Car Tips on How to Replace Spark Plugs

Changing spark plugs is a large part of a regular tune up, but did you know that you can perform this easy maintenance job yourself? A spark plug is basically a high voltage bridge that electric passes through. They are very cheap to buy and easy to install. It does not hurt to replace them each year; doing so can increase the efficiency of your engine and even help out with gas mileage a bit. This procedure is not difficult as long as you follow the directions. The tools you will need include a ratchet wrench, a 12 inch socket extension, and a plug socket for your vehicle.

Your plugs may be easily located if you follow the thick, black cables As a rule of thumb, 4 cylinder engines have their plugs at the top of the engine in a row, 8 cylinder engines have their spark plugs 4 on each side, and 6 cylinder engines can have them either way. S plugs are placed in a specific order, so it does matter in which order you place them and take them out. Starting at the end of the row, grab the spark plug as close to the engine as you can, and pull it out. If you grab them too far up you could damage the cord and have to replace it.

If you have not already done so, place the spark plug socket and extension on your ratchet. Inside of the plug socket, you should see black rubber or foam on the other end. This is useful because it holds the plug into place as you take it out of the engine. Set your ratchet to loosen, and place it over the end of the plug. You can now easily remove the plug. After you have removed each plug, it is a good idea to examine it. There should be a little grime and dirt on the end, but if you have too much it could be a sign of trouble.

When you buy plugs for your cars nowdays, they will usually come already gapped. This makes things a whole lot easier. In order to place the new sp plug in the hole, place the plug wire end of the plug into the socket. Now hold the extension and place it in as far as it will go. Be careful while doing so though, as you do not want to damage the plug. You can now screw in the new plug using just your hands. You will only be able to do this to a point though, and then you will have to use the wrench. Once it is in, you may put the wire back on.

Now once the first one is done, you just have to repeat the process with each of the remaining plugs. Do not worry; it gets easier each time you do it. If you dropped out all of the spark plugs at once, you will have a difficult time knowing which cable goes where and things will not go well if you place the wrong cables on the plugs.

Each day, each moment, you hold much more power in your hands than you probably realize.

For example, every morning you make a choice about how you'll greet your new day.

Choosing to open up to the new is an enriching decision that you have the power to make in every single moment of your life. How often do you actually give yourself that gift, though?

I Do not Have Enough Time
It's no small thing, this decision to open. And it's not always an easy thing, either.

Your time is limited. There simply is not room for everything in the hours we have. But every time you make the choice to open to the new, you give yourself the gift of a new beginning.

Here's the thing, though: the reality is that opening to something new requires you to let go of something else. That's part of the rhythm of living. So, when you make conscious choices about what you open to and what you let go of, you are shaping your time in a whole new way.

Opening to the New – Set the Stage for Success
What if you chose to set the tone for your day with your first hour? You consciously create this gift for yourself by making space for the new day as you let go of the night. You step forward powerfully and planfully. But how do you make that happen?

Well, for starters there are lots of concrete things you can do to set your day. For example, the night before you might:

  • Make your lunch,
  • Set the table for breakfast,
  • Lay out clothes for the day, and
  • Have a planned ritual for waking up.

Routines and Rituals
There are two categories of activities that help you set the stage – routines and rituals.

Routines involve activities that are almost automatic. These are helpful when you may not be fully awake. They help you save time and create space.

Rituals require mindful attention. Here's where you truly open to the new and deepen your experience of your moments. Meditating and writing are excellent tools for invoking the power of ritual and bringing it to your morning moments.

Opening Your Heart to Your Day
The popular TV show from several years ago, "Friday Night Lights," had a motto that I borrow here. As the team in the show prepared for a game, they'd say, in unison, "Clear Eyes Full Hearts Can not Lose."

Your time success is founded on your time choices, and your time choices are enhanced immeasurably by your vision and the fullness of your heart. Creating a day that starts from a grounded and expansive place is one of the best gifts going.

So I invite you to give this a try today. Open your day the heart-based way, and here's to becoming your own time expert, starting now.

LED Lighting – The Future of Energy-Efficient Lighting

LED Lighting is one of the most popular forms of residential and commercial lighting in the market today. It has many advantages associated with it, which contributes to its growing popularity. Compared to the conventional incandescent lighting, LED lighting is far brighter, and the LED bulbs used have a longer life. LED lighting is also environment-friendly form of lighting as it emits less amount of carbon-dioxide than traditional bulb lighting.

LED lighting is being increasingly preferred for a variety of purposes, including home lighting, office lighting, vehicle lighting, landscape lighting, and public safety lighting. The LED technology is being increasely used in flashlights, lanterns, head lamps, and book lights. These small LED lights have become an integral part of our lifestyle that we have begun to use them without being of it. For example, indicators on appliances such as coffee makers that convey to the users that the appliance is ready to be used are LED lights. Small lights on cell phones indicating active power are LED lights.

LED is an abbreviation for Light Emitting Diode, which is a semiconductor that converts electricity into light. LED lights do not require a filament as conventional bulbs do to generate light. LED lights have diodes as their sources of power. Each diode has a diameter of about 1 / 4th inch and consumes about ten milliamps of current to give out light at about 1 / 10th of a watt.

These diodes are well-protected by plastic bulbs that contain them. LED lights operate on power generated by the motion of electrons, and emit white light. Despite their smallness in size, LED lights work wonders when used in combination, for high-intensity applications.

LED lights are available in various efficiencies. LED lights for residential purposes are about 20 lumens / watt. However; with latest advances, LED lights with capacities as much as 160 lumens / watt are also being developed. It is not harsh; they emit soft lights. The less intensity of brightness is due to the usage of sodium lamps of low pressure.

Capabilities of LED lighting are many. One is the unidirectional illumination LED lighting enables. This property of LEDs makes them very useful for various applications where light needs to be focused in a single direction. They are more durable than conventional light bulbs as they are resistant to impact by thermal influences and vibrations.

There are no UV rays or Infrared rays resulting from LED lighting. This makes them ideal for outdoor lighting as UV rays attract bugs. There is no mercury in LEDs; so, it does not get hot on usage. LED lighting does not disrupt radio or TV signals as there is no ballast in an LED. But it should be noted that they are heat-sensitive; exposure to surplus heat can damage not only the quality of light emitted but also the lifetime of the light.

Owing to its numerous advantages, the application of LED lighting has increased dramatically. It can be used for focused lighting in dark interior areas such as cupboards, areas under kitchen cabinets, garage interiors, and overhead lighting. It is extensively used for lighting walkways, art lighting, landscape lighting, lighting reading areas, and night lighting.

Types of Outdoor Lighting for Your Home

There are many different types of outdoor lighting, each one suited to a particular purpose and made to a different aesthetic. The first one of these is the landscape light, which is possibly the most versatile lighting option. This can be a very positive thing, as it can be placed in various different places around the exterior of the property and fit well in many environments.

An example of landscape lighting would be a floor lamp in a contemporary design that fulfills the duel purpose of being a standard decorative piece and also a light. These can be placed in a variety of locations, including in your garden, on decking, next to entrance ways and exits and next to steps or staircases.

These types of lighting are very useful at illuminating areas that you require to be well lit as well as adding a unique aesthetic of their own. They can often also be placed in areas to provide accent lighting rather than task or ambient lighting; placing a stunning lights sculpture on your deck or patio can give a warm glow and add interest to the space.

For those who are looking for more discreet functional lighting, consider investing in wall lamps to be placed at certain strategic points around your space. These are typically used at entrancesways and on staircases to ensure that there is adequate light for people to see by, avoiding accidents and making moving around at night a lot easier.

These can be as bold or discreet as you like, which is one great advantage of outdoor wall lighting. Designs often range from the most classic and traditional to some striking modern pieces that can set the tone for the entire outdoor space.

As wall lighting tend to get a lot of use – particularly at darker times of the year – it is advisable to consider choosing LED outdoor wall lighting, as this boasts many benefits such as a higher quality of light to see by, as well as the fact that it consumes a far less amount of electricity on a regular basis.

Due to the growing popularity of this technology, LED outdoor wall lighting is very easy to find from a variety of lighting specialists, meaning that you are bound to find something that is economical and practical as well as stylish enough for your tastes.

An even more form of outdoor lighting is decking lighting, which often consist of simple spotlights placed in and around the decking area to provide illumination without being intrusive, style-wise. These lights can be the perfect option for the minimalist home exterior.

These are also often available as LED outdoor lighting options, making for another economic and practical solution for the home. Due to their small size and often simple design, they often do not carry a very heavy price tag either, therefore representing excellent value for money.

Lastly, one option that many individuals overlook is that of hanging lamps for the exterior of a property. These work very well in covered outdoor spaces, making the perfect outdoor living space for those that want to relax or socialize outside long after the sun has set.

Again, these can be as extravagant or a tile as you want, and there are many designs available in traditional and contemporary styles that can make for a rustic or a modern outdoor space. To find the idea solution for you, consult with a lighting specialist to create an outdoor lighting plan that is both beautiful and functional enough for your exterior space.

Five Barriers to Compassionate Communication During Conflict

Communicating graciously and compassionately in difficult situations can be challenging. We are human and our natural tendency is to protect ourselves, or as the old adage goes, "fight or flight." Our "thinking" side of the brain is also engaged to evaluate and judge the emotion we are experiencing and determine a course of action that is not always with the intent of relieving suffering. As we move to a more compassionate self, we must be aware of what we are thinking and feeling, and if subsequent action will support happiness and harmony with the individual. To respond compassionately is a choice. What is happening in the mental process that may be limiting our ability to choose compassion?

1) Diagnosing or labeling – one of our primary defense mechanisms in conflict situations is identifying the symptoms of conflict through negatively labeling the other person's actions. We may hear ourselves say "He / she's crazy!" "That nut – he's so mean! He cut me off in traffic!" Rarely do people say "Hmm, this is a human with a different opinion and I'd like to take the time to discover, collect and come to a mutual solution" or "I do not really know why he's driving fast, but I wish the person safety. " On the flip side, what do we tell ourselves when we cut someone off in traffic? Perhaps we justify our actions, ie "I'm late for work" or "my kids are waiting in the rain for me!" Or do we internally apologize for our actions to the other drivers?

2) Placing value or conditions for receiving compassion – We are human and sometimes we need to actually see the suffering to validate extending ourselves through thoughts and actions to deliver compassion. It is possible that if we do not see suffering through verbal or non-verbal expressions of pain and suffering, we may stifle empathy and then compassion. We may jump to the conclusion the person has no suffering, no pain and then spiral down into a conflict chasm the person is that not human and not worthy of our compassion.

3) Lack of empathy – It is possible to forget the human condition we all participate in on a daily basis. It's possible that each of us is "wired" differently in experiencing empathy. Our initial fight or flight response can put our first reaction as fear instead of placing or imagining ourselves in the other person's shoes or perspective to gain a broader perspective of the situation. It's hard to see the picture when you are in the landscape. Take yourself out of the landscape and be the photographer or painter for a moment.

4) Motive for compassion – Individuals have varying experiences with empathy and compassion and then possibly have varying motives for happiness. Are you compassionate because everyone else is, there is the possibility of an intrinsic or extrinsic gain, or, among other motives, is it the "right thing to do?"

5) Needs not being met – the fight or flight response can relate to some element of our individual needs not being met. As described by Maslow, these could be physical needs, psychosocial needs, safety needs, self-actualization or sometimes even the need for peak experiences, those moments of complete love, joy, happiness and understanding.

Developing self-awareness by understanding potential barriers to applying compassion to conflict situations is the first step in building your computing toolkit and skills for interpersonal communication.

Wallpaper Replacements

What happens if — having already boosted your wall's look with wallpaper and wall borders that have matching stylish designs — you need to make some repairs in several sections of your wall? A similar dilemma also arises if you have run out of wallpaper rolls to cover some remaining parts of a wall. Common sense dictates that you will try to get in touch with your wallpaper store and inquire if they have wallpaper that exactly matches yours.

When ordering matching rolls of wallpaper from the same wallpaper store where you bought your first rolls, make sure that you have the book name, batch number and style number of the paper you bought. This way, you are assured that you are getting the same product to complete your wall project. Keeping information regarding the technical details of your wallpaper is very important in cases like this. Better yet, ask for samples to make sure that you are receiving the right stuff.

However, what if the home improvement store says that their stocks of the wallpaper and / or wall barriers you want have run out? The logical thing to do is try other home improvement shops and see if they carry the same brand or pattern of wallpaper. It's always best to go to these stores with a piece of the wallpaper so that you can match it with their products (you can also bring a close-up picture if you can not bring an actual sample with you).

Sometimes though, you will run into a dead end if the manufacturer of the wallpaper or wall border you are looking for has discontinued production of the product. In this situation, the next best thing you can do is go back to the wallpaper store who sold you the pattern; they may still have some rolls in stock. But if the paper is more than a year old, the chances of finding the same pattern is minimal. Should your search end in vain, just move on; place a new order for new rolls of wallpaper and make sure you order an extra roll or two.

If you are on a tight budget and you need just a few rolls to redo or repair your existing wallpaper, you can always go with discount wallpaper. It might be hard looking for discount wallpaper that matches what you already have but some stores do have thousands of wallpapers in their stocks, including those that marked for discount. You will more than likely find discount wallpaper that is still in good shape. Using discount wallpaper to cover your walls if your replacement swatches are not available is a good economic move. However, do order some samples of discount wallpaper and see if they fit with your room before you place an order.

Securing Your Most Valued Possessions With Fireproof Boxes

You'll never really know when things will just suddenly blow up or accidentally catch fire. And when that occurs, the last thing you'd want to happen is to see your most valuable possessions ignite in crimson embers while you helplessly watch them char into soft, gray ash. Just to be on the safe side, you may want to use fireproof boxes to secure your belongings, especially important legal or office documents that you can not afford to lost.

These special kinds of boxes protect your valuable objects from the damage that may be caused by natural disasters specifically by fire. When fire outbreaks happen, you might find yourself scurrying in panic to save important, combustible things that you just can not afford to get damaged and lose. Sadly though due to the very same panic, sometimes the most important things are the ones that you forget to save and they end up burning to crisp. To ensure that these important items survive any future fire incident and general panics, it is wise to place them inside fireproof boxes, just to be on the safe side.

Compared to normal containers, these protective packs offer an elevated level of safety to your valuable objects. The materials used to create these boxes are, as the name implies, fireproof. Science and technology have made them able to withstand strong amounts of heat and pressure and prevent these external forces from getting through and harming the objects inside. These specialized containers come in different designs and the kinds of special seals and locks that they have vary from one design to another. If you are worried that someone who recovers the box from the fire might be able to take what's inside, the fireproof boxes either require keys or a special lock combination or code to open them.

These small safes are not just for fire protection, though. They can also be used for general storage and secure reposition of objects, jewelry or documents that you simply do not want others to have access to, either for privacy, security or personal reasons. This is especially true for documents that contain sensitive information that are not for all eyes to see, or for very expensive items that you'd want to protect from the hands of burglars and thieves. One laptop box variety of these fireproof containers for instance has a four foot long securing cable that can be wrapped around a metal anchoring point inside the car. This prevails the box and everything in it from being forcefully taken away from you or from its lock-in position.

The quality of fireproof boxes varies in temperature and heat tolerance as well as the length of time in which they can hold off fire from damaging the objects inside. The locking mechanisms also differ from one design to another; some use keys whereas others can only be opened using special number combinations. However, no matter what differences each kind may have, these kinds of boxes are an important investment to ensure that your most prized possession will never risk being at the mercy of fire.

Hardiplank Siding – Ritz Without Rot!

Manufactured for nearly 100 years, Hardiplank, or fiber cement siding was made popular by James Hardie in Australia.

Hardieboard Siding is formulated with the primary ingredients of cement, sand, cellulose and water.Surface styles can vary from smooth, to rough; imitation stucco to a wide variety of decorative finishes. They can be purchased unprimed or factory primed. They can also be bought with a baked on color – pre-painted at the factory. Hardie plank siding (as it is sometimes spelled) typically has a 50 year warranty.

Why not just go with wood rather than an "imitation wood"? Following are several reasons you may want to consider hardiplank:

~ Hardiplank siding is noncombustible

~ It is termite resistant.

~ It is rot-resistant

~ It's more crack-resistant than wood

~ Hardie board resists fungus

~ Hardiplank siding resists normal deterioration

~ It requires very little maintenance after initial painting

~ It's less expensive than wood

Although vinyl siding has some advantages over wood, hardiplank beats out vinyl for the benefits. Among the advantages in comparison:

Vinyl is flammable and may melt in high heat

  • Vinyl is a petroleum based product
  • Vinyl may fade over time
  • Vinyl is easily damaged and may crack if hit
  • Vinyl is difficult to match if replacement is needed
  • Hardiplank is more expensive than the lowest grade of vinyl, but its value and benefits may more than pay for itself in short period of time.

Like any manufactured product, care must be taken to follow manufacturer instructions carefully.

Some areas of caution:

* Siding is heavy and fragile prior to installation

* It must be nailed correctly into place for proper wind resistance

  • Siding must be painted when dry
  • Painting and caulking should be complete and well sealing
  • House wrap should be installed behind the board for moisture resistance
  • Proper precautions must be taken when cutting the board (so as not to inhale silica dust)

Professional installation is recommended, and will certainly have the finished product inspected.

The COST of Hardiplank is more than vinyl, but generally is less expensive than wood or brick covers.

Also, in some subdivisions where vinyl is not allowed, Hardiboard may be approved. Check with your local governing body to see if Hardiplank is permitted. It is considered to be a "classy" cladding, so it may well be a less expensive way for you to cover your new green home! Keep in mind also, since since this siding has a longer fire rating, your insurance premiums may drop if you opt for fiber cement siding.

How To Carry Out A Background Check On Potential Employees

Indeed, in some industries it is a requirement that employers run checks to make sure potential employees do not have any criminal convictions. After all you want to get the best people you can fill your position. Obvious types of jobs such as Police, Social workers, Teachers and Care workers are good examples of careers where full background checks would be essential.

Equally important are claims of experience on CVs and unexplained gaps in employment history. Social media is a great way to make preliminary investigations into employment history and gaps in activity, most people these days have a significant online profile. You can use this in order to confirm what applicants have put on their CV. Companies should be aware, however, that there are risks to this. If people are unemployed they usually say they are looking for work on their activity profiles. When it comes to professional networking sites such as LinkedIn you can usually see their work history, where as social networks such as Facebook or Twitter usually carry information about their social activity. It is not illegal to look at someones Facebook page for the purposes of completing a review of a potential employee. Remember they may have access restricted so you may not be able to see their activity.

You would need to be sure that you are looking at the correct person, you could potentially get two people of the same name, especially if their name is common such as Smith or Johnson. this is where a picture of an applicable is ideal for helping to get the correct information.

Employers used to be able to pay for a CRB (criminal records bureau) check but this has been replaced in 2012 with a DBS (Disclosure Barring Service). This has three levels of check, basic, standard or enhanced. The basic check is the one most commonly used and is only a snapshot on that day and does not contain overseas convictions for example.

Another thing that employers need to be careful of is that some convictions can fall under a categorization of 'spent'. This is where certain types of conviction carry a time lapse element, so for example after 3 years they are considered to be off someone record. In this case if you do a search on someone's name and they were in the news four years ago for a drugs offense which is now lapsed. You are not allowed to use that information as part of your profiling.

Epoxy and Polyurea Flooring Care

A newly installed epoxy flooring system, or a freshly installed polyurea system, requires a fair degree of care. Both systems are superbly durable, but a small degree of care will ensure that such systems last for decades.

Clean Up Spills Promptly

This is the cardinal rule of floor coating care.

When engineers and technicians test flooring systems, such as epoxy flooring systems, they use a 24-hour immersion test. Testers typically immerse fully cured coatings through a gauntlet of noxious solvents and fluids such as brake fluid, gasoline, xylene, MEK, acids, and more. These 24-hour tests reveal which chemicals cause harm to flooring systems. Such testing may reveal "no effect," "slight softening of film," or "film destroyed."

That said, while epoxies, polyurethanes, and polyureas are tough as nails, there are not many coats on earth that can survive 24 hours in a bath of brake fluid or MEK. The harshest chemicals that floor coatings will face are MEK, brake fluid, and xylene. On the other hand, almost every epoxy, advanced two-part commercial polyurethane, and polyurea can easily shrug off all acids, mineral spirits, oils, and gasoline.

The surest way to ensure the vitality and integrity of your floor system is to clean up spills promptly. When spills are not allowed to linger, even the toughest solvent will never get a chance to blemish your flooring system.

Avoid Scratches and Abrasions

All floor coating systems are subject to abrasions through contact with hard materials. Typically, car tires will not scratch your floor, because car tires are soft. Hard tools, and dirty boots, however, can dull your floor's surface by creating tiny scratches over time. Never drag anything like boxes or cabinets across the floor – carry them or use a hand truck instead.

Refinishing Your Epoxy or Polyurea Floor Coating

Garage coatings can be refurbished if necessary – at a cost far less than the original installation. Of course, refinishing should never be necessary within the first 7 to 10 years of your flooring installation. The refining process is very simple: A flooring installer can lightly brake the surface with a walk-behind sanding machine or manually with a sanding block on a stick with medium or medium fine sandpaper. Sanding should abrade the surface just enough so that identical coatings will adhere properly, but such sanding should not reach through multiple layers of existing coatings. Naturally, any spills must be cleaned thoroughly.

After the light sanding, installers remove all dust and debris. Thereafter, installers apply a new top coat of clear coating (epoxy, polyurethane, or polyurea, depending on your original installation). A refinish coat in almost all cases will be a single coat. Remember, the refinish coat is intended simply to revive the floor's luster, and one coat usually does the trick.

The Benefits of Having a Healthy Heart

The heart plays a vital role in keeping the body alive. The heart is a pump that pumps life through the body. The heart has two main functions. It pumps blood to the lungs to retrieve oxygen and then pumps that oxygen into the blood and transports it around the rest of the body.

The heart is actually muscle and you have to keep training the muscle to maintain its conditioning. As the saying goes if you don’t use it you will lose it, and this also applies to the heart.

When the heart is in top condition the body works like a highly maintained car engine, it runs perfectly. A heart that is healthy and well taken care off is more able to cope with demands and stress that is put on the body. As the body has been designed to move it is the constant of physical activity that keeps your heart fit.

A healthy heart can provide you and your body with many benefits as follows:

• By acquiring the habit of doing physical exercise everyday you can greatly reduce your risk of heart disease and coronary heart attack. These exercises do not have to be intensive are done for a long period. As little as 15 minutes a day of exercise that makes you breathless will greatly improve the health of the heart.

• A heart that is healthy and strong will enable the body to function more effectively. This will enable the body to take on more strenuous activities and the common daily tasks are done with efficiency and comfort.

• A trained and healthy heart works more efficiently than one that is out of condition. This means the it beats at a lower rate when the body is resting. Over time this means the heart works less and does not wear out.

• The great thing about your heart is that it has the ability to heal and repair itself. For example, if it has already been damaged by heart disease it can be repaired through the proper healing processes and activities.

As you can see the heart plays a very important role and as it is a muscle of the body you have to keep training it to keep it healthy. The best way to do this is to look at your current lifestyle and see if any improvements can be made. For example, you could cut down on high fat foods and introduce more fresh fruit and vegetables into your diet. If you do not take any exercise then maybe you should consider joining a gym or go for a jog a couple of times a week to keep you and your heart in shape.

Always seek medical advise before changing your diet or taking physical exercise if you have a health condition.

Online Shopping Guide For Buying Retractable Awnings

Buying online is a terrific boon to shoppers because it lowers prices, cuts out sales tax, and offers a much more expansive selection. Purchasing retractable awnings online offers the same thing: prices are about 35% lower than buying from a brick-and-mortar store, it is easy to purchase custom widths and projections, and online stores offer more fabric colors and frame styles.

Mental Picture

There is one big impediment to buying a retractable awning online: What is it going to look like when it comes in? Not seeing the style in person is a drawback, but not significantly different from seeing a picture on a box in the store. Good retractable awning companies have taken a few steps to offset that risk:

o Picture galleries. One easy trick is to look through the Galleries of photos for homes similar to your own, and get a sampling of how the different awning styles look. Many retractable awning companies also include visual fabric swatches and other samples that can make it easier to coordinate color and style with any home, commercial building, or trailer.

o Drafts or renderings. This is a more difficult feature to find, but is invaluable to help in finding the retractable awning you want. A few retractable awning companies may take pictures and create images of your home with the selected awning style. Some even offer online software tools that use exterior photos of your home to create 3D renderings with the selected style, and can even change the fabric selection, valance style, trim color or awning style.

o Mailed samples. Good companies will mail actual retractable awning fabric and trim (piping) samples if you request it so you can have a clear idea of the color and quality before you buy.

Know What You're Looking For

With shopping, it is rare to have a perfect idea of what you're looking for, but it can help if you know what constitutes a quality retractable awning, so you can search for the right company:

o Solution-dyed acrylic fabric, which is breathable, looks good on both sides of the awning, and does not fade, crack, or mildew.

o Aluminum frames, preferably powder-coated, because they're lightweight, rustproof, and extremely durable.

o Stainless steel assembly bolts, nuts, and other hardware, which are rustproof and will not stain the fabric.

o TÜV, Eurolab, and Istedil engineering certificates, so they're thoroughly tested.

o Options like motors, sensors, pitch adjustment, timers, and remote controls.

o Most importantly, Kevlar® straps in the arms; Kevlar® (the same material used for bullet-proof vests) is stronger than steel and, unlike steel, is rust proof.

Online Rules

Buying a retractable awning online is like buying anything else online; there are certain ways to make sure that you select an honest, easy to work with company:

o Take advantage of the ability to browse. Online offers huge advantages in simple browsing: you can compare manufacturers, prices, and styles, look up customer reviews, and see different features and service options between companies.

o Get their number. One pitfall of online business is online help; a company may have an email address or online live chat, but there's no way to get a live person if you have a problem. Not every company is like that, though, and a good retractable awning company will have a direct contact number available on their site.

o shop strictly. It's standard practice, but any ecommerce site should have SSL (encrypted) connections and security features to protect your personal information.

o Check the shipping. Some less than respectable companies have good prices, but they have hidden costs: exorbitant shipping, delays in order response time, or out of stock items. Make sure that the retractable awning company is actually able to fulfill your order, and that they are not padding the shipping and packaging expenses.

o Check their packaging. Any retractable awning should be shipped in pre-formed, paperboard crating, an excellent, strong alternative to cardboard and tubes, which are problematic for shipping long, narrow objects.

o Look for warranties. The company should guarantee the condition and quality of its product. A good awning company will guarantee the awning fabric for 5 years (with the thread and seams guaranteed against teething or separating for the lifetime of the fabric). The frame should be guaranteed for a minimum of 25 years.

o Listen to customer testimonials. Ask for feedback that previous customers have given. Trustworthy awning companies have records that they brag about – no returned products and high rates of returning customers and customer referrals.

Buying retractable awnings online offers shoppers a lot of benefits: prices 35% lower than traditional stores, no sales tax, wider selection of styles, fabrics, and options, and easily-obtained custom sizes. With a little foreknowledge, shopping for a retractable awning online can be a much more enjoyable, low-key, and satisfactory experience, especially compared to the limits of a local store.
