5 Essential Medical Machines Used in Hospitals

Today, medical equipment technology is advancing at increasingly rapid speeds, in large part because of the advent of computer technology just a few decades ago. But despite this, some of the most common and essential pieces of medical machinery still in use today had their origin in pre-computer times. Here are 5 of the top medical machines used in hospitals.

Defibrillators remain the best tools for reviving patients during cardiac arrests. Defibrillators can be found in almost every hospital room today along with the first aid kit. Experiments with defibrillation started in the late 19th century, but it wasn’t until 1947 that a defibrillator was first used to resuscitate a human being: a 14 year old patient of Doctor Claude Beck. Beck used his still-not-properly-tested defibrillator when the 14-year-old’s heart stopped in the middle of open heart surgery.

Patient Monitors

One of the most essential tools in the operating room, the patient monitor is a large device that records and interprets the vital signs of a patient during medical care or treatment. Thanks to patient monitors, doctors and nurses are sometimes alerted of incoming changes or dangers to the patients state before symptoms of the changes become physically apparent.

X-ray Machine

It was German physicist Wilhelm Roentgen who accidentally discovered x-rays in 1895 while working on experiments with electron beams. It took many years to get x-rays machines from the large, cumbersome and fatally dangerous things they were at the beginning to the highly useful and very safe instruments they are today. X-ray machines help doctors diagnose illnesses, detect fractured bones, cavities and foreign objects inside the body.

EKG Machine

The first EKG (electrocardiogram) machine was built in 1903 by Willem Einthoven. An EKG machine detects any abnormalities in heart functions by detecting the electrical signals created by the movement of the heart’s muscles. Einthoven assigned the letters P, Q, R, S and T to the various kinds of electrical signals of the heart. His system is still used in modern EKG machines.

Ultrasound Machines

In a similar fashion as sonar, ultrasound machines map the body’s interior tissue and organs by emitting high-pitched sound waves that bounce off internal body structures to produce a visual image of them. Karl Dussik and Ian Donald are the two most well known pioneers of ultrasound technology. In 192, Dussik used ultrasound to examine the human brain and Donald, in the 50s, used ultrasound for diagnostic purposes.

How to Polish and Finish Resin Jewellery

How to Polish Resin Jewellery & Resin Buffing

Resin jewellery has become very popular as creators can create truly original pieces. The processes for making resin jewellery are quite easy using moulds and simple to use resins. This article will look at finishing resin jewellery with polishing and resin buffing methods to create professional quality jewellery pieces.

Once you have de-moulded your jewellery piece and it has cured fully you can refine the jewellery pieces appearance by drilling, sanding, polishing or buffing. Be sure to wear a mask when applying any of these techniques as they will create fine resin dust that you wouldn’t want to inhale.

Hand Sanding and Polishing or Buffing

To start with you may need to use a coarse grade of sandpaper to take off the obvious bumps and imperfections. A grade of 100 to 180 grit is the most suitable for this task. A wooden block for sanding can help to sand only the high points and get a smooth finish.

Next we can move to wet and dry sandpaper for finer sanding with grits starting at 320 and moving through to 400. You can sand the item under running water if you wish to reduce the dust. You can move to even finer grits of 600 through to 1500 to achieve glass like surfaces.

A final polish is needed to bring the surface up to a high gloss. We usually use a polishing compound for buffing resins and a cloth.

Note: This method only applies to polyurethane and polyester resins. With epoxy resins resin buffing is not recommended. Instead we suggest you re-coat the sanded surface with resin to create a high shine. Special coating resins are designed for this task.

Machine Buffing

Resin buffing can be sped up by using machine buffers. Care must be taken however with the speed of the buffer. If speeds are too high then the resin may soften and leave white marks in the surface.

For the same reasons with machine buffing, drilling must also be done at a slow speed. Drill bits can also become clogged if the resin gets to hot and softens.

Be sure to secure the small jewellery piece so that a straight hole can be drilled. We have tried several materials to put between a vice and the jewellery piece so that it doesn’t mark the delicate resin surface and have found that leather is ideal.

If at any time you make a mistake with your drilling you can repair it with additional resin mix.

Attaching Jewellery Findings

When attaching findings to the jewellery pieces epoxy glue is the most suitable. The 5 – 10 minute setting type is ideal. You can also use your original resin mix to attach findings. Leave overnight to set.

To Achieve a Matte Finish

An interesting and different way of finishing resin jewellery is to give the pieces a matte finish. This can be done by sandblasting the cured piece. If you don’t have access to a sandblaster, small units are available at an economical price and are powered by a compressed can of air. Alternatively you can use a pumice rubbing compound to give your pieces a matte finish.

Super Sensitive Clarity Spectrum Rosin For Violin and Viola – A Review

Violin rosin has been used to draw sound from the violin since the first instruments were carved from wood hundreds of years ago. Historically, rosin has been made from pine resin, a natural substance found in trees. Many different companies manufacture rosin, and each variety tends to have different characteristics that affect the sound — shading the tone toward bright or dark, and adding varying degrees of “grittiness” to the feel and sound. Further, choosing the “right” rosin is largely a matter of personal preference. Although it functions well most of the time, pine resin does have some limitations — it can crystallize in the cold, damage the varnish on the violin if left to sit, and often cracks or even shatters rather easily. Also, pine resin is an allergen for some, and can cause sneezing and watery eyes during playing in susceptible people.

Supersensitive Clarity Rosin for Violin and Viola is the first synthetic rosin I have seen that is a viable replacement for pine resin. Formulated to by hypo-allergenic, it does not damage varnish. Further, it is not affected by humidity nor does it absorb moisture, which helps it keep its tackiness without cracking in all seasons. But, most importantly, this rosin actually works nicely — and, when played, seems indistinguishable from ordinary rosin (although its characteristics must be evaluated by the individual player). Using my setup, this rosin produced a smooth tone without much grit and nice clarity. However, every player has different preferences in feel and sound of rosin so no single brand is likely to suit every taste.

As a teacher, I have noticed that many of my younger students enjoy handling and applying rosin to the bow, and so the fact that clarity rosin comes in colors (pink, red, blue, green, and purple) gives it a modern look that is especially appealing to youngsters. Also, young students are more likely to over-apply rosin and also not to wipe the instrument clean as frequently as necessary to prevent ordinary rosin from damaging the finish. Thus, this colorful rosin can also help extend the life of the instrument.

Though I have not found a synthetic substitute for horse hair (or for my wood violins for that matter) that functions as well as the original, this rosin does appear to be a viable substitute for pine resin, and one that adds a little fun and color into the mix as well.

How to Become a Stone Mason

Should you become a mason or bricklayer? Possibly so. After investigation, many people find that masonry is fascinating and rewarding, and indeed the kind of job that becomes more than a job, it becomes a lifelong career.

Stone masonry is one of the oldest trades known to man, there have been people cutting or building with stones or bricks since humans could use tools. There is evidence of stone masonry all over the world, from China to Europe to our own Native American people.

What would you do if you had one of these professions? Basically you would use rock or stone to build structures. Quite often masons or bricklaying use mortar to secure the stones or bricks to each other, but there is a branch of masonry that does not use mortar.Stone cutting is another speciality, almost like sculpture. Common structures that are built include stone houses, stone walls – like the Great Wall in China, and stone paths. Stone is enduring, once you make something as a mason you will have the pride of knowing that it will be around for decades, maybe even hundreds of years.

Masonry is not a profession for the ignorant or unskilled, you need to be able to do math, think creatively and manipulate materials to be able to pull it off. That challenge however, is part of the joy of the field.

The road to become a mason or bricklayer is often not as straight forward as other fields, where you just attend a college and follow the proscribed course that is laid out for you. That is because masonry is a trade, and the easiest way to learn to become a stonemason or blockmason is to find an apprenticeship. Having said that, it is important to realize that many unions have set up masonry institutes to help teach these skills. One of the best ways to find how to get started in this is to talk to a bricklayer in your area.

The job prospects for people in these trades is excellent: the Bureau of Labor Statistics has predicted that there will be a 40 percent growth in the masons needed between the years of 2010 and 2020, which is much, much more than other fields. Jobs as stoneworkers usually pay over twenty dollars an hour, and there is steady work. You can make more if you own your own business or get specialized in areas such as restoration work.

In the past, these trades were a boys only club – but the trades have opened to women, and stone masonry is no exception.

If you are interested in a field that will keep you stimulated, always learning, and reliably paid becoming a stoneworker could be exactly what you need to do.

What is the Best Caribbean Cruise Line and Route?

Caribbean cruises are all the rage these days. When you consider the range of amenities and facilities, the varied ports of call, and the range of activities on offer, Caribbean cruises are pretty good value. They offer much more than any one Caribbean resort can offer, and can be great fun no matter what the weather is like. Modern cruise liners are huge and can usually handle rough weather in stride without the passengers on board even noticing. The popularity of Caribbean cruises has resulted in several cruise lines operating in the region, as well as several different routes to choose from. So how do you decide which cruise line and route?

Firstly, let us take a look at the Caribbean cruise lines on offer. The big names are Royal Caribbean, Princess and Norwegian, and it makes sense to look at these three first. They have made their names based on their reputation of reliability, service and range of amenities, services, activities and routes. The pick of these would have to be Royal Caribbean. They have the largest and most modern fleet of cruise ships in the Caribbean, and, despite normal fares being a tad expensive, have some surprisingly cheap Caribbean cruise package deals especially in the off season. However if you are planning your vacation for a high season, book well in advance as Royal Caribbean is often sold out months beforehand. Norwegian is also a great cruise line and a little cheaper than Royal Caribbean, while Princess is another good option for those looking for a deal. There are several other Caribbean cruise operations that work on theme-based cruises, such as Celebrity, which may suit certain travelers’ tastes.

Now, on to Caribbean cruise routes. Generally cruises take place in a certain area of the Caribbean, visiting the ports of call particular to that region. Basically, the Caribbean Sea can be divided into Eastern, Western, Northern and Southern areas. Depending on the length of the cruise, one or a few of these regions can be explored. There are also cruises just to one destination, such as Bermuda or the Bahamas (both of which are technically not actually part of the Caribbean, but close enough!). Personally, I think the Eastern and Southern routes are the most interesting. The Eastern routes usually stop in at fantastic places such as Antigua, St Kitts, Nevis and Anguilla, all of which are steeped in history and have the friendliest people. These routes may also take you through the French and Netherlands Antilles, which have their own distinctive cultural atmosphere and magnificent sights. The Southern cruises also take you to magical islands such as Trinidad, Tobago, Curacao, Aruba, Barbados and Bonaire. Those with enough time and money can easily combine these two regions into one cruise, seeing what I consider to be the best of what the Caribbean has to offer!

Cat 5, 5E, 6, and 6A Cables – Distance and Speed Limitations

A simplified summary of the specs for the most common categories in use today can help you determine what is right for you.

Category 5-100 mbps-100 meters (328 feet)

Category 5e-1 Gigabit/sec-100 meters (328 feet)

Category 6- 3 Gigabit/sec-100 meters (328 feet)

Category 6A- 10 Gigabit/sec-100 meters (328 feet)

If you have very short runs, you may be able to use the cable at a lower rating than officially required. For example, on a 10 Gigabit application it is usually possible to go up to 35 meters on a Category 6 cable. Another possible application is a 30 foot run at 3 Gigabit on a Cat 5e cable which should work correctly because its such a short run. If you have the luxury of trying out short applications you may be able to operate with cable rated at one lower category than the 100 meter rated cable for the required speed.

There are also considerations when the cable runs near power lines or fluorescent lights where there is a possibility of increased crosstalk, that may have to be dealt with. In a well designed Data Center cable layout, there are often 4 separate layers of cables including copper cables, fiber cables, power cables, and ground lines. Certain cable layouts have crosstalk considerations that can indicate the use of (ScTP) overall shielded pairs, or (STP) shielded pairs and overall shielding rather than (UTP) unshielded twisted pair cable.

Installation is also very important to make sure that the system supplies the standards that the components are designed to. Sloppy punch downs on the 110 Patch Panels may effect the system operation.

Also a Cat5E Jumper put serially into a system of Cat 6 cable components will bring the entire Cat 6 run down to a Cat 5e level or less.

Finally it is important to design the data system with the future requirements in mind. If the system will have to be upgraded in the foreseeable future to handle higher frequencies or longer runs or a combination of both, it is usually much more costly when the labor charges are taken into consideration to have to make any major changes. Therefore the level of cable should include the increased capability required in the future, on the initial installation.

Mortgage Promissory Note, Allonge, And Mortgage Foreclosure Help

A mortgage promissory note is a promise to pay. If you don’t pay, then your home or commercial property could go into foreclosure where the Lender, bank servicer, trustee, or investor can use questionable tactics to get your property. There is a mortgage that goes along with the note, a contract in real estate. The Bank Lender created both the note and mortgage for their benefit. You can use their own promissory note and mortgage contract against them to regain your home or property. Let’s talk about the note first.

The note on the last page should have an allonge or allonges to prove a true sale(s) to a Trust, another bank, or investor each and every time the note with the mortgage is sold, assigned, or transferred. An allonge is an illegal alteration of an incomplete note. An allonge in blank, without the assignee signing it is illegal as per the Uniform Commercial Code, UCC, Federal code of laws that is controlling the world and the lender’s Pooling and Servicing Agreement that controls the Trust that your note and mortgage are supposed to be in.

When the lender assigns, transfers, or sells the note and mortgage, they become securitized and are sold multiple times to investors or into a trust for multiple streams of income for the lender. Within 30 days of each assignment, transfer, or sell, the assignment of true sale must be recorded under States’ statute. The dates of the allonge endorsement(s) and the notarized assignment(s) must match to prove true sales before a foreclosure can legally occur.

In addition to other disclosures required by TILA, 15 U.S.C. ยง1641(f)(2), Liability of assignees, not later than 30 days after the date on which a mortgage loan, including mortgage and note, is sold or otherwise transferred or assigned to a third party, the creditor that is the new owner or assignee of the debt shall notify the borrower in writing of such transfer, including-

(A) the identity, address, telephone number of the new creditor;

(B) the date of transfer;

(C) how to reach an agent or party having authority to act on behalf of the

new creditor;

(D) the location of the place where transfer of ownership of the debt is

recorded; and

(E) any other relevant information regarding the new creditor.

This requirement of law is quite useful in a case when you have authoritative documentation that there are other holders of the note that are not the same as the party who claims the right in a mortgage foreclosure action.

It can be the catalyst to force the court to make the foreclosure attorney to produce the note titled to them and other evidences of ownership of the loan since it is a violation of Federal and State law not to. True fraud evidence becomes a very useful plank in your quiet title law suit to oppose and stop foreclosure.

In most foreclosure cases, the judge does not know the law governing the real estate mortgage and note under the Uniformed Commercial Code of Federal Laws, UCC, Articles 3, 8, and 9. Otherwise, the judge would know that bank securitization is unlawful and illegal and the homeowner would win against the banks every time. We surveyed 10 judges in the State of Florida in 10 different counties and only one judge knew what bank mortgage securitization actually is and how it affected mortgage foreclosure cases.

The mortgage is created to perfect the note. There are no such words in Black’s Law dictionary as a security instrument. It is a made up terminology by the banking industry to take your money and property. The mortgage is the contract with many legal flaws. Nowhere does it say that the note and mortgage must be paid by the borrower.

Interior Decorating

Interior Decorating refers to the decorating and furnishing of interior spaces in homes, offices, schools, and public spaces. It deals with all aspects of lighting, color, texture, paint, furniture purchase and placement, flooring selection and installation, fabric installations, window treatments, and accessories. An Interior Decorator is charged with applying or updating the finishes and elements that will be included within a room space.

The manner in which you design the interiors of your home, it is an important factor in making your home more attractive and relaxing. A great part of your home needs some point of enhancement, and this you can easily do so by using appropriate carpeting, painting, tiling, lighting fixture, furniture, murals, and so on. However, you also need to keep in mind that home interior decorating and styling are constantly changing. Practically every day, you can find a variety of new designs. Well it doesn’t matter whether you have a big space or a small one. With a bit of creativity you can always do something wonderful with it. For example if you have a small space, you obviously would not need a lot of furniture pieces around. However, if you have a bookcase that you cannot do without, simply integrate it into a wall so you can save space. You can invest in some good quality lampshades, wallpaper, linens and many others to liven up a room. Interior decorating of home can be really exciting and enjoyable.

There are many ways that you can upgrade your home with interior decorating yourself, or you can even hire a professional interior designer to do the work for you. When you are starting an interior decorating of your house, there are several things you should keep in mind. For starters, you need to think of the style of design you are going for. It can be a bit upsetting if each room has a completely different style, so give this a lot of thought. There are many styles of interior decoration, from modern to French country. Some people prefer a spotless white look while others prefer to fill their space with colour. It is important to refer to home decorating and design magazines to see what other people have done and find out which style strikes your fancy!! Just remember that every little thing you put into your home becomes a part of the decoration, so choose carefully.

Leadership – Inside, Outside

In this article I aim to achieve the following:

– dispel common myths about leadership,

– emphasize the tremendous importance of personal leadership in all walks of life,

– reveal a surprising facet of leadership  and

– leave you with steps to take to develop a key quality of effective leadership.

Intrigued, then read on!

Leadership is a concept that is mis understood by many people.Until recently that included me as well.

Leadership is not about telling people what to do. Nor is leadership something that has to be practiced only by senior executives in large corporations. Leadership is not a genetic trait though some are born great leaders. Leadership is very much a learnable skill. Research conducted into the lives of some of the greatest leaders reveals undeniable evidence that they had picked up effective leadership skills on the way.

To really understand leadership you have to do the following:

– Understand the evolution of leadership down the ages

– Consider some of the important leadership models

– look both inside yourself and outside.

While there are various definitions of leadership, some so academic you would become more confused than enlightened, the one I like best is:

“Leadership is about CHANGING the status quo”. – Wyatt Woodsmart

Note that leadership is not about keeping things the same.

Another definition that I like is by Eben Pagan:

“Leadership is the ability to effect human behavior so as to accomplish a mission”.

A Brief History of Leadership

When society first developed, a hierarchical model of leadership evolved. Some leaders were great and their people flourished. Some were not and their people suffered.

As society evolved further we got religious leaders.

And later, politicians emerged as elected leaders.

And finally business leaders.

Managers came into existence much more recently in the late nineteenth century. The common belief is that managers were invented when two trains one each from Buffalo and New York city collided. A post mortem revealed the need to have someone oversee the movements of trains.

Traditional Model

In the traditional model a charismatic / autocratic leader of pre eminent status creates a vision for the future. He then issues clear directions to his followers.

Orders flow from top to bottom.

Information flows from top to bottom.

The Modern Model.

Leadership is a collaborative process. Anyone can engage in leadership when there is a need for change.

We cannot do it all ourselves, we need others. Hence the need for collaboration.

The Inner Game of Leadership

The concept of the inner game first came into popular vogue with the publication of the phenomenal book “The Inner Game of Tennis” by Timothy Gallwey in 1972. Gallwey wrote “Every game is composed of two parts, an outer game and an inner game.” The former is played against opponents, and is filled with lots of contradictory advice; the latter is played not against, but within the mind of the player, and its principal obstacles are self-doubt and anxiety.

This concept can be extended to leadership as well. What goes on inside you is more important than what goes on outside. Your state of mind, your visualizations, your beliefs, self motivation, internal behavior, how you perceive problems etc.

The inner game of leadership is particularly challenging to understand. In the business world an undue emphasis is placed on results. Results that are tangible, quantifiable and measurable. In other words the emphasis is completely on the outer game, what happens on the outside.

Most successful leaders operate out of unconscious competence. They do not know what they are doing right mentally.

Leadership and You

If you look at some of the biggest losers in life a common theme you will notice is their lack of leadership. A lack which manifests itself in their inability to attract people that can help them, an inability to collaborate with people that can help them.

Leadership is an important skill for the future because it connects people. An important equation to know is:

Your Success in Life = Your Skill As a Leader

Until you can lead yourself it is very difficult to lead others.

A Surprising Take on Leadership

Most people think leadership is about ordering people around but to become a great leader you need to become a great follower. When you become a good follower you put your personal needs aside to serve and support others. Think of it. You get promoted because you serve your boss well. Often the person at the top is one who is best at supporting others.

The best leader is one who is the best supporter of others.

What is a vision – a key attribute of effective leadership

Humans have a unique gift, an ability to imagine a future that does not yet exist. A vision is a constructive picture, an image or a slide. It does not exist yet and is better than the present.

Leadership is about conscious change so vision is key to successful leadership. All change starts with the vision. To get other people to follow you we need to communicate a clear picture to others so that picture will enter their minds and become an attractor. In the modern world the collaborative group comes together to create the vision. Therefore the real key is in creating a compelling vision conjuring up all your creativity and imagination..

To develop a vision we should engage in reflective thinking. We should replace:

Information with inspiration

Knowledge with wisdom

Isolationist thinking with systems thinking

Detailed thinking with big picture thinking

Short term thinking with long term thinking

Things that divide us with things that unite us

Overture Keyword Tool

Still looking for the elusive Overture keyword tool? The keyword tool that is free and give s you the key to the internet riches you have been dreaming of? Sorry pal, but that ain’t gonna happen. Just like the way of solid free tools across the internet, the Overture tool is dead and gone. The time of the free tool is over. And so is your success if that is what you are going into battle with if you are going to compete with me. That’s right. I said it. I will beat the pants of you and send you home to your mama every time you come at my niche with those free tools.

Let me tell you why. There are so many free tools out there (the Overture keyword tool really is dead) right now it will singe the outer crust of your brain trying to sort through the bull to find out what is what and try to make an educated decision. And just when you think you have it all figured out, you move on to find that free ain’t really free and the bait you just bit was a ploy to get you in the door. See, the developers of these paid tools you see advertised are not just going to give you the milk for free. There is a price to pay and the cow needs to be fed. You didn’t really believe some one is going to slave over code for months without expecting some kind of return for his labor did you? They want you to get a taste and get familiar, then you will buy. This they know. It’s like giving away crack till the junkie is hooked.

You will buy a tool that does what the Overture keyword tool used to do. And it will the tool built buy the guy that got you in the door first. Doesn’t that just scratch you the wrong way? Don’t hold your breath for an apology. It is called marketing, right or wrong. He gives you a little for free but if you want the whole story you have to pay the teller, preferably with more now than you would have before. For now you know more about just how much you didn’t really know before. Clear as mud?

The Overture keyword tool is gone. The time of the paid tool is here. If you compete without a good tool (paid tool), you will get your rear end handed to you on a platter. I know if it is me you are going to compete with, you better do your homework. And good luck doing it with that free keyword tool. Even Google is bating you up with that dead fish.

All About Civil Engineering

A career in civil engineering is not only exciting, it’s also rewarding. As a civil engineer you work in the field. You can also work in the office doing design. If you like multitasking, you can work both in the office and field.

What You Will Be Doing As A Civil Engineer

To be competitive in the job market and also gain more skills it’s wise that you consider furthering your education.

Compassionate Detachment – Loving Enough to Let Go

When I was young I discovered a chrysalis hanging from a branch in some scrub oak near our house. Each day after this discovery I would go out and check on this chrysalis in the hopes of seeing the butterfly that I knew was inside. You can imagine how excited I was when one day I came out to find the head of this butterfly sticking out from a hole in the bottom of the cocoon!

I stood fascinated by the whole process, but wait… something was wrong. The butterfly seemed to struggle and not be getting anywhere. I decided to help. Very carefully I began to pull the silk from around the butterfly until I had a hole big enough to tear the cocoon open. With a “plop” the butterfly hit the ground. It wasn’t the magnificent flying creature I had envisioned. Its wings were rolled up tight and it eventually died. I couldn’t believe what had just happened. Instead of being a witness to the wonder of the butterfly’s flight, I was the cause of its death.

Had I known then what I know now about compassionate detachment, that butterfly would have lived to fulfill its life’s mission. I learned much later in life that the struggle I had witnessed was actually necessary for the butterfly to live. The effort to get out of the cocoon causes fluid to be pumped into the wings and without that fluid the butterfly can’t unroll. By stepping in and interfering with this process I didn’t allow the butterfly to develop according to its nature. I prevented the struggle that was necessary to make it strong.

Compassionate detachment simply means we are not attached physically, spiritually, mentally and especially emotionally to the events, things, and people in our lives that we have compassion for. This does not mean we don’t care – because compassion is caring. It means we are not attached in a way that fails to serve the highest good of all.

What exactly is the highest good? The truth is that most of the time we just don’t know. Unfortunately, that doesn’t stop us from trying to insert our wisdom and sometimes even insisting that people take our advice. However well intentioned I was when I was younger, I didn’t know what was for the highest good of the butterfly and my interference and insistence cost that creature its life.

If it was difficult to watch the struggle of a butterfly, how difficult must it be to watch the struggle of a loved one?

What if it is your child? Suppose a child was born into a loving, yet very over-protective family. The parents, in their idea of love declared, “Our child will be protected from all of the evils of life. Kids will never make fun of him or tease him because we will never allow him out of the house. He will stay here where he is loved and protected. He will never have to be subjected to germs and pollutants nor will anything harmful every come into contact with him.”

The mother would cook every meal for him throughout the rest of his life. He will never have to cook and risk being burned by a hot stove. The father said, “He will never have to work because he could be injured on the job and we would never want to see our child hurt.” They agreed that since he would never have to work he would never have to go to school. “Why should we subject him to cruel and unkind people? Why should he have to exert all that effort to learn anyway? Plus the history books are full of stories of war, famine, slavery and other atrocities. It is better that he not have to hear such negative things.”

They also agreed that he should never date or marry because how easy would it be for a girl to break his heart? “It is better to just keep him here with us where he is loved and protected,” they said. They told him, “Don’t run, don’t jump, don’t climb on things and stay out of all the rooms where there are dangerous things because we love you and don’t want to see you get hurt. It’s for your own good.” …Okay, by now you are probably saying, “I get the point!” I give you this extreme and hypothetical situation to overstate that not all struggle or pain is bad.

There is a fine line between aiding someone – and carrying them in a way that robs them of the life lessons needed to make them strong and help them become capable of carrying out their life’s mission. Each person comes into this world with his own load, for which he and he alone is responsible. Anyone who attempts to carry another’s load (or shirk his own) is not serving anyone’s highest good. In fact, that is a disservice and could stunt or prevent the growth necessary to carry them through their lie’s mission. Sometimes you have to love a person enough to let go. Let them learn their lessons.

When you let go of someone by being compassionately detached, you don’t let go so they fall. You let go so they can fly!

Sleeping Bag Insulations and Their Benefits

Sleeping bags are sold in different styles (mummy, rectangular, hooded, and kids’ sleeping bags), for varying temperatures (extreme weather, cold weather, three season, and warm weather sleeping bags), and with many different insulations (synthetic fibers and down fill). Sleeping bag insulations should be considered when purchasing your next bag. Here are some commonly used insulations and their benefits.

Slumberloft HQ(TM)

is a synthetic fiber composed of a 50% hollow core polyester fiber joined with a 50% solid core polyester fiber. This combination offers great warmth and loft. Examples of sleeping bags with Slumberloft HQ are: Slumberjack – Latitude, Long -20F/-29C and Slumberjack – Lil’ Timber, Kids Bag +10F/-12C.

DuPont Hollofil® 808

is a synthetic fiber. Its hollow core is designed to trap more air for greater warmth and loft. Examples of sleeping bags with this insulation are: Coleman – Crescent +15F/-9C and Coleman – Mountain Lodge, King -5F/-21C.

DuPont Hollofil® II

is a synthetic fiber that features four hollow tunnels that run throughout its length. With four compartments per fiber to trap air, it typically provides even more warmth and compactibility than Hollofil 808. An example of a sleeping bag with this insulation is: Coleman Exponent – Northbound +0F/-18C.

DuPont Thermolite® Extreme

is a high performance insulation that blends three different fibers – fine denier fibers, thermal bonding fibers, and hollow core spring fibers. This tri-blend fiber system offers ultimate warmth and superior compactibility. Examples of sleeping bags with this insulation are: Slumberjack – Diablo +40F/+4C and Slumberjack – Odyssey, Long +10F/-12C.

DuPont Thermolite® Extra

Because it is made from unique patented hollow-core, three-dimensional crimp having a helical configuration, it provides superior loft, compactness, and exceptional resiliency. An example of a sleeping bag with this insulation is: Slumberjack – Telluride, Long +30F/-1C.

Polarguard® HV

is a high-performance insulation made of high-void, continuous-length polyester filaments that are bonded into a batting of multiple layers. Because it is a continuous filament, Polarguard HV does not shift, clump, or separate. An example of a sleeping bag with this insulation is: Coleman Exponent – Boulder Ridge +20F/-7C.

Polarguard® 3D

is a high performance insulation produced from continuous filament in the same manner but finer than Polarguard HV. This makes Polarguard 3D softer, more compressible and stronger while providing great insulating value and loft. Examples of sleeping bags with this insulation are: Sierra Designs – Paul Bunyan, Long +10F/-12C and Sierra Designs – Rosa, Regular +20F/-7C – Women’s sleeping bag.

Polarguard® Delta

continuous filament polyester is the newest member of the Polarguard family. Polarguard Delta combines a super void cross section with modified batt formation. The larger void creates higher loft with less weight, making it warmer, yet lighter. An example of a sleeping bag with this insulation is: Sierra Designs – LX, Regular +45F/+7C.

You Can Heal Yourself Naturally by Super-Hydrating Your Body With Alkaline Antioxidant Water

Alkaline antioxidant water contains the natural hydrating properties that water was intended to have by nature. You can heal yourself at the cellular level where healing naturally begins by properly hydrating your cells. This is a simple process when you have the right tools.

Your body renews itself every seven years through cellular regeneration so depending on how healthy, hydrated and detoxified your cells are will depend on the health of the new cells created. Can you imagine? If you feed and hydrate your body right you can have a new body in seven years!

Water is the most important substance you need because your body “is” 70% water. You lose water when you sleep, breathe, through urinating, defecating, and of course sweating. Most people don’t realize how much their body needs water, let alone the fact that you can heal yourself if you have the “right” water. For example, you could live a few weeks or even a few months without food, depending how healthy you are to begin with. But if you don’t have water you will die generally within 3-5 days give or take a day. That’s something to think about.

Severe dehydration – going without water for 3-5 days can kill you, but if you remain in a state of even mild or moderate dehydration as most people do, you set yourself up for disease- not a quick death, but most definitely a prolonged one. Most of the population is dehydrated due to the substances they drink because most drinks and most types of water are not absorbable by your body’s cells. Dehydration leads to excess acid build-up stored in your system because your body doesn’t have the ability to flush these toxins out. Dehydration leads to an acid alkaline imbalance.

Alkaline antioxidant water has the ability to be absorbed into your cells to “super-hydrate” you so that your cells can continually detoxify from acid build-up. This is one of the tools you need so you can heal yourself. In addition to being able to super-hydrate and detoxify you, this water also has other life-giving properties. It has the ability to alkalize your body, give your blood the oxygen it needs for optimum health and healing, and more antioxidants than green tea or any supplement available to enhance your ability to fight damaging free radicals that also lead to disease.

The Hazards of Sodium Hydroxide

Sodium hydroxide is one of the most dangerous chemicals. It is one of the strongest alkaline, known as caustic soda or lye. It is white, odorless and non-volatile in aqueous solutions. It is not readily flammable. However, it is a highly reactive substance. It forms an exothermic solution with water, evolving heat which may ignite combustible materials nearby. Its reaction with other metals yields hydrogen gas which ignites in the presence of oxygen. Moreover, this substance is extremely corrosive.

This compound is found in many manufacturing plants. It is used in the following industrial purposes: manufacture of soaps, detergents and cleaning agents; processing of cotton and production of rayon and cellophane; processing of petroleum and natural gas; manufacture of pulp and paper; and various other chemical processing like pH control and acid neutralization. This chemical is also found in textile processing, vegetable oil refining, water treatment, manufacture of glass, preparation of adhesives, and stabilization of sodium hypochlorite. It is used in the processing of aluminum and degreasing of metals.

This compound is either used in industries as a pure solid substance or in solutions with water at varying concentrations. It may be found with impurities like sodium chloride, sodium carbonate, and metals like iron and nickel.

This chemical is known in chemistry to be one of the most dangerous substances that must be handled with extreme caution.

This alkaline substance does not form vapors but may form aerosol dust which can be inhaled. Reports from cases of inhalation of caustic soda suggest that this compound has the ability to irritate the respiratory tract lining. A lung injury known as pulmonary edema or the accumulation of fluid in the lungs may happen. Workers exposed to a hot mist of this compound in unventilated area will experience tightness of chest, difficulty in breathing, and cough. This is due to the body’s defense mechanism against the irritant. There was a reported case of a man who sustained severe pulmonary injury due to inhalation of aerosol containing the substance. This happened when water was poured onto sodium hydroxide pellets.

This compound is very corrosive that it should not come in contact with any part of the body. During skin exposure, the substance causes severe burning, ulceration and scarring. One of the dangers of skin exposure is that the chemical tends to destroy deeper layers of the skin until it is washed off. The extent of injury depends on the length and amount of exposure.

Another thing which must be guarded is the possibility of eye contact because the chemical can penetrate deep into the eyes. One of the most obvious symptoms of eye injury due to exposure is damage on the cornea accompanied by clouding and loss of normal vision. This could progress to eye disorders like glaucoma and cataract. The ulceration and clouding in the eye may continue resulting to permanent blindness.

Accidental ingestion of the alkaline may result to even more serious conditions. The substance is likely to corrode anything in its path. Thus, severe burns in the mouth, throat, esophageal lining, and gastric lining may happen. This could be accompanied by vomiting and loose bowel movement. In severe cases hemorrhage and perforation may occur, which leads to death.

These, however, are results of initial and acute exposures. Chronic exposure is one thing that concerns most workers in industrial plants where sodium hydroxide is introduced and utilized. Continual skin contact causes the skin to become dry, cracked, and inflamed. Chronic respiratory exposure may cause serious obstruction in the airway.

A research was conducted to determine whether the inorganic base is responsible for cancer. Individuals who were frequently exposed to it were called in for the study. There is a speculation that the alkaline causes cancer of the esophagus to individuals who have accidentally swallowed it. However, the cancer does not develop until more than ten years from exposure. The same cancer tissue growth has been noticed in areas of the skin that suffered previous burns. But experts believe that the cancerous growths have been due to the damage to the tissue and formation of scar and not directly caused by chemical exposure.
