Outlook Command Line Switches

How to Use Command Line Switches for Outlook

One the primary applications on almost all windows machines is Outlook. I know our of all the applications I use, it would be one I spend the most time in. I recently found some excellent command line switches to improve the outlook operation and to add extra functionality to your everyday use of Outlook.

A command line switch is a an extra command added to the end of the application executable. For the less nerdy readers, to open an application you icon, this is linked to a application file called an executable, example outlook.exe. This will open the outlook to your desktop. With a switch you can change the opening operation and make it do different things, example you could use a switch to create a shortcut that opens outlook to the calendar page.

  1. Click the Start button, and then click Search to find the Outlook executable file, Outlook.exe. For example, by default the path for Outlook 2010 on a 32-bit version of Windows is;
  2. C:Program FilesMicrosoft OfficeOffice14Outlook.exe and 64-bit is C:Program Files (x86)Microsoft OfficeOffice14Outlook.exe
  3. (if you have outlook 2007 it will be Office12, 13 is an evil number)
  4. Right-click Outlook.exe, and then on the shortcut menu point to Send To, and then click Desktop (create shortcut).
  5. Close the Search Results dialog box, and then go to the desktop.
  6. Right-click the shortcut you just created, and from the shortcut menu click Properties.
  7. On the Shortcut tab, locate the Target box. It contains the path for Outlook.exe.
  8. Press the SPACEBAR once to type a space after the path, and then type;
  9. /select outlook:calendar
  10. The full command should now look like this;
  11. “C:Program FilesMicrosoft OfficeOffice12Outlook.exe” /select outlook:calendar
  12. Click OK.
  13. On the desktop, double-click the Outlook shortcut you created.

Below as a list of all the different switches you can use to create a long list of shortcuts to speed up productivity. To be careful with some of them as they will clear out a lot of the cache and lists in outlook if you use the wrong one. If you are unsure about witch one to use, feel free to drop a comment and I am happy to assist .

Sinus Infections – The Dangers of Not Taking Them Seriously

There are two types of sinus infections (also known as sinusitis), acute and chronic. Bacteria in the upper respiratory tract are normally the cause of an acute sinus infection. Two percent of adults and twenty percent of children will suffer a sinus infection during a bout with the common cold. Fortunately, this form of infection reacts very well to treatment and usually goes away within two to three weeks.

Chronic sinus infections however, are very common. According to statistics, over thirty-seven million Americans suffer from chronic sinusitis, which could last for over three months. Unfortunately, hence the name “chronic”, it usually returns.

Acute and chronic sinus infections both have similar symptoms, which include dental pain, cough, bad breath, stuffy nose, erythema, fatigue, difficulty breathing, fever, nausea, pain around the eyes, cheeks, nose or forehead, and sore throat.

People suffering with chronic or acute sinusitis should consult a doctor, because if left untreated, severe medical problems and sometimes death could come about.

Here are some complications that could arise from an untreated and undiagnosed sinus infection.

We all know that fevers and runny noses are synonymous with sinus infections. However, many people do not know that soft tissue inflammation above the frontal sinus may be an indication of an infection of the frontal bone, also known as Osteomyelitis.

Another complication called Ethmoid sinusitis may infect the eye socket, which could lead to severe swelling or the eye appearing droopy. This condition could lead to lasting blindness. In addition, a blood clot could form around the front and top of the face in which the pupils become fixed and dilated and could occur in both the right and left eyes.

Sinus infections are also capable of altering someone’s personality or their consciousness. Unfortunately, if this occurs, the infection may have already spread to the brain, which will result in a coma or death.

This is why seeing a doctor is so important. People with strong immune systems can fight off the infection without seeing a physician; however, children and the elderly are at a greater risk for these complications to occur. Taking action immediately and seeking help will allow the doctor plenty of time to diagnose the problem and recommend the right treatment for the illness.

Doctor’s can usually tell a sinus infection by lightly touching the face for tenderness in the skin, however, CT scans, MRI’s , and X-rays are also used to determine the problem.

Over-the-counter drugs like Tylenol are among the most widely used treatments for sinusitis that doctors recommend. If the patient shows no improvement within a week, then it is most likely a bacterial infection. The doctor will then run a series of tests to determine the origin of the bacterium, and then he or she will prescribe the right type of antibiotic to remedy the situation.

Recovery time depends on the person. Some people start feeling better after two days on antibiotics, while some can still feel under the weather for days and weeks. Antibiotic treatment for a sinus infection usually lasts for two weeks, but it could be extended seven more days in the case of a chronic infection.

There are plenty of home remedies out there for sinus infections. Some of these remedies work very well; however, do not hesitate to go see a doctor if you feel no improvement in your condition after a couple days. Children and the elderly should go straight to the doctor if a sinus infection is suspected.

Eye Contact, Body Language, And Martial Arts

I was browsing the bookstore before sitting down to write today’s post and I came across a book entitled The Power Of Eye Contact: Your Secret For Success In Business, Love, and Life by Michael Ellsberg. I couldn’t put it down. How we communicate through our eyes and our body language has interested me for as long as I can remember, probably partly due to how useful of a tool it has been in reading my sparring partners in a match.

The overall message of this book was that the eyes REALLY ARE the windows to the soul. When we look into a person’s eyes we get a very real sense of who they are and what they’re feeling in that moment. And they get a sense of the same in us. This is why making eye contact with someone can feel so awkward. It’s a very vulnerable moment. By holding eye contact with another person you are allowing them to see how you are really feeling. There’s no hiding. If you are shy, nervous, upset, bored, lying–all these will show up if the other person is paying attention.

As I read I thought about my own experience with eye contact and body language through training in martial arts. I remember how hard it was when I first started martial arts to look my sparring partners in the eyes, especially if they were better than me. My posture was also usually one of submissiveness.

Eventually I became more aware of the role eye contact and body language made in my martial arts success and I started trying to appear tough and confident in front of my training and sparring partners. I felt like I had to put up a facade of security and inner strength.

Over time and with great training and sparring partners I have been able to develop a much more open REALness to my eye contact and body language. I developed a TRUE sense of inner strength that has allowed me to be in the moment with my training partners, totally free of insecurity and more able to see what was going on for them so that I could strategize accordingly.

If you would like to have this kind of PRESENCE in the world I hope that you would consider martial arts training. There’s no better place for developing this kind of openness and vulnerability, or the deep inner strength to maintain it, than on the martial arts mat where you will come face to face with all of your fears and you’ll practice moving through them time and time again.

Xbox 360 Fixes to Avoid

Does your Xbox 360 have the RROD, E74, or some other common error? Are you confused about which Xbox 360 fix is right for you?

Many owners are overwhelmed with the number of possible Xbox 360 fixes available to them all over the Internet.

Most people are out to find the quickest fix possible, but you need to be sure to watch out for those so called “quick fixes”. Some of those quick fixes include the towel trick, which involves wrapping your Xbox 360 in a towel, and the toothpick/paperclip trick, which involves stopping the fans with toothpicks or paperclips. The towel, toothpick, and paperclip trick are three very well known Xbox 360 fixes, and are found all over YouTube. Both so-called fixes are harmful to your system, and I would strongly recommend that you stay away from them. These fixes over-heat the entire system, instead of just targeting the problem areas, causing more problems than you even had before.

Both of the tricks I mentioned previously will give you a working Xbox 360 for about a week max. That is, if you don’t damage the system during the process. The towel and the toothpick trick both are designed to heat up your Xbox 360 so that the solder of the GPU chip can reattach to the mother board. The GPU is a computer chip that is almost always responsible for causing the Red Rings of Death (RROD). Now most of the time you can somewhat reattach the GPU to the motherboard with the towel or toothpick trick, but there are two major problems/risks. The first problem is that the system by itself does not generate enough heat to fully reattach the GPU to the motherboard. Another risk is that the motherboard is not properly insulated. Without the motherboard being properly insulated, you run the risk of damaging other components of the mother board. The Xbox 360 motherboard can never be properly insulated unless you take your console apart. If a fix does not involve opening your console, it is most likely not going to work, or it will last for a very short period of time.

So, if your warranty is up and you are determined to fix your Xbox 360 by yourself, stay away from the towel trick, the tooth pick trick, and any other so called quick fix that does not require you to open up your console.

Troubleshooting Your SircleLam EM-40 Roll Laminator

The SircleLam EM-40 roll laminating machine makes an excellent addition to any office or production environment, both because of its robust features and its ease of use. Below is a list of helpful tips for troubleshooting common problems with the SircleLam EM-40:

  • Laminator is inoperative. The motor does not run, and all of the indicator lights are out.
  • Possible Solutions:
  • The easiest and most common solution is to check that your laminator is properly plugged in. Ensure that the plug is firmly inserted into the socket, and if that does not help, you may want to try plugging it in to a different socket.
  • Check that your circuit breaker has not been tripped. If your laminator shares a circuit with another piece of equipment that uses a large amount of electricity, it is possible that turning one machine on while the other was running tripped the circuit.
  • As with most electronics, your laminator may blow a fuse from time to time. The SircleLam EM-40 uses a 20 amp fuse, which is located behind the cover of the machine on the left side.

  • Both the laminating film and the item that is being laminated are moving through laminator erratically.

Possible Solutions:

  • Check thickness of the item that you are laminating. The maximum laminating thickness (without loosening the pressure adjustment screws) is 1/16″ (1.66mm). If your document is thicker than 1/16″, simply loosen the four pressure adjustment screws (each full turn of the screws increases the clearance by 1/16″).
  • Your heat shoes may have adhesive residue stuck to them, which can prevent the film from feeding smoothly into the machine. Carefully clean the Teflon-coated surface of the heat shoes with either a roller cleaning kit or a soft cloth that has been dampened with denatured alcohol. Allow the heat shoes to dry thoroughly before attempting to re-thread your laminator. Note: The Teflon surface of the heat shoes can be easily damaged if abrasive or sharp objects are used to clean them, so it is important that you always use a soft cloth to remove the adhesive residue.

  • The laminating film is not bonding to the document that is being laminated, or to itself at the edges.

Possible Solutions:

  • Make sure heat shoes and rollers are at proper operating temperature based on the type of film being used. If you have recently replaced the supply rolls with a film that is different in thickness or composition than the film you usually use, you may need to increase the temperature in order to properly fuse the film to the item that you are laminating.
  • Because of the substantial 40″ laminating width, the SircleLam EM-40 laminator takes approximately 30 minutes to fully warm up. Be sure that you have allowed your machine to reach the proper temperature before attempting to laminate anything.

  • Wrinkles appear on the laminated documents that run parallel with the outside edges.

Possible Solutions:

  • Increase the film tension on top and/or bottom supply rolls, using the tensioning knobs located on the right side of each mandrel. Tightening the knobs will apply more pressure to the mandrels, which provides more resistance and makes the supply rolls slightly more difficult to turn.
  • Lower the laminating temperature and allow the heat shoes to cool slightly before attempting to laminate again.
  • If your heat shoes have adhesive residue stuck to them, the film may not feed uniformly into the machine. Carefully clean the Teflon-coated surface of the heat shoes with either a roller cleaning kit or a soft cloth that has been dampened with denatured alcohol. Allow the heat shoes to dry completely before attempting to re-thread your laminator. Note: The Teflon surface of the heat shoes can be easily damaged if abrasive or sharp objects are used to clean them, so it is important that you always use a soft cloth to remove the adhesive residue.

  • The film blisters across the document that is being laminated or along the edges where the layers of film meet.

Possible Solutions:

  • Blistering lamination film is usually a sign that the temperature is set too high. Try reducing the temperature on one or both heat shoes and allowing the heat shoes to cool for a few minutes before attempting to laminate. If the temperature indicator light remains on after the temperature has been adjusted, disconnect the power supply and contact your dealer.
  • If the paper that you are laminating contains any moisture, blisters may form during lamination. Be sure to store your paper in a dry place and allow all ink to dry thoroughly before laminating.

  • Laminated documents curl after they exit the pull rollers (the set of rollers located at the rear of the machine).

Possible Solutions:

  • Having the film curl upward or downward after existing the laminator is a sign that the roller tensions are not set evenly. If laminated item curls upward, reduce the tension on the top supply mandrel. If item curls downward, reduce the tension on the bottom supply mandrel. To reduce the tension, simply loosen the tensioning knob located on the right side of the mandrel.
  • Residual adhesives on the heat shoes may be causing “drag” on one of the rolls of film.

Important Things to Consider When Opening a Fashion Boutique

When it comes to fashion labels, most women have their personal favourites. Wearable original designs, ranging from updated little black dresses, sexy sweaters, skinny jeans, chic blazers, gorgeous jackets and other statement pieces with a giant dollop of sex appeal may simply be hard for some women to resist.

Celebrities and regular individuals alike can look so chic and put together wearing clothes that are well-designed. A burning passion for fashion can be enough inspiration for some enterprising individuals to decide on opening a fashion boutique. It is also amazing to note that behind some of the really eye-catching fashion collections are designers who really toiled hard before succeeding in building a fashion empire. You would hear of some world-famous fashion designers recalling how they had to do extra design jobs to keep their companies afloat during their early years in the fashion business. Many of them worked with experienced designers and collaborated with talented people to learn the ropes and also to create attractive interiors and hassle-free shopping ambience for their own stores.

If you re among those looking forward to opening a fashion boutique someday, you would be inspired to know what famous designers such as Tory Burch, Anna Sui, Chloe Dao and several others went through to get their business off the ground. Some designers studied art and design and spent years as apprentices trailing after a mentor, while others stepped out of the shadows of a regular job and built their own fashion brand with the help of family, friends and business partners. The common thread running through most designers is hard work. Ingenuity is another plus factor. A handful of designers get a great reception by offering quality options at a reasonable price range. A few – including some high-profile Hollywood stars who have launched their own fashion labels – got off to a rocky start.

Successful fashion boutique owners share that one of the most important things to get cash registers ringing, or to make customers to stay loyal to their label is to offer quality products. Most customers gravitate to a particular brand for the lifestyle it offers. They go for something fresh, fun and nice to wear yet elegant. Aspiring fashion boutique operators should plan everything – from the product mix, to the store location and interiors, to the logistics aspect, to customer service and marketing campaign. Opening a fashion boutique, like other ventures (as running a restaurant), also requires monitoring the daily cash flow. A trustworthy manager may be delegated by the fashion boutique owner to handle this task. Ensuring a healthy financial bottomline is crucial. In addition, it is also important to continually be updated on evolving fashion tastes.

Repairing a Burned Formica Counter

There are a few options that will work for repairing a Formica plastic laminate countertop that has been burned. All of these methods should be done by a trained professional at working with Formica countertops.

Installing a Surface Saver

This is one of the easiest and least expensive ways to eliminate a burn mark from a plastic laminate countertop. There are many cutting board styles and sizes available. These fixtures need to be fastened in place from under the countertop. If the damaged area is over the diswasher, you will need to hire a plumber to remove the appliance and to reinstall it.

Steps For Eliminating the Burnt Area:

1) Locate the appropriate sized cutting board insert

2) Mark the cutout dimensions on the Formica surface

3) Place masking tape over the marks

4) Redraw the cut lines on the masking tape if necessary

5) Drill a hole that your jig saw blade will fit through

6) Cut slowly along the line

7) Install the Surface Saver by following the directions on the package

Have a Butcher Block Cutting Board Custom Made and Installed

A skilled cabinetry expert can fabricate and install a custom made butcher block cutting board. These are generally made with a lipped edge that will overhang a hole that gets cut into the countertop.

  1. Fabricate a one inch thick cutting board that has a ¾” x ¼” rabbit joint edge all around
  2. Cut out the burned area of the Formica top
  3. Add a bottom under the hole that was cut out so that it creates a ¾” recessed area for the cutting board to fit into.
  4. Laminate the inside of the recessed areas with Formica.
  5. Insert the butcher block

When you are done, the butcher block should recess into the countertop and lip over the hole that was cut in the counter.

Recovering the Countertop

This will be the most expensive option for repairing a burnt laminate top. It is possible to cover over the burnt laminate with new Formica. You may need to resurface all of your tops in your color is discontinued.

Painting Your Tops

There are kits on the market specifically designed for painting Formica countertops. You could cut out the burned laminate and fill the hole with a new board. Then you would need to use automotive filler (Bondo) to fill in the area to be flush with the laminate. These paint kits generally are available in granite patterns with several color selections to choose from. Fill and sand the area until it is perfectly flat with “no” flaws.

No matter how you look at it-repairing a burned area of a Formica countertop is going to cost at least $200 to $1500. Your cost will depend upon the size of the top and repair method you select. The only method I would suggest you try yourself is painting the top. All the other suggested fixes for the burned Formica should be done by a professional cabinet man.

The Benefits of Installing Halo Projector Headlights

Headlights are a main feature of any car as they help the driver during the dark hours to see properly and drive safely. Headlights have become a fashion more than a necessity in the modern world. People compete with each other and try to install the latest and stylish ones. Halo projector headlights are the latest addition in this category and are well appreciated by the car enthusiasts.

Halo projector headlights are also available in the market by the name of Angel Eyes Headlights. The beam of these projectors is white and very intense and looks beautiful during the night. It illuminates the front path of a car more than a regular headlight. You can find some of these lights with LED options like the ones installed in the Audi R8.

Another good thing about the halo projector headlights is that they consume less energy and provide more illumination. These lights are best suitable to the night drivers and if you are not a frequent night mover then you can use these lights to enhance the grace of your car. If you are a car junkie then you must be familiar with all kinds of headlights and will surely know the advantages of halo projectors.

Halo projector headlights have more straight forward frame of light so the light beam does not scatter in the surroundings; instead its focus is straight which makes the front path more clear and that is exactly what a driver wants. These lights are more suitable for long route drivers and people who are living in mountain areas where seeing a clear road is the guarantee of life. If you experience fog in your area then their intense beam of light will be helpful for you.

If you are an expert in car mechanics then you can install your own halo projectors with care but if you don’t know much then its better to get a professional’s help because installing them is not an easy task. They have pairs of wires that need to be connected to the right circuits otherwise your whole set of lights will fuse and you will need to buy another one. So spending a little more on getting a professional to do it will be a good investment.

It is not important to own a rich fancy car to feel classy and lavish, after adding these superior accessories you can make your less expensive car an elegant and expensive one. You will notice that this little change in your car will make a great impact and many people will be impressed and ask you about it.

Keeping yourself connected to the car accessories and new gadgets also helps you to keep your social circle intact and meet with people who share the same interests. This socialization will help you a lot in learning new things about cars and the latest hot accessory. Halo projector headlights may cost you a bit more than ordinary headlights as they are the latest in trend and the technology used them is worth spending the money for.

Pendant Lights: Basic Facts

Pendant lights have of late become very popular. Their presence has been strongly felt in modern restaurant lighting as well as hospitality lighting plans. Pendant lights essentially hang from the ceiling, just like chandeliers. The difference between the two lies primarily in styling and looks. Chandeliers are used to create traditional lighting patterns because of their intricate patterns and styles, whereas modern pendant lightning is closer to the contemporary styles of décor. They are exquisitely stylish yet trendy in their appeal. Pendants are being increasingly favored to light up diverse areas primarily because of their simple and chic designs. In addition, traditional forms like the chandeliers require multiple bulbs or lighting units, whereas pendants usually need only one, making them look even sleeker.

There are various purposes which pendant lights serve. They can be used for focused lighting over specific areas. These include kitchen tables, study tables, or even dining tables. When used in this way, they provide the required lighting and also enhance the aesthetic appeal of the surroundings in a stylish way. Also, pendants can be used to make various patterns for theme lighting at several places like restaurants, offices, and the like. They can be flexibly used at different heights for creating amazing sequences. Such lighting especially comes in handy for illuminating nooks and corners of your living rooms as they are compact in form and can be easily hung from the ceiling.

Primarily, installing pendant lights seem to be a great idea. Yet, some factors need to be closely looked into before you plan to install these lights. You need to select the most apt lighting levels to suit your purpose. Task-oriented lighting will require stronger ones, whereas theme lighting would require diffused versions. Before purchase, also consider whether these lights gel with your overall décor. Check with the price points too for a premeditated budget in place.

The advantages of having pendant lights are many. Some most apparent benefits are listed below:

Overcoming Communication Barriers Between People

When you send a message, you intend to communicate meaning, but the message itself doesn’t contain meaning. The meaning exists in your mind and in the mind of your receiver. To understand one another, you and your receiver must share similar meanings for words, gestures, tone of voice, and other symbols.

1. Differences in perception

The world constantly bombards us with information: sights, sounds, scents, and so on. Our minds organize this stream of sensation into a mental map that represents our perception or reality. In no case is the perception of a certain person the same as the world itself, and no two maps are identical. As you view the world, your mind absorbs your experiences in a unique and personal way. Because your perceptions are unique, the ideas you want to express differ from other people’s Even when two people have experienced the same event, their mental images of that event will not be identical. As senders, we choose the details that seem important and focus our attention on the most relevant and general, a process known as selective perception. As receivers, we try to fit new details into our existing pattern. If a detail doesn’t quite fit, we are inclined to distort the information rather than rearrange the pattern.

2. Incorrect filtering

Filtering is screening out before a message is passed on to someone else. In business, the filters between you and your receiver are many; secretaries, assistants, receptionists, answering machines, etc. Those same gatekeepers may also ‘translate’ your receiver’s ideas and responses before passing them on to you. To overcome filtering barriers, try to establish more than one communication channel, eliminate as many intermediaries as possible, and decrease distortion by condensing message information to the bare essentials.

3. Language problems

When you choose the words for your message, you signal that you are a member of a particular culture or subculture and that you know the code. The nature of your code imposes its own barriers on your message. Barriers also exist because words can be interpreted in more than one way. Language is an arbitrary code that depends on shared definitions, but there’s a limit to how completely any of us share the same meaning for a given word. To overcome language barriers, use the most specific and accurate words possible. Always try to use words your audience will understand. Increase the accuracy of your messages by using language that describes rather than evaluates and by presenting observable facts, events, and circumstances.

4. Poor listening

Perhaps the most common barrier to reception is simply a lack of attention on the receiver’s part. We all let our minds wander now and then, regardless of how hard we try to concentrate. People are essentially likely to drift off when they are forced to listen to information that is difficult to understand or that has little direct bearing on their own lives. Too few of us simply do not listen well! To overcome barriers, paraphrase what you have understood, try to view the situation through the eyes of other speakers and resist jumping to conclusions. Clarify meaning by asking non-threatening questions, and listen without interrupting.

5. Differing emotional states

Every message contains both a content meaning, which deals with the subject of the message, and a relationship meaning, which suggests the nature of the interaction between sender and receiver. Communication can break down when the receiver reacts negatively to either of these meanings. You may have to deal with people when they are upset or when you are. An upset person tends to ignore or distort what the other person is saying and is often unable to present feelings and ideas effectively. This is not to say that you should avoid all communication when you are emotionally involved, but you should be alert to the greater potential for misunderstanding that accompanies aroused emotions. To overcome emotional barriers, be aware of the feelings that arise in your self and in others as you communicate, and attempt to control them. Most important, be alert to the greater potential for misunderstanding that accompanies emotional messages.

6. Differing backgrounds

Differences in background can be one of the hardest communication barriers to overcome. Age, education, gender, social status, economic position, cultural background, temperament, health, beauty, popularity, religion, political belief, even a passing mood can all separate one person from another and make understanding difficult. To overcome the barriers associated with differing backgrounds, avoid projecting your own background or culture onto others. Clarify your own and understand the background of others, spheres of knowledge, personalities and perceptions and don’t assume that certain behaviors mean the same thing to everyone.

Kenaf – The Environmental Entrepreneurship Powerhouse

Kenaf, Hibiscus cannabinus L.is a warm season annual closely related to cotton (Gossypium hirsutum L.) and okra (Abelmoschus esculentus L.).

Kenaf can be used as a domestic supply of cordage fiber in the manufacture of rope, twine, carpet backing and burlap. Research, in the early 1940s, focused on the development of high-yielding anthracnose-resistant varieties, cultural practices and harvesting machinery.

During the 1950s, kenaf was identified as a promising fiber source for paper pulp. Kenaf fibers have been processed into high quality newsprint and bond paper.

Although kenaf is usually considered a fiber crop, research indicates that it has high protein content and, therefore, is a potential livestock feed. Crude protein in kenaf leaves ranged from 21 to 34 percent, stalk crude protein ranged from 10 to 12 percent, and whole-plant crude protein ranged from 16 to 23 percent.

Kenaf can be ensilaged effectively, and it has satisfactory digestibility with a high percentage of digestible protein. Digestibility of dry matter and crude proteins in kenaf feeds ranged from 53 to 58 percent, and 59 to 71 percent, respectively Kenaf meal, used as a supplement in a rice ration for sheep, compared favorably with a ration containing alfalfa meal.

In addition to the use of kenaf for cordage, paper pulp and livestock feed researchers have investigated its use as poultry litter and animal bedding, bulking agent for sewage sludge composting and as a potting soil amendment. Additional products include automobile dashboards, carpet padding, corrugated medium, as a “substitute for fiberglass and other synthetic fibers,” building materials (particle boards of various densities, thicknesses, and fire and insect resistances), absorbents, textiles and as fibers in extraction molded plastics.

Kenaf is in the Hibiscus family, is cousin to Cotton and Okra, and is currently grown mainly in China and India for its high strength fibers. Nobody has focused on kenaf for food because the leaves did not taste good. However, a unique strand known as Whitten Kenaf was developed by the Mississippi Agricultural and Forestry Experiment Station and released for general use in 2005. These leaves taste quite good, a sort of lemony, Cajun taste. This variety of kenaf has wide cotton shaped leaves, can be used for food, has been grown for food in Haiti for 3 years where they love the taste and have developed their own recipes. The leaves, seeds, stalk and core are all separate harvests. The result is multiple uses and benefits.

The kenaf plant is one of the fastest growing plants in the world, much faster than local weeds, so it requires minimal soil preparation and is easy to plant and maintain. Because the soil does not have to be tilled, maximum microorganism density is maintained and chemical fertilizers are not needed Kenaf is an extremely efficient plant that uses minimal resources, with exceptional output. Kenaf plants grow up to 20 feet tall. One acre can produce as much as 20 tons of biomass in 6 months.

Low Water Usage

The stalk and roots have the ability to store water like a camel, so the plant performs extremely well, even in arid/drought conditions where most other plants fail. When planted before rainy season, no follow-up watering is needed. This absolves the need for expensive irrigation and water rights issues.

Leaves Feed Humans

Whitten Kenaf leaves are delicious and high in protein, up to 34%. It is regularly eaten in Haiti in soups, salads, boiled like spinach or added to rice. Kenaf can be eaten within 10 days of planting, when just 18 inches tall, and the leaves and stems can be continually harvested from that point forward. Each planted seed has the potential of creating 80 servings of edible food. Therefore, it can be used as a high protein starvation aversion crop. In fact, 2,000 people in Mirebalais, Haiti used kenaf to keep from starving in 2009.

In Haiti, several kenaf leaf recipes have been developed. Seeds Feed Humans can be ground into wonderful gluten-free flour for baking. In Mirebalais, Haiti they use kenaf flour for several recipes. 1/2 pound of kenaf flour can make 20 to 30 pan sized breakfast pancakes.

There is a long tradition of using kenaf for food in India to produce gongura. There are many recipes and photos of foods based on gongura on the internet.

Money Crop

Kenaf seeds are sold by the pound, which consists of about 20,000 seeds. 1 pound of kenaf seed currently costs $4.00 USD. In poor soil conditions, 1 kenaf plant produces about 200 seeds. 10 acres of poor soil can grow 10,000 lbs of kenaf seed per growing season, representing $40,000 USD of income. Florida research farmer Harry Long, in cooperation Mr. Loftus, came up with an organic formula where they yielded 11,382 seeds per plant!! It takes about 1 year from planting time before local farmers can harvest and sell the seeds as a money crop. They can sell the stalks as firewood at that time, too.

Animal Feed:

Leaves can be dried and turned into different sized pellets as high protein feed for rabbits, fish, chickens, and goats. Rabbit meat is really wonderful for you, being lower in fats and cholesterol and higher in protein than beef. Commercial grade rabbit farming and fish farming (tilapia) can be sustained with kenaf pellets. (The US currently imports $750M of tilapia per year from China.)

A backyard farming method is also being perfected for small scale production of rabbits, fish, chickens, and goats, on small plots of land using home grown kenaf pellets, virtually eliminating feed costs. This provides meat, fish, poultry, eggs, and dairy products for family consumption and for sale/export. This could be a self sustaining source of food and income for the poorest of the poor. They can make $25 per week growing and picking their own kenaf for animal feed, starting within 2 months of planting the seed. This doesn’t even take into consideration the income they can receive from selling their livestock.

Cooking Fuel:

Cooking Fuel: The kenaf stalk has a heat value comparable to burning pine. A low cost, safe, smokeless Kenaf Stove has been designed for high efficiency cooking and bio-char (a form of charcoal) production. The Kenaf Stove burns kenaf or wood in an oxygen deprived environment, resulting in a much cleaner, no smoke fire where the fuel lasts MUCH longer. 4 families can have a year’s supply of fuel from a football field size of planted kenaf. When the air supply to the stove is shut off, bio-char is created. Making bio-char from kenaf and putting it into the soil as a soil amendment replenishes the soil and functions as a fertilizer and a soil stabilizer.

This recapturing of waste lands can halt deforestation and desertification as people use kenaf instead of collecting wood for cooking. Any bio-char not used as fertilizer can be molded into charcoal briquettes. The Kenaf Stove can also use grass, waste paper, etc. to make bio-char which is then made into charcoal briquettes. Families can then sell the charcoal for income.

Carbon Sequestration

One acre of kenaf can sequester 8 times as much carbon as an acre of evergreen trees. One acre of kenaf absorbs approximately 10 to 20 tons of Carbon during photosynthesis. When used as cooking fuel on the Kenaf Stove, an additional 5 tons of bio-char is made. When put into the earth, this bio-char permanently stores the carbon in a beneficial way, in the ground.

Kenaf is carbon negative, when you put the bio-char into the soil. If we can change from coal to kenaf for making power, we can sequester enough CO2 per year to completely solve the anthropogenic effect on climate change, impacting global warming

Electricity Generation

Inventor C. Morrison has developed a biomass power plant that can use kenaf biomass to create a hydrogen/carbon monoxide gas called syngas. These gasses are sufficient to run an electrical generator. One power plant can service an entire rural village. The biomass yield for an acre of kenaf is 3 to 4 times higher than for trees. 50 acres of kenaf can fuel 1 power plant, perpetually.

This system is self-contained and poses no air quality, water quality, soil degradation, odor, or noise issues. There are no unique construction or installation requirements. It is as simple to operate as any household appliance and is small enough to fit on a trailer (see picture) or be mounted in a small building. The electricity not used by the rural village can be sold to the electrical power grid as an additional source of income. Imagine a constant supply of electricity being supplied to urban centers by rural villages, this in nations plagued by regular brownouts and blackouts. The only by-product from gasification is a sellable bio-char ash that can be used as a soil amendment for growers.

Organic Fertilizer

An inexpensive organic fertilizer that can be made locally, using bio-char, is being developed. Bio-char acts as a home for microbial activity. This can be used to enhance soil quality even in the poorest of soils, without using dangerous and expensive chemical fertilizers Bio-char as a fertilizer has been known to double plant growth. This will increase the yields and profitability per square meter of the kenaf plants and other fruits and vegetables grown in subsequent years. This will lead to a virtuous cycle of increasing economic prosperity from year to year, using land resources currently viewed as unproductive.

Kenaf bio-char can even be used in treating human bodily waste to convert the nitrogen into productive forms, turning a waste product into a resource. This would improve sanitary conditions and would have been useful during the recent Cholera outbreak in Haiti. 5 gallon buckets can be used as toilets and when combined with biochar, within 6 months the poo and urine can be safely used as fertilizer. If 2 billion people were to use these toilets, then 2 billion pounds of fertilizer would be generated every day. Over time we could even recapture the deserts.

Textiles The bast (thin outer bark) of the kenaf plant is a high strength fiber used to make burlap bags, plastics, industrial and commercial fabrics, cordage, rope and twine.

Kenaf paper has superior fiber content compared to wood-based paper products, and it takes far less time to grow kenaf compared to trees.

Building Materials

The fibrous outer core of plant stems can be used to make composites, polymers, binders, biodegradable plastic, injection molded panels, engineered wood panels, substitute for carbon, glass, other mineral fibers, fibrous reinforcement of plaster, cement, and wall boards. Construction The Styrofoam-like inner core of the kenaf plant can be used for animal bedding, kitty litter, municipal wastewater treatment, and for oil spill cleanup on land or at sea. In conjunction with recycled wood and recycled concrete, the kenaf core can also be used to make a light weight yet very strong cement block that has great insulation properties and is virtually fireproof. These blocks can be used to build single family homes and multi-story buildings, without using power tools.

A self-sustaining environmental home has been designed using kenaf and other technologies, at a cost between $5,000 and $10,000 (depending on conditions, sewage and electrical requirements and sizes) per house. These homes will provide for clean water, housing, electricity, and sanitation. Intended as a developing nation starter home, construction is so simple that kids can assemble a house in 1 day< and a family can easily add-on additional rooms and rent them out as a source of extra income. This makes it possible for single mothers to become financially independent without having to work outside the home. The societal implications of this are staggering

This is a side effect from effectively leveraging kenaf as a way to provide food, shelter, and a living wage, in a rural setting. People living in the city slums can move back to their rural origins and actually provide for themselves, sustainably. The Whitten variety of Hibiscus cannabinus L.,is a good tasting kenaf that has the potential to serve as a food source in many countries.

Kenaf is a plant that has the potential to change the world. It is a very old plant used by mankind. Throughout the Bible you read about sackcloth. Sackcloth is made from kenaf. Only royalty was allowed to wear linen or cotton. The poor grew kenaf, spun it and made their clothes from kenaf. They made ropes and cordage from kenaf.

Many people want to help the environment. Many people are trying to find ways to lower the greenhouse gases that are heating up our world. We worry about the Arctic ice melting and the loss of the polar bear. We are all concerned with the more and more violent weather patterns, the floods, earthquakes and volcanoes erupting. We don’t want to see sea levels rise and inundate our coastal cities. But what can one person do?

Some people have gotten involved with tree planting projects. Tree planting projects are great. They sequester quite a lot of carbon. The problem is, the people who are involved are operating in what I call an incomplete transaction. The people who have tree planting projects get the resources they need and you get the satisfaction of knowing you are doing something good but there is no return for you donation.

What if there were a way to do something really good for the environment, something that sequesters more carbon than trees…and at the same time it offers you a payback? Yes, that’s what I mean. A return on your investment. Sequester carbon, help the environment and earn money at the same time? There is a plant called kenaf that sequesters more carbon than any other species on the Earth. One acre of kenaf sequesters as much carbon as 8 acres of fast growing pine trees.

Kenaf Could Change the World If We All Got Involved In Planting It And Using It. Here’s What Kenaf Can Do:

1. Sequester More Carbon Per Acre Than Any Other Plant

2. Be Food For Humans Anywhere In The World Where There Is Hunger

3. Make Excellent Feed For Livestock including Backyard Fish Ponds

4. The Stalks Can Be Used As Firewood

5. Make Biochar For Fertilizing The Earth Organically

6. Make Beautiful Cloth That Can Be Used For Clothing And Industrial Use

7. Make Biocomposites That Can Be Used For Car Interiors

8. Be Used To Generate Electricity

9. Make A Better Quality Paper Than Pine Trees And Be Ready For Use In 6 Months Instead Of Years

10. Have Seeds That Can Be Made Into Gluten Free Flour

11. Have Seeds That Can Be Made Into A Cosmetic Oil

12. Have Leaves That Make Excellent Potherbs

13. Can Be Cut Back Many Times And When It Regrows It Produces More Food Or Feed

14. Grows Faster Than Just About Any Plant

15. Does Not Use A Lot Of Water – It Grows In Somalia

16. BioChar Made From Kenaf Can Treat Human Wastes And Turn It Into Fertilizer

17. The Inner Core Is Excellent For Animal Bedding Without Dust

18. Many Kinds Of Building Materials Can Be Made From The Bast Fiber

19. The Inner Core Fiber Can Be Made Into A Filler For A Lightweight Cement Block

20. Extracted Kenaf seed oil can be used as a bio-fuel for Diesel engines

This plant could feed people in poor countries. This plant could sequester more carbon everywhere in the world. This plant could provide biological fertilizers. And the plant has so many uses.

We need to build an organization made up of people who want to see less hunger, more firewood, inexpensive homes for poor people in developing countries. The people we seek to connect with are probably doing something green in their lives. They would just like to find a way to make it profitable while being more Green. In other words, having a complete transaction.

There is a need to find people dedicated to planting kenaf and has already developed marketing vehicles for the kenaf fiber and other products. We are actively researching vegetable dyes, making kenaf fabric water repellent with environmentally sound materials. We have plans to make back packs, tote bags, and household items from kenaf. And we are already getting ready to develop our own kenaf handmade paper project in Belize.

We invite you to invest in your kenaf planting as a member of our community.

Kenaf is the environmental entrepreneurship powerhouse with multiple profit centers.

for you. It is not a graduate course in a university. It is a down to earth program.

The climate change is getting worse. But we now have a means to take control of our environmental problems and do something to ameliorate them.

We on this planet are in a battle for our survival as a species. From time to time on this very active planet we have extinction level events (ELE). Most of them are the results of acts of nature. But we are creating our own extinction level event (ELE). When the death rock fell from the sky and wiped out the dinosaurs, they had no warning. They didn’t know what hit them. But our extinction level is happening slowly enough that we can take action. We are sentient, we have our minds and our hands. We can take command of what is happening on our world. What can I do you say? We say, “Plant kenaf.”

We can plant kenaf or invest in someone else planting it. We can stop global warming.

We can create businesses to make money for you and other investors while you help remove carbon from the atmosphere. We can all actively participate in the real war.

It’s time to get our planet back to normal levels of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. One acre of kenaf sequesters as much carbon dioxide as 8 acres of fast growing pine trees.

YOU CAN EVEN DO THIS: Planting a small kenaf plot in your garden can help take carbon dioxide out of the atmosphere and contribute to the battle against global warming. You could use the leaves for high protein greens, and chickens love it, too. Use the seeds for gluten-free flour, and the stalks for dust-free bedding for animals.

Planting one manzana of kenaf in a tropical country, as an investor or as a farmer, could net you thousands of dollars in monetary return, and sequester tons of carbon dioxide, providing you an environmental return.

Kenaf was used for rope and for making sackcloth 6,000 years ago. Its new uses include biocomposites being manufactured for Toyota which plans to make all its car interiors with kenaf.

Kenaf combined with recycled plastic makes an excellent building material as well as raw material for industrial use.

And, at the same time with it high protein content, it can feed the hungry of the world, people and animals.Kenaf can replace tree cutting as it makes tree free paper, can be used for people food as a potherb or gluten free flour, livestock feed, paper, biochar, carbon sequestration, fabric and biocomposites

This ecofriendly plant that has the potential to create a successful green business for you. Grow kenaf in your backyard or in a large plantation.

How to Know If Your Crush is Taken

So you have a huge crush on someone from school and you’re ready to ask them out, but you’re not sure if to do so because well, “they’re perfect, they probably have a boyfriend/girlfriend already.” Surprisingly you’ll find that many of your crushes are probably not taken or will be single soon. 99.9% of the times the person you like likes you back. It’s fact! No, really it is. My professor said so. Always believe your college professors that’s why they studied for years. Anyway, I figured I could tell you a few things that are quite obvious to my eyes to know if your crush is taken or not. I know many of you will probably say, “Dude, just ask them!” Unless you’re an extremely brave-careless, whose nerves never come through when you see her, person go ahead and ask her. Maybe she won’t think you’re weird for asking such a private question. Perhaps you can use this guide before she actually just tells you, “Yes I have a boyfriend.”

The following applies in the scenario where you talk to your crush and she (or he, but I’m using she) knows you and you two talk either at work or school, etc. often.

The Big Picture

Cell Phone Obsession:

It’s 2010 and just about any human being has a cell phone this days. Use your cell phone comprehension to find out if your crush is taken. If a person has a boyfriend or girlfriend they’ll constantly text them, call them, or keep there phone by their side at all times. Now, yes sure the person who they’re texting can be a friend. There’s another way to lock your answer. But first, take note:

– Is your crush constantly texting? Texting too much to the point where she doesn’t even look at you while you’re talking?

– Is your crush always on the phone? Perhaps she’s walking out of class and she immediately reaches for her phone and calls someone. Does she pay attention to you or does she ignore you and sticks her phone to her ear all the way to her car?

A Nosy Wallpaper

Another way of figuring if your crush is taken is by looking at her cell phone wallpaper. Being nosy may not be a good thing, but you don’t have put your face on her cell to find out! It’s bound to happen: You two are talking and she lays her phone down. If you are near each other, which you probably will when you talk, you’ll easily notice. Just glance it at it. Don’t stare at it! Glance. Off the top you’ll notice either:

A) There is a boy around her age or a little older looking

B) There is a boy and herself together, cuddling, or kissing

C) She’s with a girl cheesing hardcore

D) There is a picture of herself making the fish face or throwing the peace sign

Occasionally, there are other rare pictures of her family members, or perhaps a baby that could be hers or her brother. If there is a boy, and he doesn’t look gay, it’s bound to be her man. You can usually tell when it’s her boyfriend or just a friend. If she’s with another girl and they look too friendly, duh they’re friends. If she has a picture of herself, there you have it, she’s in love with herself. All together, many have pictures of their boyfriends/girlfriends on their cell phone wallpaper. Why wouldn’t they?

Listen Wisely

It will happen. You’re both walking to your cars after class and her phone rings. She answers it while you two are walking beside each other. Stay quiet and take notice.

– Can you hear the other person on the line’s voice? Is she a female or male?

– Grasp a few sentences, what are they talking about? “Is dad home? I’m on my way.” ~ “Are you picking me up tonight?” or “Tell Jenny not to eat the left overs!”

– Did she say ‘I love you’ like every other taken person when they hang up the phone with their love?

Know Your Crush

If this is a fairly new crush you’re having, it will be easier to get to know the person right off the bat without feeling like you’re reading their diary. Here are a few things you can do to open a decent conversation that may lead to more details that you wouldn’t expect to know. Depending on her answers you’ll notice a few things in this category too.

– If she’s taken you’ll know right away. Most of the times they’ll mention their boyfriend/girlfriend immediately jumping into a semi-personal conversation. “One time my boyfriend…”

– Does she mention one person a lot?

– Does she tell you about friends in general? Or perhaps she keeps mentioning “this one friend” over and over again.

If you two get along fairly well you can initiate a semi-personal conversation innocently by asking a start off questions such as: “So what are you majoring in?” which most of the times escalate to “Oh really? So you live near by?” & then “You graduated from what school?” It pretty much always leads to her talking about her high school friends, or how she was in the Highschool basketball team, etc. etc. Eventually, trust me, she’ll feel comfortable enough to ask you questions that will allow you to ask them back. “What did you do last summer?” – “Last summer I went to LA with my ex-girlfriend, what did you do?”

How to know if your crush likes you back?

Well, this is another topic. Rest assure, if your crush doesn’t mind being around you, talking to you, or perhaps she waits for you after class to walk you to your car. You can safely say she likes you;). Whether she likes you, likes you, I don’t know. You’ll have to figure that one on your own buddy. The key is to notice! Many of the times your crush will follow you after leaving class if you don’t wait for her.

Want to Increase the Value of Your Home? Install a Sump Pump!

If you’re looking for simple ways to increase the value of your home, a sump pump is a great place to start. Why? They help keep the lower levels of your home — whether it is a basement or crawl space – dry throughout the year.

Keep the Basement Dry

By keeping the basement dry, a sump pump provides a safe and livable space for you and your family to enjoy. You may even wish to transform your dry basement into a spare bedroom, home office, game room, or home theatre. But you must first install a reliable sump pump system. After all, no one wants to sleep, work, play games, or watch movies in a damp, moldy space.

So how does a sump pump operate?

When excess water accumulates in your basement or crawl space, a sump pump will collect and pump the water outdoors, keeping the inside of your home dry. Like anything with movable parts, a these pumps should be routinely checked to ensure that it is working properly and efficiently. A clogged pump or one with a dead battery or loose cables doesn’t do a whole lot of good. Experts recommend getting your pump inspected at least once a year.

A Battery Backup

Some homeowners already have a sump pump, but it might be finicky and occasionally fail for no reason. Or perhaps their current one runs like a charm, but when they lose power, they lose their pump as well. And what if you go on vacation, and, while you’re gone, your home is hit with heavy flooding that your primary pump just can’t handle? In cases like these, a Battery Backup pumps can save the day. With a Battery Backup sump pump, you can stay protected 24-7, even during the worst storms, heaviest floods, or when your primary pump fails to turn on or simply isn’t doing the job. A Battery Backup pump also includes a charging system that will recharge the battery once power has been restored.

A Basement Floor Drain

If you happen to experience a plumbing leak, a basement floor drain can help. By expelling water downwards and preventing moist air from rising into the basement, a basement floor drain offers maximum waterproofing protection.

Many top-of-the-line pumps, come with a built-in floor drain. They also come with an airtight cover that keeps moisture, odors, and even radon from rising upwards into the basement. The airtight cover also helps to quiet noise created by the pump, and acts as a safeguard to protect small children from an otherwise open sump hole. And finally, with a WaterWatch sump pump alarm, you will be alerted immediately if water rises above the point where it should have turned on.

With the proper sump pump system, you can ensure — without a shadow of a doubt — that the lower levels of your home are dry, safe, and livable. And as previously mentioned, a dry basement can be used in a number of ways, and ultimately increase the value of your home!

Women Bodybuilders Diet – The Key to a Lean Healthy Womanly Form

Young or old, there’s no limit to what the modern woman can do when she sets her mind to it – whether it’s getting to the top in her profession of choice or undergoing women bodybuilders diet plans. Women nowadays are much more enlightened on the idea of self-betterment and a holistic personal development, which is why more and more females seem to be entering training programs aimed at building their bodies into leaner, fitter examples of the healthy, urban female.

Why the Need for a Diet?

In order for any woman to successfully build muscle mass, you have to understand that it takes a combination of a healthy women bodybuilders diet and training sessions. You can’t expect to suddenly get sculpted abs and well-defined arms and legs by exercising alone, or simply eating right. Women have much less testosterone than men, the hormone that builds muscles, which is why a good diet is important in order for a female to achieve the best results.

In addition, once you start training, your body needs constant nutrition for it to cope with muscle growth, renew the energy that you lose in your activities and encourage faster metabolism. If you don’t eat right and insist on gorging yourself on candy bars and instant mac and cheese, you’ll not only end up all frustrated about why you’re not building any muscle, you’re likely to get a bit chubbier too.

What Should Be in a Diet?

Because of the many diet fads out there aimed at helping women slim down, “diet” has become associated with starving yourself and avoiding practically everything on the food pyramid. But for a women bodybuilders diet, it’s the exact opposite. Since your goal is to bulk up and not trim down, the requirements are a lot different. It means more meals at more frequent intervals that contain higher levels of protein, carbohydrates, and a lot of water.

The average woman eats around .25 – .5 grams of protein per pound of body weight. The female bodybuilder should take in from 1.5 – 2 grams of protein per body weight daily, which is something like 40% of each meal. Excellent sources of protein are pork tenderloin, eggs, tuna, skinless chicken breast, rib-eye steaks, lean ground beef, fish and shrimp, and low-fat dairy foods like ricotta or cottage cheese and plain yogurt. Carbohydrates and healthy fats are necessary to maintain a balanced women bodybuilders diet, so whole grains, vegetables, fruits, unsaturated and natural oils like olive or sunflower oils will aid in hormone production, vitamin absorption and will keep your skin and hair in good condition.

Constant water intake is a must in bodybuilding as well. Being hydrated helps replenish lost energy, repairs muscles better, keeps you full so you don’t always crave for sweet and salty foods, helps your body keep up with muscle growth and flushes out toxins efficiently.

Finally, to get the most out of the bodybuilding experience, try to find a good fitness program that will assist you in getting your ideal body weight and shape. These professionals will be able to give you tips on your women bodybuilders diet and can monitor your progress so that you stay disciplined and focused on your goals!
