Interior Design Tips – Making a Sample Board

Just as room plans need to be a true representation of the room in miniature, it is important for sample boards to reflect the right mix and balance of colors and materials in a scheme. When making a sample board, try to position samples according to their location in the room: for instance, carpet at the bottom of the board, wall and curtain samples near the top and furnishing samples in the middle.

It is also good to gauge the size of the sample according to the size of area it will cover in the room: for example, your wall covering sample should be much larger than your cushion fabric sample.

Artist’s mounting board of A2 size (about 45 x 60 cm / lft 6in x 2ft) forms an ideal base for your display of samples, though any neutral-colored board of a similar size could be substituted. Simply attach the sample squares to the board – double-sided tape is the easiest method – and label each one with its purpose, ‘curtain fabric’, ‘floor coverings’ and so on.

If it helps you to visualize the finished room, include any other items that will form part of the scheme, such as illustrations of ceiling fans, light fittings and furniture. It is also a good idea to label each board with its room title, especially if you are decorating a whole house.

When your board is complete, you will be quite surprised how well it represents the finished scheme – the mix of colors, the number of textural contrasts and array of patterns all working together. Any anomalies or imbalance should show up now. Perhaps your scheme is too dark or too bland. Perhaps it has too few shiny surfaces or too many patterns. All these elements and more will be demonstrated in your sample board and can be corrected at this early inexpensive stage.

Scheme Sheet

As a back-up to your sample board, or when there is insufficient time to prepare a board, there is another system of recording a scheme that professionals use. It is referred to as a scheme sheet and is, in essence, a mini sample board. This scheme color reference system will fit neatly into a file and can be taken with you on shopping trips. Unlike the sample board, it requires little artistry and can be made up in no time at all.

The scheme sheet consists of a form, which can be easily drawn up by hand or produced on a personal computer and which slots into a plastic file. This can then be filed in a letter size ring binder and transported wherever you like. Simply fill in the title of the room at the top of the page and below add in each surface you are going to represent by a sample.

In the centre column write any information you consider relevant to describe me finish or material in question, In the last column attach a small sample of the material described. In the case of a patterned material, select a section that shows as many colors as possible – a larger sample can always be kept within a sleeve of clear plastic. And there you have it: a useful sample board in miniature.

Basic Color Palette of Acrylic Paint

There are many mediums available for an Artist to experiment with but I believe that Acrylic Paint is the best and easiest for beginners. Acrylic dries quickly and wash up in water. If you want to lengthen the time that it takes to dry, you can mix Extenders and Retarders. By extending the drying time of acrylic paint you can blend colors more easily with one another while you are working on an art project. Artists who paint model figures often use Extenders or retarders, Some Artists simply prefer Acrylic paints over other paints, but it takes a little more time to finish the work.

Acrylic Paint can be mixed with a huge range of media and you can add a variety or texture to your art by mixing other media to the paint. You can use sand, rice, pasta and salt or when the paint dries you can use pen, charcoal, pastels on the top of the paint to give a different texture.

What colors do you need to start out?

As we all know we can make a huge collection of colors by mixing red, blue and yellow and most of us like to squeeze colors directly from a tube. Here we list some colors to make up a good palette and you can add more colors you need.

Cadmium Red – Cadmium red is a yellowish, warm red color and relatively opaque.

Phthalo Blue – It is an extremely versatile blue. It goes very dark when combined with burnt umber and, You can create a lighter blue by mixing it with white because of its high tinting strength.

Titanium White – it is an opaque, bright white color with a strong tinting. Some manufacturers also provide a “mixing white”, which is the most affordable and, as the name suggests, it is formulated to blend with other colors.

Mars Black – It is a relatively opaque color and should be added to other colors in small quantities until you’ve got used to its strength. Another option is ivory black, but only if you’re not squeamish about it being made from charred bones.

Cadmium Yellow – You can easily create a lighter yellow by adding white to this. Remember that if you want to darken yellow to try adding its complements colors, purple, rather than black.

Purple – Buy a very dark purple because you can waste a lot of paint trying to mix one.

Orange – Make Orange by mixing red and yellow and you can also buy ready made orange color in a tube.

Phthalo Green – Phthalo green is a bright and bluish green. You can get a variety of shades of greens by mixing it with cadmium yellow.

Paynes Gray – It is a versatile, transparent dark blue-gray made from a mixture of black and blue with some red.

Yellow or golden ocher – It is a yellowish brown, golden and glorious color.

Raw titanium – It is a deep cream useful for mixing with burnt umber to create skin tones.

Working at Height – How to Develop a Rescue Plan

Rescue plans don’t have to be complex.

Employers should implement a rescue plan that includes procedures for:

  • Preventing prolonged suspension
  • Performing rescue and treatment as quickly as possible
  • Identifying suspension trauma signs and symptoms

Management responsibility for safety needs to give careful consideration to the methodology of rescuing a fallen operative. Such considerations might include:

Dialing 999(911). – Often we think of the word ‘rescue’ as calling 999(911), but calling the local fire brigade does not constitute an effective rescue plan. Response times can be too slow, and not all fire brigades have the capability to rescue from height.

Crane Man Basket – This option has severe limitations, the main one being time. Target time from ‘Man Down’ to being recovered needs to be no more than five to ten minutes maximum. Other restrictions and shortcomings that make this a less than ideal solution are – the crane is out of action for some reason, e.g. it may be:

  • winded-off

  • the driver may be away from the crane

  • rescue by crane is limited to building facades and often is not able to provide access and rescue internal to the structure

  • the crane man basket may be in the wrong location.

Mobile Elevated Working Platforms (M.E.W.P.’s) – This option for rescue can have its limitations such as available access and height restriction as the casualty may be at a height greater than the reach of the M.E.W.P.

Rope Access Rescue – Rope rescue requires a technical competency which demands a high level of training and re-training to acquire and retain this skill set. Given the limited time to complete a rescue, trained rope rescue personnel would need to be on stand-by and within close proximity to any incident. Donning the necessary kit to carry out a rope rescue can also be time consuming given that every minute the casualty is hanging is critical. Perhaps the greatest restriction is that it is a skill to which only a few would, or could be trained.

Third Party Rescue Systems – There are a number of considerations to take into account when considering third part rescue systems. In every consideration TIME is the critical factor. The speed with which the system can be deployed and the rescue carried out is vitally important, as is the SIMPLICITY and EASE of use so that a typical operative can deploy and carry out a rescue after being trained. Remember, whichever methodology you choose, the target time should be to rescue the casualty in under ten minutes.

Planning for Fall Protection must include Rescue – Having a rescue plan is just as important as having a fall protection plan. No site should have one without the other. Just putting together a fall protection program without rescue is only doing half the job. The onus is on the employer to ensure that the suspended operative is rescued quickly. That means ensuring that for anyone who works at height, there is a rescue plan.

Fall protection must include an emergency rescue plan – How will you rescue an operative who has fallen and is suspended in a fall-arrest system? Answering some basic questions can help in developing a rescue plan.

Developing a Rescue Plan – A rescue plan requires answers to the following questions.

If an operatives fall is arrested, can they be rescued in under ten minutes?

How will you know that someone has fallen?

  • Will someone see it happen?

  • Co-workers

  • Other trades

  • Plant personnel

  • Members of the public

What communication systems will be used between the suspended operative and the rescue team?

  • Voice

  • Whistle

  • Mobile Phone

Who will the Co-worker call?

  • Nearest co-workers

  • Supervisor

  • Site Management

  • 999(911) Fire /ambulance where available

Is information available? Who and how will it be communicated?

  • Emergency phone numbers

  • Site address

  • Directions and access for ambulance/fire vehicle or other emergency services

  • Which floor/how high up
  • Operatives condition after fall

How will the safety of the rescuers be assured, as well as that of the suspended operative?

  • Are operatives trained and competent in the use of rescue equipment?

  • Is there sufficient number of trained personnel on-site?

  • Are rescue-training records kept up-to-date including any re-assessments?

  • Is the rescue equipment selected appropriate for the nature of the work?

  • What obstructions are in the way reaching the suspended operative?

  • Have assessments been made of anchor points?

  • Has consideration been given to the method of attaching to the casualty?

How will rescue workers get to the casualty?

  • Rescue Ladder System

  • Rescue Haul / Winch System

  • Keys to building and roof

  • Elevator

  • Pull casualty in through window or balcony

  • Pull casualty up to floor/slab/roof

  • Lower casualty to ground level
  • Climb / rappel down the building/structure

  • Aerial equipment from ground

  • Suspended access equipment

  • Crane Man Basket

How will rescue be assured within five minutes of the occurrence of a fall to minimize the risk of further injury or death due to suspension trauma? And, what rescue equipment is needed?

  • Rescue Ladder

  • Rescue Haul / Winch System

  • Suspended access equipment

  • Ropes

  • Aerial ladder truck

  • M.E.W.P. or scissor lift

  • Climbing / rope rescue equipment

  • Crane Man Basket

  • First aid kit

  • Stretcher available should casualty be seriously injured

What if the operative is injured?

  • Can the casualty still be rescued within five to ten minutes?

  • Is there a qualified first-aid er who understands suspension trauma and knows how to treat it?

  • Who and how will the emergency services and hospital be alerted?

How will the public be protected?

  • Assign someone to direct traffic

  • Set up barriers

How will the accident scene be protected?

  • Prevent further injury or damage

  • Set up barriers

  • Preserve wreckage

  • Aid investigation later

Are there other considerations?

  • Working alone

  • Language barrier

  • Unusual features of building/structure

  • Wind

  • Other hazards

  • No emergency services nearby

  • Distance from rescue teams

WARNING! An operative who has suffered a fall and is suspended in his harness is a true medical emergency. Just because they are hanging in a harness doesn’t mean you have all day to perform the rescue. Rescue has to be planned, practiced and performed quickly and effectively or the victim may very well die before the rescue finally occurs.

If you’re not going to give your employees the skills to perform rescue, then you might as well not even put them in the harness at all.

Practice can save lives Perhaps just as important as having a rescue plan in place is practicing the plan before a real-life fall occurs.

How will the operative call for help?

Why You Need a Lawn Trenching Tool

A lawn trenching tool is a heavy duty piece of equipment for an edger. It has an angled edge and a step plate that leaves you with a professional looking lawn edge. It is really easy to use with an 8 inch edge for use with the edges of sidewalks, driveways, walkways and even plants. The tool itself is 33 inches long and is built of solid construction so that it will last you a long time. You can also get larger trenching tools at 13 inches.

If you have this type of tool for trenching your lawn, you have the perfect tool for digging the trench you need for installing electrical wires, materials for the edge of the lawn and water pipes. The angle head design of the tool will easily cut through sod and hard packed soil. This is a lot easier than trying to dig with a shovel or spade. The extra large footplate makes it easy to use the tool and gives you more leverage.

It is the perfect addition to your lawn tools because it won’t do any harm to your lawn. After you install any wires or pipes, you can just refill the trench with the dirt and there won’t be any sign that you disturbed the turf. In addition to creating perfect edges around the lawn, this tool is great for scraping ice and snow from the edge of the driveway. At a suggested retail price of about $37 US, it is one lawn tool you can’t afford to be without.

How to Locate the Best Cape Cod Canal Striped Bass Jigging Spots

Without a doubt nothing beats the excitement of watching a large striped bass crush a top-water plug at the Cape Cod Canal. However when it comes to consistently catching large striped bass from the “Big Ditch,” concentrating on working the bottom of the land cut can pay off in a big way.

However one can not expect to just toss a jig anywhere in the canal and be rewarded with success. This slim ribbon of fish filled water has its hot spots and dead zones like any other fishing area along the striper coast. Being able to find the dramatic drop-offs, underwater humps, rocky ledges and relentless rips is key to consistently taking big bass off the bottom.

Striped bass flock to areas of structure like bees to honey. Often times the fish will position themselves deep in a hole, or right behind a rock ledge. The structure breaks up the swift current, basically in the same way a building blocks a stiff breeze.

Traditional striper theory states that cow stripers will use current blocking pieces of structure to gain a competitive advantage on their prey. The strong Cape Cod Canal current pushes all sorts of bait fish and prey items downstream. Crafty striped bass will take position behind a piece of structure, and then ambush prey as it tumbles in the current.

What this means for the angler is that being able to offer a well placed jig right around, or better yet, directly in these pieces of structure will increase your catch rate. Often times jigs that bounce just a few yards too far from these hot spots are completely ignored by the bass.

So how do we go about locating these prime jigging spots in the first place?

One of the easiest ways to find areas worth jigging is to pay close attention to differences in the surface water of the canal. Fish holding pieces of structure will often create disturbances in the natural flow of the current. More than likely clues to the location of the fishy structure shows itself as a wake, ripple, whirlpool etc. on the surface of the canal.

Walking the banks of the canal, or better yet riding your bike along the service road, and keeping a close eye out for differences on the canal’s surface is a good way to at least get an idea of where to fish.

Standing waves are arguably the most tell-tale sign of an underwater hump or gulley. If you find an area with standing waves, the actual fish holding structure will be located slightly up current of the waves. This holds true regarding any sort of disturbance on the surface-the fishy structure will always be slightly up current.

It is now time to zone in on the exact location of the structure. This can be done by fan casting an area with a jig or bank sinker. Be sure to use a jig or sinker heavy enough to reach bottom in the swift current. I typically start with 4 ounces and go heavier or lighter depending on current conditions.

Cast up current and keep a close count on the number of seconds it takes the jig to reach bottom. Obviously the shallower the water, the quicker the jig will reach bottom-the deeper the water, the longer.

For example, one fantastic canal jigging spot that I frequent each May and June features a tall prominent peak followed by a deep, steep hole. It takes my jig 7 seconds to hit bottom on top of the peak. However when cast directly into the deep hole, it takes my jig 20 seconds to reach bottom. Due to the difference in the amount of time it takes my jig to reach bottom, I know that I am successfully presenting my offering smack dab in the middle of the strike zone.

Fan casting an area will be easiest during the last part of the west tide, slack tide, and the beginning of the east.

The Cape Cod Canal is littered with fantastic jigging spots. However it can take considerable time and effort to locate the best areas.

Yet if consistently pulling big bass from the canal’s bottom is important to you, then the time spent uncovering these prime jigging spots will be well worth the time and energy required to locate them.

Mortgage Contingencies in Real Estate Contracts

A contingency is a condition in a contract that must be satisfied before the contract is binding. A mortgage or financing contingency generally means that the buyer must secure the agreed to financing by the agreed to date or the contract is void. Most buyers finance their home purchases, even those who write cash offers.

Sometimes a deal without a mortgage contingency will be referred to as a “cash” deal even though the buyer is going to get a mortgage. That is because from the seller’s point of view, the buyer is obligated to go through with the deal even if she is not able to get a mortgage. (This is where a preapproval from a quality mortgage lender and earnest money are important.)

NOTE: A cash offer may look great on paper, but make sure the buyer actually has the money or the mortgage before you get to the closing table.

A mortgage or financing contingency gives the buyer a certain number of days within which to obtain a commitment from a mortgage company, for the stated amount, for the stated interest, and for the stated term of years.

For example, a mortgage for:

80% of the purchase price (expressed in a $ amount, such as $240,000, which is 80% of the $300,000 agreed to price. The buyer would be putting down $60,000 in this example.); with

An interest rate of 6.5%; for

An amortization period of 30 years.

You, as the seller, want the amount of the loan contingency to be as low as possible. (The lower the % amount of the contingency, the more the buyer has to put down.) The more the buyer has to put down, the greater the likelihood of her getting a mortgage. If you are the buyer, you want to put down the smallest amount of money. Therefore, you would want the % to be high. (Part of the current mortgage crisis is due to buyers putting down very little.)

You, as the seller, want the stated interest rate to be as high as possible. The higher the rate is in the contingency, the more likely it is the buyer will be able to get that loan.

If you are the seller, do not worry about the length of your buyer’s mortgage. The amortization term is more of a concern to the buyer than to you.

If the buyer cannot get a loan within the time stated or fails to meet any of the other requirements, the seller may, if included in your contract, have the right to try to get a loan for her.

If neither the seller nor the buyer can get a loan for the agreed-to amount and terms, then the seller must return the earnest money and the contract is null and void.

Benefits of Containers in Freight Shipping

A storage container is a must when you do all the shipping of the valuable goods to a distance. Those who are engaged in the field of merchandising know how important it is to protect the products while shipping the goods from one corner to another corner of the world. This is certainly a responsible task and shipping containers play a big part here. We all have seen the huge steel containers in the boat that are commonly used for shipping goods safely and securely and always thought they are unattainable. However, these days, they are very common in use and have become cheaper and affordable.

Safety and Security

When you own a freight shipping container, you have many benefits. One is certainly ensuring the security of the product that you plan to ship. As you know, the freight shipping is a tedious process and taking care of the valuable goods comes as a big concern for those engage in shipping products. In this case, purchasing freight containers is the only option which allows you safe shipping of your products. Things would go systematic and organized with the help of these containers. Moreover, these shipping containers are made of such material that allows good quality water and weather proof facility. You may just relax by storing your valuable goods in these containers and can relax, they will do the job impeccably.

Space Adjustment

Space management is always a concern when it comes to merchandising. Freight shipping containers allow you to arrange your goods systematically. You save a lot of space and thereby permit more items to come in. This is one of the main reason the shipping agents prefer freight containers to load their goods and ship it to far off places. Every shipper wishes for maximum inclusion of merchandise in their vessel.

Saves Loading Time

The usage of freight shipping containers literally permits you to save the loading time. Here, everything is packed in an organized way and there is no worry of arranging it again. There is always a time frame and within that permissible time period, you have to complete your loading. Here, you are prone to develop panic; however, if you are a proud owner of a freight container, you can relax and focus more on other aspects of shipping your goods.

Container Variety

Well, you don’t need to ship the organic products in the same container of shoes. Each item has defined containers and they are engineered based on the product nature. You have to tell the container retailers about your product and they get you the right kind of container that is going to be the perfect one for your goods. This is of course a great journey from manufacturing units to distributor’s warehouses. And, for obvious reasons the warehouse managers encourage only quality products. Therefore going for freight containers will help the merchandiser to get rid of all concerns and help in reaching the products safely and securely by retaining the fresh appearance.

Stop Your Air Conditioner Leaking Water

The three most common reasons for water leakage from heat pumps are dirty filters or heat exchanging coils, blocked drains, and a shortage of refrigerant. They are pretty simple to diagnose and repair.

Remember: Turn off the power source to your air conditioner before trying any of the following!

1. Dirty Filters and or Blocked Heat Exchanger

When the filters, or heat exchanging coil, are dirty or blocked, this causes a restriction in air flow. This in turn can then cause the temperature of the coil to drop. If the coil temperature drops below zero, moisture in the air that is condensating on the coil can freeze and form little ice flakes which are then blown out of your air conditioner, causing water leakage.

Check the filters, and if they look dirty, give them a good clean with the hosepipe or shower head. Remove all the dirt and give them a spray with a kitchen or bathroom antiseptic spray to kill any bacteria or mould on them.

Check the aluminum coil behind the filters. If it is covered in dry lint, try vacuuming the coil carefully with the brush attachment on your vacuum cleaner. If it is particularly dirty, you will need to use a garden spray bottle and a strong grease removing kitchen cleaner. Spray it on the coil, allow to work for around 5 minutes then rinse the coil off with the spray bottle. This should remove the dirt and improve the air flow. Please be careful not to spray water near to the electrical panel on the air conditioner.

ALWAYS read the manufacturers’ manuals on how to clean your heat pump or air conditioner correctly!

2. Blocked Drains

On a wall mounted ductless air conditioner, a blocked drain can be pretty obvious and easy to diagnose. Water will usually drip down the wall from the back of the unit and may also leak through the air outlet at the front if the drain is blocked.

Stand on a small ladder and look down from the top of the air conditioner. Towards the bottom of the heat exchanger is a little plastic tray which is designed to catch the condensate produced by the cooling mode of the air conditioner. Check that this tray is not full of water or overflowing.

If your outdoor unit is directly behind the wall the indoor unit is mounted on, your drain pipe will likely follow the pipework through the wall and drip into the garden. If this is the case, find the end of the drain pipe outside, wipe the end clean with a cloth then blow as hard as you can into it. This should clear any blockages.

If you cannot clear the blockage yourself, or if it is buried inside the wall, you will need to phone a professional HVAC service company and book a service call.

3. Your Air Conditioner Has A Leak and Has Lost Refrigerant

If your air filters and heat exchanger are clean and you have lots of air flow, your air conditioner should deliver plenty of cool air. If it is struggling to cool the room for a few hours and then starts leaking water from the air vent it may be short on refrigerant.

Set your heat pump to the lowest setting possible and leave it to run for a little while. Then check the heat exchanging coil underneath the filters. If it is covered in ice, your air conditioner has a leak and requires a professional to service it. If your air conditioner is leaking refrigerant, the leak will need to be found and fixed before it can have additional refrigerant added to it.

If in doubt, or these tips don’t work, contact your local air conditioning company for a service.

What is the Difference Between Horizontal and Vertical Air Compressors?

Realistically, there is no meaningful difference between horizontal and vertical air compressors except for the way that the hardware is arranged. The basic idea is that a it will help save floor space since the length of its tanks runs up and down as opposed to across. Typically the motor will sit at the base of the unit with the tank running up above it. As a consequence, when left sitting in a given location, it takes up less horizontal space, though of course it takes up more vertical space.

The primary advantage of vertical air compressors is to small businesses and offices that need compressed air but have limited floors pace and would prefer them be stored out of sight. A good example might be a dentist’s office (as they use a lot of pneumatic tools in dental care) or a small rented workshop. Most vertical compressors can be wheeled about in a fashion similar to moving a hand truck and can therefore easily be positioned in a disused closet or corner. This portability also makes these more popular if the compressor needs to be moved about frequently.

Otherwise beyond the question of horizontal space saved, there is no other meaningful difference between a horizontal and vertical air compressor. Air compressors of all kinds can be found in both vertical and horizontal styles and the direction of the tank has no bearing whatsoever on the general performance of the compressor. Therefore, if space is not a significant issue, then there is no need to focus specifically on the direction that the air compressor’s tank lays. In fact, if you intend to hide the compressor under a work table or cabinet, then buying a vertical compressor would in fact be a mistake.

Obviously this is only a relevant concern for air compressors that are large enough to justify the concern, specifically those with larger tanks. When dealing with compressors with very small tanks (two gallon, six gallon, eight gallon, etc.) it does not really make any difference which way the tanks are turned with respect to horizontal floor space. This only becomes a real issue when dealing with tanks of about twelve gallons or higher. Since tanks play an important role in maintaining an even flow of air and the like which is required for sensitive work (like dentistry), having a larger tank is typically and important thing.

Since so many of the applications where floor space is an active concern also coincide with locations where volume is an issue, many of the companies that specialize in the production of quiet air compressors offer their products in a vertical formation. For example, busy offices or shared workspaces are places where both floor space and noise are joint concerns. Since air compression has never really been a silent technology until recently, there are many small producers that have opted to specialize in producing silent compressors. These specialized air compressors are also frequently vertical, simply because this compliments many of the more common applications.

4 Pillars of Health and Wellness

Today’s health care system, unfortunately appears to be developing a generation of people who continue to stay sick and dependent on dangerous prescription drugs as plasters to the many symptoms of their sickness and diseases. Several studies have shown that these plasters are only known to weaken the immune system, the bio-energetic field and the critical pH balance of the human body.

Being Healthy will forever determine the longevity and quality of the life you live. But unfortunately most people today are either confused, or are purposely mislead into a variety of unhealthy habits and diet and may even be deceived about the natural healing powers of their amazing healing body, and what must be done to protect their 4 pillars of health.

1st Pillar of Health:

The 1st pillar of health which is tremendously critical to our healthy and wellness, is our external bio-energetic field, or our aura. This energy field is quite similar to the bio-energy field which surrounds the earth as a natural defence against external forces or invaders.

As the computer age continues to quickly move forward with the bombardment of electronic computers, gadgets, cell phones, iphones, and several variations of electronic toys, studies have indicated that our aura of magnetic external protection continues to weaken thus allowing foreign elements to constantly attack and penetrate our body. In order to continue being healthy always, we must find ways to strengthen and protect this natural external defence to maintain our 4 pillars of health.

2nd Pillar of Health:

The 2nd pillar of health is our natural internal defence known as our immune system. The immune system was created to naturally protect the body from all diseases, and foreign invaders which enters our body, and which can seriously affect our health and wellness in our quest to being healthy always.

The great irony with respect to our immune system and the sick care system which pretends to function as our health care system, is that the accepted methods of sick care treatment which is being touted, actually does more harm to our natural immune system, than actually doing any good.

Our immune system is made up of a number of stages and protective defensive agents. Some of these agents range from T-cells, to B-cells, to Killer cells, to TH1 cells, to TH2 cells, to Cytotoxic T cells, and to Suppressor T cells, just to name a few. All of which were naturally created to ensure that the human body remains in a state of health and wellness by enhancing our 4 pillars of health.

3rd Pillar of Health:

The 3rd pillar of health and wellness is our body pH balance. Being health simply means that your body pH balance is at an alkaline level of 7.356 of higher, as opposed to being at a pH balance level below 7 where all sick or diseased bodies are known to reside. The lower the body’s pH balance level, the more acidic it is, and the greater the chances of that body being diseased.

The natural state of our body’s pH balance is that of alkaline in the range of 7.356. From birth our pH balance range is that of alkaline. But as we move forward into a polluted environment, including the processed and overcooked foods we constantly consume on a daily basis, together with the highly acidic beverages we consume, our body’s pH balance gradually regresses into a state of acidity and eventual sickness.

4th Pillar of Health:

The 4th pillar of Health towards being health, is our lifestyle. We need to have a system of regular exercise, daily preferably, but not necessarily vigorous. We need to reduced our intake of pollution from stress, toxins, carcinogens, and any other drugs or chemicals which may compromise our immune system.

The above 4 pillars of health have always proven to be vital in maintaining the perfect health and wellness of the body. We must find natural and positive ways of protecting our body from the out side to the inside.

Our amazing bio-energetic field or aura is constantly being bombarded as we sit in front of the many computers we constantly use. We cannot help but consume the right foods to not only prevent the imbalance of our body’s pH balance, but we must also understand the dire need to protect our immune system by limiting or eliminating the use of carcinogens, of all forms, in our quest to being healthy, by protecting our 4 pillars of health.

Double Column Cover Letters

For each position that we apply for, there should be an effective corresponding cover letter to enhance your resume and highlight the reasons why you are a good match. Using a double column cover letter can double your chances of being found in a database search just by the sheer volume of keyword or buzz words included. The cover letter is your story, sure, but it can be used to literally ‘fling’ your resume above others in database search engines.

Right now, Recruiters and Hiring Managers are searching through electronic databases such as CareerBuilder and Monster to find a good match for their job description. Using your cover letter to help you ‘jump hurdles’ over other applicants is vital if you don’t personally know anyone in the office who will get you an interview for the job.

The double column format is extremely effective when you possess all the qualifications for a job, but it is also equally effective when you lack one or more of the qualifications provided in the job description. The format clearly shows that you are qualified in many areas and the employer may be willing to overlook the areas in which your exact qualifications are deficient.

The opening and closing of the letter provide great value to the hiring manager or recruiter when trying to find a good match. Include that you have reviewed the position and can see for yourself that you possess the qualifications for the job posted.

Remember: Time is of the essence. You are job hunting. Once you find a suitable position, go after it until you get that interview and get the job.

The Health Benefits of Anti-Fatigue Mats

Anti-fatigue mats are very beneficial to the health of people who have to stand in one place for an extended period of time. The reason these mats have so many benefits is pure physics — anti-fatigue mats counteract the massive forces exerted on the body’s pressure points, joints, limbs and muscles caused by gravity and the repetitive pounding by walking. Here are some of the problems presented by extended standing and walking and the solutions that anti-fatigue mats provide.

Standing for long periods of time, especially on hard surfaces, causes many physical problems. This includes weariness and pain. A well made anti-fatigue mat will cause the body’s muscles to slowly contract and expand as they conform to the anti-fatigue mat’s flexibility. This muscle movement increases the flow of blood and the amount of oxygen that is reaching the heart. Blood flow is facilitated, taking less energy away from the individual. In turn, this reduces fatigue for the entire body.

Standing on hard flooring for a long time is very fatiguing. It elicits major physical exhaustion because your body’s heart and muscles must work extra hard against gravity to maintain blood flow. Muscles in the legs begin to become stationary and constricted as they work harder to keep the body upright. The heart works harder at getting blood to these constricted areas. Blood flow is reduced while at the same time blood and fluids begin to accumulate in the lower extremities, causing varicose veins. The issues associated with standing for a long time have been researched extensively. The damage that standing for long periods of time causes to our body is severe and can lead to health complications as serious as stroke, cancer and heart failure.

Anti-fatigue mats increase comfort and reduce overall pain by absorbing the colossal amount of force exerted on a body from standing or walking. Anyone who is not in pain will definitely be more productive! Standing or walking on concrete is particularly damaging because concrete is rigid, providing no shock absorbency. Simply walking on a hard floor is like striking the heel with a hammer every time you take a step. These mats are like giant shock absorbers, which provide a cushiony surface to walk on. This reduces that “hammering” effect on the feet. The cushiony effect reduces pressure on specific points in the joints, connective tissue and muscles. The shock absorption that an anti-fatigue mat provides protects the body from the ravages of gravity and exertion.

Anti-fatigue mats can counteract the complications of long-term standing in so many other ways. They reduce problems like spinal compression. They reduce fatigue by providing better circulation and less pain in not only the feet, but also the legs, spine, back and neck. Other benefits of these mats include less doctor’s visits, less time off from work, fewer accidents due to slipping or fatigue and less worker’s compensation claims. The benefits are both short-and-long term. The gains are far-reaching. A little investment in anti-fatigue mats can bring great returns!

How To Install Carpet On Stairs

There are basically two methods of installing carpet on stairs. One is the waterfall method where one piece of carpet covers each riser and tread. The other is the cap and band installation. In this case the cap is a piece of carpet installed over the treads and the band is the piece that will cover the risers. In this article I will show you how to install carpet using the waterfall method. These instructions are for basic stairs and not for spiral stairs which would require additional procedures.

Tools Needed:

Tack strips

Staples or upholstery nails

Measuring Tape

Knee Pads

Knee kicker (check your rental store)

Stair Tool (check your rental store)

Utility knife

Safety glasses

Obviously you’ll need to remove all the old carpet. Get rid of the tack strips and don’t try to use the old padding. Make sure any nails and staples are removed and sweep down the area to be carpeted.

Before you get started you’re going to have to figure out how much carpet you’ll need. To calculate the width simply measure across the tread. If your stairs are open on one or both ends make sure to measure under the nosing to where it meets the riser and add it to the total width. Figure the total length of your flight of stairs by measuring the tread and riser. Assuming your going to use carpet pad make sure to add at least 3 inches per stair. If your steps have nosing add one foot to the total flight measurement.

Okay, let’s get started. Apply the tack strip to the stair crotch location. Next you’ll need to tighten the carpet by tucking in the crotch. You can do this by using a knee kicker. It is a tool used to install carpet in small areas and stairs. It consists of a piece of metal tubing with a pin plate attached to it. On the other end it has a padded cushion where you can position your knee to apply pressure to the carpet. You should be able to find one at your local rental store. Simply place the padded end several inches above your knee and add pressure.

This is where you will use the knee kicker:

To attach to the tack strip you need to use the knee kicker to stretch the carpet straight from the center of the tread and hook it to the tack strip located at the crotch. Once the carpet has been hooked to the tack strip you need to firmly attach it by sliding your carpet tool back and forth to compress the pins. Using your utility knife or carpet knife trim as needed. A carpet knife is better as it has two sides and is sharper than a utility knife. Repeat this process on each side of the tread. Before going to the next tread make sure the carpet is smoothed out on the riser and then staple to the stair lip. I would recommend you staple about every 2 inches. Don’t forget to also staple along the edge of the riser.

Make sure to step back and take a look at your work before going on to the next tread. Is the carpet smooth? Did you kick it in evenly? It is also a good time to give your knees and back a rest. If everything looks good the continue onto the next tread. If not you’ll have to pull the carpet off and install it again. Repeat this process until you are finished.

Once finished stand back and admire your work and give yourself a pat on the back. You now have a beautiful looking staircase.

Moth Prevention And Treatment For Persian Rugs

Moths and their larvae coupled with dampness is the biggest enemy of wool rugs and carpets. Contrary to common belief the moth itself does not feed from wool fabrics, however, female moths do lay their eggs which hatch into harmful larvae that can cannibalize your rug. This larvae feeds off the wool over an extended period before turning into a cocoon and subsequently into an adult moth.

As with most things the best treatment is prevention rather than a cure. Rugs and carpets left in dark or damp places are most at risk, moths seek out dark undisturbed areas to lay their eggs, meaning rugs in storage or areas under furniture are prime nesting spots. It is advised to vacuum your rug regularly and ensure to vacuum the reverse and area under your rug from time to time. Rugs hung on walls should be handled regularly, the human scent can help deter moths using the rug as a nesting site. If you spot larvae or cocoons then it means there is a moth problem. If caught early this is not a huge deal but the problem can quite easily spread and become a major infestation; moth infestations can spread from carpet to rug to clothes and quickly spread around the home.

Rugs with moth infestations should be thoroughly checked: vacuum front and back and spray with wool safe specialist moth spray. As with any chemical, even those which are natural, always pre-test on a small inconspicuous area. Moth balls are not recommended as they are unlikely to work and can be harmful to humans, pets, the environment and the rug. The best option, and safest for the rug if carried our correctly, is to have the rug professionally frozen. This involves packaging, preferably in as close to a vacuum seal as possible, and freezing it for a number of weeks in order to kill any infestation, the rug is then defrosted over the course of a few days before being unpacked. This option not only kills any moths, larvae and eggs in the rug but avoids chemicals coming in to contact with often fragile fabrics.

Of course once you remove the infestation from the rug there may still be a problem with airborne adult moths in the vicinity. Moth traps using pheromones can be useful to attract the male cloths moths, giving off the scent of a female moth in order to lure the male moth into the trap. In the worst case scenario rugs can be destroyed by the moth larvae, if caught early the damage will not be noticeable however the likelihood is that the damage will be somewhere in between. Damage can be repaired but can be costly so it is always best to be vigilant and check for signs of moths from time to time.

Problems With Olefin Carpet

If you are looking for a new carpet for your home then you have probably run across Olefin carpeting also known as Polypropylene carpet. It is a very popular material for carpet mainly because of the low price. If you are considering this as your next carpet you should read this short article which might just change your mind.

Olefin carpet is a great carpet if you are on a budget or need a carpet that doesn’t have to last a long time but it has a number of disadvantages which should rule it out for many people. For starters, Olefin has an affinity to grease and oil. What this means is that it will attract oil and grease like a magnet and it is very difficult to remove this type of soil from it. This results in traffic lanes that will turn dark rather quickly. Another disadvantage of Olefin carpet is that it is a very soft fiber.

This means that it will crush easily and is not as resistant to wear as other materials. Olefin carpets after a few years are often very matted and the traffic lanes flatten out and become quite apparent. If you have a lot of traffic in your home or even average traffic this can be a great disadvantage for you. The last disadvantage of Olefin that I will talk about is its low melting point. Olefin can melt very easily. Even the friction caused by sliding a piece of furniture across the carpet can burn it leaving a permanent mark. If you buy Olefin use caution when moving furniture and always pick up furniture instead of sliding it.

These are three of the biggest disadvantages to Olefin carpet. There are more subtle ones and there are of course some advantages to Olefin as well, mainly the cost. So put some thought into your purchase before you decide and hopefully you will find the one that is right for you. Good luck with whatever you decide.
