The Construction of Floors For Residential Homes

A floor is a horizontal structure which carries both dead and live loads in a building and divides the building into stories. Some buildings may have one, two, three or even four stories. These are important considerations when you are looking for an apartment to buy in Jamaica.

Floor is classified into two main categories, the ground floors and upper floors. There are two types of ground floor:

1. Solid Ground Floor

2. Suspended Ground Floor

The functions of the ground floor are:

i. To withstand the loads that will be imposed on them

ii. To prevent damp penetrating the building

iii. To be reasonably durable so as to reduce the amount of maintenance or replacement work to a minimum

iv. To provide an acceptable surface finish which will meet the needs of users with regards to appearance, comfort, safety, cleanliness and associated matter.

The functions of the upper floors are:

i. To support their own weight, ceiling and imposed loads

ii. To restrict the passage of fire

iii. To restrict the transmission of sound from one floor to another, particularly where this may seriously interfere with activities being undertaken.

iv. To possess an adequate standard of durability

v. To be capable of fairly quick erection

vi. To accommodate services readily

vii. To provide an adequate surface finish which will meet the needs of the users with regards to appearance, comfort, safety cleanliness and associated matters.

The principal materials for a floor are concrete, timber and steel.

The Floor Construction

To build a solid ground floor, the construction is essentially comprised of a combination of some of the following: plain or reinforced concrete bed, hardcore, blinding, selected marl fill and sand bed.

The concrete bed can be either reinforced or plain in-situ concrete, four or six inches thick. The concrete mix batching, mixing, transporting and pouring require careful observation so as to ensure good quality concrete. The reinforcement can be a fabric of welded mild steel or mild steel reinforcing bar. Reinforcement must be free from rust; wire brush to remove any scales. The water for the concrete must be clean. Though this principle is not always followed and a Jamaica real estate investor must be cognizant of this when searching for cheap apartments for sale in Jamaica.

The purpose of the hardcore ground floor is to make up the levels under the floor, to provide a firm working surface, prevent contamination of the lower part of the wet concrete during placing and compaction and reducing the amount of rising ground moisture.

Hardcore materials are rock waste, gravels, coarse sands, river shingles, block rubble, stone rubble and tile rubble. These materials should be hard, durable, must not react with any other materials, drain easily, consolidate quickly, be free from harmful substances and not attack concrete or block work mortar.

The blinding ground floor is needed to even off the surface of hardcore and provide a true surface from which reinforcement can be positioned. The composition of blinding floor generally consists of a layer of fine sand and weak concrete.

To build a ground floor with fine aggregates, that is sand or crushed gravel, the fine aggregates must be well graded, not uniform, free from dirt, salt and silt, free from excess fine and dusty particles and free from chemical impurities.

When building with coarse aggregates, that are gravel or stone chippings, the coarse aggregates must be durable, not be liable to any shrinkage, swelling or decomposing and free from organic impurities.

An important factor to note when building floors, the water for the concrete should be potable, clean and covered if stored in open drums. We encourage builders to take this in consideration when developing Jamaica real estate.

Last Longer During Sex – How to Sustain Killer Erections and Make Long Passionate Love

As a newsletter publisher, one of the most frequently asked question I received from readers are: “How do I last longer in sex?” They are embarrassed, ashamed and guilty because they often lose control when they make love to their partners. In reality, it is a common problem affecting more than 30% of men worldwide (Source: Journal of American Medical Association). If you are in the same shoe, today is going to be a lucky day. In this article, we are going to reveal two effective techniques to help you sustain stiffness and hardness of erection so that you are able to last a lot longer than you usually do.

#1. Penile pump: the device consists of cylinder tube and a manual (or motorized pump) pump. When the pump is fitted over the penis, it created vacuum environment around penile shaft. As a result, there will be increase in inflow blood to penile tissue, thus resulting in stronger and firmer erection. According to studies by scientist Graham Rutherford and Anne Henke, pumping may also help to strengthen penile muscles (Source: Wikipedia).

To make the most out of penile pump, it’s important to choose high quality product, preferably medically approved. If you use pump made of sub standard materials, it may cause following side effects: bruising, burst blood vessels, blisters and loss of sensation. In addition, you must follow the instructions very carefully to avoid potential injury.

#2. Ballooning technique: prior to sex, you can try ballooning technique to help you sustain hard rock erection for long period of time. Here’s how it works: have your partner to stimulate you by massaging your penile base and perineum. When she arouses you, pay close attention to your sensations and excitements without touching her. When you are very close to climax, have her to use fingers to apply pressure on your perineum. At the same time, you use your fingers to squeeze penile tip and Kegel muscle to refrain from climax. Next, gently stretch your penile shaft from base to head for 15-20 times. It helps to promote blood flow into penile tissues for harder erection.

Why 5S Fails to Produce Desired Results

Over the last 20 years I visited numerous manufacturing plants in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Venezuela, Peru, Spain and China to evaluate performance issues and workplace organization. I had the opportunity to look closely at their operations and see both the positive and negative aspect of those operations.

While each plant had its own strengths and weaknesses, one fact was clear: many of the plants had undertaken some form of workplace organization, some had implemented 5S. None were obtaining the results they desired when undertaking the effort. Some only practiced it when Upper Management was scheduled to visit, others only made half hearted attempts to implement 5S and few had any serious and lasting follow up

They were in effect merely going through the motions such as writing it into their mission statements, management loudly proclaim its virtues but taking little interest in the day to day mechanics, and claiming to have created a visual workspace when in reality all they did was little more than create signs. Clutter and unneeded items were for the most part still evident and employee had little apparent understanding of the need to keep it free of unneeded items

The fact of the matter is that we know what needs to be done. 5S is a lean manufacturing approach to manufacturing based on the Toyota Production System. The job of management in lean manufacturing is to identify and eliminate all forms of waste, including:

  • Over production – producing over customer requirements
  • Inventory – holding or purchasing excessive materials
  • Transportation – unnecessary handling
  • Waiting – time delays or idle time
  • Motion – actions of people that do not add value
  • Over-processing – unnecessary processing steps
  • Correction – producing scrap or parts that require rework
  • Not using human resources – not implementing the ideas / suggestions of employees.
  • There are many impediments to the implementation of lean manufacturing and especially to proper use of 5S principles and practices:
  • Incorrect plant performance measures
  • Wrong focus – too much attention to results, not enough on improving the processes
  • Lack of confidence in worker’s abilities to recognize and resolve problems;
  • Unwillingness to invest time and resources into correctly implementing 5S
  • Failure to recognize their survival obligation to all stake holders and that change is the key survival.

Incorrect plant performance measures

Performance is impacted by many factors, especially when the focus is on the short term. Most of these factors are beyond the immediate control of management. Cash flow (the life blood of any company) is impacted interest rates and can have a dramatic impact on your plant’s profitability. Government policies and over regulation impact profits in many ways. In addition, sales volumes or product pricing impacts the profit level of a plant. When these factors positively impact profit, the operation is viewed as successful, and generously rewarded even if management practices are ineffective and wasteful. When they have a negative impact on profits, even the best managers are often viewed as abysmal failures and removed from their position.

Worst of all, profit measurements are easily manipulated through “cooking the books”. In most of the facilities that I visited, it was very common and obvious that management was manipulating inventory levels in one form or another. One plant manager told me that while he wanted to reduce inventories, to keep his efficiency ratings high, he was had to over-produce during slack times. This led to higher inventory levels which if reduced to proper levels would have a negative impact on his profitability measure. Too great a focus on Profitability as a performance measurement typically results in short-term thinking. What incentive is there for a company that driven by profitability measures to invest in a 5S project which might have higher costs in the short-term has the potential for significant savings in the long term?

Wrong focus

People tend to do what they get rewarded to do. If their focus is on equipment utilization rather than on customer demand, the equipment will be run at full capacity, despite actual demand. The result is overproduction, which is the basis of virtually all manufacturing waste. Focusing on accountability for machine utilization has the undesirable effect of increasing waste.

In order to effectively and continually improve performance and eliminate waste, all processes need to be analyzed understood and then controlled. The measurement of process effectiveness will shift the focus to long-term improvements like 5S and will allow companies to reward managers for real performance. Measuring results on the other hand only promote manipulation and short-term thinking.

Lack of confidence in worker’s abilities

When management is unwilling to develop their employees and allow them the freedom to manage their own processes, they will miss the opportunity to capture the full potential of the organization. I am a firm believer that the solution to every problem that a company or plant faces, is currently located with in the four walls of that facility.

Unwillingness to invest time and resources into correctly implementing 5S

Management is driven by two things:

  • Budget
  • Schedule

Anything that interferes with either one is seen as an enemy of management, as a result many managers only give half hearted support to new ideas and projects they are not familiar with. This is compounded by the fact that most people who propose a lean initiative such s 5S don’t take the time to encode it the language of the business. They speak to generalities and the successes of other organizations. They fail to make a legitimate business case for the change. Managers have legitimate questions like:

  • How will this impact the budget? Is it a legitimate investment opportunity or just another flavor of the month?
  • How can we minimize the impact on the schedule and still provide the people to plan and implement 5S? Where do the extra people come from? Etc.

Many managers simply do not believe in the effectiveness of lean manufacturing and 5S in particular. Many of the managers I talked with defended poor manufacturing practices they routinely employed in order to keep their productivity numbers high and their bonuses on track.

Failure to recognize their survival obligation to all stake holders

Many managers feel that change is unnecessary. The company made money before the recession, and the good times will return when it is over. The focus is often on job security rather than employment security, the problem is, there is a sea change taking place in the world economy and companies are facing global competition like never before. Many managers fail to see the change that has occurred and the threat it brings to their very survival. They prefer to stick their head in the sand rather than address the need for their very survival – after all, the government will bail them out! The fact is jobs (including those of managers) are changing and managers better shift their focus to securing their employment and let the job change as needed.

One of the key elements of the manager’s job was control, which has been modified to include empowerment. In order to survive and remain employed, managers must give up a portion of their control to employees by letting them control more of their work area and work flow. 5S is an prime example of how to effectively empower employees while retaining necessary control over budget and schedule.

Producing Desired Results

If the plant is operating effectively (and you have properly linked operational measure to financial goals), profitability will follow. The key to making 5S produce the desired results is to link it to the goals and strategic objects of the company. The primary goal for most companies is to make money by producing a product or service that meets the needs of its customers. This fact often gets lost in the vision statements and lofty purpose statements of management. The vision should be what your company is going to do in order to meet that goal of making money. The Mission statement is how you will meet it. Typical purpose statements uttered by various levels of management that do not reflect the vision and mission statement merely confuse and divert the attention of the people who have to carry out the mission. The solution to this problem is the use of strategic thinking in order to define the needs of the business according to the stated vision and mission.

The next element in ensuring success, is to refocus the workforce on a new set of measurements and processes that are focused on increasing throughput, decreasing inventory and reducing operating costs. This means totally abandoning many of the traditional measure like efficiency and looking more to effectiveness instead. This will require analyzing your processes for the value they add to your products or services. In the short-term, this may lead to an increase in non-productive time. Smart managers will take advantage of this slack time to develop better uses of this non-productive time such as training, Total Productive Maintenance, team building, and continuous improvement activities. Proper training and management will alllow workers to spend their downtime improving the processes that they work on as well as their workplace. By eliminating wasteful, non-value added activities like overproduction and empowering and training your workforce, your company can improve their competitiveness and ensure its survival.

Your employees and their supporting staff will need all the tools and techniques of lean manufacturing and 5S practices to sustain, self-audit and continuously improve the workplace and their jobs. They will need a well thought out and planned program that is supported by management at all levels. Keep in mind that the most commonly missing element is often management commitment. If you invest everyone’s time and commitment in 5S, and a few individuals fail to maintain the standard, the program will collapse. Management must support the program with policies and procedures that are enforced.

Regular oversight also is required to ensure that the processes are working as intended or changed in a controlled fashion when needed. Management must not only commit the resources, they must commit their time to get involved. They must lead from the front and have a high visibility in the workplace.

Makeup For Ugly Women – Secret Makeup & Cosmetic Tips to Make Ugly Women Beautiful

Why do some of the most beautiful women you meet think themselves ugly? And what of the ones who are ugly but tend to do nothing about it and sulk. There is no such thing as ugly. Ugly is a word that means nothing more than something that does not look nice, but nice can be bettered to pretty attractive or handsome. Now stop sulking and get your act together. What women have to remember is that it is mostly themselves that see the ugliness and not other people. It is the norm for women to think they do not look good, even when they do; they would not be women if they did not. There is always going to be that one particular part of the body their not happy with. Whether it is the face, bottom, breasts, legs or whatever, they will find fault. And more times than not the person whose suffers the most due to the fault found is either the husband or boyfriend.

Makeup Beauty Tips

The biggest mistake women make when using cosmetics is the lack of knowledge on the beauty items they use. It is all well and good knowing where to apply the product on the body, but is this enough. No it is not. How much do you know about the slapstick you paint your face with. Do you know how much to use. Do you know what ingredients are contained in the cosmetics that fill your makeup bag? Do you know how to do a skin test for allergies, and how to deal with complications deriving from an allergic reaction? It is matters like this that is essential for you to know if the ugly duckling is to turn into a swan

There are a lot of beauty secrets out there that is still just that, “secret.” Should these get out then women have no excuse but to better improve the way they look. But because the secrets are kept secret then you have to work with the basics about makeup and use it to your advantage.

Choosing the right cosmetics is your first priority, and then learning how to correctly apply them. Mixing and matching colours is important also. If you manage to find a technique your comfortable with when applying your mascara, lipstick, eye shadow or whatever then half the battle is won. Having the knack regardless of what is involved will save you time, however if it includes makeup then not only can it save you time, but embarrassment too if people see you looking like Coco the Clown.

Getting accustomed to your “proper” beauty products will have you look beautifully glamorous.

How you can make an ugly face pretty. I know I said there is no such thing as ugly but I cannot get this through to them who beg to differ which leaves me no choice but to try and help these so called ugly women be beautiful, using their beauty products right..

Makeup Beauty Tips Below

Beautiful eyes are not an attractive feature but more a precious asset. Aside from your smile it is the eyes first thing people notice. Healthy eyes are beautiful eyes. If you know you have fabulous eyes but lately they look dreary and tired then to add sparkle use chilled eye drops. Eye drops will revitalize the eyes and increase the look of liveliness. Eye lash curlers used on the lashes tend to open the eyes up wide to display stunningly gorgeous eyes. Salt is not good for the eyes, as to much can cause water retention which the outcome is eye puffiness (puffy or look swollen.) Alcohol is a common cause for redness in the eyes. You only have to look at someone slightly inebriated for proof.

Sun glasses should be worn to protect your eyes at all times in the sun. Wear a quality brand name of sunshades that will efficiently filter out the harmful UV rays. Never rub the eyes no matter how tempting it causes fine lines and wrinkles. When applying eye cream to the eyes smooth your finger lightly from your temple to your nose and gently massage into the skin. Eye treatments should contain natural ingredients Remove eye makeup every evening. As we get older the skin underneath the eyes thins and because of this the veins below become more visible hence dark looking circles under the eyes. Allergies can cause nasal inflammation which then increases the amount of pressure on the sinuses; this impedes the blood from draining which gives rise to blood pools in the veins and capillaries underneath the eye, creating blackness (dark under eye circles.)

Make my big nose look smaller

Is your nose long, if so face foundation a shade darker than your skin tone on either side of your nose will help?

If it is wide (roman) then the foundation needs to be smoothed below the nose where the nostrils meet.

Bring more action to your eyes using cosmetics to draw attention away from nose.

Highlight the lips with lip gloss and accentuate the cheek bones with blusher.

Do not wear your hair back if you want your nose to look smaller. Hairstyle tip: a sneaky move for taking attention away from your big nose is to part your hair on the side

Do not cover your face with your hair in hope to conceal your nose, people are not soft they know it is there and will automatically start scrutinizing your face till they find it, and if it is as big as you make out then it will not take them long. The less conspicuous your attempts are to try and hide your nose the better for you to save those blushes

Beauty is about natural and the more natural looking you are the better beautiful you will look.

Makeup Beauty Tips For Lips

For natural looking pinkish lips apply a small amount of beetroot juice before going to sleep.

Lightly rub the lips with lemon juice to avoid darkening of lips.

Treating your lips daily with mint juice or coriander leaf juice will keep them smooth and rosy.

Eat a healthy diet of fruits and vegetables; this is an overall health tip for the body which includes the eyes lips and skin also.

Exfoliate your lips once every 7 days. Wet a “soft” bristle toothbrush and carefully brush the lips

Beverages such as tea and coffee can be the cause of black lips and tobacco products too. To treat, mix lemon and glycerin together and smooth over your lips each evening before bed. Rinse it off in the morning. This will help lighten the lips.

Cosmetics can either make you or break you if you know what I mean, too much makeup can ruin a good look, and if not enough makeup is applied then the good look you do not get.

No matter how pretty and kissable the lips look, they will not look as good or get hooked upon by other lips if those pearly whites are not white.

Dental treatments/surgery is expensive, however no reason to let the teeth rot and decay. Looking after your teeth in the early years may prevent the need for dental treatment in the future. Brush the teeth 3 times a day and floss. Remember, bad breath is a big turn off. No matter how beautiful you are to look at and with all the curves in the right place do not expect any kisses if your breath smells. If you suffer from bad breath speak with your dentist. If your out on a night out and your breath smells of fags or garlic, carry a mini mouthwash spray in your hand bag

Eucalyptus Patio Furniture – 5 Tips for Maintenance and Care

Anyone interested in attractive yet affordable and durable patio furniture should look into eucalyptus patio furniture – a popular new trend in patio furniture for those qualities and more. If you decide to buy a set of eucalyptus furniture, or already have a set in your home or business, then you need to know how to maintain and care for your valuable furniture. Below are five tips for maintaining and caring for your eucalyptus furniture so that it stays attractive and functional for years to come.

Eucalyptus – also known as jarrah – has become a popular alternative to more traditional types of wooden patio furniture, like oak, maple, ash, cherry, pine, etc. – due to its natural beauty, affordability, durability, and resistance to damage, and wear and tear. One thing you can do to care for your outdoor patio tables and chairs made from eucalyptus is to regularly clean them. Remove any substances, such as food or animal droppings, from your furniture with a soft cloth and water. Be sure to dry off any wet surfaces, too.

You can also help maintain your furniture by applying teak oil to exposed surfaces. Teak oil acts as a natural preservative that helps the furniture to gleam and appear at its best but also resist the elements and negative effects that they can cause – such as peeling, cracking, and rotting. Rub teak oil into your furniture at least once a month, especially during the spring and summer months. It also makes a great polish for your eucalyptus patio furniture- which is perfect for when you want to spruce up your patio’s appearance for guests.

A third piece of advice to maintain and care for your furniture is to keep it as protected from the weather as possible. Rain, ice, sleet, hail, sunlight, and other meteorological manifestations can really hurt your furniture and cause it to chip, peel, crack, or splinter without proper care. One effective way to maintain your furniture from the elements is to waterproof it. You can use teak oil in conjunction with a commercial protective chemical that will seal your furniture and keep water from damaging it without harming the surface of your furniture.

To go along with waterproofing, a fourth tip is to purchase protective covers that go on your furniture while they are outdoors. Ideally, you will want to store your furniture when it is not being used. This is not always practical, though, so the next best thing is to use waterproof covers that also block out UV rays. Most covers are made from synthetic materials and come with adjustable straps and fasteners to keep them in place.

Finally, to keep your furniture looking its best and holding up for years, you should consider placing protective surfaces on the bottom of your table and chair legs. Eucalyptus patio furniture is made from wood, and wood can rot. Your table legs and chair legs in particular are vulnerable because they rest on surfaces that become damp and wet. To keep rot from affecting your tables and chairs from the bottom up, try placing rubber caps on the bottom.

By taking these simple hints and tips and putting them into practice, you can ensure that your furniture is there to stay for years to come, right on your patio where it belongs.

2004-2006 Pontiac GTO – Is It Worthy of the GTO Name?

Pontiac is guilty of revisionist history in the 2005 GTO sales brochure. In the brochure, a timeline of significant milestones in the 41 year history of the GTO is presented. The 1964 model naturally leads off the timeline. After all, this car flagrantly violated GM’s anti-racing edict of 1957 and single handedly defined an entirely new category of automobiles. The 1966 GTO also earns mention as the first of the Ram-Air models, followed by the 400 cubic inch 1967 and then the fabled GTO Judge in 1969. However, from 1970 until the 2004 rebirth – the timeline is blank. It’s as if Pontiac has excised all memory of the potent-but-porcine 1971-72 GTO or the underachieving Nova derived 1973 models. And, of course there is zero mention of the puerile Grand-Am based GTO concept that GM paraded around the show circuit in the early nineties.

With the missteps that sullied the reputation of the most famous icon in muscle car history, we can appreciate Pontiac’s selective corporate memory. They do however raise legitimate questions about the 2005 GTO. Is this car worthy of the GTO name? Will the new GTO be remembered 20 years hence as one of the “great ones” or will its memory be the victim of a Stalinist purge from the record?

In our opinion, the 2005 GTO is the real article – and in many ways a perfect modern interpretation of the legendary 1964 GTO. We urge you to drive one, because to drive this car is to love this car.

We had the honor of driving an Impulse Blue 2005 GTO six speed at Josephs Pontiac in Norwell, Massachusetts. Josephs has been selling and servicing Pontiacs since 1928 and to this day it’s an honored and loved south shore landmark with some of the friendliest people you’re likely to meet. This family knows Pontiac, and talk about classic and future Pontiacs with obvious passion. It’s a place where neighbors drop by to chat over coffee and you’re just as likely to see Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler stop in for a tank of fuel. Compared to the soulless auto mega malls, Josephs Pontiac is a direct link back to a better time – and no finer place exists to test drive a legendary Pontiac marque.

Let’s start with styling – arguably the most contentious issue surrounding the 2005 GTO. The car magazines have roundly criticized Pontiac for ultra conservative styling that belies the performance capabilities of the car. We say the critics are idiots – or at the least totally ignorant of the original GTO design philosophy. The 1964-67 GTO was NEVER about visual flash. John DeLorean and Jim Wangers started with the spare and unadorned Tempest body. They added a tasteful scooped hood, attractive wheelcovers and subtle sophisticated badges on the grille, fender and decklid. You had to look closely to pick up the visual clues, and we’d bet a good many people walked right by those early GTO’s with nary a second glance. The GTO wasn’t marketed to drive-through posers. It was a serious performance machine that kept a low visual profile and did it’s talking at the stoplight and dragstrip.

Economic and political considerations also played a part in the GTOs initial styling restraint. The market for the GTO was uncertain, so to minimize capital investments Pontiac needed to make due with the sleekest mid-sized coupe in the existing product portfolio. Pontiac division chief John DeLorean also had to tread lightly for fear of attracting unfavorable attention from the horsepower-phobic GM Executive team. Whatever the reasons, the 1964-67 GTO stands as one of the most tasteful and timelessly styled muscle cars of the era.

The 2005 GTO is a perfect stylistic and economic interpretation of the original. To keep costs low and time to market short, Pontiac raided it’s worldwide parts bin to come up with the most handsome rear drive coupe in the stable, the Australian Holden Monaro. Its lines are tight, clean and tasteful. The GTO badging is subtle as are the twin non-functional hood bulges. As in 1964, you have look for the subtle visual clues as to the true nature of this car. Back in the day, gearheads learned to quickly differentiate the heavyweights from the palookas. It seldom was about shiny paint, garish graphics and chrome wheels. The most serious cars were often the most visually unremarkable – and you learned to look for the tiny “426 Hemi” fender emblems, or the steel wheels with DOT legal Mickey Thompsons. You learned to listen for or the choppy idle of a 305 degree solid cam. And so it is with the 2005 GTO. You’ve got to know what to look for.

Automotive posers won’t get it and they likely won’t recognize it. And that’s fine with us. The 2005 GTO is for people confident in their own skin – people who prefer to kick ass and take names under the radar screen. People like you and me.

In 2005, Pontiac responded to styling criticisms by adding the aforementioned hood scoops and an optional Sport Appearance Package. Our test car was thankfully absent this option. We urge you to boycott the Sport Appearance package as it represents an ominous return of Pontiac’s worst styling excesses in the 1980s. The front fascia is blocky and ham-handed, as are the vestigial “gills” over the quad outlet exhaust tips. Our concern is that if enough people purchase this silly option, GM will interpret this as market approval of flash over substance and we’ll be back to the days of the “Screaming Chicken” and the Mustang Cobra II. Just say NO!

So what’s the 2005 GTO like to drive? Mana baby, pure mana! The full frame doors open and close with a solid thunk – and the upper window frame promises wind, rattle and leak proof glass. The interior is quite simply GM’s best. Ever. The full instrument cluster is legible – rimmed in brushed nickel and color keyed to the exterior paint. On our Impulse Blue tester this was an unexpected and elegant touch. The interior panels are finished in matte gloss soft touch padding – a dramatic improvement from GM’s traditional glossy hard plastic interior trimming. Interior space is good, seat comfort excellent and visual sightlines good. About the only criticism we could levy at the interior is the steering wheel. While it feels good in your hand, the center pad looks like a giant goofy Shriners hat. This car needs a steering wheel that better emulates the gorgeous GM rosewood wheels from the 1960s.

Twist the key and the starter engages with a satisfying and substantial whirr – like it’s spinning over a high compression big block. The 6.0 LS2 V8 roars to life and the exhaust note is intoxicating. Deep, mellow and throaty with not a hint of tinniness. Blip the throttle and the the pipes pop and spit as the revs fall. Think big block power boat and you’d be close to the effect. Close your eyes and it’s 1969 all over again!

Clutch takeup is smooth and dead precise. With 400 Lb/ft of torque (SAE net!!) the GTO steps off cleanly and crisply with little driveline lash. The six speed Tremec trans shifts easily, with just the right amount of mechanical notchiness to remind you what’s happening on the other end of the lever. An especially nice touch is the slight shifter vibration you feel while accelerating hard in third gear. Anyone who’s ever rowed a Muncie M22, Ford Toploader or MoPar A833 through a Hurst shifter knows that feeling. There’s a generation of drivers raised on cable shifted, rubber insulated transaxles that have no clue what this feels like!

The ride is firm and precise with no impact harshness over sharp bumps. The steering is satisfyingly sharp with excellent turn in and good road feel. The GTO tracks straight and true with little dartiness on rough pavement. There are no squeaks and rattles and the GTO exudes a hefty solidity and stiffness reminiscent of the Porsche 928. This is a car you could easily live with on a daily basis – equally adept at ferrying Grandma to Bingo as ripping up the back roads.

The GTO LS2 makes a true 400 horsepower. In pre-1972 SAE gross ratings the number is likely around 470 BHP at the flywheel. Compression is a stratospheric 10.9 and the lightweight valvetrain, efficient cylinder head port design and 90mm throttle body make this motor a smooth, torquey and rev happy screamer. Think about that for a moment. 400 horsepower for $33,000 – or about $82.50 per pony. And, you can service it at any of thousands of GM outlets nationwide for pocket change. And it gets 25 MPG per the EPA highway cycle. Given the monumental strides in GM product quality in the past decade, it’s a reasonable expectation that the GTO will require only routine maintenance in the course of prudent, conscientious ownership.

The 1996 Porsche 911 Turbo made 400 horsepower and stickered for about $120,000 ($300 per). The 2000 BMW M5 made 400 horses and stickered at about $80,000 ($200 per). And the sticker price of these Teutonic supercars was just the minimum ante. Think $200 oil changes, $1,000 routine maintenance bills and you get idea. These aren’t cars for you and me. These are cars for the trust fund kids you knew and hated in college. The GTO is a car for normal people, just like in 1964.

This car flat cranks – and the LS2 pulls cleanly in every gear from idle to the 6,500 redline. The LS2 really comes alive at over 3,000 RPM, and when you stand on the pedal in first or second you ought to have the wheel pointing straight ahead – because the tires are going to break loose. Under more gentle throttle inputs the GTO accelerates without histrionics – just a liquid, seemingly limitless rush to the upper limits of the speedometer. Modern engine management ensures that there are no flat spots in the fuel and spark delivery. Think well tuned LS-6 Chevelle and you’ll be in the low-end ballpark of just how effortlessly the GTO accelerates. The shifter is direct with well-defined gates and shift effort appropriate for a supercar. The exhaust note is heavenly, but no so loud as to cause your wife to shrink in her seat from embarrassment.

This is a very serious performance car, and we’d be surprised if the GTO wasn’t good for a sub-5 second dash to 60. The quarter mile times ought to be around 13.30 at 108 MPH. These are huge numbers, and vastly superior to ANY stock GTO from the past – including the fabled 1969-70 Ram-Air IV. It’s merely a matter of time before companies like Lingenfelter begin marketing supercharger kits and stroker LS2 motors – so if stock isn’t fast enough the days of 500 HP GTOs can’t be far off.

So, what’s the conclusion? We believe that the 2005 GTO is for real and in most ways a true spiritual successor to the original. The styling is handsome, interior exceptional and the driving experience is simultaneously comfortable and thrilling. This is NOT a car for the “bling bling” crowd who live to be seen and endlessly chase the approval of their peer group. It’s a car for self confident performance enthusiasts who value substance over style. It’s a car for GTO people.

We want this car to succeed because it will presage the permanent return of such cars not only by GM but Ford and Daimler-Chrysler. We urge you to drive it – because you’ll likely buy it!

Try a Dental Flipper For Your Missing Teeth

Dental flippers are one type of removable partial dentures, or “removable partials.” All removable partials, including dental flippers, use standard acrylic denture teeth to replace missing natural teeth. The pink base or “plate” portion of a partial denture is an acrylic material identical to the base used in standard full dentures.

The Fabrication

The fabrication of dental flippers requires several steps. The dentist or dental technician first takes an impression of the patient’s mouth. A plaster cast is then poured using that impression. The plaster cast and a prescription specifying the appropriate tooth color are sent to a dental laboratory for the actual fabrication.

The laboratory’s technician selects the proper shape and number of acrylic teeth in a shade that most closely matches the specifications in the dental flipper prescription. An acrylic plate is then carefully molded to fit the patient’s palate (for an upper flipper) or to fit just inside the tongue side of the patient’s teeth (for a lower flipper).

Some dental flippers are secured in the patient’s mouth by the pink acrylic plate snapping between the teeth. For a slight additional cost, a dental flipper can be fabricated to be secured in the mouth using wires with small balls on the ends.

Uses for partial dentures

As mentioned earlier, dental flippers are relatively inexpensive dental appliances used to replace one or more missing teeth. Often, they are used on a temporary basis while the patient waits for a more permanent dental crown or bridge to be fabricated. They can also be used to aid the healing process after dental implants have been put into place.

Although a dental flipper is intended to be a temporary solution, some are designed so well that it is not unheard of for people to wear them for many years.

Dental Flippers Have Some Distinct Advantages

Dental flippers are far less expensive than fixed dental bridges, implants and other types of dental appliances. In fact, they are the least expensive way to replace a missing tooth. The difference in their cost means that dental flippers offer a distinct advantage to patients with tight budgets.

Several missing teeth can be replaced at the same time by using a single partial denture. A partial denture can therefore avoid or at least postpone the need for individual bridges or dental implants when several teeth are missing. In addition, a fixed dental bridge might not be appropriate if three or more teeth in a row are missing, or if the teeth on either side of the missing teeth are not healthy. These issues do not present any difficulty when a dental flipper is used.

Despite being considered a temporary solution, many people wear partial dentures for many years. If the patient uses good oral hygiene and the dental flipper is properly maintained, it can provide an outward appearance similar to that of a more expensive permanent dental appliance.

Partial dentures can also serve as “immediate” partial dentures. A flipper can be fabricated before unhealthy teeth are extracted, and then be inserted immediately after the extraction. In addition, if a patient is already wearing a flipper but an additional natural tooth must be extracted, an impression can be made with the flipper in place. The dental lab uses this impression (with the flipper embedded in it) to insert a false tooth in place of the bad one. This is a one-day procedure, enabling a patient to have a good replacement tooth the same day the offending tooth is extracted. Aside from the cost advantage, the fact that new teeth can easily be added to an existing plate is perhaps the biggest advantage of using a partial denture.

Partial dentures may not be quite as aesthetically appealing as a permanent bridge because the clasping wires often used to secure them may not be completely concealed. Due to being removable, they are not as stable as bridges. They can also impair gum health if worn for extended periods, making good oral hygiene essential. Their irregular shapes also make them somewhat brittle and eating requires care or even removal to prevent breakage.

All in all, however, dental flippers are a viable and relatively inexpensive treatment option for people with missing teeth.

Learn How to Pop a Pit Bike Wheelie in 36 Seconds – 5 Super Tips

One of the best skills you can learn when riding a pit bike is popping a wheelie. Its pretty much the most tried trick newbie riders want to learn when first buying a Pit bike.

The principle and strategy once understood for popping a wheelie is quite easy just the implementation stage is the most challenging but I’ll give you some quick tips which will make you a expert in no time.

5 Fast Tips to Popping a wheelie

Don’t be scared to fall off Sounds obvious but no pain no gain. Your not going to get seriously hurt maybe a few bumps and bruisers but its all part of it. You need understand that if you are scared you will never master this trick because its inevitable you will come off. Wear the proper protective clothing like pants, helmet, pads, boots.

Balancing is the key When you start off I recommend you use second gear for the main duration of the wheelie. After you move from first to second gear lean back putting you body weight towards the rear of the seat. Your bottom should be almost to the end of the seat so you center of gravity is over halfway. You must lean back enough so the front wheel is greater that 45 degrees.

Using Your foot brakes to balance Keep leaning back and slowly increasing the throttle. You are trying to find the balance point of the bike. If you find your going to back flip don’t worry a easy way to combat this is to either put your feet down and let go of the bike or tap on the rear foot brake and it will lower the front wheel. If the bike falls don’t worry it won’t break just maybe a few scratches. Another way is to drag you feet on the ground as you initiate the wheelie. This is kind of cheating but its a good way to learn. When you can balance then put your feet on the pegs.

Holding your revs in the Wheelie to keep momentum If you don’t keep the revs up the front wheel will drop down because you lost momentum and speed. You can correct this by changing up a gear to third but this is a little more advanced and you must master the balancing first before attempting this stage.

Holding the wheelie for a extending time with Gears changers Changing gears keeps your revs up but additional skill is need because your on the back wheel while changing gears. Again this is similar to “Keeping your momentum” and for the more advanced rider. You can wheelie for miles if you change gears. I know riders who can wheelie for 3-4 miles on a Pit bike. Yes amazing I must admit.

Super little trick for newbie riders: If you want to pop wheelies for miles then use this trick. Well its not really a trick more like a modification to your bike. Keep the revs up to max and don’t be scared to use your foot brake allot. What we are going to do is attach a front mounted brake on the handle bars for the rear. Because your the foot brake is only small on pit bikes its harder find sometimes. Your feet will slip during riding so when you need to use the foot brake to prevent back flipping your foot could slip. Take off the foot brake assembly pedal all together so there is no foot back pedal. Remove the existing hydraulic cable and buy a longer one similar to the length of your front brakes but it must reach from the rear brake assembly to your front handle bars. You need to buy a front brake housing assembly for the left hand side. You can source them off eBay very cheaply $20-$30. It must be the left hand side because obviously the right hand side is needed for the throttle. A Py90 or Quad assembly will do the trick. Make sure it matches the bolt diameter of the hydraulic brake line so will match the both brake housings. Bleed the brakes so it works. Now you have front mounted Rear brakes. Wheelie at you hearts on content and when you feel your going to back flip tap on the left hand brake and your front wheel will immediately come down 🙂 (make sure all the parts are properly fitted by a qualified mechanic)

Explaining Different Types And Uses Of Excavators

Excavators are construction vehicles used in various construction activities like road construction for digging and the moving material on the site. They are also commonly referred to as backhoes or diggers, called so because they use wire rope or a hydraulic system to dig holes and trenches. An excavator has a long boom arm that is mounted on a pivot and connected at an elbow to a stick that holds the bucket.

The bucket is an attachment and can be removed and replaced by a different accessory depending on the specification of the work being done. The excavator can be used for different operations at the construction site. The cab of an excavator can rotate a full 360 degrees. For this reason, another common name for an excavator is the 360 degree digger.

An excavator can either be mounted on wheels or on tracks. These are used to facilitate for its mobility and are used in different environments. Track hoes are the type of excavators that are mounted on tracks. Excavators are not only used in construction industries but can also be used in the mining industry and also for lifting heavy loads. Other common uses of excavators include; river dredging, demolition, landscaping and also material handling.

Excavators come in different types and sizes depending on the different jobs they can be employed on. Small excavators are commonly called mini or compact excavators and often come equipped with a bulldozer blade at the front. The smallest type of mini excavators is capable of fitting through a doorway. In contrast, the largest type of excavators can weigh an amazing 180000 lbs.

Compact excavators can be found in 2 distinct types namely the tail swing and zero tail swing models. Conventionally, all compact excavators were tail swing models and had an attached rear counterweight to prevent them from tipping while digging. However the counterweight makes it difficult to maneuver the vehicle as it extends beyond the tracks. The zero tail swing excavators on the other hand have a counter weight that doesn’t extend over the rails and hence make it easier for the operator to maneuver.

Excavators are mainly defined or specified by their arm force, dump height power rating and their dig depth. Originally, all excavators came with the bucket as the only attachment. However, current exactors have a variety of attachments such as grapples, breakers and augers. The buckets also come in different types e.g. tilt general purpose and sorting buckets.

The operator can control the side to side angle of tilt buckets while sorting buckets are used to separate large materials from the smaller ones. The quick attach mounting system makes it easier for attachment switching at the site.

Wood Sculpture – The Art of Chiseling

In the world of art, masterpieces are created to convey the message and notion of an artist. In literature, authors write books, novels, and stories. In painting, painters create portraits, sketches, depictions and other visual renderings. By merely reading or taking a look at their works of arts, you can have an idea about their characteristics and views. This is also true when we talk about the art of carving. Wood sculpture figure and appearance are based on the personalities and beliefs of its creator.

Wood carving or sculpting is not just a simple thing to do. It requires special skills. These skills could be learned professionally by attending carving lessons or through informal transfer of knowledge by your mentors, colleagues or elders. In a family, if a father has the talent in wood sculpting there’s a big possibility that one of his sons will also be a good sculptor someday. Sometimes, exposure to a certain task like carving would make way to acquire the skills naturally. This means that even an ordinary individual or you too could be an expert in wood sculpture.

There are several ways on how to sculpt an image. You can make use of a paper model or a carving machine. These two are being used by some woodwork manufacturers for business purposes especially if they do not have skillful wood carvers. But as you may know, these artificial ways of carvings have limitations and could not be considered as pieces of art works in its strict sense. Real experts in wood sculpture are doing the task manually with the use of basic tools like a sharp chisel and a little hammer. The hammer is used to aid the sculptor in chiseling. This kind of carving takes a long time and attention. Obviously, concentration is a must in creating a masterpiece. No wonder, handmade carvings are costly.

The choice of wood material to be used is also very important. Normally, hard wood is not an option in doing this art piece. It requires soft wood to avoid the possibilities of having cracks in chiseling all the way through to accomplish this three-dimensional handwork flawlessly. Anyway, there are several resources of good wood materials that you can choose from to have an incredible piece of wood sculpture.

This form of sculpture has an unlimited selection of subjects to work on. You can actually make anything under the sun as basis of your designs, depending on your motifs. Popular ones are birds and animals. Eagles and horses are two of the most famous models. I am sure you have already seen these kinds of wood works in different sizes. You can also apply your carving skills on doors. With artistic designs, the main entrance of your home will surely look so elegant. How about carving on pillars? Well, it would be more pleasant to the naked eyes if pillars have magnificent designs. But it would entail much physical efforts and time. Expect for hundred of drops of sweats before you can finally accomplish this task.

While it is true that wood carvings could be a great pastime activity, innovative wood sculpture could not be found anywhere, anytime. As carving itself is an art, those who are into it must be so imaginative and need to have overflowing ideas to create distinctive designs. Any figure that is to be chiseled into life through wood piece would mean achievement for its creator. His work of art actually spells the craftsmanship within him. Isn’t great to see a product of nature imitating nature itself through a creative mind and artistic hands? Appreciate the beauty of nature. Value any wood sculpture.

Dangers of Divorce

Last week we talked about how we look forward at our marriage to this wonderful person and want to live “happily after ever”. We got married believing that this relationship would last for the rest of our lives. We admire and honor those who have stayed married for entire adult lives. However, way too often, we forget that euphoria and start treating our mate as the enemy to be controlled, changed or gotten rid of. Why are the Pharisees (and so many of us) trying to excuse our divorces? Why do we try to pretend that breaking up a marriage is no big deal? After all, everybody does it and it’s easier to just get a divorce than to try to work out our problems. What does Jesus teach about divorce and why we should not end our marriages?

Someone told me that this title, Dangers of Divorce is negative. I should have a more positive title. So, I’m positive that divorce is dangerous. It is dangerous to husbands, wives, parents, children, relatives, friends, God, your church… Let’s see what Jesus says.

In Matthew 19:7-12; Mark 10:10-12, Jesus continues His answer to the Pharisees, who are trying to justify their getting divorces. Just like us, today, when we try to justify our sin in hopes of not being held accountable for doing something we know is wrong. He is not going to let them dishonor the Mosaic Law to justify their own sinful disregard for God’s commands regarding marriage. This may seem like a lot of attention to so few verses, but considering the state of marriage in much of the world today, I believe we need to come face to face with God and learn to honor His way with our marriages.

Divorce is not God’s PlanMatthew 19:7-8

The Pharisees continue pushing Jesus with their claim that Moses gave a command for them to divorce their wives. Jesus tells them that they have taken the Law totally out of context. The reason they were to divorce their wives is because they had married women from other nations and religions who God knew would turn them away from following Him. They were taking the Law out of context to justify their sin. They were interpreting part of it out of context and ignoring what God had said more than once regarding the sanctity and permanence of marriage. God never intended for them to divorce their Jewish wives. God always says marriage is for life.

Just like the Pharisees, we often try to bend God’s laws to justify our selfish actions. Divorce means that I don’t trust God in my marriage. The fact is that couples who get divorced end up with more problems than if they had stayed married and worked on their issues. If they would ask God to teach them to love their spouse, they would learn to get through those areas of conflict and find understanding, resolution, love and commitment.

Divorce means that you don’t know how to love. If your spouse was good enough to marry, they are good enough to stay married to (unless they have committed adultery and are unrepentant). It is interesting how a couple will want God to be in their wedding ceremony, but they don’t care to have Him in their marriage. And then, when communication breaks down and love gets hidden behind anger and selfishness, divorce is chosen as the solution instead of going back to God and trying to let Him back into the marriage.

Divorce is SinMatthew 19:9; Mark 10:10-12

Jesus continues His answer that divorcing your wife for any reason other than infidelity (her having sexual relations with someone else) and then marrying someone else, is sin. In like manner, it is just as wrong for the husband to have sex outside of the marriage as it is for the wife.

Those who have been divorced must face the music. Divorce means you are selfish. Divorce means you are not a person of your word. Divorce means that I don’t respect the sexual relationship between me and my spouse, nor the promise to keep myself to and her only. (This is now always applicable in a “no fault” state, but is often a contributor even in those locations.)

To have sex with someone you are not married to is a violation of God’s standards for the sexual relationship in marriage. Sex is the most intimate way that a man and woman can express their love for each other. That is partly why it is called “going all the way.” There is nothing more personal, totally self-giving and intimate that the sexual union. To violate that by having sex with someone other than your spouse is like spitting in the face of God. It is showing that you don’t respect Him or your spouse. In like manner, looking at another woman with lust is violating your promise to your wife. You pledged to keep yourself to her and her only. Looking at another woman longingly is violating that promise!

Divorce is Tolerated (It is not the Unforgivable Sin) Matthew 19:10-12

The Apostles come to Jesus after this remark and suggest that since marriage is so serious and divorce is so wrong, it isn’t even worth it to get married. No matter what we do, we are doomed. They are thinking that almost anything you do is going to be sin or lead to sin, so why try? Jesus advises them that marriage isn’t for everybody, neither is celibacy.

Divorce is certainly sin, especially when accompanied by remarriage. However, it is not unforgivable. At the same time, it is not necessary or important for a person to get married (as long as they remain celibate). As much value as we place on marriage and having children, not everyone is so inclined. Some people are sufficiently fulfilled without a mate. Some are in professions that would make marriage a difficult or dangerous thing to maintain and don’t want to put that danger or risk of their own death on a spouse. There are also some who are so hurt by their parents or some other event in their life that marriage absolutely does not appeal to them. If you do get married, remember that it is for life. We may think that divorce is not looked down on as much as it has been in the past, but this is not God’s design for you and your mate. Marriage is for life.

God bless you and have a great week!

Warli Painting: How to Do It at Home

Warli painting is a tribal art form of Maharashtra, India. The word ‘warli’ is derived from ‘warla’ meaning a piece of land. Warli paintings are simple and beautiful expressions of the daily life and social events of warli tribe. These paintings were originally used to decorate walls of village houses.

The themes of warli paintings are often human figures created in rhythmic patterns. They are mostly depicted doing their daily chores like showing, harvesting, drawing water from well and also dancing in social functions.

These paintings basically contains simple geometric patterns like circle (representing sun and moon), triangle (representing trees and mountains), squares (representing land). These shapes are joined together to form complete patterns.

The color theme is generally white painted on brick red mud walls. But you can experiment with other colors for background– like, henna, indigo, ochre, black, earthy mud.

The typical warli paintings are done on mud, charcoal or cow dung treated surfaces. Rice paste is used for the white color. But when doing it at home you can substitute the materials as per convenience and availability.

Materials required for warli painting at home:

1- Handmade paper or cloth

2- White Fabric color for cloth or poster color for paper

3- Tracing paper

4- Carbon sheet

Method of painting:

Step 1- Choose a design from internet or books.

Step 2- Enlarge it into required size.

Step 3- Trace the design unto tracing paper.

Step 4- Transfer the design unto the cloth or paper with the help of carbon sheet.

Step 5- Now paint on it with white color.

If using cloth, paint with fabric color and let it dry for 24 hours. Then iron it from the back side of the cloth. Warli painting can be experimented on many types of surfaces, like bed sheet, sarees, wall hanging, lamp shades, cushion covers, clay pots for decorative purposes.

You can also paint small corner of your house with geru (red mud) mixed with linseed oil for long lasting effect and do warli art on it. Decorate with some clay pots to give it more traditional look.

5 Advantages of LED Lightboxes

Lightboxes provide a vibrant way of displaying your business visuals, so that they really catch the eye of your customers. Display any image: a glossy advertising photograph of your latest product, an announcement of current special offers, a menu to entice passers-by outside a restaurant. Effectively a lightbox is graphic of any size that is backlit and encased in a unit. Because it is backlit it creates a visually dynamic effect which can be used even in low ambient lighting, to stand out clearly and glow appealingly.

With recent advances in LED technology, LED lightboxes are becoming more and more popular and have several significant advantages over the standard ones that use fluorescent lighting:

1. Power saving

LED lighting is extremely energy-efficient, using a fraction of the electricity of fluorescent lighting. This is an especially important concern with lightboxes, which are generally switched on for long periods of time, if not 24/7. This reduces the running costs of the light box considerably.

2. Long lasting

While fluorescent lighting has an estimated life-span of ten to fifteen thousand hours, LEDs last for an impressive thirty five to fifty thousand hours. This means that an LED lightbox can run for far longer than a fluorescent one without any need for maintenance and with no extra costs of replacement bulbs or tubes.

3. Carbon Footprint

In the current climate that expects businesses to look to their carbon footprint, reducing energy use is just one more step on the road to carbon neutral. LED lighting is ideal to use in conjunction with solar power so would be the perfect choice if you are aiming for a totally green business.

4. Slim line

Because LED light units are physically very small, the lightboxes can be equally slim, taking up less space and looking more elegant. This makes them suitable for use as decorative art displays as well as for advertising purposes.

5. Safety

Broken fluorescent tubes are a major health hazard, containing mercury among other heavy metals. They are problematic to dispose of safely too, without contaminating the environment. While lightboxes are less prone to breakages than household fluorescent tubes and CFLs, as there is a solid outer casing enclosing the light fittings, if safety or environmental pollution is a concern, choose LEDs instead. Not only do they last a whole lot longer, reducing the waste disposal load, but they are also a solid state light fitting, so are much tougher and less prone to breakage than glass-encased light bulbs or tubes.

Senior Activities – 2 Dice Games

So many activities for the elderly, and especially craft, are generally enjoyed more by women than by men. So because our menfolk are usually more competitive and love to play games, here are two games of dice that they will enjoy. They are simple to play and need no more equipment than a pair of dice and a pack of cards. In fact the first game, needs only the dice…

A Version of PIG

Best with 2, but can be played with up to four players.

You will need… 2 Dice, Paper and pen for scoring.

Goal… Be the first player to reach 100 points.

How to Play… Each player in turn throws the two dice together. He has three throws. He adds his points together as he goes.

If a 1 is rolled, that player’s turn ends and no points are earned. If after one or two throws he decides to “hold” (rather than risk a 1 on his next throw and losing all his points) he keeps his score and passes the dice onto the next player.

Scoring Examples…

Example 1: Peter rolls a 3 and a 4 and decides to continue. He then rolls a 6 and a 1. Because he rolled a 1, Peter’s turn ends and he earns 0 points.

Example 2: Jack rolls a 6 and a 2 and decides to continue. He then rolls a 6 and a 5 and decides to “hold”. Jack scores 19 points.

Example 3: Mike rolls a 2 and a 3 and decides to continue. He then rolls a 4 and a 2 and carries on to his third throw of a 4 and a 3. He scores 18 points.

NOTE: If a double is thrown then the player doubles that amount. Eg a double 4 will be 8 x 2 = 16 points, a double 6 will be 12 x 2 = 24 points. If a double 1 is thrown then the player gets 25 points for that throw. Only a single 1 will end the players turn.

When a player reaches a total of 100 or more points, the game ends and that player is the winner.

The second game is a big family favourite, played with zest by all ages from 5 year olds upwards…

Black or Red

For 2 Players

You will need… One dice, One pack of playing cards, 20 counters (or matchsticks or some kind of “money”) Paper and pen for scoring

Goal… Be the first player win 10 games

How to play… Each player gets 10 counters. Place the well-shuffled pack of cards between the players. First player throws the dice. He then picks up a card.

If the card is RED (hearts or diamonds) he pays the other player the number of counters as per his dice throw.

If the card is BLACK (clubs or spades) the other player must pay him the number of counters as per his dice throw.

It is then, the other players turn, to throw the dice and the game continues as above.

First player to gain all 20 counters wins the game.

First to win 10 games is the winner. (or less if you want)

Hope you will enjoy introducing these games to your senior menfolk. If you would like to find more Crafts and Activities for the Elderly then please visit My BLOG
