Become an Electrical Engineer

Engineers are applied scientists. This means that electrical engineers are focused on applying the principles of electrics in order to solve industrial and commercial problems. They are involved in the development, design, testing, and research of electrical systems. They may also be heavily consulted during the manufacture or installation of these systems.

The equipment generally includes motors, machinery, wiring, lighting, navigation systems, and communications. The electrical systems that power aircraft and cars are often designed by them.

The career is often conflated with electronic engineers. In many cases, an electrical engineer will have the expertise to work on electronic projects, but they are generally focused more on the creation and transmission of power than on the application of electricity.

On this career, the person will typically spend some time in an office environment, and some time in an industrial environment. More research and design oriented engineers will spend more time in an office environment, while engineers involved in testing and implementation will need more hands-on work with the product.

As with most jobs in engineering, electrical engineering jobs almost always require a bachelor’s degree. A graduate won’t necessarily need to have a degree in electrical engineering. A degree in physics or mathematics, or an engineering degree in a different field, may suffice for the job as long as the applicant has the experience and education necessary to perform their job. The student who would like to take managerial positions or work in more advanced research and development will typically need to obtain a graduate degree.

Most universities will offer this type of engineering, although the level and type of education learned from the program can vary quite a bit depending on the school. Some universities are more theoretical, while others are more industrial. It is important for a student to choose a program that reflects the type of work that they would prefer to do.

Trade Stock Successfully With Emotional Detachment

All Traders understand, to trade successfully and profitably, one must approach trading as a business. Like all brick and mortar businesses, there must be a specific set of business rules in which one conduct business. Preserving capital, ensuring positive cash flow and focusing on capital gains.

Whether you trade in Forex, Future, Commodities or Stock market, all Traders must have a trading rules that includes the element of Fundamental Analysis (FA), Technical Analysis (TA) & Money Management (MM). The trinity of successful trading – FA, TA and MM.

Since most trades are made manually (will leave auto-pilot trading for another article in the near future), there has been little emphasis on the emotional aspect of trading. One assumed that having a trading plan is sufficient to fatten one’s account.

But being human, there is always an emotional attachment to the trade. The mental roller coaster effect as prices goes up and down. This is where PA comes into play… Praying Analysis. Each time trade goes wrong, one starts to pray!

Having knowledge of FA, TA, MM and a Trading plans are not sufficient if Traders are unable to control their emotions. Most traders do not have the discipline to stick to their plans when their mind is at play; the crippling Fear and the possessive greed works well to bring most trading account down. I have been there, and done that.

Each time you have a capital gain from accumulated profit, it gets drawn down very rapidly when you become over confidence and allows the heart to manage the orders instead of the head.

Making Money can be easier if we trade without emotion.

To have a better chance of success, one needs to be emotionally detached to the trade. Don’t fall in love with your counters, your currency pairs or your commodities. Trade based on what you your tickers tell you, set your risk and reward and be able to accept the risk represented in $ form.

Once the ground work is done, all you have to do, to be successfully in trading is: SET AND FORGET.

Once you set your trade based on your trading plans, the next best thing for you to do is, move away from the screen. Get a life outside trading, do something else. Set it, forget it, and very likely, you will profit from it. Staring at your trade brings in the greed and fear part of your emotion. Not looking and staring at your trade has a better chance of increasing your capital!

Happy Trading to you.

5 Most Common Insulation Options

There are plenty of cheap and common insulation materials available on the market today. Many of these have been around for quite some time. Each of these insulations have their own ups and downs. As a result, when deciding which insulation material you should use, you should be sure to be aware of which material would work the best in your situation.

Recently, materials like aerogel (used by NASA for the construction of heat resistant tiles, capable of withstanding heat up to approximately 2000 degrees Fahrenheit with little or no heat transfer), have become affordable and available. One in particular is Pyrogel XT. Pyrogel is one of the most efficient industrial insulations in the world. Its required thicknesses are 50% – 80% less than other insulation materials. Although a little more expensive than some of the other insulation materials, Pyrogel is being used more and more for specific applications.

However, there are many useful insulation materials that are cheap enough to be affordable and useful in bulk. Here are the 5 most common types of insulation materials:

1. Fiberglass

Fiberglass is the most common insulation used in modern times. Because of how it is made, by effectively weaving fine strands of glass into an insulation material, fiberglass is able to minimize heat transfer. The main downside of fiberglass is the danger of handling it. Since fiberglass is made out of finely woven silicon, glass powder and tiny shards of glass are formed. These can cause damage to the eyes, lungs, and even skin, if the proper safety equipment isn’t worn. Nevertheless, when the proper safety equipment is used, fiberglass installation can be performed without incident. Fiberglass is an excellent insulation material, with ratings as high as R-38. If you are seeking a cheap insulation, this is definitely the way to go, though installing it definitely requires safety precautions. Be sure to use eye protection, masks, and gloves when handling this product.

2. Mineral Wool

Mineral wool actually refers to several different types of insulation. First, it may refer to glass wool, which is fiberglass manufactured from recycled glass. Second, it may refer to rock wool, which is a type of insulation made from basalt. Finally, it may refer to slag wool, which is produced from the slag from steel mills. The majority of mineral wool in the United States is actually slag wool. The majority of mineral wool does not have additives to make it fire resistant, making it poor for use in situation where extreme heat is present. When used in conjunction with other, more fire resistant forms of insulation, mineral wool can definitely be an effective way of insulating large areas.

3. Cellulose

Cellulose insulation is perhaps one of the most eco-friendly forms of insulation. Cellulose is made from recycled cardboard, paper, and other similar materials. Some recent studies on cellulose have shown that it might be an excellent product for use in minimizing fire damage. Because of the compactness of the material, cellulose contains next to no oxygen within it. Without oxygen within the material, this helps to minimize the amount of damage that a fire can cause. So not only is cellulose perhaps one of the most eco-friendly forms of insulation, but it is also one of the most fire resistant forms of insulation. However, there are certain downsides to this material as well, such as the allergies that some people may have to newspaper dust. Also, finding individuals skilled in using this type of insulation is relatively hard compared to, say, fiberglass. Still, cellulose is a cheap and effective means of insulating.

4. Polypolyurethane Foam

While not the most abundant of insulations, polyurethane foams are an excellent form of insulation. Nowadays, polyurethane foams use non-chlorofluorocarbon (CFC) gas for use as a blowing agent. This helps to decrease the amount of damage to the ozone layer. They are relatively light, weighing approximately two pounds per cubic foot (2 lb/ft^3). They have an R-value of approximately R-6.5 per inch of thickness. There are also low density foams that can be sprayed into areas that have no insulation. These types of polyurethane insulation tend to have approximately R-3.6 rating per inch of thickness. Another advantage of this type of insulation is that it is fire resistant.

5. Straw Bales

And finally, straw bales. While you might not expect straw bales to be of interest in this world of modern synthetic insulations, you might be surprised at the ratings that straw bales have received. Recent testing made by the Oak Ridge National Laboratory showed that straw bales had as high as R-3 per inch of thickness. While straw itself is not fire resistant, it can still be used in many situations where insulation is needed with fire perhaps being of little or no concern. Also, when used in conjunction with other more fire resistant insulations, straw bales can become an efficient and cheap way to insulate an area.

There are many forms of insulation available, each with their own set of properties. Only by researching each kind thoroughly can you discover which will be the right kind for your particular needs. As a quick overview:

  • Aerogel is more expensive, but definitely the best type of insulation.
  • Fiberglass is cheap, but requires careful handling.
  • Mineral wool is effective, but not fire resistant.
  • Cellulose is fire resistant, eco-friendly, and effective, but hard to apply.
  • Polyurethane is an all around good insulation product, though not particularly eco-friendly.
  • Straw bales are effective and eco-friendly, though not fire resistant.

Hopefully, this will help you in your attempt to find the right insulation for your needs.

How to Lose Leg Fat – Losing Leg Fat For Women

How to lose leg fat is mostly a big concern in women. This is because women store fat on their bottom sections. For example like on their butts, legs, thighs, waist and hips. OK let me get to the point here, You really don’t have to waste money for gym membership. Ask yourself how long and how many times you walk or jog every week? How many times do you do home friendly leg workouts every week? How many times do you do aerobic workouts every week? Chances are that you are not physically active enough like you should. You health is important and if you don’t have money to invest in expensive exercise equipments and gym memberships, Look for low cost free exercises and they are usually fun to do. Exercise 3 times a week for about 30 to 45 minutes. Take some time aside and do this if you want to lose thigh weight and stay healthy. Change, mix your workouts and start slow if you are a beginner.

Combining all these three can increase the chances of losing leg weight and staying healthy. So eat thin, Increase your metabolism using some of these tips and you can find yourself burning fat faster than you expect. The only thing that is on your way is yourself. Make a decision and take some action especially on the physical activity section.

Reverse Osmosis Drinking Water System

What is Reverse Osmosis?

The amount of people that still purchase bottled water for home use never ceases to amaze me. Come on people, it's time to get educated here. You are wasting time and energy, landfill space, and yes, money … Lots of it.

Have you ever heard of reverse osmosis? Did you know that most bottled water manufacturers are using reverse osmosis as a means of purifying the bottled water you are drinking? It's a fact that many people are completely unaware of.

Soon, everyone will know the benefits of reverse osmosis. Reverse Osmosis equipment has only been manufactured for the household consumer for just a few years. Until recently, it was used primarily by major corporations and the US Government for purifying non-potable water supplies throughout the world. It was, and still is, used on large military and commercial ships for purifying seawater, making it suitable for human consumption.

Reverse Osmosis (RO) is often described as filtration, but it is much more complex than that. People sometimes explain it as a filter because it is much easier to visualize using those terms. For instance, the osmosis phenomenon is how our blood feeds each cell in our bodies. As our blood is carried into the smallest of capillaries in our bodies, nutrients actually pass through the cells 'wall to sustain its' life.

For example: If you take a jar of water and place a semi-permeable membrane in it, which by its' construction mimics a cell wall, then divide the jar into two sections and place water on both sides of the membrane to an equal level , nothing happens. But, if you place salt, (or other such dissolved substance), into one side of the jar, you will soon notice that the water level in the salty side begins to rise higher as the unsalted side lowers. This is the natural osmotic pressure at work. The two solutions will continue to try to reach the same level of salt or equilibrium on each side of the membrane by the unsalted water passing through the membrane to dilute the salty water. This will continue until the "head" pressure of the salt water overcomes the "osmotic" pressure created by the differences in the two solutions.

Many years ago, researchers discovered a means to reverse or exploit this natural osmotic process and use it to purify salty ocean water. They found that if they took that same semi-permeable membrane and fed salty water into it with a sufficient amount of pressure on one side of the membrane, to overcome the natural osmotic pressure of the other side, they could actually "manufacture" clean water on the side of the membrane that has no pressure applied to it!

Depending on a membranes' design, and the material it is made from, the amount of TDS, (salt or total dissolved solids), reduction will range from 80 to over 99 per cent. Different minerals have different rejection rates, for instance, the removal rate for a typical TFC (Thin Film Composite) membrane is 99.5% for Barium and Radium 226/228; but only 85.9% for Fluoride and 94.0% for Mercury. Contamination removal rates are also dependent on proper feed-water pressures.

Is it Reverse Osmosis Water Safe To Drink ?

Reverse osmosis water is perfectly safe to drink. There is also a scientific explanation as to why this type of purified water is actually better for you than water that contains high mineral (TDS) content. Water with a high TDS count of over 50 ppm, actually becomes electrically charged and can conduct very small amounts of electric current. High TDS water, under the right circumstances, can actually cause a small electric light bulb to become illuminated! Water with high TDS is typically a solution that is lacking in hydrogen molecules. This type of water often causes de-hydration on the cellular level. Reverse Osmosis water with low TDS on the other hand, has a much lower ability to conduct electrical charges. Typically, Reverse Osmosis water is slightly acidic and loaded with positively charged hydrogen (H +) molecules. This type of water has been scientifically proven to provide superior hydration at the cellular level.

What's the Difference Between Conventional Water Filtration and Reverse Osmosis?

A conventional filtration system, such as that in a refrigerator for instance, will give you nice tasting water, but it will not remove Total Dissolved Solids, such as, SODIUM, MANGANESE, CALCIUM CARBONATE, to name a few, that are present in most municipal tap and well waters. Residential reverse osmosis systems typically incorporate a combination of conventional filtration to remove sediment and other solids, followed by activated carbon adsorption for the removal of organic compounds, chlorine, pesticides and VOC's, prior to the reverse osmosis membrane. The end result is as close to distilled water quality as you can get, with virtually no energy consumption. The typical household water line pressure of 40 psi is all the energy that is required to make the RO system work.

The Technology Side

Just as with many new technologies, when reverse osmosis systems first became available to the public sector, they were used almost exclusively in commercial settings and beyond the justifiable financial reach of the average household consumer. The membranes were very inefficient and wasted a lot of water. The technology has progressed in recent times to the point where it has become an affordable alternative, more efficient and readily available for the average consumer. A typical residential reverse osmosis system has a recovery rate of 30-35%. What this means is that for every gallon of water fed to the RO system, approximately 1/3 of a gallon of purified water will be produced and 2/3's will be wastewater. Most residential installations simply flush the wastewater to the drain. The very nature of the reverse osmosis process does cause some water wastefulness. However, if this waste is a big concern, rather than throwing it down the drain, there are numerous ways to use the wastewater, only limited by one's ability to be resourceful.

Reverse Osmosis Recognized by the United States EPA

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has recently released information stating that one in five Americans, supplied by one-quarter of the nation's drinking water systems, consume tap water that violates EPA safety standards under the Clean Water Act! With this in mind, it is safe to assume that no matter where you live in the United States, at any given time, there is likely to be some toxic substance in your tap water.

It's no wonder why so many people buy bottled water but right? … Read on you may be surprised. The US EPA has stated that many dangerous contaminants can exist in our public water supplies as well as bottled water. One such contaminant is called a "cyst" and yes they are just as disgusting as they sound! Cysts are tiny microscopic organisms that can cause dangerous health problems to even healthy individuals, let alone persons with weakened immune systems. The kicker here is that you do not have to actually drink the water with these organisms in it to become sick. Cysts can be ingested in a number of ways, including just brushing your teeth. They're more common than you think; the elusive cyst has been found in many public water supplies over the past few years and yes, even some bottled waters have been found to contain cysts!

Reverse osmosis is recognized by the EPA as an effective means to remove cysts. The US EPA has even recommended the use of point of use reverse osmosis for the removal of certain contaminants such as cysts found in many water supplies, public or otherwise. In addition, reverse osmosis has been scientifically proven over conventional filtration, to be one of the most effective means of removing the widest spectrum of all other water contaminants.

Chances are your neighbor or someone you know already has a residential reverse osmosis drinking water system installed in their home. It is becoming a popular choice for many educated consumers to have a reliable pure water source at their fingertips. After using the RO system for a while, most people find themselves wondering how they ever did without it.

The Benefits and Beauty of Kalamata Olives

Kalamata olives are a great source of heart healthy monounsaturated fat, among other benefits. This Greek olive also has a wonderful flavor and texture and is used commonly in traditional Greek cooking.

From the Tree to Your Plate

Over 2 million tons of olives are produced in Greece each year, the Kalamata being just one of them. These olives are actually called after their namesake city in the Peloponnese, southern Greece. Their beautiful dark aubergine fruit creates a picturesque scene amongst leafy trees and seaside mountains.

Olives are a fruit, classed botanically as a drupe alongside peaches and plums. The stone commonly kept in the this olive contains two seeds.

Kalamata olives are so delicious, but they actually do not start out that way.

In fact, fresh olives are quite bitter due to the oleuropein, a bitter carbohydrate they contain. To get this out, olives have to be washed with products like lye or soaked in food grade sodium hydroxide.

Once harvested in early winter, the olives are preserved in wine, vinegar or olive oil. A slit is usually cut in the olive to help soak up the brine and give it that strong taste.

The olives from this city are thought to be one of the best due to both their color and meatiness. Sold worldwide in jars or containers they are excellent as a table olive or in dishes. They give homemade pizza an extra kick.

Bountiful Health Benefits

The Kalamata olive not only looks beautiful, it's also very healthy. They're mainly used in olive oil which is commonly known as a very healthy oil.

Some people shy away from olives due to their high fat content but they're actually very good for you. Just like avocadoes the contain monounsaturated fat, touted as heart healthy.

There is so much goodness contained in one little olive. The alpha-linolenic acid in olives helps to reduce the risk of cancers, hypertension and auto immune diseases. It also works as a blood thinner and has been known to help prevent gallstones.

Olives are also teeming with antioxidants which fight free radicals in the body, helping to reduce the risk of disease.

But that's not all. These lovely little fruits are also a good source of vitamins E and A, calcium, copper, iron and magnesium-all beneficial to bones, metabolism and skin. A source of dietary fiber, they're very good for digestion as well.

Can not Get Enough, Try Olives a New Way

If you're tired of eating olives plain or on salads, try making a spread out of them. Make this easy recipe for olive tapenade at home and spread it on sandwiches, crackers, or even use a thin layer on pizza.

Olive Tapenade Recipe:

Coarsely chop 20 pitted Kalamata olives. In a bowl or food processor add a tablespoon of rinsed, drained and chopped capers, a teaspoon of fresh lemon juice and two teaspoons of olive oil. Add some fresh cracked pepper and anchovy paste if that is to your liking. Olive tapenade will last for about two weeks in the refrigerator, but do not worry it will not last that long.

Here's to the olive: a wonderful fruit that contains so much goodness you should never feel guilt over having too many. Top them on pizza, add to your homemade pasta dishes or even pop a couple in your martini. You can never go wrong with Kalamata olives.

Something About the Campus Bar

My friend Jimmy has been running a campus bar in one university for three years. I usually go to his bar to have a rest. When talking about why opening a campus bar, he told me that when he was in university, every time when his friends came to visit him, he had no proper places to welcome his friends apart from in the apartments or restaurants. He said a quiet and elegant place was needed for their communications. So after graduation, he opened this campus bar.

Usually the students will hold their birthday parties here and the bar has become a place where they can release their pressures. Undergraduates nowadays need to release the pressures from study and life. They need a place to chat with their bosom friends, so this bar has played an important role in the university.

Undergraduates are very happy with the establishment of this bar. In such an elegant environment, their manners become more elegant. I also think it is right to open a bar in university.

Also, this bar is the working place for some undergraduates who are poor or who want to accumulate some working experiences. They can come to the bar to serve the guests, cook coffee, make all sorts of drinks and get familiar with all the bar supplies. They get paid here, and they also practice themselves here. It is really a happy thing.

A campus bar expresses its culture essence to people through a healthy and active way. It is not only a place for drinking, but also a place where you can cultivate your elegance. A campus bar interprets its value and development direction through its healthy image; meanwhile we can see that the campus cultures have become more various.

The Birth of New Penis Enlargement Methods

Male enhancement exercises like Kegels and jelqing have been used since thousands of years ago. Although quite a lot of men still advocate this natural way of making their penises grow, a lot of them are also exploring other options. The 21st century is known for the many cultural and technological advances in the world. This does not exclude the seemingly mundane yet very crucial issue of a man's cock size.

The size of the penis has a lot to do with a man's self esteem and satisfaction. More often than not, as small cock is tantamount to a timid guy who barely attracts any crowd, much less, women. It is also quite likely that he has failed relationships with them due to sexual dissatisfaction. Harsh as it may sound, there is just no denying the larger penises have a bigger say in this world.

Recently, the birth of new penis enlargement methods has created commotion in the market both to women and men alike. After all, they are both beneficiaries of larger cocks that perform better. Although it is true that it's not all about the size, a bigger penis is still a better penis in most cases. Due to this, guys just continue to dive into trends that claim to be capable in making them grow bigger. Some men resort to surgery not minding the expense, while some willingly take pills to play a little safer. Those who want to take the absolutely safe way just content themselves with exercise books and videos.

There are other ways that are said to aid in male enhancement. A number of devices are sold in the market readily available to those who are willing to give them a try.

Patches are no longer for muscle pain and fever alone. They are also used for penis enlargement! These self-adhesive patches are said to be very absorbent and work transdermally. They have penis growth formulation that assimilates into the body through the skin. They are patched in the discreet, hairless parts of the body like the chest or the butt. They are changed every three days. Makers of these patches claim they take effect right on the very first week they are used.

Male enhancement creams have been popping up lately. They claim to be capable of enlarging the penis with regular use. Although medical evidence shows that creams can increase blood flow including in the genital area which may help in erection, no ointments have been discovered yet to help in actual penis enlargement.

A stretcher is a device you may put your penis into for a stretch. It is said to aid penile growth both by lengthening and thickening it. Due to a continuous force of traction, the cells in the penis are subjected to multiply therefore resulting to a longer and bigger sex organ. Unlike other methods, using a stretcher claims to give a long-lasting effect on the user because of the tissue growth inside the penis itself.

It is certain that new penis enlargement methods will continue to develop more and more. Bear in mind though, that you should not fail to consider all the advantages, disadvantages, and the risks involved in each of them before deciding to adopt one.

Leaking Roof Repair – Now You Can Do It Yourself

The rainy season sets in and there is a general feeling of joy in the air; fresh green trees and plants. But there comes a dripping sound or you see a water stain and your heart sinks to the bottom. Another roof leak!

It is common that a roof develops leaks and that is usually long before the whole roof needs repairing. You do not have to call a repairer right away; minor leaks can be fixed on your own and that's what we are going to tell you in this article. And a minor leak does not mean that it can be ignored; every roof leak needs to be fixed immediately or it can lead to problems like mold, damaged insulation, rotted framing and destroyed ceiling.

Finding the exact location of a roof leak is the toughest part. You can guess a leak from a water stain on the ceiling or running down the wall. Remove the shingles from the suspected area and check in the roofing material for any probable damage because sometimes the leaks are a good distance away from the actual damage.

Sometimes the leak is also due to a curled shingle, so straighten any curved shingles you find by using heat such as from a hair dryer. Re-attach the straightened shingles with roof cement. Check for the shingles that come off easily when lifted. Fix them with compound or replace them entirely.

For inspecting a roof leak in connections, check for spaces between the connections. If you find the chaulking to be damaged, reapply it. Make sure to remove the damaged chaulking first with a putty knife so that the area is clean to work on.

For damaged shakes, first split them with a hammer and a chisel by sliding the chisel under the damaged shake. Take out the nails or work around them to not damage a good shake. Cut the new shake to be slightly smaller than the old one and replace it back, fixing in place with nails. Seal the shake with chaulking compound to make it permanent.

For roll roofing, you will find blisters or cracks in the roofing material. To mend these blisters, cut the damaged area carefully using a utility knife and dry the area. Spread roofing cement in the split roll and put it in place by pressing down. For best results, drive one or two nails in the blister you just repaired and then coat the entire repaired, and a little bit of surrounding area with the roofing cement.

Fixing a roof yourself is easy; you only need to know these simple steps – and it is completely satisfying. Last but not the least; take precautionary measures before you set out on repairing a roof leak yourself. Avoid working on a wet roof; choose a sunny day to repair. Wear rubber sole shoes and a ladder framework for secure anchoring and take adequate measures for your safety.

Do It Yourself Landscaping Made Simple

First things first, figure out what you are capable of doing on your own and what your limitations are to determine how far you can go before you need to call for help. Your project map will include; your style, elements that fit your skill level, starting with a clean worksite, running your ideas by a professional, cost considerations, flexibility, and evaluating your time and financial investment.

What’s your style

Many do-it-yourselfers, have taken pictures or cut images out of magazines to summarize their dreams and provide a visual of how they want everything to turn out. You may consider creating a file with all your favorite items all together so you can use it a foundation for your plan. Your current landscape condition and extent of your desired outcome, may determine how much you might or might not be able to accomplish. Some people may be content with a few changes to what they already have, like adding a few new beds or landscape edging surrounding their lawn. Some might focus on simple landscapes which include optimizing existing landscape elements. These two categories easily fit do-it-yourself landscaping. Others wanting to maximize square footage with numerous shrubs, complicated flower and garden beds surrounded by extensive creative edging, having plenty of complicated tasks requiring some heavy lifting to prepare for the extensive project, might want to include a professional landscape architect as part of your plan.

Evaluate your skill level

Do your friends say you have a green thumb and that they are jealous of your grace and ease making your yard look so beautiful, or do you find that you just can’t get it right? At whatever level you find yourself determine if do-it-yourself landscaping fits. Research is a good place to start, if you find that you can envision your yard changing and see yourself completing many difficult projects, if you are familiar with different soil types, plants, shrubs and gardening, then do-it-yourself landscaping may be just what the doctor ordered.

Eliminating Clutter

As you lay out your project the first thing on your list should be getting rid of extra clutter, undone projects and extra pieces, that may stand in the way of completing your ideal landscaping transformation.

Professional Advice

If you are determined to go it alone, you may consider at least running your plan by someone that has done something like this before, or a landscape professional, to make sure you have the pieces in order and can plan for any gotchas that may pop up.

Cost Considerations

Some landscape elements may vary in cost due to changes in items used, they could even cost less than you originally planned or you might encounter adding things you didn’t plan on that will drive your costs up. To figure out what fits into your budget, map out each section separately closely scrutinizing items used, then put it all together for a final tally. If you have included a landscape professional in your planning stages, consult with them to help determine a cost baseline to work from.

Don’t be Reactive

Many people are impulsive and buy on emotion, you may have found yourself in years past buying that beautiful flower pot, those landscaping bricks, or that beautiful lattice, and over the years looking back saying to yourself, why did I buy that in the first place. Having a methodical approach to your landscaping project will help you lay out exactly what you want and how it will make you feel. Remember it is art that you are working with, only this is not a piece of paper you can just wad up and throw away. Evaluate each element and how it will work with everything around it. Be patient especially in the planning stage, and do everything one step at a time.

Flexibility + Vision = Beauty

Planning may not be the end all, as you begin your project allow for additions that may come along that work better. In your planning stage include some flexibility with each area of focus so as to be able to incorporate something you come across that you really love. You may kick yourself if you just plunge in and finish your project with blinders on then realizing after the fact that you would have liked to include… You may however want to sit back down and make sure the new feature fits with everything on your plan before adding it in. Having a flexible approach to your dreams will bring it all together in your beautiful art landscape.

Time and Money

Developing a plan requires that you put real elements in place along with numbers to realistically project your investment of time and expense. Decide how much time you can devote and establish a dollar figure you are willing to invest to make this project a reality. Stick to your plan, pay as you go so you don’t end up working at it for the rest of your lives and then working to pay off the credit card for years to come.

Corrections in Individual Fencing Lessons I

The individual lesson on the plastron of the fencing master has long been the gold standard in the range of fencing lessons for the intermediate to advanced fencer. In this lesson format the student works one-on-one with his or her coach to learn a new skill, to understand its application, and to develop its execution in the bout situation. Because of this individual attention, there is a better chance to correct errors and to have those corrections be internalized by the athlete.

Corrections in individual lessons to a great extent depend on four elements: the intent of the lesson, the skill level of the student, the student’s level of correction response, and the closeness of the relationship between master and fencer. As a result the form of corrections is highly variable, both between students and even in corrections in different lessons with the same athlete.

The lesson objective determines the type and range of correction. In a teaching lesson, correction is similar to that in group lessons, with all of the corrective steps used in that type of lesson. In addition, student execution of the skill can be refined by continuous correction of that skill toward a desired range of performance.

The method of correction is different in the other common lesson types. In a training lesson, the assumption is that the student can execute the skill. As a result corrections are minimized and are only directed toward major deviations from the accepted range of performance. Correction now is mainly to increase speed and accuracy of performance, and is achieved by coach acceleration, narrowing of opportunities to hit, and by rewarding errors with a hit or serious threat of one. The same approach applies to bouting lessons. In training and bouting lessons those corrections not made by coach action can usually be achieved by reminding the experienced athlete of correct performance orally.

The warm-up lesson is a special case. The purpose of the warmup lesson is not to teach the athlete skills or tactics. Rather the objective is to get the fencer to a physiological and psychological state of readiness to perform at a high level in a competition. Corrections other than a reminder of one significant vulnerability and of tactical choices have the potential to confuse and even demoralize the athlete. The athlete is not going to learn and be able to apply a new skill by the pool round, and they are not going to fix major or even minor faults. The morning of the competition your fencer has what she has, and you job is to get the athlete ready to fight with that capability.

When you stand in front of your athlete to teach or to train or to prepare or to warm-up you must adjust your corrections to the goals and requirements of the lesson. Making the right types of corrections helps you teach a better lesson.
