Garrowby Hill by David Hockney

Garrowby Hill is a landscape painting of a location in Yorkshire, England and serves as one of the best paintings up to now from living artist, David Hockney. The painting is normally displayed in the United States but recently became part of an impressive Hockney exhibition which went on display at the Royal Academy in London.

David Hockney is a Yorkshireman who continues to spend a lot of time in the region and is one the greatest fans of the natural beauty to be found in this region of England. Hockney found Garrowby Hill to be an ideal spot for a painting in 1998, offering swirling roads amidst stunning greenery and a selection of coloured fields which suited his painting style.

This art work has a great amount of detail on the trees which sits either side of the main road and one can imagine this road being very enjoyable for any motorists making their way through this scenic route. It is believed that the city of York may not be far from this particular location.

Exhibitions of David Hockney require a rounding up of his work from all across the world, which underlines his global appeal. The amount of work now attributed to the artist mean that genre specific exhibitions are also now possible, as seen with his recent exhibition in London at the Royal Academy which focused in on landscape work.

Please take the time to learn more about this stunning landscape painting and perhaps even join in on one of the Hockney tours which take you through the Yorkshire countryside via the various locations of several of his key paintings. Those in the United States may not be able to do that and so instead might investigate the locations of his American-based works, such as in Malibu plus also the Grand Canyon where he produced several beautiful paintings.

An exciting fact about Garrowby Hill is that it came at the start of a period where the artist addressed British landscapes and as such there are many more to see in a similar vein for those already impressed by that particular painting. There are also blog posts online which outline several people’s journeys to these spots and provide photographs of the actual scene that Hockney would have seen at that time, with clear similarities but also some artistic license clearly added once he returned to his studio to start work.

Real Versus Fake: How to Tell the Difference in Antique Signs

Antique signs are very collectable partly due to the fact that they were used. They were meant to be hung outside and displayed. The weather and vandals would damage them rocks would be thrown at them and when a store went out of business they would be repurposed or destroyed. The signs during WWI and WWII are especially rare because they were melted down to make weapons and ammunition. With all these factors antique signs command hefty price tag making them a prime target for fakes. But how do you know if you are buying a real antique sign or a real good fake?

One good indication that a sign is a fake is if there are many similar signs with the same seller or there are many sellers with the same sign. This is an obvious indication that the sign is mass produced fake. If the sign is to perfect this is another good indication that the sign is a fake remember they were meant to be used. Old signs commonly have rust, pits or are generally imperfect. If there is only rust around the edges or the fading is consistent it is most likely a fake. The sun fades different colors at different rates red will fade before black and graphic will fade before the thicker background.

These signs were handmade and if the lettering or graphics look perfect and perfectly consistent then it was done by a computer. Hand lettered signs show brush strokes and even early silk screened signs show variations in the letter shapes and size. There are few letters to look out for: S, C, and O are the hardest to execute for a hand painter and therefore they will always look different even on the same sign.

If the sign has an address on it and it uses a two letter state abbreviation then you know that it is a fake. In fact the two letter state abbreviation wasn’t developed until the mid twentieth century. The same with a phone number when they were invented they were short only a few digits combining both letters and numbers.

Antique signs were also made in standard sizes to avoid waste. Plywood and metal were cut down in even sizes from 4 feet by 8 feet sheets. If you measure the sign and it is an odd length then it is most likely a reproduction. Checking the material is correct for the time period is another good way to tell the difference between a real and a fake. If the sign seller tells you the sign was made in the 1860 and it is a porcelain sign then you know something is wrong since the technology to make such signs wasn’t invented till the early 1900’s.

The most important thing when trying to distinguish between real and fake is to ask yourself if it makes sense. Why would the sign only rust on the edges? Why does it look so evenly faded? Is it correct for the time period? The last tell tale sign and the most obvious is to look and see if there is a sticker that says reproduction or made in China. Be smart and check twice.

Tips for Camping With Just an ATV

There is nothing more peaceful than sitting around a campfire enjoying a night under the stars or snuggled up in a tent telling ghost stories. But, some of the most beautiful places to camp are only accessible by an All-Terrain Vehicle. Whether it’s a weekend getaway or a month-long adventure, preparing and packing for an ATV camping trip can be overwhelming. It’s not just the destination that counts, it’s also the equipment you choose to take (or don’t take). Here are a few tips on having an amazing camping trip by only taking what can fit on your ATV.

1. Plan in Advance

Camping with an ATV can pose a few more kinks than a normal camping trip. Because of this, it is important to plan a little more extensively. Have a map on hand so that you can easily tell where you are going and to help you get back on track should you lose your way. As you would get your car or SUV inspected before a long road trip, the same needs to be done for your ATV. And with any planned vacation, always have a back-up plan. No matter how hard you try to prepare, things happen!

2. Pack Smart:

Taking only your ATV means you will need to pack only the essential items. Prioritizing your packing list will make carrying a limited amount of gear and supplies much easier. So, what are the must-haves for an ATV camping trip?

  • Safe equipment
  • Sleeping bag
  • Tent
  • Clothing
  • Weather specific gear
  • Food
  • Cooking equipment
  • Tools

3. ATV Top-Shelf Rack:

The Top-Shelf can carry anything from boats to lumber to camping gear. With all of its accessories, you can go anywhere, do anything, and bring whatever you want with you. It is great for hauling lumber and supplies around your farm, carrying your camping gear to the top of the mountain, hauling kayaks from the hard to reach river banks, or anything else you can think of. Add-ons allow you to convert your ATV into a hunting blind, barbwire winder or boom wench. All this can be done while toting your gun, bow, or shovel with the secure bracket.

4. Pack Simple Meals:

Bring simple meals that can easily be cooked over a fire or that require no cooking or refrigeration such as freeze-dried meals, instant oatmeal, granola bars, and canned goods. All of these produce nothing to clean up after and they all cook up quickly with boiling water.

5. Focus on the Beauty:

There will be moments when you miss the conveniences of your usual camping equipment but, ignore the inconveniences and focus on the beauty of the scenery. To fully understand and embrace your surroundings, take time to get off your ATV and explore by foot.

Getting a group together on a camping trip with just an ATV can help build lasting memories. If done right, they can be a huge adventure and they may become your go-to camping style after a few practice runs. Above all else, when going camping, be aware of your surroundings and be safe!

Knee Replacements And Bodybuilding, What Is Acceptable

If you are a bodybuilder or a fitness enthusiast that strength trains, you will have some concerns when it comes to making the decision to have a knee replacement. After all, there will be some physical restrictions placed upon you such as no high impact sports or running as these will only shorten the lifespan of the prosthesis.

When it come to bodybuilding, there really isn’t too many contradictions in regards to exercises that you can’t complete. Therefore, you should be able to continue your bodybuilding without jeopardizing your surgical knee if you use some restraint in the amount of weight you intend to lift.

I have used the following exercise for my legs to keep them strong and from also allowing muscle atrophy to develop which is something anyone involved in bodybuilding knows all to well about.

Leg Press: I use the leg press more often than the squat because the weight is balanced more appropriately and, I can concentrate on the quadriceps more effectively.

The intention when it comes to lifting weights with he affected leg is to stimulate the muscles involved not necessarily how much weight someone can lift.

The leg press allows you to keep control of your body so that you can concentrate entirely on the surgical leg. I like to use the leg press as it allows me to build more muscular endurance in the leg without sacrificing form and setting me up for injury.

The Squat: Yes, I have found you can still use the squat effectively however, common sense has to be used. The days before surgery where you may have placed 400-550 pound on a barbell is not recommended. You can still squat safely to parallel or even a little deeper however, the weight used should be something you can use safely for 12-15 repetitions. The amount a weight someone uses of course will differ but keeping the weight no heavier than 225 pounds can be acceptable.

Placing too much weight on a consistent basis with the squat can cause a breakdown around the prosthesis and lead to a loosening of the components. The weakest link with a knee replacement will be the cement used by the surgeon to hold the knee components in place. With excessive weight over long periods of time can cause loosening.

Hamstring exercises: Basically all the hamstring exercises are allowable and I find none of them have caused any harm with my knee replacement in over 14 years now. The same goes for the calf muscle routines as well. The important thing to remember is that keeping your weight selection modest is the key.

There really to my knowledge have not been any studies done about how much weight an individual can use when strength training on a knee replacement and, if you ask your surgeon unless they are active bodybuilders themselves, will not have any advice for you either other than don’t lift!

So do not fear that your weight lifting or bodybuilding days are over with just because you have had a knee replaced. Just be a little more creative in your weight selection and, find other ways to fatigue those quadriceps and hamstrings such as using shorter rest periods or compound sets in the future.

Feng Shui – Apartment Entrance and Mapping Your Life

Feng Shui can also benefit those of us who live in apartments, the first step being to focus on your Feng Shui apartment entrance. Mapping the bagua onto your floor plan will play a vital role for us here. Since there are a variety of apartments available out there, the practice of Feng Shui may slightly differ from place to place depending on the type of apartment that you have.

It’s important to keep in mind though, that even if there is a vast variety in apartment style, the basics of Feng Shui will still apply to any given space or location.

If you are living in an apartment building, you have to keep in mind two very important things. The first thing is the building entrance and the second thing is the Feng Shui apartment entrance. Map your bagua tool with the north side aligned to the wall with the main apartment entrance. This will prepare you for applying any given Feng Shui cures and enhancements you may want to use to energize and activate your life areas. Your entrance will need to be free from clutter and be generally inviting, inside and outside your door. Less clutter will allow more energy to flow into your apartment. In Feng Shui, the position of the entrance to any room or space is very important, it can either block energy or allow it to flow in.

When looking for the best location for an apartment, you have to avoid those which are in a raised structure. How would you know if a given apartment building is sitting on a raised structure? This is easy to determine because these buildings usually have a parking lot at the ground floor, making it seem like the apartment building is raised from the ground. Because of the fact that these structures are not grounded, it can be a possible venue for bad and stagnant energy.

Most apartment buildings have pools located in the penthouse or the top level of the building. This is not a good Feng Shui sign because it signifies that everything else is below water. Feng Shui strives to keep the balance between all five elements as well as the Yin and Yang, so making one element dominant above the other is a big no-no.

If you have an option to live in an apartment located in the lower floors rather than the upper floors, keep in mind that the lower the apartment is or the closer it is to the ground, the better. The chi will travel a long way before it can reach an apartment in the upper floors, but to help, you can keep your lights open or hang a plant outside your place to assist the chi to flow in.

Another popular kind of apartment style is a studio apartment, which is not conducive to Feng Shui. Although, when using the bagua map aligned with your Feng Shui apartment entrance, mapping out the nine life areas will be pretty straight forward. Meaning, it’ll be a lot more obvious where you should actually place any cures. Ideally, different areas should be divided and the boundaries should be properly set. A studio apartment means that all the areas are molded into one main living area. If this is the case, then you can use dividers or curtains in making boundaries of the different areas in your apartment. It is most important to divide the bedroom from everything else.

If you are out apartment hunting, you have to keep in mind that the ideal apartment is a location where there are no garbage disposals or dumpsters located nearby. Apartments which are too close to the stairs or elevator are also not recommended as well as apartments which are located at the end of a long hallway.

Remember, you can use the Bagua to help as your Feng Shui apartment entrance map. Simply lining it up like a floor plan in your apartment, starting at it’s entrance (align this wall to north on the map) to know which directions the different life areas will relate to in your environment, and start feng shu-ing!

Class of Protection in Electrical Appliances

All electrical appliances using mains voltage have to provide at least 2 levels of protection to the user. This is to ensure that if one of the protection layers were to fail, there is the back-up of the second layer still in place. This makes electrical equipment very safe to use. Appliances can be Class 1 or Class 2.

When PAT testing, it is important to first identify the Class of the appliance as Class 1 appliances are tested differently from Class 2 appliances.

Depending on how exactly the protection is provided, electrical appliance are put into 5 Classes of equipment construction which are Class 1, 2, 3, 0, 01. Of these the most important are Class 1 & 2. For completeness all the Classes are described below.

CLASS 1

Here the protection is provided by a combination of insulation and use of the mains Earth. It is best shown by referring to an electric fire that has been taken apart.

In the open plug the three wires connecting to the LIVE, NEUTRAL and EARTH pins. Inside the fire, the brown LIVE wire and the blue NEUTRAL wire connect to a plastic connector. The green/yellow Earth wire connects to the metal case of the fire.

The user is protected from electric shock by the plastic insulation of the connector. This holds the LIVE and NEUTRAL wires in place and prevents them from touching the metal case of this electric fire. This plastic insulation of the connector is known as basic insulation.

If this basic insulation were to fail, say due to excessive movement of the cable where it touches the metal case then the user of the fire can receive an electric shock if not for the fact that the EARTH wire is present.

By connecting to the metal case of the electric fire, the EARTH wire keeps all this metal at EARTH potential. What this means is that it is impossible to get an electric shock even when the metal case of the fire is connected directly to the LIVE voltage. In practice a fuse would blow either in the plug or the main fuse box to protect the user.

In summary, in Class 1 appliances the user is protected by a combination of basic insulation and the provision of an EARTH connection, thus providing two levels of protection.

When PAT Testing Class 1 appliances, the Earth Continuity and Insulation Resistance tests are carried out.

CLASS 2

In a Class 2 appliance, the user is protected by at least two layers of insulation. For this reason, Class 2 appliances are also known as Double Insulated. They do not require an Earth connection.

This is best shown by looking inside a Class 2 electric drill which has been opened up. Inside one can see that as well as the plastic connector providing basic insulation, there is additional insulation provided by the plastic enclosure of the drill.

The user is therefore protected by two separate layers of insulation. When PAT testing Class 2 appliances, just the Insulation Resistance test is carried out.

Class 2 appliances are always indicated by the double box symbol on the rating plate.

CLASS 3

Equipment built to Class 3 standard are designed to be supplied from a special safety isolating transformer whose output is known as Safety Extra-Low Voltage or SELV. This must not exceed 50 V AC and is normally is below 24V or 12V. All Class 3 appliances are marked by a special symbol. There is no use of an Earth in Class III appliance

The electrical safety of Class 3 appliances are taken care of in the safety isolating transformer design where the separation between the windings is equivalent to double insulation. The transformer is marked as being suitable for use with Class III appliances.

CLASS 0 & 01

This type of equipment is not for normal use in business or residential environments. It is just presented here for completeness.

Class 0 appliances depend only on basic insulation for protection from electric shock. For this reason, they do not have 2 levels of protection built in and are not allowed for sale. The brass lamp shown here is an example of a two wire, metal cased appliance with only basic insulation. There is no provision for connection of an earth to the bulb holder.

In Class 01 appliances, there is provision for an Earth connection, but it is wired with either twin core cable or only has a 2-pin plug, so an Earth cannot be connected. AS in Class 0 equipment, one is dependent only on basic insulation for protection from electric shock. As they only have 1 level of protection, Class 01 appliances are not allowed for sale.

If during PAT testing one comes across a Class 0 or Class 01 appliance these can be failed.

IDENTIFYING CLASS I & CLASS II APPLIANCE

As the PAT testing carried on Class 1 and Class 2 appliances differ, it is important to identify one from the other. There is no other area of PAT testing that causes more confusion than this and there are many myths surrounding this. It will be informative to list some of these.

If there is a fuse in the plug, then it must be Class 1.

It is made of metal so it must be Class 1

The case is plastic so it must be Class 2

It has a three core cable so it must be Class 1

The plug has a metal Earth pin so it must be Class 1

None of the above statements is a fool-proof way to identify Class I and Class II appliances and some are quite misleading.

The easiest rule to apply is the one below.

If the rating plate has a double box then the appliance is Class 2. If it does not then it is Class 1.

Example – Kettle

The rating plate on this kettle clearly has no “double-box” symbol, so using our rule, it must be Class 1. The Earth connection from the plug is terminated on the outside metal casing of the heating element. When PAT testing this kettle the Earth Continuity and Insulation Resistance test has to be carried out.

Example – Plug-top power supply

The rating plate on this Plug-top transformer clearly shows the “double box” symbol, so this is a Class 2 appliance. Note that it has a plastic Earth pin, as this is not required for Class II. (Not all Class 2 appliances have a plastic earth pin). Just the Insulation Resistance test has to be carried out during PAT testing.

Example – Mains extension

The rating plate on this extension is moulded in the plastic. It clearly does not have a “double-box” symbol, so it must be a Class 1. When PAT testing this extension lead the Earth Continuity and Insulation Resistance test has to be carried out.

Example – Table lamp

The rating plate on this table lamp clearly shows the “double-box” so it is a Class 2 appliance. (Note that this is a Class 2 appliance that is largely in a metal enclosure). The bulb holder is made of plastic and provides the required double insulation. Just the Insulation Resistance test has to be carried out during PAT testing.

Example – Desk fan

The rating plate for this fan not only does not have a “double-box” symbol, it also says that the appliance must be earthed. So this is clearly a Class 1 appliance. Note that it does not have any user accessible metal.

Example – Metal Lamp

If this metal lamp had a rating plate, then it would be a Class 1 appliance as it has an earth point on the lamp holder. However, as the rating plate is missing, this would have to be failed.

Are Class 1 and Class 2 appliances just as safe?

As both have 2 levels of protection built in, they are both safe for general use.

However with Class 1 an appliance, one of the layers of safety is provided by the earth connection. For this to be effective, the wiring in the building has to be inspected regularly to check that the Earth in the mains socket is correctly taken to the local earth potential. This is usually picked off the Earth sheathing of the mains cable coming into the premises, or by driving a local stake into the ground. So Class 1 appliances depend on the external wiring in the building to fully provide the 2 levels of protection.

Class 2 appliances however always provide 2 levels of protection irrespective of the status of the wiring installation. Both layers of protection are built into the design making Class 2 appliances are a lot safer than Class 1 appliances.

How to Cook With Cuisinart Stainless Steel Cookware – 3 Helpful Tips for Easier Cooking

If you’re new to cooking with Cuisinart stainless cookware, there are some things you should know about how best to use your new pots and pans. In this article, I’ll discuss how to cook with Cuisinart stainless steel cookware, so you can make the most of your new set.

1.) Do you need to preseason your Cuisinart Stainless Steel Cookware?

While preseasoning your stainless steel pots and pans isn’t absolutely necessary, it does help to prevent food from sticking. Stainless steel cookware doesn’t have a non-stick interior, like many of the pots and pans you can buy. The steel is very porous, and therefore it’s easy for food to get “stuck” within these pores. Seasoning the cookware helps to seal up these pores and prevent sticking.

To season your stainless steel pan, cover the bottom of the pan with oil and salt. You’ll want to pour in about 1/2″ to 3/4″ of oil. Place the pan on your stove burner, and heat it up until the oil begins smoking. Remove the pan from the heat and allow it to cool, until it is safe to touch and discard the oil and salt. Next, take a soft cloth and wipe out any remaining oil and salt. Your pan is now ready to use!

Now remember the porous nature of the pan I mentioned previously? This also means that whenever you wash the pan in hot water, those pores will open back up, and the oil used to season will be washed away. Therefore, you’ll probably want to repeat this process after washing your pan. Again, the preseasoning isn’t necessary, but it does help to eliminate a lot of food sticking problems caused by not having a non-stick interior.

2.) Use a lower heat setting

You’ll find that you don’t need to use as much heat as your used to, when you cook with Cuisinart stainless steel cookware. Due to how the pots are constructed, they tend to heat up very quickly. Start with a lower temperature than you think you’ll need and gradually increase your temperature until you get used to how the pans heat up.

3.) Prevent food sticking

There are few things you can do (besides seasoning) that can help prevent food from sticking to your pans. First, always make sure that your oil is hot before adding any food. You’ll want to preheat your pan, then add the oil and allow that to heat up, and only then should you add your food.

Don’t try put too much food in the pot at one time. If necessary, cook up smaller batches of food.

What if you get burnt on or stuck on food? Try some vinegar and baking soda to scrub away tough food spots. Another trick is to use a product called Barkeeper’s Helper, or a cleaner specifically made for stainless steel cookware.

By following these tips for how to cook with Cuisinart stainless steel cookware, you’ll not only enjoy cooking more, but you’ll also be ensuring that your pots and pans will last for a long time.

Is Romex 6/3 The Biggest Gauge Size of NM-B Electrical Cable?

No, there are two sizes bigger than Romex® 6/3 which are a 4 AWG and a 2 AWG that come in a three conductor version only. Each of the 3 different sizes has 3 THHN electrical wires with insulation and one bare copper ground wire without insulation. All 3 versions come with a black outer jacket.

Romex® 6/3 is the most popular type of NM-B cable not including the circuit sizes of 14, 12 and 10 AWG. It’s common to run a Romex® 6/3 electrical cable to a new power source which gives a new barn or garage a certain amount of power to allocate throughout the lights and outlets in that new area. The 6 3 cable is also a common size to power up a new hot tub or spa inside of your home.

Be careful not to use Romex® when running power to anything outdoors even if it’s in conduit. You’ll have to upgrade to an MC cable or UFB cable which are both approved for outdoor and conduit use. UFB stands for Underground Feeder which is also approved as an underground cable without conduit or raceway.

Larger sizes of Romex® such as 4/3 and 2/3 are used when your new garage or barn need more power than a 6 AWG 3 conductor cable can offer. The larger the copper the more power it brings to a source. Once the power has been applied to the new electrical box it can be distributed to the different smaller sources that need power as well.

The only difference between an NMB cable and a UFB cable is the outer jacket. The rest of the cable remains the same in terms of characteristics. For example, both cables come with THHN wires and a bare copper ground wire. Therefore, both cables conduct the same amount of electricity. The difference comes with the amount of protection offered by the outer jacket. Romex® comes with a thin PVC jacket while UFB has a much more protective PVC jacket that surrounds each conductor individually. The NMB cable jacket can be penetrated by outdoor moisture and gasses while the UFB jacket cannot.

It’s wise to discuss your application with your supplier and your electrician to make sure you have ample power and ample protection based on the environment your cable will be placed in. You want to make sure you’re going to pass inspection which is much more important than saving a few bucks on the installation costs.

Get a Great Body at Home Without Weights – Home Workout for Men

Most people think you need to go to the gym to get a fit athletic body, but that is not true. I do not know why people tell themselves such things, is it just another excuse because you actually do not seriously want to get in shape? Let me tell you something if you want a great beach ready in shape body and you want to feel good and look good then that is possible but it’s all up to you. Are you willing to put in the work and effort to get in great shape? Yes, then read on. This information is not for people who want to look like fitness model, bodybuilders or get buffed up, for that you need weights.

I am going to share with you a whole bunch of exercises you can do at home that will target your whole body and help you shed fat, gain some muscle, get some definition, get stronger and healthier.

So first up for your chest, arms as well as strength you are going to do push-ups. Yes, this is an ancient exercise but it still works and at first you will suck at them but with time and practice you will get better at doing then and get stronger.

At the beginning you will do the normal shoulder width push-ups, as you become stronger and get better at them to target growth on your chest you will do decline push-ups and later incline/stability push-ups on a medicine ball. You could have a day of push-ups or mix them with other exercise if you are into whole body exercises. You can also try placing your hands closer to get when doing the push-ups to make them more difficult.

Pull-ups are the other very effective exercise for your body, they target your back muscles but also workout your arms and give you strength over time as lifting your own bodyweight is no easy task for most people. At first you can try pull-ups shoulder width apart on a bar that is a little taller then you or on a tree brunch you can grip or you can always buy yourself and pull-up bar to attach to your door. You can try the pull-ups with your palms facing you first because those are the easy ones that tend to use some bicep, you can try the other version with your palms facing away from you as you get stronger.

Also when you can do about 20-25 reps for 3-4 sets then you can try experimenting with the widths to create different levels of difficulty, for example wide grip pull-ups and close grip pull-ups. If you get used to your own bodyweight and you want to take things up a notch carry a heavy bag on your back and do weighted pull-ups that should be really effective.

For your legs you can do lunges lots of them since you are not carrying weights or you could do jumping squats, also a lot of them so you feel the effect. Also you could carry your kid/sibling/gym partner on your shoulders behind you head as you would a weight and do squats using them as a weight. This should help you get defined legs, if you want defined calves you could go up and down using your toes to raise you, carrying a manageable weight like the example of squats.

If you are looking to burn fat you can do some interval sprinting, which is a great leg exercise and gives you explosive power. You can also run around dragging a tire attached to your waist that is a great way to develop powerful legs.

For abs there are multiple abs exercises you can do, most abs exercises are done without weights or machines anyways. Sit-ups, planks, side planks, crunches, bicycles, the jack-knife exercise, v-ups, hanging leg raises just to name a few.

You have seven days a week if you really do not have time you can do one of these exercise per day but if you do have time consider combining a few and train every other day. Doing these exercises should get you into great shape.

Personality Development Tips and the Action Plan for Improvement

Personal development is not a simple thing to do. It requires a lot of determination, courage and will power. At any stage in the life, a person can bring changes in his personality. It means a man remains incomplete throughout his life. However, there are several individuals who think that they have attained the peak of the human creation when at some occasion in their life they get achievement and the fulfillment of their ambition. They develop pride, without knowing that they have started declining instead of rising.

This is absolutely a wrong idea that a man would consider him complete and leaves the struggle to attain something which is still far away from him. The ego guides a person to the right direction. Hence the insight should be present in a person. He should realize that what he is and what he wants to be. If in case he attains success, he should seek other unachievable goals and start struggling to attain them. There are several personal development tips; however, anything could not be achieved without strong determination and courage.

If you want to bring change in yourself and want to improve your personality, you should compare yourself with others. Not with those who are inferior to you, rather you should take the examples for those who are ahead. See how they have attained success in their life, how much struggles they have made and how much hardship they have faced.

Try to understand the meaning of life which is possessed by them. It is not necessary to consider those individuals who are wealthier than you; rather you should see the work of famous persons of the world and their cause for which they have spent their whole life. Life is not the name to become wealthy; instead wealth is something which retards the progress of a person. That is the reason why several successful individuals of the world had not been inspired with money and wealth. They have worked for a noble cause, for the betterment of humanity. And when they have passed away, they have been remembered due to their deeds and they are still alive in the hearts of people.

Personality development is something which could not be achieved within an eye blink. If you really want to increase your personality, you have to make friendship with your conscience, since it is one which directs you always to the right direction. Whenever you come across to decision making, always ask from your conscience, that what you should do and which would be better for you. You believe or not to believe, but it is true that if you follow your conscience you would never fail in your tasks. You would cross all barriers and attain your goals marvelously.

Top Hardware Issues to Consider When Selecting a Vendor

The most difficult part of selecting a brand of hardware could be the lack of familiarity among the options. This is why selecting an IT networking hardware vendor can be like buying a used car in a foreign country. When presented with several choices, our initial reaction is to go with the cheapest option. However, this is not always the best choice, as there are several important factors to consider when making smart purchases.

When choosing network hardware, service and repair warranties serve an important role. For example, how far will technicians travel to service your network on-site? What services are included, and what costs extra? Once you’ve made your choice of hardware, what can you expect in terms of ongoing support and upgrade options? Before going ahead with the purchase, have a clear understanding of the terms for these sorts of services and how they relate to your network and location.

Many of the bigger hardware vendors set their pricing structure with future purchases in mind. Often, a customer will be able to get discounts on the initial sale if the seller expects that the account will generate future sales as well. It’s a good idea to express your long-term technology goals to the vendor for this reason.

There are some important factors to consider after you’ve selected the right hardware vendor:

Switches: This is what you’ll be plugging the cables into, the ‘spinal cord’ of the whole network. It’s common for networks to contain both fiber optic and copper cable; in this case, the switch will need to accommodate both. Otherwise, choosing the right switch for your office will depend on the traffic you’ll be accommodating and the media type used.

Devices: Your choice of devices should be based on performance expectations and network compatibility. Will the firmware be upgradeable? Will you use regular computers, or thin client terminals? What about articulated arms in the exam rooms? It’s important to reach agreements about device configurations, whether server, printer, or laptop. In fact, physicians should always check before making a computer purchase, to be sure that the device they want will function well on the network. By examining the network on a regular basis, the entire system can be kept in sync and up to date with current changes in technology. This system of updated improvements will help you attain maximum performance results while streamlining your technical needs.

Servers: Keep redundancy in mind when selecting a server. Will one machine cover the power of another that fails? If the hard drive crashes, will an array of RAID drives pick up the slack? How many processors are there, and how much RAM? Select a backup tape drive that is large enough to store all your data yet speedy enough to back everything up overnight. What about the physical setup of the network equipment? Maybe a custom rack or secure housing unit should keep the servers safe, particularly if there is a series of servers as in many EMR system set-ups.

Too Much Chlorine in Tap Water

In a US Council for Environmental Quality study, it has been reported that the risk of getting cancer is 93 times higher for those who consume chlorinated water than those who do not. Chlorinated water, though free of bacterial elements, has been closely linked to bladder, rectal and breast cancer. Lenntech.com reports that there was a rise in health complaints of swimming pool attendants. Research also shows that several employees of swimming pools suffer from forgetfulness, fatigue, chronic colds, voice problems, eye irritations, headache, sore throat, eczema and frontal sinus inflammation. If swimmers and pool attendants stop working around pools then the health problems vanish. During exercise their physical effort is large. They inhale air and absorb the chlorine products. Many competitive swimmers suffer from asthma as lung functions of swimmers decrease when they are swimming in pools that are disinfected by chlorine.

Ok, but we are not talking about swimming pools, we are talking about tap water in your home you might be thinking. So what’s the problem? If you look at the EPA website you will see that we have a Safe Drinking Water Act. This law requires the EPA to determine the level of residual disinfectants, (chlorine), in drinking water at which no adverse health effects are likely to occur. These non-enforceable health goals, based solely on possible health risks and exposure over a lifetime, with an adequate margin of safety, are called maximum residual disinfectant level goals (MRDLG). The EPA has set the maximum allowable level of chlorine to be 4.0 parts per million, (ppm). Parts per million means that if you put one million drops of water separately on any surface, four of those drops would be pure chlorine.

I live in a major city in north central Texas which in 2009, (as they are required), posted their city water facts. They stated that the city water ranged during 2009 from 1ppm to 4.3ppm. If the EPA declared that levels above 4ppm will breach the “margin of safety”, then on what day was the chlorine levels above 4.0 and who drank or showered (including myself) in this potentially toxic water? All of the chlorine effects I listed are from research in swimming pools. You might ask, “isn’t the chlorine level in my pool much higher than my city water?” No. Actually your swimming pool water can be equal to or lower in terms of ppm than your city tap water. The reason you smell chlorine so strongly around a pool is because it has had a chance to change in to a gas in the air around the pool. According to several swimming pool websites I researched, free available chlorine (FAC), must be within a range of 2 – 4 ppm.Remember the EPA maximum level for your home is 4.0.

Whether you drink it via a glass of water or inhale it when you have a hot shower, chlorinated water can affect you. Don’t think you are off the hook if you drink bottled water. You take showers don’t you? Chlorine can seep through the skin or can be inhaled when it turns to steam in a hot shower. Some scientist claim inhaling chlorine is more dangerous than drinking it via a glass of water. As a matter of fact, the EPA found that there are elevated amounts of chloroform in almost every American household due to the use of chlorinated water.

Where are you using tap water? Are you drinking chlorinated water? Are you bathing yourself, your children or cooking your food in it? The answer lies in carbon filtration. Granular activated carbon has a large surface area for collection of chlorine from your water. Better yet, coconut shell granulated activated carbon has been found to be a premium carbon for residential or commercial drinking water treatment applications. 1 cu.ft. of Coconut Shell carbon performs better than standard carbon “charcoal” filtering media in removing chlorine and Volatile Organic Compounds. The most common application for an activated carbon is to remove unpleasant taste such as taste of chlorine from drinking water. There are answers to chlorine and you don’t have to settle for adding any more toxins into your body than you already do on a daily basis. There are many inexpensive ways to remove chlorine from your water source. You can start with a simple pitcher type filter, under sink filter, shower filter, or if you even a carbon media tank to remove the chlorine from every tap in your home.
