Building Muscles for Men and Women

It seems like there is real craze with building muscles right now. Everyone including men, women, young and old are starting to shape up and sculpt their bodies like never before.

We're all aware that obesity has taken over yet but now there seems to be a tide-shift with a reversing going on in a positive direction. For the first time in many years the obesity rate of school children in the USA is decreasing instead of growing.

With more and more people looking to build their muscles and strength this trend can certainly accelerate.

So what is building muscle suddenly so popular?

In this article we'll discuss building muscles for:

Bodybuilding Competition

Looks and Confidence

Strength and Stamina

Gain or Lose Weight

Building Muscles for Women

Doing More and Being More

In general people have different reasons for getting into body and muscle building. One person may do it for competitive reasons, others for confidence issues, others to build strength and stamina, gain weight, lose weight and then some people just want to be able to do more and live a healthier life.

Building Muscles for Competition

Bodybuilding competition is one reason why people are interested in building large muscle mass. Building muscles for competition is a huge sport. You can find big rewards in competitive bodybuilding but competing on this level takes much dedication and effort. You'll need to dedicate time, lots of time working out every day to build and maintain large muscle mass and shape.

Building Muscles to Compete is not Meant to be a Hobby

You will not normally obtain a perfectly chiseled body with pumped up muscles overnight and if you are looking to make it to the top of the muscle building food chain, you're going to have to invest tens of thousands of hours in workout time and the younger you get started as an adult body builder the better chance you'll have at making it to the top.

Building Muscles for Confidence

If you are getting into bodybuilding because you're overweight, too scrawny and thin or just not happy with the way your body looks, body and muscle building can help and the results can be seen in a matter of weeks. When done properly, you'll be muscle building in a matter of days and many people see noticeable improvements in just 4 to 6 weeks time.

Getting stronger, building muscle tone and depending on your situation, gaining or losing weight is a great confidence and self image booster. You just need to be sure that you do not get carried away doing too much too fast. Set a rational schedule based on where you are starting from and you'll begin to see improvements in quick order.

Building Muscles for Women

Body and muscle building for women is not as popular as it is for men but it is really a great way for women to build strength without being concerned about bulking up like a man would. There are many petite women who body build and can lift an extreme amount of weight. So do not confuse building large muscles with raw strength and size.

Many women are coming to realize this and finding that even though they build muscle mass at a slower pace than a man would, they still get the luxury of building strength, stamina and their metabolism without the worry of looking like the Hulk's masculine twin sister.

Speaking of building muscles to look masculine, younger males get into body and muscle building many times to impress the girls. They want to look fantastic and they want ripped muscles and they want them now! Their desire to look ripped, strong and desirable for a potential mate can become problematic.

This is the same problem competitive bodybuilders can get up in when they try to build muscles too fast and take shortcuts that they think or have been told will give them an edge.

Avoid Using Steroids and Growth Hormones when Building Muscle Mass

When the pressure is on to bulk up quickly, some body builders turn to using growth hormones and steroids to hasten muscle building. There are a couple of big problems with this. In the case of teenagers trying to bulk up quickly, they have to remember that their bodies are still in a growing mode and the use of hormones or steroids can have some bad side effects that can seriously mess up the rest of their life.

As far as competition body builders go, there's really nothing to say to you here. You know what's going on because you see it nearly every day in the world of sports and fitness; elimination from competition, health problems and stripped titles after years and years of hard work and full dedication of a big piece of your life.

It's not worth it and cheating at building muscles for competition will not make you feel very proud if you do happen win an event.

In the case of the young " want to impress" bodybuilder or the super Hulk competitive version, doing steroids and growth hormones is rarely a good idea.

Bodybuilding in its beginning was created to be a sport and when given it respect and patience it describes it can be a rewarding way to stay fit and healthy for a lifetime.

If you're into the competitive body and muscle building real it can be a great way to travel and socialize with people all around the world from local events all the way up to the Olympics if you are so inclined.

If you're looking at the field for a career there are huge opportunities for working in the health and fitness industry and if you're into it to impress others and gain confidence then building muscle mass may be a great way for you to achieve it .

Whatever your reason for building muscle and getting into bodybuilding is, the benefits to your health, fitness level, confidence and ability to do more and be more is undisputed.

The Elevator Pitch

The "Elevator Pitch" may well be something you've heard of before but how much importance you have given this topic to date. For those who are less familiar, the Elevator Pitch is really a sales pitch that you would give to someone in those few seconds while you travel together in the elevator, or any other brief encounter for that matter.

First of all in terms of timing I think any initial pitch should last anything from 60 to 90 seconds and no more. Some sales people will think that they can not possibly describe what they have to offer in such a short space of time, and this will be absolutely true. However the Elevator Pitch is really only the attention grabber that will hopefully lead to further contact with the prospect. So where do we start and where do we finish? What do we leave in and what do we leave out? Well before you set pen to paper to create that masterpiece pitch, think of this sequential order:

1. Who are you and who do you represent?
2. What do you do and what's great about what you sell?
3. How can it benefit the person in front of you?
4. Ask a leading question in relation to your offering.
5. Request a follow on contact with the prospect.

Now I know this may seem simple but if any one of these components is missing or poorly communicated, it will have a negative knock on effect on the others. The timing, quality and delivery of what you say are all pretty much of equal importance. The best pitch in the world will not work if it's not presented with confidence and conviction, so just to go quickly through the pointers in a little more detail.

1. Who are you and who do you represent? You simply state your name and the company you work for. It would be ideal if the type of product or service can be summarized in the name in some form or other. For example, "Hi I'm John, I work for AquaFlo Water Purifying Services!"

2. What do you do and what's great about what you sell? This is actually the tricky bit because you have to capture the prospect's attention with very few strong words. One example could be: "I make people healthier and happier by providing them with clear purified water!"

3. How can it benefit the person in front of you? Well this is where you actually do the selling because you're aiming at the person's self-interest and emotion. One example could be: "No more heavy bottles to carry, no toxins and an abundance of cheaper quality water!"

4. The leading question is really just putting the words in the prospect's mouth. "Did you know that plastic water bottles are polluting the environment. You see most people will agree with this question while you are softly guiding them to your side of the argument.

5. Requesting a follow up often known as the "call to action!" is essential or all your other efforts will have been wasted. This can vary according to the individual's methods as long as it can lead to further contact.

So take a pen and paper and start planning that perfect "Elevator Pitch" and watch those sales beginning to roll in. The secret to being creative in this area is to keep writing draft copies until you are completely satisfied. You can then do a trial run and make further perfections. The reason I say this is because what sounds great in writing does not always work so well in the spoken language. The one thing I am sure of is that with the right amount of perseverance, the best results will come.

Cleaning Tough Stains on a Glass Cooktop

Glass top stoves are far easier to clean than your typical range with all those nooks and crannies. However, when cleaning glass cooktops, you will still need to worry about how to clean up cracks and how to clean stains. Sugar syrup, water rings, melted plastic, caked on stains, baked on stains and copper stains on glass stove tops can be a hassle. But before you give up on cleaning tough stains, try some of these tips.

The best way to prevent persistent stains on a glass cooktop is to clean it regularly. Regular cleaning of a glass or ceramic stove is pretty basic. Simply turn off the glass top stove and wait for it to cool. Then, using a clean dishtowel and a little bit of water and mild dish detergent, wipe down the entire stove. The key is to use a clean dishtowel, as the dirty dish towel you use to wipe your pots and pans will leave residue. You'll also want to make sure to take off your diamond ring or turn it outwards to avoid scratching your cooktop.

Another method is to use a mixture of baking soda and warm water. For very persistent stains, spray your cooktop with white distilled vinegar and then sprinkle a sponge with baking soda. Scrub away, rinse and dry. This is an excellent way to remove grease.

If you get a copper stain on your cooktop, apply a little bit of Bar Keepers Friend and scrub it with a plastic scrubber. It's very important to not use something like steel wool, as this can scratch the surface.

If you get an aluminum stain from a piece of foil left on your stovetop, soak two paper towels in a mixture of 1 part bleach and 1 part water. Let the paper towels sit on top of the aluminum stain for an hour. Wipe clean and reapply a cleaning conditioner.

For spills on hot elements, wipe them up immediately before they get caked on. Wait until the burner cools a bit so you do not burn yourself then promptly wipe it up.

For caked on stains, use a single sided razor blade. Keep the flat side in contact with the glass cooktop to avoid scratching it. You should only be scrapping away the stain. Wedge it beneath as if you were trying to flip a very stuck pancake.

The best way, of course, is to use the commercial cleaner that comes with your stove. All glass cook tops are a little bit different. You can find the best glass and ceramic oven cleaner for your model by referring to the manual. Stock up! You'll need it for as long as you have a glass stove top.

For mineral deposits (white streaks and splotches), use the commercial cleaner. You will usually get these deposits because your water is very hard. You may be able to avoid this by using distilled water when mixing the abovementioned cleaning solutions. But the commercial cleaner will likely work best.

Kitchen Splashbacks

No matter what look you are going for, the right kitchen splashback (sometimes known as a backsplash) will not only serve a useful purpose, but will also help to compliment and focus the style of your kitchen. Kitchen splashbacks are now widely used – particularly on wall areas behind cooker surfaces – to protect the wall from any resulting splashes from oil or food that you might be cooking. Splashbacks are a great alternative to tiles and now come in many different colors, materials and sizes to complete your color scheme.

Many kitchen splashbacks are made from glass, making them both water and stain resistant, and very easy to clean and maintain. Nowadays, there are a great many ranges and color effects to choose from, like for instance 'Galaxy Glitter' – with bold black coloring and subtle sparkles, or 'Popsicle' for a terrific retro-pink effect. Good-quality items are made using UV-stable technology, so you can rest assured that your cherry-red kitchen feature will not lose its impact.

Easy to install, glass kitchen splashbacks with normally feature a self-adhesive backing, and are typically made from toughened glass so you can be sure that they will be able to withstand significant amounts of heat from your cooker, and will be hardy enough to last a good many years of use.

For a really stunning visual effect, why not combine your splashback with matching tiles allowing you to really go to town and be more creative with your kitchen designs. Of course, if you do not want your kitchen splashback to be a feature in your design, that's not a problem. There are a wide range of minority and neutral colors available such as 'Whisper' clear glass, and 'Liquorice' black to help give more flexibility when choosing your color scheme.

Although glass splashbacks can be a great alternative to using tiles, it's entirely possible to create a kitchen splashback using tiles as your material. Since tiles come in many different shapes, sizes, colors and materials, you can be assured to have a wide selection to choose from wherever you prefer porcelain, ceramic, marble, glass, travertine, or natural stone.

Burning Plastic Causes Cancer, Sexual Orientation Problems, and Respiratory Diseases

The smoke of burning plastic contains toxic particles; these toxic particles can cause cancer when inhaled. When these burnt particles fall back to the ground, they contaminate the soil for many years and may render vegetables and fruit harvested from gardens in these areas unsafe to eat.

Separate plastic from other rubbish that is to be burnt and dispose of safely. Pigs, goats and chickens eating grass or food scraps contaminated with dioxins from the burnt plastic will pass it on to humans when these animals are then eaten.

Open burning of plastic waste is simply dangerous to your health and the health of the environment. Plastic such as PVC (polyvinylchloride) is common in such products as: bottles, jugs, plastic packaging and plastic bags from the supermarket. When these plastics are burnt, carbon monoxide, dioxins and furans are released into the air. Studies have linked dioxins and furans to cancer and respiratory diseases, most especially in children as their respiratory systems may not be fully developed. It also causes birth defects in the respiratory and cardiovascular systems when inhaled by a pregnant mother.

Dioxin is a toxic organic chemical that contains chlorine and is produced when chlorine and hydrocarbons are heated to high temperature.

These toxic components inhaled with smoke from burning plastic materials can cause hormonal and sex behavioral orientation problems with your newborn child, as a result, the child could begin exhibiting behavior in total contrast to his or her sex – a male acting female or vice versa.

Researchers have established that inhaling burnt plastic materials have altered sexual characters of some birds (from male to female). They have also revealed the same defects can easily occur in human beings. Plastics should never be burnt in the open air, there are recycling options available for disposal of these waste products.

Dioxins and furans can also cause impotence, asthma and a myriad of other allergies in humans. Medical reports show exceptionally low sperm counts in young men in comparison to previous generations. Testicular cancer has increased by 55 % between 1979 and 1991 and fewer boys are being born in areas where burning plastic is practiced. Some girls are achieving puberty earlier than earlier generations, this can also be a result of inhaling dioxin and furans.

STOP BURNING PLASTIC NOW! If your neighbour is burning plastic, report them to your health department.

Peruvian walnut is a relative of the black walnut found in the United States. The Brazilian Oak is located in Costa Rica, Panama, Brazil and Venezuela. It has color and grain qualities similar to domestic oak.

Of course, these are not the list of types of wood the producers offer you, however these are the most important. Choose carefully, and keep in mind the exact look and feel you are going for.

Glass Fiber Reinforced Stone – A Simple Way to Build Green

Erecting structures in such a way that the overall impact on the environment and human health is minimized is known as green building. To "build green", Â individuals must try to reduce energy usage and waste, but they must also choose specific building materials. Glass Fiber Reinforced Stone, a composite invented fairly recently, is an excellent choice for those who want to go green. This article will outline the major reasons why.

  • GFRS is often associated with lower levels of energy usage: Using fiber reinforced stone can cut down on a project's energy demands in a variety of ways. First, because GRS is lightweight, transporting panels and elements to the job site requires less fuel. GFRS is a low conductor of heat, and the thin skin of fiber reinforced stone panels allows for the usage of considered amounts of insulation. Both of these properties can lower energy demands when GRS is used for building projects.
  • GFRS is long lasting: Choosing tough materials with long life spans is a straightforward way to build greener structures. Durable materials like GRS reduce the need for replacement and repairs, activities that are associated with energy use and waste.
  • Using GRS may cut down on the amount of building material needed: GFRS is typically used as an alternative to dimensional and carved stone. Selecting Glass Fiber Reinforced Stone panels can reduce the amount of material required for a given project by up to 90%.
  • GRS reduces the need for site finishing: Unlike some other building materials, fiber reinforced stone does not require extensive on-site finishing. This can effectively eliminate the release of VOCs, which are found in various types of paints, coatings, and wood preservatives. Volatile organic compounds are known to adversely affect human health, as well as air and water quality.
  • GFRS can lower or even eliminate the need to use harmful pesticides: When fiber reinforced stone is used in place of wood, there is a much lower chance of an insect infestation. In particular, Glass Fiber Reinforced Stone is completely unaffected by termites. This property of GFRS can reduce or even eliminate the need for chemical pesticides, toxic substances that can harm people and the environment. Additionally, using GRS can help avoid the costs associated with repairing damages caused by insects. This is no small problem; in the US alone, it's estimated that insects cause over $ 2.5 billion in building damages annually.

GRS is a naturally green material that offers a number of environmental and economic benefits over heavy quarried stone and less durable wood. It is also a versatile material that can be cast into almost any form. GFRS is a good choice for anyone who wants to make environmentally-responsible building choices, but does not want to sacrifice aesthetics.

The Most Useful Bodyweight Exercises – Part 1

Let's face it, you can not always get to the iron, sometimes the gym is just out of the way and there's no time to make the trip. That does not mean your workout has to wait. You've got a body right? It weighs something (probably more than 100 lbs, too), right? So, of course bodyweight exercises are the answer to this particular dilemma. You can do bodyweight exercises almost anywhere at any time.

Here's the first installation of my top ten list of great bodyweight exercises.

1) Bodyweight Squats. Squats are great for working your quads, hamstrings, glutes, hip flexors, all that good stuff. Throw your arms out in front of you as you lower yourself and lower them as you raise yourself to give your upper body something to do. Or hold something heavy if you've got something heavy close by. You can make this harder by doing a timed set. Try to see how many proper form bodyweight squats you can do in 5 minutes flat. My record is 215. That's not easy. Trust me. Or mix it up by doing Split Squats or Squats with one leg behind you on a table or chair, or widen your stance to hit your inner thighs harder. There's lots of ways to get variety in your squats. It just takes a little imagination.

2) Lunges. If you're low on space, just do regular lunges, moving forward and back repeatedly. If you're outdoors and have the room, do walking lunges, back lunges, side lunges. Again, use your creativity and you'll find lots of ways to change it up. You could even lunge your way all the way to work and back at the end of the day if you do not mind a few snickers from passersby along the way.

3) Pushups. If done correctly and from your toe position these are not easy. There's lots of ways to get variety here too. Try them with your hands close together, or one hand beside your chest and the other one beside your ribcage or hips. Try doing the spiderman pushup or one armed pushups. Raise your legs onto a table or stool, or if you're really strong, the wall.

4) Pull-ups or Chin-ups. Yes, you do need a bar or at least something stable you can hang off to do this one, but if you are near a playground you've got that one beat right there. Otherwise get one installed in your home. It is worth the investment (yes, I have one installed in my home too). You have no idea how fast you can build up strength for this one if you can do one or two several times a day just walking through your door the 'hard' way!

5) Towel Rows. Like Pull-ups you will need to find something to hook a towel around that you can lie under and use to pull yourself up. But if you have even a banister or railing in your home, that will do just fine.

There's the first five of my top ten bodyweight exercises. I've got the rest coming in the very next article so we'll see you there.

The Art of Selective Ignorance – Deleting Barriers to Success

"Real knowledge is to know the extent of one's ignorance." – Confucius

Strange as it may seem, in some cases, ignorance can be a blessing. Most of the world's greatest achievements came to be because someone simply did not know that it could not be done. That's when it would be appropriate to invoke the proverb that says, "Ignorance is bliss."

The extent of what we can accomplish is only limited by the scope of our determination. Most of our limits are self-imposed. For thousands of years, people held the belief that it was impossible for a human being to run the mile in less than four minutes. But in 1954 Roger Bannister broke this imposing faith barrier.

In the whole history of the human race, no one had ever been able to break the four-minute mile, yet within one year of Bannister's breaking the barrier, 37 other runners also broke it. And the year after that, 300 other runners did the same thing! Today, high school kids run the four minutes mile. All that because Roger did not know that it could not be done.

Most of man's greatest achievements were thought to be impossible at one point. Someone did not know that it was impossible, went ahead and did it. Now it is seen as self-evident.

If we ever hope to do anything worthwhile with our life, the Art of Selective Ignorance has to be learned and mastered. That is, we have to learn to ignore all the reasons why it's impossible to do something that has never been done before. We need to learn to ignore limitations, shortcomings and shortages.

One of the most important words in the vocabulary of great achievers is the adverb: how. They want to know "how" something can be done and they choose to ignore the reasons why it can not be done. That is the Art of Selective Ignorance at its finest.

Dr. Martin Seligman of the University of Pennsylvania has introduced us to the world of "learned helplessness." He has demonstrated how one single failed attempt at something that we tried to accomplish can create the belief that it meant that we could never accomplish that objective.

He also showed that this "one attempt" could create the belief that since we've failed in this particular project it also meant that we would fail in something that is totally unrelated. And, as if that was not enough, this one failure can also be seen as a personal flaw or personal ineptitude.

In 1895, Albert Einstein sat the entrance examinations to get into the prestigious Federal Polytechnic School (or Academy) in Zurich, Switzerland and failed. What a great mind the world would have lost if Einstein had taken that failure as a sign that he was not intelligent enough to pursue a life of research.

We can always learn from our failures. However, we must be selective on what we choose to learn. Instead of learning that failures are signs of personal ineptitude, we should learn from what went wrong and how it can be changed in future attempts.

The brain is a wonderful tool but it does need someone at the helm to direct it. Allowed to run free, it can create havoc; well guided it can produce wonders. That is why we should learn to master the Art of Selective Ignorance.

Setting Up Your Mouse For Counter-Strike

The purpose of this article is to help the reader optimize his mouse for Counter-Strike.

The two main factors that come into play when deciding which mouse to use for gaming are ergonomics and how many extra buttons the mouse has. The ergonomics part is obvious, gamers want a mouse that feels comfortable and natural to use. Nobody can well with a mouse that contorts the user's fingers in awkward ways. The second part is less obvious. Commonly, a player's right hand is used primarily for aiming / shooting, which in reality is underutilizing since it all takes is one finger and wrist. This article will focus on how to take advantage of the extra buttons on your mouse to optimize your gaming experience. While this guide asserts that you are using a Logitech MX518, any mouse with multiple buttons other than the standard mouse1 / mouse2 / mousewheel will do.

The first thing to change is the mouse wheel action. As default, scrolling the mouse wheel will rotate through your weapons. This is pretty useless because no one should use his mouse wheel to switch to a new weapon. A much more practical use for the mouse wheel is for jumping. You may wonder what the point of jumping with your mouse wheel is when you can already jump by pressing space bar. The answer is that it is practically impossible to bunny hop while using your space bar. It is much easier to bunny hop while using your mouse wheel. Type the following commands into your console:

bind mwheelup "+ jump"
bind mwheeldown "+ jump"

Note that you should still leave space bar as your normal jump key. You should only use your mouse wheel to jump when you are trying to bunny hop.

The next thing to do is to make your nades easily accessible. Scrolling through your nades menu by repeatedly pressing '4' can be an annoying and time consuming process, especially if you have multiple enemies rushing you and you unfortunately need to pull out that flash right away. Luckily, you can skip that step and select immediately which grenade you by just pressing a button on your mouse. The best way is to assign a separate button on your mouse to each type of nade. Which button is assigned to which nade is purely based on personal preference. I personally use mouse3 for HE grenades, mouse4 for smokers and mouse5 for flashbangs. To set this up, type these commands into your console:

bind "mouse3" "use weapon_hegrenade"
bind "mouse4" "use weapon_smokegrenade"
bind "mouse5" "use weapon_flashbang"

Which button you use for each type of grenade is entirely up to you and does not make much of a difference. A different common setup is to not use mouse3 at all and to bind HE nades and flashes to mouse4 and mouse5, respectably, since most of the time when you throw a smoke and you are not in a rush to throw it. I suggest that you try different setups and stick with the one you like the most.

Even if your mouse is not a mx518 and it has more buttons, I do not recommend that you bind anything to them. CS / CSS is a game where anyone could be around any corner, and therefore you should always have your index finger on the trigger.

Frontal Hair Loss – Causes and Treatment

While losing hair is very common among men, the sad truth is that frontal type loss is probably the most difficult type that a man is going to need to deal with. Not only can it be difficult to prevent and treat, but it is the most noticeable type of baldness because it is right in front of every one. If you are going through frontal receding, you are probably wondering whether or not it is even treatable, and what your treatment options are. Here, you will learn more about the most common causes of thinning hair as well as your available treatment options.

What causes it?

Male Pattern Baldness, or MPB, is a genetic condition, which is caused by a male sex hormone called DiHydroTestosterone, otherwise known as DHT. It is produced when testosterone combines with a certain type of enzyme. DHT then attacks the hair follicles and shrinks them, shortening their growth phase cycle. This happens slowly, and majority of the time, you will not even notice it taking place. In fact, some men may even lose up to fifty percent of their frontal hair before they even begin to notice that any type of hair loss is taking place.

So, what are the treatment options of frontal hair loss?

There are a number of different treatment options that you can decide to choose from a number of different available choices. One of these options is Propecia. Although Propecia is proven to work for majority of people who lose hair, there is no accurate evidence that shows that it works for people who have receding hair lines at the temples. However, it does help in preventing and treating hair loss that occurs in the frontal and mid scalp anterior regions. Of course, if you are looking for the best option for you cost wise, Propecia can be expensive, as it costs between sixty and one hundred fifty dollars per month.

Rogaine is another replacement option that you have for frontal hair loss. Although it will cause new hair growth through most of the head, including frontal regions, it will not grow new hair in the temple region of the head. When it is taken twice daily for at least four hours for a duration of four months, however, you will no longer ever lose hair, even at times in the temple region.

Another option that you have for treating hair fall in the frontal region. You must visit a clinic that specializes in hairloss. Cost wise, hair restoration is probably the most expensive option for you to treat your hair loss. Although prescription drugs and topical creams may seem as though they are the best option, the amount of money that you will pay each month is going to add up in the end.

When Do I Need to Remodel My Kitchen?

When you've been living in the same house for awhile, things start to go wrong. Counter tops may be chipped or broken, cabinets are falling apart, it is easy to tell that it is time to remodel the kitchen. Beyond issues that are cosmetic, there may be larger issues at play that are far more important but will send the home remodeling costs soaring. However, you need to come up with the money because these fixes are critical to your home and your sanity. Here are some factors to consider when deciding if it's time to remodel your kitchen.

Traffic flow: If you want to have more than one person in the kitchen at a time you might want to put some more room in the kitchen around the main workspace. If you have a lot of parties or would like to you should consider an open floor plan that allows the cook to interact with guests. Measure your kitchen: the width of a walkway should be 36 inches, the width of a work area should be 42 inches and the work area should measure 48 inches if there is going to be more than one person working in there.

Enough space: Counter space and storage space can be increased a lot just by rearranging the layout of your kitchen. The location of your fridge or the shape of your counter may be robbing you of useful workspace. The accepted standards for a counter top, either when you are replacing it or are changing the shape is 158 inches of total counter top frontage, that is 24 inches deep and has 15 inches of clearance above it. This space should your comprise your landing area, prep / work area, storage, and any other uses.

Old appliances may be costing you more money than they are worth due to inefficient operation. These days, manufacturers are responding to the green demand by making technological improvements to dishwashers, disposals, and refrigerators to make them more efficient and save you a lot of money, making them worth the investment. For instance, you could purchase a dishwasher with rated for low energy consumption, a delay timer, and an economy cycle or half load button. This would save you water as well as money.

Accessibility: Is your kitchen usable by individuals with a disability? While you may not need for it to be now, if you plan on staying in the house for a long time or plan on selling it one day, you should keep this question in mind. Since the home remodeling costs can be high and you may not be willing or able to take on additional debt this will help you classify need to have versus nice to have. Also, determine whether you are planning on working with a designer or taking on the task yourself.

George Wallace: An Enigma

People who saw George Wallace as a racist populist may have missed the complexity hiding behind a facade. The man had many faces.

George loved the limelight, so he was compelled to continue run for office, aiming for the top: first, to be Alabama's governor; next, to be the United States president. But holding office was not as important as winning it. George thrived on the thrill of the chase, even when it took him away from his duties as governor. He also needed power, so much so that he had his terminally ill wife Lurleen replace him when he was no longer eligible to serve as Alabama's governor.

Underneath the shield of simplicity was a unique man with the ability to adapt to any situation and make it work to his advantage. He was so adept at being "the boy next door", people did not look beyond that. When he deal with bureaucrats, however, his personality changed and he acted in a manner suitable to the occasion.

He served in difficulty, controversial times. Like other politicians of his ilk in the Civil Rights era, he did what was politically expedient, passionately trying to hold onto norms of the past, especially white supremacy. Much was done under the guise of States Rights. He knew his infamous "stand in the schoolhouse door" was futile, but he kept his campaign promise made in a speech when he said, "I say segregation now, segregation tomorrow and segregation forever." Later, he claimed the word "segregation" was a misnomer; he'd intended to say "States Rights" in all three places. Then, he changed with the times and made amends by apologizing to relatives of four children who were victims of a bombing at the Sixtieth Street Baptist Church in 1963.

A determined man, being shot in an attempted assassination did not stop him from continuing to pursue his goals. His passion endured, and he did not waver after what he called his "accident." His mantra was "Keep on keeping on," even though being bound to a wheelchair meant he could not longer stand up for Alabama. He had supporters and opponents. People who loved him were fiercely loyal, and those who did not constantly harped on his faults.

Although George had three wives, he chose to be buried beside his first one, Lurleen. Their bodies rest in the Circle of Life Section of Greenwood Cemetery in Montgomery. Both past governors are still not too far from the Capitol of Alabama.

How to Properly Care For Your Soldering Iron Tip

Your soldering iron can be an indispensable tool for a number of different projects, ranging from home improvement and electronics repair to metalwork and even arts and crafts! But since this tool is a very delicate, highly specialized instrument, it's important to take good care of it – and that's especially true of the tip, the iron's most fragile (and essential) part. In order to properly care for the tip of your iron, keep the following pointers in mind:

  • Do not file, grind or otherwise attempt to reshape the tip because it can permanently damage it. Instead, buy a different size or shape that is better suited to your needs. Most manufacturers offer a wide range of soldering iron tip sizes for precisely this purpose.
  • Always use fresh solder on a the tip to clean it before you start to use it. This process is called tinning, and works because the fresh solder will help dissipate any temporary oxide coverage.
  • When soldering at particular high temperatures (anything above 665 degrees Fahrenheit), or when you pause your soldering work for longer than an hour, always clean and tin the tip in order to avoid oxidizing the solder.
  • Clean your tip with a synthetic wet sponge only; do not use cloths, rags or other fabrics. The sponge should be wet with distilled water, since the minerals present in tap water can contaminate your tip.
  • Do not rub the tip of your soldering iron on the metals you're trying to join.
  • Do not add sold directly to the tip itself when connecting wires. Rather, heat the connecting wires so when the solder is applied it melts into place.
  • Use the lowest temperature possible for the project in question. This will help prolong the life of your soldering iron tip.
  • When finished with your iron, do not remove the excess sold from the tip prior to turning it off. This solder will actually help prevent oxidation and protect the delicate tip.
  • Finally, always allow the tip of your soldering iron to cool completely before putting it away in a specially designated storage case or holder.
