How to Relax at Work: Yoga Tools for Naysayers

Every day I have to decide: Is this the day I run, bike, hike, do anything other than Yoga? Although I find yoga is an excellent complement to other pursuits, I am personally challenged to make it a very regular practice.

How about you? Are you thinking about it, talking about it, doing it?

One thing I hear repeatedly from clients and group members is how crummy it feels to let work and distractions get in the way of carving out a self-care practice to reduce stress and improve health. As the ancient art of yoga has much to teach us about patience, presence, profit and joy, I reached out to certified yoga instructor Carolyn Weininger about how to translate core principles from the mat for more mindfulness and stress reduction off the mat.

Carolyn has been teaching yoga to a large and enthusiastic cadre of students in northern Virginia for 10 years. Carolyn's finely tuned instincts and outstanding teaching techniques combine to create an environment highly conducive to growth.

The following Q & A Interview captures Carolyn's insights – fresh from the perspective of a masterful yoga teacher and practitioner – to help us strengthen and sustain how we're showing up at work and in life each day.

Q: We hear a lot about how yoga can yield benefits in just 10-20 minutes a day. Do you agree or disagree and why?

A : I agree. Yoga has traditional benefits: building strength and stamina; correcting poor posture; improving flexibility; reducing stress, experiencing a new level of emotional calm and mental clarity. Conscious breath control throughout the day in stressful situations or just to focus on a particular problem is a very useful and healthy way of managing situations.

Although it is tempting to dismiss or delay what looks to be an optional activity / effort when time appears limited, less time can also be our friend. Consider how present we become when facing the time constraints of a deadline. How can you structure slivers of time to allow for self-care?

Q: What tips do you have for those who are looking for yogi techniques that could have been in the workplace, eg, at a desk, before a stressful conversation?

A: Closing your eyes and taking some long slow deliberate breaths will help you relax and refocus. Sit forward on your chair, lift your chest up straight. Inhale into the belly. As you exhale, relax your muscles – soften your jaw, and relax your shoulders back and down. Loosen hands and feet.

Resisting or ignoring the need to relax, refocus and breath is counterproductive to our health and productivity. What shifts for you when you take time out for breaks and breaths?

Q: How about getting started for those whose exercise regimen already feels quite full?

A: If you are brand new to yoga, a level I class will introduce you to the poses and breathing. If you are more familiar with yoga, taking yoga after a rigorous workout and trying more advanced poses will offer deeper strengthening and stretching. Finishing with savasana (relaxation pose) will extend this state off the mat.

Getting started, whether it's with yoga or a new business or personal practice, is often the hardest part. When an activity has meant for you, one strategy that gains momentum for my clients is putting it on the calendar and committing to stick with it for at least 4-6 weeks.

Q: There's been much attention slowly on introverts, due to publication of the bestselling book Quiet . What about extroverts (who get their energy by being actively engaged with others)? What advice do you have for them and others like them, who may find it particularly challenging to start or sustain a yoga practice?

Try a class with a friend. It makes it more fun to have a partner. Friends can also help you stay on target. Find a place and time that is convenient with your schedules and go at least once a week. Be sure to find an instructor that feels like a good fit. It may take a few classes to find the right fit – place, time and instructor.

You do not need to go it alone, on the mat or in business. If you find yourself struggling to get a class, situation or project, enlist someone to join, contribute or support you.

Q : How do you encourage those who already have a regular yoga practice to take it to the next level?

A : One thing that will take everyone else is to let go and relax. Breathe and be present, both on and off the mat.

It is so easy to get stuck doing things the same old way out of habit. To amp up to the next level, try setting your sights and practice on one or two specific poses or areas of concentration. What do you need to do for yourself to raise an aspect of your fitness regimen and / or business to the next level?

Q: I enjoy listening to the relaxing music you play in class. Where can others access your favorite tunes to promote relaxation and meditation?

A : I have been posting some of my playlists on iTunes ping – follow Carolyn Weininger. You can also go to yogitunes.com for a wide variety of yoga music.

Consider what happens to your mood and ability to relax when you tap in to the power of music.

Q: How do yoga benefits translate into ready-to-use benefits for work and life?

A : The goal of yoga is to be fully present, in the moment and in tune with your body.

A regular sustained practice of self-care is a core foundation for sustaining high levels of accomplishment and satisfaction at work and in life. Notice the impact of the presence or absence of self-care practices on your energy and output.

Over to You: What is most important about claiming a self-care practice? What benefits do you get from a regular yoga (or alternative) practice?

Pressure Cooker – The Benefits of Using One in Your Kitchen

Cooking is an integral part of every household. In turn, a pressure cooker is a very important utensil that is used for cooking food quickly. A pressure cooker is like any other pot in the kitchen, except that it has a more elaborate lid. This lid seals the cooker completely, and when the boiling process starts in it, it traps the steam inside. Consequently, it leads to a higher cooking temperature and saves cooking time.

This trapped pressure is measured in pound of force per square inch (PSI).

The gasket or rubber ring is a very important part of a pressure cooker, as it allows the pressure to build up inside the pot. It is fitted on the side of the lid. It is essential that you keep the gasket clean and free from any food particles to ensure a good seal.

There is a minimum of three valves in the latest pressure cookers, for safety reasons. They allow the automatic release of pressure in case it builds up too high. Different valves are used for different cookers.

Reasons to Use a Pressure Cooker

There are lots of reasonable as well as beneficial reasons for using this useful kitchen tool. Some of these include:

Nutritional Boost: A pressure cooker consumes less time and water in cooking food. It is able to hold in more vitamins and minerals than with conventional cooking methods.

Timesaving: Cooking in a pressure cooker is about 70 percent faster, which enables you to cook food speedily. You can put all the ingredients together and do something else as well, in the time you would normally take to cook your food.

Energy Efficient: Since a pressure cooker takes less time, the amount of energy consumed is also reduced.

Cooler Kitchen: As all the heat and pressure is trapped inside the pot, the kitchen keeps cooler compared to conventional stove top or oven methods.

Cleaner Kitchen: Since all the food is cooked inside a covered pot, there is no need for cleaning all the messy splashes or spatters you would normally need to clean up after cooking.

Tips for When Buying a Pressure Cooker

A good variety of pressure cookers are available in the market. Generally they range from four to eight quarts. A six-quart model is capable of performing most of the jobs, but you should opt for a larger model if for example, you have a big family.

Pressure cookers are made up of aluminum or stainless steel. Stainless steel is preferred over aluminum, as it is of a higher quality and results in better cooking. There is also less danger of food sticking to the bottom. The heavier stainless steel models are best for their ability to brown or sauté food before cooking it under pressure. This means there is no need to shift the food into the pressure cooker from another utensil.

Pressure cookers have really made cooking more easy and convenient. Just remember it is always recommended to go through the user manual and safety precautions first before using your pressure cooker for the first time.

They are rust resistant.
These pipes have good elastic properties.
Their adaptability to earth movements is superior.
Smooth internal surface of the pipes offer less friction.
Due to less friction it saves the energy in the conveyance of water.

Disadvantages of plastic pipes:

Due to their non-decomposing property, plastic pipes are not installed in high temperature.
They are easily cracked.
At higher temperatures, the strength of plastic pipes reduces.

It estimated that many people want to know are PVC water supply pipe safe?

PVC / CPVC – rigid plastic pipes similar to PVC drain pipes but with thicker walls to deal with municipal water pressure, introduced around 1970. PVC should be used for cold water only, or venting. CPVC can be used for hot and cold potable water supply. Connections are made with primers and solvent cements as required by code.

Yes, they are safe.

Modern PVC should be fine, probably better than copper. There are many forms of PVC out there and yes some of them do contain harmful plasticizers, but these are used to make them softer (such as cling film, or glad wrap where you are from to wrap food in). Under heat and in contact with fatty foods like cheese these will migrate.

PVC piping even these days is just PVC.

Get a filter jug and just filter your drinking water, as there are much more contaminants which could enter your water before reaching the apartment and it tastes better too.

For more pipe information on pvc drain pipe pipe and water supply pipe, you can go online for more information. Look forward to explore with you.

DIY Handrails For the Home

Do you have plans to build a deck anywhere on your house? How about the swimming pool area? Do not forget that garden, terrace or patio; they'll benefit from installation of a handrail system, too.

Let's talk about some of these applications for DIY handrails in your home. The staircase issue is a major one. As you know, safety is a huge concern whenever steps or stairs are involved. If you have staircases that do not have handrails on them, there is considerable risk of falling while ascending or descending them. This can be a huge liability to you in regard to your family, friends and other visitors to your home. Installation of a stainless steel handrail system would serve dual purposes; it would provide the safety needed to protect against falls and it would allow a design improvement that would complement your décor and change the look of the room.

If you have a staircase which is in need of repair, the same safety concerns apply. Replacing the existing railing with a brushed stainless steel railing would increase the safety potential as well as improve the staircase's aesthetic value. You could incorporate this improvement into a room remodel that modifies the decorating theme.

Another use for DIY handrails, and another safety concern, is the perimeter of your swimming pool. If you own a swimming pool, you accept a reasonable decline for the possibility of unintended "guests" (humans or animals) who wander into your pool area (for whatever purpose), accidently falling into the pool and possibly drowning. Installing a steel handrail system that incorporates either glass or wire rigging would secure your pool area in a safe and attractive manner.

How about the deck you built on the house last year? Or, even the one you're planning to build this year? You can add safety as well as a clean, classy look to your deck with the addition of a DIY handrail system. The brushed stainless steel finish combined with wire rigging looks great with any wooden deck and it is safe and secure for you, your family and your guests.

These DIY handrails are available in modular systems that are easy, safe and quick to install. You can design your own look by combining the steel with stone, glass or wire rigging. Use these systems in any area in which a handrail could be utilized and provide safety, first and foremost, with elegance and style as a bonus.

Know About Codes for Deck Railings

There is good reason there are building codes for deck railroads. They were written to protect homeowners and their visitors from danger. Some of the types of codes relevant to deck railings are distance of a deck off the ground requiring a railing, the distance required between balusters, and mandatory heights of railings.

To illustrate a municipal code for deck railroads, let's take the example of Loudon County, Virginia. Any structure constructed in Loudon County must abide by the building codes for Viginia, the "Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Code". This can be obtained on the internet for no charge. This building code specifies the requirements for anything involved in building a structure, such as mechanics, plumbing and fire codes in addition to the requirements relating decks. Reading and following this code will help you to stay within the law when building in the State of Virginia. If you plan to build a building, the Department of Building and Development will review your plans to make sure you are in compliance with the building code. These codes regarding railroads may differ from one area of the country to another, so it is important to make sure you get a copy of the code that applies to where you are building. You also have to make sure you are in compliance with zoning codes and the health codes of the area. All this has to be done before you apply for and obtain a building permit for the construction of your deck.

In the Virginia area we are discussing, decks can only be a single level high, and can only be used for residences. You are not allowed to have joist overhangs that are over two feet, and decks may not have the following: gazebos, hot tubs, roofs or screened porches. Sometimes there are objections to the rules applying to railroads. Some people may object to the requirement that the rail be a certain height because they feel it will obstruct their view. Since most codes will not allow you to adjust the height or fold down the railing in any way, that would cause a problem for the homeowner. Since the building code is considered law, not following the code means you are breaking the law. You would be required to present yourself in court and may have to pay a fine. Many people try to find ways around the building code, and the way many people have found to get around the height requirement of a railing is to have a cable rail system. Cable rails are almost invisible from a short distance, so, even though the top railing is still required, a cable railing can allow for an almost unobstructed view. We see that building codes for railings are necessary, but sometimes create a hardship for some homeowners.

Types of House Windows For Homes

If you would be installing new house windows to replace the old non-functional windows or installing new windows for the new room then somewhere you should know what windows you would need to meet your criteria. The best tips that you could get is to read some articles regarding reviews of windows and know how they are made, function and how you can save lots of money through their energy saving benefits. In America most homes prefer the energy efficient windows because it can keep them warm during cold weather while keeping the room cool during summer. Having this type of windows can make a difference in your energy saving tradition. Windows that have good fit, durable, double glazed and sturdy can help reduce noise and so they are good investments for homes that are near busy streets. However, such window type are sometimes more expensive than the ordinary type windows and so some do not consider them as easy buy.

So consider other options for windows that can benefit you. However, think that there are slight differences when it comes to types of doors. Fiberglass and wooden windows are cheaper and they can keep out cold air from entering your homes. Fiberglass can keep water leakage at bay while the wooden type can not. The vinyl type windows is also very convenient to use but more expensive than wood and fiberglass. Cold air can even penetrate its coating and it can not be painted on unlike wood windows that can be repainted over and over again. If you are not sure on what windows could best suit your requirements, ask the seller some advice and urge them to give installation service so that you will not have any fear choosing the wrong windows.

How to Create Your Reality With Belief and Passion

"Whether you believe you can or you believe you can not, you're right either way" – Henry Ford

In 1954, Roger Banister was the first man to run the one mile run in less than 4 minutes. Until then, for thousands of years, it was widely accepted by doctors and scientists that breaking this 4-minute barrier is impossible.

In Roger's own words, "It was widely believed that trying to break the 4-minute barrier is suicide." So, naturally, when I got up on my feet after having collapsed at the finish line, I assumed I was dead . " Roger broke that limiting barrier of belief. He made himself do the "impossible" .

He did not just with physical training, but also through mental training. He repeatedly "viewed" the act of breaking the barrier in his imagination many many times, and he did it with such passion, that breaking that barrier became a fact in his mind.

The important thing in his breakthrough was its impact on others.

In all of human history, no one has ever broken that barrier before Roger did. In fact, the belief in this barrier was so great that experts on the subject backed it up with alleged scientific proof, saying it was a physical impossibility. So, "surprisingly" , that was the reality at the time.

In the year following Roger's achievement, 37 other runners broke the barrier. And the year after that, 300 additional runners repeated that achievement!

Through Roger's conviction and conviction, he was able to realize his vision, and achieve the "impossible."

Thus affecting and inspiring thousands of other athletes, who were driven to surpass their own records.

That's the power of belief. It creates the reality around us, for better or worse.

You choose which reality you create in your life and which limits you place for yourself.

In the words of Martin Luther King, "Belief is taking the first step, even when you can not see the whole picture" . Are you ready to take that first step? Are you willing to create your own reality?

Are you ready to take the red pill? To let go of your fears, jump into the rabbit hole and see how deep it goes?

The editor rejected the artist's application for a job as an illustrator in his newspaper, and told him: "You do not possess any creative talent nor do you have original ideas . "

That young artist's name was Walt Disney who later went on to build an empire.

There's no doubt that in the early days of the 20th century, it was not realistic to believe in building an entire world of fantasy based on illustrated characters, which will bring joy to so many children and adults. But Walt Disney possessed a sense of confidence, which other people did not, and his optimism changed the reality for all of us.

Hundreds of millions of people all over the world grew up with the magical world of Walt Disney, a world that originated from one man's dream.

The belief that accompanied him through his path to success was:

"If I can dream it, then I can do it!"

Take the initiative. Break your limiting beliefs. The choice is yours.

It's your life. Live it well.

Sincerely yours,

Daniel Schweitzer

The Skinny on the iPhone 4th Generation

If you have had your eye on an iPhone, as I have here are a few things to consider before you pull the trigger and jump into the iPhone ecosystem.

The first thing to come to terms with is Smartphones themselves. Most Smartphone data plans are expensive. Most Smartphones have a lot of superfluous features that most folks do not need or use for the most part. The average person can get by with out one truth be known.

The second is your carrier. If you are with a carrier other than AT & T you'll need to switch and this can be an expensive. AT & T are the exclusive iPhone service providers. The exception to this expense is if you are at the end of your current contract.

The third thing you will have to come to terms with is the way Apple keep you using Their hardware running Only Their software. This is not such a bad thing until you find an application that is not Apple friendly that you would love to run on your phone. At that point you may want to jailbreak your iPhone allowing you to run any software you choose.

The last thing to come to terms with is the price. The full price for a 16GB iPhone is currently at $ 599 and for a 32GB you will set back $ 699. New customers and those who qualify for an upgrade get a big price break at $ 199. and $ 299 respectively. Of course as time goes by the price will come down. And there is always the option of buying outside of the carrier who will be your service provider.

Life Coaches Make Life Easier – Retrain Your Brain to Avoid Emotional Hijacks

Why hire a Fearless Living Life Coach? Because we make life easier.

Back in the old caveman days, there was not much stress beyond basic survival. For survival, primitives humans relied on their amygdala. This primal part of the brain thinks in black-and-white; either the caveman was safe or in danger.

When a caveman was in danger, the amygdala would trigger the fight or flight response. When being chased by a wild animal, the amygdala would prompt the release of adrenaline and cortisol. These hormones boost energy supplies by increasing blood pressure, heart rate and glucose in the blood stream. At the same time, they temporarily shut down some of our other bodily functions like the immune system, digestion and the reproductive system.

The chase would be over within seconds or minutes, and if the caveman survived, his hormone levels would start to return to normal. He would spend the rest of the day blissfully gathering berries or looking for firewood.

Modern humans

In modern-day America, the amygdala is working overtime. We are not being chased by wild animals, but those same stress hormones are being released when we are frustrated, impatient, worried, overwhelmed, confused, exhausted or misunderstood.

Remember, the amygdala only thinks black-or-white, safe-or-danger. So when we live a stressful life, we are living with too much cortisol and adrenaline in our system 24/7.

According to the Mayo Clinic, "overexposure to cortisol and other stress hormones – can disrupt almost all your body's processes. and worsening of skin conditions such as eczema. "

Unlike the caveman, modern humans have a well-developed frontal lobe that can bring logic to any situation. Yet we are hardwired to automatically respond to signals from the amygdala. That instantaneous response is called an Amygdala Hijacking.

Hijacked by fear

In a Hijacking, the frontal lobe does not get a chance to put its two-cents in, so the reaction comes without the benefit of logic. We may lash out, isolate, yell, avoid, cry, or freeze – all fight or flight responses. It's only later, when the logic kicks in, that we often regret our behavior or wished that we'd done things differently.

So what does this have to do with life coaching? It has everything to do with it … especially Fearless Living coaching.

Life coaches are in the business of helping people identify old patterns that do not work and replacing them with new ones. People often hire life coaches to help them reach goals or develop new strategies.

Fearless Living is about recognizing the clues leading up to an Amygdala Hijack, ie those old patterns. As a Fearless Living Coach, I help my clients identify their own brand of fear and fear responses. We work together to replace old fear responses with new empowering behaviors. As a result, my clients learn the tools and skills that stop most Amygdala Hijacks.

Retraining the brain

Without those Hijacks, people can access the higher mental functions of the frontal lobe. The frontal lobe is involved in planning, organizing, problem solving and long-term memory. It identifies possible consequences and can choose between good and bad actions. Plus, the frontal lobe is where our personality lives.

When my Fearless Living clients learn to interrupt the Hijacks, they gain more confidence and life balance. Their communication and time management skills improve. They often experience more wellness, because those stress hormones are not flooding their system. They begin to see a sweetness in their day-to-day life. Relationships thrive, and they experience more satisfaction and peace.

Those are the types of benefits that touch all areas of a client's life. Fearless Living is not about learning one new strategy or meeting one specific goal. It's about living life with a modern human's brain instead of the brain of a caveman.

As a Fearless Living Coach, I get the privilege of helping people retrain their brain to move out of the fight-or-flight survival mode into a place of freedom, wellness and ease. I put my clients' logical frontal lobe back in the driver's seat, allowing their personality to shine through. And that's the place where life just seems to get easier.
