Advantages of Owning a Conference Bridge

If you and your business frequently require conference calls to coordinate clients, freelancers, agents, or offices around town or around the world, then having access to an audio conference bridge can save you both time and effort in connecting all of the individuals in your conference call together. There are a number of companies and service providers who will schedule and manage your conference calls for a price, but if you are regularly having to use these services then you might want to consider purchasing your own conference bridge so that all conference call planning and coordination can take place in-house. Of course, before you decide to purchase a conference bridge for your company it's important that you realize exactly what a conference bridge is and how it can assist your business so that you'll know what to look for when it's time to buy your own.

What a Conference Bridge Is

In order to choose the conference bridge that best fills the needs of your business, it's important that you understand exactly what a conference bridge is and what purpose it serves in your conference calls. Traditionally, conference calls were made by a single instigator contacting all of the participants in what was essentially an expanded version of three-way calling. The conference bridge was developed to eliminate this time consuming and (in the case of long-distance calls) costly process. The bridge serves as a hub for several callers to connect to via a specific telephone number and security code so that instead of a single user contacting all of the participants the participants can all connect themselves to the conference. A number of conference bridges also have advanced features including scheduling software integrated into the unit and an autodialer that can be programmed to automatically contact all of the conference participants at the same time.

How a Conference Bridge Can Help You

By utilizing a conference bridge for calls, companies can save time in getting everyone connected and get right to the heart of the business at hand. A bridge featuring a scheduler and autodialer can increase this productivity even more by organizing conference calls across multiple time zones if necessary and automatically contacting the various offices, agents, and clients who are scheduled to take part in the call. This can be especially useful for those businesses who regularly conference with clients, as it saves the client the trouble of dialing in to the bridge and eliminates any potential long distance charges that the client might otherwise incur.

Owning Your Own Conference Bridge

While there are a number of service providers who will organize multi-party calls via a conference bridge, if your business regularly has the need of these services then you will be able to save money in the long run by purchasing your own conference bridge and scheduling the calls in-house. Of course, it's important that you shop around and compare the various options which are available to you in order to find the bridge that will best meet the needs of your company at a price that is not excessive. Consider the size of your company's average conference calls and whether the participants are branch offices, freelancers and agents, or clients; this will help you to determine the number of connections that your bridge will need to be able to handle as well as if you would be better served with a basic bridge that users can call in to or if you should instead purchase one with autodialer features and scheduling software. You may also wish to make sure that the bridge you are considering is compatible with both standard public telephone systems and Voice over Internet Protocol systems, as VOIP systems are becoming much more common in business and you'll want to make sure that the bridge you purchase will be useful to you in the long term.

How to Tell The Difference Between a Real and Fake Route 66 Sign

Summer is here and many of us want to hit the road for vacation and what comes to mind is the famous 'Mother Road' or Route 66.

While Route 66 was deactivated in favor of Interstate 40 back in the early 70's portions of the Road still exist, some in large sections which run parallel to the modern Highway.

After a cross-country trip, why not a sign to help remember your vacation?

If you check out eBay you will see a large number of 'Authentic Route 66 Signs', when in reality few of these if any are real. Most are made from original molds and recast in tin or steel.

So, a few things to look for. We've all seen modern Highway signs and they are rather large. most 24 x 24. If you see an 'Authentic' Route 66 sign smaller than that, chances are it's fake.

Some of the signs were smaller however, but they were the shield type from the 30's and made of heavy gauge steel, and very few of those survived and if they were in collections.

When you find a sign that's 24×24 look at it. Is it weathered? Nicked? A sign post 'shadow' on the back from years of sitting outside? Also look around the mounting holes. Road Crews were rough with these signs as treating them like a collectible was the farthest thing from their mind.

The mounting holes should show signs of chips, and scrapes where the bolts that held the sign in place were installed and removed.

Do not let the reflective paint fool you, some signs had it, others did not.

When you look at the sign and the back, look at the edges, are they worn and dirty or shiny metal?

Other factors like stains, drip marks should run downwards, this is especially important on the Kansas Sunflower signs. There are many out there but they are a Highway 99 turned upside down. Keep in mind Route 66 ran only 2.3 miles, so while Kansas signs do exist they are rare.

So, if you can not inspect the sign in person, ask the seller to show you the back or the edges and close up of the mounting holes.

Sometimes people will sell 'NOS' which is New Old Stock, but do not be fooled, finding a stash of Route 66 Sign in a deserted Highway Department sign shop does not happen anymore.

All of the above tips apply to most signs, some of the signs were mounted on the big green boards above overpasses and may not have a lot of signs of wear and tear but with age, and the elements the aluminum backs should have a cloudy type appearance.

If you come across an authentic sign be prepared to spend some money, most however can be between $ 300 to $ 1000 dollars and competition on eBay can be fierce.

In my next article, I will go over how to Spot a fake Route 66 reflector sign.

Mosaic Patio Furniture – Ancient Designs Are Popular Once Again

Every year the manufacturers of outdoor furniture find new ways to bring something unique to market. They do this by growing their collections and / or maybe just borrowing ideas from history. When it comes to borrowing from history a case in point is the currently popular mosaic tiled furniture.

The art of mosaic dates back 4000 years and is done by creating images or design with small pieces of colored glass, pottery, stone or some other material. Mosaic floors have been found in the ruins of 4th century Roman dwellings as well as the wall of ancient chapels.

History Repeats Itself

Fast forward to 2009 where consumers can now choose from a highly diverse selection of mosaic tiled outdoor furnishings. Look for more choices in patio dining tables, bistro table fire pits and bakers racks. These items are popular because each one is handcrafted and no two pieces are exactly the same. Mosaic pieces also make terrific focal points because of the unique patterning.

Beautiful Designs

For outdoor living, many of the mosaic table tops use glass and travertine tiles. The glass used is generally stained glass that gets molded to a smooth finish. Tumbled marble and stones are also used in mosaic tables. The exquisite surface designs and patterns vary greatly from geometric style patterning to themes such as: hummingbird, laurel leaf, dragonfly, jardin, Morocco and many more. Other patio items that include mosaic craftsmanship include kid's chairs, accent tables, umbrella bases, and fire pits.

Because mosaic tiled surfaces are crafted by hand they are compared to other materials, fragile. This is not to say that you can not feel comfortable using the surface freely but during the off-season, take precautions and store your furnishings indoors: especially in freezing winter weather.

How to Make Gray and Brown Paint Using Primary Colors

This title was presented by the Editors as a challenge, so how could a painter resist it? My first reaction was to wonder why anyone would bother, when more subtle and compatible neutrals can be achieved in other ways. I could visualise how it might be done but I had not tried it in reality. So, still in my night-dress, I slipped out to the studio early this morning and experimented. See what you think of my results, below.

And for those readers who are taking the first steps on their journey towards becoming an artist, I will add some definitions as we go along.

  • So, What is a Neutral Hue?

Neutral hues: The Neutrals can be crudely classed as Grays or Browns. In experienced hands, they are a number of extremely subtle blends of the colours used throughout a painting. They can, however, be made by mixing the three Primaries. Here’s how:

1) Making Grays

The simplest way to achieve Gray from mixing the three Primaries is this: Blend equal parts of Blue and Red, resulting in a crude Purple. Into that mix add small portions of Yellow until a dark Gray appears. To lighten its Chroma* you can – very carefully – add small quantities of White.

*What is Chroma?

This value refers to the darkness or lightness of a colour.

2) Making Browns

Blend equal parts of Blue and Yellow, resulting in a crude Green. Into that mix add small portions of Red until you achieve a suitable Brown. For example, you may want a Brown of less intensity or Chroma for your current painting.

It might seem obvious to add White to your new Brown mix. But this would be a huge mistake. Instead, add more Yellow.

  • How to Avoid Making Mud

All of this mixing should take place on your palette, using a palette knife. This is the one and only way to achieve ‘clean’ colour mixes, vital when you are using Gray or Brown. In the excitement of creating a new painting, it is fatally easy to reach for a brush and start mixing colour straight onto your canvas. Despite what you see in Hollywood movies about famous artists, you can never get all the pigment out of the bristles by wiping your brush on a rag or by rinsing it in turps. The residue of colour will end up in the new mixes and turn them into mud.

TIP. I urge you to get into the habit of using your brushes for laying on the paint, never for mixing it.

  • Other ways to make Neutrals

You can make far more subtle Neutrals from the colours you are using in your current painting. For example, if you are painting a landscape with storm clouds above, you have likely used Cobalt Blue mixed with White in the sky background. If you wish to make a Gray to define those clouds further, you can do this:

  • Take some of your Cobalt Blue, mix it with its Complement* – Burnt Sienna – and you will get a subtle gray tone that you can vary by mixing in some White.

*What is a Complement?

This is the colour which is opposite the Dominant* Hue on the Colour Wheel. For example, the Complement – or opposite – of Blue-Purple is Yellow-Green.

*What is a Dominant Hue?

You’ve guessed this one, right? It is the colour or Hue used most extensively in the painting you’re working on. So, if your painting is a portrait and you need to enhance the subject’s hair colour with a dark but neutral Brown, try this:

  • Mix the Red earth, such as Burnt Sienna – that you have already used for skin-tones in your portrait painting – with Ultramarine Blue to make a deep but neutral Brown.

When you want to make Neutrals, either from the Primaries or in other ways, experimenting is the only way to find the mixtures best suited to your personal style and chosen subject matter. A bonus is the fun you’ll have doing it.(C)Dorothy Gauvin

Where Are Colored Chandeliers Appropriate?

Chandeliers serve as prominent and elegant decor centerpieces at home. Even when unlit, the modern chandelier serves as a highly-prized lighting ornament, adding to the beauty of the room it hangs in. This is because modern chandeliers are made with a lot of care, and a lot of attention is given to detail.

A chandelier most often becomes the focal point of the room, so crafting intricate designs and ensuring excellent craftsmanship is needed to fashion out lighting fixtures that are pleasing to the eyes. Modern chandeliers are made in various shapes and sizes, and from different materials. Metal chandeliers made of wrought iron are very popular and have a wide share of the market. Glass chandeliers are available across a wide price range.

Small delicate ones that can add an element of style to even a small room, to elaborately designed intricate crystal ones, glass chandeliers offer a range of variety. Many new designs today offer different color schemes, such as blue, sea-green, silver, violet, and many more. Colored chandeliers these days have a modern, enhanced look, however these lighting pieces still manage to retain their old-world charm.

Many Colored Chandelier Designs Are Available today

A whole range of slim, trim and polished glass, steel, and other materials are available for modern homes. Chandeliers like these are specifically designed for modern homes with clean cut furniture and blend in with the décor. There are no defining boundaries for the designs of modern colored chandeliers.

A prominent European lighting design company has come out with designs as diverse milk bottle chandeliers that have just one light bulb to elaborate ones with 85 light bulbs. Sleek designs are considered the hallmark of modern chandeliers, as well as the colored ones. Sleek designs ensure easy cleaning and maintenance. This would fit quite well with the modern, fast-paced lifestyles of many individuals today, as less maintenance makes modern chandeliers sound like a more sensible option.

Appropriate Locations For Colored Chandeliers

Since exquisite lighting pieces like chandeliers make beautiful home decor fixtures, even small or large they seem. With its warm, dimmed and dazzling glow, they may not be even fitting for rooms like libraries, where good lighting is needed. These are considered more fitting in dining rooms, living rooms, foyers, and other places where people gather to converse and relax. If you have a colored chandelier in a room, ensure that there is a primary light source to complement the subdued light emanating from the chandelier.

A Colored Chandelier Should Blend With The Room's Furnishings

Buying colored crystal chandeliers is seen as a sound investment option, and a worthy furnishing to view and gawk at. In order to prevent excess glare, try purchasing a chandelier that is equipped with mini-shades, as well as an electronic dimmer. If the fixture does not have one, try adding tiny shades to bare candle-type lighting. Since a chandelier is a decorative room fixture and not functional lighting equipment, do allow other lighting in the room to supplement its dimmed glow.

Choose a color that will perfectly blend and mesh well with a room's ambiance, style and color patterns. It also has to enhance the existing furnishing that's present in the room. However, if an elaborate and ornate chandelier would stick out in the room, consider something that looks more reserved so that the lighting fixture can be appreciated more for its elegant and radiating glow.

Where Did Hot Tubs Come From?

Many people all over the world enjoy the luxury of having a hot tub. Those who live in the colder climates are especially thankful for this invention. The warmth makes the spa more welcoming, enjoyable and satisfying. For those with a lot of tension and stress, a good long soak will do a body good. A person could easily let all of his or her worries drain away while enjoying the not-to-hot and bubbling water. So where did this wondrous invention come from and how did it become the hot tub we all know and love today?

The history of the hot tubs is definitely traceable. They came around with the Romans and their bathhouses, which came around when people discovered the wonders of hot springs. Hot springs were known not only for relaxation but for the therapeutic uses as well. Hot springs are natural to the Earth but can only be found in certain places. Hot springs are only usually found in places where there is volcanic activity. Before the hot tub was invented not man people enjoyed the thought of living near these areas just for a warm bath so nice warm baths were not available to everyone.

The earliest spas have been traced all the way back to around 2000 BC Around this time the ancient Egyptians were already enjoying such a luxury of a warm bath and the benefits gained from soaking in the hot water. Around 600 BC a king from Persia, the King of Media was said to have the first hot tub built. Around the same time the Greek philosophers, Plato, Hippocrates, and others were also discovering the therapeutic uses of water. Because of this discovery, the Greeks began building bathing houses near hot springs.

Within the Chinese and Japanese cultures people were also influenced by the healing powers of water. A saying came about in Japan in relation to a tranquil state that could have been accomplished by a person's spirit since it gives them a sensation of opposition that is passive in nature. This saying was called Mizu – no – Kokoro or Mind Like Water. Therefore, someone who accomplishes Mind Like Water will have harmony in all things that surround him or her. This idea is what birthed the idea of hot tubs in Asia. This began the building of bathing houses near hot springs in Japan and China.

For the Roman Empire, the bathhouse was made of a stone chamber along with a temple. As with all the other cultures, these hot tubs were built near hot springs. In the late 16th century Queen Elizabeth was told to bathe in, England's mineral waters. Then in the 20th century, the hot tub was beginning to take the shape of what it is today. Today's modern spot tubs are made mostly out of ceramic material, fiberglass or concrete pool like structures. They have certainly come a long way in the last 4000 years and is still a very popular luxury. Many people even prefer to have a hot tub rather than a pool.

Introduction to Elevator Shoes

What are Elevator Shoes?
Elevator shoes are also known as height increasing shoes, lift shoes or tall shoes. They are specifically designed to invisibly increase the height of the wearer. The basic idea is to put thick insoles (lifts), so that the wearer can get taller. (See "Inside Elevator Shoes" for more information.) Elevator shoes look normal from outside. Well designed elevator shoes are as comfortable as normal. It may take several days for wears to get used to it. Normally, elevator shoes increase 2.5-4 inches in height. There are 5 inches extra-height ones, but it will loose comfort and is more noticeable.

History of Elevator Shoes

You may raise the question "Who invented elevator shoes?" The history can be chased back to early 1500s when cowboy boots came out in Spain. Since 1700s, men's footwear with Cuban heel became popular along with a brief resurgence in high-heeled shoes for men. [1]

In modern life, people are more concerned about health. People with flatfoot feel uncomfortable when they wear normal shoes. Some of them try to put soft insoles inside shoes to make to more comfortable. Also, orthopedic doctors sometimes recommend use thick insoles to help patient increase height. Later on, this kind of thick soft insoles became a shared secret within a particular group of people. Shoes manufactures started to design special shoes with thick insoles and keep the normal look and comfort. They call it "Elevator Shoes" or "Height Increasing Shoes".

In the past, height shoes are only for men but in late 1990s, women's elevator shoes came out. Although women can wear high-heel shoes or platform shoes to increase height, some women do not want to show people they wear high-heels. Women's height shoes usually come with flat, low or middle heels with a thick insole.

Inside Elevator Shoes
It seems simple to put thick insoles inside shoes but it's not that easy to keep it comfortable and look normal. All the components need to be re-designed to achieve this goal.
A pair of tall shoes consists four parts:

The upper needs to be designed to accommodate the thick insole. There is more slope between the face and the post. Also, the post curve is higher than normal shoes.

This is the magic part to increase height. It can be made from plastic, cork, or foam. The front part is lower than the back part. There are different designs in the slope and curve to fit different feet.

Because insole is usually made with soft and expensive material, it is easy to be worn out. The mid-sole provide some level of buffer between insole and outer-insole. It follows the deterioration of your insole and provides aeration.

The outer-insole helps keep the wearer from feeling uncomfortable and allows a natural instep. The natural rubber heels can be replaced by an ordinary heel.

Although the components of height shoes are different from normal, it looks just the same when they are assembled.

It is noteworthy that tall shoes and shoe lifts are different. Shoe lifts are separated thick insoles that can be inserted into any shoes. The disadvantages of lifts are that they need to be replaced every few months (due to hygienic reasons), they may be uncomfortable, and the larger-sized lifts may not fit in smaller sizes. [2]

Who is Suitable to Wear Elevator Shoes?
As we all know, there is no effective way for adult to naturally grow taller. Elevator shoes are designed for people who want to be taller effectively. They are for men and women, though women's are not popular. Also, if you are flatfoot, you should give it a try because most people with flatfoot feel more comfortable when wearing elevator shoes.

You can choose height shoes for long term wear or just for a special occasion. Some people choose to wear it for long term because they get used to it and they like the feeling of being taller. In some occasions such as wedding, it is important for a man to be taller, especially taller than "her". People choose elevator shoes in these situations. Most people feel normal when they wearing height shoes but to other people, the wearer looks taller and more confident.

Who are Wearing Elevator Shoes?
You may not notice, but actually many people around us wear tall shoes including some famous men. For example, French President Nicholas Sarkozy, famous movie star Tom Cruise and famous venture capitalist Aviv Nevo. Over 1,000,000 elevator shoes are sold every year!

Wood Burning Stoves

There are many different terms for different types of stoves, firstly when talking about Wood Burning Stoves, Log Burners or Wood Burners that often refer to stoves as a collective term including stoves that burn wood, coal and / or smokeless fuel.

Wood Burning Stoves is the most common term used when referring to stoves, however this term does not necessarily indicate that a stove can only burn wood, most modern stoves are multifuel. Picking a stylish stove can transform your living space. Whether you live in a compact urban bolthole or a cozy country cottage, both traditional and contemporary stoves work equally well in either.

Stoves that only burn wood are usually referred to as Wood Burning Only Stoves; these stoves will have a different grape enabling a combustion cycle that better suits the burning of wood, increasing the stove's efficiency. When burning wood the airflow should run over the top of the fuel, with the fuel sitting in a bed of ash.

Lighting a Wood Burning Stove can be a tricky task, some people get frustrated when lighting their stove. However, if you follow expert advice, your stove will be roaring in no time.

The best way to get your Wood Burning Stove roaring is to scrunch up or tie in knots 8-10 large sheets of newspaper and place these on the bed of the combustion chamber.

On top of the paper place a handy of dry twigs or kindling wood and light the newspaper.

As the twigs / kindling wood take light, add more to the flames creating a small bonfire. As soon as they begin to burn, add a few dry seasoned logs to the stove, angle the logs so that the flames are hitting the angles of them. Make sure you do not suffocate the fire, if you start to see a build up of smoke, you have suffocated the fire.

Finally, close the door / doors of the stove, maintaining a 1 inch gap. This gap will create a rush of air to be drawn from the room, into the stove and up the chimney. If you have suffocated the fire, this will clear the smoke and get the fire going. Leave the door cracked like this for 10-15 minutes, or until you see appropriate.

A modern Wood Burning Stove can run at over 80% efficiency, so putting your logs in a stove rather than on a fire means you will benefit from at least three times the amount of heat.

What to Cook

Your favorite traditional recipes can be adapted easily by reducing the amount of liquid and increasing the cooking time. You can also roast in your slow cooker.

You can use beef, lamb, veal, pork and poultry and you do not have to buy the most expensive cuts. Slow cooking allows less tender cuts of meat to be used. They will become succulent and tender after being cooked slowly for hours.

How to Store Food

Dehydrated food is when water is slowly taken out of food. Certain methods for this include air-drying, sun-drying, and kiln drying. You are probably most familiar with sun drying tomatoes since this is a very popular and flavorful food item. This is a very inexpensive and compact way to store food. I also think I keeps a really naturally and delicious flavor. With that understood we can get into how store food.

  1. Dehydrate foods of choice. One finding rule in food storage is to "store what you eat, and eat what you store." Dehydrate the foods you love. There is no need to waste time with foods you and your family do not eat. Love your food storage choices.
  2. Ration your food into smaller portions. If you ration into larger portions you will either A) never eat small portions of your food storage and will only use it when you are feeding a lot of people or B) you will be wasting your dehydrated food every time you open a container. It also decrees risk of contamination.
  3. Place dehydrated food in an airtight container. A sealed container is very important. Do not keep in plastic bags or containers with loose lids. Never use trash can liners, these are dangerous because they usually have pesticides in them. Place an oxygen absorbber inside. These will take out all oxygen and leave behind all the nitrogen. Nitrogen is an inert gas that very effectively eliminates oxygen. Oxygen will speed up its expiration date.
  4. Label each container with its expiration date on a piece of tape so that you can reuse your containers. Dried fruits and herbs can last up to a year. Dried vegetables and meats can last up to six months. If you keep your dehydrated foods in the freezer they can last much longer.
  5. Find a cool, dark and dry place to store your dehydrated foods. Ideal temperature is 60 degrees Fahrenheit. Temperature places the largest role in how long your dehydrated food will last. Avoid open piping, uninsulated rooms and furnaces. Avoid any direct sunlight. And avoid damp places such as near a swamp cooler. Any temperature over 75 degrees Fahrenheit will spoil faster. Also avoid freezing temperatures.
  6. Do not place too high. During an earthquake these items will fall and seals may be broken. Look into using # 10 containers which are recommended by preparedness companies. Other good options include sealable food storage buckets and sealable food quality metal or plastic drums.
  7. If you have dehydrated foods that are in a containers that have been opened you should keep these in a refrigerator or a freezer.
  8. Organize your dehydrated food by expiration date from newest in the back to oldest in the front. This way you can cycle through your food efficiently without wasting. Organization is very useful in your food storage process.
  9. Inspect your food before eating. Throw away any food you find mold on. If you find condensation inside your containers immediately dehydrate again. Condensation will not allow your food to keep very long.

The Plank Exercise – Secret to Building Core Strength

The plank exercise has been around for a long time, yet I still do not see enough people doing it. Instead, the gym is crowded with people doing endless crunches. Performing crunches can cause terrible damage to your spell. As you flex and extend your spine you place great stress on the column column.

Not only are crunches unsafe, but they are ineffective.

I'm going to reveal a little secret here. A strong core is not built by performing endless crunches. Your secret weapon to getting a powerful and stable core is the plank exercise.

The plank is the most effective isometric exercise that helps you build endurance and strength in your core.

Here's how to perform a proper plank. Lie face-down on a mat and raise yourself up onto your toes and elbows. Keep your back flat and keep your body in a straight line. Make sure to contract your abdominal region to ensure your body does not drop. Your goal is to hold this position for as long as you can.

Here's a little trick to help you out. Try to pull your belly button towards your spell. This will help you engage the deep abdominal muscles and will help support your back.

If you have not performed a plank before, you'll notice the lack of strength and stabilization in your core as your body starts to shake. You will not be able to hold the position for long but as you keep practicing you'll notice drastic improvement. As your core strength improves, you will be able to hold the position for longer periods.

If you're really struggling at the start, do a modified plank instead where instead of balancing on your toes, you balance on your knees. Progressively work your way up to a regular plank.

Once you have mastered the plank exercise, there are a few variations you can incorporated into your workout.

Try the side plank, arm and leg lift planks, and planks on bosu balls and swiss balls. There are endless variations that will help you build a strong core.

The plank exercise is your secret weapon. Go and use it!
