Installing Kitchen Cabinets – To the Ceiling Or Leave a Space?

Should you install kitchen cabinets right to the ceiling or leave a space? This is a common question that most homeowners struggle with. There is no right or wrong answer to the question, but there are some challenges and design features to consider

1) The height of your ceilings- ceiling height will not only have an impact on whether you will have enough room to leave a space above your cabinets, but it will also impact the size cabinets you can use. With 30″ wall cabinets, if you use the industry standard of 19 1/2″ between your base and wall cabinets, you will need a minimum of 84″ in height, and with 42″ cabinets you will need a minimum of 96″… if you planning on installing crown moulding or leaving a space, that will have an impact on the size of the cabinets that you can use and whether you will have to install them to the ceiling or leave a space

2) Contour of the ceiling- one of the biggest misconceptions is that your ceiling is completely level. Even in new construction the ceiling, just like the floor, will have some variances in height (the better the builder, the more accurate they will be). While it may not be obvious when just looking at your ceiling, trying to install cabinets right up the ceiling can reveal some significant high and low spots. Since your cabinets should always be level, regardless of the ceiling conditions, you will want to accurately note all of the high and low spots before deciding how you are going to install the kitchen cabinets. This is one of the reasons that most people leave some empty space above the cabinets or use crown moulding. The crown moulding can help hide all the imperfections in the ceiling.

3) Crown Moulding and Trim- As I mentioned before, it may be necessary to use crown or trim above your kitchen cabinets to help hide any variances. Even if your ceilings are level, it is quite common for people to use crown moulding or trim at the top of the cabinets to add some architectural detail to the kitchen. Depending on whether the crown moulding has to be attached to the top of the cabinets or to the face frame, it will have an impact on what level you can install your cabinets at.

4) The style of your kitchen cabinets- with European-style cabinets and some of the newer trends on the market, the kitchen cabinets have a full overlay door, which means there is little or no room between the door and the top of the cabinet. Because of this, it make it difficult to install the wall cabinets right up to the ceiling.

So before shopping for kitchen cabinets, it is important to consider the look that you are going for, the style of cabinets that you are going to buy, and the condition of the space you will be installing them in.

Building Lean Muscle for Those Over 50

I have a myriad of aches and pains throughout my body. From the arthritis in my joints to the crimps in my neck and shoulders to a bad achilles heel to gout; you name it, and clearly the warranty has run out on my body.

The football, boxing, tae kwon do, and all the other “he-man” things I did when I was indestructible in my younger days, in a galaxy far, far away, has taken its toll.

Yet, if you are like me, on the edge of turning 50; it does not mean losing your desire (and need) to be healthy and strong, not to mention sporting a few pounds of lean muscle mass. For the past several years, being strong and healthy to me has meant basically running and doing some calisthenics. The one thing I did not do was resistance training – that is, pumping iron. As a kid I loved to pump iron. In my earliest 40’s, I loved pumping iron.

But for the reasons I listed above, and more, I stopped weight lifting. Other than bodyweight exercises and wind sprints, I came to the conclusion that my body and joints could no longer handle weight or resistance training.

That is until about 8 months ago when I got my Bodylastics home gym and truly understood what elastic resistance training was about. With the exception of 3 breaks (3 weeks in June, 4 weeks mid October, and 2 weeks mid December), I’ve been more consistent using these elastic bands than I have been with anything else for a while. Actually, I stopped exercising all together for about 6 to 8 months leading up to using this home gym – and it showed.

As with any equipment, there are always a range of hits and misses. The simple key is to pick an equipment or venue that has more hits for you than misses. I would contend that Bodylastics as a home gym has a lot more pluses than minuses. That said, this isn’t necessarily about singing hosannas to this particular brand. Rather, elastic resistance bands in general have one aspect that makes it far superior to deadweights for someone like me. That aspect is the ability to move the start point of any movement without potential for joint injury. This is possible because elastic bands are not gravity dependent.

For example, there is a “line of pain” that shoots through my right shoulder whenever I do upright rows. I don’t do upright rows, and with free weights or any other gravity based training, I never will. But with elastic bands, it’s easy to move my hands and start position around until I am in the groove that is pain free. The beauty of it is – I can still train with intensity.

And that is key – the ability to train with intensity.

Since I begin using Bodylastics (it can be with any elastic resistance band system – research what’s best for you), I have gotten leaner and stronger. I still have a long way to go. It took several years to turn myself into a tub of lard (actually didn’t take that long, unfortunately) but I am steadily getting healthier and stronger plus adding a few pounds of lean muscle mass in the process. That’s sweet.

At 50, building lean muscle is all about finding the means to work around the aches and pains built over the years. If that means no more pumping iron but pulling on “rubber bands,” then that’s cool with me.

The Three Models of Auto Tilt Umbrella

In the automated world in which we live, very little has to be done manually. One can now order groceries from the comfort of one’s home computer, then have them delivered right to their door. This automation extends also into the realm of patio furniture, notably in the form of the auto tilt umbrella. There are three variations to this patio umbrella, each with special features to facilitate convenient outdoor entertaining.

Auto Tilt

First, let us begin with the basic form of auto tilt umbrella. The basic model is made out of an aluminum pole with a crank mechanism attached that opens and closes the umbrella. Once open, if the crank is turned more, the umbrella will then tilt in usually two to three preset angle positions, or some which have infinite locked positions. These automated versions are easier to open than manual umbrellas, and thus cause less strain to arms and backs. Also, by being able to tilt the umbrella, you can move the shade to where you most need it, which is great for smaller spaces and control. The only thing that can go wrong with an auto tilt umbrella is that in some cases the crank or locking mechanism can fail, but that is a rare occurrence and usually caused by poor quality factory manufacturing.

Collar Tilt

Similar to the basic auto tilt umbrella is the modified collar tilt feature. The fixture of the automated umbrella has been around almost as long as modern patio furniture, but the collar feature popped up in the 1990s. To operate these, you still crank the umbrella to open it, but rather than keep cranking, it stops when it’s fully open. From there, a specially designed ring or collar at the top is what tilts the umbrella. It can move into a number of positions and is preferred by some people for its smooth movements. It’s a nice umbrella for tables because it’s easier to reach up and twist the collar rather than crank or manually use a push button to re-angle. On the other hand, it is a more involved process than the auto tilt umbrella. This is because the collar requires two separate manual movements as far as opening and tilting. Also, the collar tilt may not be as easy to operate for some as a crank motion. In addition, if the umbrella is not securely attached to the base then the entire thing might fall over when you turn the collar.

Shade Dial

Lastly, the most evolved model is the shade-dial. This trademarked feature does one better than the auto tilt umbrella because it tilts a full 360 degrees to accommodate. This way, you can enjoy around the clock shade from sunrise to sunset. It resembles the collar tilt in that there is the crank with a second mechanism situated above it. But rather than a collar, the second mechanism is the dial, which when turned will point the umbrella canopy in the sun’s direction. It’s much easier to turn a dial than either crank or twist the collar of the other models. However, like the collar tilt, the shade-dial comprises two manual motions, but neither is particularly difficult.

In conclusion, the three types of auto tilt umbrella are similar in look and operation. The differences lie in their price points and complexity, but all are a valuable asset to patio furniture which can make your time outdoors more pleasant.

Dodge Charger interior accessories can be any or combination of the following; adding custom designed floor mats, aluminum racing pedals, navigation systems, custom designed sunshade, steering wheel covers, wood dash accent trim, and even some high-quality seat covers like sheepskin or Katzkin aftermarket leather to add a little bit of pizazz and comfort that easily surpasses the look, feel and durability of the stock seats. For your interior upgrade, you can easily add backup sensors or backup alarm with camera, music and audio upgrade, GPS navigation system, and also you can have iPod kits and interface; using an iPod interface will enable you to charge your iPod while at the same time listening and provide you with near CD-quality sound from the factory radio.

The Dodge Charger like the Chrysler 300 or 300C, is a road stud; a power beast on the road, or at the tracks. Left in its present form, it will perform at a maximum level with adequate power and superior handling. However, enough is never enough. If you wish to rev up your Charger to extreme capacity, you’re welcome to doing so without hesitation, because the new Dodge Charger is receptive to additional tuning and added modifications without limitations. With the supercharged Dodge Charger in motion, there is no holds barred.

Fresh Parking Lot Marking and Maintenance Improve Curb Appeal

Your parking lot is the first thing your customers and visitors see at your facility. And nothing looks as good as a freshly striped lot. Bright, clean markings on well-maintained pavement make your lot look organized and attractive. A good-looking parking lot sends the message that your organization is efficient and well maintained. It’s the first impression you give, so why not make it your best impression?

Pavement Markings Control Traffic

Pavement markings not only designate parking areas, but also safely direct people and vehicles around in your parking area. Use stencils to mark out loading areas, crosswalks, fire lanes and tow-away zones to show people where it’s safe to walk and to tell drivers what places are off limits.

Straight or Angled Parking Spaces – Which Is Better?

Lot striping maximizes your space by giving drivers “rules” or guides on how not to take up too much space. Using a paint striping machine makes striping quick and easy. Straight parking spot markings let you get the most parking spots out of your space. They are easy to stripe and they allow two-way traffic. Angled parking spot markings are a little more difficult to stripe and don’t allow for as many spaces. But they are easier for drivers to pull into and back out of, plus they help create a one-way traffic flow in your lot.

Reserve Parking Space with Pavement Markings

When striping and marking your lot, it’s a good opportunity to create designated parking spaces for disabled people, residents, customers, employees or visitors. By creating designated areas for residents, customers and visitors, it promotes good will and sends them the message that you care about their comfort and convenience. By marking employee parking spots, it gives them guidance where to park and keeps them from parking in the premium parking spots reserved for customers, visitors or the disabled.

ADA Parking Rules Under ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) guidelines you must reserve handicapped accessible parking spaces for both cars and vans. Failure to provide these parking spaces can lead to stiff fines and in the case of new construction, withholding of operating or occupancy permits. The number of ADA spaces required varies on the number of parking spaces in your lot. For instance, a lot with 26 to 50 parking spaces is required to have at least 2 handicapped accessible spots and 1 van accessible space.

Parking Lot Maintenance Tips

Striping a worn out or damaged parking lot is like putting whipped cream on an onion. Why spend the time and labor of marking the lot look if pavement underneath is cracked and potholed? You should carefully inspect your parking lot regularly for cracks, potholes or any other damage caused by salt, water, oil, gas, sunlight or cold. When a crack is wider than 1/4″, it’s time to seal it. Fix smaller holes as soon as they appear. It keeps the water from seeping through and making bigger potholes. After repairs, be sure to sealcoat the pavement to give your striping and pavement markings a good, clean base.

Bridging The Generation Gap in The Workplace – A Lesson From The Queen

Bridging the generation gap in the workplace can be especially hard for small businesses and family-owned business. Take the Royal Family for example. Talk about one tough family business. And talk about one large generation gap.

First, you have Queen Elizabeth II, who was born in 1926 and has been reigning now for 60 years. Then you have the popular young royals, Prince William (’82) and Harry (’84) who have been melting girls’ hearts since their mother tragically died in 1997.

When you think about, this family has come a long way since Princess Diana came into the picture and got the Queen’s knickers in a twist. Princess Diana was known for her compassion, style, charisma, charity work, and of course, her difficult marriage to the Prince of Wales. The fact that she refused to conform to her role infuriated the Queen.

These days, Princess Diana’s sons William and Harry seem to be following in her footsteps. The young royals are continuing the charity work started by their mother, they are undeniably stylish and charismatic as well as much more accessible to the public than the generations before them. For instance, Katie Couric recently conducted several rare interviews with the princes for the ABC News special, “The Jubilee Queen With Katie Couric.” And the Queen seems to be okay with this.

So what has changed? Queen Elizabeth II is learning how to bridge the generation gap in her workplace (that is, of course, Buckingham Palace). Why is this so important?

Well for the royal family, it all comes down to approval ratings. But for your business, it comes down to productivity. One of the keys to productivity is a working atmosphere that is conducive to teamwork and hard work. That environment can be difficult to achieve when you are dealing with a multi-generational workplace.

Think that your business doesn’t suffer from a generational gap? Think again! Right now we are facing a new future in terms of demographics at work: we will soon have FIVE generations in the workplace at once. (In prior years, we’ve had three or four generations). With every generation comes difference in work behavior.

So let’s break it down. Here are the generations currently in the workplace and what you should do about them.

Generations In The Workplace:

– Traditionalists 1922 – 1953:

– Baby Boomers: 1943 – 1964

– Generation X: 1965 – 1980

– Generation Y: 1981- 2000

Step One: Recognize The Generation Gap

If you want to bridge the generation gap in the workplace, you first need to recognize it. After all, the first step to recovery is admitting you have a problem. Right?

So take a second and say to yourself, “My name is ______ and my company has a generation gap.”

There. Doesn’t that feel better? Now, you must accept that each generation is different. Each generation brings its own set of beliefs, values, culture, perspectives, likes, dislikes, skills/traits to the workplace.

One generation grew up listening to World War II reports on the radio while others grew up watching reality shows on MTV. One generation witnessed the civil rights movement while another witnessed the 9/11 Terrorist attack.

One generation is optimistic and team orientated while another generation is cynical and independent. The differences go on and on. And it will do your business a great service to recognize your generation gap so that you can reconcile it.

Step Two: Reconcile The Generation Gap

When it comes to bridging the generation gap in the workplace, it’s all about compromise.

How we conducted business 40 years ago isn’t the same as how we do it today (mostly thanks to technologies). For example, you don’t even need to be in the same room to have a board meeting. You can have teleconferences with colleagues who are halfway around the world either over the phone or by using Skype.

The lesson here is-just because you’ve always done something a certain way, doesn’t mean it’s the only way. Be selective about what you keep around. For example: your values. You should probably keep those. Or perhaps, you’ve always had a live person answer the phones. If that’s important to you and your business, then keep it that way. But maybe you could be a little more open to letting people work on different schedules.

The best way to reconcile the generation gap is to listen to the other generations. Don’t immediately dismiss their ideas because they’re young (or old).

This is especially true for family businesses. If junior has been working in the business for most of his life he will be in tuned with how the company should adapt to the changing business world. So listen to what they have to say!

Step 3: Regulate the Generation Gap

If you want to bridge the generation gap in the workplace, you need to watch how you manage the different generations.

Each generation has its own management style and it’s important to know how each generation is most effectively managed.

For example, the “old” management style was often harsh and combative. The “young” style is more indirect and conciliatory. For example, the younger generations feel disrespected when they are ordered, rather than asked, to do something. When this young worker questions their older manager about why she has to do a certain task instead of just putting her head down and getting it done, it can anger the manager. The manager’s reaction here is critical. If he brusquely says, “Just do it,” or rambles on about how things were done back in his day, he could easily-if unknowingly-widen the generation gap.

And that’s just one example! There are many important strategies for managing different generations.

The important lesson here: A one size fits all management style won’t work in today’s business world if you want to retain key employees.

The Result:

By bridging the generation gap in your workplace, you’ll create an atmosphere that is conducive to productivity.

As for the royal family, the opinion polls say that Queen Elizabeth is more popular than she’s even been with approval ratings of over 80 percent!

Queen Elizabeth recognized what her subjects or the younger generation wanted and bridged the gap by allowing her grandsons to behave like their mother (well mostly).

Prince William and Prince Harry provide the glamour and accessibility that the people crave. In the end, the popularity of her grandsons reflects positively on the Queen.

It’s important to note that the Queen herself has not changed. Rather, she is embracing the younger generations and what they have to offer.

As a business owner or older manager, you do not have to change with the times. If you are a Baby Boomer, you do not have to start acting like a Generation Y. Actually, please don’t. You don’t have to act like a generation to understand them and work with them. In the end, you need to be like the Queen and allow your younger employees to work in an atmosphere that allows them to shine (as long as it this reflects positively on you and your business). After all, shouldn’t we all strive to be royal?

Replacing The Flatbed Scanner On The Hewlett-Packard 4345 MFP Laser Printer

The ADF assembly will have to be removed first to get the flatbed scanner out. When you remove the ADF unit you not use the ADF cable that is attached to the unit to lift or move it. Once removed it should be placed on a flat level surface.

1). Turn the printer off and remove the power cord form the printer.

2). While facing the back of the printer you will see the ADF cable coming from the back of the ADF to the scanner control board. There are two screws that need to be removed on the cover to access the scanner control board. Once the cover is removed there is a grounding screw that must be removed. Now the two cables can be disconnected. Before removing the cable take note of the way the cable is routed through the cable holder into the scanner bed.

3). Open the ADF assembly like you were going to make a copy on the flatbed scanner and lift the ADF off of the scanner. The ADF assembly has been calibrated to work with the scanner on which it is installed. If you were to replace the ADF unit or install it on another flatbed scanner, that scanner will have to be calibrated to with that ADF.

4). Raise the scanner assembly to the up position. While facing the front of the printer, you can now remove the front edge flange. This piece runs across the top front of the flatbed and will just snap out.

5). Looking at the top left side of the flatbed, on the paper exit side remove the two screws that hold the scanner carriage lock cover.

6).Facing the rear of the printer, remove the screw on the far left which is the right side scanner cover.

7). Close the top cover and remove the two screws from the top which hold the left scanner cover in place. Use a magnetized screwdriver to avoid dropping these two screws. There is a spring located near the rear of this cover that is not captive. Take care not to lose the spring when removing the cover.

8). Now you will see a metal plate with a series of holes in it. There are three holes that are larger than the rest and that’s where the three screws will need to be removed from.

9). Facing the rear of the printer, remove one FFC (flat flexible cable), and the connector to left of it on the scanner control board.

10). Facing the front of the printer, slide the scanner slightly to the right and then lift it up off of the printer. CAUTION: Make sure you do not release the scanner latch while the scanner assembly is removed. The gas shocks that support the scanner assembly can damage the sheet metal scanner assembly platform if the platform is raised when the scanner assembly is not installed.

When you are ready to reinstall the scanner be sure to align the mark on the scanner assembly with the mark on the control panel to correctly position the scanner assembly. With the scanner assembly correctly positioned on the sheet metal platform, slide the assembly toward the left side of the MFP until it locks into place.

Guide To Mounting A TV On The Wall

The new class of TV’s are thinner and lighter than the original flat panels that where introduced a few years ago, and this make mounting them easier for the do-it-yourself homeowner. The steps involved are still the same, in this article we will try to walk you through these steps.

The first step is to decide where you are going to mount your TV. Obviously, your TV needs to be easily and comfortably viewable from your viewing point. But, there are two things you need to take into consideration, height and screen glare. The height should afford you a comfortable viewing point without being to high that it causes neck strain. The best way to determine height is to get in a comfortable viewing position and eye where you plan to mount the TV and this is usually where you want to mount the TV. Screen glare is usually determined by the amount of light flowing into the room,

so try to avoid mount in a location that receives direct sunlight.

The next step is deciding how you are going to run your cables, there are a number of ways to conceal your power and A/V cables; from quick and simple cover-ups to more labor-intensive in-wall options. It’s a good idea to figure out how you’d like to manage your wires before deciding where to mount your TV, since some spots may be more conducive to your preferred method than others. Just remember that the location has to be accessible to a power source and A/V outlet, its a good idea to measure your cables and the distance to the outlets to make sure they will reach.

OK, now its time to mount the TV part of the mount, wall mounts are generally composed of two pieces one that you’ll attach to the TV, and another that you’ll mount to the wall. The portion on the TV then attaches to the piece on the wall, thats it, you’ve got a wall-mounted TV. Your first step will be to attach the TV portion of the mount to the back of your TV, some models have the holes covered with plastic, just use a screwdriver to pry those off. Remember try not to lay the TV down during this process. Now align the holes in the mount to the hole in the back of your TV and screw them in, the screws for these holes are usually included in the mounting kit.

The next step is install the wall portion, so that you can mount your TV to the wall, you will need to drill the bracket into wooden studs. After you’ve chosen your ideal TV mount location, use a high-quality stud finder to locate nearby studs. Verify that the mounting holes in the bracket line up with the center of the studs, this is done by finding the center of the stud by using a nail to find the ends of the stud and measuring in between the holes. Always use a level to verify that the bracket is level before securing it to the wall. Have your helper keep it stable while you screw it into the wall to make sure it stays level. Make sure you follow the mounting directions in the owner’s manual.

The last step is to run the cables before you hang the TV, to there desired location lift the TV and connect the cables to it, and finally connect the wall mount to the TV portion of the mount. In this step it is strongly advised that you have a helper to assist you to lift and mount the TV. Most mounts available today are just gravity held, so there is no need to screw anything in once you have the TV on the mount, unless your mount also offers security features, and this usually only requires tightening the security screws.

Now, you have successfully mounted your first flat panel television. Because the majority of TV’s sold today are flat panel, the mounts manufactured are designed for the do-it-yourself homeowner. But, if you need advice along the way, a great site is Installs Plus Tips at This site provides tips and advice for TV mounting and projection system installation.

The Piano – Key, Hammer And String – Part 2

When a key on an acoustic piano is pressed down, the resulting sound continues for a considerable time after the press of the key has taken place, and stops when the key is released and allowed to rise. This elimination of sound is caused by action of a second piece of piano mechanism, called the damper. The dampers are small pieces of wood with felt attached to them.

This mechanism is so connected with the key that the latter cannot be moved without occasioning a movement of its own damper. Each key is thus the means by which both a hammer and a damper are moved to action, the hammer for producing tone, the damper for stopping it. (In the case of a few of the top keys of the piano, the damper mechanism is wanting.)

The damper lies constantly touching the string, except during the holding down of the key, when it is removed from its place and kept off the string as long as the key is held down. After a pushdown of the key, if the key is kept down, it will be noticed that (1) the hammer resting at its half-position and (2) the damper removed from the string. When the key is allowed to rise, the hammer falls completely back, and the damper returns to the string, and, by touching it, stops the tone.

If there were no provision for the stoppage of tone, the effect of any performance would be the same as that produced when the right foot pedal is held down during playing. The putting down of the pedal causing the removal of all the dampers from the strings, and creating in consequence the effect as of each separate sound floating about among all the others.

In the case of the hammer, it was pointed out that its complete work is finished in the shortest possible time, that it is finished instantaneously, and that although the key be kept down (and therefore may be understood to be fulfilling some function), still nothing more must be expected from the hammer.

It will be remembered that the key has two mechanisms depending upon it, namely, that for producing the tone, and that for stopping it. As long as the key is held down, it is doing a part of its work, as soon as the key is allowed to rise a change takes place and the tone stops.

It has been already shown that the work of the hammer is completed at the moment of the stroke. It must therefore be the work of the damper which the keeping down of the key is instrumental in furthering. As opposed to the hammer’s work being finished as soon as the key is down, the work of the damper is not completed until the key rises. The work of the damper is to stop the tone; and as that stoppage cannot take place until the string is re-touched by the damper, which touch cannot take place until the key comes up; the work of the damper is therefore not finished until the key is allowed to rise.

The positive action of the hammer takes place when the key is pushed down. The positive action of the damper takes place when the key is released and allowed to rise. The negative action of both hammer and damper, namely, their leaving the string, gives the latter freedom to vibrate after the stroke. While therefore both the hammer and the damper begin their work at the same moment, they complete it at different times, the hammer instantaneously, and the damper not until the piano key is allowed to rise.

All work done between the completion of the hammer’s work and the completion of the damper’s work is done by the sounding board of the piano; but as this intermediate work is altogether beyond control of the finger, it cannot come under any consideration concerning the manner of touching the keys.

Garden Tool Set Choices – What You Should Look For When Buying a Gardening Tool Set

Anybody who’s either into gardening or contemplating taking the activity up will want certain garden implements. This is when knowing the components of a good garden tool set will come in handy. After all, any sort of outdoor garden work will be made much easier with the use of a proper set of tools. But what are the sorts of items which are generally used in a gardening tool set?

For starters, most gardening tool sets are composed of several different tools. One of the most important has always been the garden trowel. It’s an ideal tool for weeding and digging in the dirt prior to transplanting an already-mature plant or planting one that’s just starting out. No set is complete without it. For a fact, the trowel is also the single most recognizable and useful of all the tools. Keep that in mind when shopping for a set, too.

The second tool to make sure your gardening tool set includes is what’s called a garden fork. It’s good for several different purposes which include mixing any compost down into the soil and also loosening up that same soil for planting. Also, a tool like this generally has a shorter handle and is useful for fine detail work in between rows of plants or between the individual plants themselves.

No garden tool set is complete without a weed cutting implement and a garden cultivator. The purpose of the weed cutting tool should be obvious. It should have a somewhat sharpened edge, which is used for cutting down and then hacking out any weeds. The cultivator is good for aerating the soil into which plants are going to be set down.

Any good garden tool set will be sturdily-built, and can have wooden handles or good-quality fiberglass or plastic variants. The better sets have stainless steel bodies, which are long-lasting and do not rust out. Aluminum is lightweight and also will not rust. So take care to look for these basic items when it comes to the components of a good gardening tool set, and you’ll be sure to get a set of tools that provides you with everything you need, is easy and comfortable to use and also stands the test of time.

Properly Installing A Modern Chandelier For Your Home

Modern, elegantly-designed home chandeliers today have varied designs and formats, with each differing in their weights, styles and patterns.

These modern lighting fixtures also vary in the type of light that they produce and radiate. Most buyers of home décor pieces today have a tendency to view these lighting fixtures as only those opulent and very ornate fixtures that have been seen in the ballrooms of palaces or castles.

However technically, any ceiling-mounted lighting fixture that hangs from a chain or wire is referred to as a chandelier. As such, installing a new chandelier greatly differs from installing a standard ceiling-mounted lighting piece, since these fixtures are generally more heavier than the average lighting piece.

Chandeliers Greatly Enhance The Appearance of A Home’s Rooms

A modern or contemporary chandelier installed in either the dining or living room or entrance, will surely make a huge improvement in your room’s appearance, and for some it makes all that difference in the world. Some even meticulously plan the installation of one as an integral part of their overall home remodeling project.

Consider The Lighting Fixture’s weight

Your new modern or contemporary chandelier’s weight is a vital factor to consider, because you need to match this with your ceiling junction box. The junction box contains all the wiring connections in the ceiling, and it should be tough and dependable enough to fully bear the weight of your new fixture.

If your new chandelier has the same weight as the previous one, that is if you’re replacing an old one, the previous junction box will most likely work just fine. However, if the new lighting fixture is truly much heavier, you need to replace the junction box with one that should appropriately support the new fixture’s weight.

Properly Installing Your Home Chandelier

To begin the process of installing your elegant lighting fixture, first you need to turn off the power to the circuit on which you intend to work, to prevent electrocution. The next step is to replace the junction box Remember that you will need to replace the junction box only if you deem it to not be strong enough to carry the weight of your new fixture.

Once you have exactly determined its proper weight, you may now continue with the installation process, by threading your new junction box’s hardware onto the mounting strap. You will have to install a mounting strap if you don’t have one. You may either utilize the one that came with your new fixture’s kit ,or you could buy a new one from a home improvement or lighting shop. You may also use the existing screw holes to secure the mounting strap into the junction box.

Correctly Wiring Your Lighting Fixture

You need to take note that you should wire in the new lighting fixture in the same manner as the old one came out. Correctly wiring the new modern lighting fixture may be as simple as connecting white wires with white ones, or black wires with black ones, however there may be times that it can prove to be quite tedious, as there could be several wires to connect.

Begin the wiring process by stringing wires through the last link on the chain, and then lay it properly through the support nut, collar nut and up through the lamp nipple, and lastly into the junction box itself.

Lastly, connect your wires by “tying in” to the home wiring using wire nuts, or plastic connectors. You will also need to “tie in,” by properly splicing the black hot wire from the junction box with your wire nuts. After this, you should splice the white neutral wires, and carefully connect the ground wires to the green grounding screw in the junction box. – Golden Age USA

Automotive Lift Basic Safety Rules

Automotive lifts save time when you need to do repair jobs, by making the lower part of the car accessible. They are an essential item of garage equipment supply. When draining oil, you can easily remove the drain plug, which is located on the bottom of the vehicle. Without a car lift, you would need to use a hydraulic jack to raise the front end of the car and place two jack stands under it. These would need to be in place before you could drain the oil. Before you use a car lift, you should know the basic safety rules. That way you’ll avoid accidents. Failure to follow safety rules can lead to injury and even death.

Below are some “dos and don’ts” for to keep in mind when using automotive lifts.

Automotive Lift Do’s:

• Be sure to have proper training on the basic operations of the lift. Improper use can result in someone getting hurt.

• Make a thorough inspection of the car lift before using it every day. Each component must be in working order and properly lubricated.

• The locking devices must engage tightly. If one is loose, fix it.

• Always wear safety goggles when working under the car. This will prevent dirt from getting in your eyes.

• The vehicle should be balanced on the auto lift before you raise it up. You don’t want it to topple over.

• If you’re using a drive-on car lift, make sure that you place the safety wedge behind the tire. Without it, the car might slide off.

• Before lifting, check to see if you have enough ceiling clearance. This is especially important for tall vehicles like RV’s and trucks.

• Stop lifting at knee height and gently check the stability of the car on the lift. That way, you can adjust the position of the car before raising it higher.

• Before you lower the car, clear the area below of tools and people.

Vehicle Lift Don’ts:

• The vehicle must be empty before raising it up. Never lift it if it still has occupants.

• Each car lift model has a specified maximum weight capacity. You must not exceed the limit at any time.

• Some situations require the use of support stands, such as when you remove the transmission or engine of a car. Don’t lower the vehicle onto the support stand, but rather raise the support to the vehicle’s level.

• Don’t repair a car lift by yourself when you encounter a problem with. Get in touch with the manufacturer.

Easy Elevator Speech – 5 Things it Must Tell People – Include These and Generate More Referrals Fast

Here are 5 keys to building a killer elevator speech:

1. Tell people what you do. They really don’t care what your name is, or the name of the company you work for. They want to know WIIFM (What’s in it for me). So tell’em.  Example:  I sell houses, I paint houses, I prepare taxes, I help people live longer, etc. Make it very clear what it is you do.

2. Tell people how you are different from your competition.  Clearly state your USP (unique selling proposition).  You must be able to show them that you are not the same as all the rest.  Think about it.  Get creative.

3.  Why should they choose YOU?  If someone is going to purchase your product or service, why should they choose YOU hands down over your competitors?  There must be some value stated in your elevator speech that convinces people YOU are the one.  This could be a bold, no risk 100% Money Back Guarantee.

4.  Tell them what a good referral is for you.  Let them know EXACTLY what you are looking for in a new customer.  Make it very clear.

5.  Practice, Practice, Practice.  Then practice some more. You should be able to convincingly deliver your elevator speech at 2:00am if someone flipped on the bedroom light and asked you about your business. It needs to be automatic. It must be convincing, dynamic, and believable. The only way you can accomplish this is to PRACTICE!

Bottom line:  If you don’t have a great, repeatable elevator speech that convinces people beyond a shadow of a doubt that they should choose YOU to do business with, you are never going to reap the potential rewards of networking in your community. Get instant  Tips, Secrets and Strategies by visiting my FREE Information Site at
