Set the grill on a level surface

Connect the propane tank to the grill

Check the connection for leakage

Visually checking it may work for others but the safest way to check for leakage is, what else, to use a leakage detection solution. You can buy this at any hardware store. Or, you can also make your own leakage detection solution. How? Just mix equal parts of lukewarm water and dish washing liquid or soap.

Once you already have a solution, apply this to the connection of the valve. Then, slowly open the control valve. You will know if your connection does not have any leaks when no bubbles appear from the solution applied on the valve. But if there are bubbles, even if they are too small or too few, do not take the risk, close the valve and do not operate your grill.

Open the valve and ignite the grill

If you are sure that your connection does not have any leaks, then it is time to light the grill. The valve on top of the gas grill should be open, and then open the lid of the grill. Turn on to full the gas flow control on the grill and press the lighter switch immediately. Some grills do not come with their own lighter switch so you may have to buy a manual grill lighter at the hardware store.

Once the gas grill has been ignited, it is now ready to use. If the gas fails to ignite immediately, turn the gas control knob off. Wait for a few moments and then try again using the same processes specified above.

After using it

Once your gas barbecue grill has been ignited, cook your food according to your preference. After using the gas grill, first turn off the control knob of the propane tank. Then, turn off the gas flow control on the gas grill. Turn all the knobs securely and tightly to avoid damages.

Now we will look at each of these elements in more detail, so you can see what importance that little strip of ivory, bone or plastic plays in our guitars, and how you can strive to have the ‘perfect nut’.

String Action:

Although this point may seem rather obvious, there is in reality more to it than it seems on the surface. By making very minor depth changes to the string grooves in the nut, you can change a difficult playing guitar into an easy playing guitar.

Can you go too low? That is a very easy mistake to make. If you cut your channels too deeply, you will ruin the nut and have to start over with a new nut. So is there an ideal string depth then? That will be covered in another article on how to best construct a nut.

Intonation of the Guitar:

The proper length of the guitar strings as it relates to the guitar scale is intonation. Typically the guitar string length has a beginning point at the backside of the nut or the point where the nut and the fretboard join. Now if the string channels are filed improperly, the string length can fall somewhere ‘within’ the nut and not at the outer edge. This will throw off the guitar intonation off, and produce a guitar that is both difficult to tune, and it will play ‘out of tune’.

The Guitar Tone:

The Guitar Nut plays an important role in the quality or tone of the instrument. If you don’t believe me remove an ivory nut from of a fine classical guitar and replace it with plastic. The change in tone is amazing! The strings will sound ‘dead’ and the difference between the fretted notes and open notes will be much more pronounced.

As you will be able to see, the guitar nut materials are at least partially responsible for the guitar tone production. Also, to assure a outstanding guitar tone and sustain, be sure that the guitar nut is set properly into the guitar neck. Turbo Wastegate Operation

The actuator is normally being controlled by an electrical boost solenoid which has vacuum lines that control it. GM part number #1997152 is a popular choice that has been adapted to work on many vehicles either foreign or domestic. Some OEM boost solenoids for Volvo, Audi, and others accomplish the same thing.

One vacuum line typically runs from the intake side of the engine or turbo compressor housing to provide the actual boost pressure which the engine is operating. This line from the intake to the first port on the solenoid is sending positive pressure which is then bled off at the solenoid to deliver this output pressure to the actuator. The actuator is basically a spring inside a canister with a diaphram that is controlled by the pressure sent to it from the solenoid.

With the solenoid disconnected the boost level is determined by the spring in the actuator canister. This is also known as base boost, or the lowest boost setting that the turbo can be ran. A modification to the actuator by placing a stiffer spring will raise the base boost and is usually necessary if the vehicle has been modified to run a much higher than stock boost level.

External Wastegate

The external wastegate application is usually an aftermarket product which is not built into the turbocharger. The placement of the external can vary depending on the application and fitment issues. A complete twin turbo kit for a 2005-2008 Corvette C6 has the turbos/wastegates rear mounted because of lack of space under the hood.

External wastegates can be either vented to the atmosphere or redirected so they are sent out the exhaust system. When they are vented to the atmosphere the noise produced is considerably loud and may push the legal limits for noise so be sure that you are aware of potential risks.

When the external wastegate is tied into the exhaust the amount of noise is minimized and similar to the noise level from an internal wastegate. Some people have mistaken a wastegate for a blow off valve and these are two completely different components that serve different purposes. The blow off valve emits a sound that is more of a sharp swoosh, slightly high pitched. The external wastegate vented to the atmosphere is much deeper and not nearly as smooth. A small turn down pipe is typically attached to the wastegate to direct the discharge away from any place that may not take well to heat.

Manual Boost Controllers

When you want to raise the boost, there are many gadgets out there on the market that claim to offer solid boost control. Before you go and spend $500 or so on a fancy electronic boost controller, lets first take a look at what is happening.

As previously mentioned with the integral wastegate, the actuator is used to hold the flapper shut by the use of spring pressure. The preload must be set accurately or there will be a serious lag in building boost or if its set too tight can cause a boost spike and damage an engine. Its extremely important to set the preload properly, whether you are running stock or higher boost levels.

A simple but extremely effective $45 boost controller can provide excellent boost control. The boostvalve is a product that has been proven reliable for years and they offer additional springs to allow higher boost settings.

Maintenance

Integral wastegates can become sticky, where the wastegate flapper becomes stuck or just doesn’t swing freely. This is an important inspection that could be costing you a lot of performance. If the flapper doesn’t open and close smoothly then it may get hung up causing a lag in building boost or boost spikes to overcome the spot where it hangs. A product from GM called heat riser lube can be injected to help loosen up the flapper.

The vacuum lines that run to the boost solenoid may need to be inspected depending on the condition or age of the vehicle. Replacement silicone vacuum lines are usually a good choice.

The last suggestion is to take a close look at your datalog files to see just how stable your boost control is, whether it spikes or drops off. A properly setup wastegate can make all the difference in terms of overall performance from a turbo engine, and you may just need to make a few small adjustments to see dramatic improvements in performance.

3) Use a ribbed condom or penis sleeve. Excess wetness remains a problem with or without a condom. Penis sleeves help the man feel more, but tends to numb the woman’s vagina after a few minutes, making her uncomfortable.

4) Douche with plain water. This has some impact by reducing the amount of natural lubrication, but the effect tends to vanish as the woman’s arousal increases, resulting in secretion of even more lubrication.

5) Insert a sponge or cloth. One of the more embarrassing techniques as it must be done intermittently. Couples find this a big turn off. The technique though, is to wrap a thin sheet/towel around a couple of fingers. Insert the fingers to soak up vaginal wetness. Proceed with intercourse. Repeat as necessary. While this method does work, re-entry of vagina is difficult & painful because this method absorbs ALL the lubrication. Within a few minutes however, as arousal increases again, there will once again be too much wetness. With this method, there is no way of controlling the desired level of wetness & tightness.

6) Use of a fan blowing on the genital area. Not a practical solution, as it primarily results in making the couple cold, while having little impact on internal vaginal secretions.

7) Use of birth control pills. An old wives tale without any validity.

8) Repositioning her body. Certain positions, such as closing of the legs, act to tighten the vagina, but unless the man has a longer than average penis, he will find it far less satisfying due to shallower penetration.

9) Insert an ice cube into the vagina to cause muscle contraction. Another old wives tale, not to mention the obvious discomfort.

10) Vaginal Cones. Very similar in concept to kegal exercises. The idea here is to exercise the vaginal muscles by holding an object inside the vagina by flexing the interior muscles. Increasingly heavier weights can be placed inside. The theory is sound, but females have a difficult time staying on this type of program long enough to be of benefit, not to mention that like any muscle, if it is not continually worked, it will lose its strength. The other disadvantage is that to be of benefit during intercourse, the female must consciously flex her interior muscles, thus taking away from her ability to relax & enjoy the act of intercourse itself.

11) Creams. There are a couple of these on the internet now being marketed under many different names. If you already suffer from excess wetness, adding a cream to the existing problem is not going to help. Manufacturers say the creams have a tightening effect on the vagina within 15-30 minutes, but evidence shows that any NOTICEABLE tightening effects is minimal to none. Application of the cream to the interior walls of the vagina is difficult, embarrassing & must be properly timed to correspond with intercourse. A crib blanket is just too big for swaddling a newborn. And we all know that a swaddled baby is a happier, more content baby.

Many lightweight, cotton receiving blankets are about 30″ square. They’re inexpensive, and can found in almost any department store. While that size is great to place under baby on the changing table to prevent any mishaps, it’s not great for swaddling a newborn–it’s just too small.

A baby blanket that’s about 34″-36″ long in both directions, and is made of a light-to medium weight hypoallergenic fabric, like cotton or baby-weight fleece, is probably the best choice. It’s large enough to swaddle a newborn, and small enough for an older child to sleep with at night. An additional plus is that, if the fabric is lightweight enough, you can roll up the blanket and stow it in a diaper bag without too much trouble.

If your looking for a gift for that next baby shower, or want to give your sister a keepsake for her new baby, consider a personalized baby blanket, about 34″ – 36″, made out of a light or medium weight, hypoallergenic fabric. If you want to find a baby blanket for an older baby or young child, consider buying a larger, crib size blanket. If you or someone you know is a new mother for the first time, a package (or more) of cotton receiving blankets is always a great choice.

Why Won’t My Diesel Start?

What It Takes To Make a Diesel Run

There are only three things that are needed to make a diesel run;.

(1) Heat from compression,

(2) Fuel at the Right time and pressure.

(3) Sufficient crank shaft speed to provide the compression. The engine must also have sufficient air.

A diesel in the purist form is a very simple engine.

What makes a diesel hard to start?

  • If the fuel is not injected into the cylinder at the correct time the engine will be very difficult to start. The fuel needs to be injected before the piston reaches top dead center to create a flame front in the cylinder. The timing is critical for correct engine operation.
  • If the fuel injection pressure is not sufficient the engine will be hard to start. Injection pressure is difficult to test and usually manifest it self in hard starting, lack of power and sometimes smoke from unburned fuel.
  • The engine must crank at sufficient speed to provide the necessary compression, heat in the cylinder to ignite the fuel. Many hard starting problems with diesel engines can be attributed to a poorly functioning starter.

How can I the do it yourselfer check some of these things?

If you own a diesel and are going to work on it, it might be worth while to invest in the tools to set the fuel injection timing. There are many methods of setting the timing of a diesel. Some older diesels use a drip tube. The V.W. diesels us a dial indicator for checking pump plunger travel on the IDI engines (Indirect Injection). Some of the Cummings diesels are timed in the same manner. Some of the new diesels are timed using a scan tool to inter face with the engine management computer.

If you are going to work on your diesel, buy a book, preferably the factory manual.

You can check to see if all fuel filters are clean.

You can check to see if your glow plugs are working. The best method that I have found to check glow plugs is to use a direct current (DC) amp clamp. This is a meter that clamps over a wire and read the amount of current flowing through it. Most glow plugs pull about 9 amps after the initial surge. You can get the correct figure from the manufactures technical data. DC amp clamps are a lot cheaper now than they were in the past. I bought the small hand held unit that our shop uses for Sears for under $50.00. If you use starting fluid in a diesel with glow plugs it nearly always burns out the glow plugs even if they are new ones.

The amp clamp that you bought to check your glow plugs is a good tool to check your starter. Measure the current draw of the starter and compare it to the manufacturers specifications. Any thing beyond these simple things will require specialized tools and knowledge.

What’s New With the Caterpillar D9 Bulldozer?

The Top Ten Custom Motorcycle Builders

Since I spend a good portion of my time reviewing and researching the world of custom motorcycles, I thought it might be fun to list my own top ten for the custom motorcycle world. My choices were made strictly on the quality and originality of their work and not how famous they are. Here they are in reverse order.

10. OCC Choppers – Six months ago these guys wouldn’t have even made my short list, let alone my top ten, but since Paul Jr. left, the bikes they’re building have been better than ever. The OCC band bike alone earns them a spot on the list.

9. Bobber Shop – The one in Thousand Oaks, CA. If you want to see how to properly take a stock Harley Davidson and turn it into a true custom you need to see the work these guys do. One of the best customizing shops in the country.

8. Greg’s Custom Cycles – I’m not sure where Greg gets his ideas but I hope they keep coming. One of the most creative bike builders in the country yet smart enough to never over do it. A bike done by Greg’s will truly be one of a kind.

7. Sam Nehme – Roadstar customizer extraordinaire, Sam’s BMS Choppers continually keeps pumping out high quality custom Yamahas. I credit Sam for making customized Metric bikes an acceptable form of transportation.

6. Arlen Ness – The guy’s an artist. He’s a legend. Arlen has pushed the boundaries of custom bike design further than any single individual I can think of. Many of Arlen’s unique ideas have made their way onto stock bikes. A real pioneer.

5. Mondo – After taking over Denver’s Choppers from the late Denver Mullins, Mondo has carved himself a place in motorcycle history, I feel, by being one of the most versatile custom motorcycle builders around. Mondo is one of the few builders that understand every style of bike and what makes it what it is.

4. Cole Foster – I once wrote that Cole’s picture should be put into the dictionary next to the world “cool”. That’s not a joke. This guy epitomizes cool and all that it means. While some may argue that Foster and his Salinas Boys haven’t built enough motorcycles to qualify for a spot this high on the list, my response is that it’s quality, not quantity that matters.

3. Roland Sands – Hello, next generation of custom bike builder. Roland can’t seem to decide if he wants to build a racing bike, a sport bike, a cruiser or and off road bike, so he just builds them all in every bike. Probably the most talented artist in the entire custom motorcycle world, Sands has truly created his own signature style.

2. Wicked Custom Cycles – Who? You may ask are they? Well, do yourself a favor and Google them and you’ll find out. My number two choice was selected for their unique take on the V-star 1100 as a base for a custom motorcycle. They are without a doubt building the finest metric bikes I have seen yet. Look these guys up.

1. Redneck Engineering -. The heart of a custom motorcycle is not in the engine but rather the frame. Redneck has taken frame design to its ultimate perfection. They have developed new frame styles that other bike builders are falling over themselves to use. The Redneck style is instantly recognizable, no matter who has done the finishing work, and I can not wait to see what they develop next.

Fixings 101 – The Basics of Wood Screws

Screws are important through bolts used in carpentry. The use of these through bolts is mainly to join two pieces of wood together to increase the thickness of the wood and so that the strength of these two pieces would be added together.

There are many types of screws and they are classified in four ways: the type of drive, the shape of the head, the shank of the screw, and the size of the screw. Each kind of screw serves its own purpose.

Wood Screw Fixings by Drives

When we talk about screws and classify them by the type of drive that they have, we would be talking of only two things. One is the slotted drive type of screw, whilst the other would be the Philips type of drive.

The slotted drive type has a single hollow bar straight across the head of the screw. The Philips drive, on the other hand, has a cross-shaped slot on its head. Because of the shape of this slot, the Philips drive is also called the crosshead drive.

A variation of the Philips drive is the Pozidrive screw. Like the Philips drive, the Pozidrive also has a crosshead, but on all the angles created by this cross, a tiny corner juts out.

Wood Screw Fixings by Heads

We can also classify screws according to the shape of their head. Under this classification, there are three types of screws – countersunk heads, raised heads and round heads.

screws with countersunk heads are made for concealment. They are screwed tightly into the surface of the wood, where they can appear “invisible.” The raised head screw is also good for concealment but they are not as “invisible” as the countersunk-headed screws. That is because the raised head is slightly domed and can be seen on the wood.

The round-headed screw, on the other hand, is not meant to be invisible. Its large head rests in a dome right on the surface of the wood.

The shank of the screw refers to its tapering tail. All screws, regardless of their classification, have only one single appearance to their shanks – they are tapered. This tapering shank differentiates screws from screws used on metal. Screws for metal surfaces always have parallel shanks.

screws are also classified according to their sizes. These sizes are determined by the length of the screw and its gauge number. The length of the screw can be measured easily – all you need to do is to apply a ruler and measure its length from head to tip.

Getting the gauge number of a screw is another matter. If you do not know the gauge of the screw through bolts that you need, then you may need to do a bit of math. Put a ruler to the diameter of the screw’s head and convert that measurement to the sixteenth of an inch. Subtract one, and then multiply the remainder by two. Whatever number you will get will yield these fixings’ gauge numbers.

What Size Skateboard Truck Bolts Should I Buy?

You’re buying a new skateboard. You’ve got all the bits in your shopping cart but you’re unsure of what size truck bolts you need to get. 1″, 0.78″, 1 1/4″ too many choices. This article should help you out here.

Why are their different length bolts I hear you ask? Well the answers pretty simple, there are different thickness riser pads available and depending on which thickness pad you use you’ll need a different length truck bolt.

Skateboard trucks can either sit flat on the deck or with a riser pad in between. Here’s a simple rule to follow when choosing skateboard truck bolts. Skateboard bolts are the bolts used to hold the skateboard truck to the skateboard deck. Without them the skateboard would fall apart.

If you’re riding your skateboard trucks flat to the wood then 0.78″ truck bolts will do the job nicely. If you’re using a 1/8″ riser pad then a 1″ truck bolt will cover you nicely ( 0.78″ will be too short and the nuts will quickly fall off when you’re riding your skateboard), If you’re doubling up on your riser pads because you’re riding a larger skateboard wheel then try a 1 1/4″ bolt as the bolts will need to be longer.
