Programming Alarm Lock Trilogy Units

Using DL Windows

Using the DL Windows software is the best way to keep your Access Control system operating at peak performance. Unfortunately, sometimes working with this software is foreign to new users and may seem like a daunting task. The following, is a list of information and tips to help guide you along your way.

1. Create a shortcut on your desktop to open the DL Windows program, and double click.

2. You will be prompted for a username (default) and a password. If you have not created this information yet, just hit enter on your keyboard and you will be logged in.

3. The next step is to click on the "open" button, which is located in the top right corner.

4. This white window that extends down the right hand side, is "accounts section"

5. Select the account you wish you work with (usually your business name) and hit the (+) drop down to display the door selections.

6. If you are sending information to the lock, or receiving information from the lock (audit trail) select the door you wish to work with. If you are simply making changes to user information, then just double click any door.

7. The screen that has now opened is the screen you will use to send / receive information. If you notice, there is a button located in the bottom left on the new window that reads "send / receive," this button is not needed at this time.

8. To make changes to users, including name, pin number, card numbers, access to specific doors, you will need to click on the "global" button located on the same bar that the "open" button was found.

9. The global screen is where you will always make changes to this information.

10. To add users, simply click a blank box in the name column (located on the left) and then switch to the middle of the window and manually type in the users first and last name, their pin number or enter their card information in the appropriate fields.

11. Once the information is entered and the blank box, located on the left hand side, has a name and pin / card information, you can grant access to this user with the numbered blocks in the right hand corner.

12. These blocks represent doors. By double clicking a white block, you will turn it green. If you double click again, the block will turn red. And if you double click one more time, it will turn back to white. The Flying Locksmiths recommend that you never turn any block white. Leave users either red or green.

13. Green grants the user access. Red denies access. White does not register anything, and will not show up during an audit trail, rendering it useless. AVOID WHITE BLOCKS.

14. Once you have entered all of the user names and turned them green / red, you can start grouping the users into time zones. If you are not using time zones, please go ahead and download our upload guide to load information into the lock.

15. To create a time zone click "schedule" located in the same bar as "open" and "global"

16. This screen displays a "start time" and an "stop time" that can be changed by clicking in the box and typing your desired time of granting access and time of denying access. This timeframe will not be tied to everyone. Only the people you will set it too.

17. Once you have entered to desired times, navigate to the bottom portion of the screen and next to "event number 1" under "description" typically type the action that is going to take place during this time. This could be enable group, auto open, auto lock, etc.

18. Next, under "user or group ID", set the group number you want to associate to this time zone. It's recommended that you avoid group # 2 to avoid complications with other setting later on. Or if you are not associating time zones to groups of people and you just wish to have the lock open and close at certain times, leave this field empty.

19. Next, under "event" click the box to bring up the drop down menu and select the action that you wish to take place during your time zone.

20. Finally, under "time zone" select the time zone you created above. Your time zone number is displayed in the top right corner of this window.

21. Once your time zone information is all set, click "Switch to Sched. View" which will save the information.

22. Close this screen and return to the global window. (If you are just working on a auto open and auto unlock than download our upload instructions and proceed.)

23. In the global window, select the people who are restricted within your newly created time zone, and and click "set group assignment" located under the prox card information.

24. Just like the door selection process, turn the white block to green for the group number you have associated with the time zone. (remembering to avoid group 2)

25. Once you have allocated your group to each individual, you are ready to send the information.

26. Click here for uploading instructions.

Add Another Lock Instructions

In DL Windows

Did You Know a Sinus Infection Can Be Life Threatening?

Everyone at one time or another has a sinus infection, also known as sinusitis, or knows someone that has a sinus infection. There are two types of sinus infections; acute and chronic.

Usually an acute sinusitis is caused by the harmless bacteria that live in most peoples upper respiratory tracts. If you catch a cold and get the sniffles and then you nose clogs up and your face hurts, then most likely the cold has gone into a sinusitis. It can last up to two weeks and responds quite nicely to medical therapy.

You may not know that the chronic form of sinusitis is the most common form. Hard to believe but estimates show that almost 40 million people will suffer with chronic sinus infection this year and it will last each of them up to 3 months and even when they think it is gone it might flare back up and last another 3 months.

Of course for both acute and chronic sinusitis the symptoms are the same:

  • Facial pain
  • Teeth hurt
  • Bad breath
  • Nasal congestion
  • Nausea
  • Erythema
  • Hard to breath through your nose
  • Fever
  • Tenderness and pain in the eyes, cheeks, nose and forehead
  • Sore throat

It is important at this point to talk about the complications of sinusitis. First off if you get a bad sinus infection you should see your doctor. He is the only one that can really tell you if everything is alright and to help you get better. The days of staying home and self medicating should be over when it comes to this illness. If left undiagnosed and untreated sinus infections can create sever medical problems and even death.

Pott's Puffy Tumor – If you have fever, headache and soft tissue swelling over the frontal sinus you just may have this disease. Pott's puffy tumor is a serious complication of bacterial frontal sinusitis and consistants of a subperiosteal abscess and osteomylitis of the frontal bone and can lead to death

Ethmoid sinusitis -Ethmoid sinuses are between the eye sockets and above the nose and drain into the nose. Symptoms of Ethmoiditis are: Pain inside of the eye, pain down one side of the nose, headache by eye or temple, fever, drooping eyelid, loss of eye movement, bad breath, and changes in vision, fixed or dilated pupils

Brain Infection -A sinus infection can become so bad that the infection leaks through the barrier into the brain. If you notice personality changes or altered awareness, then see a doctor immediately, because a brain infection that started out as a sinus infection is one thing that can lead to coma or death.

If you have any concerns or worries when you get a sinus infection then see your doctor. He will then have the time to diagnose the problem and get you started on the right treatment. Given that there is always the outside chance of something going bad without having treatment, what do you have to lose?

Monthly Vs Daily In RV Tenant Occupancy

When first buy an RV park, you assume that everyone will check in for a night or two, and then be on their way. However, you soon find out that customers' needs are anything but that simple. Many RV owners intend to stay in one spot for an extended period The reasons include:

Temporary relocation due to working on a project (building a Walmart, etc.)

Staying near a hospital during a surgery and recovery

Permanent tenancy in a RV (primary residence)

Temporary relocation due to winter weather ("snowbirds" that go south in the winter)

Folks who are traveling in their RV but like to stay in one spot during the whole vacation.

Although daily rates of $ 20 or more look attractive to you in these instances, they do not look that great to the customer. Especially is you are in a market where a monthly lot rent in a mobile home park goes for $ 150. As a result, it's important to have a special rate package just for this unusual but common subset of customers.

If you have mobile homes in your park that are permanent and paying you lot rent, then the fair thing to do is to offer this same rent to the RVs, provided that they will agree to stay for at least a month and set up and pay their own utilities – just like a mobile home customer.

If you do not have any mobile homes in your park, then you are going to have to do some research to find out a fair rent. Call all of the mobile home and RV parks in your market to see what they charge "by the month". You will have to remain, to stay competitive, in this price range. However, if you have some real additional benefit, such as lake frontage, you can probably go higher according to how desirable your park is. Be sure and ask what utilities are included in the monthly rent – you need to compare apples to apples.

When suggesting that the RV customer move into a "by the month" lot, be sure to use the price as the big driver in your sale. If daily is $ 20, and monthly is $ 200, then the RV customer will save $ 400 per month (minus electricity) by changing over to a monthly situation. This is compelling to almost everyone!

Of course, it is important to leave your most desirable "overnight" lots available, if possible. These lots are what attract new customers. Tell the monthly RV customer that those lots are reserved for true overnights. Do not tie up these choice lots on a monthly basis – you will actually lose customers as a result.

What are the benefits of "monthly" RV customers over "daily" to you as park owner?

Stability of cash flow. $ 20 a day is OK, if it happens every day. If it only happens for one day every month, then $ 150 or so looks even better.

Reduced damage. The number one cause of problems in an RV park is what happens when RVs move in or out. That's when utilities get run over and ruptured, and ruts put in the ground.

Barrier to moving, after a while. If you've done a good job, you will just be too "easy" to consider moving to another RV park, even at a lower price. Sometimes on monthly RV, the city will require the tenant to "hardwire" the power service to the home, making it more like a permanent structure than an RV. Plus many RVs skirt their RV over time to improve pipe freezing problems, etc.

There is no better feeling than knowing that you have enough RV park revenues in just the "by the month" customers to pay your bills and note payment. The daily RV side of the business can be the gravy.

So be sure to convert your customer to the appropriate monthly opportunity – before someone else does!

Door Handles – Choosing One to Match Your Home

Door handles, just like general architecture and interior design, has evolved in design and function through centuries. Some say that the first one appeared in 1878 in the USA, while other accounts state that this type of hardware was already being used since the 18th century. Regardless of the exact date it came to, this device today comes in a variety of looks and useful features.

Home furnishing stores and handyman shops carry many interesting designs, usually ranging from Georgian to modern minimalist, mainly to complete the overall architecture of private and public structures.

Those who fancy traditional or antique designs may prefer a Georgian look, which are the styles that appeared from 1720 to 1840 and named after the four British monarchs of the time who were all named George. Its simplicity and proportion still grace many buildings in the world today, from private homes to government offices. Typically, a Georgian house has a flat front with sash windows and a Palladian door set back a few inches from the façade wall. If you have a Georgian home, your door would look superb with a simple brass door knob. If you have kids, an elderly or a person with disability living in your house, a better option is a brass door lever, because it is easier to use than a knob.

The Victorian era also influenced building designs across the globe. This ornate and grandiose architecture named after Queen Victoria herself features the front door as the focal point of the facade. Small intrate windows and colors give life to the hardwood door. If you fancy its grandeur, you would want to visit stores offering crystal glass or porcelain door handles. Any of the said types would complete a perfect Victorian picture.

Similar to the Victorian but less opulent are Edwardian homes. Like the Georgian and the Victorian designs, the Edwardian is named also after the British ruler at the time the architectural style was current. During King Edward VII's rule, the main entrance doors often feature subtly stained glass windows. Some were also painted with bright red or green. Brass knockers and knobs are the devices usually attached to them.

In addition to the classical styles of architectural design, Art Deco or Moderne structures can also be seen in various countries. The influence of geometric shapes, asymmetrical lines and bright colors adorn houses of this style. Their front doors typically have colored glasses in cubes, triangles and other geometric patterns. Polished brass or polished chrome plated brass door handles would go well with these.

You can not be blamed if you want a perfectly designed house, especially if you have worked hard to have it. So, go ahead and take your time when you visit a hardware store to make the perfect pick for your home.

Choosing the Right Soldering Iron for Electronics Work

Dan, one of my Facebook buddies, wrote to me asking about choosing a soldering iron:

"Quick question … I'm looking for a new soldering iron. Would you recommend anything under 40 dollars without a soldering station? I'm getting tired of my RadioShack 45 watt iron with the screw on tips (and having to use a bench grinder everyday to clean the tips). "

I've been asked this question quite a bit, so I thought it was time to put something together explaining about soldering irons, flux and tinning.

Soldering Iron
The first thing I would recommend is getting an adjustable temperature soldering iron, and get used to setting the correct temperature for the different types of parts you are working with – hotter for larger gauge, and cooler for thinner, finer work. I typically work in the 325F to 400F range. I've been using the Velleman LAB1U, it has a built in multi-meter and power supply. These can be a bit pricey, so check out the Weller brand – sometimes they go on sale for around $ 40. I would avoid the Cold Heat soldering irons – they are unsuitable for delicate electronics, as are the big soldering "gun" type irons.

I used to use quite large gauge solder and tips, but just recently (after doing a lot of surface-mount work) switched to 1/32 "tip and 0.32" diameter solder. This allows for much finer control with less overspill.

My soldering iron has a built in "damp sponge" to clean off excess sold between uses. In the past I have used regular paper towels to do the same job, but a dedicated sponge with a circular hole cut in the middle really works best.

Helping Hands
The next thing I would not be without is some "Helping Hands" – these are pairs of crocodile clips that can be used to hold the workpiece while you concentrate on the soldering. this is really important, as it will not be long before you realize that you need 4 hands to solder things.

Even better than helping hands is a:

Bench Vice / Vise
I bought one of these 2 years ago and it's proven to be invaluable. The brand I use is "PanaVise" and they come with a range of bases and options – Fry's carries them, and they are available online. You can put the whole PCB you are working on into the vice, insert the components and then just flip it over to solder.

Flux Pen
Rosin Flux is a substance that encourages the solder to flow. If you find that you are having trouble getting a good sold joint then it's probably because the heat transfer is not working correctly, or the components are dirty. Applying some solder flux to the joint area will really help – I've been using a flux pen for years and would not want to be without one. An alternative is flux paste – like toothpaste it comes in a tube and can be applied with the fingers.

Tip Tinner and Cleaner
When you first fit a new soldering iron tip it will be bright, shiny and very difficult to work with. The solder will not stick to it and so you can not "tin" the tip properly. Some people will use fine sandpaper to break in a new tip but I prefer to dip the new tip into some RadioShack "Tip Tinner and Cleaner". This starts the process nicely. It's also a good idea to dip the soldering iron after you are finished, and before you switch off. I find that it really helps to prevent the tip from wearing out prematurely.

Fume extractor
If you do a lot of soldering, then you need to get something installed on your bench to divert the fumes away from your face. It's not recommended to breath in solder fumes at all. I use a small fan, but a proper extractor is a very good idea.

Wire Cutters
The final piece of essential equipment is a pair of sharp, flat bottomed wire cutters. These are used to trim off excess component wire (the "leg") after soldering. The flat bottom is important to get the cut as close to the PCB as possible. Do not go too cheap with these, I paid about $ 17 for mine.

That just about covers the basics of soldering, I would also think about getting a loupe (magnifier), some solder wick and solder "sucker" for removal, wire strippers and isopropyl alcohol and an old toothbrush for flux removal.

Very soon I'll put together a series of articles on soldering technique – covering basic through-hole assembly, and the more advanced surface-mount technology.

How to Start Eating Healthy

Start Eating Healthy

To be able to eat healthy, you need to understand what the body needs to stay healthy and functional. Your body needs food for three main reasons. Firstly as fuel, to keep us warm and supply the energy we need to stay alive and to move about and work. Secondly, food supplies the necessary materials for growth and to repair worn tissues. Thirdly we need vitamins, minerals and other substances that are necessary for the chemical processes that take place inside our bodies.

The energy supplied by food is measured as kilojoules. Two-thirds of this energy is used to maintain our normal body temperature, the normal tone of our muscles and to keep our heart and other vital organs functional and healthy. Even when we stay in bed all day we will still need about two-thirds of our normal food intake to maintain our metabolic systems. Normal activities such as getting dressed, eating, walking, working and playing requires about 3350 kilojoules. A housewife uses about 9200 kilojoules to perform her basic household tasks.

The harder we work and the more we move about the more kilojoules we use up. Whatever kilojoules we use up in our daily activities, is supplied by food, but if we consume more kilojoules / food than the body needs you will gain mass. The aim of Eating Healthy is to get the balance right.

If you are NOT currently eating healthy, it can be difficult to start such a plan. IF you truly want to live the best lifestyle possible, then it is important for you to follow these tips to start eating more healthy. Firstly, rid your home of all foods that do not fall into the healthy categories. Keep junk foods and beverages out of your house, so that you will not be tempted. Keep healthy snacks like carrot sticks, yogurt, fresh fruit, or whole-wheat crackers on hand. In case you cannot bear to toss out the sweets, try keeping something on hand, like chocolate chips. Eating a few of these won’t ruin your diet but also will give you that little sugary fix you rave.

Secondly, take a few moments to learn about what foods are the healthiest for you and how they work in the body. Most people understand what fruits, vegetables, and low-fat means and that dairy products are good for you, but few people understand why.

What Does Vitamins and Nutrients Mean?

Vitamins and Nutrients nourishes the body. They consist of micro- and macro-nutrients which is essential for good health and is consumed in small amounts. These are absorbed by the body unchanged and have catalytic functions. Vitamins are classified as fat-soluble (A, D, E and K) or water-soluble (B and C). The former and vit. B12 tend to be stored in the body. Many elements present in food are essential for health such as calcium, phosphorus and potassium. Others termed trace-elements are iron, zinc and iodine.

Carbohydrates, fats and proteins are macro-nutrients and when digested turns into glucose, fatty acids, peptides and amino acids. Macro-nutrients are interchangeable sources of energy. If sufficient non-protein calories are not available, the body cannot produce proteins for tissue maintenance. Tissue replacements and growth does not occur and considerable more dietary proteins is required for positive nitrogen balance. The polyunsaturated fatty acids are termed essential fatty acids (EFA) and must be included in your diet. The EFA and B6 is crucial in the functions of the metabolism.

Fiber mainly a complex mixture of indigestible carbohydrate material is a natural and much neglected component of the normal diet. Fiber components act in various ways for instance, prevention of constipation. Many intestinal diseases ie: colon cancer, Crohn’s disease, obesity, varicose veins and hemorrhoids are associated with the lack of fiber in the diet. Fruit and vegetables rich in pectins reduce plasma cholesterol by enhancing hepatic cholesterol, to bile acids and reduces the forming of gallstones. Fiber is the most important part of any diet.

Five Basic Groups of Nutrients

The key is learning about nutrients. When you understand how specific nutrients work in the body, you will be more likely to make healthy choices.

No single food is essential to our diet. What is important is to eat a variety of foods, there are five basic groups:

Proteins for building up the body. Throughout life there is a continuous breakdown and loss of body tissues. If a person does not get enough protein to make up for this loss, some of the less vital protein tissues in the body, such as muscles are broken down to maintain vital organs like the heart and kidneys. Illnesses cause a considerable loss of protein like infections, burns, broken bones and the stress after surgery.

Carbohydrates provide energy. Carbohydrates is a collective term for sugars, starches and cellulose. Most sugars are eaten in the form of sweets, jams, biscuits, cakes and drinks. A small amount is from fruit. Starches are found in potatoes, rice, pastas, wheat and maize. When we eat starches it gets broken down to glucose which is absorbed into the blood stream as a form of sugar. Cellulose is not a source of energy but it is needed in the diet, because of it’s major source of fibre or roughage. It stays undigested in the intestines to promote regular bowel movements.

Fats provide energy and flavour. Fat is contained in milk products like cheese, cream, butter and meat (visible around tjops or hidden in the fibres), fatty fish like pilchards, kabeljou and eggs. Fats have several roles in the diet directly because of its nutritional value and indirectly in improving foods and making them easier to chew and swallow. Vitamins like A,D,E and K are found in these fatty foods and following a low fat diet you need to supplement these shortfalls. Fats are very important because of the energy it provides, it is twice as much as carbohydrates or protein. Fatty foods remain longer in the stomach than low-fat foods, so they provide a greater feeling of fullness.

Natural or Organic?

The term “Health Foods” include natural and organic grown fruit and vegetables, various pills and herbs. Some of these foods are nutritionally good and some such as herbs and ginseng are unproven. The term “Health Food” is very misleading since it implies that all other foods are unhealthy.

Vegetarianism: There is nothing nutritionally wrong with being a vegetarian, in fact most nutritionist recommend this type of diet because it is high in diet fibre, low in fats, more fruit and vegetables. Many vegetarians eat eggs and drink milk, on the other hand some don’t use animal products at all and are as far as known very healthy.

Whole Foods: Whole foods are better than refined foods. This means that wholewheat bread and flour are healthier than white bread and flour. Choosing unrefined rice and maize rather than refined. Brown sugar is very little different from white sugar.

Organic Grown Foods: Most farmers and gardeners fertilize their soil with sulfate of ammonia, potash and phosphate ect. They also add manure and compost as much as they can find. Advocates of organic farming claims that the use of chemicals is artificial and that foods that are grown naturally are more superior. In fact there is no difference between them. Organic farmers avoid the use of chemicals, weed killers and pesticides. A few tasting trials that were carried out, could not distinguish which are organically grown and inorganically fertilized foods. Nutritionally they are the same.

Sea salt: Most salt comes from underground mines and is highly purified. It usually have some magnesium carbonate (a harmless mineral salt) added to make it flow freely. Sea salt contains natural Iodine.

Honey: Honey is simply sugar and water with very small traces of several vitamins and mineral salts. The food value of a teaspoon of honey is the same as a ¾ teaspoon of ordinary table sugar.

Cider Vinegar, Kelp, “Live” Yogurt and Ginseng: Cider vinegar is made of re-fermented cider, meaning, it is made in a similar way as wine vinegar. Nutritionally it provides a few calories and nothing else.

Kelp is a seaweed and a source of iodine which is an essential nutrient with a few mineral salts of lessor importance. It has no special food value.

“Live” Yogurt contains the bacteria which turned the milk into yogurt, whereas ordinary yogurt has usually the bacteria killed by pasteurisation. If it was made of full cream milk instead of skim milk powder, it would have tasted better and of nutritional value, not because of the bacteria that are still alive. The bacteria do not survive inside the human intestines and do not provide any benefits.

Ginseng is the root of a bush that grows in China and Korea. A vast range of magical properties is attributed to it, again no evidence or truth that it works has ever been found.

Balanced Vitamins: Most health shops sell tablets of balanced vitamins that have been extracted from wheat, yeast or liver instead of being synthesised in a factory. They were balanced so far as the wheat plant or the yeast or the animal’s liver were concerned BUT they are not balanced for Human needs. Wheat contains very little B2. Vit B1 in yeast extract steadily falls while it sits on the shelf. The B vitamins in the liver extract will depend on how the animal was fed.

Herbs: Herbs have a mystical appeal since they were used as medicines for centuries. Some of them have no effect, some contains poison like Comfrey and Rhubarb and some contain small amounts of drugs like Fennel. Some modern medicines are extracted from herbs, quinine was originally extracted from tree bark. Pleasant drinks can be made from some herbs, leaves and petals but they have no beneficial effects.

Healthy Eating at a Restaurant: Is it Possible?

If you and your family love to eat out, you may think that this lifestyle is not good for a healthy diet. In many cases, you would be correct. You can still enjoy eating out at restaurants and maintain your healthy diet. It’s all about making good food choices, which starts with learning about the nutritional value of the food you eat and what your body needs to stay physically healthy, mentally stable, and active.

When you pick up the menu, start by skipping over the alcoholic drinks section. Although you may be tempted to enjoy a beer or mixed beverage with your dinner, these usually have many “bad” calories, which is not good for your body. The exception to this rule is when it comes to wine, especially red wine, which can be fine if you have a single glass.

Skip the appetizer menu, unless it’s a salad. The appetizers at restaurants are usually high-fat foods that are not meant to fill you up and can in fact make you crave for more. Examples of these are mozzarella sticks, potato skins, and chicken wings. Simply focus on the main course or if you must indulge, share a single serving with someone at your table.

Choosing the main dish is very important. Look at the ingredients of the dish. Anything with cream sauces or high-fat meats should be avoided and pass the potatoes and onion rings. Instead order side dishes like green salad and vegetables or ask for just the main course when possible.

Remember that portions is everything. Try to order from the lunch menu whenever you can, and ask for a doggie-bag right away. Split your meal in half from the start, so that you are not tempted to eat the entire plate, which is usually enough for two or three portions.

SKIP the desert menu, just like you did with the appetizers. If you have to have desert share or split your portion in half. Many fancy desserts at restaurants have more calories than your entire meal, so keep this in mind before you flag down the waitress to put in an order! Of course, on special occasions, it’s alright to cheat a little, but overall healthy eating requires lots of resisting temptations around you.

Healthy Eating While Traveling

Sticking to healthy foods while traveling can be one of the most difficult things to do in your life. If you learn how to make smart choices, then healthy eating is really not that difficult. This is probably not the best time to start a healthy eating program, but if you are currently making healthy choices in your foods already, modifying your diet slightly to accommodate travel is not as it first may seem.

When you are traveling by airplane, you may have to eat airplane food which can often be of poor quality, depending on the selection. When you book your flight, ask about your food options and ask if a vegetarian dish is available. Vegetarian dishes are sometimes more nutritional in this case, but it really depends on what they will be serving. If you can eat a larger meal before your flight, you don’t have to eat the meal that is served.

When driving or taking a bus, you may be tempted to stop at fast food restaurants. Avoid this whenever possible! If you’re on vacation, you may wish to splurge a tiny bit, but having fast foods more than once during a week can really be bad for you. If you must, choose the healthiest options available chicken breasts and diet soda is good choices.

Remember that you can take your own food when traveling. Carrying a loaf of whole-wheat bread or pita wraps, some lean lunch meat, and low-fat cheese in a cooler is a great way to avoid high-fat and high-cholesterol junk food meals. These are much better choices and you’ll save a lot of money as well. Call ahead to ask if there will be a refrigerator in your hotel room.

Lastly, make smart choices when you eat out. If you choose salads or pasta get the dressing on the side and ask about low-carb options. In fact, many places print these options directly in the menu for the health conscious people. Control your portions by ordering lunch menu sizes or splitting the meal in half and don’t forget to get a doggie bag. You’ll be well on your way to healthy eating, even away from home.

Yes, eating healthy foods when you travel can be a challenge. Your health is worth it. When you eat good foods, you will also fight off illnesses that you are likely to encounter when traveling and you will be more alert so that you can enjoy your trip.

Healthy Eating and Peer Pressure

Whether you are on a diet or simply enjoying a healthy lifestyle, you probably know that peer pressure to eat foods that are not good for you, is a major part of your life. If you are concerned about the food that goes into your stomach, don’t worry, there are ways to overcome peer pressure. It simply takes a little know-how to get people off your back!

Parties are a major source of peer pressure, especially with alcohol. Alcohol contains hundreds of calories in just one drink take beer for an example: “one beer equals a loaf of bread” so when you go to a party, people might be pressuring you to have a drink and relax. It can be difficult to say no when they are constantly trying to convince you. Offer to go with to a bar instead. That way, you become the designated driver, they won’t want you to drink and drive, in fact, they will not pressurise you to drink. It’s a win-win situation for everyone.

Other times when you may feel under pressure to eat, is at work, when the boss orders lunch for everyone at a meeting or when you have to visit a client. Instead of giving in to temptation, simply politely decline the food by letting your boss know in advance or order a meal that is healthy and split the portion in half so you have a meal for tomorrow’s lunch as well.

Baby showers, weddings, birthday parties, and other special events can also wreak havoc on your diet, even if you are good at resisting temptation on your own. When someone hands you a piece of cake and won’t take no for an answer, it can be difficult to know what to say! Here a little white lie might be appropriate. For instance, say that your stomach was upset earlier in the day, will convince a person that you don’t want to eat at the moment or pretending to have a chocolate allergy, will get people to allow you to enjoy the party without a hassle surrounding food.

Refusing bad foods is fine, you should be eating good foods.

If you do not change your eating habits, disorders can develop, which will give your family, friends and doctor a real reason to be worried about your health. It’s ok to say no to peer pressure, but don’t say no to food in general!

What Are the Side-Effects of Wisdom Teeth Extraction?

There are numerous problems that can arrise following the removal of wisdom teeth. A common complication is a dry socket, an unpleasant problem that develops in the days after extraction. The cause of dry socket is when either the clot fails to form effectively around the wound, or the clot forms but is shed prematurely. Therefore the actual wound is 'dry'. The bone is uncoovered, which can result in a fair degree of pain.

Any dry socket commonly comes from the second day after wisdom teeth removal. The pain from it may spread out from the area and even to your ears. One can notice a bad taste in the mouth and also halitosis. Dry socket is a lot more likely to occur when you smoke within 24 hours of extraction, or if you do not keep to the after-care information your dental-care professional gives.

If you feel you do have the problem, go to your dentist. The socket has to be washed free of any kind of debris. The dentist will then administrator some sort of dressing to alleviate your pain and reduce the inflammation in the socket.

Aside from dry socket, there are other possible complications from wisdom tooth extraction. These issues may include extended bleeding, some bruising and infection of the gum around the extraction site. Trauma to your neighboring teeth or alternatively teeth fillings can be a possibility, as is breaking the roots of the wisdom tooth. If a root breaks, the remaining part of root might be either removed or if it is small it could be left in position. An infection from the bone tissue might set in, but this is rare within healthy people. You may experience some jaw pains and tightness also.

Other side effects may include: Nerve injury with resulting pins and needles around that region. This is a rare problem and usually a short-lived problem if it occurs. It can affect feeling through the lower lip and also chin. It could likewise affect taste and feeling from your tongue area. Another problem is jaw bone fracturing through the force applied when removing the tooth. This situation is extremely rare and in most cases only happens in elderly people, due due to fragile bone and / or bone disease.

Even though long-term side effects are uncommon, you bought to be informed about the dangers. These dangers should be taken into consideration whenever the selection to remove wisdom teeth is made. You may be more prone to certain side-effects, for example neural damage, depending on exactly where a wisdom tooth lies.

To sum up, getting your wisdom teeth removed may include a fair level of minor surgery. As with just about any surgical procedure, there are certain possible complications. These include frequently encountered problems; for instance dry socket, bruising and / or tenderness. There are then the less likely side effects; for instance nerve damage. Your dentist or oral surgeon should tell you of the possibilities and discuss any of the side effects you're specifically at risk of.

Steps To Prepare Income And Expenditure Account

The steps are as follows:

1. Ignore opening and dosing cash and bank balances appearing in receipts and payments account.

2. Eliminate all items of capital receipts and payments.

3. Ascertain income of the relevant year by deducting from the total receipts the income received on account of previous and future years and by adding the income accrued due in the year but not received and income received in the previous year but relating to this year.

4. Ascertain expenditure of the relevant period by deducting expenditure both relating to preceding period and succeeding period from the total payments and by adding the expenditure outstanding at the end and expenditure prepaid in the beginning.

5. Make adjustments, as per additional information, such as depreciation, bad debts etc., if any.

6. The income and expenditure account, when balanced, will disclose surplus (if the credit side is bigger) or deficit (if the debit side is bigger). If surplus i.e. excess on income over expenditure add it to the capital or accumulated fund. However, if deficit i.e., excess of expenditure over income deduct it from the capital or accumulated fund.

Distinction between receipt and income

“Receipt” means total cash received during the current year. But “income” means total income earned for the current year.

The points of distinction between the two are stated below :-

1. Any cash received in regarded as receipt.

2. It is not confined to any accounting year. In other words, it may include cash received for any year-past, present or future.

3. It may be of both capital and revenue nature.

4. In case of receipt, cash increases equal to amount of receipt.

5. An item can’t be called “receipt” unless equivalent amount of cash received.

6. It is recorded on debit side of cash book.

7. It is not included in final accounts. In other words, it is not considered in determining the result of concern.

1. Any cash received mayor may not be regarded as income. Cash received for current year is regarded only as income.

2. It is confined to current accounting year only.

3. It is of revenue nature only.

4. In case of income cash may not increase equal to the amount of income.

5. An item may be “income”, even though cash has not been received.

6. It is credited to income and expenditure account.

7. It must be considered in final accounts.

Distinction between payment and expenditure

Payment means total cash paid during the current year. But expenditure means total expenses incurred for the current year only.

The points of distinction between the two, are as follows :-

1. Any cash paid in regarded as payments.

2. It is not confined to any accounting year, i.e. it may include cash paid for any year-past, present or future.

3. It may be of both capital and revenue nature.

4. In case of payment, cash decreases equal to amount of payment.

5. An item can’t be called “payment” unless equivalent amount of cash is paid.

6. It is recorded on credit side of cash book, i.e. credited to cash account.

7. It is not included in final accounts. In other words, it is not considered in determining the result of concern.

1. Any cash paid mayor may not be regarded as expenditure.

2. It is confined to current accounting year only.

3. It is of revenue nature only.

4. Cash mayor may not decrease equal to the amount of expenditure.

5. An item may be “expenditure” even though cash has not been paid.

6. It is debited to income and expenditure account.

7. It must be considered in final accounts.

The Secret to Samuel Morse and His Electric Telegraph

“There is nothing now left for invention to achieve but to discover new before it takes place,” a reporter on the New York Herald reported in 1844. The journalist was referring to the electric telegraph, an invention borne of the Industrial Revolution that transformed how the American West was ‘won.’

In the space of twenty years the telegraph became the standard means of communication for all the disparate elements in this vast landscape. Suddenly soldier, rancher and railroad operator could send messages long distance in minutes through copper wires strung up on poles that snaked across the landscape like a rash. By 1861 the Pony Express, on which the nation had relied, had been consigned to history.

And one man in particular, Samuel Morse, had become very wealthy. It was his single circuit telegraph system that was installed across the country, and his name that is inextricably linked worldwide with its invention.

Yet Nineteenth Century archives reveal numerous examples of individuals working in the field of telegraphy: men such as the Victorian scientist and inventor Charles Wheatstone. He would have been keen to point out that his ABC telegraph system had been operative on the Great Western Railway in Britain for six years when Samuel Morse transmitted “What hath God wrought” in 1844.

Scientists and historians regard the invention of the telegraph as a series of small, interlinking discoveries going back to Roger Bacon, the thirteenth Century monk and philosopher. So how did someone who started his career as an artist triumph over them?

Morse never claimed to be a great scientist, or an accomplished artist. He was an entrepreneur, brimming with ideas, who made things happen. From his days as an undergraduate at Yale he comfortably straddled two worlds.

The young Morse was equally at home with the arts as he was with the sciences. When not listening to Professor Dale lecturing on electricity, he could be found with brush and canvas in a studio. Morse enjoyed studying Art at the Royal Academy in London as much as he relished listening to Professor Dana on electromagnetism and electricity in the New York Athenaeum.

Consciously or unconsciously, Morse refused to be pigeon-holed. Paradoxically, this dual personality may have actually helped him. Echoing the great polymaths of the Enlightenment, his focus was always broad and his mind always open to new ideas.

Samuel Morse absorbed knowledge like a sponge. He never missed an opportunity to discuss and learn from others. Returning home from Europe on the packet ship ‘Sully’ in 1832, he fell into conversation with a fellow passenger, the American physician and scientist Charles Thomas Jackson.

Morse, for whom the idea of using electricity by means of a telegraph came to him in Paris, wasn’t shy about interrogating Jackson. He was keen to ask him about his recent studies with the great French scientists: men like Ampere and his work on electromagnetism.

The two men also shared what they knew on Benjamin Franklin and the velocity of electricity. Once back on American soil, Samuel Morse wasted little time in conversing with the American physicist Joseph Henry, who had recently invented a working telegraph.

Samuel Morse not only accumulated data, he collected people. He was very good at cultivating men of influence and assembling the right people around him. No one man can do it all, he recognised. The inventor was astute enough to judge when to hire influence and expertise, and shrewd enough to recognise it when he saw it.

Morse needed $30,000, a substantial sum, to make his idea a reality and knew the government could provide it. But he realised they weren’t going to give it away willy-nilly and he needed an influential voice.

He was able to call on two such voices. Congressman F.O.J (Francis Ormond Jonathan) Smith from Maine secured the necessary funding, along with long-time friend and first Commissioner of the Patent Office Henry Ellsworth. As a gesture of thanks Morse allowed Ellsworth’s daughter to craft that first telegraphic message.

In Alfred Vail, Morse recognised someone with the mechanical skills needed to build his machine. Vail also had a father, Morse observed, with an ironworks that offered the perfect workshop in which to build the machine. For good measure Vail senior also helped fund trips to Europe to secure patents there. As for the running of the day to day business, Morse knew he could rely on Amos Kendall, the former Postmaster-General.

All of these people helped Morse for a reason. Some, like, Ellsworth, liked him; others, such as Smith, scented money to be made. All saw in this man one particular quality – passion. Morse had an enthusiasm that was infectious. Vail, as a student at the University of the City of New York, watched spellbound as Morse stretched out 1700 feet of wire spanning 2 classrooms. So impressed was the young man that he persuaded his father to back the entrepreneur.

One quality people who met the inventor quickly appreciated was his tenacity. The application for patent of his electric telegraph machine took 5 long years. Vail lost interest and returned to Philadelphia to work for his father, but Morse never gave up.

It perhaps explains why, with his name on the patent, Morse accepted all the recognition when the rewards came – in spite of the fact that Vail contributed in large part to the success of Morse’s Code, including refinement of the sending key and the printing telegraph.

Once patent was granted and sales took off, Morse never relaxed. He fought to the end for recognition as the first to produce a single-circuit telegraph, in the face of governmental as well as peer reluctance to acknowledge his achievements.

Rivals including Alexander Bain and Royal House discovered in the courts that this was one man you challenged at your peril. The final cash payment, $2 million in today’s money, with an assurance of future royalties, was fitting reward, Morse must have felt, for his persistence.

Solar Path Lights – Effective Outdoor Illumination

If you have a house which has a detached garage as well as a path that leads to the entrance door, you could have a difficulty seeing the pathway at night. It may also be difficult to see a path leading from a curve or driveway to the door of the house. Placing lights along the pathway can help you to be safe while you walk from a vehicle to the home. Regular lights need to be wired in and must be turned off and on manually unless you want them illuminated night and day. Using solar path lights takes away the drawbacks from outdoor lighting.

Because solar units are powered by the sun, you do not need electrical wiring or switches to use them. They absorb the rays from the sun daily during daylight hours and release the light at night through the dark hours. What this means is you are not using electrical power and that you have the light at night. The lights store up energy through the sunlit hours and it is released as light in the evening. The lights are not turned on and off. When it gets dark, the lights are activated. When the sun rises and daylight brightens, the lamps start collecting energy again.

Pathways which are illuminated by solar lights are much safer than dark paths. If you often have to cross rough ground or pavement where it is often dark or shadowed, it is always best to place path lights along where you must walk. Lighted paths will help avoid the risk of stumbling and falling.

Solar powered lights may be very attractive and also a very effective safety feature for your home. The landscape design of your home may be enhanced with the addition of lights to outline paths. Designs that lead to a patio, a garden segment or to a gazebo make your home more attractive and safer too. You will not need to trip over an uneven stone or other landscape feature when walking after sunset.

You can use one or two lights or as many as you need to illuminate the dark paths around your house. Solar lights are usually a little less bright than electric units. In order to get a similar illumination along a path, you will need to supply more lights.

Solar path lights point your attention to architectural features such as a gate post. They may mark a flower bed perimeter. You have to place the lights where they are touched by sunlight through the day or they do not absorb the energy. They look great when it's daylight and give off illumination during the evening.

Material Handling, Loading Dock and Distribution Warehouse Lighting

Loudly watching the intense activity at a modern trucking terminal and distribution center with all the material handling equipment moving in one direction one has to wonder how they do it all without any accidents. Whether you are involved in modern day American material handling or using Canada handling material pneumatic equipment to briskly move freight on stacked pallets, you know about the vibrational energy all around.

The noise, bumps and vibration of conveyor belts, forklifts and material handling equipment is everywhere. I propose we use this information and this vibrational energy for powering up the Loading Dock and Distribution Warehouse Lighting, which at a typical facility could be as much as $ 50,000 to $ 300,000 or more in energy costs.

By placing large sandwich sheets with a taunt film on the vibrational side and small copper lined tubes, hundreds of them running perpendicular to the sheets, with magnets inside bouncing back and forth. These magnets will charge a capacitor and be hooked up to an LED lighting system using fiber optics or reflectors, each one hooked up to a 2. to 5. watt light. With hundreds of thousands of lights hooked up in a composite format it will light up the roadway and since the lights can shine down on the road in the direction of traffic it would be like daylight without the light pollution associated with street lights in large cities.

Currently this technology is being used in those little flashlights you see advertised on television that you shake and they light, but you never need batteries. This idea of lighting up the freeways is using that technology on a larger scale with miniaturized parts making up the guts between the sandwich sheets. Let there be light, through vibrational energy and there was. Think on it.

Leadership – 5 Barriers to Your Success

As a leader you are measured on your ability to deliver results. Continually delivering results can be challenging and without doubt you will encounter many obstacles along the way. Some of these barriers might be obvious, others not. So what are 5 barriers to your success as a leader?

Barrier 1: No clear vision

As a leader you need to be able to clearly articulate your vision and then sell it to others. This requires you to define what success means for your organization, team or function and why it really matters. If you have no clear vision it is going to be pretty tough to achieve anything.

Barrier 2: Lack of belief

It is no use having a clear vision and be able to explain it to others unless you totally believe that it can be achieved. Gone are the days when you could come up with a nice set of words and hope that no one will see through their doubts. Your belief is the fuel that drives the organization, especially through those challenging and difficult times.

Barrier 3: Absence of goals

Goals or outcomes set a clear destination. When you focus on goals, you are in the driving seat. When you are in the driving seat you focus on results and when you focus on results you achieve more. Results provide the reinforcement and motivation to aim for more and better results.

Barrier 4: Resting on your laurels

You may be doing really well at the current time but resting on your laurels is dangerous. As a leader you need to be continuously be proactive, anticipate the need for change and stay ahead of the game whenever you can. If you want to succeed do not take your foot off the gas.

Barrier 5: Fear

Everyone has fears. It might be fear that something will not work, the request for funding will be rejected or the grand turnaround will fail to materialize. At the root of all of this is fear of failure. If you fear failure and are not willing to address it, you will stop taking risks and when you stop taking risks, you do not get results and end up stagnating.

Bottom Line – Being a leader is not easy. Being aware of and being willing to address your barriers to success is essential. So what barriers do you need to overcome to prosper as a leader?

Spray On Cementitious Fireproofing – 3 Reasons Fireproofing Is Essential

Spray on cementitious fireproofing is usually a gypsum or cement based fireproofing material which is spray applied to a residential or commercial structure to prevent the structure from catching fire. With several different types of fireproofing materials available these days it can be confusing and difficult to choose one when trying to decide which type to use for your home, office or commercial building.

Here are 3 things to consider when researching the different types of fireproofing:

1) Cementitious fireproofing is usually the most cost efficient

Fireproofing materials can vary greatly from brand to brand, and it's important to do diligent research before choosing a brand OR a provider. Typically, spray applied fireproofing is lower in cost, and many people actually prefer it. Spray on cementitious fireproofing is becoming one of the most common materials to use when fireproofing your structure, as it is cheap, efficient, and not difficult to apply. You may find your best bargains when choosing spray on cementitious fireproofing.

2) Learn more about the type of structure you will be fireproofing, and what works best for it

Different building materials will not all respond similar to the same type of fireproofing. It is very important when doing your research to make sure that you learn what brand / type of fireproofing material will work best for your structure. For instance, cementitious and intumescent fireproofing both work well on steel structures, but may not be the best choice for wood structures. Stay conscious of this factor when shopping around.

3) Make sure the company who will be applying the fireproofing does so with adequate thickness

Sometimes when looking at a fireproofing company's website or ad, you will see them advertise that they "never have to respray", or that they are "always spray with adequate thickness". They do this because it is in fact something to promote. Companies who apply fireproofing material too thin on a structure will often cause it to have to be reprayed or redone because it will not protect the building from fire. Depending on the size of the structure, this could cost millions of dollars. It's always good to keep an eye out for companies that advertise that they do it right the first time. In the end, this can save you a ton of time and money.

Intumescent and spray on cementitious fireproofing can benefit you and your structure in several ways. However, you want to be careful with your research and make sure that what ever decision you make is the best one possible.

The Benefits Of Buying Fireproof Safes

People go to work each day to earn a good living. When they get paid, among the things that they will do with their money is to save some in order to acquire certain valuables. This is why investing in fireproof safes is something they bought to consider.

The main reason for buying these safes is for the protection that they offer. There are two forms of protection which they provide typically protection from fire and from theft. Not only valuable items, but important documents also need to be protected.

Valuables may be in the form of jewelry, money, firearms, electronic media or any other thing that they deem to be of value to them. Important documents could include birth certificates, marriage certificates, stocks and bonds, passports, title deeds or any such documents.

In the event of a fire whether it is a commercial property or a private residence, most people will lose everything that was in the building. This happens not only because things get burnt but also because other items which may otherwise have been saved will suffer water damage. In many cases it will be to the point where the items can not be used.

Those people who have invested in these safes will be much more fortunate in that their valuables and important documents will be well protected once they were in the safe. Different materials will burn at different temperatures and so it is very important to decide what will be placed in the safe before it is purchased. This ensures that the appropriate type of fireproof safe will be selected as they are different types.

For owners of firearms, a safe is extremely important. If firearms get into the wrong hands the results can be deadly and as a result they must be well secured. They are special fireproof gun safes which can accommodate various types of firearms and they have various security features. Speaking to an expert in this area will help to determine which kind will be most suitable for your needs.

After acquiring valuables, the last thing that would be welcomed is for a burglar to break into the home or business property and steal them. This is another reason why buying a fireproof safe is important. Thieves love to steal jewelry and cash and once they are placed in a safe, homeowners can feel a bit more comfortable in case of a break in. Business documents including company check books should be properly secured and a fireproof safe is perfect for doing this.

The strongest form of securing technology should be considered when a safe is being chosen in order to maximize protection of the valuables and important documents that will be stored inside. This makes it more difficult for burglars to gain access if they should find where the safe is located. Buying fireproof safes take a lot of stress away from homeowners and business owners alike, as they do not have to worry about their highly significant marriages being lost to fire or theft. These safes are essential and are worth every penny spent on them.
