How to Remove Wallpaper in Ten Easy Steps

The steps on how to remove wallpaper are simple. The actual task however can be frustrating and time consuming but the results are worth it.

How to remove wallpaper without making a mess of the walls underneath? Any damage to the wall depends in large part to the way the paper was installed to begin with. If the walls were not prepped properly with a primer, you may have a headache on your hands because the process of removing the paper could cause some damage to the walls.

Wallpaper Removal Tools

  • One or two 3 -6″ broad putty knives, or spatula. (if you can use a plastic spatula it will leave less marks on the wall)
  • a ladder
  • a scoring or perforation tool
  • paint roller
  • drop cloth
  • bucket
  • sponge
  • wallpaper solution remover
  • white vinegar

Getting Started on How to Remove Wallpaper

1. Move as much of the furniture away from the walls into the center of the room or out of the room completely if possible.

2. Lay down a drop cloth so that the floors are protected.

3. Take all of the switch plate covers off of the outlets.

Shut off the circuit breakers to the room and if you are working at night on this project after work, invest in a halogen lamp from the home improvement store and a long extension cord.

4. Test a small area of the wall first by lifting an edge of the wall paper. Many times if you try to strip the wallpaper before applying any solution, the paper will come off leaving just the adhesive to take worry about. If that is the case, then you are lucky.

5. How to remove wallpaper with a solution that will dissolve the adhesive backing on the paper is to use a wallpaper removal concentrate and mix according to the instructions on the bottle in a bucket of hot water.

Safe and Simple 603 is a contractor-grade remover that when diluted with water effectively removes all kinds of paper and adhesives, or you can mix equal parts vinegar with warm water in a spray bottle.

6. Using a paint roller or the spray bottle with vinegar, apply to the wallpaper in small sections starting from the bottom and working your way up to the ceiling. Wait a few minutes to allow the solution to do most of the work, then start stripping the wallpaper by hand. This will leave the adhesive which you can then scrape off with your spatula or putty knife.

7. If the paper does not come off easily, you may need to reapply the wallpaper removal solution and let it soak through a little longer or if your solution isn’t penetrating through the paper use your scoring tool with a light hand in circular motions to make tiny perforations into the material.

Some people don’t care to use a scoring tool, because you need to use the right amount of pressure to prevent damage and it leaves tiny holes in the drywall. If your walls are plaster, it is not as much of an issue.

Okay, you are almost done.

8. Now that you have the wallpaper off, use a sponge in a solution of one cup of white vinegar mixed in 1 gallon of water to remove any adhesive residue. Rinse with clear water for a smooth clean surface and allow it to dry.

9. If you used a scoring tool, repair any holes it may have left in the drywall with spackling compound and let them dry overnight, then sand the repair.

10. If you plan to hang new wallpaper be sure to prep the walls with a primer specifically designed for wallpaper application. This will be helpful in the future when the new paper has to come down!

The same is true if you are planning to paint but with a painting primer to assure a smooth application.

Finishing Basement Ceilings

There are many ways to finish basement ceilings and you have to chose which type that suits you best. You can chose from traditional drywall, tongue and grove board, acoustic ceilings and drop ceilings. You can think about each option and find the best one that works for you.

If you decide on drywall, you have to be prepared to relocate pipes and ducts in between the joist. If all of it can’t be hidden in the joist cavities, then you will have to box in what is showing. You will also have to add furring strips to put extra support where you need it. This is necessary to give strength to the boxes and provide a solid backing for the finished ceiling treatment. You will find that drywall is a good choice due to the fact that it is inexpensive but there is a lot of work involved before you get a finished product such as plastering and sanding.

If you prefer acoustic ceiling, the tiles are wonderful to work with due to their small size. You can install them by stapling them to the furring stripes but you do have to have all pipes and ducts hidden to get a smooth surface for your ceiling. You will find the same with using tongue and grove board, but once again you have to have a smooth surface and all pipes and ducts must be hidden. The cost of using this material is a bit higher, especially if you have to get someone to move pipes and ducts that can’t be hidden easily.

A drop ceiling works really well on a basement ceiling if you have the height in the room. It is the easiest solution for your ceiling. This involves framing everything out, but it certainly will take care of the pipes that are hanging and cover them well with a smooth finish when you’re done.

Restaurant Flooring – Floor Types and Suitable Options

Restaurant flooring is supposed to be chosen carefully. Epoxy, is always a good idea since it is pretty much the most durable style. It can better resist wear, aggression and constant use. However, it should be used carefully and you should not abuse it, because it gives a cold feeling to the environment.

The rustic materials are best suited for outdoor, patios, gardens and terraces. For balconies and terraces, the epoxy should be light and porous. Sophisticated options are better in bathrooms and kitchens. It is always good to give your restaurant that special touch.

Placing epoxy as floor covering must be provided on a firm and level subfloor. Socket can be dispensed as its ending is neat, but you can use the same models and or coatings. No epoxy needs to be cured, but sealed. The right thing is to use a silicone product that does not change its color or texture, but to protect the spots. You could also add a treatment that gives a matte or gloss finish similar to that carried him to the wood. Note that epoxy is best to decorate with a natural finish.

This is resistant, waterproof and easy to clean restaurant flooring option. For its unique simple design of veins and their lower cost, it is related to the elegance and sophistication. The epoxy is often used in kitchen, offices, pharmacies, restaurants, but care must be taken despite its amazing durability. You can always reach an abrasive polishing with which you will achieve high brightness level naturally, ie without wax or chemicals. The polish can be brilliant, semi-gloss and matte.

Besides the natural varieties there are heat treated options to resist stains and enamel. While it is already strong, you can always add some extra coats.

You can even paint it! Various colors and different cuts (or irregular shapes), with regular or irregular surface epoxy items are available. You should pay particular attention to the slabs that are sandy constitution, as they often break off because of the natural sand abrasion process, when such matter takes places, you can grab some resin to cure it properly. For a better finish you must cure the slab with a stain treatment. In the slabs of dark color is necessary to keep them with wax or a special liquid to enhance color and it does not become whitish.

Painting

Sometimes cement along with resinous styles are used because of their great strength to pave streets. It is the same as the style used for restaurants. If you are looking to paint your restaurant flooring, there is a wide range of hues, from the grays and earthy, red and violet. You should let your imagination flow! You can choose from an extensive palette of colors. Some tones even range from cream, through the sand to red. You might as well select wisely so you can enhance your restaurant interior.

When it comes to styles, you should consider a non slip floor so you can avoid employee’s injuries when washing the dishes or when working fast and moving around. These floors are built very sturdy.

The P90X Workout Schedule – Classic, Lean, Doubles – Which is Right For You?

The P90X Workout Schedule is comprised of three separate routines. You choose where you want to start based on your physical conditioning and then just push play. The three options are broken down into Classic, Lean, and Doubles. I will give you a breakdown of each P90X Workout Schedule for those that don’t understand.

P90X Workout Schedule Options:

“Classic”

This is where most people seem to start, including myself – The Classic Workout Schedule is straight forward and offers the best combination or those ready to build muscle and burn fat as they go.

The classic workout schedule requires no more than 1 hour and a half in any one day – The longest workout of the entire schedule is Yoga X.

I chose to do classic in my first round of P90X and seemed to get very good results by sticking almost 100% to the workouts. My diet was nothing organized and didn’t follow the P90X Meal Plan. However, I did eat healthy and clean, i.e. no soda, candy, ice cream, red meats, sugars, etc. I still consume sugar but on a highly reduced level, pretty much only in my coffee – that is my one diet evil.

The Classic P90X Workout Schedule will work you out 6 days a week just as Lean and Doubles will do except you tend to focus on a mix of Cardio and Resistance training, nearly 50 / 50. It looks something like this:

  1. Monday: Resistance + Abs
  2. Tuesday: Cardio
  3. Wednesday: Resistance + Abs
  4. Thursday: Stretch / Balance (Yoga)
  5. Friday: Resistance + Abs
  6. Saturday: Cardio
  7. Sunday: Off

P90X Classic is ideal for those ready to get started from ground 0 and not looking to lose a ton of fat up front before building muscle. The above example stays true through each phase with a few resistance videos switching up to add Muscle Confusion. Let’s look at Lean now.

“Lean”

The Lean Workout Schedule will have you focusing on Cardio a lot more than resistance. This is a great place to start for those that want to focus on weight loss first and then maybe work into muscle building later on. With Lean you will be doing a lot more cardio options which in turn will burn more calories and help you drop fat faster.

I have not tried the lean approach option myself but I think it would be ideal if you wanted to condition and didn’t think you were quite ready to jump into Classic. You will need to set aside up to 1 hour and 30 minutes for your Lean routine; the longest workout is Yoga X.

A Lean P90X Workout Schedule would look something like this:

  1. Monday: Core / Cardio
  2. Tuesday: Cardio
  3. Wednesday: Resistance + Abs
  4. Thursday: Stretch / Balance (Yoga)
  5. Friday: Resistance + Abs
  6. Saturday: Cardio
  7. Sunday: Off

Notice how Monday differs from the Classic P90X Workout Schedule – You add an additional cardio / core exercise to maximize fat burning and core strengthening.

Now what’s interesting is at phase 3 of Lean you actually do workouts similar to Phase 1 of the Classic. With that said you can see how Lean is designed as a lead up into Classic and then Classic builds into what we will look at next.

“Doubles”

Alright, this is the ultimate P90X Workout Schedule and for those already in shape or already doing Classic but ready for more. You will see why in a moment. Now with Doubles you will need a lot more dedication and time, you will need to set aside up to 2 hours and 20 minutes on some days. In most cases you will wake up and do cardio, then a couple hours later or in the evening you will do resistance + Abs.

Let’s take a look at what the P90X Doubles looks like. ( Now keep in mind in Phase 1 Doubles appear to be the exact same as Classic – In phase 2 this changes by adding 3 cardio workouts each week and in phase 3 there is a significant change by adding 4 cardio workouts)

The following example is based off the Doubles P90X Workout Schedule – Phase 3. I want you to see how serious this really gets!

  1. Monday: AM – Cardio / PM – Resistance + Abs
  2. Tuesday: AM – Cardio / PM – Cardio
  3. Wednesday: Resistance + Abs
  4. Thursday: AM – Cardio / PM – Stretch and Balance (Yoga)
  5. Friday: AM – Cardio / PM – Resistance + Abs
  6. Saturday: Cardio
  7. Sunday: Off

Notice how extreme is gets? The biggest difference between Classic and Doubles is the addition of all the Cardio. The best way to compare is this – In Doubles phase 3 you’re basically doing Classic with 4 additional Cardio workouts a week. Pretty intense eh – Believe me, it is!

Well that was a quick look at the P90X Workout Schedule and the variations that occur. This is a generalized overview but was hopefully informative. Keep in mind that with P90X and Muscle Confusion your resistance days will switch up to continuously bring intensity and challenge so you never fully adapt. This is the power of the P90X Workout Schedule – Choose Yours.

  • If your new and want to lose weight fast – Do Lean.
  • If you’re seasoned and want a challenge plus muscle gain – Do Classic
  • If you’re a pro and classic is not a challenge, get extreme – Do Doubles

The choose is yours and the P90X Workout allows so many variations there is no reason why you should not be pushing play today – Take responsibility for yourself and your health, take action today!

Full Tilt Poker offers the poker player an opportunity to enter big buy-in poker tournaments through a method known as satellites. In these satellites, a player enters a small buy in tourney and wins a ticket to the next level (or step). Simply enter the lowest possible poker tournament (a $1 buy-in is offered) and play the tournament as solid as possible, avoiding the rush to hurry up and chip up. The reasoning behind playing a tight game early on, is that many poker players will attempt to chase and fish their way into a lot of chips, and soon will find their way to busting out.

If you use a tight strategy in the early poker tourney, you can avoid the chance of being sucked out on or losing your stack to an aggressive bluffer or chaser. In addition to developing the tight strategy early on, you also want to hone your skill in middle and late tourney play.

As most online poker players are aware, the software used by online poker sites often seem to favor the underdog, thereby creating a dangerous situation when you have a big hand. This is the reason behind many claims that online poker is rigged.

How to Avoid losing when Online Poker is Rigged

In addition to playing a solid tight poker style, and developing a plan to win tickets on Full Tilt Poker, you also must avoid the potential that online poker is rigged. The way to do that is to be aware of how the software works and how you can prevent the potential problems associated with the poker algorithms known to defeat your good hands.

The matter of avoiding that problem is to learn more of the mechanics behind the software. It is generally accepted that poker players are up against staggering odds when it comes to playing poker online, especially when you are fighting against the software, newbie players who can not fold a draw, and poker algorithms that make deterministic decisions based on play.

In conclusion, if you truly want to succeed in online poker and want to have an opportunity to buy-in to large tournaments, the best method is to win tickets on Full Tilt Poker and advance yourself with minimal risk. You can minimize your risk and gain a huge advantage, by following this easy method of playing a solid game early on, avoid the suckouts by selecting good starting hands and discover how the online poker software and algorithms work.

Good luck and hope to see you at the final table of a big buy-in tourney!

InStep Safari Swivel Double Jogging Stroller – Review

Choosing the best double jogging stroller can be very hard. There are many brands and models available, so it’s difficult to pick the right one. One model you should consider is the InStep Safari Swivel Double Jogging Stroller.

This Safari Double Stroller has some great features:

– Storage basket under the seats

– Shoulder pads and plush seats

– 16″ rear wheels and a 12″ front swivel wheel

– Adjustable height handle

– Bumper Bar

– Lightweight and compact. Does fit in the back of a small car

– Very easy to fold

One of the benefits of this double stroller is that you can use it on many terrains. The 16″ wheels do not have any problems with the bumpiest terrain. The parking brake ensures that you baby and the stroller stay put..even on steep slopes.

Unfortunate there are some cons. This double stroller is not suitable for tall kids. The height restriction is 38 inches, but I think 35 inches is the max. Also the sunshade has its limits. In the summer it isn’t a problem, but in the spring and fall it can be.

Also if you are seriously thinking about using a stroller for running, I do not recommend the instep safari double jogging stroller. This stroller does not have a hand brake and does not seem sturdy enough for a speed ride.

This double stroller is an excellent choice for regular use. There are better choices, but those double strollers have a much higher price tag. And the cons..probably you and your baby will not mind.

The author of this excellent training and teaching tool is Audrey Grant, who just happens to be “THE” international expert on Bridge, and she is up to date on all the latest when it comes to playing bridge.

“Don’t be left with the water under the bridge, go get on top of your bridge game” is what I said to myself after watching this DVD, because I now have the confidence to get in there and play. I know it’s considered a game just for fun, but I want to play to win, and I have two things going for me; I have beginner’s luck, and I have Audrey Grant backing me up! Indeed, I hope you will please consider all this.

*Note: Under full disclosure ethical considerations, and FTC rules, I’d like my readers to know that I was given this DVD while sitting down with Audrey as we shared entrepreneurial stories and discussed hard work ethic, and later decided the DVD was so good, it deserved a review. I stand 100% behind my honest assessment, and now I have to go, I have a bridge game to play.

How to Assemble a Piano Bench – A Quick User’s Guide

Most piano benches for sale online are shipped to you pre-assembled and only the legs need to be attached. This article will explain the installation procedures and recommended routine care of your piano bench.

When you unbox a new piano bench, the legs are stored inside the music storage compartment or if it’s adjustable, fastened to the bottom mechanical mechanism. The first step is to remove the legs, find the parts bag and remove the washers and nuts. There should be four flat washers, lock washers and standard threaded nuts inside plus a metal wrench for tightening the nuts.

Once you are ready to assemble the bench if it’s an adjustable type or a common bench with no music storage it is best to lay the bench on its top, on a flat surface so the legs can be attached to the four angles. If the bench is a common type duet bench with music storage you will need to place the bench on an elevated surface with the bottom facing down and the lid open since the bolts are affixed and tightened from inside the music storage compartment.

You will need to routinely check the tightness of the threaded nuts with the metal wrench to insure the piano bench is stable and to prevent damage. The finish of the bench can be cleaned with a cotton cloth lightly dampened with water, or commercially produced piano polish. Assembly and care of a piano bench is a simple process and can be completed by anyone.

Types of Jewellery Mounting Techniques

Stones and gems are often an essential element in a jewellery piece. They can add more charm, appeal and shimmer to the design of these precious pieces. However, these stones are not merely glued on a piece of jewellery, jewellers use appropriate techniques and ways of mounting called Jewellery Setting. Here are some jewellery setting techniques often used in mounting precious or semi precious stones to jewellery.

The Prong Setting is primarily used in mounting diamonds, pearls and gemstones. It consists of four to six vertical posts poked up from the base beneath the stone. These posts create a seat on which the stone will sits. The prongs or spikes are then folded over, onto the stone to embrace and hold it in place. This setting provides an modest and sleek appearance.

In order to mount flat-backed stones like cameos or cabochons, the Bezel Setting is employed by jewellers. This jewellery setting features a thin rim of precious metal which can be of either a decorative or simple designs, encircles the stone entirely or partially. The rim is then bent a little inward towards the stone to adhere it in place. A diamond mounted by bezel setting looks more elegant and is cosseted from accidental rubbing. This setting is more secure so the precious gem is unlikely to be dislodged.

The Channel Setting is described as a trough or a channel in the metal. This jewellery setting is akin to the bezel setting with no sides nor prongs. Notches are present on both sides of the channels on which the stones are mounted. This levels the stone atop the channel and sets the stones in a solid line.

The Channel Setting also has its variation called the Bar Setting. This mounting kind provides a look where a number of stones are seemingly floating in adjacent berths as every gem is docked in its respective private channel and separated from its neighboring stones by two pieces of thin bars of metal.

The Pave Setting is utilized in jewellery making to create a surface which seems being filled with small round stones, usually diamonds. Every piece of the gems lie in the drilled hole in the base of the setting. The stones are then fastened by small bead of metal pressed up against the stones. It creates an appearance of a stones blanket since each stone is slightly set apart by the width of the small beads.

The Bead Setting is a type of jewellery mounting that sets the stone into the metals through the use of gravers or burins (tiny chisels). The metal surface is directly drilled with a hole, then a ball burr is utilized to create a concave hollow with the same size as that of the stone.

Flush Setting is a variation of the Bezel Setting and is sometimes called the Gypsy Setting that appears similar with the bead setting. This is a recent type of setting that creates a fashionable appearance. Sandblasting is utilized to finish the mounting process. In this type of jewellery mounting, a window is cut from the base where the gem is set and secured underneath, the top or the crown may reach over the base which allows the gem to twinkle with light.

Lead Guitar – Hammer-Ons and Pull-Offs

There are several types of “tricks” that guitarists use when they play lead guitar. One is called a “hammer-on”, and another is called a “pull-off”.

Executing hammer-ons and pull-offs will not only improve your speed when you play lead guitar, they make your playing smoother and produce a different type of sound than if you play the notes individually.

Some simple hammer-ons:

E 0——-H2—————————–

B 0——–H2—————————–

G 0——–H2——————————

D 0——–H2——————————

A 0——–H2——————————-

E 0——–H2——————————-

Starting from the high E string, and continuing down the strings, pick the open string, then “hammer” your finger down onto the 2nd fret without picking it. Try to make the “hammered” note the same volume as the picked open string.

Some simple pull-offs:

E 0———P2———————————

B 0———P2——————————–

G 0———P2———————————

D 0———P2———————————

A 0———P2———————————

E 0———P2———————————

Again, starting from the high E string start with your 2nd finger and pick that note. Then “flick” your finger off the fret producing the open stringed note without picking that note. Don’t flick too hard — just hard enough to produce a good tone on the second note.

Next, try this:

E –1——————H4————————–

B –1——————H4————————–

G –1———–H3———————————

D –1———–H3———————————

A –1———–H3———————————

E –1——————-H4————————-

This, by the way is a pentatonic scale. Use the pick for all 1st fret notes, and hammer all 3rd and 4th fret notes. You should end up with both of your fingers still on the guitar (string by string).

Now, using this same scale, do pull-offs. In order to do this, you must have your fingers on both of the frets involved to start with. For example, on the first fret you will start with your 1st finger on the 1st fret AND your 4th finger on the 4th fret. Then you will pick the note that your 4th finger is on, then flick off to the first finger.

As a bit of a finger-twister exercise, try alternating hammer-ons and pull-offs:

E string 1-4 hammer

B string 4-1 pull-off

G string 1-3 hammer

D string 3-1 pull-off

A string 1-3 hammer

E string 4-1 pull-off

If you’re not used to doing, this start out slow and get all of the notes clear and even sounding. Then gradually increase your tempo until you can play these very fast. The key word here is GRADUALLY. You won’t play fast if you can’t play slow.

If you have an electric, try cranking up your amp at a good overdrive or distortion level. Judge your progress on your technique and adjust accordingly. Just keep in mind that doing these things at high volume and distortion levels tends to cover up mistakes and bad technique. If you can execute hammer-ons and pull-offs well on a clean setting, they will sound that much better when you crank it up. Work on good technique and not short cuts.

Tile Over Tile- Radiant Heated Bathroom Floor

Tile over tile means exactly what it says, but in this case you’re going to sandwich a layer of radiant heating mats between the old and the new tile. Tile over tile is an easy way to avoid the mess associated with tearing up the old bathroom floor, but requires thorough planning.

Deflection:

Before you install a radiant heat mat over the old bathroom tile and install new tile over the mat, you should check the floor for deflection. This is the maximum amount the floor can move under the anticipated load (you). Ceramic tile is hard and will break or dislodge if the surface bends under the load. Here’s a simple test:

Stand in the middle of the bathroom floor and jump up and down. If the floor moves it has a deflection problem and is not a good candidate for tile over tile installation until you reinforce the sub-floor.

Avoid That Sinking Feeling:

Since you’re tiling over tile, you must plan in advance to avoid making the vanity, toilet and tub look like they’re “sinking” into the new floor.

One way to keep the bathroom fixtures from looking swallowed up by the new floor is to remove the baseboard and reinstall it above the new tile. Better yet, why not buy new baseboard tile too?

In order to compensate for approximately 1/2″ of additional floor height, plan on adjusting the length of the door(s) and possibly installing a new threshold.

Preparation:

Remove or re-attach broken tile pieces. If you remove them, wait until the floor has been sanded and thoroughly vacuumed before you fill the spaces with mortar.

If any of the tiles have cracks wider than 1/8″, you should consider a crack isolation membrane. This membrane is a roll on product that you apply to the old tile. The membrane allows the new floor to move independently of the old.

Next, sand the old tile so the mortar has a good bonding surface. A belt sander would ensure a consistent bonding surface.

Please make sure you wear a face mask and safety glasses while sanding. The tiles may have been fired with toxic lead glaze.

After sanding, vacuum the tile and wipe down with an all purpose cleaner. Pay special attention to the areas untouched by the sander.

Installation:

Roll out the mats prefabricated to your specifications by the manufacturer. Some radiant systems, like Quickmat, are self-adhesive and require no mortar to secure them to the old tile floor.

If you’re home has only one bathroom, cover the heating mats during inevitable interruptions with plywood or heavy cardboard.

Throughout the installation process, use a digital ohm meter to check the resistance of the heating mats. This will help you monitor the mats for short circuits.

Have your electrician connect the heating mats to the power source and install the thermostat. Depending on the local electrical inspection procedures, you might have to wait until the job is inspected before you start laying tile.

Trowel out the mortar over the mats. Some manufacturers recommend latex- modified or epoxy-modified mortar and grout instead of water-based multi-purpose adhesives. Mortar beds thicker than 3/8 inch should work fine for most systems; they just take slightly longer to heat up.

Since you won’t be covering the entire floor with heating mats(under the toilet), make sure the mortar in these areas is level with the mortar covering the heating mats.

This might sound obvious, but don’t bang the trowel on the mat to remove excess mortar from the trowel. This could sever the heating wire.

Finally, you can install the new tile and baseboard.

Fire It Up!

Your new radiant heated bathroom floor looks beautiful and you can’t wait to get warm feet. Go ahead, but only for 10 minutes. Don’t put the system into full operation until the mortar is fully cured. This can take up to four weeks.

See why thorough planning is so important?
