Chandeliers Have Evolved To Suit Today’s Fast-Paced Lifestyles

A few decades ago , a chandelier’s light mostly referred to a standard branched candleholder; however, with new advances in technology, these lighting fixtures have become a branched electric light holder.

In olden years, these lighting pieces were used to merely light up a room. However at present, these fixtures are used more for their beauty and decorative properties. Modern home lighting fixtures are not only installed to be the main sources of light in a room, however in a lot of households these are the optional sources and turned on only occasionally.

These lovely and elegant modern lighting pieces are not only used in the kitchen or in the dining room, but also may be installed in the bedroom, living room and foyer too. Some modern chandeliers are also designed with down lights to cater especially when one is doing some paperwork or when playing table games. These newer and more innovatively-designed lights can also be found in incandescent and fluorescent light sources.

Modern Chandeliers Make For Good Decorative Pieces Too

Today’s modern home lighting fixtures, like contemporary chandeliers, are created with such innovative and beautiful designs that add style and beauty in the room by just simply hanging there.

Much attention is given to detail in the crafting and designing of these lighting pieces, as these types of lighting materials often serve as the focal point of the room. It is therefore vital that you choose the fixture’s design and craftsmanship very carefully, as this will impact the outcome of kind of light and mood you want in the room. These lighting pieces not only create a certain type of mood in the room, they also serve as a reflection of your personal style.

Modern Lighting Comes In Varied Shapes, Patterns And Made From Different Materials

Today’s modern chandelier lights are manufactured in a wide array of shapes and sizes, and are crafted from different materials. There are fixtures made from metal, and these have become very popular these days. Glass chandelier lights are also available, and these vary in pricing, depending on where you purchase these from. There are also fixtures made from glass, and come in different sizes, which will all depend on how you want the fixture to add an element of style in your room.

There are also many types of slim, trim and polished steel chandeliers, which are manufactured for today’s modern homes, and these are available in most home lighting shops. For those who want their contemporary fixture’s lights to make a lovely impact in their rooms, it’s vital to know how to properly hang these lighting pieces. – Golden Age USA

Prison Tattoos and Their Meaning

Prison tattooing is the practice of creating and displaying tattoos in a prison environment. They are often used to portray gang membership, prison status, family bonds, spiritual beliefs and are often used as a form of code and have hidden meanings. Tattooing is forbidden in most prisons and therefore is done in secret, with makeshift tattoo equipment. Within the expanding prison system, tattoos are taken seriously by the inmates and their guards alike. Tattoos obtained while locked up in prison have special significance both to the prisoners themselves as well as back on the streets.

Methods of Tattooing in Prison

There are two standard type of prison tattoo pistols, the spinner and the relay. The relay pistol is much better than the spinner rig-up and is now more widely used. An inmate breaks down his most prized possession, a radio, and removes the transistor. The thin copper wire is then removed which is wrapped around a screw which provides an automatic relay when powered up. The inmate must then somehow acquire bristles from a wire brush from maintenance, and sharpen them to provide the needle. The cylinder is made from a quality mechanical pencil and the armature bar is made with a piece of flexible pallet band and dime size magnet. The tattoo gun is then powered by the transistor of another radio. So owning one of these tattoo “pistols” is quite costly and in prison, “money” can be hard to come by.

Obviously without this equipment, the ole pick and poke method with some type of pin works too.

Prison tattoo ink recipe

Get a metal container, a cut in half soda can is best, and put baby oil and cotton into the can. You then will need a flat piece of metal that can be put over the opening of the can, without covering it. Burn the baby oil and cotton allowing the smoke to hit the metal sheet and blacken it as darkly as possible. You will then scrape all of the black powder off, and repeat. You want to use a credit card or something similar to do this, as razors and other metal scrapers might leave shards in the powder. Put your tattoo powder in a small container, a toothpaste cap is what I recommend, and fill the cap about halfway. Then add a couple drops of clear, scentless, shampoo. Stir thoroughly. Your completed ink should have a pen’s inks consistency, or maybe slightly thicker. To thin your ink, add shampoo, and to thicken it up, add more powder.

Some inmates will simply use the ink out of a pen. There are various methods of concocting an ink recipe and they have all probably been used at one time or another.

Due to the lack of proper equipment and sterile environments in prison, the tattooing in prison poses health risks, such as HIV/AIDS and Hepatitis. However, prisoners are ominously aware of this and take as many precautions as are possible given the conditions under which they are operating.

Many inmates in prison who do tattooing are very talented artists. Having quality tattooing skills is prison is a very lucrative skill to possess. Seasoned tattoo artists in prison stand a far better chance of making “money” than say the inmate who is trying to sling drugs behind the scenes. They also gain the admirable respect of other prisoners as well as the correctional officers themselves. Unlike other mind bending activities such as gossip or gang related stimuli the tattoo artist occupies his mind with skin and art.

Some Prison Tattoo Meanings in North America

Three dots arranged as a triangle – this design is most commonly found between the prisoner’s forefinger and thumb. The design stands for “mi vida loca,” which means “my crazy life.”

Teardrop tattoo – this design is worn by the eye. It indicates the wearer has killed someone or that the person had a friend killed in prison.

Shamrock – this design is worn anywhere on the body and is often found on those belonging to the Aryan Brotherhood. In this case, the shamrock often also includes the number 12, with the 1 standing for “A” and the 2 standing for “B.”

Ace of spades – Worn anywhere on the body, this design is mostly worn by those belonging to either the Aco Town or Asian Boyz gang. The A, which is often placed in the middle of the spade, is meant to symbolize Asian while the spade symbolizes thievery.

The number 13 – this tattoo indicates membership with the Mara Salvatrucha 13 gang.

The number 14 – this tattoo indicates membership with the Nuestra Familia, which is a prison gang. This gang is affiliated with the Nortenos, a street gang.

Area codes – many gang members use the area code to their neighborhood as a tattoo, though this can become outdated as area codes are changed.

Clock with no hands – most commonly placed on the upper arm, this tattoo symbolizes “doing time.”

Spider web – generally found on the elbow, this tattoo is used by white supremacists to demonstrate that they have severely injured or killed one of their “opponents.” The design is also commonly found on people that have been in prison.

Clock faces without hands – doing time

Tombstones with numbers – the years they were inside

Tombstones with numbers and RIP – mourning the death of a friend

Face of female crying – has someone on the outside waiting

SWP – supreme white power

100 % pure – pure white or anglo

Cell window with sun or bird showing – waiting to get out

Other countries such as Russia, Australia, France, UK, China and others all have prisons with inmates who bear tattoos with significant meanings. As a matter of fact, Russia and it’s former republics have a very elaborate array of tattoo meanings.

One very major point inmates consider while getting tattooed is getting caught. If an inmate gets caught getting a tattoo they are subject to a penalty of 15 days of solitary confinement. Being suspected of getting a tattoo as perhaps is indicated by the reddening of the skin where a fresh tattoo has been inked can still bring repercussions, such as being charged. But hey, if your doing life without the possibility of parole does this really concern you a whole lot?

The concept of prison tattoos is hardly a modern one. There is evidence to suggest that prisoners were tattooed as early as Egyptian times. As with many of the tattoos worn by prisoners today, these tattoos also had significant meaning. For example king or pyramid tattoos were worn by those that were very dangerous, such as assassins, head bosses, and masterminds.

Some Incredible Harleys Were Introduced From 1964 to 1966

During the years between 1964 and 1966, Harley Davidson really built some great motorcycles that had some really impressive features that consumers have continued to enjoy. The 1964 Harley-Davidson XLCH Sportster motorcycle’s impressive 883-cc V-twin engine out-powered most competitors during that era. The 1965 Harley-Davidson FL Electra-Glide motorcycle was the last Harley fitted with the venerable pan-head engine and the first big Harley with an electric start, which made this combo a highly coveted collectible. For Harley Davidson, 1965 marked the end of an era.

The Electra-Glide, with its electric starter, made its debut, but it would be the last year for the famous pan-head V-twin that was introduced in 1948. That engine had received some modifications over the years, a significant one coming in 1963 with external oil lines that improved lubrication to the cylinder heads. Along with the electric starter came the twelve-volt electrics to replace the previous six-volt system, which in turn brought a bigger battery hidden beneath a large battery case on the right side. That, along with the bold “Electra Glide” script on the front fender, makes it easy to distinguish this model from earlier FLs.

Some Electra-Glides had the standard exhaust system that had both cylinders exhausting to the right into a single muffler. This was optional as a dual-muffler system where the exhaust from the front cylinder exited to the right, while that from the rear cylinder exited to the left, both terminating in their own distinctive “fishtail” muffler. Also optional was the old hand-shift and foot-clutch arrangement that was so popular with police departments. Though a curb weight of more than seven hundred pounds restricted performance somewhat, the Electra-Glide was a popular touring mount in its day, as the electric starter alleviated the problem of having to kick start the big V-twin, which had become no easy task.

The 1966 Harley-Davidson FLH Electra-Glide motorcycle’s smoother-running, more powerful shovel-head engine replaced the pan-head engine, which gave this motorcycle sixty horsepower. In 1965, Harley-Davidson introduced an electric-start version of the big FL series, dubbing it the Electra-Glide, which was still powered by the pan-head engine. This big Harley was now carrying not only the additional weight of the inevitable factory and owner installed accessories, which made it more plentiful by a switch from six-volt electrics to twelve volt, but also the pounds added by the new starting hardware.

Although the pan-head engine had served well during its lengthy tenure, owners were begging for more power. For 1966, Harley released an updated version of the 74-cubic-inch V-twin by mating new aluminum shovel-head cylinder heads to the iron barrels, horsepower increased by five. The smoother, running, more powerful shovel-head engine was a welcome relief. The weight of the FLs had crept up to nearly eight hundred pounds, and the extra power was appreciated by owners. Yet, despite the greater power and escalating heft, FLs were still slowed by drum brakes front and rear; it would not be until 1972 that a front disc would appear.

Are Electric Cookers Safer Than Gas Cookers?

There has been a raging debate on whether electric cookers are actually safer than gas cookers. Both are now an integral part of many kitchens in most continents although coal is also used in remote places and in some countries which are considered Third World. Both gas and electric cookers have revolutionized the way we cook and bake and this has contributed to the great variety of modern foods that we enjoy and which could never have been possible if these two were not around. Both gas and electric cookers constitute of freestanding stoves and ovens which usually have three, four or six heating surfaces. These surfaces are where the cooking pots or utensils are placed and heated. When it comes to appearance, electric cookers and gas cookers share a lot. They both have surfaces on top and they also have control knobs or buttons which are used to regulate the heat. They also both come with in-built ovens which can also be easily regulated to bake.

Gas cookers are actually preferred to electric cookers by culinary professionals who site the flame produced as being more conducive to precision cooking than the electric surfaces. Gas cookers come in many sizes. They even come in small flat portable units which can be easily transported from place to place. In the Third World countries, these portable gas cookers are widely used. The gas comes in the form of a gas cylinder which can be sold separately. There is then a place to attach the gas cylinder to the actual cooker and the burner can be lit with a match or a lighter. This has been the predominant way of cooking for decades.

In the West, gas cookers are larger and more innovative, spotting precision temperature controls and safety valves. The gas is pumped through a network of underground pipes which are maintained by a gas utility company in much the same way as water or electricity is done. The gas utility company can disconnect the gas the same way as the power company can in the event that the customer falls behind on their bill.

Electric cookers on the other hand use primarily electricity. They also contain surfaces where the electricity transmits the heat and the surface increased in heat gradually until it is hot enough to cook or warm something. Electric cookers have been deemed safer than gas cookers. This is because gas is highly flammable and if someone was to accidentally turn on the gas and leave it on it can leak into the atmosphere where it can explode if someone does as little as light a cigarette. This has been the cause of many deaths and property damage in many places.

Electric cookers on the other hand does not pose this threat. If someone was to leave the electric cooker on accidentally, the only thing that would happen would be a waste of power and the fact that the surface would remain hot to the extent that it would warm the immediate area. But the threat of fire is minimal.

Tradewinds Evaporative Coolers

Millions of Americans use evaporative cooling rather than air conditioning to cool their homes. There are quite a few cooler manufacturers to choose from. The most common coolers are made of sheet metal materials. Even though the metal has a galvanized coating and then is painted, the water mixed with a high concentration of minerals eats away at the metal. Usually within the first few years rusting begins to deteriorate the metal water pan and side panels. Years ago when the paints contained lead the coolers would last longer. Now it seems that most Evaporative Coolers, or Swamp Coolers as some call them, only last about five to seven years. Often times by this point the side panels and water pan has rusted beyond use. What can a person do? Change materials!

With some products plastic has been used to substitute for formally metal products. This is sometimes the case with car bumpers or many other items. With a five mile per hour bump, the bumper crunches and has to be replaced. But with a product like an Evaporative Cooler, when rusting due to water contacting it is the largest problem, plastic is the perfect choice. But who makes a plastic Swamp Cooler?

Check out Tradewinds Coolers. They have an attractive low profile cabinet design for residential use. But more important they are made of a superior material – Polypropylene. Plastics and PVC products are greatly affected by the UV rays in sunlight. After several years they become brittle and crack or break easily. Polypropylene is resistant to sunlight and will last for many years. Even better the water and minerals that deteriorate metal coolers do not affect the Tradewinds Coolers.

Tradewinds Coolers come in down draft models and side draft models. The Tradewinds TC451 is a down draft model that delivers 4500 CFM and will cool up to 1200 square feet of living space. The side draft model is Tradewinds TS451 and delivers the same 4500 CFM. For a larger model you can choose the Tradewinds TC571 which delivers 6000 CFM and will cool up to 1800 square feet. For the side draft model of this cooler you will need the Tradewinds TS571 unit.

Most people that have used the Tradewinds Evaporative Coolers will never go back to the old rusting metal type of coolers. I have noticed that Tradewinds Coolers are usually not found in most hardware and do it yourself stores. You can find them these coolers online by either going to Google or Yahoo and typing in “Swamp Coolers Online” or you can type in Tradewinds and the model that you choose. Either way will bring up a number of dealers that sell these quality units. One of these dealers only charges the same price for delivery that you would normally pay for sales tax. Since you are buying from out of state you do not pay sales tax. This way you can have the Cooler delivered to your home for the same price that you would pay to drive and pick it up. I hope this article will give you some ideas to think about the next time that you go shopping for an Evaporative Cooler.

Reasons Why Plank Exercises Are Great

Some of the best exercises are the least complicated, and plank exercises I think fall into that category. These have recently become an important part of my exercise routine because they are great for core conditioning. In fact, they may look too easy to be beneficial, but especially if you have irritation in the lower back this exercise might be your answer. But it also gives the hamstrings, glutes and shoulders a good workout, and will support proper posture and improved balance.

It should be noted, however that there are some common mistakes made when people do planks, and perhaps even more so than most exercises doing improperly could lead to injury. These exercises will tax the upper and lower regions of the spine. If these areas are weak it will normally cause the spine to sway. This can put compression pressure in the vertebrae and can cause back injuries. It is important especially when starting out, to know just where your limits are and not to exceed them. If you feel any pain in the back area, don’t push it, but work your time up little by little.

Besides trying to hold the position for too long, other common faults are placing the hands too close together, allowing the hips and head to drop, and holding your breath. And what should your goal be? You are considered to be fairly fit in the core area if you can hold the abdominal plank position for at least two minutes. But again, you should build up to that point slowly.

That said, here are some reasons why you should be looking to plank exercises as part of your fitness program

1. Posture and balance improvement. By merely staying in the plank position for the period of time requires you to work on your balance. This can be enhanced further by doing planks on a BOSU ball, or by doing side planks. If we do lose our balance and posture position as we age, it is normally because of the weakening in the core area. Planks are great for this.

2. Alleviates back pain. Whatever you do to strengthen your core area is probably going to make your lower back stronger. The reason is because plank exercises require minimal movement while contracting all the layers of the abdominals.

3. Tones the stomach region. These exercises will be in our core muscles of the belly area. This is the foundation of the outer abdominals, or six-pack abs. This will be helped further by pulling in the area of your belly button, which will contract those deep inner transverse abdominal muscles.

4. Builds flexibility. The first time get into the plank position you will probably feel how the body becomes stretched. Not only in your posterior muscles but also in the shoulder area, the hamstrings and even the arches of your feet down to your toes. Plank exercises are a natural for stretching the body.

5. Mood enhancement. All of the above reasons for doing planks will help to improve a person’s mood. Stretching and releasing the tension from muscles throughout the body are going to invigorate anyone who does these wonderful exercise routines.

A Treatment Plan For Panic Disorder – Six Areas

Even in the face of an immediate danger, the kind of fear that best serves to ensure the survival and well-being of the endangered is not panic. Panic is a dysfunctional, out-of-control sort of fear. Panic is something one wants to take off and throw away, so to speak. If panic is a recurring problem, some call it a disorder.

A treatment plan for a panic disorder assumes as here that a panic disorder has correctly been diagnosed, though if that is not the case, a diagnosis is in order. For one thing, a panic disorder may accompany other issues that need to be addressed, such as agoraphobia. Agoraphobia is shown typically when one is so bound by fear that one avoids shopping or going outside one’s home or something similar.

In other words, a treatment plan ideally should address case-specific problems and underlying causes. Nevertheless, some principles and practices exist which are broadly applicable. At this point, temporary symptom relief through prescription drugs or herbal or homeopathic remedies may come to mind. Indeed, drugs and herbs are sometimes used long term for sufferers of panic. But a treatment plan ideally focuses on eventually shedding temporary fixes and mere symptom relief. Drugs can have their unpleasant side effects. Replacing symptom relief with treating the causes of panic is a preferred long term solution, and one closer to what may be called a “plan.”

But to follow such a plan requires motive and discipline. There are panic disorder sufferers who prefer their present condition, for example, to the consequences of restoration to a peaceful and balanced emotional state. Or they lack sufficient motivation. And even for those with some motivation and discipline, some helpful steps may be difficult. It may be easier to fall into a hole than to climb out.

But climbing out is possible. Given sufficient motive and discipline, a panic disorder or panic attack sufferer may incorporate the following more generally applicable principles and practices into a treatment plan. These may be used in conjunction with professional help too.

I. Deep Breathing Exercises

Hyperventilation is common among panic attack sufferers and it contributes to bodily sensations we associate with panic. Deep, abdominal breathing cuts the contribution to fear symptoms from hyperventilation and serves to calm the brain.

Daily practice of deep, slow abdominal breathing over a period of several weeks is preferred in order to make the practice second nature. This makes it easier to practice well at the onset of a panic attack or when experiencing heightened anxiety.

Set apart two to four regular times during the day to practice deep and slow breathing for several minutes each session. When the practice is sustained for several weeks, it often comprises one of the most helpful exercises for panic attacks, although it seems simple.

II. Rethinking the irrational

Panic sufferers can be driven by irrational fears about their own bodily symptoms and/or by irrational fears from a difficult past. Recognizing what those irrational fears are will recruit the conscious mind in the fight to recapture runaway fears. Younger children may especially need help in distinguishing irrational thoughts.

III. Keeping a journal

A journal of panic and emotional difficulty is not meant to be used to rehearse fears and failures. That would be self-defeating. But writing in a journal is a way to discipline and organize thoughts. And the practice can contribute to catharsis. This can be used to expose and identify one’s own unbalanced thinking and over time provide a basis for longer term goals.

A journal can help us identify what we fear: loss, threat, separation from a loved one or happy environment, shame, what we were taught to fear as young children, and so on. Each cause can then be more clearly addressed.

Over time, a journal can show encouraging progress.

IV. Repeating victory, de-emphasizing defeat

Retraining your sub-conscious mind takes time and effort. Recognizing and rehearsing successes strengthens the pathways in the brain that tell the subconscious mind to keep calm. This may come in the form of a trip to the store or facing some idea or a victory over any condition in which one feels anxious for no reasonable cause. At the same time, suppressing rehearsal of negative thoughts lessens the synapse pathways tied to fear.

Writing and repeating “I can” and “I feel fine” kinds of affirmations helps train the subconscious. Avoid “I don’t feel afraid,” “I did not panic” and negative expressions of victory since the subconscious mind may overlook the negative (“not”) and thus affirm the fear.

V. Regular Exercise

Regular exercise helps elevate mood, to say nothing of reducing stresses that a sedentary life brings to bear. Making exercise regular also takes motivation and discipline. Plan times during the week for exercise (and consult your doctor).

VI. Make the decisions that need to be made.

Our panic can be based in part on fear associated with one or more decisions that need to be made. Progress in overcoming panic attacks may need to take place first, but often relief from stress occurs after the difficult, but necessary decision is made and appropriate action taken.

Or one may need to make a decision that may not cause anxiety, perhaps like switching medications to one that does not contribute to your feeling anxious, or stopping the consumption of alcohol, sugar, or a food to which one has a sensitivity or allergy.

Design the Perfect Professional Porch Railings

It is possible to create almost any look you are after when it comes to porch railings, and whilst some people may prefer to have a simple, modern homely look, others prefer a more professional one. So just how do you create the perfect professional porch railings?

Creating the Right Professional Railings for Your Porch

First of all, professional railings need professional installation so if you are planning to install them yourself; you really need to know what you are doing. Creating a proper plan of action and preparing everything beforehand is essential if you want to do things properly.

You will need various different parts to create a professional look. So, you will need:

o Balusters

o Finials

o Rails

o Posts

You will need the above for both the top and bottom parts of the railings. If you do not have the right equipment you can easily find it at a lumberyard or even online from the comfort of your own home. Once you do have the right parts, planning is essential and generally what you need to do is to measure the area that the railings will be placed. This will give you an estimation of the amount of equipment you will need. Overall a porch railing plan is essential if you want to get it right.

What Professional Porch Railings Generally Look Like

When you think of professional railings, it may be hard to get a picture in your head of what they actually look like. However, usually most people consider professional to be contemporary and something which adds a little touch of elegance to the home and garden. They will usually have some kind of detail to them such as a flower pattern in order to make the house look a little more homely, whilst keeping the professionalism present at all times.

Once you have your porch railing plan you will be able to decide upon which design you would prefer. There are hundreds to choose form and you can also select from different materials. Wooden railings can be used to create a professional look but overall iron railings are generally better, especially wrought iron railings.

Finally professional railings tend to be installed properly so this is where your porch railing plan will come in. You need to follow it to the last letter and ensure that everything fits properly and there are no overhangs or uneven surfaces etc. If you follow the steps mentioned you should end up with professional looking results!

Santa Outfits Sure To Delight The Kids

Relatives of ours live in a big old arts and crafts style house, with dark wood paneling, a large hall, a carved stairway balustrade and a big stone fireplace. It’s a bit dark inside for my taste, but when it is decorated up for Christmas each year it somehow becomes a magical place. They have a tall and heavily decorated Christmas tree in the hall, and lots of extra twinkling lights around the stairs and along the old-style picture rails and panels. With the fire going and the main lights dimmed, it is a scene right out of a one of those traditional Victorian Christmas cards.

Their home has become a focal point for Christmas celebrations for their family and close friends. Early on Christmas morning it has become a tradition that several families gather there and stack their Christmas gifts under the tree to make an impressive colorful pile. We all stay on for a Christmas morning brunch around the fire before thoughts turn to the preparations for Christmas dinner. The highlight of the morning, of course, is the opening of the presents.

A few years ago one of the granddads was persuaded to dress up as Santa in a Santa suit to hand out the Christmas presents from under the Christmas tree. He chose a traditional red velvet Santa outfit, with white trimmings, a large white beard, a broad black belt and black boots. It was bought ready made, and was excellent quality for a very affordable price. He has a little hand bell as well, to call everyone to attention. He kind of looked like a jovial Father Christmas even without a Santa costume, and carried the role off brilliantly to the great delight of all the kids. Having Santa Claus himself hand out the Christmas gifts added enormously to the pleasure to be seen on the faces of the children. A very realistic Father Christmas as the focus of attention made the Christmas morning gathering a very special annual event that everyone looked forward to for weeks ahead.

The Christmas costume idea was such a hit that everybody now at least wears a Christmas hat of some kind, mostly Santa hats in various styles, elf caps with big ears or reindeer antlers. There have been a few variations from these traditional themes, like the occasional Grinch from the Dr Seuss books and the movie, or Jack Skellington from the Nightmare Before Christmas movie. Even the family pet has his Santa dog hat.

Last year, one of the younger mothers who helps Santa sort through the gifts arrived in a very fetching sexy Christmas costume in red and white. There has been much speculation among the menfolk as to whether this new fashion will inspire the other Moms to join her this year.

The granddad has so enjoyed being a Santa he has also worn his Santa costume to help out with a children’s hospital visit and has a couple of other community Christmas activities scheduled before Christmas as well.

Many people will see the many pipes that crawl along a wall of a building that they may be entering and use them as a sort of banister. This would not be advisable if those pipes were not coated with Steam Pipe Insulation. There are many homes as well as businesses that use steam heat in order to heat their buildings. This type of heating units will make the pipes very hot to the touch. You’re not only needing this type of insulation, so there is no escape of heat but also for the safety of people or workers that may be by those pipes everyday.

We all have seen those movies on television that like to give an eerie atmosphere in their scene by having the steam pipes bursting out with hot steam. This may be great for the show or movie, but that building that they are attached to, is losing a lot of money with all the steam that they are losing. There are many manufacturers as well as suppliers of this type of piping insulation that you can find on the Internet. A popular supplier is State Supply SSC. They are a major distributor of Steam Pipe Insulation.

If you visit their website, you will see that they have basically everything that you need in order to insulate your steam heated pipes. Their Steam Pipe Insulation is very easy to order and install. Their insulation comes in various sizes so you will be assured to find the right size for the pipes that you may have. You can get this insulation in 1/2″ size up to 6″. You will find that the thickness of the insulation will be 1″. The website will also show you how it works and how it is installed as well.

When you are ordering your Steam Pipe Insulation, you just need to know how much piping you have as well as how many tees and elbows you have to cover. You will usually get pre-cut fiberglass coverings in order to place on your pipes. Then you will cover that up with PVC fittings in order to take away the danger of a pipe being too hot for anyone to touch. There are many people in industries that work around these types of pipes daily. Businesses need to make sure that they are safe as the same time that they will be saving money on their energy costs.

How To Wire A 3 Way Switch Without The Headache

Ok, the first and most important thing to do is, make sure there is no power on the wires you are dealing with. Check it with your meter to be sure. It is also a good idea to check your meter on a circuit that you know is hot(to verify it is working properly). When you finish your basement or finish that garage off you will be happy that you put that 3-way switch in instead of a single switch.

To get started you have to have one of the switches and your ohm meter. Make sure the meter is set to ohms. It may just have a symbol that looks like a fat horseshoe to mark ohms. You need to find the common lead(screw). The common is sometimes but not always indicated by a different color screw. Take your meter and touch one lead to one screw and the other lead to another screw. If your reading changes from OL to a small number like, 0.1 to 3.0 you have a circuit. Then with the meter leads on the same screws flip the switch and make sure the meter changes to OL. Knowing this you need to find the 2 screws that have no circuit between them(no matter the position of the switch you always read (OL) or no circuit (–) with the meter). The 2 screws with no circuit possible are the travelers. The other screw is the common and will be the one connected to your power on one switch and it will be the one taking power to the light(s) on the other switch.

Lets go over what we know so far:

1) Turn the power off

2) Find the common screw on both switches

3) Find the 2 traveler screws on both switches

4) Determine what switch receives power

5) Determine what switch feeds power to the light(s)

Now your ready to install. Plain and simple 2 wires that are connected to nothing else must run from the 2 traveler screws on on switch to the 2 traveler screws on the other switch. Please make sure if your using a piece of romex wire for travelers you put black tape on the end of the white wire at both switches. This lets you know power may be present. All that is left is to connect the power to the common on one switch and the power going to the light(s) on the other switch.

In the switch box feeding the light(s) the neutral will be capped off. In the switch box receiving power the neutral will be connected only to the neutral going to the light(s). Make sure that the white wire(neutral) that is with the black wire feeding power to the switch is connected to the light(s). The light or lights in the circuit will be the only place the neutral is used.

There you have it. Yes it really is that simple.

Brainwave Entrainment In Delta Wave May Stop The Symptoms Of Some Disorders

Brainwave entrainment is a technological method that introduces specific audio stimulus to the brain with the intention of altering its frequency to match that of the entrainment. Delta brainwave frequency is associated with the unconscious and deep, slow brain activity found in deep sleep.

The introduction of delta brainwave will help you enjoy the benefits of this restorative frequency.

At the delta level, the body replenishes its energy, releases anti-aging hormones, relieves stress, boosts the immune system, and heals illnesses and injuries. The delta state rejuvenates your mind, body, and spirit. When in a deep sleep, your body is resetting its internal clock.

Without enough deep, restorative sleep, you age faster, are depressed, overweight, are under-productive, and become sick more often.

Many health problems are connected to not getting enough rejuvenating delta wave activity.

Disorders Associated With Disrupted Delta

· Irregular delta wave activity has been detected in patients with ischemic brain diseases.

· Parasomnias: sleep walking, and sleep talking, sleep terrors and confusional arousals show disruptions in slow wave sleep.

· Sleep deprivation increases irregular delta activity. It takes a while to balance the cycle after deprivation.

· Parkinson’s disease; sleep disturbances in patients with Parkinson’s show disrupted brain wave activity during delta. Drugs that induce deep sleep help significantly to improve symptoms.

· Schizophrenia; people suffering with Schizophrenia show disrupted EEG patterns and there is a close association between reduced delta wave during deep sleep and negative symptoms. During sleep, schizophrenics are not producing the deep, slow wave needed to restore the body, but during the day, when awake, there is evidence that they are producing the delta wave. When they are in delta wave, while awake, their symptoms can be severe. A recent study shows that schizophrenics have an absence of delta wave dominance in the right frontal lobe and that the usual changes in delta associated with aging, are not observed.

· Diabetes, Type II; disruptions in slow wave sleep have been shown to increase risk of developing Type II diabetes due to the disruption of the secretion of the human growth hormone secreted by the pituitary in delta frequency.

· Fibromyalgia; patients suffering from fibromyalgia report not sleeping well. Studies show that sleep in the 3rd and 4th stages, are disrupted with Alpha waves, a faster wave, not allowing the release of opiates that stop musculoskeletal pain and fatigue.

· Alcoholism; alcohol decreases slow wave activity while increasing REM. In long-term abuse of alcohol, influences of alcohol on the brain, changes the sleep structure of the individual, that may not go away after abstinence.

· Depression; could be from lack of serotonin, and human growth hormone release.

· Anxiety; if the brain is in a constant state of anxiety, it will make neural networks to reflect a chronic anxiety state.

· Obsessive-compulsive disorder.

· Attention deficit disorder (ADD)/attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).

· Juvenile chronic arthritis; the immune system is compromised if delta wave is disrupted allowing for auto-immune disorders to develop.

Delta brainwave entrainment can help you achieve deep relaxation and sleep. Entrainment can be used as an effective sleep aid and can enable you to experience all the benefits of a deep sleep, while requiring less effort on your part to achieve this state. There are significant health benefits associated with this slow brainwave frequency, some of which may improve the symptoms of certain disorders.

What Are Architectural Landscape Photos?

There aren’t many but some of us take an interest in architectural landscape photos. With a view to giving some insight on this subject I have created this article to give a basic understanding and supply some facts about its origins. Some of us become interested in architectural landscape photos later in life, it doesn’t matter when you take an interest but when you do you’ll be hooked.

If taking architectural landscape photos is one of your hobbies, it might be interesting for you to read a brief history of architectural photography. Commercial portraiture was the main area of interest in the early years of photography. The ones who made architectural landscape photos were generally travelers, for different business reasons, not only especially for photography. At that time (the middle of the 19th century), photographers usually worked from a convenient window rather than at street level, as they do now.

WHF Talbot, one of the first photographers, used to take architectural landscape photos from his hotel window, in the cities he visited. Roger Fenton, the first war photographer was the first one to take fine architectural studies, using calotypes, both in Britain, his home country, and in Russia (in Kiev, Moscow and St. Petersburg). He learnt the waxed paper calotype process from Gustave Le Grey, its inventor, in his journeys to Paris.

Francis Frith was the first one to make the Middle East familiar to the civilized world, by the architectural landscape photos he took in his journeys. He beard with him very large cameras and used the collodion process, as he had to work in hot and dusty conditions.

Samuel Bourne is another British photographer that became famous for his work in India.

Most of the early architectural landscape photos give the subjects the impression of import and grandeur. The lenses needed for architecture were quite different from the ones used in portraiture. They had to give sharpness and linear drawing, but there was no need for high speed, as buildings sit still.

In the late 19th century, photographers were advised to keep the camera back vertical and to photograph buildings from the normal eye level, instead of using elevated viewpoints, in order to suggest the normal impression of height. The frontage and a side of the building had to be both included in the architectural landscape photo. Camera movements were also considered essential, and the most important movement was the rising front.

Frederick H. Evans is regarded as the finest architectural photographer of his era. He is famous for his images of the exteriors and interiors of English and French medieval cathedrals. He adopted the platinotype technique, which best suited his subject matter. His ideal regarding architectural landscape photos was the “perfect” photographic representation, unretouched and not modified at all.

The city growth at the end of the 19th century lead to the development of commercial architectural landscape photography. The most important companies that took advantage on this new opportunity, in New York, were the Byron Company and the company founded by Norman and Lionel Wurts.

In the beginning of the 20th century, the modern movement brought new standards, both in architecture and photography. Some of the new modernist photographers in 1920s were Berenice Abbott in New York, Ilse Bing in Frankfurt and Margaret Bourke-White, best known as a photojournalist. One of the best-regarded companies that made architectural landscape photos was Hedrich-Blessing. It was founded in Chicago in 1929 by Ken Hedrich and Henry Blessing. Today, Jim Hedrich, Ken’s son still runs the firm. The founder’s well-known quote “Don’t make photographs, think them.” suggests that their photos had something to say about the building, not only record an image of it.

Although he was an architect by profession, Ezra Stoller established himself as a leading architectural photographer. Some of his most important works are the architectural landscape photos of Le Corbusier’s Chapel Notre-Dame-du-Haut at Ronchamp. The key elements in Stoller’s work are light and space. Esto, the company founded by Stoller still makes some of the best work in the field.

Julius Shulman took a revolutionary approach upon modernism, turning the modernist principle upside down. He was the first one to introduce people in the frame of the camera. He did not want to show abstract images of wall details or empty rooms. In his architectural landscape photos, he “humanized” the houses designed by architects such as Richard Neutra, Pierre Koenig or Rudolf Schindler. Shulman is best known for his photograph “Case Study House #22, Los Angeles, 1960. Pierre Koenig, Architect”. The end of modernism also represented the end of Shulman’s career, as his ideas of composition, the sensitive images and his ways of working were deeply modernistic.

Some of the most important contemporary architectural photographs are Gerald Zugmann, Mark Citret and Richard Margolis. You can take a look at their architectural landscape photos on their web sites.
