Seal inside tyres

Self-sealing technology in tyres has been around for a couple of years now and tyres that use it have become a popular alternative to driving with spare wheels. ‘Seal inside’ tyres fix themselves from the inside when they get a puncture.

Seal inside tyres have a layer of sealant behind the tread of the tyre which prevents air escaping when the tyre is punctured. It does this regardless of whether the object that pierced the tyre is still embedded or not. This protection is activated immediately so the tyre’s performance remains uncompromised and continued driving is still safe.

According to various manufactures of self sealing tyres, drivers who have them fitted will not even notice that they have a puncture. Run flat tyres

Run flat tyres have been designed to allow a driver to continue for approximately 50 miles at a reduced speed after getting a flat. The idea is that with these tyres fitted, drivers can buy enough time to get off a motorway or make their way to a garage.

These tyres, also known as ‘self-supporting tyres’ have thicker sidewalls which can hold the weight of the car ever when the air pressure inside the tyre is reduced. How to Draw a Graph Using Excel

Microsoft Excel has got a great feature called Charts. Charts help us to draw graphs based on a given data. This is an excellent tool to convert your data into graph within no time. Visualize a scenario, wherein you are asked to draw a graph on sales made during different quarters by your company. Let us do this task right away.

Open your Excel program. Input Quarter names in one   column  (say A1). This is going to be our X-axis in our graph. The next  column  should be filled with the sales figures corresponding to each quarter you entered in the first  column . This  column  is our Y-Axis. Your basic data is now ready to be drawn. All you have to do is to select the entire region of data and click on the chart wizard icon provided in the menu toolbar.

Foot Grilles – Make Your Floor Mat Look New

If your building presently has an Aluminum Foot Grille for an entrance mat at the door, THANK YOUR ARCHITECT. If the right style of foot grille was specified for the building and the installation of the floor mats was done well, you may possess one of the most effective floor mat systems available.

Foot Grilles consist of a series of aluminum rails spaced about an 1/8 of an inch apart to allow for debris and moisture to fall below the walking surface. These rails should run perpendicular to the flow of traffic (when they do not, the mats will not perform as well). On top of each aluminum rail, there is usually some type of insert (i.e., carpet insert, polypropylene brush inserts, aluminum abrasive insert, etc.). The purpose of these inserts is to perform one or more of the following duties:

  • Absorb moisture
  • Scrape dirt
  • Provide good traction
  • Offer color options to accent surrounding floors, walls and lobbies

Choosing the correct type of insert is crucial to the overall performance of the foot grille. Over time, these inserts tend to wear down or become damaged. When this occurs, the mat looks worn out and visually unappealing. The carpet actually wears down below the aluminum so the effectiveness of the matting to clean shoes is severely compromised. When the inserts become worn, the building engineer or manager is faced with the dilemma of either replacing the floor mats altogether or refurbishing the foot grilles with new carpet inserts.

New foot grilles generally cost from $30.00 to $60.00 per square foot. A small 6 foot x 6 foot sized foot grille could cost from $1,000 and up to replace not to mention the expense of installation and trying to find an experienced installer for this matting system (there are not many). If the foot grille is made up of many sections for a large entrance area (i.e., mall or hospital entrances, etc.), a foot grille that is 10 foot x 20 foot in size can run from $6,000.00 and up. Combine that with the increased need for an experienced installer and replacement of this foot grille becomes quite high.

Refurbishment of the existing foot grilles is a much more cost effective approach. Carpet insert replacement usually runs about $1.50 -$3.00 per lineal foot of carpet insert + installation. Materials and labor to refurbish the existing mats is usually about half of cost of new mats. That same 10 foot x 20 foot mat mentioned above would cost about $2,400 in materials + Installation versus about $6,000 for a new mat + Installation. More importantly, refurbishing your mats poses a lot fewer headaches.

The challenge of refurbishing the foot grille matting has always been in identifying the manufacturer of the floor mat. The threats of lawsuits have forced each foot grille manufacturer to alter the design of their floor matting to avoid any patent infringement issues. One of the design elements that is often altered is the width of the carpet insert.

Most of the carpet inserts slide in a track formed during the extrusion process of the foot grille. These tracks hold the insert in place but allow the insert to slide back and forth within the track. The insert is then usually held in place with a pop rivet at each end of the rail. Refurbishment with factory inserts is not a difficult process provided you properly identify the manufacturer of your floor matting. The bad news is that the inserts for one manufacturer usually will not fit into the foot grilles of another manufacturer. Until recently, this has posed a major challenge for anyone wishing to refurbish their aluminum foot grilles.

There have been several breakthroughs over the years with regard to making old foot grilles look and perform like new. One of great interest actually replaces the factory carpet insert with an insert that possesses sometimes twice the carpet face weight. Furthermore, the inserts are comprised of a heavy denier solution dyed polypropylene which equates to durability and ease of maintenance. The generic term for this product is Diamond Strip. Perhaps the best part of the Diamond Strip inserts is that they fit into just about any of the foot grilles and installation can be performed by a low skilled technician.

If the aluminum portion of the foot grilles are in decent shape (i.e., not bent, broken or rocking, etc.), then refurbishment with a product like the Diamond Strip inserts will transform your foot grille from a tired, worn out has been floor mat into the high tech, high performance floor mat your architect intended for your building. Best of all, the expense for making your floor mat better will be less than the cost of buying a new foot grille!

Hiring a carpet cleaner is something that most homeowners do about once a year to have their carpets deep cleaned. Both methods are similar in principle but vary in what they use for a cleaning agent. Both of them are about as effective in the general cleaning of a carpet and do a great job of stain removal. The choice between them is really a matter of which one your particular carpet manufacturer recommends and your preference. The hot water extraction method has been used for quite a while and is the most popular type of commercial carpet cleaning. It relies on specialized equipment that is used by the carpet cleaner and can either be a self-contained appliance or can just be the nozzle wand assembly that is connected by a set of hoses to a van outside the house that holds the truck mounted machine equipment. The carpet cleaner will typically pre-treat areas of the carpet that are particularly dirty with a topical pre-spray treatment before starting to clean a room to help remove any high-traffic dirt or stains. The carpet cleaner will then use the hot water extraction machine to clean and dry the carpet. The process involves a cleaning solution being dispensed deep into the carpet. This solution is typically heated and will instantly dissolve the adhesive bond that holds most dirt and grease to the carpet fibers. Right after this solution is injected into the carpet, it is extracted by a very powerful vacuum from the carpet to avoid leaving the water in the fibers too long. Even still, the carpet will need 4 to 6 hours of drying time before you can use the room again. These hot water extraction cleaners are also available in most home improvement stores for rent, and allow the average homeowner to clean their carpets themselves. Just be careful that if you do decide to use one of these cleaners that you don’t get the carpet too wet. Make sure you extract as much of the water as possible so you avoid any problems with mold or mildew forming. The dry cleaning method is similar to the wet extraction method, but is done with a dry agent. This process is relatively new and relies on a chemical property called encapsulation. This property involves a dry cleaning agent that can bind to dirt and grease and dissolve their adhesive bonds, making their removal easy. There are really three different methods that are routinely referred to as dry cleaning and two of them actually use a very small amount of liquid to clean the carpet and are referred to as very low moisture (VLM) systems. This first method uses a dry compound to work and requires no liquid at all. This process involves spreading a dry cleaning powder over the carpet and working it into the fibers with a brush. This dry compound will lock onto the dirt and grease and break the adhesive bonds that hold them to the carpet fibers. Once this material has had a chance to work, it can be vacuumed up and will carry all of the grease and dirt from the carpeting with it.

The last two methods involved spreading a chemical agent on the carpet and either working it into the fibers with a rotating brush or a device called a bonnet that resembles a floor-waxing machine. Once this cleaning compound has had a chance to work, it is vacuumed up and the carpet is ready for use. Both of these methods work well and are actually VLM systems but leave the carpet dry and ready to use.

Nine times out of ten, when you say Persian rugs, people automatically picture an intricately designed carpet that is both beautiful and expensive. Nine times out of ten, the assumption they have about Persian rugs is correct, they are both beautiful and expensive. But, on that tenth time you may get something entirely different when you get Persian rugs.

The main difference in these carpets is the materials that are used to make them. Wool is the most frequently used material to create these carpets from. There are instances when cotton threads are used to craft them and there are instances when the weaver used silk threads to make the carpet.

Persian rugs that are crafted from silk threads are not as durable as the ones made from cotton or wool. Silk thread is not as strong as wool and cotton are, and because of the reduced amount of strength these items are more suitable to be hung on the wall than they are to be placed on the floor. Silk threaded carpets are far more expensive than the ones crafted from wool or cotton. Silk threads are more expensive and the price of the materials changes the price of the final product.

Most of the carpets crafted in this area of the world are made by hand on manual powered looms. Generations within a family pass the skills and patterns down to the next generation. You can find carpets that are made on automated looms, and these items will be priced lower than the hand-made versions are. The demand for more affordable carpets with the intricate designs created the necessity of making some of these items with machines that could perform mass production.

Some of the carpets take a few months to create. This is dependent on the size of the piece, the skill of the craftsman, and the quality of the threads they are using. Some of these items take years to complete. The price differences will be a reflection of the amount of time the weaver spent on the creation of the carpet.

There are different patterns, and different motifs, used by each different weaver and their family. You will find that the number of knots tied in each square inch of the carpet will be different. The more knots that are fit into each square inch; the more expensive the final carpet is. The typical rugs have between sixteen and five hundred and fifty knots. Some of the time the skill of the weaver will determine the number of knots per square inch and some of the time the quality of the threads used will cause the differences in the number of knots per square inch.

These carpets can be made with flat piles or with raised and lush pile. This difference will depend on the pattern and the person weaving the carpet.

Secure Removable Body Panels Using Rivet Nut Tools

The aircraft production industry has perfected the joining and secure fastening of airframe and other body panels using rivet nut tools. A rivet nut is a threaded fastener that is securely installed on the back side of fixed body panels and other internal components. They are especially handy where the joining covers will need to be removed for future maintenance and possible repairs. This makes rivet nuts tools a must have tool on an assembly line.

Rivets are commonly used in detailed industrial and aircraft production plants because of their ease of use and uniform strength. Sometimes there are plans that call for the same strength and fastening power in an area that requires a removable panel or in a tight area where a regular rivet would present issues or problems, and that is where rivet nut tools become necessary. The rivet sinks a threaded fastener nut on the back side of one of the surfaces that need to be secured, making it possible to fasten the panels with a high strength bolt. The speed of fencing bouts has increased over the years, and at the same time the amount of time allowed for the bout has decreased. Today the standard for pool bouts is 3 minutes of fencing time, down from the 6 minutes for men’s weapons and 5 minutes for women’s foil that were the rule when I started to fence in the 1960s. Although 3 minutes seems like not much time, almost no sabre bouts require the full 3 minutes, relatively few bouts go the full time in foil, with epee probably having the greatest number of bouts that run the full time limit. That suggests that, although the 3 minute limit is important in training, shorter times may have benefits as well. Enter the speed bout.

In the 2008 Olympics, Hungary was down 19 to 33 for the United States in Women’s Foil, when the Hungarian foilist Mohamed Aida stepped onto the strip for the last period of the team match. She ran an amazing 14 touches for only 2 answering touches in 3 minutes, or 4.7 touches per minute with a 7 to 1 ratio. Hungary lost 33 to 35, but Aida’s performance almost won the day for her country. In individual 15 touch bouts, with a regulation fencing time of 9 minutes, the fastest time to win with 15 touches was 21 seconds in sabre to 4 minutes 31 seconds for epee. The ability to fence fast when you are down is obviously critical in team events, and fencers in individual events have to be prepared to be equally quick.

One of the best ways to train to fence bouts is to fence practice bouts, a lot of them. Therefore, it seems logical that one of the best ways to learn to fence fast when time is important is to fence fast bouts. I have found two approaches useful.

First, impose a time limit on practice bouts fenced without a referee. Instead of using fencing time, the time between the commands to fence and to halt, use an actual time limit the same as the bout’s fencing time limit. From the first “fence” to the last “halt” is 3 minutes, including time spent walking back to the on guard line, adjusting the mask, discussing whose touch it is, etc. Using an organized rotation, this can be made into the fencing equivalent of speed dating, moving fencers on to new opponents every 3 minutes.

When you first do this, the high score in 3 minute bouts will drop from 5 to 3, or even 2, especially among intermediates without tournament experience. However, the fencers will adjust to the reduced fencing time by fencing faster and eliminating time wasters that eat up practice time.

Second, fence for a maximum number of bouts in a set time period. My Salle runs Fence Til You Drop as a fun event each January 1st, with the rule that the winner is the fencer who fences the most bouts, won or lost, in 2 hours. Because the objective is to get people moving after the doldrums of the Christmas-New Year holiday season, we do not worry about the won-loss ratio or indicators. However, these would be easy enough to add to the equation to more closely model competition, and to eliminate losing as quickly as possible as a strategy. To increase throughput we fence dry – the record set in January 2012 is 75 bouts in 120 minutes.

The standard competition pool and direct elimination bouts have a tactical rhythm to them that depends on the interval between halt and fence to plan the next touch. Being able to manipulate that interval with delaying techniques has always been an important part of bout tactics.
