Lift Your Way to Freedom With a Stair Chair Lift

A stair chair  lift  is a fantastic solution for people with mobility and accessibility issues. It allows them to get back their freedom that they once enjoyed within their home. A stair chair  lift  can also prevent accidental falls and wear and tear on joints already worn from arthritis.

When looking for a  lift , you’ll need to first evaluate your needs. The most important thing to consider is the spatial limitation, if any, within your home. There’s a variety of different  lifts  available including ones that are even designed for use on a spiral staircase! Most  lifts  are designed with a small footprint that will fit nearly any stair case, but make sure you let the dealer you choose know what size area you are working with to ensure you get the best possible solution.

There’s also other important considerations such as weight limitations. Depending on which one you choose, a stair chair  lift  can have a variety of different weight capacities and can accommodate higher weight levels.

You’ll also want to make sure that the one you choose ensures a smooth ride as well as a gentle stop– no one wants to vibrate all the way up even a small stair case and come to an abrupt halt! The remote control on the chair also makes it easy to operate. In addition, you can even opt to have additional controls installed at the bottom or top of the landings– or even both– just in case you want to send something up or down the stairs “unmanned”! Most stair chair  lifts  have a safety feature where you can render the controls inoperable to insure that little children don’t get accidentally injured.

Another useful feature are wrap around arms that come standard with most any stair chair  lift  on the market. These help provide additional stability during your ride. Another feature that is normally standard is a rotating seat. While the  lift  is in operation, the seat locks. But once the  lift  is stationary, the seat rotates anywhere from 90-180 degrees so that you or your loved one is able to enter or exit with ease.

Most any stair chair  lift  will operate on standard household current which eliminates the need and cost for home rewiring. In addition, any stair chair  lift  you choose will have a battery backup in the event that there is a power failure you or your loved one won’t get stuck in the middle of your ascent or descent.

Purchasing and having a stair chair  lift  installed can help you or the ones you love regain their independence. With proper planning and information, locating and choosing the right stair chair  lift  can be a breeze. With all of the available options, you are sure to find one that will suit your needs!

Buying a Private Number Plate

However in today’s motoring world the popularity of personal number  plates  has moved into the fast lane with ever more of them being spotted on our roads. Private number  plates  are being enjoyed by people from all walks of life and give their owners vehicles a truly unique and distinctive mark.

There are millions of private number  plates  to choose from so finding one to suit you will not be hard. For some inspiration you can search your name or birthday or for a cost effective solution why not try and find your initials? Search over 30 million UK private registrations at [http://www.capeplates.co.uk/private_number_ plates /] to find which number  plates  relate to you. When purchasing your new car registration number you will need to provide what is known as a nominee name. This is the name that appears in the V5 logbook for the vehicle the number will be assigned to. If you are purchasing a personal car registration as a gift be sure to check this name is correct when ordering.

There are certain things to bear in mind when choosing your own private number  plate  however the main question you must ask yourself is can the personal number  plate  go on your vehicle? The law states that a vehicle can be made to look older than it is but can never appear newer. For example, if you own a “55” reg car you could assign a “51” reg number  plate  or even a prefix or suffix registration such as a “P” reg however you could not assign a newer “56” registration number to your car. Private number  plates  can also be assigned to motorbikes, providing they follow this golden rule. Search over 30 million UK private registrations at [http://www.capeplates.co.uk/private_number_ plates /] to find the right number  plate  for you.

When you purchase a private number  plate  an £80 transfer fee must be paid. This money is a fix fee set by the DVLA to cover the cost and administration of assigning the number  plate  to your vehicle. This fee is also payable if you decide to transfer the registration from vehicle to vehicle. The current fee for putting a registration number on retention is £105 which is made up of the £80 assignment fee and £25 retention fee. The retention facility enables a registration number to be taken off a vehicle and held on a certificate pending assignment at a later date. Private number  plates  can be held indefinitely on certificates but must be renewed annually for £25.

Assigning you new number  plate  to your vehicle couldn’t be simpler and full instructions will be found on the reverse of you registrations certificate of entitlement. Applications can be made by post however a better option is to apply in person at your local DVLA where the transfer is completed as you wait. You will need you V5 Logbook, a photocopy of your tax disc and a copy of your MOT if applicable when assigning your registration and in return you will receive an updated tax disc and MOT (if applicable) showing your new registration number. An updated V5 log book will be sent later from DVLA Swansea. All that would be left to do is have your acrylic number  plates  produced and fix them to your vehicle. You are then ready to display you new number  plate  with pride!

Wood Burning Stove

A wood burning  stove  is a heating appliance capable of burning both wood fuel and wood-derived biomass fuel. It can add more than just comfort to any home, as well as a sense of style and grace. The pure warmth of a wood burning  stove  makes a welcome addition to many homes.

There are many different wood burning  stoves  around these days so I’m sure you are able to find one to bring style and warmth to your home. With comfort, convenience and style, you can find the right one to help heat your home on colder winter days.

Not knowing what the weather decides to do this winter may get your mind thinking of how a wood burning  stove  may come in handy to you. Having one will make you prepared for whatever the winter may bring, making it comfier for you and your family to enjoy cold nights. An advantage of these  stoves  is they don’t need to be plugged in or generate off electricity, therefore if you have a power cut or the electricity goes for any reason in your home the wood burning  stove  will still be beaming away in the background. Also not having the cost of electricity or gas, not only is it convenient but also inexpensive.

The comfortable heat these  stoves  provide allows you and your family to enjoy a cold wintry night at home with each other nice and warm. You have full control of the amount of heat given off the  stove  with the air control built into the wood burning  stove , so if you feel like the  stove  is serving its purpose and the room starts to get a little too warm, it can easily be controlled. The  stove  provides efficient heat, this is because it is not an open flame, and the fire is enclosed in the fire chamber.

As we know radiators are not the prettiest looking things, they are big and sometimes in the way. Also heat from radiators can be blocked from furniture such as sofas and chairs, this traps heat and the room doesn’t feel as warm. This may lead some people in newer houses to have underfloor heating fitted, even though this is a very efficient way of heating the room, it may not be convenient for everyone, where the wood burning  stoves  are suitable for everybody.

When putting heating together with style, it may not always be possible. However, there are many choices of wood burning  stoves  when it comes to style available to you. One type of  stove  available to you is a free standing  stove ; this allows you to place the  stove  literally anywhere in your home. If you chose to go for a free standing wood burning  stove , you can choose from a variety of styles to find the one that best fits the area of your home, but mainly helps you stay warm throughout the winter.

So, in conclusion a wood burning  stove  may be what you’re looking for, with no hassle as to whether the electricity is going to go, all you need is the purchase of fuel to keep you warm, and if you have this then there is no inconvenience. The heat that these  stoves  provide will bring comfort to your family home, when it is wet and windy outside, it will sure be warm and welcoming inside!

The Hidden Agenda and a Plank of Wood

My daughter arrived from England yesterday, as she put it “to rescue me”, If you have been following my articles, you will know I fractured my leg, tripping whilst walking. I think also 20 degrees sunshine were calling her from the depths of an English winter. We had a good morning catching up with news but she was determined to get me out of the house and push me around in a wheelchair.

I couldn’t see this working at all; so after lunch I was bundled in the car, where I intended to stay whilst my partner showed her the delights of our favourite beach. It was decided I would be pushed along the walkway to a café, when Charlie, my daughter disappeared onto the beach, returning triumphantly with a battered plank washed in by the tide. This was inserted under my leg, splinters included and we went on our way to the café with my leg protruding in front of me supported in a fashion, on this battered plank. Not a pretty sight!

Despite the wobbly journey we thankfully made it and spent a while sipping drinks and eating olives and admiring a magnificent sea view. The plank was carefully stowed in the car and now has to be covered with a blanket to make it more suitable for future trips. My daughter has been determined to find a leg support from the moment she arrived.

Are you that determined to follow through your plans? I think it might me a bit of a family trait, as I too achieve what I set out to do. A few years ago I decided to set up an online business, and winter in the sun. I am now doing both.

If working online, and working at home wherever that may be, is a long-held dream, you can do it. To make it simple for yourself work with the guidance of a mentor, providing products, sales pages and training, it is quicker and easier that way and saves you sourcing products, building websites and learning marketing before you see orders arriving. With the help of a mentor you can start earning whilst you are learning the techniques necessary.

It takes a while to build a regular income but meanwhile you have an exciting hobby and a source of some extra cash; all businesses take time to grow. So make 2016 a year to remember!

Top Ten Reasons to Plan Your Estate

10. Make sure it goes to whom you want, when you want, the way you want. Most estate plans, be they wills or trusts, leave the assets to the next generation outright (i.e., in their hands) in equal shares. However, with a little bit of thought on your part, and some guidance from an experienced estate planning attorney, you can dramatically improve the way your estate is ultimately distributed. For example, you can delay large bequests until children or grandchildren are older or give it to them in stages so that they have the chance to make some mistakes with the money without jeopardizing the whole inheritance. Similarly, you can place conditions on receipt of the money such as “only upon graduation with a bachelor’s degree” or “only to be used to purchase an annuity to provide a lifetime income for the beneficiary”. The possibilities, of course, are endless. The point here is that if you have some issue with one of your beneficiaries, talk it over with your attorney and you may be pleasantly surprised with some of the suggestions he or she may have for you.

9. Allows you to give back to the people and places that have helped you. Again, most people leave their assets to their children in equal shares. Yet time and again we see children who really don’t need the money or, unfortunately, don’t deserve it. Even when they do need and deserve it, there is a place for remembering those people and institutions who have helped make you what you are today. There is much good that is done through local community foundations if you want to show your appreciation for what your community has done for you. Think of the benefits you have garnered over your lifetime from your alma mater or the depth and richness added to your life by your place of worship. These can be some of the most satisfying gifts you will ever make.

8. Shows your family that you cared enough to plan for them. When you put time, thought and effort into planning your affairs it sends a powerful message to your loved ones. You are saying that you handled the matter with care and diligence. This will reflect itself in how the money is received, invested and spent by your heirs. If you took it seriously, it is much more likely they will handle it well themselves, including seeing to it that their affairs are properly planned.

7. Saves your heirs legal fees, taxes and time in settling your affairs. Everyone understands and wants to save fees and taxes, but what about saving time? By planning ahead with trusts instead of wills, you can abbreviate the settlement process, thus aiding the grieving process and allowing families to get on with their lives. In addition, while assets are tied up in a lengthy estate proceeding, valuable opportunities may be lost or additional expenses incurred, such as having to maintain a home. With the volatility of investments today, no one can afford to have their affairs tied up for any significant amount of time.

6. Protects your assets from being eaten up by nursing home costs. No estate plan is complete without a plan to protect it from having to “spend down” your assets if you have to go into a nursing home. Here, we may be advising you on long-term care insurance or, if you don’t qualify due to medical or economic reasons, we may be looking at alternatives such as setting up trusts to protect your assets from nursing home costs or transferring assets to other family members for safekeeping. Does your estate plan have some form of nursing home protection?

5. Allows you to continue your IRA’s for generations. New IRA rules allow you to multiply your IRA ten times or more by “stretching” them out for your children or grandchildren. When a parent dies and leaves an IRA to a child, the child may not roll over the IRA into their own, but instead must take a distribution. However, with proper advice, your son or daughter can elect under the Internal Revenue Code to take the distribution out in small increments over their lifetime. For example, if son is age 30 when parent dies, he has a 52 year remaining life expectancy. If he elects for the “stretch-out”, he takes 1/52nd next year, then 1/51st the following year, etc. If son was left $100,000, and only took the minimum distribution and earned an average of 10% a year on the investment, he would end up getting over $2,750,000 from parent’s IRA!

4. Allows you to protect the inheritance from children’s divorces, lawsuits. Did you know that the divorce rate today is about 50%? This has spawned a new term — when someone gets married these days it’s called a “starter marriage”. With middle class people leaving hundreds of thousands of dollars to their children, doesn’t it make sense to protect it from a 50% divorce rate? By leaving assets to your children in a trust (we call these Inheritance Trusts), you can not only protect it from a divorce but also from creditors in the event your son or daughter ever gets sued. This means that their money is protected (1) if they or someone they are legally responsible for ever has a major medical problem (2) if they get sued for a personal injury claim (3) if they lose their job or business and have to file for bankruptcy, etc.

3. Makes sure your estate will pass by blood instead of by marriage. Most estate plans leave the money to the children. So let’s say that you have left $250,000 to your son and $250,000 to your daughter. Now if they die (remember this is after you’re gone) who inherits from them? Your son-in-law or daughter-in-law. Can they get remarried and share your $250,000 with a complete stranger? Sure. Happens all the time. What can you do about it? By leaving your assets in an Inheritance Trust for your children, you can give them complete control over their inheritance (so you’re not “ruling from the grave”) while at the same time providing that, when they die, whatever they didn’t spend goes to your grandchildren or your other surviving children, instead of to your in-laws.

2. Guarantees you will be protected if you become disabled. About half of all people today have a period of disability before they die. Without a plan, you risk getting the state’s plan where they appoint a legal guardian for you who (1) may be someone you don’t even know (2) may change your investments (3) may be unable to protect your assets by transferring them to other family members if you have to go into a nursing home, and (4) may make it exceedingly difficult to get back control of your assets if you recover from your disability. When you set up a revocable living trust, you create a plan for disability that avoids a guardianship proceeding, puts the persons you chose in control and allows them to transfer and protect assets. Again, with a 50% disability rate, we all need to plan for it.

1. It gives you peace of mind so that you can get on with your life. When you have a well thought out and executed plan you actually feel better. You feel safe and secure that no matter what happens you have a plan to deal with it and you have your team in place to carry it out. This allows you to put those concerns out of your mind and enjoy your life. Remember, we’re worrying about it for you, so you don’t have to. We’ll not only track your plan for law changes, we’ll also invite you to our bi-annual “clients only” breakfast and, every three years, we’ll write to you asking if anything has changed. This way, you can feel assured that your plan will be up-to-date when you need it.

Decorating Your Deck Handrail

Are you getting bored with your decking area and you want to find ways to spruce things up? Well, contrary to what some people may believe, you don’t have to make drastic changes. You don’t have to go out and purchase an entire new seating area or any other large accessories. All you have to do is decorate your deck handrail. There are several simple things you can do to this particular feature that could help to improve the overall aesthetic appeal of the space.

One of the ways you can decorate your deck handrail is by adding some plant life. This doesn’t mean that you have to go and spend hundreds of dollars to fill up the entire railing. You could attach a few small planter boxes to the rails. Adding plants with a lot of color could make a big difference. You could even incorporate color patterns based upon your favorite sports team. For instance, if you like a team that wears the colors red, white and yellow you could easily find some flowers and plants that include those colors and attach them to the railing.

Now, you may be a person who isn’t really into gardening, not even on a small scale. You don’t have to let that stop you from incorporating some greenery or plant life into the area. You can purchase some flower garlands to wrap around the rails, instead.

Another thing you can do to improve the aesthetic appeal of your decking area is to add some lighting. Getting white Christmas lights would be a great idea, because they would be appropriate for just about any time of the year. Of course, the lights wouldn’t really be useful in the daytime. However, they would look great at night. This is also a useful feature if you like to have evening parties and gatherings on your deck.

Lastly, you could repaint the deck handrail. Maybe, you aren’t satisfied with the look because it’s beginning to appear dull. If that’s the case that issue can easily be fixed by adding another coat of paint. You could even go a step further and change the color completely, if you desire.

So, improving the look of your backyard patio space doesn’t have to be a daunting task and it doesn’t have to be extremely expensive. All you have to do is make a few simple changes to your deck handrail. This includes adding a fresh coat of paint, attaching some plant life and even incorporating some lighting.

Are Aluminum Balusters the Best Option?

When designing a deck, one of the options available to you may be aluminum balusters. These spindles run up and down the railing creating a design and a fence like look. It is a key component to the overall makeup of this space. When selecting the right type of system for your yard or deck, it is important to consider various types of material for the job. You want the right look in the space, but you also want to choose something that is going to provide the functionality you want for years to come.

The Benefits

There are some benefits of using aluminum balusters on the home’s deck. First of all, it is an attractive looking addition to your space. More importantly, it is easy to maintain and does not get too hot in the sun to burn your hands if you touch it. It is also easy to clean and you do not need to paint it or stain it like you would with wood. Add to this the benefits of using this product based on its long lifespan and it is a decision you need to make just one time that will offer years of benefits for you.

Customize the Look

Depending on the manufacturer you buy from, you may find a wide range of options to select from and customize. For example, you will have numerous color options and lengths to select from so you can customize it to blend in with the other materials for your deck. You may also want to add detailing including a basket, collar or centerpiece. All of these features can add dimension and create more of the normal lines that run through these pieces. You may also want to consider the use of designer connectors to add a bit more visual interest.

It Is Easy to Put Into Place

Depending on the type of product you buy, you are likely to find that aluminum balusters are easy to put into place. If your decks are already in place, the addition of these is easy. They can be installed, for example, on wood, aluminum or composite railing systems. In fact, you can do it yourself if you want to do so. Most products are easy to benefit from and they are an affordable, simple solution that adds dynamic and style to any deck.

Before you make a decision about aluminum balusters and whether or not they are the right option for your space, take a look at some of your options. You may find that there are so many options available that you can customize this to look just the way you want them to.

Designing With Balustrades

So you want a fence for your home, but you are not quite sure what you want to go with. That situation is perfectly normal, especially when there are many options on balustrades. The balustrade itself is the main component of a fence because it consumes most of it. Therefore, you want to make sure you choose wisely. It’s time to get creative.

Balustrade Shapes

What kind of look would you enjoy best in between your top rails and bottom rails? You could opt for a standard square-shaped balustrade and run them four to eight inches apart. You can also pick rounded ones and spread them out the same distance. Or you can even choose a flat-styled model to present a flatter look. Other than those options, you can also go with a bent style that conforms to a specific shape.

In any case, the choice is yours, but you want to make sure it will blend well with the things around it, as well as create a stylistic look that fits the theme and mood of the area. For example, a happy joy-joy design does not work for a luxurious patio nor does a high-class appearance fit a play area with kid toys, although that one is a possibility depending on circumstances. For good ideas, you can look at other balustrades to see what is being used.

Bent Balustrade Designs

If you decide to go with a bent-styled balustrade, there are numerous options. This opens up the creativity window, as well as your imagination. Some styles feature wavy balustrades while others present a curved appearance. Aside from that, maybe you’d like a specific pattern, such as circular balustrade designs, right angled designs, or even staircase appearance. Balustrades don’t have to be one direction either, which means that you can have vertical designs with pieces branching off, which is where a staircase design would come into play… or even a squared design. If you have already checked out other balustrades, you might have seen some of these examples, depending on where you have looked.

The Materials

Balustrades usually are the same material as the top and bottom rails, but there are some exceptions. Glass balustrades can be installed, as well as metal ones on a wooden frame. However, the most common material used is metal. You will mainly see wrought iron styles, but can also find aluminum and stainless steel.

In closing, balustrades vary from one location to the next. Drive around and see what you can find that you like and begin to build your own work of art. With so many options, it often helps to see what is out there in the real world so you can make better decisions and get what you truly want.

Belief Comes Before Weight or Fat Loss!

You’ve all heard the phrase before that says “Whether you believe you can or you cannot you’re right”. Well in this article I am going to not only show you how this is so very true but also share with you how it impacts and effects your weight loss and fat loss goals.

A belief often becomes a self fulfilling prophecy. This is because if you believe you can’t do something then it will affect your attitude, your moods, your emotional and physiological states which all ultimately will affect your actions which, as the basic law of cause and effect says, will affect and determine the results you get.

If you have a desire to lose weight, lose body fat and change your physical body but you have a limiting belief about what is truly possible for you… such as, it’s my genetics to be fat, I’m too old to lose weight now, I’ve tried before and it didn’t work, then these beliefs will determine your results and set you up for failure from the start.

Why? Because if you belief that you are genetically fat, that you cannot lose weight because you are above a certain age or that because you tired and failed in the past you simply cannot do it then what level of action will you take to achieve your goals? Not very much at all, because why try so hard and put in so much effort when you know it wont really work for you. With these or any other limiting beliefs you will lack the commitment, the drive, the perseverance and the consistent action that is necessary to make your goals become a reality for you.

This is true of anything. Anyone who ever achieved anything and was able to achieve success and produce a result time and time again wasn’t lucky, they had a plan and they took action to implement that plan but before all of that, what underlines everything, was the belief that what they were trying to achieve was possible for them. Empowering beliefs about yourself, about what is possible and about your dreams, desires and goals are the starting point for attainment and achievement in anything, including healthy sustainable weight and fat loss.

Let’s take a look at some more empowering beliefs and how they impact us at an unconscious level and affect how ability to achieve our hearts desires. Roger Banister break the 4 minute mile in 1954. This is something man had been trying to do since the time of the Romans. Scientists said it just couldn’t be done and that the human body wasn’t built to run a mile in under 4 minutes, they believed it wasn’t possible and they even had scientific evidence to back up their limiting belief.

Then along come Roger Banister who trained for many years in an attempt to break the 4 minute mile. The difference between Roger Banister and everyone else was not his natural genetic ability, not his superhuman capabilities but his belief about what was possible. He believed so deeply that it was possible that he refused to give up. This one belief about what was possible drove him to continue to pursue in his endeavour when others would’ve given up and advised him to dot he same. When the time came to break the world record and run a mile in under 4 minutes, it truly was a self fulfilling prophecy because he had already achieved it time and time again in his minds eye.

The truly amazing thing was not just the fact that he had achieved some an incredible feet but even more so that the very next year over 20 other people around the world achieved the same thing breaking the 4 minute mile when no one else in history had been able to do it. What made the difference? The fact that one person, Roger Bannister, had done it proved to other people and to the world what was possible and this then become a reference point for others to adopt the same and new belief about what was possible. This new belief installed in many and affected their level of action and therefore their results.

Today college kids run the mile in under 4 minutes with relative ease but just imagine if all those years ago, when everyone believed it was not possible, that Roger Bannister didn’t adopt this empowering belief, would all these people between then and now been able to achieve such great things.

If you have a desire and a goal to lose weight and fat from your body and are finding results are not showing up then you need to ask yourself, “What do I believe about losing weight and losing fat?”. Do you have beliefs that are limiting your potential, your actions and therefore your results?

Are Your Beliefs Limiting Or Empowering You?

Like it or not, our beliefs play a big role in determining the quality of our lives. If you believe that math is tough, there is someone out there who believes it is easy. If you believe that it is easy to make a million dollars, there is someone out there who believes it is impossible. If you believe that times are tough, there is always somebody out there who believes it is a great time to make money!

At this time, many people would argue,

But what if the beliefs I have are really true?

What if I am really not good at selling?

What if it the economy is really down and going to stay down?

What if there are really no opportunities around?

What if it cannot be done? What if I don’t have what it takes?

What you must understand is that the beliefs you have are never absolutely true. Beliefs are not proven facts. They are nothing but perceptions, opinions, generalizations we make about the world around us.

For every belief you hold, no matter how much you think it is true, there is always somebody out there with a totally opposite belief. And to them, their belief is as valid as yours is to you. The following example illustrates how one person has the power to change the belief of others. Breaking the Beliefs of the World

For hundreds of years, runners had never been able to run one mile in less than four minutes. Many had attempted this feat but had fallen short.

As a result, it was generally believed, and supposedly backed up as fact by the medical community, that it was not possible for a human being to run that fast! All these changed in 1954, when defying all conventions, all it took was for a single person to break these facts and records.

Roger   Bannister , a postgraduate student from Oxford University set a goal to be the first to break this ‘impossible record’. The fact was that he was nowhere near being the best runner of his time. There were many other runners better than he. But this didn’t deter Roger. Besides physical training, he engaged in a lot of mental training. He kept visualizing himself breaking the four-minute time barrier.

Then, on May 6, 1954, Roger  Bannister  stunned the world by running the mile in three minutes and 54 seconds. That was not the most amazing thing. What was truly amazing was that, within a year, 37 other runners had broken his record. Within the next three years, over 300 runners had repeated the same feat.

For so long, nobody came close to Roger  Bannister’s  record. The minute an ‘ordinary’ person achieved the feat, it led to many others achieving it too. This proves that what holds people back in tapping their fullest potential and achieving their goals is not a lack of capability, but a lack of strong empowering beliefs.

Beliefs are never absolutely true, but it becomes totally true for the person who believes in it! This is simply because whatever we believe becomes our reality. The essence is for us to constantly challenge ourselves by examining the effects of our beliefs, and finally to adopt empowering beliefs that will lead us to success.

Switch On To The Fake Fur

From medieval period, we humans have been using animal fur for the purpose of clothing. Thus killing animals for getting their fur. This practice is facing opposition from animal lovers and environmentalists as it poses threat of disappearance of many species of animals. Therefore in order to overcome this problem “Fake Animal Fur” was invented.

In appearance and feel it exactly matches with real fur. It is made up of processed and dyed polymeric fibers. After the process of processing and dyeing, the fabric is then cut down so that it matches to a particular fur’s texture and color. This fabric is also known as pile fabric. If we try to compare the original fur with fake animal fur, it is difficult to distinguish them from one another. This is because of the use of advanced technology for manufacturing such fake furs.

History of the fake fur

If we study the history of clothing, we find that fur was the one of the oldest form of clothing worn by men and women. Human beings always had fascination for the animal fur but it was always an expensive item that too in short supply. When fake fur has first introduced, it was made from the hair of a mammal named alpaca. Although the fur was of low quality in comparison of furs like mink and beaver, as it provided warmth and was inexpensive manufacturers continue to manufacture it and improve its quality and color. The true modern fake fur was introduced in late 1950’s. This became possible as acrylic polymers were replaced with usage of alpaca hair.

The special features of acrylic polymer included: light weight than other fake fur fabrics and also provided the volume needed to imitate the real fur. It was much easier to texture and dye this polymer. Continuous research and innovations were carried out to give the fake fur more realistic look and feel and also make them fire resistant. This was achieved when acrylic polymers were mixed with other polymers. This new breed of fabrics developed was named as modacrylics. This newly developed fabric is now being used primarily for manufacturing the fake fur.

Fake animal furs are manufactured in such a manner that they have the look and warmth of that of real animal fur. However it is impossible to exactly match the real animal fur, these fake furs have added advantages over natural fur as artificial furs can be colored with any color shades, they are more durable and less prone to environmental abuse. Even some of them are hand washable. Before the invention of fake fur, the rich and famous were only be able to wear the fur. But now as artificial furs are less expensive and easily available more and more people are buying it. Therefore safeguarding the interests of the animal activists and environmentalists and also saving the butchering of innocent animals for their fur.

Materials used

Fake furs are made with a variety of materials. Fake furs are manufactured using acrylic polymers, modacrylics or combination of these polymers in proper ratio. Acrylic polymers are made up of chemical compositions .The chemicals used in manufacturing acrylic polymers are derived from coal, air, water, limestone and petroleum. When acrylonitrile monomer undergoes chemical reactions under controlled condition of elevated heat and pressure- acrylic polymer is derived. Modacrylic polymers are copolymers. They are made by the reaction between acrylonitrile and vinyl chloride monomers. The increasingly use of modacrylic for fake fur manufacturing is due to its property of being easily colored by real looking animal fur dyes and are fire resistant.

These chemically manufactured polymers have many advantages over the natural fur. They provide the fluffy look to the garment, lighter in weight and bouncy. Also are resistant to various environment abusive situations like heat, smoke and sunlight. Their maintenance is also very easy as they can be easily washed or dry cleaned without any fuss. Moreover they are not attacked by insects also. They have the property of low moisture absorbency and hence dry out quickly.

Other natural fabrics like silk, mohair and wool are used to improvise the feel and look of the fake fur garment. In combination with polypropylene, cotton or wool are used to make the base for the fibers. To add shine and smoothness to fake furs various types of resins and silicones are used. Then dyes and colors are added. Designers in order to give the natural look to the fake fur use colors similar to that of natural fur.

Quality Maintenance

In order to achieve that natural look of the fur it is important on the part of the manufacturer to maintain the quality of the fake fur. For this each and every phase of production has to be inspected carefully. Therefore right from the inspection of the raw materials uptil the final finished fibers produced by polymerization reactions has to be taken care of in order to produce fake fur of high quality. Certain physical and chemical tests are done on the fibers to ensure that they meet the standards required. Some of such tests check pH, density, appearance and melting point. Also the absorbency, elasticity and resilience also tested.

During the manufacturing process, the line inspectors check the fiber at various stages to ensure the size, fiber strength, appearance and sewing quality is proper. In addition to the manufacturer’s own standards, the industry and government has also set quality parameters. The government has also set some standards which are known as L-22 to test fabric properties like pilling, contraction and the wear.

It’s Future

Constant experiments are been made to produce fake furs that are more durable and in most resemblance to the natural animal fur. Therefore focus is on developing new fibers with better finishing and lower cost of production. The starting of the twentieth century marked the revolution in the fake fur manufacturing industry. More specialized and efficient method of production is being developed.

Special animal simulation techniques have recently been developed. One of such technique includes simulation of the long and short hair sections of mink or river otter fur by amalgamation of shrinkable and non-shrinkable fibers. In order to get the feel of beaver fur, certain fine and coarse fibers are mixed. As these fake furs are made up of synthetic fibers and has similar texture, color, look and better insulation than the real fur. Artificial furs are PETA approved.

Teenagers – Inside the Teenage Brain

Recent research on the human brain provides parents with shocking new evidence to possibly explain the sometimes irrational, illogical and impulsive behavior of teenagers. Brain researchers can now scan the live teenage brain to observe and examine why these curious and perplexing creatures make so many impulsive and egocentric decisions, that may even sometimes lead to risky behavior.

As it turns out, brain development during the teenage years is radically more active and dynamic than previously thought. During these years, the part of the brain that requires a person to make responsible decisions, understand consequences, and process problem-solving is under heavy construction, and much of the time dysfunctional. Even though the brain is almost physically mature, the grey matter in the thinking part of the brain (pre-frontal cortex) is still making connections. So teenagers are left with most of the information reaching their brains being processed in the emotional part (limbic system).

Information processed in the limbic system, without benefit of higher level processing in the pre-frontal cortex, may result in impulsive, egocentric, and maybe even risky, behavior. Because of this ongoing construction in the thinking part of the brain, a teenager is, many times, not capable of fully processing information that is necessary to make responsible decisions. Combine this brain challenge with a teen’s temperament, maturity level, developmental stage and environmental impact, and it begins to become understandable why parents may find this time so exhausting and frustrating.

Realizing that major construction is going on inside the pre-frontal cortex of the teenage brain does not excuse inappropriate or irresponsible behavior from the teen. But understanding the teenage brain is crucial to figuring out how to interact with it. For the teenager, this time in his or her life can be a creative and emotional roller coaster ride with plenty of thrills and chills (and maybe some spills), but for parents it can be just nerve-wracking and terrifying. Healthy communication and effective discipline are what a teenager needs to help navigate this important time, especially since the brain is not yet necessarily ready or able to face all of the inevitable challenges, without support.

Each interaction with a teenager will affect development of his or her brain, helping the teen make connections in the pre-frontal cortex. During this time of heavy construction, the teenage brain needs focused and intentional support and teaching to help form and solidify these hopefully healthy connections. Parents can benefit from the understanding that there’s much work that can be done while the teenage brain in still under construction and with proper perspective and effort, a teenager can learn to be less impulsive and egocentric, and make better and more responsible decisions.

As parents decide how to more effectively communicate with the developing teenage brain, it’s vital to also consider who a child actually is, and what kind of parenting styles the child is exposed to. Most of us are the result of an even dose of nature and nurture, and understanding the nature of who a child is, and how his or her surroundings have impacted that child, can help parents formulate more effective techniques when facing challenging situations during the teenage years.

The nature of a teenager is a complex and fascinating combination of temperament, stage of development, personality, maturity level, and social connection. In addition, parents need to consider the teenager’s emotional health (self esteem) and relational health (to what degree have the teen’s closest relationships positively impacted his or her development).

And then there’s parenting styles. Healthy and effective parenting (described as authoritative), can help the positive development of the teenage brain. Using healthy communication tools like active listening, reframing, timing of teaching moments, I-messages, etc. and effective discipline tools like healthy limit setting, consequences, picking and choosing battles, few rules, etc. can greatly help the teenager’s pre-frontal cortex develop solid connections to enable responsible behavior.
