Building Core Muscle Strength

Building Core Muscle Strength Reduces Lower Back Pain

It is well known that a strong core to the body distributes the stresses of weight bearing and protects the back. This is also referred to as core stability whose goal is to maintain a solid foundation and transfer energy from the centre of the body out to the limbs.

Strengthening the core muscles reduces back pain and it has been shown that weak and unbalanced core muscles are linked with low back pain. Stronger, balanced core muscles help maintain appropriate posture and reduce strain on the spine.

Muscles which enhance core stability are known as core muscles, a set of muscles which run around the mid riff of the body. People frequently work hard at abdominal exercises to build up what is commonly known as a “six-pack”, which get its name from it appearance in fit and thin individuals. However, there are many core muscles and building core muscle strength requires much more than just abdominal exercises.

Core muscles include:

The Multifidus muscles which are located under along the vertebral column. These muscles extend and rotate the spine the spine.

The External Oblique muscles which are located on the side and front of the abdomen.

The internal oblique muscles which are located under the external obliques, running in the opposite direction.

The Transverse Abdominis (TVA) which is located under the obliques, is the deepest of the abdominal muscles (muscles of your waist) and wraps around your spine for protection and stability.

The Erector Spinae; a group of three muscles running along your neck to your lower back.

The Hip Flexors; located in front of the pelvis and upper thigh.

The Gluteus medius and minimus; located at the side of the hip,

The Gluteus maximus, hamstring group, piriformis; located in the back of the hip and upper thigh leg.

The Hip adductors; located at medial thigh.

Visit sportsmedicine.about.com for the full breakdown of muscles involved in core stability.

The biggest benefit of core training is to develop functional fitness, which means fitness that is essential to both daily living and regular activities. The question is; how can this be achieved when an individual already has lower back pain and finds any level of exercise a challenge.

Sinus Pressure – When Allergy to House Dust is the Culprit

Could the cause of your sinus pressure discomfort lie deep in your carpet nap or rugs?  House dust–and there are several types thereof–is responsible for the sinus irritation which produces extra mucus which can accumulate and create sinus pressure. I had received allergy injections for a number of years for pollens and, to a lesser extend, house dust and I was doing rather well. But then two winters in a row I had serious sinus problems and I was baffled. This happened before I spent considerable time studying my sinus health situation from an “alternative”–using remedies other than regular drug medications–stand point.

I went to a different allergy specialist and a new set of allergy skin tests were made including several kinds of house dust. The results were revealing. I had been desensitized for some pollens, but I was very allergic to a type of house dust that contains an abundance of dust mite droppings, which, by the way, are microscopic. As you can see, the problem is not with the mites themselves, but the “legacy” they leave behind, especially when they have a fertile environment to reproduce in. What could that environment be?

Dust mites thrive in an ambient that has three things: warmth, moisture, dead skin particles–which rubs off the human body and the mites use as food. Some authorities in this field even suggest that most common house dust is made up, primarily, of the latter element. In my particular case, which could be the average one, we used a regular cool steam humidifier in the bedroom–to keep the sinuses moist at night so they would not swell from dryness, when the heat was on in the winter. The problem was that the moisture being produced was concentrating somewhat on the carpet in the area in front of the humidifier; thus becoming, unwittingly, a breeding ground for the little rascals. As they increased in numbers they spread all over the bedroom carpet and then migrated to the mattress. There the body warmth and moisture and ample dead skin bits provided an ideal breeding place for this microscopic nuisance.

The solution: Since dust mites are very difficult to kill, the solution had several components:

  • I began to receive allergy injections taylor-made for house dust heavy with mites’ droppings
  • We bought special zippered bed sheets that did not allow the mites to migrate from the mattress to the surface of the sheet
  • We continued to used the humidifier, but I raised it so the steam would dissipate more
  • We vacuumed the carpets more often, but used a vacuum cleaner with HEPA filters to contain more of the dust within the machine

It worked. You may want to find out more as to whether you may be allergic to house dust mites’ droppings; especially if your sinus pressure is a chronic one.

House Design

It is said that ‘only a woman can make a house a home.’ Interior design is the design makes a house pleasurable to live and draws on aspects of environmental psychology, architecture, product design and furniture design, in addition to traditional decoration and wall paint and artistic articles.

The important part of designing a house include things like concept or theme, color, proportion, balance and function of design. Although all interior designers are different, they are all an essential part of the look and feel of a house or a room in general. Designers integrate the above seven elements of design to generate a particular experience that the house imparts.

The first and foremost in house design is the theme of the design. Some individuals may prefer a modern theme, some a traditional one, some a natural one and some others an artistic one. According to the theme that the occupant decides on, the color, the furniture, the accessories and the fabric that is used in the house will differ. Furniture selection and the placement of furniture plays an important part in house designing. If the furniture is not placed in coordination with the walls and spaces, there is a chance that the house will look cramped. The material of the furniture must also compliment the theme and the spatial statistics. Accessories for the house can range from wall paintings to show pieces to draperies, blinds and curtains.

The design of a house can really affect the way a family feels, moods and emotions. Hence, people spend enormous amounts of money in the interior designing of their houses.

Outdoor Wood Boilers and Furnaces – Why Do They Smoke So Much?

With energy prices continuing to reach an all time high, more and more people are turning to alternate fuel sources. One of those fuels is wood.

Although people have burned wood for years, why is there so much buzz about outdoor wood burning boilers (or furnaces as they are most commonly referred to).

Well, first off, lets talk about what these are. If you live in a neighborhood where one has been installed, then I am sure you know what they are! In general they are a self-contained building that looks something like a shed. They consist of a firebox and an area that contains water.

Wood is added to the firebox and the heat that the wood produces is then passed to the water, which in turn enters the house or building and is used for heating and domestic hot water.

Sounds like a great thing right? It is. Or is it? The biggest problem that most people have with outdoor wood furnaces is most produce a ton of smoke at start up. This smoke can also last for a long time during operation (heat cycle) due to the large wood load stored in the firebox.

So why do they smoke so much? There are several reasons. The first reason is most manufacturers do not build these to be very efficient. As the fire burns, the firebox rarely gets hot enough to “gasify” the wood gases driven out of the burning wood. These gases consist of many compounds. The most common compounds are hydrogen gas, carbon monoxide and methane gas. Because these compounds don’t get hot enough to ignite and combust, they escape up the chimney in the form of dense smoke.

Another leading cause of dense smoke comes from burning “green wood”. Green wood is wet wood. In other words it has not been “seasoned” or left out to dry for a year or two.

As the green wood burns it gives off water vapor or steam from the water trapped inside the wood. This leads to heavy smoking. This problem is a very simple one to fix. Don’t burn green wood! In fact, even know some makers of outdoor furnaces and wood stoves say that you can burn green wood, you shouldn’t. You will consume more wood if you burn green wood, and thus loose even more efficiency. Some of the heat energy from the existing fire needs to be used to drive the moisture out of the wood instead of being used to heat the water.

A responsible owner of one of these devices, such as myself, can vary the way you “fire the furnace”. Instead of filling the firebox to capacity every time, just add less wood as well as the time of day. I fire my stove at night so the smoke doesn’t bother my neighbors during the day. And by adding less wood at each loading, it cuts down on the amount of smoke output.

For the most part, most outdoor wood furnaces are not regulated by the EPA. However, that is changing. Due to the overwhelming popularity of these things, the EPA is now starting to address this problem. Most manufactures of outdoor furnaces are now building models that conform to smoke emission criteria. This is nothing more than a normal path of evolution for these manufactures if they want to continue to sell their products into the future.

The bulk of manufactures are achieving this cleaner burning stove through the use of more modern technology. Although there are many different ways of doing this, the basic principle is the same. That is you need to increase the “combustion temperature” inside the firebox.

In most cases this is achieved by adding a secondary combustion chamber. And in some cases introduces “secondary air”. Regardless of the method used, the goal is to get the exhaust gases / gases of combustion, hot enough to gasify, or ignite.

By getting the gases to ignite in the secondary combustion chamber several things are achieved. First, the gases are being burned at a very high temperature and therefore are achieving “complete combustion” (as much as possible in this type of situation) which in turn produces more heat.

The more heat that is produced, the more heat is transferred to the water, thus making the stove more efficient. Because we are able to gasify and burn the gases trapped in the smoke, the overall smoke output is greatly reduced.

The idea of gasification is not new. In fact, the extraction of hydrogen gases from wood was used during World War Two by the military to run jeeps and alike.

One of the attractions towards burning wood is that it is a renewable source of energy.

And, of course reduces our need for oil from others countries.

Despite what some well-intentioned folks may tell you, burning wood is no more harmful then some fossil fuels from a carbon dioxide standpoint. In short, here’s why.

Wood contains carbon dioxide as part of the natural growing process. It’s part of nature.

Of course all fossil fuels contain this gas as well. This is one of the big problems with burning fossil fuels.

So, why is burning wood different? Because trees contain carbon dioxide that will naturally escape from the wood in time anyway. That is to say, as a tree dies and decays it will emit carbon dioxide.

Fossil fuels on the other hand, only emit carbon dioxide when burned. So the thought here by most, is if the fossil fuels were never burned and left underground there would be no carbon dioxide emission.

Remember, this is not to say that burning wood is any cleaner, it’s just that burning wood adds less NET carbon dioxide to the environment. (So long as we continue to burn fossil fuels)

So with the help of the EPA and stove manufactures, we will soon have a wood burning outdoor furnace that will smoke less. Hopefully this will reach some middle ground between those who are upset over smoke and those who STILL have a right to burn wood.

Attaching and Removing Samsung LED TV Stand and Connecting Samsung LED TV to the Internet

Over the years, Samsung introduced so many innovative televisions to us and every television is worth buying for its features and stability when it comes to performance. From LCD TVs to LED TVs, Samsung has provided their televisions with stands.

Unique Door Prize Ideas for a Party

Door prizes are an amazing way to stimulate guests of a party to buy tickets. These prizes come in many shapes and sizes. It can be something small and personal or something more expensive.

Choosing or making door prizes could be a difficult task. You would love to discover something unique and memorable but you have doubts about the appropriateness of your door prize idea.

Here are several door prize suggestions you can choose among. It really depends on your intentions and the price of tickets getting sold during the party.

What is a Door Prize?

Before getting started, we should provide a clear definition of the term ‘door prize.’ What exactly is it?

A door prize is something that guests receive in return for purchasing lottery tickets. The prize could be given to the one who purchases most tickets or the winners can be selected towards the end of the party – someone will simply draw tickets and share the winning numbers.

Such activities are appropriate when raising funds for a charity or during a baby shower, for example, when the mom-to-be will have to purchase many items. Guests could also be asked to bring something in order to get lottery tickets – a pack of diapers is a common baby shower item.

Door Prize Should Correspond to Ticket Price

The door prizes you choose should correspond to the amount each individual has spent on purchasing a ticket. Expensive tickets will demand more significant prizes. It can be technology, a gadget or a trip. Small sums will only demand tiny, personal gifts. You can even make one on your own.

Gift Baskets

Gift baskets are a wonderful prize idea. You can practically put anything in a gift basket. Pick items and accessories that correspond to the type of the party and the preferences of the guests.

A gift basket could contain homemade cosmetic product. The fact that you have created it on your own will make it even more special. Have fun with the selection and making of the gift basket items.

Gift Certificates

If you are uncertain about the preferences of the people who are taking part in the lottery, you can get gift certificates.

Gift certificates are one of the best door prize options, since they give the winners a chance to select the most appropriate award on their own. Such prizes will be appropriate if you are relatively unfamiliar with the people who are attending your party. Get gift certificates from several popular stores and distribute those as raffle awards.

Travel and Vacations

Everybody loves to travel. If the prize of the tickets is relatively high, you can consider the selection of more expensive prizes.

A weekend getaway is a perfect opportunity. You will have to talk to a hotel and book a travel voucher as a door prize. Make sure that the hotel is flexible when it comes to date selection. Your guests should have several opportunities to choose among.

You can come up with any type of door prize. People love receiving awards. Pick items that will be fun, cute or valuable. Your decision should be based on your knowledge of the guests and their preferences.

Sports Betting – A Primer

Betting on sports is a unique opportunity in the gambling world. Unlike Blackjack, Roulette, and Slot Machines, it does not have a built-in house edge that can never be overcome. No matter how good of a Blackjack player you are, you will still lose 51% of the time over the long term (unless you’re counting cards, of course). It simply cannot be avoided. Additionally, you are not playing against nearly infinite long odds as with lotteries. If approached as an investment, with a cool head and disciplined manner, it can and will be profitable for you. Precision Plays has put together the following primer for sports betting. These are the methods we employ in our wagering and we have shown a profit for our clients each and every year since 2001.

Never chase your losses. Your sports picks will lose and periodically several times in a row. There’s no avoiding it, but by doubling up your next bet or following some progressive scheme where the stakes constantly increase, your losses will only mount. Figure out why you lost and learn from it. Sometimes the reason can’t be determined, but often it can.

Establish a fixed bankroll, unit size, and fiscal period. For example, $1000 to wager over the course of an NFL season. Your unit size should not be more than 2% of your bankroll. In this example, you would bet $20 on each football pick. After 50 bets you would have turned over your bankroll ($20 X 50=$1000). At this point, you can either cash out any money above $1000 as profit or roll it over into your bankroll and increase your unit size accordingly.

Never vary your unit size lightly, unless it is to decrease it. It should ALWAYS be tied to your bankroll. Precision Plays occasionally decreases our unit size on certain bets we feel may cash, but are also riskier (and therefore more profitable). Decreasing unit size should be temporary and rare. A fixed unit is always best.

Never vary your bankroll lightly. It should be an amount you can lose with no financial hardship at all. The best way to increase your bankroll is with profits.

See your fiscal period through before varying it. In the above example, we gave an entire football season as the fiscal period. It does not matter what it is – a half season, a month, even a week.

Several things may happen regarding the fiscal period and these are the best responses:

1. You reach your turnover point before the fiscal period ends.

Simply remove your profits or increase your bankroll and unit size accordingly and continue on to its end.

2. You’ve reached the end of the fiscal period with a loss.

Continuing with the same example, you’ve reached the end of football season and have $800 left out of your original $1000. Our recommendation is to go into the next fiscal period with the smaller bankroll and unit size. In this case, a bankroll of $800 and unit size of $16. Be sure to study your sports picks to determine why they lost, if possible. Never increase your bankroll, unless you show a profit. Making solid sports picks is a learning curve and it is better to lose a little money while learning and improving than a lot.

3. You’ve lost your entire bankroll before the fiscal period ends.

Stop. The fiscal period is there to prevent you from getting into financial trouble. Our recommendation if this happens is to temporarily quit betting your sports picks with real money and make virtual bets, using all of the above methods, until you can turn a virtual ‘profit’. Remember, learning curve – better to lose less money while learning than more. Even better to lose none.

Fixed bankroll, fixed unit size, fixed fiscal period and the discipline these instill are what is called Money Management and it is absolutely essential to being a successful sports bettor and avoiding financial troubles. Money Management is equally as important as studying stats and trends and making solid plays. Some would argue it is even more important.

Shop for odds and lines and get the best one for your pick. A point or half-point in the line can be the difference between winning your play and losing it, and a few cents here and there will add up over the years. I calculated this during the baseball season of 98, noting every time I found better odds and how many cents. Had I played the first odds, I would have profited less by $580. Simply shopping around created an improvement of 2 percentage points in profit for that season.

Make solid sports picks, do your homework, and keep detailed records. There is no perfect way of picking a good play. I know over a dozen professional sports gamblers and each has a different method that works. Some focus exclusively on line and odds movements. Some on long-term trends, some on seasonal and situation trends, others on performance stats, and various combinations of these methods. All have demonstrated success in their wagering. So there is no secret ‘system’ or method. Try everything, seek new ways. Once you have demonstrated a profit over the long term, you’ve found the way to do it right.

Avoid the two great myths of sports betting: ‘Vegas’ and ‘the Public’. You yourself are the public. It is made up of, yes, dweebs without the first clue, but also sharp players, decent players and players in between. It is a spectrum. ‘Vegas’ doesn’t exist in the sense of some secret group of geniuses setting ‘traps’, and knowing something about a matchup that you don’t. It is simply an odds marketplace. This marketplace does NOT gamble. It is influenced entirely by supply and demand, like any marketplace. If there is demand for a certain product, say, Oreo cookies, its price will increase, until the demand levels off. If there is great demand, its price will increase greatly. At the same time, Oreo’s competitor, Fig Newtons, will lower its price appropriately, until the marketplace achieves balance. That is how the lines and odds market works.

‘Vegas’ is the inhuman marketplace governed by the laws of supply and demand and ‘the Public’ is simply the millions of consumers setting the prices – odds and lines – by their choices. Consuming some bets (favorites) at a higher rate than others (underdogs).

Remember, the dog is there to win the game. Don’t buy a product simply because it is more popular than another (Yankees -300, Ray-bans $100 a pair). Perhaps another product, a much cheaper one, will work just as well (Devil Rays +190, Cheap Sunglasses $9.95).

Gypsum Board – The Unique Building Material

Gypsum board which is also known as drywall is a unique building material. It is made of mineral gypsum and then turned into plaster by mixing it with fibreglass or paper. It is then laid between two sheets of paper. This board is then heated in a flame and then dried to form a strong board. A drywall can be cut using drywall cutters or saws. The drywalls can be cut into any desired size for building purposes.

Common Benefits of Using Gypsum Board

In the early days, the gypsum board was used for constructing walls in majority of the houses. There are many benefits of using these drywall boards. Unlike the plaster walls, the drywalls seldom require professional application and can be laid easily and quickly.

Comparatively inexpensive: Compared to the other building materials, the gypsum board is inexpensive and easy to manufacture. Therefore it is widely used in huge buildings and homes to reduce construction costs.

Light in weight: The drywall boards are relatively light in weight but still rigid. The surface is quiet smooth and continuous which makes it very easy to paint. The walls of the buildings remain beautiful and smooth when drywalls are installed.

Available in different sizes: The gypsum board can be cut into different sizes and shapes to suit the building purposes of homes and apartments. These boards are also available in various sizes in the form of sheets which can be used as ceilings and walls.

Easy to install: The drywall boards are easy to install and require no plaster to install. The boards neither require any professional skill for application.

Noise reduction: The application of gypsum board helps to reduce noise to a great level. The gypsum board can be installed in two or three levels to reduce unwanted noise.

Easy remodelling: Large building areas can be remodelled easily using the drywall boards as it is relatively easier to install and involves lesser cost.

Quick completion of interiors: With the use of gypsum board, interiors of homes and offices can be completed quickly and easily. The possibility of cracks in the walls is completely negated. There is no requirement of plaster for the installation of these walls. It can be installed by the owners of the home without any professional assistance.

Sound insulation: Another added advantage of the drywall boards includes its ability to prevent the spread of fire. The thickness of the board varies according to specific requirements. For fire and sound proof boards, the board requires around 5/8 inches of thickness.

It is easy to identify the drywall boards which include two thick paper sheets. These paper sheets are similar to the construction paper but are thick and strong. This false ceiling is available with tapes that are adhesive. The seams can be covered using a compound that appears like clay or mud which gives a complete appearance to the walls.

The gypsum board is used worldwide and there are endless number of manufacturers and suppliers of this distinctive and exclusive building material. It can also be bought from many of the online stores at affordable prices.

Gypsum Plaster

Hand troweled gypsum plaster is ideal for large round “Old World Santa Fe Style” corners and will also work well for a contemporary flat wall with square corners. Gypsum plaster can be built up in single and multiple coats to achieve more depth than any other plaster system available.

Traditional plaster is applied over expanded metal lath and done in 3 coats to an overall thickness of 7/8″. The first coat is called the scratch coat, the second is the brown coat and the final coat is called the finish coat. There are only a few manufacturers of gypsum plaster in the U.S. The product consists of a powder that is similar to cement or lime and is packaged in paper sacks. The base coat material will usually contain a lightweight aggregate called perlite which is mixed with plaster sand and water. The finish coat is traditionally a finer gradation of gypsum, blended only with water. When applying traditional gypsum plaster it is important to control the environment by sealing up the room that the material is being applied in. Gypsum is very susceptible to shrinking, cracking and weakening if the temperature and humidity are not controlled. Direct sunlight and wind can cause gypsum to dry to rapidly. This will cause improper hydration which in turn creates a weak product and different suction rates, affecting the final color. It is important to keep the gypsum damp throughout the process up until the the finish coat. The finish coat is usually white and painted, however, it can be tinted using approved pigment to create integral color.

Some gypsum plaster systems can be applied directly to drywall with the use of bonding agents. This type of plaster, known as “veneer plaster”, is typically applied in one thin coat. Gypsum veneer plaster is fast and usually less expensive than traditional gypsum plaster. When applying a veneer plaster, all joints in the drywall must be prepared with joint compound or with the manufacturer’s recommended joint treatment materials. Once the joints are treated, a bonding agent is required. This is a water based PVA (polyvinyl acetate) or an acrylic bonding agent. PVA bonding agents are for interior use only because they re-emulsify when they get wet. PVA bonding agents are the most popular because they can be dry before the plaster coat is applied (as opposed to an acrylic bonding agent, which must still be wet when the plaster is applied, forcing the applicator to rush the process). A controlled environment is also important when applying a gypsum veneer finish, although some veneers are modified with acrylics, cement and chemicals, providing a better bond, higher compressive and tensile strengths, crack resistance, color retention and crack resistance. These modifications may make the product easier to work with and will give the applicator more flexibility. Once the finish coat is dry and completed, it should be sealed with a water based sealer.

LPG Equipment, Gas Welding – Usages and Safety Tips

The popular jewelry manufacturing procedure was already recognized for the use of gas welding in mid nineteenth century, but only a blend of hydrogen and oxygen was used in the process as, together, they formed a very intense and hot blaze. It was the invention of acetylene at the end of the same century that shaped gas weld what it is today.

Acetylene is a gas that is formed by the chemical grouping of water and calcium carbide; in gas welding, this amalgam may provide flames up to 4000 degrees Fahrenheit. Currently, it is pretty common to use a combination of acetylene and oxygen in gas weld to acquire a higher temperature of 6000 deg. F.

The advantages of gas welding include lower costs, mobility of LPG equipment transport and flexibility, compared to the use of electric set ups.

Moreover, there is no difference in terms of performance since any metal can be welded, cut or heated using a gas weld tool on oxygen and acetylene. If you choose gas weld, ensure that cylinders need to be kept in a vertical order, and that the caps of valve should be in right place when the cylinders are not in use.

The cylinders are associated between them and the torch with all sorts of hoses, available in various sizes; one prominent mention here is that all hoses used in gas welding need to be marked with the kind of repair level they are meant for: light, normal, or heavy.

When purchasing the LPG equipment, make sure that you know all the details for the rubber weld hoses. The user of Gas welding is exposed to the danger of combustion in the hoses and regulators; hence, daily valve tests are required in order to ward off flashbacks.

Some of the gas welding tools are specifically designed to curb flashbacks; which is acquired with the help of a flashback arrestor.

This device is identical to a check valve, but it also includes a trap that cuts of the gas flow when flashback occurs; hence, arrestors are a must-have type of LPG equipment that is important for those who use gas welding equipments.

Gas Welding Safety Tips

To lift up gas cylinders, use the LPG equipments that are designed to perform that task.

Check torches and clean only using suitable tools.

While welding use blowback guard torches.

Always keep a watch on the LPG equipment and fix any leakages at all connections.

Check hoses for worn and leaks spots.

Keep fire extinguishers at handy places, at the welding site.

Keep cylinders and hoses away from flames, sparks, to avoid any holes on it.

Use a flint lighter to fire the flame in welder.

Wholesale Fasteners

The Fastener Quality Act defines a fastener as a screw, nut, bolt, or stud that has external or internal threads, or a load-indicating washer, with a nominal diameter of five millimeters or bigger, one fourth of an inch or greater that contains any quantity of metal and is held out as meeting a standard or specification which requires through-hardening.

This act also prevents sale of illegal and unauthorized sale of fasteners to any industry or company. However buying of wholesale fasteners is not illegal and wholesale fasteners can be bought at any wholesale market. Internet is also a good place to find dealers who are ready to sell fasteners at wholesale rates provided the buyer buys them in bulk.

An advantage of buying fasteners in bulk at wholesale rate is that the intermediary is removed from the financial equation thus increasing the savings of the buyer and augmenting the sale of fasteners. The price of any commodity (let alone fasteners) is inversely proportional to the amount of the same. However, it is illegal to sell fasteners at wholesale prices to anyone without taking the prior permission of National Institute of standards and technology, commerce (NIST).

According to the guidelines laid down by the NIST – Distributors, who are not private label distributors, and people who buy fasteners at wholesale or retail, may mix fasteners of the same type, grade, and dimension from different lots in the same container. However, if a buyer of fasteners asks the seller to mark the container of fasteners with the lot number from which such fasteners were taken, either before the sale or at the time of sale, the seller shall noticeably mark the container of fasteners with the lot number.

The demand for fasteners is slowly but surely increasing because of wholesale pricing methodology. The Internet has also increased the number of wholesalers in the market and has improved the sale of fasteners not only in the United States of America but also on a global scale.

Interesting Facts About Nuts

A daily dose of a handful of nuts brings about immense health benefits. Eating 25-50 grams nuts a day may reduce the risk or diabetes and heart disease. Besides, studies have shown that those who included nuts as part of their diets were slimmer than those who did not. Thus it is a common myth that consuming nuts will cause weight gain. The key is to eat them in moderation.

What is a nut exactly? According to Macquarie Dictionary, ‘nut’ is a type of dry fruit that consists of a nutritive kernel or meat confined in a leathery or woody shell. Botanically, ‘nut’ defines a hard, indehiscent, one-seeded fruit, as the chestnut or the acorn.

Peanuts belong to same botany family as beans and peas, thus they are known as ‘legumes’. Similarly to ‘real’ nuts, they have comparable nutritional levels and promote our health. Therefore, discussion about nuts may apply to peanuts as well.

Nuts possess a large amount of fat and protein. Chestnuts are exceptional, which contains mostly carbohydrate and little amounts of fat or protein. Thus, we can say that, along with fish, meat, eggs, poultry and legumes, nuts may be categorized under the food group of ‘protein’.

Although nuts contain more amounts of fats, these fats are ‘polyunsaturated’ or ‘monounsaturated’. Omega-3 fatty acids found in nuts, for instance have been shown to provide cardiovascular protection and lower ‘bad’ cholesterol.

In addition, almost all nuts are very good sources of the major B vitamins – B1/Thiamine, B2/Riboflavin, and B3/Niacin.

Coconuts, on the other hand are not considered nuts according to the International Nut Council. They do not have equal amounts of fats and on the nutritional scale, coconuts differ greatly from those of ‘real’ nuts.

Coconut milk is extremely high in fat and you should limit your intake of these products. In fact, one cup of fresh coconut milk contains 50 grams of saturated fat from the coconut oil. This amount is more than twice the amount of saturated fat you should have in your diet. Since saturated fat is the major cause of cholesterol, it would be good not to consume them too often.

People who have allergy towards nuts should not be careful not to take those nuts as it is dangerous to their health. When eating out, ensure that the food you eat do not contain even traces of nuts hidden in them.

Nuts are available without salt ‘in the shell’. It is advisable to purchase nuts in their shell as unshelled nuts have a longer shelf life than that of shelled nuts. Properly dried unshelled nuts can keep for several weeks at room temperature. Keep them in airtight containers in a cool and dry location to ensure good quality.

However, since rancidity in nuts is common leading to off-flavors; one method to overcome this problem is to buy nuts in large quantity, then place them in smaller bags and put them in the refrigerator and store them for future use.

How to Troubleshoot a Faulty Electric Gate

Tips For Troubleshooting A Faulty Electric Swing Gate.

A guide with some useful tips for troubleshooting a faulty electric swing gate installation. I hope this guide will help you if you are experiencing problems with your electric gates. It’s intended to help you find the source of the problem and hopefully help you to fix it, or give an accurate account of the problem to your friendly gate repairman.

  • Check the Power Supply. Yes I know it sounds obvious, but some people don’t check. Because the power is on in the house, they assume that it’s on at the gate. Check the circuit breakers. Look at any other equipment, such as the intercom or keypad, to see if the lights are on. Press the buttons on the keypads to see if there is a corresponding beep or sound. All these will give you an indication if there is power at the gates or not. If the circuit breaker keeps tripping call the repairman. If you have electric to the control box check the remote controls.
  • Check the transmitter. There is normally a light on the transmitter (remote control) that indicates that it is working when you press the buttons. This can be misleading, as sometimes the light works, but the signal is not strong enough to reach the receiver. Replace the battery just to be on the safe side. Check with another transmitter if you have one, or use another form of access control i.e. digital keypad, intercom, key switch etc. If the remotes are working, check the photocells if fitted.
  • Check the safety devices. Sometimes a short-circuit on a photo cell could cause the system to stop working. Wave a hand (it’s easier to use one of yours) in front of the photo cell, and you should be able to hear a very quiet click. If you can hear this click, you know that you have electricity into the control box.

If your gates are still not functioning after checking the power supply is present and peripheral equipment is working properly then follow these steps:

If your gates are stuck in the open position and won’t close, try waving your hand in front of one of the photocells (as above) and you should hear a quiet clicking sound. This can only be heard from one of your photocells, so you may need to test them both. If you can’t hear that clicking sound there may be a problem with your safety beam / photocells, or the power to them power to them. It could be that the safety beam has failed because it is broken or it may be full of insects that are blocking the beam, or that it is without power.

It is fairly easy job to remove the cover of the photocell. Check that the beams are clear. There is usually a small light inside the case if it has the correct voltage connected.

You may have the reflector type of photocell, check the alignment, as this is a very common cause of them not working. If the photocells seem to be aligned, but not working, you need to contact a professional. This type of photo cell is normally a sealed unit, without any serviceable parts

If the gates failed in the closed position, using the manual release, move the gates to about half open, if they are on a ram arm system relock the arms. If they are on an underground system leave the gates swinging freely (as you can see the motor turning), now activate the gates with a transmitter (if you are sure that it is working) and observe any movement of the gates. If neither of the motors work, and you know you have the correct power supply, it is likely to be a problem with the electronics on the control card. If one motor works, it is likely that the other motor has failed. If both motors work, this has not provided you with a solution to the problem. It may be a mechanical problem, the gates could be getting jammed on something.

If the gates do start working again, we recommend that you carry on using them only until such a time as a professional can give your gates a service.

Please remember.

Electricity is very dangerous, please do not touch any exposed wires or circuit boards. Turn the power OFF before you open the control box.

Call an expert if you have any doubts.

Leaf Relief Gutter Guard Review – What to Expect From This Gutter Protective Cover

There are not many manufacturers of gutter guards on the market, but the competition between them is severe. That is why it is not uncommon for a product to come with a range of one-sided reviews – some are overly praising it while others denounce it completely. This is applicable to the Leaf Relief gutter guard reviews as well. Read on to find out an objective review of this gutter protective system.

The Leaf Relief gutter guard belongs to the screen type. The panels that cover the gutters have tiny holes for the water to flow through. At the same time the leaves, twigs and other debris are prevented from entering the gutter and clogging it. The panels are made from aluminum. Their top side ends with a runner that is to be slipped under the shingles during installation. The bottom runner is fastened to the lip of the gutter with the use of screws.

The design of the Leaf Relief gutter panels determines the system’s performance. The small holes prevent all kinds of leaves and twigs from falling inside the gutter. This is definitely an advantage. The structure is also effective in preventing larger dust and pollen mites from entering the channel and clogging it. Still, it is still easy for pine needles and debris, such as sand particles, to enter the gutter. Additionally, the small holes are easier to clog, so the water flow rate can be reduced relatively easily.

The surface of the Leaf Relief panels is smooth. This allows the leaves to slide down more easily even with the slightest breeze. However, the screens are not slanting. This means that it is possible for wet leaves falling onto the panels to stick to them during rainy days. This makes it harder for them to fall down on their own.

These gutter guard screens are made from aluminum, which is considered to be one of the best materials for such structures. The main advantage of this metal is that it is totally water resistant. It will not rust after years of use. Aluminum is strong as well, but the Leaf Relief panels are not very thick. This means that they can withstand pressure from snow, but they might get bent.

The Leaf Relief gutter guard is installed with the use of screws. This makes the structure relatively stable, provided that the installation is done properly. For this purpose, you might have to rely on the services of a professional which will make the product costlier.

Moisture in Food Products

Moisture content evaluation is very important in food industry in order to ensure the quality and required standards of food products. Basically the shelf life is highly related to the moisture proportion present in foods.

Water content calculation can also help assessing the foods mostly with respect to the texture, flavor and appearance to achieve better sensory evaluation.

Carrying out processing foods will require scientific knowledge including moisture estimation to determine food properties and their reactions during various processing such as freezing, packaging, heating, etc.

Microbiologically foods are susceptible to microbial load in presence of considerable amount of water. Some certain foods are dried to ensure protecting and extending their stability against bacteria; hence the need to conduct experiments to identify correct amount of moisture.

Chemically there are several methods to estimate water percentage including distillation and oven drying.

Distillation method – it is generally based on Dean-Stark procedures in which a weighed sample added to a flask containing solvents with high boiling point, less density than water and immiscibility in water such as toluene.

The content of flask is discharged through a condenser where it is subsequently distilled to a burette like distillation tube; solvent which is immiscible and lower density stays on the top phase and the water remains at the bottom phase. Solvent returns to the original flask (through an inclined tube linked between the burette and the fractionating column at the top of the flask). Quantity of the collected water is then directly read on the graduated burette and proportionally calculated to work out the percentage of this value.
