Green Computing – How You Can Make a Difference

What is Green Computing?

Global warming and environmental change have become big issues with governments, corporations and your average Joe alike all seeking out new ways to green up their daily activities. Computers certainly make up a large part of many peoples lives and traditionally are extremely damaging to the environment, which begs the question: What is Green Computing?

Green Computing is the study and practice of minimising the environmental impact of computers through efficient: manufacturing, use, and disposal.

Problems of Electronic Waste

Electronic waste is an increasing problem globally due to the quick obsolescence of electronics, which make up a staggering 70% of all hazardous waste. Computer waste is high in many toxic materials such as heavy metals and flame-retardant plastics, which easily leach into ground water and bio-accumulate. In addition, chip manufacturing uses some of the deadliest gases and chemicals known to man and requires huge amounts of resources.

In an average year 24 million computers in the United States become obsolete. Only about 14% (or 3.3 million) of these will be recycled or donated. The rest – more than 20 million computers in the U.S. — will be dumped, incinerated, shipped as waste exports or put into temporary storage to be dealt with later. We never stop to consider what happens when our laptop dies and we toss it. The reality is that it either rots in a landfill or children in developing countries end up wrestling its components apart by hand, melting toxic bits to recover traces of valuable metals like gold.

Wasting Electricity

The manufacturing of a computer consumes 1818 kw/h of electricity before it even gets turned on and when running, a typical computer uses 120 watts. Research shows that most PCs are left idle all day, and many of them are left on continuously. Every time we leave computers on we waste electricity without considering where that electricity comes from. The majority of the world’s electricity is generated by burning fossil fuels which emit pollutants such as sulphur, and carbon dioxide into the air. These emissions can cause respiratory disease, smog, acid rain and global climate change.

The Future of Green Computing

A Canadian company, Userful Corporation, have come up with a solution that turns 1 computer into 10 – DiscoverStation. Quickly becoming the standard for green computing worldwide, DiscoverStation leverages the unused computing power of modern PCs to create an environmentally efficient alternative to traditional desktop computing. Multiple users can work on a single computer by simply attaching up to 10 monitors, mice and keyboards. This makes it possible to reduce CO2 emissions by up to 15 tons per year per system and reduce electronic waste by up to 80%. Userful has recently stated that in the last year their software has saved over 13,250 tons of CO2 emissions, the equivalent of taking 2,300 cars off the road. (More info at: http://userful.com/green-pcs )

The European Union

The European Union is tackling the problem twofold. Companies are now required to produce computers free of the worst toxic materials and are responsible for taking back their old products. Faced with disassembling parts and cycling them back into the fabrication process, companies are making more careful decisions about how those parts are assembled in the first place. In 2002 NEC came out with the first computer to use lead-free solder, a fully recyclable plastic case, and which contained no toxic flame-retardants. Since then many computer companies worldwide have started selling lead-free PCs and it is becoming common practice for companies to offer their customers free recycling of their old computers.

Ways To Go Green

Here are some suggestions that will help you reduce your computer energy:>

  • Don’t use screen savers. They waste energy, not save it.
  • Buy computers & monitors labelled “energy star” which can be programmed to automatically “power-down” or “sleep” when not in use.
  • If you are using more than 1 PC, Userful’s 10 to 1 advantage can save electricity and your wallet.
  • Turn your computer and peripherals off when not in use. This will not harm the equipment.
  • Use flat panel monitors, which use about half of the electricity of a cathode-ray tube (CRT) display.
  • Buy ink jet printers, not laser printers. Ink jet printers use 80 to 90 percent less energy than laser printers and print quality can be excellent.

If all of us did this every day, we could make a small difference. We only have one earth; let’s treat it right.

How to Prepare Yourself For Learning to Kitesurf

How to Learn to Kitesurf

Kitesurfing looks amazingly difficult, however it is amazingly easy. Yes it helps to surf, and yes it helps to have windsurfed or sailed, but these are not requirements or essentials to learning the sport. Now that we have this in mind, we need to start from a clean slate and remove all our pre-conceived ideas of kitesurfing, because this will only hinder learning to kite.

Step 1

Get practise with fly a kite, even a 1 metre stunt kite will do. Learn how it flys in the sky and feels. Getting the hang of this is essentially to understanding how a kite moves. As you have a bar instead of a wheel to manipulate movement and turn the kite, it takes a little getting used to. You will also notice the different power the kite harnesses when it is in different positions.

Practise flying the kite above your head, to your left, right and directly in front of you. Feel how the kite increases its pull when you speed up the turns. Now try spinning the kite, doing figure or eights and complete squares. All the above practises will be outlined in the manual of the kite.

Step 2

Get practising on your core stability. Whether this is in the gym or in the park, the more core stability you have the easier you will find it to learn.

You can do the plank in your own living room, try balancing on a fit ball, or simply standing on one foot.

Step 3

Get used to being pulled sideways. Whether you buy a skateboard, go wakeboarding or run up and down the corridor sideways, you will have to be used to moving left and right and not forwards and backwards. This common and natural instinct to go forwards in order to keep balance is one of the biggest walls to stopping people doing the difficult task of standing on a board.

Step 4

Get ready to be thrown about. Go to a swimming people and practise throwing yourself in the pool. Throw yourself backwards, upside down and every way you can imagine. Practise doing additional task at the same time like catching something or heading a football or doing a pose as you jump in. Whilst learning to kitesurf you will get thrown about a bit, and if you are not used to this you may be scared off too early.

Step 4

Actually book your lessons and do it. It can take ages to get going if you wait for the perfect time. Many people talk about it for a long time and do a lesson every month. You will never learn to master the sport if this is your attitude. Get stuck in and don’t give up before at least 10 lessons. If you remain relaxed and open to learning you will get the hang of it sooner or later. Once you get past the very basics, it is very easy to progress. So stay committed. Remember, the most committed wins!

My Breakthrough Game Plan For Making Real Money Online

Are you looking for a breakthrough in your life?

‘Earning real money online’ is one of the most popular search terms on the internet. Most people are looking for an alternative to what they are doing. Some are looking for an opportunity to complement their present occupation. Others are looking to replace their income. Still there are others who are just sick and tired of their mediocre lifestyle and want to change their future in a big way.

Well guess what, it can be done!

There is a solution to your problems, if you are willing to make the change.

What you need to understand is that if you continue to do things as usual, you will end up getting the same results. Nothing happens UNTIL you make a decision to change. All it takes is a DECISION.

If you are someone who is really, really, really looking for a breakthrough in your life and business then read on as this will make a lot of sense to you.

Contrary to what many of the so-called internet gurus is telling you, earning real money online entails much more than putting up a blog, website, or driving traffic to an affiliate offer. Many of the people who are trying to get you into their programs are just interested in taking your money and run. Many of them don’t have a clue how to make real money online. They might know a bit of theory but not the practical stuff.

So listen up, if you are looking to transform your life in a big way… if you are just sick and tired of where you are in life right now… if you are hungry for success… then here is my breakthrough game plan for you:

“A Single Idea Can Make You A Million Dollars!” Elon Musk

1. DECIDE what you want – and DECIDE what you are willing to give in return to get it. Set realistic expectations on what you and your family are willing to sacrifice to reach your ultimate goal. What you must understand is that you will have to make some sacrifices. Nothing worthwhile in life comes easy, there is a price to pay.

2. GET A MENTOR (coach)! Find someone who is where you want to be, or going where you want to go. Why re-invent the wheel? Find someone who has travelled that road before. Find someone who you resonate with and follow their lead. Just put on ‘blinders’ and stay focus! Focus on your INCOME PRODUCING ACTIVITIES daily. Remember, this can be a difficult journey sometimes so having someone to keep you on track will help.

3. REMOVE TOXICITY FROM YOUR LIFE!” It Starts With YOU! It’s a paradigm shift! Pour enough positivity in the funnel and drown the negativity! “CHANGE THE INPUT! Let me be honest with you here, sometimes you have to take drastic measures in order to achieve your goals in life… and making real money online is no exception.

4. Make a commitment to give away 10% of whatever you earn. There are certain laws that govern the universe; if you follow them things will fall into place, if you don’t you will be missing out. The law of sowing and reaping states that you should ‘give to get.’ So if you want more money, give more money. If you need more time, give more time. Trust me, it works.

5. Do whatever is required to get the job down! Sometimes doing your best is NOT enough. Sometimes you have to stretch yourself, even when its uncomfortable. Sometimes you have to dig deep down into your core to do what needs to be done. This is where your ‘why’ comes into play.

6. Set yourself a clear goal (write it down) and trust the process. Be flexible in your approach. Sometimes you have to change the activities. Sometimes you have to make adjustments to your original plans. Don’t worry about the results. Focus on the process, the results will come.

7. Keep it simple. Pick the lowest hanging fruit first (Other People’s List). Take care of your subscribers first. Build lasting relationships. If you want people to follow you then you have to earn their trust.

8. Develop a marketer’s eye and a marketer’s ear. This is critical to your success. It is getting more difficult to make a breakthrough and earn real money online, so you have to be unique in your marketing efforts. You have to stand out from among the pack.

CONCLUSION:

I don’t know where you are on your journey right now but I’m going to implore you to give yourself a chance to succeed. You may have tried a whole bunch of programs and opportunities before. You may have spent some money and have nothing to show for it. But I just want you to know that this could all change in an instant. Make a decision – set your mind for success – and take massive action!

It all starts with YOU!

“Fill your mind with seeds of greatness. Surround yourself with people who want to see you prosper. Act like you are a winner and are winning your way to victory. That is the way to start your day to find success.” ~ Vincent Rolland

Hope this helps!

Using the Switchword Pair CRYSTAL-HORSE to Increase Self-Confidence and Self-Worth

Switchwords are powerful poignant words used to connect directly to the subconscious mind, giving it direction for drawing the essence of the Switchword to you. The more a Switchword is repeated, the more it affects your energy. The more it affects your energy, the more you draw the experience, condition or response the Switchword represents to you.

CRYSTAL-HORSE – increases self-confidence and self-worth

When you need a boost in self-confidence or self-worth, try chanting CRYSTAL-HORSE.

CRYSTAL helps to clarify the situation, connect to Universal Knowledge; HORSE connects you to your strengths, your power. Together this can be a very empowering Switchword combination.

——————————–

CRYSTAL-HORSE can be added as a prefix to other Switchwords to enhance your ability to connect with the essence of those Switchwords.

——————————–

  • CRYSTAL-HORSE-ACT – increase self-confidence in speech. Need to lead a discussion? Have a meeting with a superior at work? When you wish to present yourself well to others, chant a few times before (or just as you are) entering the situation.
  • CRYSTAL-HORSE-CHUCKLE – increase self-confidence and turn on personality. Want to be the life of the party? Want people to gravitate to you? Want to make friends? When you wish to turn on the charisma and increase your popularity in a group, chan as you are about to enter a situation with other people.
  • CRYSTAL-HORSE-LISTEN – increase self-confidence and self-worth by listening to (and following) Inner Guidance. Feel disconnected from yourself, your world? Having difficulty finding your way? Decisions and choices seem impossible? Always second-guessing yourself? Chant for 2-3 minutes first thing in the morning, before getting out of bed, and allow yourself to connect. Then through the day, as you find yourself wavering, not knowing, chant a few times and connect to your Inner Guidance, self-confidence and self-worth.

——————————–

CRYSTAL-HORSE can be used as a suffix to other Switchwords to be enhanced by them.

——————————–

  • VIBRANT-CRYSTAL-HORSE – be a strong presence with increased self-confidence and self-worth. Want to stand out in a crowd, and feel confident while doing so? Want to stand up for yourself? Want to bring power and confidence to a situation? Chant to come into your power, stand up for yourself and stand out in a crowd.
  • WHIMSICAL-CRYSTAL-HORSE – be innovative with confidence. Looking to bring new things into your life? Want to come up with unique ideas in your work? Want to create an event to remember? Chant to bring you to a creative space and give you the confidence to follow through on it.
  • YES!-CRYSTAL-HORSE – be enthusiastic, energized and full of self-confidence. Need a shot of enthusiasm? Life been a bit too boring lately? Chant to help bring enthusiasm back and energize yourself and bring yourself to a space of self-confidence.
  • ELATE-CRYSTAL-HORSE – turn setbacks into uplifts, build self-confidence and self-worth. Been having a lot of setbacks affecting your self-confidence? Feel like everything is going wrong? Life seem to be pushing you around? Chant to find a way to turn those setbacks into uplifts and to help restore your self-confidence.

Take these for a spin. See how they work for you. Let us know your experiences.

Spanking a Child Affects Brain Development

Recent research on human brain development has shown that spanking and other corporal punishment will have a significant adverse affect on the development of a child’s brain and brain function. Whenever a child experiences fear and stress, especially when combined with high emotional confusion or emotional separation from a parent or other caregiver, that child becomes biologically and neuro-chemically alarmed and on high alert.

The human brain consists of four distinct layers, the brain stem, mid-brain, limbic system, and the cortex. The brain stem is responsible for the most primitive functions of the body like breathing, body temperature regulation, and blood pressure. The midbrain, also called diencephalon, is a bit more complex, but still mostly reflexive, and is where a person operates when he or she is in a state of alarm. This is the instinctive “fight or flight” area of the brain and is a non-thinking and non-feeling place. The limbic system is the area responsible for experiencing and expressing emotions. The cortex, especially the pre-frontal cortex, is responsible for thinking, problem-solving, showing judgement and a conscience.

Two other key parts of the brain are the hippocampus, which stores memories, and the amygdala, which is part of the limbic system and determines which part of the brain is activated in a given situation. The hippocampus and amygdala work together to determine which parts of the brain are in charge. At any given moment, one of the three upper levels (midbrain, limbic system or cortex) is in charge based on the decisions of the amygdala and hippocampus.

The brain produces powerful chemicals called hormones. Normal development sees the brain release healthy doses of hormones to help a child learn resilience. During times of fear, however, stress hormones can flood the brain, causing anxiety and panic in the child, meaning he or she is less capable of thinking. During an unhealthy “hormone dump,” a child will become hypersensitive and overly-reactive until the hormones dissipate, which may take an hour or as long as a day. Because a child’s brain is constantly being wired, high states of alarm can “over-wire” a child’s midbrain, making it denser and more dominant than it should be.

During these episodes of fear, the hippocampus stores memories for the purpose of protecting and preparing the child for future incidences. For the rest of the child’s life, the memories stored in the hippocampus can trigger the same responses that activates the reflexive midbrain.

Whenever a child is highly fearful or alarmed because a parent or other caregiver is inflicting physical pain (like spanking) combined with unhealthy and out of control emotion, his or her brain development is being adversely impacted. A child with a brain that has been developed in healthy ways can function relatively smoothly, allowing the child calmness to think, emotionally connect, pay attention and grow intellectually.

Withholding discipline is not the answer. Finding healthy ways of effective discipline (limit setting, healthy consequences, making amends, etc.) will help develop a child’s brain in healthy fashion.

Stalking Behavior – How To Spot A Stalker!

It is not always easy to recognize a stalker as they can have many faces and profiles. They can appear to be the most charming person in the world while covering very well an insecure and obsessive personality.

Many victims blame themselves (me included) for not seeing past the facade but they should know that these guys can be masters at the game of deception.

Smarter Than You Think!

What often makes them so hard to catch is the fact that they are usually very intelligent. Instead of using this wealth of brainpower for good in the world they choose to harness it to conjure up clever ways to make their victim squirm. They learn very quickly how to keep the law at a distance so they can keep pursuing the object of their desire. To say they are CALCULATED is an understatement. They are driven, determined and relentless in their insatiable need to claim what they believe to be their own.

From the moment they focus their attention on you (their victim) every fiber in their being works tirelessly to bring you to your knees and surrender your life to them.

Spotting The Serial Stalker

The most common stalker is some one you know and may even have had a relationship with. (Simple obsessional) They can be very dangerous as they suffer from:

– Low self-esteem

– Insecurities

– Intense Jealousy

– Narcissism

– Infatuation

They can cry one minute then stamp their feet with rage the next. They are highly volatile and capable of hurting you their victim if they feel you have offended them in any way. When you are saying NO to them they think you are saying yes because in their deluded mind they believe you love them too. Any contact with them is interpreted as interest, which makes it very hard for the victim of the Romeo style stalker.

Rejection Fallout!

Once they realize they are being REJECTED they can be like a giant wave crashing down on your life with no regard for the damage they cause. During this stalker reign of terror it is not unusual for a victim to retreat within the 4 walls of their home and curl up into a little ball hoping that the stalker will take pity on them and back off.

Once a stalker believes he has you cornered he can unleash every dirty trick in the book to make you believe there is no way out.

Classic stalking behavior has one common denominator. To make you feel HELPLESS!

Stalker Tsunami

If you can say yes to the following signs of stalking behavior you will need to contact the police as soon as possible.

1. Constant phone calls, emails and texts even though you have made it clear you want nothing more to do with them.

2. Persistent calls and unannounced visits to your work place.

3. They send you gifts such as flowers and sometimes-bizarre items that can be distressing. If they are trying to send you a message they may send you hair from your pet dog as a warning. Harming a person’s pet is very common and cowardly.

4. Follow you by car or on foot. A stalker finds it hard to let their victim out of their sight but it is also a way to intimidate you.

5. Direct threats.

6. Destruction of property. A victim’s car seems to be a favorite. (Slashing the tyres and keying the paint work).

7. Manipulative behavior where the stalker spreads gossip about you in a bid to defame your character and reputation.

8. Making you their object (objectification) so that when they are angry they can justify their cruel actions and not be forced to feel any empathy or compassion for you the victim.

In my time on this earth I have encountered all of the above and I have to tell you things were very tough for me during my own personal stalker battle.

They say it takes all sorts to make a world but I am sure any person who has or is being stalked will agree we could do without this sort in our world.

The U.S has stalking laws which is good new for victims but many countries still don’t recognize stalking which makes it too easy for these criminals to hurt people. If your stalker is an EX partner then the police in many parts still see it a domestic abuse situation and not enough gets done.

Even though I have stood as tall as I can against a long-term stalker I look forward to the day when countries follow the lead of America and take stalking a lot more seriously.

Stick Together

As women the best thing we can do is offer each other support. There is safety in numbers and if we keep communicating with each other we never have to feel alone in our own stalking situation. My motto is STAY STRONG and never let the bad guys win.

Dentures & False Teeth History (Part-1)

In short, denture problems boil down to this: Do you want to smile, look and feel as attractive as possible – or not?

During the long and delicate history of artificial teeth, ancient people as well as people of today would rather not talk about: false teeth, dentures, toothaches or even “going to the dentist.” Even so, it is interesting to note that mankind has had to live with all kinds of “hidden” dental problems for thousands of years, so we might as well talk about, get out in the open and face the problems we all have, problems that are caused by our teeth.

We are all aware of how much more attractive and socially acceptable we are when we simply – smile. But, we also have to face the fact that our beautiful smiles are not “free.” Just as back in ancient days, those most welcome smiles can be achieved in only one way: by paying the cost in both mental anguish and hard earned money for regular appointments to see the dentist. It has always been that way for thousands of years.

Artificial teeth have been discovered in the graves of people who lived in ancient Etruria, The skeleton of Swedish King Gustavus Vasa, who died in 1560, had artificial teeth (dentures) in his well-preserved skull. Out of thirty-two skulls that were dug up from the Bonze age there were seven skulls that still contained sets of artificial teeth. About two thousand years ago a Roman doctor wrote in his medical book that men should wash their mouths on rising to prevent tooth decay. According to the writings of Thomas Berdmore, the dentist of King George III, tooth tartar build-up, as much as one-half inch thick, was, at that time, a major cause of tooth decay.

Many people in medieval times were troubled with constant toothaches. In fact, the ancient Greeks were said to be the first to have used a mouthwash. They made it of castoreum and pepper. It is believed the Greeks were the first to make pliers for pulling teeth. Aristotle who lived from 384 to 322 B.C. wrote that tooth extraction could be started with pliers but should be cautiously finished by hand. Three hundred years later, Celsus agreed with him that the first step in tooth extraction was to detach the gum all around the bad tooth.

The Greeks and Phoenicians were the first to devise methods of using gold wire to bind loose teeth to nearby good teeth. Etruscans tombs, as early as 700 B.C. have revealed attempts to solder wide bands of gold over natural teeth to be held there with pins through the natural teeth. Later, the Romans, learned many dental procedures about how to make partial sets of teeth from the Etruscans, (then a part of the Roman Empire).

The Romans had great awareness and concern regarding dental importance, problems and care. In their Law of the Twelve Tables they had penalties for any form of violence causing damage to the teeth. Example: ‘Whoever shall cause the tooth of a free man to be knocked out shall pay a fine of three hundred as, that of a slave one hundred and fifty.’

After the collapse of the Roman Empire, a Persian physician, Rhazes (850-923) was the first to suggest filling cavities with alum and mastic. Later, Abulcasis (1050-1122) in Arabia advised the use of dental scrapers to remove tartar build up. In fact, he taught the local “tooth barbers” (now called dentists) ways to bind loose teeth to healthy teeth with gold wire. He suggested filling gaps left by tooth removal with bone substitutes that were then held in place with gold wire.

In 1654 Englishman Peter Lowe explained that artificial teeth were being made of ivory and whalebone and then fastened in place with wire. But, until the end of the 17th century there was little or no progress in methods of treating dental problems and the practice of wearing artificial teeth was very rare. In fact, when Queen Elizabeth lost her front teeth she would, prior to appearing in public, stuff her mouth with rolls of cloth (called lip padding) to puff out her cheeks and she held a fan in front of her face when smiling, laughing and talking. We are told the same kind of padding was used by George Washington 200 years later while he was having his portrait painted.

Even the best barber-surgeons, the “tooth-drawers” of that time considered their primary task to be that of cleaning with a variety of scrapers and then washing or rinsing with a solution of nitric acid to whiten the teeth. Much damage was done after repeated applications of these acid cleaners.

At about this time, the 1600s, there was also the practice of transplantation, which involved the removal of rotten teeth and then filling their sockets with sound teeth drawn from another person. Back then; poor people often sold their healthy teeth to barber-surgeons to buy food for their hungry families. By the end of the 17th century the barber-surgeons realized more money could be made when they specialized in making false teeth for the rich.

Artificial teeth were usually made of hippopotamus or walrus ivory. Often a single piece of ivory was carved and then fastened to existing teeth with thread made of metal or silk. Because of this method of fastening the teeth in the mouth, they were difficult to remove. So, they stayed in the mouth and became quite uncomfortable over time. Back then, lower dentures were carved in one piece and closely resembled modern lower dentures. Expensive upper false teeth made of: silver, mother of pearl, enameled copper, Egyptian pebble and Italian agate could be provided and then fastened to an ivory base.

As late as 1789 these false teeth were considered a new invention and were provided as an ornamental luxury for “show” because they were actually quite useless for eating.

How to Organize A Zumba Demo

So what is a Zumba demo? It’s a public Zumba Fitness class that anyone can watch or participate in. They are a useful way to bring your Zumba business to a new audience and are easier to organize than a flashmob or Zumbathon.

Sometimes you will have to pay for a Zumba demo – eg. By taking a stand at a trade show, but depending on where you’re based – you can often organize demos at little or no monetary cost.

A Zumba demo can be a fun addition to a larger event and if you’re open to it, people will often invite you to do a short demo at sporting events, cultural events, even weddings and in sports stores.

When I first created my Zumba business I created an action plan and I decided to do regular demos as a way to build up my business. I asked the Universe for help with this and what do you know? Two dozen demo opportunities came my way.

If you’re reading that and thinking ‘that’s all very well if you have offers of demo slots but what if you don’t ?

Start out by braintstorming possible demo locations in your city.

For example shopping malls, big events or even local events.

Contact these potential locations by email and ask if you can do a Zumba Fitness demonstration.

Be sure to bring their attention to the benefits it will have for them :

  • A Zumba demo can add extra value to an existing event
  • It gets people moving (something that town halls like)
  • It’s free for the organizers and can attract the ‘Zumba crowd’.

Follow up your email with a phone call.

See if you can bring your own sound system so that you don’t need to plug anything into a socket (which will limit the potential number of venues).

This means that the only thing you’ll need is space and a stage.

You can also ask your students if they have any ideas for potential venues.

People will amaze you with their generosity.

For example one of my students was married to a local figure who did the compering for events in our city. She invited me to do Zumba demos at several festivals, concerts and events that were taking place, including one with DJ Mams and Luis Gersao.

Practical steps to take once you have a date and venue :

1) Decide if you’re going to do it with other instructors or alone with your students.

2) Tell your students about the demo – well in advance ! You can write about it on your blog and create a Facebook event.

3) Create your playlist and make sure that you add the songs (if new) to your class playlist so that students have time to learn the choreography. Pick a song that is easy to do – so that members of the public are encouraged to take part.

4) Write a press release and send it to your local media contacts. You can also make a short video about the demo, upload it to YouTube and drum up interest that way.

5) Design a flyer or have one designed, print and distribute them. Give them to students too.

6) Ask the students who will come on the day to write their names on a list – so they are committed to coming with you. Make sure they also know where the venue is and how to find it.

7) Find someone who can film you on the big day and someone else (ideally) who can take photos of you. It will be useful to have photos and videos to share of the demo – so that it has a longer ‘shelf-life’ than just the people who saw you on the day.

8) Speak about the demo frequently in the run up to it – ensure that everyone knows about it !

9) On the day itself be sure to arrive in plenty of time. Check that your video and photo people are OK with what they’re doing and that your sound system works. Before leaving you can send out a quick press release reminding local media that you will be there. You can also send a group text message to your students to get them excited about the event.

10) Do the demo! Have fun!

11) Send a thank you message afterwards to your students and the demo venue.

Use the footage to create a video within 24 hours and upload it to YouTube and your blog. Send a press release with 2-3 photos to your local press contacts and update your Facebook page with them too.

Congratulations! You’ve organized your first Zumba demo. The rest will be easier after the first one.

How to Open a Halfway House Or a Recovery Home

To begin with, let us tell you that this article is going to smash any preconceptions out there regarding opening a halfway house in the USA. You do not need a license, permit, or any other document to open a halfway house. If any person, government official, government agency, zoning commission, etc. tells you otherwise, they are engaging in illegal and unfair practices. Know your rights (see bellow links to know your rights).

NATIONAL LAWS (ADA) ALWAYS SUPERSEDE LOCAL LAWS.

Just for a hypothetical situation; let’s say that 3 people who have depression decide to become roommates in a home. Should they be shut down and kicked out of the neighborhood because of their disability? Does that mean they have to get a license or permit to stay? Of course not. They are protected under the ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act), as well as other determinations (see links below) against such discrimination. Havingchemically dependent persons in a home is no different!!! Alcoholics and addicts have the same laws to protect them.

It is a well known fact that City Councils have tried to stop halfway houses in their neighborhoods by stating that a halfway house with alcoholics and/or addicts, in other words disabled persons, (and alcoholics and addicts qualify as disabled under the ADA), must not have roommates (as in 2 people in a room at a house), which prevents most halfway houses from opening.

If you have a house, and you want to open a halfway house, and your mortgage payment is $700.00 per month (see additional expenses at the bottom of this paragraph), there are many things to consider before accepting residents into your house. Let’s say, hypothetically, you follow licensing and zoning guidelines. With the average charge to a resident with a substance abuse problem, being around $125.00 per week, you can see that if you went with what the license division / politicians tell you, (which are illegal tactics), you would be out of business shortly. Keep in mind that in addition to your mortgage payment are things such as: utilities, phone service, water, food, furniture, cooking utensils, beds, sheets- basically everything you would need to survive, etc.

On the other hand, if you did not license your house, you could put in 2 or 3 people in a room and keep your halfway house open. In other words, helping others to get a hand up at living sober. Please read more details below…

NATIONAL LAWS (ADA) ALWAYS SUPERSEDE LOCAL LAWS.

How to open a Recovery Home, Halfway House, Sober Living Home OR starting a Half Way House/Recovery Facility*- Resources to assist you. This article includes information on the standards and requirements of opening and operating a Halfway House/Recovery Home- NOTE: Not every county in the United States approaches standards and licensure in the same way- it is best to contact your local licensure department and/or zoning division.

The first thing you should know about opening a halfway house is that you do not need a degree or special certification to open one, and that most operate without a license/permit. Also, under the ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) and The Fair Act Amendment, as well as other determinations, makes it illegal to discriminate against halfway houses and the people who own, operate, and live in them. Please see our links below for more information concerning these issues. There are a number of other important issues to cover concerning opening a halfway house that are vital to know.

You must first decide where you will operate. Once you have determined a location you have a choice in whether to license* the facility or not. There are also other permits, inspections, zoning variances, etc. to explore prior to opening up a halfway house. Please keep in mind that it is your choice whether to obtain a license, permit, and other certifications for the operation of a halfway house. If you choose to open a halfway house without a license, there are certain parameters you must operate under to make sure you are not shut down by the county/city you operate within. It is always best to check into what is required, allowed, and not allowed by contacting your local licensure agency and zoning department.

Most halfway houses that are not licensed are mandated to NOT provide on-site counseling or other wrap-around services- to avoid additional

paperwork and hassles, you could provide these services at a local church or other building. Most halfway houses that are licensed may need to

obtain a zoning variance, simply because (in the eyes of politicians) you are basically operating a business in a residential area. You may find that

because you are licensing it, the county (Zoning Commission) will limit the number of people you can have in any one room and at any one residence.

A halfway house that is going through the licensing process (and this may take months, even years to work out) will be required to have certain

structural adaptations made (water/fire sprinkler lines installed- which is very expensive) wheel chair accessible, parking and traffic issues to deal with, etc.

There are some overhead details to work out before you start taking in residents. You should know how many residents you will have in each room, what you are going to charge each resident, and what services are included in this cost or rent. You may also have to contend with residents coming in with no money, or that some residents will be late and/or short of the entire rent monies owed. It’s up to you how you handle these situations. If you have a house ready to use as a Halfway House (providing you have decided whether to license it or not) and your mortgage payment, for a 4 bedroom home, is $700.00 per month (estimate), you will also need to factor in start-up and continued costs like food costs per week, water and utility costs, household needs, (paper towels, toilet paper, dish soap, cleaning chemicals, phones, etc.), as well as monthly and yearly costs, (beds and sheets, TV, computer(s), Internet connection, towels and face clothes, shampoo, dishes and utensils, pest control services, vucuum(s), maintenance, etc.)- basically everything you would need if you were starting from scratch in a new home (considering you have nothing on hand) only this time it is for X number of people. Also include additional items, if licensed, like license and permit charges, health inspection fees, reports, paperwork and filing, accounting, etc. With the above example you can clearly see that many licensure and zoning variances would limit you to having only 4 people at your house, so meeting your overhead is not possible- you would be operating in the red every month.

Fair Housing Act

A case in point (actual court case) in which, for a period of more than 1 year, a city violated the provisions stated within the Fair Housing Amendments

Act (Title VIII of the Civil Rights Act of 1968, as amended by the Fair Housing Amendments Act of 1988, 42 U.S.C. §§3601-3619) and denied the operating of a Halfway House within a residential area.

In an effort to assist individuals, agencies, religious affiliations, etc. open recovery places and tackle the unfair and illegal tactics politicians and others are using to stop them, NICD has put together some basic, and very needed, resources to aid in the journey. Counties are using zoning

codes/variances to try and control halfway houses/sober living homes and the total census allowed within these centers. Some of the bias is a

NIMBY, (Not In My Back Yard) situation, while others include property value concerns. In any case, the reasons for discrimination and unfair tactics are not based on fact or material circumstances. These counties and individuals are in violation of the law as it relates to the ADA, (Americans With Disabilities Act), Section 36.209 section 510 which describes alcoholics/drug addicts as people with disabilities. The Federal Fair Housing Act, (see link below), 42 USC section 3604(f)(2) makes it unlawful “to discriminate against any person in the terms, conditions, or privileges of sale or rental of a dwelling, or in the provision of services or facilities in connection with such dwelling because of a handicap.” The 42 USC section 3604(f)(3)(B) provides that unlawful discrimination includes failure to make “reasonable accommodations in rules, policies, practices.

providing some resources that you can use in starting up a program.

There are numerous obstacles to overcome in trying to open up a halfway house for alcoholics and/or drug addicts. NICD will attempt to help you by

This is not a complete list of all the possible rules and/or violations that may happen, so to insure a healthy, happy, drug and alcohol free recovery

environment please do your part to use common sense when it comes to either doing or not doing something that may affect yours and others

continued stay.

Finally, staff will not take the role of cop, lawyer, or investigator. This means discharges will occur without investigation of who did what, what was said, who is, or who is not at fault.

The NIMBY Syndrome, (Not In My Back Yard), is one area that an owner of a recovery home / halfway house will have to contend with. It is usually best to address this issue up front before you open, or before construction is started. Your local Zoning Commission office should be able to provide information on the area you plan on opening the halfway house in. The census bureau can provide information on the neighborhoods make up, (economic base, average salaries made, gender average, average cost of homes in the area, and other good information to educate yourself with).

Check to see if there is a homeowners association, as that could be your best bet in getting to know your neighbors, and them getting to know you.

You should plan on going to one of their meetings before you open, but definitely after you have been armed with the information that you know will come up for discussion. Some concerns will be on whether or not you will accept violent offenders, psychiatrically unstable residents, how your home will affect property values. You can convince people that you plan on running a safe, drug free, and strict program by bringing a copy of your intake protocol and halfway house rules. Let them know how you plan on handling the situation when one of your residents comes up positive on a drug

screen. You should develop, in writing, protocols for dealing with this and other situations- there should be a plan of action that all staff and residents are to follow in any given situation. There will be some fear there, as no one wants a drug addict discharged/kicked out in their neighborhood at 1:00 A.M. on a weekend or any other time.

You need to arm yourself with the facts and also how you will handle all sorts of possible situations. If you take the lead and let your neighbors know, before they ask, what they can expect from you, you will go far in gaining their trust. Just be sure you follow through as you promised. It will pave the way to open another site, if you want to, if you have a great relationship with those that live around your halfway house.

In six major studies of communities where halfway houses were opened, no significant change in average housing prices could be found (MacNeil & Kappel, 1986, Part III.A.).

Itchy Bum – Symptoms of Different Conditions That Affect the Bum Crack Making It Painful

Not only is having an itchy bum an embarrassing problem, it can be a seriously irritating matter too, but if pain is included due to itch, red rash, swelling or other, then it’s likely to become a problem a patient cannot tolerate. Anal itch, rectal itch or rectum itch, whichever you prefer to call it, will have a reason for happening, so to treat it effectively and put a stop to you scratching your bum, the cause will need to be determined. If itching has occurred in-between the bum crack because of sweat, then it’s just a matter of a thorough clean with soap and water, but if the reason for the itch being there is a mystery to you, then speak with your GP so he/she can solve the puzzle if you like.

To do a self-diagnosis of what’s going on around the bum hole, it would help to have a mirror handy. The mirror will allow you to see if you have dry skin, rash, pimples or warts. Although checking something like this out for yourself might ease your mind, it is still wise to have a medic look. The bottom is a delicate place, so treating the skin here has to be done with care. If you rub the wrong cream or ointment in-between your buttocks you could end up having to treat a more serious problem.

Reasons for rectal pain and itching

Dry itchy skin in the crease of your bum cheeks is likely to be caused by one of several conditions:

Psoriasis

People don’t get Psoriasis around the rectum…do they? Isn’t it the scalp, ears, groin, elbows and knees where it affects? Yes, Psoriasis is linked with the above mentioned, but, also known in the buttock area too. It is a recurring rash caused by a variation in your immune system. It causes the skin to appear red and thickened with a white or silvery crust. There are several treatments and medication for treating Psoriasis, ranging from skin ointments to ultraviolet light exposure and oral medication.

Tinea Cruris (Jock itch)

Tinea is a fungus infection of the skin, commonly attacking the groin, upper thigh, and bum crack. Tinea of the groin is called “tinea cruris” or jock itch. Symptoms show as a bright red or red-brown patch of skin with a well-defined border. Itch is a primary symptom.

Hidradenitis suppurativa

If a hair follicle becomes blocked, sweat glands beneath the hair root can become congested and inflamed. If this happens, the sweat glands can weaken and pool into pockets of fluid under the skin, making the skin look like acne was once present. Scarring can occur, as well as boils coming regular. Big boils might need to be drained, otherwise a course of antibiotics will see to boils less large. “Hidradenitis suppurativa” (also known as “acne inversus”) is the name given for continual congested and inflamed sweat glands.

Scabies

No way not Scabies, tell me you’re joking. Isn’t Scabies those creepy crawlies under the skin? Yes that’s them and very contagious too. Okay maybe not really troublesome in the crack of the bum, but still troublesome mites to say the least. Scabies can cause a rash and itching outside of the groin and buttock area, even if the infestation is localized to this location.

Seborrheic dermatitis

Seborrheic dermatitis normally brings an oily red rash with some yellow crusts. If seborrheic dermatitis is detected, then it’s possible the rash has affected the scalp line, face or chest also.

Yeast infection (candidiasis)

Yeast infection is a something people usually associate with the vagina, but nowadays it’s just as much a man’s thing (male yeast infection.) Yeast infection can cause itch or a sore red rash in skin folds of the groin, and the skin around the genitals. Other locations for yeast infection are, in and around the anus and crease of the bottom.

The Psychology of Creativity

On studying the creative process and the creative individual to understand creativity

Creativity is the process of generating novel ideas and is the basic force for all inventions. The process of creation involves seeing new relations between concepts and things and determining unique solutions to problems. The creative process is about seeing new associations between objects and concepts and the creative person is marked by traits of originality, nonconformity and high levels of knowledge. When you come out with an appropriate yet unique and different solution to a problem that has not been thought before, you are being creative.

Psychologists have tried to explain creativity with many theories. Among these are cognitive theories of creativity (creativity as a cognitive process using mental constructs and structures), behaviorist theories (the environmental and associative nature of creative ideas), psychoanalytic theories (creativity as neuroticism), social theories (creativity as a social process and role of schools and family in the development of gifted children) and personality theories (emphasizing on personal creative traits).

In the psychology of creativity we have to understand two things -firstly the creative process and secondly the creative individual. So the psychology of creativity is about:

1. The Creative Process – this includes the definitions of creativity and the mental processes involved in creativity.

2. The Creative Individual – this is about the personality traits of the creative individual, the attributes of genius and the peculiarities of the creative personality

Psychological theories have tried to explain both the creative process and the creative individual.

The Process of Creativity – So what is creativity and what is the mechanism through which people actually create new ideas, solutions or concepts? According to many theorists, creativity is about chance or serendipity or making discoveries by ‘accident’. So the creative process, according to this explanation is an ‘accident’. This means that while you’re trying out several methods, a best method or a solution to your problem arises out of nowhere and by chance you discover something totally unique. Some people would suggest that the creative process is more of trying to find out new relations between older known concepts so this is less about originality and more about ‘experience’. The more experienced you are in a particular subject area, the more likely you are to consider creative solutions. Creativity has also been described as a moment of ‘insight’. It is almost like enlightenment and divine intervention and a flash and the trick is to prolong this moment and creative individuals are people who can develop their sudden insights. So the creative process can be about a sudden chance, novel use of the knowledge/ experience or a sudden insight. The creative process thus involves using several possibilities/methods and past experiences to arrive at sudden solutions through insights or accidents.

In 1926, Graham Wallas described stages of creativity in which a creative idea is first prepared, then internalized through incubation, after which the creative individual uses the illumination or insight to finally go through the verification process of applying the idea. Psychologist JP Guilford explained creativity with his concept of convergent and divergent thinking and convergent thinking is about trying to find the single correct solution to a problem and divergent thinking is the generation of multiple creative solutions to a problem. Creativity is thus characterized by divergent thinking and generation of multiple possibilities. According to the Geneplore model developed by Finke, Ward and Smith (1992), creativity involves two phases – the generative phase in which the individual generates constructs from pre-inventive structures or known processes/ideas and the exploratory phase in which pre-inventive structures are interpreted to come up with new creative ideas. Most of these psychological theories seem to be emphasizing on preexisting mental structures through knowledge and experience and using these structures for novel or unique solutions. The creative process is thus all about insight, ‘a sudden flash’, almost like a moment of realization and it has been described as serendipity or divine intervention by scientists and artists alike who have tried to described their moment of discovery, although the role of previous knowledge and experience is an equally important background factor. The scientists and artists are able to realize the potential of these ‘flashes’ and are able to recognize, capture and prolong their moments of insight for better realization of their creative goals.

The Personality in Creativity – This brings us to the question about the traits or personality factors that make a person creative. Is there a well-defined creative personality? Of course, there is. Highly creative individuals and geniuses have marked similar traits and although every human being is creative in one way or the other, some individuals actually develop their creativity too well and so they are recognized as creative geniuses. Psychologists believe that all highly creative individuals have certain common personality traits.

1. Complexity – The creative individuals love complex situations and problems as this provides a challenge to their own mental abilities and help them to think of several possible solutions

2. Flexibility – Highly creative individuals are extremely open-minded and receptive to new ideas and possibilities which help them to move beyond traditional modes of thinking

3. Confidence – Boldness and confidence mark the creative genius as in order to be a pioneer, one has to have leadership qualities, extreme self-confidence and creative geniuses are leaders as they show a new path and open new possibilities

4. Non-conformity – The creative process itself is an act of non-conformity so creative individuals are non-conformists and unconventional.

5. Intuition – Highly creative people are extremely intuitive and they can scare you with their ability to read minds and people’s thoughts. That is how they can create as they have to know the order of things and are able to predict people’s responses.

6. Sensitivity – Creative individuals have well developed sensitivity as without extreme sensitivity, it is not possible to feel and portray the emotions through creative work. A novelist has to know ‘how it feels’ to be character in his novel otherwise he cannot create a good novel.

7. Curiosity – An insatiable child-like curiosity for almost everything around them is what characterizes the creative genius. The creative individual wants to know and learn new things and is persistently asking questions and this is the fuel for creative growth.

8. Knowledge – Closely associated with curiosity, creative individuals have very good general knowledge as they have to use this knowledge in their creative pursuits. That is why creative people are usually interested in several subject areas.

9. Independence – One trait that definitely characterizes very high creative geniuses is their independence of thought. This is again related to leadership and nonconformity as in order to think independently, one has to move beyond norms.

10. Imagination – The creative person lives in his own world of imagination and has a very highly developed and enriched mental life and even if grounded, sometimes thrives on fantasies.

11. Impulsiveness – Since the creative process is a sudden realization, the creative individual has a love for suddenness and loves to work on impulse. Creating something new is an adventure so impulsiveness which could be recklessness or adventurousness makes the creative individual a compulsive risk-taker.

12. Criticism – Highly creative people are also extremely critical both of themselves and of others. They criticize others and that is how they take new paths and they are also prone to extreme self-criticism.

13. Fluency – The creative person has an extremely fluent thought process and has a prolific range of ideas

14. Charm – The genius is usually characterized by a humorous nature, extreme charm and personal attractiveness and a ‘presence’ that makes them popular and attractive to all sorts of people.

15. Egoism – Highly creative individuals usually have a ‘me first’ attitude and are almost always narcissists or marked by extreme egoism, although they may be very generous and may not reveal their egoism for social reasons and many even transcend the self boundary and work for greater causes.

16. Originality – Creative individuals have a love for the novel and the unique and try moving beyond established ideas to find something radically different

17. Disorder – A love for disorder is common among all creative people as they are apparently bored with order or any predictable course of events

18. Ambiguity – Uncertainty is very attractive for creative individuals and they love the ambiguous or when there are two or more ways of explaining a problem, especially because this gives them freedom of thought and expression.

19. Loneliness – The creative individual is usually a loner and according to psychoanalysis, also a neurotic. The genius is perennially isolated from society and being very uncomfortable with social norms, they tend to avoid social interaction. Political and social leaders are however more socially active than the creative artist and writer, although some tend to lead reclusive lives.

20. Motivation – The creative individuals are extremely motivated, almost driven by a sense of higher purpose in life. They are in a way self aware and enlightened and many of them seem to believe in an unexplained (divine) purpose of existence.

There are of course other traits as creative people are characterized by hyperactivity and obsession with their work, high yet sublimated sexual drives, and according to psychologist Sternberg, wisdom rather than simply intelligence.

The creative process and creative individual naturally leads the discussion to anomalies in creativity. So now finally, some words about the connection between madness and creativity. Creativity has been closely associated with mental illness and the highly creative individuals are considered prone to mental disorders. In fact all creative geniuses may be vulnerable to bipolar disorder or schizophrenia and creativity itself is a sort of neuroticism. Yet I would suggest that even though creative geniuses have propensity towards mental illness, their creative outlet is a very strong tool that helps them to maintain sanity. So considering the inbuilt defense mechanisms that creative individuals have, it is highly unlikely that such people would actually become completely insane. Although there are many exceptions as the creative genius may develop extreme sense of inadequacy and loneliness and may actually show severe mental problems. However in most cases, creative geniuses are not afraid to stretch their minds, thoughts and behavior too far as to almost reach the limits of sanity, so they are branded as ‘weird’ or ‘eccentric’. But these people are extremely strong because they are self-aware and are blessed with the ability of controlling their mind and sanity. So when the whole world is afraid of their perceived madness, they are not. The difference between a madman and a genius is that the genius controls his own madness and can choose to become sane or insane at his own free will.

In fact, the process of creativity is also an exercise in madness, as the creative individual has to continually stretch mental limits to maintain all creative pursuits. The success of the creative genius is another issue and I will discuss it in a separate article.

Different Types Of Night Lighting For Children

It must be stated that night lights are often associated with young children who are perhaps scared of the dark. Or who do not enjoy sleeping in their own room, especially if they are of the age that they have recently been moved from their parents bed. But night lighting is not just a light that is placed in a plug socket by a child’s bed. Many adults are sure to be taking advantage of their many useful applications also.

Children will have many different and unique reasons for not wanting to go to bed, or have an inability to get straight to sleep. Fortunately, there are a range of products that can help encourage going to bed, and help throughout the night. Keep reading to discover the correct ways of using night lights in your child’s bedroom. Because there are many different forms of glow lighting available for the home. Here is a quick run down on the available options.

Socket Night Light

This can be plugged into any socket within the home. Or, perhaps when travelling and staying in a hotel. These can light up bedrooms, hallways and even bathrooms. They will create a gentle glow that is not overpowering or startling. Most will contain light emitting diodes, therefore are incredibly energy efficient.

These will most likely last for many years, and produce a gentle glow that will not disturb any child’s sleep, if kept a few metres from their bed. Plus, providing the safety of knowing the house is appropriately lit, when and if anyone needs to get up at night. Therefore beneficial for not just children, but perhaps adults who require glasses or contact lenses. Having a glow in the dark can provide suitable lighting to get to the toilet and back without the need for glasses or contact lenses.

Projection Lights

These are different. For example, most projection night lights will, as they suggest, project light onto a wall or ceiling. This can be in the form of shapes or even the time. This will be in the form of low light that reflects of solid surfaces. A great way to keep restless sleepers occupied and able to get to sleep. It can also be a great novelty way of encouraging little ones to get into bed early.

Night Light Alarm Clocks

A multifunctional application used by many. Demonstrating the use of time and getting used to setting their own alarm, whilst keeping a steady glow throughout the night. Most products will clearly display whether its night time or day time, in the image or colour displayed.

Night lights as discussed are a very useful and often underrated product, with many different applications. But it is advised that sleeping in a pitch dark room each night is advised. In order to benefit from getting a good night sleep. Therefore, if your child requires a light in order to get to sleep. Consider switching of the night light or night lights, once they drift off to sleep.

Praying To Overcome Invisible Entry Barriers

Recently, I received a frantic midnight

call from one of my readers in Atlanta.

A member of his was facing a foreclosure

on their home in just a matter of days.

He needed my advice… desperately.

I sat down and wrote 14 prayer points

and emailed that to him, along with

specific instructions on when and how

to pray them

(just to be sure we’re all on the same page,

a prayer point is a statement created from

Scripture, designed to address a specific

problem head on. I’ll give you some samples

quite soon).

He quickly passed it on to his friend – Betty.

As sometimes happens, Betty was too tired

to pray that day. But she remembered Claire,

a childhood friend of hers in Texas was

being kicked out of her home for similar

reasons. So what she did was call her

and dictate the prayers to her over the phone.

Here’s what happened…

Claire prayed those prayers that night

(desperately, I might add) before going

to bed as instructed. The following morning

she was awakened by the shrill sound of

the phone ringing.

“Claire?” the voice on the other end asked.

“Yes, who is on the line?” she answered,

wondering who could be calling so early…

at 5:30 a.m.

It was her account officer at the mortgage

company, calling to tell her she had a

brainwave during the night that could help

her avoid foreclosure! She would have to discuss

with her manager that morning and if all went

well, all she would have to do was come in

and sign a few papers later in the day.

By 1:00 pm the second call came. Claire

hurried over for the paperwork.

Mission accomplished!

Well, when Betty heard Claire’s story,

she quickly started to pray the exact, same prayers.

Before the week was out, one of her “distant”

relatives (whom she hadn’t seen in ages)

suddenly dropped by out of the blue.

He ended up buying the property and (hear this)

re-selling it to her at zero cost!

Incredible?

Actually there’s a little-known biblical

principle behind all this. You see, the prayer

points I gave were carefully designed to pull down

invisible barriers of entry that exists in

every community, in every city, in

every country on this planet.

What Is An Entry Barrier?

Look at this as an invisible structure

(or entity) whose job is to keep people out

of enjoying certain benefits in certain places.

Think of the many (well-qualified) people

you know who somehow can’t seem to settle

down to a good job; or some of those who

seem to lose them mysteriously;

Or those who cannot hang on to good things

for too long – before you know it,

relationships turn sour, friends become enemies,

depression and drugs set in

(there’s a really huge market for

anti-depressants in my city…).

If you notice these things happening repeatedly,

you need to carry out what is referred to as,

“Spiritual Environmental Sanitation.”

Here’s how.

Pick a date when you could have a very light

dinner (or none at all).

Just before going to bed, do these 8 things:

1. Start by singing praises to God.

2. Open your Bible to Psalm 91 and read the

whole chapter out loud (this is one of the most

powerful ‘covering’ Scriptures in the Bible).

3. Symbolically sprinkle the blood of Jesus

upon your land (your land is the spiritual

space God has allocated to you).

4. Ask the blood of Jesus to begin to speak

over your land (Heb. 12:24 says the blood speaks, you know).

5. Address the gates and high places of your

land using Ps 24:7

6. Ask the LORD to loose His angels over your land.

7. Use the key of David to open the prison doors

of your land (this is a spiritual key that

Jesus gives to His beloved followers for this

kind of operation Rev. 3:7).

8. Give thanks to God and close with praises.

In a nutshell, that’s the pattern I followed when

I created those prayer points.

Why am I telling you this?

To show you that for every problem you may face,

there are targeted prayers you can pray to

deal with them.

Unfortunately, most folks are

unaware of these and the consequences are that a

lot of people are suffering needlessly.

What I’m hoping to do here is offer you

something you can do right now to get immediate

results for your efforts – if you’re a Christian.

(I’m not interested in telling you pie-in-the-sky

stories that don’t work).

If you’re not (a Christian), you can become one –

the door of salvation is still open and is still FREE

Understanding Silverfish and What You Can Do to Prevent Them

Ever wonder why, when you place old books and magazines in, say, the attic, or even on a bookshelf, the pages can sometimes become disintegrate or have a ‘chewed-up’ appearance. That’s because of silverfish, insects that live for eating your paper belongings, sparing nothing, including diaries, and other keepsakes.

Silverfish live in moist, humid climates worldwide. They are typically found in heavily-populated, cosmopolitan regions. These winged insects get their name from having a silver-color and movements that resemble a fish. They virtually are harmless to human health, but will wreak havoc on your belongings (anything containing starch) – books, magazines, pillows, bedding, clothing, carpet, your food, and even your hair!

You can find silverfish anywhere in your home or office, but they particularly love dark, damp places such as attics, bedrooms, bathrooms, kitchens, basements, and more. They love to eat paste too, which means even your home’s wallpaper is at risk. You’ll know if you have them based on the odd-shaped holes that are left behind. Plus they are large enough to where you can actually see them.

If you do have silverfish, you’ll likely need to call a pest control professional to help you mitigate the problem. This will also ensure you’re given the correct diagnosis to the problem and the proper solution is used to treat Silverfish. You don’t want to attempt to treat your home for silverfish, only to realize you’re dealing with termites.

Most pest control professionals will use a product containing Boric Acid to kill off silverfish. The bugs ingest the acid, which their stomachs cannot digest, and they die off. Once your pest control professional has sprayed your home, you’ll need to thoroughly vacuum your home. Be prepared to clean up bug corpses. Hey, the dead bugs have to go somewhere, right?

Once you’ve mitigated the problem with the bugs, you’ll want to take preventative measures to ensure you don’t encounter problems with Silverfish or other insect infestations again. Be sure to vacuum often. Don’t keep old newspapers and magazines in piles (we’re in a digital age, folks. It’s okay to part ways with old newspaper articles. If you have to, scan them).

Don’t leave food out. Put it away in the fridge. Silverfish love sugars. They feed off of starches. Consider putting a dehumidifier in your home or use fans to keep things cool and keep the air circulating throughout your home. If your home feels like a sauna every day, you should want to get that fixed anyway.

Most importantly, be sure to schedule routine professional pest control to ensure you are protecting your home from silverfish and other insects. It’s much better to be on the preventative side of the problem than to have to witness these creepy, crawly insects, or clean-up a massive mess of bug skeletons.

Timber Suspended Floors – Specifications and Benefits

You can find timber suspended floors mainly in older houses in Britain. But after the Second World War, the timbers were restricted to use. Thus, other forms of building were adopted. Timber suspended floors can be used in different parts of your house.

Timber suspended ground floors: A Timber suspended ground floors contain a number of boards including tongued, well-grooved and man-made boards like plywood or timber beams. These timber beams are 15.7 inches apart and are held by timber wall plates that are adequately supported by the main walls of the house. The wall plates are bedded on the top of a proper damp-proof course.

Timber suspended upper floors: Similar to the timber suspended ground floors, the timber suspended upper floors also contain timber sheets of man-made board laid over that are supported through timber beams. Usually, timber suspended floors are at the upper level than at the ground level. They are known as single floors as the beams bridge a single cross to run from wall to wall.

The timber beams of the upper floors are bigger than the hollow ground floors as additional support is simply not possible in the upper floors. They form a bridge of narrow span across the minute part of the room. If the timber beams are more than 1.3 ft in thickness then a binder is used to support the beams. The ends of these beams are built into the walls and are supported by the hangers or fixed on the walls. The end of the timber beams which is built into the walls will be covered with some preservative to protect the timber from moist and such. Usually the roof of the room beneath the floor is plastered or fixed with the plasterboard.

Solid ground floors: This is another form of timber floor having different layers of various materials. The very first layer is made up of hardcore compositions of crushed stone and of broken brick of 3.94 inches to 5.90 inches in thickness. This is to provide a solid and level foot for the floor slab. Above this 1.97 inches thick layer of fine ash, sand and weak mix concrete is covered to bind the surface. This layer is used to give a smooth surface for bedding damp-proof covering. The damp proof covering should not be placed directly on the hardcore.

Floating wood floors: These types of floors are very fashionable and beneficial. They are not really permanent floors because they just float on top of floors that are already in place, making them very easy to lay and manage. They are not fixed, to the sub floors an anyway. There is no need of any sticking material, or nails, to fix this flooring. You can set such timber floating floors on any normal flooring.

Timber suspended floors have always been a popular method of construction and will probably be used by builders for many years to come.
