How Goods Are Shipped on Oceanic Vessels

All ships are built according to the way they transport goods. This article will discuss the three most popular ways of transporting goods by ship.

Container Shipping

Today, most international shipping is done using containers. There are many advantages to be gained by using containers for shipping.

  • Being able to ship the container door to door
  • Containers are easy to load and unload. They stack just like Lego’s
  • Containers provide an added security benefit. Thieves cannot see what is in the container.
  • It is easy to transport containers from one location to another (by rail or by road).

Containers come in two sizes even though there are over 20 different internationally standardized types of containers. A container can be refrigerated or open top but still must be one of the two basic sizes:

  • 20ft: 589cm (l) x 235cm (w) x 239cm (h) – volume 33.2 cubic meters
  • 40ft: 1,203cm (l) x 235cm (w) x 239cm (h) – volume 67.7 cubic meters

A large container ship can transport more than 8,000 20ft containers.

Break-bulk

Break-bulk translates into any non-bulk cargo that is not packaged. For example goods that come in crates, drums, on pallets, or even in sacks will be shipped break bulk. Break-bulk is usually used for the transport of products such as fresh fruit and vegetables. It is also the preferred mode of transportation when the port of destination is not able to handle compartmentalized goods.

The problem with break bulk transport is that the goods are easily damaged as they are carried freely on the ship. Damaged can be reduced by surrounding the cargo with soft packing materials in order to absorb any blows while in transport.

Bulk Shipping

Certain commodities such as coal, ore and oil, which are usually shipped in very large amounts, will be carried in bulk cargo ships.

Heat Pumps Are Ready To Replace Air Conditioners

A Heat Pump is essentially the same as an air conditioner, but with one extra feature added. On cold days, a heat pump reverses its operations and heats the house instead of cooling it. What makes heat pumps stand out among other heaters is their heat gain. Today’s heat pumps at 0 Degrees Celsius outside return 3kw of heat for every 1 kw of electricity fed into them. It sounds too good to be true and immediately begs the question: Why don’t we use heat pumps in Toronto?

Low efficiency used to be the main reason. Up to 2006, most heat pumps were based on low-efficiency 10 SEER air conditioners, and they could not run at low outdoor temperature. In 2006 manufacturing of new units with less than 13 SEER efficiency was outlawed. Virtually overnight, new heat pumps’ efficiency increased by almost 30% and kept rising.

Heat Pump Pro’s

1. Heat pumps can be used in Toronto almost year-round. Air conditioners are only used for a few short weeks of summer.

2. The price difference between heat pumps and air conditioners is becoming smaller and smaller. Ductless units lead the way. Today ductless heat pumps cost only $200 more than their equivalent air conditioners. At this small premium, ductless heat pumps are already a no-brain winner against ductless air conditioners.

3. Central air heat pumps may still cost $1000 more that equivalent central air conditioner, but even at this premium a heat pump is an easy choice instead of an air conditioner if you use electricity, propane, or oil for heating.

4. “Smart” hydro meters are coming. Here in Toronto, electricity at night and on the weekends will cost only 3.2 c per kilowatt. At this price and at 300% efficiency, electricity is becoming the energy of choice for heating.

5. Heat pumps take advantage of global warming. As winters in Toronto are getting milder, heat pumps are becoming more profitable.

6. No reason to worry about carbon monoxide poisoning or fuel (gas, propane, oil) escape inside of the house.

Heat Pump Con’s

Heat pumps need supplemental heat. This can come from either a fuel-based furnace or an electric heater. There are two main reasons for this.

1. Because the same system is used for both heating and cooling, the heat pump is limited by the smaller of the two needs – the cooling one. On the coldest days of winter, the heating capacity of the heat pump may not be sufficient.

2. Cold outdoor temperature can also lower the heating capacity of the heat pump to the point where it has to be turned off and backup heat needs to be brought in.

Supplemental heat is not as a big a deal as it sounds. A couple of electric strips can be easily accommodated by the ductwork at a cost of a few hundred dollars. On the other hand, it may spare you buying a new furnace at $3,000.

And last, but not least – you can finally get rid of fuel heat inside of your house. People and fuels don’t really mix well in the same space.

Chillers – How Does a Water Chiller Work?

Water chillers are everywhere – they are used to air condition large industrial, commercial, and institutional facilities, and are used to lower the temperatures of all kinds of equipment, from robotic machinery to computer parts. They can also be used to cool down drinking water to pleasant levels, or to provide cooler water for ingredients in food. However, not many people actually know how they work, and knowing this can help you decide what kind you need, as well as the size. In this article, we’ll take a look at some basic information regarding how chillers operate, as well as their use in daily life.

They function using four main parts – a compressor, an evaporator, a condenser, and a metering system. Since the purpose of a it is to remove heat from somewhere it is not wanted, like mechanical parts or liquids such as water, it sucks up heat using a refrigerant, a chemical that is very heat absorbent. The refrigerant then carries this heat to a condenser, where it is sent into the atmosphere by means of an air, evaporation, or water cooled heat exchanger. Sometimes cooling towers are attached to the heat exchanger if extra cooling power is needed. Once the refrigerant leaves the condenser, it is compressed (thus lowering its temperature) and sent back to absorb more heat.

One of the parts that best defines how well chillers will work is the compressor, which will generally come in one of four forms, being either reciprocating compressors, which work like a crankshaft in a car, scrolling compressors, which look like spirals, centrifugal compressors, which work like fans, or rotary screw compressors, which look like long screws suspended in tubes.

Basically, the principal is that a refrigerant coolant gathers heat, and then uses an evaporator heat exchange to remove that heat. The evaporator sends the heat out into the atmosphere, while the refrigerant is subsequently sent to a condenser where it is turned back into a liquid and then compressed, moving back to the heat source. This allows large pieces of machinery and components that need to be kept at a low temperature to have their heat easily regulated. It can also be used in such purposes as creating cool, pleasant drinking water. The heat coming off the chillers can be used to create hot water as well, in cooler environments where natural water actually needs to be warmed up.

Be Determined To Succeed

Determination to succeed comes only when you feel positive about success. Faith in yourself can be the one and only thing that enables you to attain the targeted goal in life. Everyday we come across several instances that repeatedly make us feel that nothing is impossible on this earth and even beyond. So whatever you aim at, if complemented by determination, endurance and pursuance, is bound to fetch you success even if luck plays the villain. Novels, poems, drams, movies and songs in every language have told about tales of successes where determination has played the protagonist. If you stick to what you want, you are bound to get it, although it may be after a prolonged hardship.

Keep faith in yourself

If you have faith in yourself and your ambition is firm, you can knock out any trouble and pave a way to success. Some failures, no wonder, cause depression and you tend to lose self confidence; but why not make that failure a strong pillar or a lesson in life and move towards the goal with a new gusto? Self confidence allows you to develop a realistic view of yourself where you are aware of your flaw and skills at the same time. Suppress the failures with your self confidence; always see the world in a new light.

Resolution for success

Close your eyes and promise to yourself that you have to attain your set target no matter how smoggy it appears right now. If you make a promise to yourself you will be the sole person responsible to make it successful. Try to focus on the goal and do not aim at any other thing. There are many other things in life that would divert your attention, but you should be focused on your resolution.

Find ways to motivate yourself

You should read good books and follow a mentor who will guide you through the process of attaining success. Goal setting is extremely important; it allows you to achieve what you want. A firm idea of your aim can always instigate you towards success. Try to hunt for the ways that can help in motivating you; and take you towards achieving a certain goal.

Fix your goal and just avoid looking in any other distractions that beckon. If your target is set and you are determined to achieve it, then be blind to all other things and give your 100% to achieve it.

How A Barometer Measures Air Pressure

A barometer is a device for measuring atmospheric pressure. The average atmospheric pressure at sea level is 1 atmosphere, which is the pressure that will support a column of mercury 760mm (29.92 inches) high, ie, about 1Kg / cm2 (14.71 1b./in2). This would correspond to the pressure exerted by a column of air about 5 miles (8 Km) high if its density were constant and equal to that at sea level. This explains why the barometric pressure on the top of a mountain is, say, 10,000 ft. (3000m) high, the column of air pressing down at the top is only about 3 miles (assuming constant density). Actually the atmospheric pressure at any particular altitude is never constant, but varies by relatively small amounts about the average. These variations provide data for weather forecasts. When a rubber suction pad is pressed against a smooth wall, it will remain adhering to the wall. By pressing the pad down flat against the wall surface the air is expelled from the cavity under the pad and a vacuum is formed there.

The air pressure which originally acted in that cavity now no longer thrusts against the inside of the pad. When the latter is released, it will remain in the compressed position because the air pressure acts on the outside only and thus presses the edge of the pad down so firmly that no air will penetrate into the cavity, which therefore remains void of air.

The external air pressure thus keeps the suction pad firmly pressed against the wall. Difference of air pressure is also utilised when we drink a liquid through a straw. Air is sucked out of the straw, and the barometric air pressure, which acts upon the surface of the liquid in the glass, will force the liquid up through the straw.

If a long glass tube, which is sealed at one end and open at the other, is filled with mercury and is then stood upright, with the open end downwards, in a dish containing mercury, then so much mercury will flow out of the tube until a column of mercury not more than 760 mm in height above the mercury surface in the dish remains. The air pressure which acts upon the surface of the mercury in the dish is therefore able to hold up a 760 mm high mercury column.

"666"

666! Quote;”So, 666 is the culmination or

best/worst effort of the three primary areas of humanity and will

initiate the “worst times the earth has ever seen or will ever see

again”=Total Deception.” Unquote.

This was a nice effort on your part to try to Identify the meaning of 666, but this is not what the Bible states is the meaning or purpose. Rev 13:18 Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six.

This is indicating that the number is not a conglomeration of mankind’s faults or attributes, but of a charismatic man, of uncommon speaking ability, that will turn the world to him, one way or another. Here we see A religion or copy of a religion, brokered by the Beast (Anti-Christ.) that will seduce many, this will be his trade mark. To be anti-Christ is to denigh the Father, Son and Holy Ghost, for all three are one. Mankind’s faults or attributes, are all based on one thing and one thing only, Sin. So the, so called, three primary areas of humanity have no connection to the identity of the Anti-Christ but will only add to his power.

The number 666 is an attribute of the Anti-Christ. This is his way of controlling all religions, until he can eliminate all but his. His religion may be a form of Christianity and Judaism combined together to deceive the very elect of God.

Could Mohammedanism or another form of Judaism be the religion that takes over the world, or could a man of peace call for a combination of the three major religions to bring about peace. We see that Mohammedanism (aka; Islam.)is the major religion in the middle east, this being a major player in the instability of the region.

The number, 666, could be a numerical value of an Islamic Individual with Jewish ties of the past, making Him acceptable to both the Islamic world and the Jews. This man must be able to broker a pact between the Jews and the Islamic factions.

Islam will never give up Jerusalem nor the Dome of the Rock, where the Third Temple must be built, The site of the Temple of Solomon.

The Anti-Christ and His number,666, must be an individual and not just human attributes, for Israel is looking for a Messiah, this must be fulfilled according to prophecy. There fore the Anti-Christ being a man will give good reason to the Muslims, why Israel should be given this area to rebuild their temple.

Is there proof of this in Scripture? Yes, We see this in the statement of Luke 18:7; And shall not God avenge his own elect, which cry day and night unto him, though he bear long with them? For the Apostle Paul stated that we are Jews inwardly, so we become the elect of God by adoption through Christ and into the House of Israel through belief, Gods Chosen.

Continuing with Mark 13:19-20;

For in those days shall be affliction, such as was not from the beginning of the creation which God created unto this time, neither shall be.

And except that the Lord had shortened those days, no flesh should be saved: but for the elect’s sake, whom he hath chosen, he hath shortened the days.

ELECT’, n. One chosen or set apart; applied to Christ.

Behold my servant, whom I uphold; mine elect, in whom my soul delighteth. Isa 42.

1. Chosen or designated by God to salvation; predestinated to

glory as the end, and to sanctification as the means; usually with a

plural signification, the elect.

Shall not God avenge his own elect? Luke 18.

If it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect. Mat 24.

He shall send his angels–and they shall gather his elect from the four winds. Mat 24.

2.Chosen; selected; set apart as a peculiar church and people; applied to the Israelites. Isa 45. Dan 8:12 And an host was given him against the daily sacrifice by reason of transgression, and it cast down the truth to the ground; and it practised, and prospered.

Dan 8:13 Then I heard one saint speaking, and another saint said unto that certain saint which spake, How long shall be the vision concerning the daily sacrifice, and the

transgression of desolation, to give both the sanctuary and the host to be trodden under foot?

Mat 24:15 When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, (whoso readeth, let him understand:)

Lengerke; According to this, the meaning is, that the “host,” or the Jewish people, were given to him at the same time, or in connection with the daily sacrifice. The conquest over the people, and the command respecting the daily sacrifice, were simultaneous. Both passed into his hands, and he exercised jurisdiction over them both.

Where Jesus is righteousness, Love and Compassion, the Anti-Christ will be Hate, Control and destruction, especially of his enemies and Jews.

Rev 17:10-11; And there are seven kings: five are fallen, and one is, and the other is not yet come; and when he cometh, he must continue a short space.

And the beast that was, and is not, even he is the eighth, and is of the seven, and goeth into perdition. Perdition here meaning the like character and destiny of the individual and his religion.

The number, 666, is a sign or banner of Control and conquest, signifying the power of the anti-Christ. This number will be forced on many, it will not be a computer chip or anything else that is not visible. The mark will be such as can be seen by the eye and be recognized as a property mark showing ownership of that person by the anti-Christ.

Barnes states of the number; The plain meaning is, that the number 666 would be so connected with his name, or with what would properly designate him, that it could be determined who was meant by finding that number in his name or in his proper designation.

Rev 13:16-17; And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads:

And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.

Be not deceived by people setting dates, times, or years, the end will not come until all prophecy is fulfilled and no man knows the day nor hour and neither can man figure it out. ars Mar 13:20 –

Bathroom Design – The Call of Nature

Many people like the idea of bathroom design that spotlights nature. TV advertising shows a person washing hair or showering under a pristine waterfall, and it strikes a chord within us. Nature is, to most people, linked to ideas of cleanliness. Clean and green.

A nature bathroom design focuses on this inner response. It builds on the theme, incorporating water, trees, rocks, grass, and flowers. It may include fish or seashells. Anything that is a part of nature is potentially a part of a nature bathroom design.

Private Spa

A nature bathroom design can achieve the feeling of a private spa. It is said that the word "spa" comes from the town of Spa, Belgium. That town has been known for its deep, soaking baths and relaxing atmosphere from the reign of Julius Caesar. Achieve that relaxing atmosphere with nature's designs. Keep your colors warm, your design quiet, and your spirit free.

Natural Lighting

Natural, soft lighting is relaxing. Work skylights into your bathroom design, if possible, to let in the natural light. If skylights are not possible, use long, narrow windows in the upper part of your walls. Make the bathroom airy.

Halogen lighting is more natural than more conventional incandescent bulbs. Install dimmer switches so that you can enjoy relaxing light for a deep tub soak, or bright light for personal grooming.

Natural Walls

A nature bathroom design originates in the backdrop of natural walls. Make them set the tone. Grasscloth wallpaper, treated to withstand the humid conditions, is a textured natural wall treatment in muted tones of green and tan. Consider using marble wall tiles on the lower part of the wall. Choose colors that resemble nature's rocks. Alternatively, choose warm wood wainscoting for the lower wall to give the feeling of trees in your bathroom design.

Natural Floor

Your floor, too, should be natural. If you have used light colors on the walls, use dark flooring. If your walls are dark, use light flooring. Skip the carpeting and vinyl. Choose ceramic tile or laminate wood flooring for a more natural look in your bathroom design. If the budget allows, consider natural stone flooring such as travertine or marble.

Natural Showers and Tubs

Your nature bathroom design should be mirrored in your choice of shower or tub. A marble or imitation marble tub is a good choice. Use warm, deep brown shades of marble. Where price is not a consideration, look for a natural wood or stone tub.

If you want a shower stall instead of a tub, choose a clear glass stall with swinging door. Install rock wall tile inside the shower, and a rain shower head.

Natural Vanity and Sink

Wood and stone are important to carry the nature bathroom design into the vanity and sink. Your vanity is the bathroom's focal point. Bamboo would be a good choice of wood. Mount a stone vessel sink on top of the vanity for a clean, natural looking bathroom design.

Natural Faucets

Look for faucets with a bamboo design. The most natural resemble upright bamboo sections intersected by a second, angled section. The second section ends in an inch or so of half bamboo, allowing water to flow forth as it does in Asian fountains. Choose a metal with a bamboo wood tone finish.

Natural Accessories

Once you have completed the larger part of your nature bathroom design, you will want to accessorize in the same theme. Look for natural materials for accessories. Use wood freely – towel bars and shelves – mirrors framed in wood. Use wicker baskets for extra towels or magazines. A hollowed out stone makes a good soap holder. Hang a picture or two, each showing a nature scene.

Natural Plants

A nature bathroom design would not be complete without plants. If you have sufficient light, use real plants. Hanging, trailing plants are especially appropriate in the climate of a bathroom. If you have insufficient light, or do not want the care of real plants, choose good quality silk plants that will keep their realistic look over several years.

Helpful Tip

You will achieve the best results by taking time to plan your entire nature bathroom design before making the first purchase.

Design Styles – Modern

Modern Style can be confusing to many, not only because it is notoriously ambiguous, but it also defies its very name. "Modern", in the way that most people think of it, means "of present times" or "up to date", but in fact Modern design is rooted in social and economic ideals that began in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

The social and economic ideals of modernism play a role in the Modern design aesthetic. Though the design reform movement began in the 19th century, it gained a more mainstream following in the 1920's. Due to social and economic unrest in Europe, the climate of change and rebellion against traditional values, art, religion, and design was in full swing. After World War II, Modern style gained popularity, but lost much of its association with many of the socio-economic ideals. It became about the design and not the philosophy behind it. Consequently, "post-modernism" comes onto the scene during the 1960's. Though rooted in modernism, it criticized the relevance of some design elements. When a design concept spans many decades, it naturally follows that there will be sub- categories within the main style. Several styles are classified as "modern" including Art Deco, Mid Century Modern, International style, and Post Modern. Though they all share sleek lines, open spaces, simple embellishments, and clear uncluttered surfaces, each decade has its individual traits. The best way to go about finding which one you like is to look at several pictures and find what suits you. Of course, mixing these sub styles is a great way to bring interest and personality to a space.

Here are a few ideas to help create Modern style:

-Colors- Restrained palettes are common including: off white, grey, brown, and black. White is the most popular choice because it embodies the clean sculptural feel of modern design. Often there is a pop of bright or bold color somewhere in the room, either in an accessory or rug. With the extensive use of glass, often the outdoors is integrated into the interior space offering colors of nature.

-Furnishings- The furnishings in Modern style are more like pieces of art. Their shapes are simple but also innovative and unique. Descriptive names such as "cube", "egg" and "swan" chairs are a small sample of the creative products. Leather, chrome, and steel are finishes to remember with Modern design. With simplicity seen everywhere in a Modern space, furniture is a great way to bring interest to a space.

-Artwork And Accessories- Art is often abstract or pop art. Bright bold colors and geometric shapes dominate. Most importantly, though, choose something that you like. It is tempting to buy it if it "goes" but make sure that it is something you will not mind staring at for a while. Accessories are a great place to throw in some period specific details. For instance, an Art Deco silver cocktail shaker or a 60's pop art poster can spark conversation.

-Putting It all together- If Modern design is so hard to pin down, and encompassing several sub-styles, how do you get a cohesive sleek space and not end up looking like you have not moved in yet? Choosing pieces carefully, for their form as well as function, is key. If storage is an issue, be sure to include furniture that can keep clutter at bay. A fabulous lamp will go a long way to bring a room together. Most of all make you love it. Design should be fun, and be about what you like. So do not be afraid, go for it!

Cleveland Golf Putters

Cleveland Golf is more famous for its lines of wedges and wood clubs, but they have an interesting line of putters as well which offer a nice variety of choices even though they only have about a dozen models in their latest offerings.

Cleveland Golf Putters GM2 Exchange Product Line

These putters are the latest in the high end of the Cleveland Golf Putters lines. Their particular unique feature is a set of exchangeable weights that offer the golfer the opportunity to customize the clubs and account for different conditions or to compensate for certain tendencies in his or her putter stroke. That is, if a golfer tends to hit putts short, more weight can be added to have the ball travel further with the same stroke. One can adjust for fast or slow greens in the same manner, or for greens of different types of grass that roll differently. The putter heads can be adjusted from 320 grams to 370 grams, and more or less weight can also be added to the head or toe areas to account for individual preferences. There are five putters in this product line, two mallet style designs, two blade inspired putters, and a sort of combination of the two called the boomerang model. The putters are simply called GM2 Exchange numbers 1 through 5.

Exchange model 1 is a mallet style with a heel shafted putter. The body is made from milled aluminum, and there is a lighter composite aluminum face insert. Of course this type of design will have a high MOI, or moment of inertia, which reduces twist or turn of the clubface on putts not struck exactly on the sweet spot. There is a very prominent alignment aid, and I personally think this is a nice looking putter with an excellent design. Model number 2 is has essentially the same features, although it is a center shafted putter and is available for left handed golfers. Exchange model 3 is called the Boomerang, and that is a pretty good description. The putter looks to have two wings behind the toe and heel of the club, and a rounded arc which makes up the boomerang section, with the arc bending in toward the putter face. This model has a double bended shaft. Model number 4 is a blade inspired design. The putter has a bent neck shaft and a ¾ shaft offset. Its body is made of milled 304 stainless steel. This club also comes in left handed models. Finally, Model 5 is essentially the same as number 4 with a couple of exceptions. This putter has a plumber’s hosel as well as a 1 ½ shaft offset. Both number 4 and 5 are heel and toe weighted to increase the MOI of the putters.

Cleveland Visual Performance (VP(TM)) Golf Putters

This line of putters consists if three clubs and sports a unique feature. That is, these clubs have an alignment aid that allows the golfer to be certain his or her head is directly over the ball and that the hands are in the proper position. A number of experts feel that the eyes of the golfer should be directly over the ball, including Dave Pelz, the well-known short game guru and author of “Putt Like the Pros” and other books. In any case this alignment feature will allow the golfer to make sure he is lining up the same each time, and this should help to minimize inconsistencies in his stroke. The VP 1 putter is a blade inspired design with a slanted plumber’s hosel and a full shaft offset. It also has a soft elastomer face insert for better feel and control. The V2 putter head very closely resembles the V1, but this putter has a different hosel. It has what is called a C-Neck hosel with a half shaft offset. The same face insert and alignment aids are on both clubs. The V3 model is a great looking mallet style putter (I confess to liking mallets with a modern look and design). This putter will have an exceptionally high MOI, and it has a double bend shaft with a ¾ shaft offset. All the other features are included, including the alignment and setup aids and the face insert.

Designed By Putters- Limited Editions For a Little Nostalgia

The Designed By 1905 is a remake of the old Calamity Jane style blade putter. Cleveland has incorporated a soft metal material previously introduced in wedges that has been acclaimed for providing a soft feel. If you really like the old traditional styles but appreciate the latest technologies, the Designed By series might be for you. The Designed by 1948 looks like an old Bull’s Eye style, but once again using more modern materials. Both putters come with soft leather grips to complement the nostalgic styling.

I really like the Cleveland Golf Putter line. It has lots to offer, several areas of unique innovation, and quite a few choices for a line with only a dozen offerings. A fair number of pros on the PGA Tour are using these putters, so they must perform well as well.

Apartment Rentals Make Sense in Today's Economy

In the economic situation we're in today, apartment rentals make more sense than ever. Owning a home is great, but apartment rentals stand the test of time when it comes to being practical, saving some money, and avoiding all kinds of hassle that homeownership brings.

Owning A Home Is Not For Everyone

It's not that home ownership is a bad thing, but really just that many people would benefit from apartment rentals instead of buying before they're really ready to buy. Apartment rentals are a great way for those just getting on their feet to start off in life. Plus, renting an apartment is usually the most affordable variety of housing, allowing renters to save up enough cash to make a more solid down payment on a house once the time is right.

Over the last ten years or so, banks were practically desperate to loan as much money as they could. After all, that's how they make money and stay in business. It just so happens that mortgage lending was the perfect way to do that, because most of the time with mortgages, the home secures the amount borrowed. It's was a win-win situation for banks.

However, the banks and mortgage lenders got a little bit too overzealous with their lending practices – they were lending all kinds of money to people who really should not have been buying homes in the first place. Instead, these real world folks would be much better off sticking to apartment rentals while saving up for a home they can really afford, not just buying a home that the bank says they can make the numbers work for.

More Benefits To Apartment Rentals

Yes, despite what the home loan lenders want everyone to believe, there really are a lot more benefits to an apartment rental than meets the eye. Besides living in an apartment to save money for a serious down payment on a home, many people absolutely love apartment rentals for a variety of additional reasons:

* Apartments are low maintenance – Usually all repairs and every day maintenance like mowing the lawn and shoveling snow are taken care of, saving all kinds of time and hassle.

* Apartment rentals do not require a big commitment – Taking into account the standard six or twelve month leases, people that prefer not to be tied down are practically free to move about as they please.

* Renting apartments is wise in the short term – When you're only planning on staying in an area for a year or two, apartment rentals are definitely the way to go, simply because the first couple of years worth of house payments only cover the closing costs anyway.

* There are no real estate taxes – There's nothing worse than getting stuck with a several thousand dollar a year property tax bill, especially when just starting off in life. By renting instead of buying, the landlord is effectively picking up the tax bill for you.

Again, as mortgage lending continues to get stricter and stricter, thanks to the lending industry's own lack of fiscal responsibility, there's should be no shame in renting an apartment instead of buying a home. Just think, apartment rentals have been the traditional way to get started for decades and decades.

3 Types of Flat Roof Materials

The roofing industry is seeing more and more new materials being introduced to the market, year after year. Some more costly than others, while others more eco-friendly than some. But regardless of why you might be in the market for a new flat roof, it is what you are looking for in a new roof that matters. There are three kinds of flat roof materials currently available on the market. Although you will notice they are a bit more expensive than alternative materials, they are undeniably worth the investment in the long run. Continue reading to learn more about the three flat roofing materials used in the home renovation and construction industry.

Flat Roofs

The roofing materials for flat roofs are measured in “squares” which is equivalent to 100 square feet. They generally cost anywhere between $250 and $350 per square, but prices can vary depending on the retailer and roof size. Warranties for flat roofs are typically good for 10 or 20 years, but with professional installation and routine maintenance, they can last up to 25 years or more. It is important to choose a reputable and honest general contractor or roofing company for flat roof installation and repair services.

Modified Bitumen

Modified bitumen is a single-ply roll roofing material infused with mineral-based exterior. This roofing material is homeowner-friendly in terms of installation. There are peel-and-stick versions available on the market for those who wish to install their own new roofing. But there are also versions that must be installed with professional equipment; a process that involves heat the adhesive as the material is rolled out. It is a popular choice because its light-colored exterior reflects heat, which reduces energy bills. Also, it is moderately priced, right in between the cost of the other roofing materials. Since the application process is a fire hazard, it should not be installed in an occupied property. One downfall is that it’s not resistant to scuff marks and tears.

Built Up Roof (BUR)

BUR is the common hot-tar and gravel roofing we see on several homes and buildings throughout the city. It is assembled with alternating plies (3 or more) of waterproof materials, hot tar, and ballasted gravel. Today, these roofing materials are manufactured with more advanced materials like fiberglass membranes, when before hot tar paper was the principle component. Although heavy, smelly, and messy to install, BUR can be a promising choice for some homeowners. Not only is it fire-retardant, it is the cheapest of all the roofing materials so budgets can stay intact. But it should not be installed in a home or building that is occupied. This is a perfect choice for those remodeling a property that is still vacant. Keep in mind that it is a big job that requires the services of a professional roofing contractor.

Rubber Membrane

Rubber roofing is an excellent choice for properties in warm climates. It is effectually resistant to sunlight damage and can be installed one of three ways: glued-on, anchored with fasteners, or ballasted with stone. It is highly durable, resistant to scuffs and rips, light in weight, and water leaks are easy to patch. It is on the higher end of the price spectrum, being that it is more expensive than BUR and bitumen, but it is a wise choice for many properties. Rubber roof installation is not a DIY project, so always hire a professional company to ensure proper workmanship.

How to Choose Your Bicycle Helmet

One of the main concerns for any cyclist is safety, having the right kit is a must. The days of large mushroom shaped helmets are long gone, with a variety of stylish and lightweight designs on the market. But with so many styles and sizes, choosing the correct bike helmet can seem like a bit of a puzzle.

So here we have put together a simple guide to help with the process.

Types of helmet

We consider there to be 4 main types of cycle helmets, which also have a number of design variations within each type.

  • General Use (Commuting, Mountain Bike, Road Bike, BMX, and Universal Fit) General use helmets are usually about £20-£40 and can be used for many different sports. Many of these can be a universal size, with adjustability to fit.
  • Mountain Bike (Cross Country, Downhill, All Mountain) Offering extra protection for the more aggressive cycling mountain bike helmets usually come with a visor and slightly thicker than other helmets. For the more extreme disciplines you will find full face helmets which come with an extended face guard, similar to motor bike helmets. These can range between from £30-£200.
  • Road Bike (Racing, Track, Triathlon) Generally a more aerodynamic style, road bike helmets are lighter and less bulk with more ventilation. These can range from £40-£200.
  • BMX (Dirt Jump, Street, Skate) The style of a BMX helmets is the same across Dirt Jump, Street and Skateboarding, with a more classic ‘bowl’ design with less ventilation. Ranging between £20-£50.

Helmet Sizes

Manufacturers can show different sizing guidelines, but the majority should always have the actual size in centimeters (cm). Some companies may show Small (51-55cm), Medium (56-60cm), Large (61-64cm) where others will show Small/Medium (49-58cm), Large/XL (58-62cm) and other will simply have a one size fits all label, giving more adjustability.

With most helmets offering adjustable straps and rear adjustment assemblies, the right fit can be achieved. But before choosing you will need to know your helmet size.

How to measure yourself

Making sure you have the correct size is very important; a poor fitting helmet can be uncomfortable and unsafe. Once you know the size you need you can search for the perfect helmet.

A tailor measuring tape (fabric tape) is perfect, if not, you can use a piece of string and a ruler. Take the tape or string and wrap it around your head horizontally, with the start and end point being at the centre of your forehead. The tape or string should run parallel across the head, just above the ears. The tape (or string against the ruler) will indicate what your helmet size is.

Men’s, Women’s and Children’s specific helmets can be difference sizes and colours. For example a Ladies Medium will be smaller than a Men’s/Unisex Medium.

Parts of a bike helmet

  • The Shell – The shell is the actual helmet itself which is usually made from EPS (expanded polystyrene) which is designed to protect the head from injury. All cycling helmets have ventilation to help regulate body temperature during exercise.
  • The Visor – Usually only found on mountain bike helmets the visor can sometimes add extra protection against front impacts, sunlight and rain. The visor can sometimes be removed if desired.
  • The Straps – The nylon straps can be adjusted to fit comfortably under the chin and should feel snug when your mouth is open. Some bicycle helmets come with additional adjustment assemblies at the rear to add comfort and security.
  • The Liner – All helmets come with a sponge-fabric liner for comfort. Some also use the liner as a size aid, for example BMX helmets can come as one-size, with optional liner kits to change the helmets size.

The Law

Helmets sold in many countries including the UK + US have a helmet safety certification that needs to be met. This ensures the helmet is safe to use.

Cyclists are not required by law to wear a helmet in the UK but are in some parts of the world. Wearing a helmet is strongly recommended and also a requirement for races and competitions.

Fitting your helmet

Full face and BMX helmets come with a single strap that clips under the chin. When the helmet is in the correct position on the head, the straps can be adjusted so that they are snug across the side of the head and under the chin. As a guide, only one or two fingers should be able to fit in under the strap.

As well as this strap, most Road, Mountain and General Use helmets come with a dial system at the back of the helmet that can be adjusted to add extra comfort and support at the lower back of the head.

Once the straps are done up to fit, you can shake your head a little to make sure the helmet is secure. The cycle helmet should move with the head and feel fitted without any discomfort.

Then you stumble across My Online Income System and wonder if it is just another scam or could this one be the real deal?

That was my story not too long ago. Once I came across Kimberly Hoffman’s website, I knew I had to do some more research on this program before I was willing to sign up. In my search, I found more positive reviews than I could possibly read through. I decided that I just had to give it a try. With a 60 Day 100% Money Back Guarantee, I had nothing to lose by trying it.

My Online Income System (MOIS) gives you a 60 Day Action Plan to follow. It is designed to work with even the most novice skill level. Kimberly teaches you the ins and outs of Affiliate Marketing and walks you through building your own internet business. This program teaches you exactly what you need to learn in order to drive traffic to your website and increase your earnings. You will undoubtedly have many questions along the way, and that is why they have a members’ forum where you can go to get any and all of your questions answered. I will tell you, once you become a member, they will try and sell you additional products, none of which you actually need to buy in order to become successful at making money online.

You might be wondering what Affiliate Marketing even is. When you become an affiliate marketer, you promote a product through your website, blogs, articles, etc… and when someone clicks through your site and buys the product, the company pays you a commission of up to 75%. That is basically all there is to it. You can promote as many products as you wish so there is always potential to make more and more money.

Top 3 Garden Tool Storage Options

When the growing season is done, we still need a good place to store our garden tools. Whether it’s in their own separate shed, or just in a particular area in the garage, storing tools correctly is an extremely important part of keeping them in good condition. Garden tools that are allowed to become wet, or which are stored in a jumble on the floor can become damaged and useless. It’s a much better idea to choose a storage option that’ll help you keep your valuable garden tools in good shape, and ready for use again in the spring. Here’s a look at some of the most popular options for storing your garden tools.

Garden Tool Sheds

Those who have a large number of garden tools may want to construct or purchase a shed just for storing them. It might seem like a lot of effort and expense, until you realize how much more space you’ll have. If you spend a lot of time tripping over your stored garden tools in the garage or basement, or you just can’t find a place for them, a separate shed might be the answer. These can be built at home (you may need a permit in some areas) or purchased at home and garden stores. Either way, make sure you choose a solid, leak proof garden tool shed that will keep your valuable tools safe. A locking door is important, if you live in an area where thieves are a concern.

Garden Tool Racks

Another option for garden tool storage is the overhead or wall rack. Either option allows you to hang your long garden tools up out of the way, keep them off the floor, and out of the water. This is a relatively inexpensive option, and it’s even possible to make your own, if you’re willing to be creative. Otherwise, take a trip to your local home improvement store and check out their selection of dedicated garden tool racks. This is a convenient way to deal with manual tools that won’t break the budget or take up all that much space.

Garden Tool Cabinets

The last method for storing your garden tools is a tall cabinet. These are readily available, and can be found in metal and wooden varieties. Plastic cabinets are unlikely to be sturdy enough to hold up to storing heavy tools, however. Make sure the cabinet you choose is well put together and has room for all your tools. Be sure to leave adequate clearance for the doors to open and close, too – otherwise you’ll never want to put your tools away or get them out again. Cabinets can range from very cheap to extremely expensive, depending on size, materials and construction. However, any type of garden tool cabinet will offer a lot more space and better organization than simply stashing your tools in the corner.

No matter which option you choose, take the time to think about what you need and how many tools you need to store. A good quality garden tool storage option can be a real help in a crowded space. If you have a lot of garden tools, and you don’t like where they are now, it might be time to think about other options. You’ll be surprised at what a difference they can make.
