4 Simple and Devastating Self Defense Tactics to Annihilate an Attacker – Brutal Tricks That Work

Life isn’t like the movies. When someone puts their hands on you or attacks you there won’t always be a hero waiting to save the day. You have to be that hero. Imagine the fear you would fear if a large thug were to break into your house with intentions on taking you apart. Some people will tell you that you shouldn’t have any fear. That is ridiculous! Having fear is a natural emotional response to danger. The key to practical self defense tactics that can save you in these kinds of situations is to channel that fear into the right self defense techniques.

Go For the Eyes

In a real street combat situation or home invasion, you have to fight for your life. No fancy flying kicks or redirecting your opponent’s force is going to work. You have to let the inner animal come out. Brutal eye strikes and gouges should be one of your first go-to self defense techniques. The eyes are sensitive and if your opponent is in pain and unable to see, he will not be able to continue the attack.

Interrupt Your Opponent’s Breathing

Another area that is equally vulnerable on all people is the throat. A hard strike to the windpipe with an open hand chop or even a fist can severely impact your attacker’s breathing. If you think on your toes and strike hard and fast to the windpipe, you can easily overcome any opponent.

Keep Kicks Low

In the movies the hero wins the day with big flying spin-kicks. Don’t try that move or you’ll end up on your butt. Practical fighting techniques should be easy to do in any surrounding. You can’t throw a fancy high-kick if you’re fighting off an intruder in the hallway of your home. Kick to the shins, knees, and groin to cause your attacker the most pain and have the most impact.

Unleash a Furious Attack

The biggest thing that gets people seriously hurt or killed in self defense scenarios is freezing up. You have to develop the ability to unleash your instincts to fight for your life. We spend so much time being civil and bottling up any aggression that it can be hard to have the right mindset that is focused on injuring an opponent and taking him out. You need a system that develops a mindset to use simple, effective movements that cause maximum injury to your opponent in minimal time. Anything short of that is simply playing games.

You need a system that teaches you moves that are simple to perform and easy to remember while training you to have a mindset that goes all out when it matters most. You can’t afford to try fancy moves or to freeze up during a real attack.

You are ready to learn realistic self defense tactics that work during an attack or street fight, aren’t you

Why Do Men Get Over a Break Up So Fast? Advice for Women

I’m often questioned by women on my blog on one specific topic and that’s why men are capable of getting over a break up so quickly. It does seem to be the norm, doesn’t it? We mourn the loss of the relationship for weeks, if not months, while our exes are out partying the nights, days and weekends away oblivious to the emotional pain we’re in. It’s an interesting study on the topic of human emotions. As women we have a more difficult time emotionally disconnecting from a relationship, even if the break up was by our hand. Men, on the other hand, seem able to pick their hearts up, dust them off and dive right back into life full force and with a smile on their faces. Why is that? Is there a definitive reason for why men seem much more emotionally able to move on towards a new life and new relationship after a split? The real reason behind that smile on your ex boyfriend’s face may surprise you.

Our perception is that our ex has gotten over the break up because we don’t see him in those quiet, sullen moments when the gravity of the situation hits him. In confidence, many men will actually confess to being heartbroken by the reality that the relationship they viewed as life sustaining has shattered. Men are raised, for the most part, to be strong and to hide their emotions away from the world. So when you speak to your ex or you run into him at a mutual favorite place you may be mistaking that smile on his face for acceptance and perhaps even joy at his newfound freedom. Internally he may be fighting the urge to tell you that he misses you more than he thought possible and he wishes that things could just go back to how they used to be. In other words, that facade that he’s presenting to you may not be what really lurks beneath the surface.

Obviously, there does exist the man who can dust his heart off and jump back into his life at warp speed. This is the man who dives into a new relationship just as he’s checking out of the old one. To the woman left behind, she suddenly devalues her place in his life and the relationship they shared. She’ll wonder whether she meant anything more to him than a short stop on his romantic adventure. Viewing yourself through the eyes of an ex boyfriend who is not compassionate is a mistake. You should look at the relationship the way you choose to and hold onto the parts of it that helped you to become the woman you are now.

I advise women not to dwell too heavily on the behavior of their ex after the break up. If he does certain things, you may mistakenly believe those are silent signals that he’s still hung up on you. By the same token if he doesn’t do certain things you may jump to the very same conclusion.

All you really need to focus on is that it was an experience in your life and now you’re going to look towards new experiences, be it with him in the future or with someone new. He’s going to process the break up in a way that is best for him, just as you’re going to do the same for yourself.

Remember that he’s not your boyfriend anymore. What he does isn’t your concern. You need to let him go, for now and point the spotlight directly on yourself and the amazing woman you are. You’ve grown since the break up and you need to use the emotional journey you’ve taken as fuel for the next great adventure awaiting you.

What Causes Copper Pipe to Fail?

Sadly, copper pipes don’t last forever, though they do last quite long, sometimes more than a lifetime. However, usually they’ll get around 25 years, and that’s if the water condition is conducive to the pipes. Changes in the chemistry of water can make it rough on copper pipes, and lead to copper pipe repair. In most cases they will not affect the quality of the water, but will certainly cause the property owner to lose money.

As the most commonly used material for plumbing systems, copper is easy to use and resists corrosion. It also is impermeable to gases and liquids which is an added bonus. For over 50 years, copper piping has been the go to material for domestic water supply, and it can be found in the majority of buildings today.

Anyone who notices warm spots on the floor, ceilings or walls, we carpeting, or very high water bills should consider that copper pipe repair many be needed. They should immediately contact a repair specialist for a consultation to see what their options are between traditional options and the latest methods to include trenchless pipe replacement.

Pinhole Leaks

Pinhole leaks are the result of perforation of copper tubing, fittings or pipe in domestic distribution of water, and the result of corrosion initiated by pitting on the inside or waterside surface of the pipe. Inside pitting and corrosion of copper piping may be rare, but when discovered becomes an expensive problem that quickly results in pinhole leaks. The chemistry of the water itself has been found to cause the pitting.

The pinhole leak is a common copper pipe repair, and so professionals continue to try to detect pitting corrosion before it turns into pinhole leaks. Of course, these leaks could occur in any tube or pipe made of copper within the house. Most leaks are found in older homes and businesses, definitely before 1970.

Copper Corrosion

while there are various types of corrosion, pinhole leaks are caused by pitting corrosion in copper plumbing most of all. The attacks are definitely localized, and non-uniform in characteristic. Various, small areas are typically attacked.

There are three main types of pitting corrosion:

  • Soft Water – This type of pitting is possible in various soft waters of pH below 7.2, it’s narrower than in hard water, but still causes failure in pipes.
  • Hard Water – This pitting is found in hard waters that have a pH of 7 to 7.8, and it is most common in cold water applications. Pits are narrow and deep and cause pipes to fail.
  • Cold and Soft Water with High pH Level – This pitting happens in soft, cold waters with a pH above 8. It’s generalized and has shallow, wide results in blue water, pipe blocking and byproduct releases.

Water Velocity

High rates of water flow can erode the coating of bare copper, and cause copper pipe repairs. It also results in high corrosion once eroded. The biggest effect is when forced water changes the flow direction and damages the whole system.

Repair Choices

Today, property owners have many options of which to choose. Yet, none of them consider the main cause of the issue, but just correct detected symptoms. Options are not cheap for copper pipe repairs, and they include:

  • Fixing the leak by application of external solder
  • Re-plumbing the whole property
  • Replacing the tube in sections
  • Re-plumbing and putting PVC in place of the copper
  • Buying cures, such as magnets
  • Coating with epoxy

In the end, there are many choices when it comes to copper pipe repairs. Home and business owners owe it to themselves to explore them all, and have their property examined by a professional who can make smart recommendations.

Portable Car Heater Solutions – What to Do When Your Car Heater is Not Working

If you found this article, that probably means you’re in search of a portable car heater for your vehicle. Which probably means your car heater isn’t working. (I know, I’m awfully smart, aren’t I?!)

I got excited about showing others some of the portable car heater solutions that are out there after owning an ancient Hyundai that was leaking so much antifreeze that the mechanic just bypassed the heater core. For one whole winter I had a car that was basically not drivable during the winter weather. If I’d known then that there were inexpensive portable car heater solutions out there, I would have been able to keep my part-time job teaching adult literacy. But as it was, I gave up the low-paying job that I loved because I just didn’t have the money right then to get the heater repaired.

So, given my history, you can probably imagine how I felt as I strolled through the forums the other day to see what advice is being offered to the poor Joe (or Josephine) who calls for help when a portable car heater solution is needed fast.

Typical forum post: “Car heater not working. Can anyone help, PLEASE? (And don’t tell me to get the heater core fixed. I got an estimate, and I just don’t have the $500 the mechanic will charge me.)”

Typical forum response: “You really just need to get the heater core fixed, buddy. If your job is so important to you, then just shell out that $500 and take care of the problem.”

Grrrrrrr.

I’m sorry, but this kind of response is just totally NOT helpful. If that poor soul had the money, then that is exactly what he or she would do. And guess what, smarty-pants? They already told you they DON’T HAVE IT. So how’s about snapping out of your perfect little world and answering the question?

Having experienced the same problem myself (and having now researched the various solutions), here is how I would answer it.

Car heater not working? So sorry to hear it–let’s get you fixed up quickly. Here’s a 3-prong solution for you.

A. Emergency solution to get you (shivering and with teeth chattering) to work: Get a plug-in cigarette lighter portable car heater for $13. The ride will still be miserable (sorry, Sweetheart)–but your windows will be defrosted and you won’t get into an accident or pulled over by a police officer. So the glass is really half-full, right?

B. Take care of the kids. Get a 3-way adapter (assuming you’ve got two little cuties to transport in the back seat). In one of the sockets goes your $13 portable car heater. In the other two sockets go your heated car seat covers, for $17 apiece. Total purchase? Under $50! (I highly recommend Amazon Prime, by the way. You’ll get free shipping and second-day delivery with every purchase.) Note: It’s mighty important to get the kind of adapter that shows you some indication of how your battery charge is doing. You don’t want to find that your plug-ins have totally drained your battery! It’s also a good idea to remove the adapter from the socket each time you get out of the car–just to make sure that the juice isn’t flowing out in a slow drain when the car is just sitting in your driveway.

C. If you plan to replace the car soon (or get that heater fixed), then don’t invest any more than that in devices for the car itself. Consider (if you have a garage) saving for an infrared electric garage heater for under $200. Even when you do replace or fix the vehicle, you will appreciate that little comfort. It’ll get you more heat and spread it around better. You can also use it to heat a patio or deck if you choose. It’s a marvelous device–and portable so long as you don’t get a wall-mounted model. So no, you do NOT have to spend that $500 to get the car’s heater fixed. At least, not this moment.

You may end up needing to do that by the time your next vehicle inspection date rolls around. But don’t go running up your credit card bill–try to save up and take care of that repair when you’ve got the money.

The Highest Scoring Scrabble and Words With Friends Words

The options facing a player in Scrabble or Words with Friends are huge – with one hundred tiles in the bag and a wide variety of space and options on the board, there are hundreds of potential plays every turn. This article will explore the best Scrabble words that expert players have used in tournaments, to inspire you to grander scores!

Starting with your opening play – The highest scoring word you can use as a first play, using all the tiles you have is MUZJIKS for a whopping one hundred and twenty-eight points. Two other words available in the international Scrabble dictionary are QUARTZY and SQUEEZY, which are both worth one hundred and twenty-six points apiece. As unlikely as it would be to get these exact tiles on your first play, they are scrabble words that are worth remembering for normal play.

There are five words in the North American Scrabble dictionary that are capable of an insane three hundred and ninety-two points each. These words are BEZIQUES, CAZIQUES, MEZQUITE MEZQUITS, and OXAZEPAM. To get the amazing point score for any of these words, the word needs to be spelled over two triple-word squares with a high-points tile on the double-letter score (e.g. a Z tile, Q tile, or X tile). This means playing the word at the side of the board, and connecting to an existing word. For this reason, points at this scale are generally rare.

In addition to these words, there are three eight-letter words which will can score up to three hundred and seventy-four points. These are Bingo words (7-letter words which can form another word with an additional letter). These words must be again played over two triple-word squares, with the highest available letter on a double-word square. The words are: HIGHJACK, WHIZBANG, and QUETZALS. Two other slightly lower scoring bingo words are QUIXOTIC and MUSQUASH, which score three hundred and fifty-six, and three hundred and thirty-eight points respectively.

Finally, the mother of all high-point words is the incredibly unlikely OXYPHENBUTAZONE. At fifteen letters long it would take up an entire side of the Scrabble board, and score an unbelievable one thousand, seven hundred and seventy-eight points. The set of circumstances required to make this word are so contrived that you have to be collaborating with a willing opponent to make it happen. In fact, in online games of Wordscraper you will see bored people trying to game the system by continually passing turns until they can make it happen for them.

Sadie "The Goat" Farrell – The Queen of the Waterfront

Volume 3 – Mobsters – Farrell, Sadie “The Goat” – The Queen of the Waterfront

She was not as vicious with her claws as the Dead Rabbits’ Hellcat Maggie. Nor as big and strong as an Amazon riverfront bouncer named Gallus Mag. But Sadie “The Goat” Farrell made more money than both women combined when she was the “Queen of the New York Waterfront.”

Sadie Farrell was born and raised in the slums of the Fourth Ward near the East River. As a young girl she hung around with street hustlers and thieves. Slight of built, but mean and vicious, Sadie usually worked the streets around the docks in concert with a male companion, who gave her the muscle backup she needed. When a mark emerged drunk from one of the local dives, Sadie would take a running start, then ram the top of her head into the victim’s stomach.

This was a dangerous maneuver, since sometimes the person delivering the headbutt does more damage to themselves than to the intended victim. But Sadie was a pro, and she made sure only the top of her head made contact with the victim’s gut, and not sensitive areas like her nose and forehead. The headbutt stopped the victim in his tracks, and as soon as he turned his attention to Sadie, her male companion used a slingshot to propel a rock to the side of the victim’s head. If that didn’t work, a bat or a sap always did the trick. Then Sadie and her partner would take everything of value from the unconscious mark, even his shirt, pants and shoes. This was small-time work for Sadie, but it still puffed up her reputation on the East Side docks.

One day, Sadie made the mistake of having one too many belts in the Hole-in-the-Wall bar on Dover Street, just two blocks from the East River. The bouncer at the Hole-in-the-Wall was a six-foot female creature from England named Gallus Mag. Mag patrolled the bar with a small bat strapped to her wrist, which she was not reticent to use on unruly customers. If after a few whacks on the head the drunk was still feisty, Mag would then wrap him in a headlock, then bite off one of his ears, before she flung him out the front door. The ear would then go into a jug of alcohol, which Mag proudly displayed behind the bar. The jars filled with ears behind the bar was called “Gallus Mag’s Trophy Case.”

Sadie being Irish and Mag being from England was an accident waiting to happen. It’s not certain who started the slurs first, but it’s a good bet it was Sadie, and that was not a smart thing to do. Mag, who was twice Sadie’s size, bopped Sadie on the head a few times with the bat, but Sadie still flailed away at Mag with a vengeance.

Another not a smart thing to do.

Mag enveloped Sadie’s head with her massive arms, and in a flash, one of Sadie’s ears had been detached from the side of her head. Mag deposited Sadie on her rump on Dover Street, then deposited Sadie’s ear in an alcohol-filled jug, and proudly displayed it behind the bar. Mag even scripted on the jug, “Sadie the Goat’s Ear.”

Disgraced and disheartened, Sadie took her show on the road and wound up on the West Side docks, clear around to other side of Manhattan from her former haunts. One day while wandering around trying to figure out how to make a score, Sadie witnessed members of the Charlton Street Gang unsuccessfully attempting to board a small sloop anchored in the middle of the North River (now called the Hudson River). The Charlton Street Gang was so inept and disorganized, the ship’s crew had no trouble beating them back and beating them up in the process. Sadie figured with her expert direction, the gang would do much better than before if she were the boss. So Sadie helped the gang members lick their wounds, and then convinced them with her brains and their brawn, they could make a very successful team indeed.

A few days later, with Sadie leading the gang, they were able to hijack a much larger sloop, and with the “Jolly Roger” (skull and crossbones) flying from the masthead, Captain Sadie led the gang up and down the North and Harlem Rivers, up to Poughkeepsie and beyond. They raided small villages; robbing poor people’s farm houses and the riverside mansion of the rich. Because ocean liners and major shipping vessels were so well-protected, Sadie and her crew concentrated on raiding smaller up-river merchant ships instead.

Sadie was so into her “River Pirate” routine, she began reading voraciously on pirate history and pirate lore. After discovering that pirates had once kidnapped Julius Caesar, she ordered her crew to go on a kidnapping spree. In the spirit of old pirate traditions, some true, some contrived, Sadie even forced several members of her own gang to walk the plank if they did not do exactly as she demanded.

For several months, Sadie and her crew were extremely successful in their endeavors. They stashed their booty in several hiding places, until they could dispose of it for cold, hard cash, though the various fences along the North and East Rivers. One of these fences was Marm Mandelbaum, who through her store on Clinton Street, was said to be the largest fence on the entire east coast of America.

But all good things must come to an end.

After several home owners were murdered by Sadie and Charlton Street Gang, the upstate Hudson Valley residents banded together and formed a force of resistance. The farm folk ambushed the Charlton Street Gang as it came ashore, and police patrolling New York’s harbor stopped them from pillaging the small merchant ships on the North River. Soon, so many gang member were killed, Sadie was forced to abandon her pirating ways. What was left of the Charlton Street Gang went back to the West Side docks, and soon they completely disbanded.

Sadie decided to return to her old haunts in the Fourth Ward, where she was now hailed as the “Queen of the Waterfront.” With the cash she had earned from her pirating days, Sadie opened up her own gin mill.

Soon after Sadie’s return to the East Side docks, the Hole-in-the-Wall bar was the site of seven murders in just two months. As a result, the New York City police shut down the Hole-in-the-Wall bar for good. But before last call at the Hole-in-the-Wall, Sadie visited Gallus Mag. The two girls made up, and Mag was so gracious, she went behind the bar, retrieved Sadie’s pickled ear, and returned it to its rightful owner.

Sadie wore her severed ear in a locket around her neck for the rest of her life.

The Purpose of a LED Third Brake Light and Rear Fog Light

In Europe and Japan, there is a mandatory regulation that requires all cars to have a rear fog lamp installed and positioned on the driver side lower rear bumper. The purpose of this lamp is to increase visibility of the car on the road in poor conditions such as fog and haze. While this is not a requirement in the US, it is still permitted to have and is found on many imported cars such as Scion FR-S, Subaru BRZ, Volkswagen GTi, etc.

On the freeway, some European vehicles may have the driver side of the tail light illuminated brighter than the other side and while many may think this is a defective light, it is actually acting as a rear fog light. If this is something that catches another driver’s eye, it is serving its purpose quite well. The rear fog light in Europe has the same brightness as a stop light for vehicles in the United States.

Unlike the rear fog light, the United States does require all vehicles made after 1986 to have a functioning third brake light that lights up with the outside tail lights when stepping on the brakes. This signals to other drivers on the road that you are slowing down since the outside tail lights may not be as noticeable. The more light that is available during the day or night will increase visibility of the vehicle to prevent accidents from happening and is something that should be taken quite seriously. In the United States, there are many vehicles that have red reflector lenses on the rear bumper so the light from other cars can reflect off it.

In the aftermarket world, alternative lighting solutions have been introduced to allow car owners to get the add-on rear fog light for both better styles to make the car looks prettier and also to improve the safety.

For example, LED bumper reflectors are invented to fit many cars such as Lexus IS250/IS350, Honda CR-Z, and Kia Optima. This kind of LED bumper reflectors will convert the dummy reflectors with LED lights inside to function as 4th brake light (also as rear fog light)

Another example is the all new LED conversion for cars like Scion FR-S, Subaru BRZ and Nissan 370Z’s rear center reflector. With the drill pit, wiring, socket and LED light in this conversion kit, car owner can “plant” a LED bulb inside this rear center reflector housing to work as this 4th brake/tail/fog light.

With no doubt, more innovated ideas for the rear fog light designs will come out to make the cars not only safer on the road, but also better looking.

Benefits of Aquarium Light

Aquarium light is an important feature of an aquarium. It provides benefits for both the fishes and plants in the aquarium. A common type of lighting used for aquariums is fluorescent tubes. It is considered as an appropriate type of lighting for a fish tank. Using this form of aquarium lighting has several advantages.

Many fishes are dependent on their coloration during signalling and courtship. As aquarium light helps to enhance the colours of the fish, it aids the fish in these activities. Fish aquarium lighting also enables the fish to see their surroundings better. In particular, it helps them to see their food as and other fishes. Plants depend on light to survive. They need light to photosynthesize and manufacture their own food. Furthermore, in the process of photosynthesis, they give out oxygen which is beneficial for the fishes. The best part of all is that lighting enhances the beauty and colour of the fish tank.

One of the most widely used forms of aquarium lighting is fluorescent tubes. However, you should only use aquatic fluorescent tubes which are specially designed for aquariums. One advantage of fluorescent lighting is that it does not produce too much heat and hence, do not have any bad effects on the water temperature of the aquarium. The low heat also allows the tubes to be placed inside a hood. Another advantage is that these tubes emit light from the red and blue portion of the spectrum which corresponds to that of natural sunlight. Thus, it serves as a good alternative to sunlight for the fishes. Besides, fluorescent tubes have a long life, an estimate of several thousand hours. Hence, you do not need to change the tubes very often. This saves you some costs. In fact, fluorescent tubes are not costly to buy and are easy to maintain. Furthermore, they are sufficiently bright for use.

Fluorescent lighting is available in different spectrums. For example, there are white, blue and pink light tubes. White light tubes are designed to replicate the noon sunlight while blue light tubes are meant to replicate the moonlight. Pink tubes are good in enhancing the colours of the fish and improving plant growth. You can have a choice of selecting the colour that suits your needs.

Aquarium light, as shown above, provides benefits for the fishes and plants in the aquarium. The best part is that it is able to transform your fish tank from a dark and dull one to a bright and colourful one. As seen from above, fluorescent lighting has several advantages. Most importantly, they are widely available, and are not costly to install and maintain. Please visit Aquarium Lights website for more information

The Importance Of Global Warming Awareness 2007

Composite findings of about 2,000 scientists do not augur well for future years due to the alarming rate the earth’s lower atmosphere is warming up. The world is being warned of hunger and thirst for millions (even billions) due to global warming. The continuous emission of greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide and methane has worsened the situation especially in the most recent years. Global warming has triggered climate change in all parts of the world, most apparent of which is the warming of the polar zones which has flushed water from the melted ice to the oceans, disrupting the ecology and the affecting the lifestyle of thousands of people.

Millions of homes (pegged at 7 million) could be washed away by sea levels that are continuously on the swell. The Great Barrier Reef, the pride of Australia and the refuge of most of the world’s most treasured sea creatures, (the living reef in itself considered as the biggest organism in the world) could die in just decades, the same reports say. This is part of the draft of the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Global Warming Awareness 2007 or IPCC. This highly compelling study from IPCC is a significant development it has always been reputed for no-nonsense (neutral), highly statistical (cautious) reporting.

Australia is a focal point in one part of the reports, warning on the effects of warmer and more acidic seas on the Great Barrier Reef (mainly coral bleaching) by 2030. This detrimental effect is caused by the death of the corals, leaving only its skeleton (used to be sold but is now prohibited as decorative items tourist shops).

In the report, scientists say that the coast northeast of Australia known as The World Heritage would be most damaged by warmer temperatures. This means extinction of more than 133,000 square miles of underwater living wonders.

Over the past century (reference year 1900), global temperatures on the average have risen from 0.7 to 0.8 degrees. This has been documented as the culprit in the ongoing death or bleaching of the Indian coral reefs, as well as those in the Indian Ocean. Warmer temperatures also means more evaporation increasing the concentration of water vapor in the atmosphere, another influencing factor that has increased the greenhouse effect over the oceans by 4% over the past 35 years.

Once temperature increase reaches 2 – 3 degrees above that in 1900, Australias alpine zones will totally be gone. Another scary consequence would be the imminent total destruction of Amazon forest system of South America. The greatest casualty: biodiversity.

As with any late realizations, global warming awareness is not without tradeoffs in regards to human and economic costs, which is relatively higher in poor countries. Many African countries are now being debilitated by very serious water shortages. Flooding of coastal areas in low-lying regions is now a common phenomenon. Hardest hit are Bangladesh and many islands along the Pacific.

Other alarming consequences of global warming include:

Killer heat waves . They will be worse, will last longer, and will be more frequent than that of summer 2003 which hit southern Europe.

Stronger, more destructive tropical storms and hurricanes. There will also be marked increase in rainfall and flooding of coastlines.

High probability of ice-free summers in the Arctic, ongoing melting of mountain glaciers, ice caps and ice sheets.

Significant rise in sea levels. Even if carbon dioxide levels will be stabilized, the world will still stand witness to higher sea levels 0.43 meters higher in 2100 and 0.8 meters by 2300.

Comparison Between Some Types of Bearings

Ball bearing is a commonly used kind of mechanical product. It is a type of rolling-element bearing which uses balls to maintain the separation between the moving parts of the bearing. Generally, they are made out of steel.

Hydraumatic bearing is another kind. It has hydraulic fluid and oil that fits within the metal sections which makes the joints in the machine run smoother. Sleeve bearings utilize a central shaft that rotates inside of a cylinder separated by a layer of lubricant. And they are usually applied to connect devices moving at variable speeds.

These three bearing products have many advantages as well as disadvantages. Ball bearings have a wide range of applications. They can commonly be used in machinery industry and in wheels of vehicles like cars, buses and motorcycles. Generally, they can last a long time, but the actual lifespan should be based on the usage, the pressure they get, and the maintenance measures. Besides, their design allows them to be positioned vertically or horizontally without ill effect. And they also generate little friction. However, they also have many disadvantages. For example, when compared to the sleeve bearings, they are louder and create a higher-frequency sound.

Hydraumatic bearing are very durable and quiet. They can function smoothly. They also have special applications. However, they also bear some negative aspects. For instance, they do require maintenance to keep them in shape.

As to sleeve bearings, although they have many defects such as reduced lifespan when used in a non-vertical position, decreased life of devices under high-temperature environments and so on, their advantages still outweigh their disadvantages. They are much quieter than equivalent ball bearings and they work well in quiet environments. Usually, they also have an expected lifetime in low-temperature environments. Moreover, they are less expensive.

According to the above content, we can conclude that different bearing types have their own characteristics. Therefore, they can be applied to meet people’s various requirements.

Ideas For Decorating A Girls Bedroom

If you have little girl, then sooner or later your going to be looking for ideas for decorating a girls bedroom because every little girl wants her room to be a special place that she loves to be in. Here some tips that might help you out.

Theme Bedrooms

One thing you might consider is going with a decorating theme. This is usually a character or certain type of thing your little girl likes. It could be something like Dora the Explorer, Hello Kitty or even a more general theme like ballerinas or animals.

Luckily, you can get girls bedding sets with these themes on them which will help pull the room together. What you want to do if this is the direction you’re going in, is find a bedding set that you really like and then paint the room one of the colors from the set. Now you don’t want to use the predominant color because I’ll be too much but pick one of the accent colors and use that on the walls. Look for accessories that match the scheme or the colors in the bedding to round out the room.

Color Focused Bedrooms

Another thing you might want to consider is opting for a particular color scheme that you can personalize for most any theme with accent pieces. This is a great idea if you don’t want to redecorate the room every year because you can just switch out the bedding and accent pieces and give it a totally different look.

If you are going to go with color, make sure that you choose a palette that your daughter will like well into her teens. You could paint all four walls the same color, or add a little interest by painting one wall a different color or even adding wallpaper. If you do go with wallpaper though you want to be sure you don’t add anything to specific that will box you into a certain theme.

Make sure that the rug is not the exact same color as the walls as this will be too monochromatic. Usually a darker colored rug is a good way to go especially in a kid’s room.

Budget Bedrooms

If you are like most parents, you’re probably on a budget which is why this is one of the most popular ideas for decorating a girls bedroom. Of course, like anything that saves money this method involves some leg work and elbow grease. First you’ll want to choose a color scheme for the room.

Getting furniture and artwork for the walls can be expensive but if you shop at secondhand stores you can get some really great stuff for pennies on the dollar. You’ll probably want to paint the furniture to match the color palette in the room and this way you can get mismatched pieces but make them seem like they match because they will all be the same color. Tie them together and add interest by replacing the knobs and handles with colorful interesting knobs.

Buy a nice bedding set to soften the room and give it added appeal. The bedding set might set you back a bit but the money that you are saving on the furniture and accessories will more than offset that.

Kennel Flooring – What is the Best Option For Your Dog Run?

I have a golden retriever. She is a 3 year old house dog who is completely potty trained. My back yard is fenced, and I let her go outside all the time. The problem is, I’m starting a full time JOB which will keep me away for hours at a time. I cannot leave her in the house for that long and do not want to put her in a crate. Letting her roam the back yard is my only option, but I get worried that she will get lonely and try to find a way out (it’s happened once before.)

After exploring my options, I’ve decided on purchasing a dog run. I plan on putting it in a nice shady spot in the corner of the yard. But here is my problem: the outdoor kennel needs some kind of floor. I could just plop it on the grass, but that will turn into a muddy mess in no time. So I set out to see what kennel flooring options are available.

My first thought was to throw down some indoor/outdoor carpeting. Maybe get it in some funky color to spice up her space?? A doggy diva has a reputation to maintain you know. So I ran down to Lowe’s garden department. As I was searching I came across another option – outdoor patio flooring. Not as many color options nor nearly as stylish as outdoor carpeting. When the guy working there asked me what I was looking for and I told him, he pointed out that the dog is going to be doing her business somewhere on her dog run floor, and that the outdoor rug would be toast in no time flat.

My next stop was the local farm supply store. They suggested I use stall mats, like what they put in horse stalls. The mats are about an inch thick and made of heavy rubber. You cut them down to whatever size you need. Cleaning them isn’t a huge issue, as you just sweep them off or hose them down. You can even use a cleaner on them. They are kind of squooshy, which would make it comfortable for my dog when she’s laying down, chillin. I could even throw down some wood shavings, which, I was told, keep a fresh smell in my kennel and certain kinds of wood even keep the fleas away.

While pondering stall mats, I began to brainstorm about other types of floor mats. Bar floor mats? They have lots of holes, which would be great for drainage in case she spills her drink. But her paws might get stuck in the holes, and they could sink down into the ground. Kiddy floor mats? Available in primary colors and she could learn her ABC’s and 123’s at the same time! Actually they do make interlocking floor tiles for dog runs. You put them together like puzzle pieces.

Another thought is to install a concrete pad. After all, that is what the professionals use for their kennels. I pointed out to my husband that it’s a simple DIY kind of weekend project. All he needs is some 2×4’s, a wheel barrel, and some concrete. He could whip that out in a morning and it would only take two to three days to cure, depending upon the weather. After it’s done, I could throw in a rug or blanket, maybe a styling dog house to give her somewhere to go in case of inclement weather, and string up some party lights to make her feel at home.

His response?

Doggy Door.

A Guide to Fuel Injector Cleaning – Methods and Precautions

The purpose of fuel injector cleaning is to remove the buildup of fuel varnish deposits and contaminants that clog injectors and affect their operation. They need periodic cleaning for optimal operation. Experts recommend fuel injector cleaning every 25,000 to 30,000 miles or once a year.

Fuel injector cleaning not only improves functionality but also helps restore and improve engine’s performance, reduce emissions and improve fuel economy.

One good thing in fuel injector cleaning is you can do it all by yourself, without the help of an auto mechanic. However, if the injector is badly clogged, you may need to take his help. Let’s take a look at the different methods used in the cleaning.

Method#1: Using fuel injector cleaning kits

Fuel injector cleaning kits are available at any auto supply store. Before connecting the kit, locate the fuel injector and take measures to prevent fuel entering the injectors. You can do this either by using tubing to bypass the fuel injector so that the fuel returns to the tank or by removing the fuel pump and blocking the fuel return line. Once it is done, disconnect the fuel pressure regulator.

Now, connect the cleaning kit to the fuel input port and remove fuel cap of the tank to release any pressure in the tank that may built up by the kit. Open the cleaning kit’s valve till its pressure value matches with the injection pressure value (you can find injection pressure value of your car’s engine from the manual).

Once the cleaning kit reaches the required pressure value, start the engine so that the cleaning solvent passes from the kit through the injector and removes the dirt and debris that clogged the fuel injector. This will take a few minutes. Once it is done, switch off the engine, remove the kit and reconnect the fuel lines, fuel pump and fuel pressure regulator. With this, the cleaning job is done. You can notice significant difference in your engine’s performance after the clean-up.

Method#2: Adding cleaner additives to the fuel

Adding cleaner additives, also called as detergents or deposit-control additives, to the fuel helps to control the dirt and debris accumulation in the fuel tank. These additives help reduce the volatility of lighter components of the fuel. Though, the fuel from gas stations do contain certain additives, some suppliers may not add the required amount of detergents; some even use use low cost, less effective alternatives. So, you need to add additional additives to fuel.

One of the commonly used best additives is polyetheramine (PEA). Though it is a bit expensive compared to others, it is proved to be effective in keeping the injectors, valves and combustion chamber clean and it does not require any additional fluidizers.

Method#3: Manual cleaning

On-car cleaning may not be that effective for a badly clogged injector because it cannot pass the cleaning solvent during the cleaning cycle. So, when on-car cleaning doesn’t work you can for off-car cleaning, which involves removing the injector from the vehicle and cleaning it. However, this

has to be done at service center.

Off-car cleaning requires special equipment and takes more time compared to on-car cleaning. However, this is more effective as it cleans each part of injector thoroughly. Moreover, it also allows flow-testing that checks the spray pattern and volume of the injectors to confirm that they are cleaned properly.

Precautions

• Make sure to disconnect pressurized fuel connection

• Ensure there are no fuel leaks or high pressure solvents in the engine while it is operating. These solvents are highly flammable.

• Wear safety goggles for eye protection

• Close all open sources of ignitions such as sparking plugs

• Avoid contact with cleaning solvent

• Use only the cleaning kits specific to fuel injector cleaning. Don’t use other cleaners like carburetor cleaner, brake cleaner, etc.

• Don’t overuse fuel additives as they may eventually damage expensive catalytic converters

These are the popular methods used for fuel injector cleaning. If you experience clogged injectors frequently, it is better to replace them with good quality injectors that provide optimal performance for longer time.

Anatomy Of A Ski Boot

Understanding the anatomy of a ski boot will allow you to make an educated purchase as well as improve your ability to use your ski equipment effectively. The ski boot is the integral link between you and your ski. The movement and energy your body initiates is translated to the ski through the boot. Each component of a ski boot plays a specific role in both fit and performance.

Buckles

The buckles are what latch the ski boot closed. While there are many styles of buckles, the key components are the ladder, the bail, and the buckle itself. The ladder is the graduated rung that the bail, or wire, hooks onto so that the buckle can close to latch the boot tightly around the foot or ankle. Ski boots may have as many as four buckles, each drawing the boot tightly around a different segment of the foot or ankle.

Flex Adjustment

The flex of a boot is determined by the shins ability to move forward against the resistance the upper cuff of the boot provides. A stiffer boot will increase performance but is often less comfortable. A softer, more flexible boot will absorb more impact from the terrain but at the cost of performance. The flex adjustment allows the skier to fine-tune the stiffness of the boot to balance comfort and performance.

Forward Lean Adjustment

Simply explained, the forward lean of a boot is the amount the boot forces your ankle to bend when you are standing in it. Boots equipped with a forward lean adjustment can be fine-tuned to your own neutral athletic stance, where your knees and ankles are bent and your weight is primarily on the balls of your feet but evenly balanced from side to side so you are ready to respond quickly and move in any direction. (This is not a very comfortable way to stand for long periods of time but then you shouldn’t be standing around in your boots anyway!).

Footbed

The footbed of a ski boot provides the support for the sole of the foot. The greater the surface area of the foot making contact with the footbed the better the control and performance of the boot. For this reason, many skiers turn to custom moldable footbeds that match the contours of the foot perfectly.

Inner Liner

The inner liner provides both comfort and protection while increasing the performance of the ski. The padding of the inner liner cushions the foot and ankle, protects it from friction, impact and cold as well as creating full foot contact, which forms the foundation for energy to transfer from the body to the ski. Ski performance is directly related to how well the foot contacts the inner liner of the boot and how well the inner liner integrates with the outer shell.

Lateral Upper-Cuff Adjustment

The lateral upper-cuff adjustment is used to improve the lateral alignment of the leg in order to create a stable stance compensating for misalignment of the upper and lower leg.

Outer Shell

Typically made of plastic or composite, the outer shell provides stability to the boot and is primarily responsible for the transfer of energy from the body to the ski. The rigidity of the boot also provides foot and ankle protection.

Power Strap

The power strap is a Velcro at the top rim of the boot that secures the upper cuff comfortably around the calf.

Ramp Angle Adjustment

The ramp angle is the angle between your heel and the ball of your foot in relation to the ski. This angle is created primarily by the boot and on some boots may be adjusted to shift your center of mass either forward or backward in order to maintain a neutral athletic stance with the weight balanced on the balls of the feet while still allowing for the use of the entire foot to apply pressure to the ski.

Ski/Walk Feature

A ski/walk feature is included on many recreational boot models. It is a hinge on the boot cuff that opens the upper cuff, reducing the forward lean allowing for more comfort off the slopes without compromising on the slope performance.

Sole

The bottom of the boot that makes contact with the ski and binding is called the boot sole. Since this is the primary junction point between the boot and the ski it is critical to preserve its condition. Walking on hard surfaces can damage the boots sole changing the interaction between the boot and the binding reducing performance and safety. Toe and heel lugs are the portion of the sole that the binding grips onto. Some ski boots have replaceable lugs. This can save you some money if your boots sustain substantial wear and tear but it is better to simply protect the soles of your boots by covering them (Cat Tracks are a great product that cover and protect the soles of your boots) or refraining from walking around in your boots.

Upper Cuff

The upper cuff of a ski boot is the portion that wraps around the calf, upper ankle and shin. It is typically connected to the lower boot by a hinge and is responsible for the overall stiffness, lateral stability and forward lean of the boot.

Mind Body Connection – Dealing With Vertigo

Several years ago I suffered with bouts of vertigo. This out of balance disturbance was like spending the day literally on the tilt a whirl at a carnival, except the ride never stopped. The first time this happened to me I got out of bed and ran into the wall, the room and the floor were both spinning. I spent the rest of the day laying flat on my back afraid to move my head for fear this inside turbulence would begin again.

It took several tests and two doctors to determine that I had vertigo. In medical terms this is a condition that poses no real health threat and is unexplained. Unfortunately the medication did little for me except to make me drowsy and dizzy. Like many things in life I learned to compensate when vertigo struck, I did not move my head quickly, did not look up or down, and kept my eyes straight ahead. When a coworker suggested that perhaps my vertigo did not have only a physical cause I began to explore other possibilities.

Her comment was well aimed, at the time I was like Cinderella living with the two wicked stepsisters. My two teenage daughters were a constant challenge. They were like a wrestling tag team, one would go in weakening my resolve and then just when I thought I had a game plan they would switch off. I was definitely out of balance, both literally and figuratively.

Medical science searches for the causes of cancer, autoimmune disorders, chronic fatigue syndrome and a host of other conditions, yet it often ignores one of the most pervasive factors leading to illness, the hidden stresses embedded in our daily lives. As I read through countless books about the mind body connection I began to see that what I might need more than a new drug was some insight and emotional self-awareness.

I began to track my episodes of vertigo and bingo they coincided with conflicts I had with my daughters. The first was a classic. My oldest daughter had just quit her summer job in order to go to the 1999 Woodstock concert. She would return in time to pack up for college. She seemed to have little concern about the missed income from more summer employment. That bothered me but what bothered more was the concert itself. Four days of what seemed to me total debauchery. I handed her a bucket and a roll of toilet paper and said have fun. The entire time she was gone I tormented myself by viewing the web cam at the concert, it seemed to be a reunion of the best of the wildest and I was miserable knowing my daughter was joining in this event.

It took me awhile to make the connections but I realized that emotionally I was tangling up my daughter’s decisions with my own self worth and I was left with a heavy knot. I felt the weight of judgment that I believed was coming. I deflected family conversations about her without realizing that putting so much energy into denying and hiding things was costing me my personal sense of balance, I was stumbling, I was twirling and could not even look up or down.

Thankfully time, self-reflection and a decision to let love be my guide have assisted in my personal evolution. I also found an excellent ear, nose and throat doctor and between the two vertigo is a thing of the past.

I recently recounted this story to my younger daughter who is now a medical student. She marvels at the mysterious mind body connections that have been revealed to her in gross anatomy lab. She said that proof of this could be found in studying the erection of the male penis. All it takes is a thought transmitted to the primitive brain for blood to rush and engorge the penis. How all this happens is really a medical mystery because the physical change begins with a thought.

Do we really need more proof to know that our emotions and thoughts have a powerful influence on the health of our body?

It’s not just what we do but what and how we think. I have encountered many women who have experienced vertigo. As I share my story I ask them to reflect on this; who or what is keeping you out of balance? I don’t know why this condition seems to afflict more females. Perhaps it’s because as mothers our self-image is mirrored through our children. It’s hard to find balance that way. Maybe what we need is a mirror that focuses on more than just a reflection of ourselves.
