hole, or a standpipe for a washing machine. Although a floor drain is easiest, any of the other drains work equally well. The fact that they are higher above the floor level simply means the dehumidifier end of the drain hose will have to be raised higher to compensate.

It sounds simple enough, but the dehumidifier may be in one part of the basement and the floor drain another, with 50 feet of lawn hose between them. Finding the correct height for each end is the whole trick. You therefore have to determine their height relative to one another. This in turn will be the secret to eliminate the need to empty the machine.

The simplest way to do all this and make your dehumidifier drain automatically is the following:

1. Lay a drain (lawn) hose along the floor between a floor drain and the dehumidifier. At the floor drain end insert the hose a few inches into the drain. At the dehumidifier end locate the hose close to where the dehumidifier will be operating.

2. Lift the dehumidifier end of drain hose up until it’s approximately level with the top of the water storage bucket.

3. Pour water into the drain hose and have someone advise you if water empties into the floor drain. If ‘yes’ proceed to step number 7.

4. If water backs out of the hose without flowing into the floor drain the hose end is not yet high enough. Raise the hose a few inches and repeat the process. Continue repeating until water flows out the floor drain end of the hose. When it does make note of how high above the floor level you had to lift the hose. This height is important.

5. To further refine the proper height add more water to the end of hose while alternately raising and lowering hose. The prefect height is slightly above the point where water backs out of the hose.

6. Raise the dehumidifier so that its threaded drain connection is above the height determined in step number 4. If this requires the dehumidifier being elevated off the floor do so temporarily, using blocks or supports under the machine. A more permanent structure can be constructed later.

7. Reconnect the drain hose to the threaded drain hose connection at the rear of the dehumidifier.

8. To test, pour water into the drain trough pan at the rear of the machine. On most dehumidifiers this is a small plastic trough or pan just above where the drain hose is now connected. If your machine has a rear cover remove it to gain access to the drain trough.

Pour water into the drain trough. It should run out the floor drain end of the hose freely. If the trough overflows go back and start over at step number 3.

9. Reconnect dehumidifier to electricity. Allow it to operate for 24 hours with the drain (lawn) hose connected. If it appears to be operating properly, proceed to final step.

10. Construct a permanent stand to hold dehumidifier. Run the drain hose along baseboards and secure. Secure drain end of hose into drain.

Your dehumidifier drain is now fully automatic. Every time the dehumidifier cycles off the accumulated moisture will run into the drain trough, down the drain hose, across to the floor drain, and down the drain. No more having to empty cumbersome water storage buckets.

Lastly, you should make note on a calendar to clean or replace the dehumidifier filter every month. This, along with some occasional maintenance, will keep your dehumidifier working efficiently far into the future.

The Advantages and Disadvantages of a Cordless Drill Battery

Just in case you’re not sure what type of cordless drill batteries are needed for longer run times and are lighter in weight, this article will explain the advantages and disadvantages of NiCad (nickel cadium), NiMH (nickel metal hydride) and Li-Ion (lithium ion) batteries. Battery is one of the most important factors to consider when buying any portable devices and tools. Without a good battery to last the long hours of dedicated work, it limits the benefits of portability.

Advantages of NiCad Battery

It has longer recharge cycle life of up to 1000 cycles, slighter longer than NiMH batteries. NiCad batteries are the first battery introduced into a cordless drill. It is more robust to temperature that means it can run well regardless of weather conditions. NICad batteries have long shelf life and the lowest cost per charging cycle.

It has its disadvantages. NiCad has memory effects. It can easily lose it ability to maintain full charge. One way to prevent it is to discharge it completely and recharge again. It is also not environmental friendly (toxic metals).

Advantages of NiMH Battery

NiMH batteries have higher energy density and therefore run longer than NiCad batteries. Lighter than NiCad batteries and carry less heavy metals seems to be more advantageous between both batteries.

However, it is more sensitive to temperature and may not work below zero degrees or above forty degrees centigrade. If you live in tropical countries, you may have no problems using it but the shorter recharge life cycle than NiCad batteries will most probably force you to stay away from NiMH batteries.

Advantages of Li-Ion Battery

That is the choice if you have been using it in cordless drills. Li-Ion battery is the latest amongst the three types. The advantages far outweigh its disadvantages and many cordless drill manufactures started to use Li-Ion battery in newer models. Two factors certainly affect consumer’s buying decision – longer run times per charge and its weight. Li-Ion batteries have the most run times compared with the rest and it weighs much lighter amongst the three types of batteries. It does not have memory effect and not require to fully discharge to prolong battery life. In fact, it is recommended to partial charge and discharge more often to maintain if not prolongs its shelf life.

For power users who need to drill all day long certainly need more run times per charge to reduce changing battery too often. Lighter weight also means less stress on the wrist.

However, the disadvantages of shorter shelf life and higher price might be the major drawback for conservative users. If you are a power user and use it almost on a daily basis, two to three years of consistent use is enough to retire the battery. The convenience that Li-Ion batteries provide is already worth the initial price.

In conclusion, the recommendation is to choose Li-Ion battery for cordless drills. Li-Ion batteries have long been used in cell phones and it is only later that cordless drill manufacturers started to catch up. In my opinion, latest technology always provides better advantages than disadvantages for consumers. If you have not already use Li-Ion battery operated cordless drill, it is time to make a change.

How to Deal With Water Damaged Timber

Timber damage

Timber and water have never been the best of friends and a lot of people are unsure of what to do when timber gets wet. With the recent floods submerging thousands of timber structures all over Queensland, we thought we would shed some light on their sometimes delicate friendship.

Before any repairs are undertaken it is important to enlist in the advice of an electrician and plumber in order ensure the safety of both elements. In addition, a structural assessment should be performed and any structural repairs should be carried out under the advice of a professional.

Despite the myths, timber wood products which have been submerged in water for a prolonged period of time will not decay or grow mould. However, for this to be true, once water has subsided, timber structures should be cleaned efficiently of mud and silt and allowed to dry quickly, preferably using air-conditioners, dehumidifiers or fans, if electricity is available. If structures are left damp and dirty, oxygen will cause the timber to decay and mould, especially in untreated pine.

When and if timber does become moldy, it can be scraped off to reveal sound timber underneath, however caution should be taken when doing this, as the soggy timber may mark easily. Decay is a different story; once a timber structure becomes decayed it is almost inevitable that it can be not salvaged.

Swelling and Shrinkage

Timber wood products will swell when they are saturated and they will shrink when they dry out. The amount of swelling and shrinkage will depend on the type of wood and the duration it has been saturated for. Depending on where the timber has become swollen, it may also have secondary affects on other structures.

It may take 6-12 months in a well ventilated situation for a water damaged area to fully dry out. Higher density timbers such as hard wood will obviously take longer to dry.

Kitchen Cupboards, Vanity Units, Laundry Units

If possible, refrain from discarding undamaged bench tops such as granite, sinks, taps and basins.

Particleboard or medium density fibre board will have to be replaced if they have been inundated. After swelling occurs these materials are unsalvageable.

If any units are salvageable, they may still need to be removed in order to remove the mud, silt and moisture residue which may be trapped. If this is not done, long term affects can occur including decay and mould.

Roofs, Walls and Floors

Timer frames which have been inundated need to be washed down immediately to allow them to dry as quickly as possible. Frames that are behind walls or linings need to be exposed; therefore linings, walls and insulation must be ripped out.

Not only will lining need to be removed to dry unexposed timer frames, but most lining products which have been submerged will need to be replaced due to unrecoverable damage.

Timber Floors

These should be assessed on an individual bases as every case is different. Although some timber floors may not need replacing, they will almost definitely never return to their original finish.

Termite Protection

Water logged termite barriers will be in effective and require tool reinstatement or recharging.

Woodworking With Monterillo, a Rare and Exotic Hardwood

Just as a chef must assemble quality ingredients before creating a signature dish, so the woodworker must pick and choose the pattern, the tools, and the wood or woods from which to create a masterpiece. Unlike the chef’s creation, which will be eaten and remembered, the finished object a woodworker creates is intended to be utilized over a long period of time. Ideally, the end result is beautiful, functional, and will stand up to the task assigned. Selecting the best wood for the project is an important part of this creation process, and the woodworker will do well to choose wisely. It is as important to have the right wood as it is to use the appropriate tool.

Monterillo is one of the many exotic hardwoods available to the woodworker.

Monterillo is a dark, durable wood that is food grade safe. It is considered both rare and exotic because the trees from which it is derived seldom grow large enough to produce lumber sized boards. This greatly limits the availability for large projects, but the wood is prized for its natural beauty and great durability. Somewhat ironically, the qualities for which it admired also provide a challenge to the woodworker. While not a wood for a novice woodworker to begin with, this rare and exotic hardwood has durability and beauty that lends itself well to any number of projects.

This is not a wood for a beginning woodworker, in part because of the relative expense of the wood itself, but also because of the properties it exhibits when being worked by hand or by machine. On the wood hardness scale, Monterillo tends to be found on the harder end. This makes it extremely durable, but difficult to work. The coloration and interesting grain, however, make it worthwhile for projects that can feature those natural qualities.

Monterillo is often found in items of jewelry such as earrings, beads, or pendants, and can be carved into exotic hair combs. Monterillo is also often used to make knife blades and pen barrels, small trinket boxes, and musical instruments.

This is a food safe wood, so it can be used for items intended for kitchen use, such as cutting boards, wooden utensils, and other items which may come in contact with food. This is an extremely important factor in choosing the wood for any of these useful projects, as not all hardwoods are safe for projects involving the kitchen.

This precious hardwood, because of the rarity, tends to be among the more expensive of woods available, and so is more likely to be found in small projects, or as an accent when objects are intended to be completed with only an oiled, or rubbed finish. One would never use Monterillo in a project intended to be painted.

When shopping for Monterillo, be aware that it may be found under other names. For example, because of the unique grain coloration which can resemble the stripes found on a tiger, Monterillo is often called Tiger Rosewood. It is occasionally also referred to as Ecuador Rosewood. Regardless of name, this is a fine wood which can add great beauty to the finished project, and is a favorite of many experienced woodworkers around the world.

The Importance of Name Boards for Business

First of all gone are the days when shops and offices would paint their concern’s name on their wall. Now even the sign boards with printed design has also gone out of the market. Here is the time for name boards and signages which comes in different latest trends along with the use of technology. There are front lit boards, back lit boards, name boards which are made using metals, there are name boards which are made using glass, there are name boards which are made using LED lights and neon lights. With all these types to choose it has become a very big and reputed market. As mentioned earlier name boards does boost the sales of the place and it also enhances the reputation of the shops/office and it has become a matter of ego nowadays. When a customer comes to a shopping area he looks all round and the first thing which attracts him is the name boards. Using LED displays and neon lights has become a trend today. The LED lights are high in density and can be viewed from a long distance. The customers very obviously will get attracted towards a name board which is very flashy and good. They don’t even look at the size of the shop, they don’t even want to know what quality of materials are, they don’t want to know the price of the product but the name boards just lures them into the place. Extra bucks should be spent on the name boards due to its importance. Never try to save money on the name boards. Neon light name boards are even better and it suits certain types of business such as hotels, bars, games corner etc. They can be visible in pitch dark and they in fact look more beautiful in dark night. This also is good for their business.

Apart from business the name boards and signage are also very important for corporate companies. Many information technology company find it as an image of the company and definitely want to make the signage perfect. They want their logos to be on their building as signage. Many would have seen that the reception and waiting area of many corporate companies have signages in the reception area. Now this is a need for a good signage with a combination which suits the interior of the company. So it is a matter of prestige. The reception area is made keeping in mind the logo, the company name style, the color combinations and the font style. You cannot just simply print a digital banner and stick it on the wall of the reception area.

How to Move a House Using the FHA Renovation Loan Program

Do you really want a bargain when purchasing a home? Then the FHA renovation loan is the way to purchase, save money and get instant equity in your home.

This exciting renovation loan program allows a borrower to move a house from one location to another, have a new foundation poured and have the old house attached to the new foundation.

Some years ago, one of my clients was looking for a home, she was getting frustrated because she was not able to find a house within her budget that was the size that would accommodate her family.

At the same time she was looking for a house to buy, a developer in Roswell Georgia had purchased some land to build a sub division. There were houses on the land that needed to be demolished or moved so that he could complete his project. The houses were in good conditions so rather than demolishing them he decided to give them away, the recipient would be responsible for the cost of moving the houses. He donated the houses to a church, this was a smart move for the developer because it was a tax write off for him.

My client was an active member of the Church and she requested and received one of the houses; it was her responsibility to pay for the move. The new problem that she faced was not having somewhere to move the house right away. There where time frames that had to be met, because the developer had to get the houses moved so that he could start his build.

She started her search for land and was having the same problems she had when she was looking for a house, she was unable to find land within her budget that was large enough for the house. In a very rare instance HUD had a plot of land for sale inside the city limits of Atlanta. She would have to bid on the land and there was no guarantee that she would win the bid. She did win the bid and now it was a matter of her getting the house moved from Roswell Georgia to Atlanta Georgia a distance of about 15 miles.

The house movers had been contacted about the move, but they wanted their $9000.00 upfront and my client did not have that kind of cash. The beauty of the FHA renovation loan program is that the cost of the move can be financed into the loan, it was a matter of getting the House Mover to agree to wait for the loan to close in order to get his money. After speaking to the mover and explaining how the renovation loan program worked he agreed to wait until the closing, he also agreed not to take a deposit from my client because the loan program is FHA insured.

The cost of pouring the new foundation, attaching the old house and repairs after the house was attached came to $22,000.00. A 20% contingency fee was added into the loan just in case there were any problems that occurred during the move. There were no problems so that 20% was applied to reduce the principal balance.

Once the house was attached, the appraiser was called to project a value once the house was completed. The value he forecasted was $62,000.00, that was a lot of instant equity for my client.

It takes having a vision when purchasing a property using the FHA renovation loan program and my client certainly had a vision.

How to Maintain Your Home’s Exterior Wood Doors

It’s no secret that buying a wooden exterior door is an investment in your home. It’s not the cheapest type of exterior door you can buy, but it will probably last many years longer than most other types of doors. Unlike other more flimsy mediums, exterior wood doors are built to stand the test of time. But, the best part about owning a wooden exterior door is probably the fact that it can be repaired. If you have a fiberglass door, there isn’t much you can do about chipping or deep gauges that may end up on the surface. Exterior wood doors are a home investment that can last a lifetime, if they’re properly maintained.

Polishing is the first step you’ll take to maintain the look of your wood door. Over time, you’ll find that the finish gets dull and needs a little refresher. This is completely normal, especially for the outside portion that is getting direct sunlight and being exposed to the elements. Polishing exterior wood doors is easy. All you need is a good furniture polish and a dust rag. If you have any dirt or other marks on the door, clean them off with a wood-approved cleaner before polishing your door. For this, you can use the same cleaner you use for your hardwood floors.

Maintaining Finish

Even if you polish your door regularly, the finish will fade over time. Exterior doors that are protected by a storm door and mostly sit in the shade will last many years before you have to worry about restoring the finish, but doors that are often exposed to the elements may need to be spruced up a little sooner. To restore a dull or cracking finish to its former luster, you’ll need to start by sanding off the outside layer, and then wiping away all dust with a clean damp cloth. Then, you simply apply two coats or more of a fade-resistant (this is crucial for an exterior door) exterior polyurethane with an ultraviolet inhibitor (this will protect the finish from fading in the sun, much like sunscreen for your door).

Maintaining Paint

If your door is painted instead of stained, you may encounter some of the same problems. Some colors and brands of paint fade quicker than others, but you should be able to get quite a few years out of each coat of paint. Follow the instructions for maintaining finish above, but just pick out the paint color you want. Be sure to get an exterior paint with some ultraviolet protection.

Trimming Swollen Wood

This maintenance method is at the bottom of the list because it will probably be many years before you have to worry about trimming down swollen wood on a new door. However, if you have an older door, you might notice that the wood has expanded. Maybe there was water damage or maybe it absorbed excess humidity in the air, but your door is no longer closing as it should. You’ll need some woodworking tools to pull this one off, so if you aren’t comfortable trimming the swollen wood off of your exterior door, hire a professional to do it for you.

When you buy a wooden door, you’re buying a product that is truly built to last. They are designed to brave the elements for years with very little care and maintenance required. However, if you’ve had your exterior wood doors for a few years already, you should at the very least consider polishing them. A little maintenance will go a long way.

Patio Heaters – What Your Patio Heater Manual Doesn’t Tell You

A patio heater, just like any other appliance needs periodic maintenance. When checking your manual, you will probably have very good instructions in how to assemble and operate your patio heater. There may even be some useful troubleshooting information, if your patio heater doesn’t operate properly. But there is something the manufacture doesn’t bother to let you to know.

The warmer seasons are ending and you get your patio heater out of storage, ready to warm up those brisk mornings and colder nights. You turn on the natural gas supply or make sure you have a full propane tank. Friends and family are eagerly waiting to stand by the patio heater, so you go to light it up. Using the outdoor heater before, you know to turn the knob to pilot and depress the ignition button… click, and it doesn’t light. Okay, you try it again, click and it doesn’t light again. Your guests continue to wait patiently, but slowly start to move indoors and out of the chill. You check the gas supply again and try the ignition process a few more times, but decide to move the party inside.

The next day you check the instructions and troubleshooting guide, but still can’t get your patio heater to light and think you may need a new outdoor heater to move the gathering outdoors once again. However, if you knew a few maintenance tips, you might be able to save yourself the cost of a new patio heater and once again be the life of the party.

What most patio heater instructions won’t tell you is that a covered or stored heater is a favorite home for spiders and other little creatures. The cool, dark and confined space makes for a perfect nesting location for our eight legged friends. The debris, nest and spider webs created during the period of non-use of your patio heater, blocks the important functioning parts, making it not to work properly or at all. Unfortunately, without dismantling a couple key parts, you would never be able to see the problem created by the web, debris or nest. If your patio heater is more than a year old, more than likely it is out of warranty and the manufacturer won’t offer much help.

So what do you do now to get your outdoor patio heater back in operation. Almost all natural gas or propane patio heaters contain the same components of a control valve, a pilot, a thermocouple and a main burner. Getting to and cleaning these components are essential to having your outdoor heater working again.

Cleaning the internal parts of your Patio Heater:

Note: Always make sure the patio heater is cool, with any gas supply disconnected.

1. Remove the hood or reflector and emitter screen. The parts are usually attached to main burner housing with four screws. Once this is remove, you will have access to the main burner, pilot and thermocouple.

2. Remove the main burner, which is usually attached to a bracket with anywhere from two to four screws. Once the main burner is removed, you will have access to the main burner orifice. The orifice a small brass fitting with a tiny hole, measured in gauges. This tiny hole can become clogged or obstructed by the debris, nest or web, left by the spider. Since very little or no gas can pass through the obstruction, the outdoor heater will not create a flame or will have a very yellow sooty flame.

3. With a wrench or socket set, remove this orifice for cleaning. To clean, use compressed air or a needle to remove any obstruction.

4. Check the pilot for any other obstructions. On occasion, the pilot orifice, like the main burner orifice, will have leftover deposits by the spiders. This brass fitting will have an even smaller hole that the main burner orifice. Removing the pilot orifice can be tricky, as different manufacturers will secure the pilot in different manners. Most pilots, however, will be connected to a bracket holding the pilot and thermocouple. Loosen this bracket so you will have free access to the pilot. The pilot orifice will be directly on top of the small copper tube and just under the pilot. Remove the pilot and then remove the pilot orifice. Clean the pilot orifice in the same manner as the main burner orifice with compressed air or a needle.

5. On the main burner, there should be two openings near the bottom of the burner, these are called the venturi. Make sure the opening are clear of any obstructions, so air can be mixed properly with the gas.

6. With all patio heater parts cleaned, reassemble all the parts in reverse order from above, but DO NOT re-attach the hood (reflector).

7. Reconnect and turn on your gas supply. Following your operation manual, light your patio heater only to the pilot position. While keeping the control knob depressed in the pilot position, check and see that the pilot is lit, with the flame touching the top of the thermocouple. After you have check this, release the control knob (about 30 – 60 seconds) and the pilot should remain lit. If it does not, wait for the heater to cool and follow the pilot orifice cleaning instructions above. Reassemble and light the pilot again.

8. Once the pilot remains lit, turn the control knob to the high position. If the main burner orifice was cleaned properly, you should see a 4 – 6 inch blue flame with orange-yellow tips. If the flame is almost all yellow, then the obstructions in the burner venturi were not cleaned properly. The venturi allow air to mix with gas to burn clean. If no air mixes with the gas, a yellow and dirty flame is produced.

9. With the pilot and main burner now in perfect operation, wait for the patio heater to cool then reassemble the emitter screen and hood back onto the housing bracket, using the same screws provided

10. Light your patio heater and your back in business and ready to have another great party, gathering or outdoor dining experience once again.

Please note that with either a natural gas or propane patio heater, if you are uncomfortable with gas appliances, contact a qualified gas technician.

Cleaning Your Wood Exterior Doors

After investing in beautiful wood exterior doors, any proud homeowner is going to want to keep them looking their best. In any city, exterior doors can easily gather grime and dirt. However, with a little know-how and some elbow grease you can have yours looking great again in no time.

A fresh looking front door will liven up your house and help it stand out on your street. You’ll feel good as you enter your home through a clean portal, and it will give your guests a nice first impression too.

Cleaning your doors is not difficult, but you may need a few different cleaning products depending on the type of door you have.

Starting with some of the supplies you’ll need and explaining how to prepare and clean them from top to bottom, this is how to keep your wood exterior doors looking their best.

Gather Your Cleaning Supplies

The first task is to take a look at the type of door you have and the amount of dirt and grime you need to get rid of. For both the preparation and the cleaning, you may only need some of the supplies here. For certain types of door, or depending on the task in hand, you may need them all.

To prepare your door for cleaning, any of the following equipment may be required: a vacuum with a hose and brush attachment, paper towels or soft rags, a feather duster, a small artist’s paintbrush, a step-ladder, and a broom.

For the cleaning step of the process, we may need any of the following: soft rags and soft sponges, a commercial wood cleaner such as Murphy’s Oil Soap, a homemade cleaning solution of dish soap, one teaspoon of baking soda, and four cups of hot water, glass cleaner (newspapers make a good cleaning rag that won’t leave streaks on glass), commercial metal cleaner or hot soapy water for metal door fixtures, and oil for use on hinges.

Use a commercial product or the homemade mixture for cleaning wood exterior doors without paint. For doors with paint, use the homemade solution; don’t use Murphy’s Oil Soap.

Preparing Your Door For Cleaning

Before you can actually clean your wood exterior doors, you’ll need to get rid of the dust and dirt that has accumulated on it.

Open the door and start at the top of the door frame, using the brush attachment on the vacuum cleaner everywhere possible. Then dust with paper towels, rags, or a feather duster in the places the vacuum cleaner couldn’t reach.

Dust the entire door frame and door from top to bottom, and use this time to inspect the door for stains and damage. Use the little paintbrush to get into any cracks.

Finally, sweep up the entryway, inside and out.

Getting Rid of the Grime

Use a soft sponge or rag to apply the cleaner, always going with the grain of the door. Again, go from top to bottom and include the door frame.

Be gentle, and don’t scrub too hard as this can remove the paint or finish from your wood exterior door. Once done, go over the door with a soft rag to get rid of any left-over cleaner or water.

When cleaning any windows, be sure to watch carefully for drips and get them quickly. These could stain your door and leave you with an ugly reminder every time you leave or enter.

Clean the doorknobs, locks, hinges, and other metal fixtures. Again, be sure not to scrub too hard if you’re using an abrasive cleaner.

For wood exterior doors with a stain finish, use furniture polish or wax to give it a like-new shine. Wipe the door in the direction of the grain so the polish goes on smoothly and looks even once finished.

Finish by oiling your locks and hinges to give your door a smooth feel to go along with its new look.

Although it may look like a large task, and it pays to take care of any paint or other finishes, cleaning an wood exterior door doesn’t have to be a complicated task.

Start by gathering everything you’ll need so you have it all to hand during the process. Then get rid of all the dirt and little particles that have built up on and around the door. Finally, clean that door until it sparkles and makes you proud!

Afterwards, you can enjoy your wood exterior door every time you come or go from your home, and maybe even catch a nice compliment from a neighbor.

A Mountain Biking Primer

The first requirement for a would be mountain biker is to obtain a bicycle. Some mountain bicycles are traditional in that they feature thick rugged tires. These bikes are ideal for off road rough terrain biking. There are also mountain bikes that feature thinner less rugged tires. These bikes are really hybrids between mountain bikes and touring bikes. The advantage these bikes offer is they weigh less than traditional mountain bikes. If you are planning on biking on paved roads or paved bike trails or even on trails with light obstacles such as roots or rocks these bikes (hybrids) may be ideal for you.

For the technical mountain biker who enjoys riding over rocks, tree roots, and other natural hazards the thicker tired mountain bike will offer a safer more satisfying riding experience. As a fledgling mountain biker you should not as a general rule choose the most expensive mountain bike available. As a general rule what you are paying for is either an enhanced ride through the use of front and rear shock absorbers mounted over the front wheel and under the seat of the bicycle or a bike frame constructed of the very latest space age medals and so lighter than traditional mountain bikes. The only times I can see spending extra for an more expensive mountain bike is if you suffer from arthritis, have had a carpal tunnel or other operation such that an enhanced shock absorbing system will benefit you. Also if you enter mountain biking races than a more lightweight mountain biking frame will benefit you.

Right after selecting a mountain bicycle, I suggest you select a bicycle helmet. No one should engage in the sport of mountain biking without a helmet. Many states have passed laws requiring that both children and adults wear helmets when they ride bicycles. The natural hazards inherent in the sport of mountain biking make proper headgear a necessity. Most bike helmets today are made at least in part of hardened Styrofoam with plastic outsides and are very light in weight. Inside the biking helmet there is usually stamped the safety results that independent testing organizations have obtained in testing the helmet. These should be examined carefully.

In addition to needing a mountain bike and a helmet you will need to transport your bike to where you wish to ride. To do this, you will need a bike rack. There are 3 major types of bike racks available. These are roof racks, trunk racks, and bicycle hitches. A roof rack fits tightly on your car’s roof. The bikes are clamped tightly to the rack. A roof rack has the advantage of allowing the trunk of your vehicle to be readily accessible. This can be an important advantage on vacation trips. The two most prevalent manufacturers of roof racks seem to be Thule and Yakima. I have also seen racks with Sears Roebuck and Volvo trademarks attached to cars also. One major disadvantages of a roof rack is that carrying your bikes on top of your vehicle adds height to the vehicle. You need to be very conscious of this when you are using your vehicle with bikes attached on top and about to pass through a tunnel, park your car in a parking facility with a low roof, or even park your car in your own garage. I am ashamed to admit that I have forgotten that my bikes were attached to my roof rack as I entered my own garage on more than one occasion with expensive consequences of my absent mindedness!

Some other possible disadvantages of using roof racks are that lifting your bikes up to fasten them to the roof rack puts extra strain on your back and may cause back injuries. Another disadvantage of roof racks, is especially with today’s sport utility vehicles, you may need to carry a step stool in your vehicle when you are cycling in order to lift the bikes high enough to fasten them to your vehicle. A trunk rack as the name implies, has clamps which fasten tightly to the trunk of your car. Trunk racks are clamped to the trunk of your car before you begin your biking trip and are removed after its completion.

Trunk racks may be ideal when you are carrying bicycles for young children that are not heavy or large. As the size and weight of the bikes increases. the added size and weight may bend or dent your trunk and impede accessibility to it with a trunk rack. A hitch rack is attached to the rear of your vehicle on a more or less permanent basis. The bikes are fastened using heavy rubber clamps. A hitch rack offers the advantage of not increasing the height of your vehicle or denting your trunk. Hitch racks do increase the length of your vehicle and restrict visibility in back of your vehicle. Furthermore, a hitch rack with bikes attached makes the motion detector on my Ford Explorer useless. With all of that said, I myself use a hitch rack.

Another piece of equipment that is a necessity for mountain biking are water bottle racks. Regardless of the season, it is important to have an ample supply of water with you when you are mountain biking. Water bottle racks come in a few styles and can be easily attached to your bicycle. If you will be cycling for more than a few hours, you should take food with you as well. Food for lunch or snacks can be carried safely in many types of bike bags which can be fastened by means of velcro straps or bungies (single or double width elastic straps). If taking food in a bike bag is likely to be a part of your mountain biking experience, you should ask your bike store to attach a sturdy rack to your bike to which you can attach a thermal bag to carry your food in.

I also suggest carrying a few other things with you when you ride. A universal bike tool to allow you to raise or lower your seat, an extra inner tube for your tires, and a small bike air pump can all come in handy, help you meet your little biking emergencies, and increase your enjoyment of the sport of mountain biking.

Glass Fiber Reinforced Gypsum – Advantages of Using GFRG in Construction Applications

Whenever individuals decide to purchase interior architectural elements, whether it’s a couple of delicate medallions, a stunning dome, a sculpture, or a classic fireplace surround, choosing a construction material is always a major decision. As long as the interior element will not be exposed to moisture or dampness, Glass Fiber Reinforced Gypsum is a worthwhile option to consider. This article will outline the major advantages of GFRG as a construction material.

  • GFRG is lightweight and strong: Reinforced with extremely resilient glass fibers, Glass Fiber Reinforced Gypsum is a building material that is quite strong. GRG is also light, weighing in at just two to three pounds per square foot. This is a great combination, allowing for the installation of sturdy elements without extra support.
  • GFRG is malleable and versatile: Unlike other common building materials, fiber reinforced gypsum elements are crafted by casting them in molds. This allows for the creation of almost any size, shape, or texture. GRG is also versatile in terms of available finishes. GFRG elements can be painted with flat latex, or they can be crafted to have a wood grain texture or look like copper, aged bronze, or sandstone.
  • Glass Fiber Reinforced Gypsum is fire resistant: Gypsum, one of the main ingredients in GRG, is a mineral that will not burn. In addition to being fire-resistant, GFRG elements are also capable of protecting areas behind them for approximately two hours.
  • GRG is made of non-toxic materials: Finding green building materials is important for many home and business owners, and GRG is an environmentally-sustainable choice. Fiber reinforced gypsum is made from natural materials that are not considered pollutants. In addition, GFRG does not emit any strong odors that might affect individuals with environmental sensitivities. GFRG is stable and non toxic, so those who own homes, resorts, casinos, restaurants, and retail stores can feel good about using it in indoor environments.
  • Glass Fiber Reinforced Gypsum is a cost-effective choice: GFRG elements are typically a good investment from a financial perspective. They do not typically require extensive maintenance and regular repairs, and are not susceptible to mold, insect infestation, rot, rust, or corrosion like some other building materials. In addition, the appearance of GRG elements can be completely changed by adding a new coat of paint. Finally, fiber reinforced gypsum is a much more affordable material than some of the materials it can replicate, including marble, limestone, and gold.

The Do’s And Don’ts Of DIY Plastering

The most important thing for all DIY tasks is a set of correct tools for plastering and plaster boarding. The vital and useful tools are a large flexible mixing bucket, a featheredge, a Plasterer’s Darby, a float and a hawk.

The bucket is essential for the mixing of plaster or dry wall adhesive. Take a bucket which is easy to clean, because clean tools are important if you want to do a plastering job. A featheredge can also be used as a Plasterers Darby and with it you can achieve straight plasterboard application.

Keep the plasterers float clean all the time. Go in for a stainless steel float, because the others rust if they are not looked after. The hawk is always used along with the float. The plaster is generally held on the hawk and then it is transferred to the wall or ceiling by using the float.

Mixing is a very important phase in a plastering job. With the help of a mixer drill the mixing plaster can be made easily, especially if the quantity is large. It is possible to do the mixing with a piece of wood as well, but the mixer will make it easier.

There are different types of plaster available, but basically there are two coats for each plastering job. First of all there is a backing coat which is browning or bonding plaster. Plasterboard is a better choice than backing plaster, especially if it is a DIY project. It is followed by the finishing plaster which is applied on top of the plasterboard. This is applied as a final coat.

It is important to remember that plaster is only suitable for internal use, when there is no damp. And the mixing is important, because the water has to be clean and cold and you should remember to add the plaster to the water and not the water to the plaster.

Plasterboard is the most common material used nowadays for finishing off internal walls and ceilings. It comes in various sizes and thicknesses and has many edge finishes. Use smaller sheets, though they are a bit expensive than the larger ones, but the larger ones become difficult to handle.

There are special tools to help you for cutting the plasterboard. If you want to use the direct bond method it is important to know the correct technique how to apply the plasterboard with that method. This method is often called the dot and dab method. Working with plasterboard for the ceiling is different than working for a wall.

Let us look at the final coat or the top coat of plaster. This is the most important coat and this coat of plaster is called a skim. Skimming requires practice, so go about it slowly and follow instructions carefully. Just follow certain basic rules like ensuring the smoothness of the surface, the cleanliness of your buckets and tools. Use two coats of finishing plaster instead of one and start off with a wall, which is a bit hidden in your house and gives you room to experiment.

There are some other jobs which need to be mentioned under DIY plastering. There are various types of plasters, and one of them is Artexing. It is important to practice the Artex patterns before experimenting on your wall. Take the easy patterns and learn also how to remove Artex or the textured patterns. Plaster moldings are often used for plastering jobs, but the fit should be right and it is better if it is done by professionals.
