Custom Spinner Rims – Spinner Attachments

Have you ever thought about a set of spinner rims for your vehicle? Sure you have and buying on line is the best way to go. Dare to drive something different, spinning car rims are one of the most popular car, truck and SUV accessories available. A spinning chrome rim is a step up from your normal custom aluminum alloy or chrome wheel and their flashy looks are very appealing.

Most spinning rims are spinner attachments mounted on custom wheels. But they will not work on just any custom wheels. Custom wheels that are designed with a negative offset or designed for rear wheel drive (RWD) vehicles can accept spinning rim attachments. Negative offset of a wheel means that the mounting surface of the wheel is positioned closer to the disk/drum, axle or behind the center line of the wheel and is commonly referred to as a deep dish wheel. This offset is common in older vehicles. Modern RWD custom wheels are deep enough so that the spinning rim attachment can ride inside the wheel. A negative offset custom wheel with a large rim lip of 1 to 2 inches is ideal for most spinning rim attachments.

How do I mount spinning rim attachments? Spinner wheel attachments are made from three parts. The spinner attachment is made from aluminum alloy and usually chrome plated. The spinner then rides on a heavy duty sealed roller bearing and attached to a base. The spinner base has holes or slots and through these slots bolts are used to mount the attachment on a custom wheel. These bolts screw into special lug nuts installed on the custom wheel. The special lug nuts and mounting bolts are part of a kit that must be purchased with the spinning wheel attachment.

Choose your new set of spinner attachments from manufacturers like Asanti, Chopper, Excess Spin, MC Motorsports, Mega-Spinners, Spintek, SpinWeel, Stop n Go and Vtec. You can find these spinner wheel attachments at many on line custom wheel suppliers.

Various Types of Weightlifting Grips

There are so many different styles of grips to remember in the gym. Overhand, underhand, hook, false, alternate, wide and close. What are they and what are they useful for?

Overhand is when your palms are facing away from you when gripping the bar. Overhand grip is used mostly when doing back exercises like chin ups, lat pull down or barbell row and it is also used when doing bicep exercises like reverse curls. When using the overhand grip you are also working the wrist extensor muscles (muscles on top of the forearm) especially when doing reverse curls.

Underhand grip is when your palms are facing towards you on certain exercises. Underhand is used mostly when doing bicep exercises such as barbell bicep curls and reverse grip chin-ups. It can also be used to do back exercises such as reverse grip barbell row and underhand lat pull down. The only down side to using the underhand grip when doing back is it does get the biceps pretty involved when lifting the weight.

Hammer grip is mainly used when doing bicep curls but may also be used when doing chin ups. Hammer grip is when the palms of your hand are facing each other. When using a hammer grip the wrist extensors are involved a lot more due to how the wrist is positioned. The only negative aspect with hammer grip is if you have weak wrist extensors they will fatigue before your biceps. Therefore do hammer grip as last exercise in your routine.

Alternate grip is when one hand is under and one hand is over (usually strong hand over weak hand under.) Alternate grip is rarely used in the gym but is primarily used when doing deadlifts and maybe chin-ups. The theory is when using an alternate grip (especially with the deadlift) is that the trainer can lift a lot more weight.

The false grip is a pretty common grip mostly when doing bench press. I don’t know why trainers tend to use this grip due to the fact that it is the most dangerous grip to use. Normally when gripping the bar with bench press you wrap your thumb around the bar and rest the bar in the palm of your hand. A false grip is slightly different, instead of wrapping your thumb around the bar you rest your thumb along the bar (like your giving a sideways thumbs up.) The danger with this is that there is nothing stopping the bar from rolling off the palm of your hand and land on your chest. I recommend using a false grip on machine exercises only.

Hook grip is used mostly when doing power cleans, snatch and maybe when doing deadlifts. To do a Hook grip you wrap your thumb around the bar and with your index, big and ring finger you pin your thumb to the bar. This helps hold the bar in place when doing power exercises like the clean and jerk. The only negative aspect of the hook grip is if you’re not used to it then you will probably end up losing a lot of skin off your thumb at first.

A wide grip is a grip that is wider than shoulder width. When using a wide grip for a bench press you are minimising the amount of tricep involvement and maximising the chest involvement. When doing a wide grip bicep curl you are involving more the inner (short) head of the bicep. Wide grip chin ups involves a lot more bicep than lats. It all depends on what you want to do and what your goals are.

When using a close grip (like the wide grip) you are using slightly different muscles. Close grip bench press minimises chest involvement and maximises the tricep involvement. Close grip lat pull down minimises back and maximises bicep and wrist extensor involvement. Close grip bicep curl works the outer head of the bicep more than the short head.

As you can see there are so many different styles of grips to become familiar with when working out in the gym. I hope this report has given you a few pointers on what they do and what exercises they are good for and what the differences are.

8 Cool Uses For Leftover Tile

It’s almost inevitable that you will have leftover tile after a flooring project. And, since you can’t just return them to the store, you’re stuck with the odd angles, shards, and full squares of tiles that remain. Before you drag them to the curb, tap into your inner-artist, and repurpose them in one of these easy, fun, and even functional art pieces.

1. If they’re small enough and colorful, use leftover tile pieces in a mosaic that can form an eye-catching centerpiece for a tile backsplash, fireplace mantel, or become it’s own work of stationary art. No matter what size the leftover tile pieces, you can easily break them down to mosaic-friendly pieces by placing them over a concrete slab and under a dishcloth. Then take a hammer, and smash away, right in the center. This is also a good way to let out any lingering frustrations over your original tiling project.

2. If the tile pieces are larger and smooth, lay them as an outdoor walkway or use them as steppingstones. Slate, natural stone, and even marble look great in the garden, and can even embellish fence borders.

3. Using superglue, leftover square tile can be repurposed as unique flowerpots. Just remember to drill a hole in the bottom for drainage!

4. Leftover tile perfectly adds spunk to an existing or ruined wooden furniture top! Choose your design-a mosaic, or whatever shape your leftover tile forms–and draw it out on your coffee tabletop, kitchen island, end table, or potting bench. Sand down the surface to remove any existing finish. Break down the tile to small chunks, if they aren’t already small and make sure the pieces that you lay are the same thickness. Caulk your pieces one by one into the wood, starting on the outside and working inwards, following the design you laid out. Add grout and let the surface dry. Use a tile scrubber to clean and add a glaze to prevent staining. Behold, your new art masterpiece!

5. If you have children, big square tile makes a great at-home arts and crafts project. Add paper, shapes, and embellishments with mod podge. Or paint the tiles directly with original artwork or handprints. You can arrange the artwork around your home.

6. Donate the extra tile to your child’s art teachers or local artists; both may appreciate tile scrap donations for their own work. Some Goodwill or Salvation Army stores accept large donations of leftover tile for other deal scavengers to repurpose in their homes.

7. Leftover tile can also make great drink coasters. Just put some chair-felt pads on the bottom, sand any hard edges, and you’re ready for guests and cold beverages.

8. If you have leftover peel-and-stick vinyl tiles, these can transform into flair almost anywhere in your home. For example, in the bathroom, peel away as many as you like, place them at a “diamond” angle, and affix a hook to the tile. Now, you can hang towels, hair rubber bands, or other décor. In the kitchen, do the same for potholders, utensils, or handy keys.

Always err on the side of caution when purchasing tile: it’s much better to end up with extra then to run out early. Plus, tile breaks in shipping and you can cut incorrectly. If you end up with leftovers (which you will), just dip into your artistic side and spice up your home with material right at your fingertips.

Understanding Space in Painting – Pictorial Space

Space is an essential knowledge in the understanding of design. Human beings live in space but a picture comprises only of a ‘flat surface’ with no actual space. It would be foolish to disregard this ‘flat surface’ as something insignificant in the context of Art. In fact this ‘ flat surface’ can be transformed into what is known as ‘pictorial space’. Pictorial space is a virtual space created by the artist in which the viewer is able to orientate himself to the art work.

This is no different from the space that architects and designers work with. Space is the first creative act of any drawing or painting scrawled on a piece of paper. Like an architect, a painter needs to determine before hand the manner in which the space can be depicted.

The way in which space is created tells us a lot about the painter’ s style and technique. There are several ways in which pictorial space can be composed.

1) Flat v.s Deep

Flat surface works are pretty much decorative while the invention of light, shade and shadow give art a whole new dimension.

2) Overlap

Overlapping image gives us an idea of what is front and what is at the back

3) Diminishing Sizes

The contrast in size of similar object such as a rock will suggest that the smaller piece is further away from the larger one

4) Planes

The movement of planes and the relationship of one plane to another create a powerful ‘push’ or ‘pull’ effect in which depth is instantly recognized.

5) Positive and Negative space

Within a composition, an expert artist is able to plan and handle positive and negative space effectively

How Many Light Bulbs Are In The Average American Household?

Many homeowners in today’s America, are aware of steps that can be taken to reduce the normal household expenses. Everyday things like sealing windows and doors, to insulating attic spaces properly can yield high returns for ones investment dollar. However one of the most over-looked ways to save money is by changing light bulbs.

Sure, we have all heard for years about switching to compact fluorescent lamps, and how changing one bulb can save up to $67.00 in energy. Further, many of us have gone to a store, purchased a few and started to save energy. We have prided ourselves on getting rid of the old incandescent light bulbs as part of our own person efforts to save the planet, but have we done all we can do? Chances are you have not even touched the tip of the energy-saving ladder.

Recently we conducted a home survey of over 500 homes in the southern Florida. Our intent was to find out what the average home usage of Compact Fluorescent Lamps (CFL’s) is. Our results were staggering and to say the least surprising. In our survey of mid size homes we found that only one in four (1:4) homes was currently using CFL’s. Further we found that not a single homeowner had changed all of their incandescent bulbs to CFL light bulbs.

In this study, home owners were asked an introductory question. How many light bulbs are in your home? Upon tallying and averaging the results to the question, the average American home owner guess was twenty-one incandescents per household. As part of our survey for the American home, each home owner was walked room by room, and around the outside of the home, counting each light. Not one person was able to guess or identify the true average number for their home. The average number of light bulbs per household was a whopping forty-seven, energy wasting lamps.

By our estimates, over 90% of residential consumers of electricity are not reaching their potential savings. If we calculate the energy savings obtainable by switching or replacing traditional incandescent or halogen’s in a home at a rate of $67.00 each, then the total achievable savings per home would be $3149.00.

Each home may vary in size, layout and number of fixtures or portable lamps, but here are the most commonly missed areas found in our survey and why you should chose to use them:

  • Outdoors: Porch lights and motion activated security lights can give great energy savings when changed to an energy saving lamp. Make sure the product you purchase is rated for use with switching devices.
  • Torchiere Lamps: Consider replacing double ended halogen fixtures with lamps that use a traditional screw base.
  • Closets: Using CFL bulbs in closets can aid in matching clothing colors because they provide higher color rendering and make sorting of blacks and dark blues easier.
  • Garage: Because CFL’s have higher color temperatures such as daylight, this makes it easier to perform tasks in traditionally poorly lit areas. Don’t forget the bulb inside the garage door opener.
  • Laundry Room: Using fluorescent or compacts in this area makes better use of task lighting for pre-treating clothing and sorting of stained items.
  • Refrigerator: Though this light doesn’t stay on long, LED bulbs may save up to $30.00 and keep food fresher.
  • Hallways: Though many people do not use them often, replacing bulbs in this area comes in handy when you need them.
  • Bathrooms: newer compact fluorescent lamps do not have long warm up times as older lamps. Using them in this area can drastically reduce electricity while providing better quality of light for tasks such as makeup and grooming.

Try the home survey for yourself. Make a chart of each type of light bulbs found in and out of your house or condominium. Denote which wattages and base types are required, and then find the energy-saving products that are available and simply add up your savings. Not only will it surprise you but you might just be able to afford that new energy-saving dishwasher you had your eye on!

Picnic Tables – How to Build a Paving Pad For Your Picnic Table

Does your picnic table reside on your lawn? Do you have to move it every time you mow the lawn? Pretty frustrating – right? Right! A real hassle especially if the table is large! Creating a paving pad to put under your table solves this little challenge and it doesn’t impose a great deal of work or expense either. And it looks fantastic! And you can say with pride that you built it yourself!

Most picnic or BBQ tables are between 5′ and 10′ wide at their widest point. ( Many, these days are hexagonal or octagonal and so a square pad is the most suitable. As long as your table is no bigger than 10′ across, a 10’*10′ pad would be ideal. The first thing to do is locate the position that you want to have your picnic table in. Just remember that to shift it after you put the pad down is going to involve quite a bit of work. You can choose any size of paving stones however a 2’*2′ paver , being so large means you don’t have to put so many down. 25 in fact, 5 each way.

Purchase the 25 2″ pavers, (aggregate pebbles on top looks great) and you will need 4 lengths of 2″*4″ treated lumber at 10′ long as well as 8 4″ galvanized nails and some lumber for pegs.

Lay out the pavers on an unused section of lawn. Leave a small gap between them to allow for sand. Now measure the distance along each side, cut the lumber at 45 degrees and nail the surrounding framework together. It will be a perfect fit. Now shift the lumber framework to the exact location that you want to place your picnic table. Make sure it is square by measuring from corner to corner. Mark around the outside of the frame with a spade. Shift the frame and dig out the lawn area out to a depth of 4″.

Now place the frame into the area dug out. Check for square. You now need to get the whole framework level. Drive pegs into the ground inside the frame and when you have it level, nail the pegs to the frame. The frame should be level with the height of the grass.

Now you require some sand, about 1 3/4 cu yards of sand. This will raise the bottom of the dug out area by about 2″. Level it off with a rake. Now you need to make a board to screen the sand to the correct level, just under 2″. The board needs to sit on the frame and extend down 1 3/4″. Keep working at it until the area is as level as possible. This will determine how level you get the pavers. Without walking on the sand area fit all of the 25 pavers into the sand area. They will fit perfectly with a small gap in between.

You need a little more sand to spread over the top of the pavers. Sweep the sand until all of the gaps are filled. Next it’s time to compact the pavers. This can be done with a board and a hammer. The vibration will settle the pavers into the sand. When this is done it may require a little more sand. Keep consolidating until no more sand disappears. Sweep the area of all the sand and – hey presto, you have a perfect paving pad for your picnic table. No more shifting the table to mow the lawn!

Why Topsoil Is Important To The Survival of the Planet

To put it simply: we need food. And except for seafood, we need good topsoil to grow nutritious food. We also need the topsoil to allow vegetation to remain stable and strong in its place. Thus the health of our topsoil is one of the most critical factors in keeping the health of our planet.

This fertile upper part of the soil which we call topsoil is the upper surface of the Earth’s crust. And it’s not much topsoil that we’re talking about. It is no deeper than approximately eight inches (20 centimeters).

Thus one good stroke with a shovel, or a pick, can put you to the depth of your topsoil. What is it that makes this thin layer of topsoil so necessary, compared to the soil underneath?

Earth’s topsoil mixes rich humus with minerals and composted material resulting in a nutritious substrate for plants and trees.

Plants and trees will of course grow even if the topsoil is not so rich, but the better quality the topsoil, the better quality of the ‘product’ — the vegetation or food — that grows in it. And the better quality of the food we grow, the healthier we are.

Or, in other words, when thinking about your health, you should concern yourself with the nutritive qualities of your food. Potatoes, apples, spinach or whatever other food, grown in rich soil will have more nutrition than the same items grown in depleted soil.

So if you are concerned about this, then you should consider how healthy or nutritive your soil is.

Thus the topsoil represents a delicate nutritional balance. And healthy topsoil results in healthy food and an overall healthy environment.

The delicate nature of topsoil was misunderstood until very recently.

An example of the dangers of ignoring topsoil occurred in the years leading up to the Great Depression in the USA, in the 1930s. Up to that time, farmers rotated crops to create a better crop yield but did not understand the process they were dealing with.

So, when economic pressures came full-on in the 1930s, farmers planted profitable crops repeatedly, rather than rotating the crops. There was just too much need for some predictable income. They needed a cash crop. In the short term this may have helped farmers, but ultimately this practice stripped the topsoil of nutritive value.

As the stripped soil did not support plants, even light winds could pick up the limited remaining topsoil.

The stripping of the topsoil, what we call erosion, has devastating affects on the quality of our food, and also on the ability of the land to retain water.

There has always been soil erosion. As part of a natural process, it’s termed as ‘background erosion’. In general, background erosion removes soil at roughly the same rate as soil is formed. But ‘accelerated’ soil erosion — loss of soil at a much faster rate than it is formed — is a far more recent problem.

This accelerated erosion is always a result of mankind’s unwise actions, such as overgrazing or unsuitable cultivation practices. These leave the land unprotected and vulnerable. Then, during times of erosive rainfall or windstorms, soil may be detached and possibly transported long distances, perhaps to the sea.

Accelerated soil erosion by water or wind may affect both agricultural areas and the natural environment, and is one of the most widespread of today’s environmental problems.

According to BBC news, “Soil erosion by water, wind and tillage affects both agriculture and the natural environment. Soil loss, and its associated impacts, is one of the most important (yet probably the least well-known) of today’s environmental problems.”

One way to avoid soil erosion and to enrich the land is to use crop rotation as an essential practice. And we need to understand why we do it.

Modern sustainable farming emphasizes crop rotation. Farmers keep crops in rotation; allow fields to lay fallow, and plant nitrogen fixing plants. Many farmers also plow plant material into the topsoil to enrich the humus and spread compost.

They may also put manure in the topsoil, to make it more nutritious and rich.

This delicate nature has not always been misunderstood. For example, in Biblical times farmers apparently knew to let the fields be unplanted for one year out of seven. This allowed the fields to regain their vitality.

Crop rotation was already mentioned in Roman literature, and referred to by great civilizations in Africa and Asia. From the end of the Middle Ages farmers in Europe for centuries used a three-year rotation, with rye or winter wheat followed by spring oats or barley, then letting the soil rest (fallow) during the third stage. The fact that suitable rotations made it possible to restore or to maintain a productive soil has long been recognized by planting spring crops for livestock in place of grains for human consumption.

So the next time you look at your soil, don’t just think of it as “dirt” but remember that our planet’s existence depends on topsoil.

The String Face Lift Uncovered – Can a String Face Lift Give You the Results You’re Looking For?

One of the most popular types of nonsurgical face lifts that have been getting a lot of press lately is the string face lift.  This kind of facelift is not only a lot less expensive than a regular face lift, but takes a shorter amount of time and has a much easier and shorter recovery period.  The string face lift is something that can help a lot of women and men achieve their goals in terms of a more youthful and firm face.  But you need to make sure to take the proper precautions before going under the knife (or rather, needle) to make sure that you get the results you’re looking for.

A string face lift is tremendously less expensive than a more traditional face lift, costing $1,500 to $4,000 as opposed to $6,000 to $15,000 for a surgical face lift.  On average, it will cost around $2,500, depending on the surgeon you use and what exactly you need done.  The entire procedure usually takes just about an hour, which is why a lot of people refer to it as a “lunchtime” or “weekend face lift.”  The recovery time is shorter as well, lasting about a week, most of which time the biggest thing you’ll need to do is to eat softer foods and take tylenol for pain relief.

A string face lift can make a huge difference for many of the men and women who want a more youthful appearance but don’t have very advanced signs of aging yet.  The optimal patient is usually between 35 and 45 years old and have started to lose their facial fat, resulting in a more prominent jaw, slightly sagging cheeks, and some under-eye bagging.  Someone who has more advanced signs of aging would need something a little more complicated, but a string face lift might be a part of a more intricate facial procedure.

One of the most important things about a string face lift– or any cosmetic face lift for that matter is making sure that you get the results you want.  You can make sure you come out looking the way you want by choosing a good face lift doctor who has before and after pictures that you like.  You can also bring in a picture of what you’d like to look like before you get started and discuss if your expectations are realistic for a string face lift.

One of the most unique things about a string face lift is the fact that you can actually watch the procedure and give your input.  Since you’re awake and just under a local anesthetic, you can observe as the doctor adjusts the threads and tell him or her exactly what you’d like done.  Having more control over the end result is another reason that getting a string face lift is such a popular choice lately, in addition to the lower cost and easier recovery time.

Las Vegas – A Healthy (Walking) City

I was in Las Vegas to celebrate a big birthday in our family and went a little overboard on the buffets (let’s just say the management at the Paris buffet hopes I never come back). Luckily enough though, for as much as Sin City is thought of as an unhealthy city full of all you can eat buffets, bars that never close and smoke filled casino halls, Vegas does offer a lot of health benefits.

One of the biggest health benefits is the enormity of the hotels. There are two reason’s I make this statement and both have to do with the amount of walking that goes on in the city.

The obvious one is that the casinos have strategically placed the elevators to the rooms and shops on the far side of the casino floor. They do this, obviously, to make you stop and throw a dollar or two into the slots, or to put a Benjamin Franklin on the roll of the dice. But there are benefits of this placement to you as well.

Because the hotel elevators and shops are not directly next to the door, you are forced to walk further in order to get to them. Likewise, on your way out, you must walk equally as far to get out of the hotel. The fact that these resources are not close forces you to walk further, thus getting more exercise.

If you are staying in the hotel, odds are that your room is not next to the elevator once you get off, which means more walking. So if you combine the walk to the elevators with the walk to your room, you are burning off a lot of calories.

The second benefit of the size of hotels is that you are probably not going to spend your entire vacation in a single hotel. If you are on the strip you will probably want to go sight-seeing. Maybe you want to see the shark tank at Mandalay Bay or the art exhibit at the Bellagio, or maybe you are going to catch a show at the Venetian. Whatever your reasoning, you will probably be heading outside.

Depending on which hotel you start from, and what your destination is, there is a good chance you may be taking a stroll on the strip to get from place to place. The fact that these hotels are enormous also gives you health benefits. Even if you are going next door, say from Caesar’s Palace its neighbor to the North, The Mirage, you are probably going to walk 1/2 mile each way. Add in the return trip and all the walking while inside the casino and you are well over 1 mile.

Now… how many calories can you actually burn from all this walking?

Burned calories are based on two factors: your weight and your pace. The heavier you are and the faster your pace, the more calories you will burn while walking. Below is a chart with averages, based on a pace of 3 mph.

· 130 to 140 pounds – 3.5 calories burned per minute

· 145 to 155 pounds – 4.0 calories burned per minute

· 160 to 170 pounds – 4.5 calories burned per minute

· 175 to 185 pounds – 5.0 calories burned per minute

· 190 to 200 pounds – 5.5 calories burned per minute

If you don’t fall within this chart you can add about .5 calories/minute for roughly every 10 pounds more or less than the chart above.

So, if you walk from Caesar’s Palace to the Mirage and back, while stopping into the Forum Shops to see what the latest sales are, a 170 person can expect to burn in the neighbor hood of 270 calories. Plus, if you bet all your money on red, and it hits, you will burn more calories jumping.

So, while Vegas has a reputation for overindulgence, there are some built in benefits to taking a trip to the city. Just keep in mind, as you should wherever you are, that your best bet, health-wise, is to always choose the heal-toe express over driving or taking the bus. You may not know it, but shuffling along does your body good.

Keep sporting!

Make Your Own Traditional Jamaican Sweet Potato Pudding

Jamaicans love their puddings. Some Jamaican puddings such as bread and butter pudding were inspired by a colonial past, while others were a result of the availability of ingredients. Puddings in Jamaica are not the same as the gelatin-based puddings as eaten in other countries. Jamaican puddings are much heartier like a bread pudding consistency and a knife is best in slicing the pudding. Jamaica has different types of puddings and one of the most popular puddings in Jamaica is the sweet potato pudding. Sweet potato in Jamaica is often a different variety than the sweet potato (or yam) used in US dishes. Additionally, the term yam sometimes used to refer to sweet potato in the US, is a starchy staple produce in Jamaica and is available in different varieties such as yellow yam and soft yam. In some Jamaican households, cooks add grated yellow yam to the pudding mixture for added texture as well as for a binding agent.

Traditionally, Jamaican home cooks grated sweet potato to make their puddings. Additionally, coconut milk, which was a main ingredient in the pudding, also meant grating the dried coconut and extracting the milk, through a series of adding water and squeezing out the resulting coconut milk. Many Jamaicans remember the reference to sweet potato pudding as ‘hell a top, hell a bottom, hallelujah inna di middle.’ By tradition, the pudding was baked over a coal stove by placing a type of dutch oven (know as dutchie in Jamaica) with a flat cover over a grill on the coal filled stove. The top of the cover of the dutch pot was normally filled with hot coals, hence the pudding baked from both top and bottom simultaneously. However, with the advent of ovens, food processors, blenders and canned coconut milk, home cooks now have a much easier job in making their puddings.

In Jamaica, sweet potato pudding is on many restaurant dessert menus or is easily available at local bakeries at eateries. Overseas, it might not be as easy to buy a slice of sweet potato pudding, but it is quite easy to follow a recipe and make a classic Jamaican pudding. Many cities in the US, UK and Canada have Jamaican or West Indian grocery stores that stock the ingredients needed to make a traditional Jamaican pudding. So, if you feel the hankering to try a taste of Jamaica, go out, get the ingredients, and begin baking.

Jamaican Sweet Potato Pudding

1 1/2 pounds grated sweet potato

½ lb grated yellow yam (omit yam if not available and use ½ lb more sweet potato)

1 1/4 cup brown sugar (or use equal amount of Splenda/Stevia)

1/2 cup all purpose flour

1/4 cup cornmeal (you can omit the cornmeal and add 1/4 cup more flour)

4 cups canned coconut milk (reconstitute coconut milk powder if needed)

2 cup raisins

2 teaspoons grated nutmeg

2 teaspoon mixed spice

3 teaspoons vanilla

1 teaspoon salt (adjust as needed)

Mexican Cookware – Equipment Used in Mexican Cooking

Mexican cooking at home doesn’t have to an impossible task to accomplish. Try using the following kitchen equipment for the next in-home Mexican meal.

Comal: Basically, a comal is a cast iron griddle and is used without oil. It’s flat with a handle and is used for making tortillas and roasting foods that require no oil. Mexican comals also can be made of clay.

Molcajete and Tejolote: Mortar and Pestle, these are used for crushing and grinding herbs, spices and seeds. The bowl and grinder are made from porous volcanic rock and are still used today. You can also make traditional Mexican salsa in the Molcajete and Tejolote.

Prensa (Tortilla Press): A tortilla press can be metal or wood, with two hinged plates and a handle. A tortilla press is used to flatten the dough for making tortillas.

Tamale Steamer: Tamale Steamers can be purchased at any Mexican cuisine store or market or you can make one yourself. Using a large enough stock pot to fit a metal colander lined with foil in the bottom, pour about an inch of water in the pot. The foil keeps the tamales from touching the water. Place the tamales in the colander and cover with a clean kitchen towel. Cover the pot tightly with a lid.

Cazuela: a clay pot or bowl still used in Mexico today for boiling corn, stews and beans. Though many Mexican households now use Olla Express (Pressure Cooker) to make beans, they still place the beans in a cazuela for the final few minutes of cooking to give beans that authentic Mexican flavor.

Metate y Mano (Hand Grinder): This tool looks like a short 3 legged table with a concave surface about the size of a platter. A large cylinder of stone is used for grinding spices, herbs and seeds. You can also find larger versions made for sitting at. Metate y Mano is made from stone or lava rock and is still used today in many Mexican households.

Molinillo (Wood Whisk or Stirrer): This ancient tool is used to create foam in hot chocolate. Place between your hands and rotate the whisk back and forth briskly. Molinillos can be plain or highly decorated.

Olla: A bean pot made of clay. Most Olla’s are beautifully decorated and glazed. Cooking beans in an olla gives beans a far superior taste than cooking them in metal pans or even a slow cooker. Olla’s look beautiful sitting on the counter when not in use and make a great gift. Fill the pot with bags of beans and seasoning and give to your friends or relatives who love authentic Mexican cooking.

Most of the cookware mentioned above can be purchased online, in a specialty Mexican market or store.

How to Tell Authentic Coach Handbags From Fake Coach Purses

Online shopping has brought great opportunities to us to be able to buy the items we want and need at a great prices. It is too bad that with all good things people find a way to take advantage of others.

Selling Coach products online is a huge business. If you are looking to purchase a Coach product online, you need to do your homework before making your purchase. You need to be sure the money you are paying is for an authentic Coach purse not a fake coach purse.

Here are some tips to help you buy the real deal.

Tip #1: C Pattern Design

If your purse is the ‘c’ or ‘cc’ style stitching you will be able to use this pattern to inspect for authenticity. Look at the purse to check for the following.

a. The c pattern should go straight up and down.

b. The pattern will be centered on the front and back panel of the purse.

c. The seam will go straight through ‘c’ or ‘cc’ pattern not cutting off letters.

d. Look at a few photos online of the c pattern on the style of purse you are looking to purchase.

There should be a consistency with the pattern.

Tip #2: Leather Label with Serial Number

There is a serial number that exists in the majority of the real Coach purses that begins with ‘No’ that is located on the inside sewn in leather label. On some of the smaller authentic purse sizes there is not a leather tag. These styles would include the clutch, swingback, and the mini. I have also seen fakes that have the sewn in label starting with a No followed by a serial number. However, when you compare the fake label to the real one the quality of leather and imprinting is obvious which is real. The words on the label should also be in all-caps.

Tip #3: Know the Real Deal

I would suggest you visit retailers of real Coach stores to begin to teach yourself what an authentic Coach purse looks and feels like. Pay attention to the look and feel of the leather, lining, zipper, stitching and leather tag. As you become more familiar with the real Coach handbags, you will recognize a fake easier.

Tip #4: Poor Craftsmanship – Leather is Pieced Together

View the stitching on the purse. Stitches that are different in width or have threads coming out of the seam are a great way to spot a knockoff. In a real Coach handbag the stitching is impeccable.

Tip #5: Coach Style

In order to be an authentic Coach handbag it must be a Coach style. This one can be a bit tricky since Coach releases new styles throughout the year. I see the Internet as a great way to help you determine if the style you are looking at is a real style. Ask your question in a forum or blog and learn from others.

Tip #6: Zipper

Inspect the zipper of the purse. On a poor Coach knockoff, you can simply tell the difference by a looking at the zipper. A Coach purse will use a zipper with the engraving ‘YKK.’ Look for the engraving. If you are still not sure, zip the purse a few times to see how smoothly the purse zips.

Tip #7: C not G

I think this one should go without saying but it bears to mention since it must be working on some people. The Coach brand starts with a ‘c’ not a ‘g.’ It is unbelievably silly to me but some Coach knockoffs have the stitching of a ‘g’ or ‘gg’ not a ‘c’ or ‘cc.’

Tip #8: Packaging

I have seen some auctions with pictures of purses with plastic wrapped handles. To my knowledge this would also be a sign of a fake Coach purse.

Tip #9: Read the About Us Section or Seller Info

Retail websites that just do not say which they are selling are normally selling fakes. Read about the retailer. Do a Google search on the retailer to see if people are happy with the service.

If you are looking to buy on ebay, purchase from someone who has a great track record for selling Coach purses. eBay does not permit sellers to sell fakes and monitors this problem, but sellers can still slip through the cracks.

Do your homework so you can enjoy an authentic Coach purse at a great price. Happy shopping!

Swiss Ball Training for Jiu-Jitsu

If you haven’t spent any time training with a stability ball, then you’re missing out on an effective and fun way to increase core strength, balance, and body awareness. There are more than enough exercises on the ball that are sports specific in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

The unstable surface of the balance ball puts a greater amount of stress on the core muscles and makes them work harder to stay balanced. Essentially you’re correcting muscle imbalances by using different muscles of the mid-section (abdominal, stability, and back) in a diverse way.

The stability ball is nothing more than an anti-burst plastic ball that expands when you fill it with air. To reach the correct density: less air is not as challenging while more air makes it harder to balance on. Choose a ball that accommodates your height. How do you know if it is the right size? Use the chart or sit on the ball with both feet on the floor. In this position, your hips and knees should form a 90-degree angle.

55 cm = 4’11” – 5’4″

65 cm = 5’5″ – 5’11”

75 cm = 6’0″ – 6′ 7″

The stability ball provides many more benefits besides an awesome core workout; it will help to strengthen weak muscles and in turn will give a break to the overused ones while opening up the range of motion in the knees and hips. It is a great way to train movement and pressure if you don’t have a drill partner.

This exercise performed on the work out ball will build a strong abdomen and back. Start with feet on floor and your elbows on the ball to begin the position. Keep your back straight and focus on contracting the stomach muscles. Work your way up to holding the position for one minute.

Doing a crunch on the stability ball takes the legs out of the equation and makes the abdominal muscles do most of the work. Position the ball under the lower back and cross your arms over the chest. Curl up and contract your abs. lower back down to the start position and repeat for the desired repetitions.

Ball walk

Develop core strength and balance while learning how to use the balance ball. Sit on the ball and slowly walk both feet forward as your back slides down onto the ball. Once your head and shoulders are supported on the ball, walk all the way back until you’re in the seated position.

Push ups

There are two ways to perform this exercise, with hands on the floor or you can make it harder by placing your hands on the ball for support. As with the standard push up, you will be raising and lowering your upper body with a push motion. What makes this different, the balance ball turns it into a whole body workout because of the instability of the surface.

The stability ball is an effective, fun, and inexpensive way to get a good workout. The functionality of this piece of exercise equipment makes it useable by individuals of any fitness level. Incorporate the balance ball into your workouts to take advantage of one of the best ways to strengthen the core muscles and increase stability.

The 7-Point Trading Plan Template

One of the first things beginning traders are told to do is to create a trading plan that will spell out a trading strategy and a list of rules to follow in implementing that strategy. The only problem with that advice is that beginning traders don’t really have any trading experience, and thus are lost when attempting to craft a trading plan for their trading.

Another problem with trading plans is that beginners are instructed to treat their plans as gospel and are told not to deviate from them. This prevents traders from adapting their strategies and rules to improve their performance, an essential step in every trader’s learning curve.

Instead of a rigid document to be created early on in your trading career and never to be changed, you should instead view your trading plan as a living and breathing set of guidelines, capable of being modified as you gain trading experience. This article will teach you how to create a trading plan that will guide your trading efforts without stunting your progress.

The 7-Point Trading Plan Template

In creating your trading plan, here are the items you should include:

1. Markets – What markets will you focus on? Be as specific as possible – if you’re trading stocks, what types of stocks will you concentrate on?

2. Timeframe – How long will you hold your positions for? Will you be a day trader focusing on trades lasting a few minutes, or a swing trader holding trades for a few days?

3. Time Period – What times of the day will you trade? You may have outside responsibilities that prevent you from trading an entire trading day. Pick which times of the day best suit your style.

4. Trading Style – How would you characterize your trading style? Perhaps you are a momentum trader focusing on trending stocks? Or maybe you specialize in a particular sector? Again, this can and will change as you gain experience and learn from your results.

5. Risk Management Rules – This is an absolutely essential and often overlooked component of your trading plan. How will you manage your risk, both on a per-trade basis and overall? You should have a “stop trading” point which is a fixed dollar amount that will force you to stop trading if you’re down by that much.

6. Mentor – Who do you follow and learn from as a teacher? Attempting to learn trading all by yourself is not only lonely, but foolish as it ignores the hard-earned wisdom of other traders. You can either repeat the mistakes of other professionals and hope to eventually learn the lessons and techniques that they’ve learned, or you can simply learn from successful traders and bypass those initial frustrations.

7. Learning Process – How will you structure your learning process as a trader? What steps will you take to ensure you’re always getting better? How will you structure your trading journal?

Trading Plan Example

To show you this trading plan template in action, I’m going to fill it out according to my own trading style:

1. I trade the U.S. stock markets, focusing on volatile stocks with sufficient volume. These stocks are typically the focus of news items and are thus “in play.”

2. I am a day trader and hold my positions anywhere from a few seconds to a few hours. I’m primarily a scalper and am looking to take advantage of short-term imbalances between supply and demand. I will stay in a trade as long as I can identify a supply/demand imbalance.

3. I trade throughout the trading day, although I focus most of my activity at the open and close of the trading day.

4. While I have multiple styles, I would characterize myself primarily as a momentum trader that relies on tape reading to identify favorable risk/reward situations to enter in the direction of a trend.

5. I’m fanatical about managing my risk, both on a per-trade basis and overall. Every trade I enter has a predefined stop-loss and I have a daily stop-loss to stop trading when I’m having a rough day.

6. I’ve had a variety of mentors throughout my career, and now I talk with a select group of traders at my firm with similar trading styles.

7. I review every single trade I make, always looking for ways in which I can improve. This may be as simple as cutting down my risk when trading certain stocks or altering my execution patterns.

Your trading plan can be as simple as that, just a series of statements answering those 7 questions. You also shouldn’t spend too much time creating your trading plan as it will frequently change throughout your career.

Your trading plan will crystallize exactly what you’re trying to accomplish, but don’t view it as set in stone. Rather, your plan will grow and change as you gain experience and develop your own trading style.

Your trading plan also doesn’t need to be a complicated document spanning multiple pages. You simply need to define what markets you’re going to trade, how you’re going to trade them (how long you’ll hold positions, what times of day you’re going to trade, and your trading style), how you’re going to manage your risk, and how you’re going to continue developing as a trader. By clarifying and explicitly stating those 7 key points, your trading plan will serve and support you in your trading career.
