Mosaic Tile Backsplash – How to Create a Mosaic Kitchen Backsplash

A mosaic kitchen backlash is a great way to liven up your kitchen. If you want to create the backsplash on a budget you can use Different recycled materials such as broken china plates from garage sales or recycled glass tiles. Whichever materials you choose make sure the color corresponds with the overall theme of the kitchen. You should also consider the long-term effect because once installed the backsplash is permanent. This also means that creating mosaic tile backsplash in an apartment kitchen may be a waste because you may not be staying there permanently.

Creating a mosaic kitchen backsplash is a moderately difficult task, which you can undertake yourself. To be successful you should prepare the items you need before beginning the task. These include ceramic tiles, cardboard pieces to create a template, tile adhesive, sponge towel and grout. You will also need some tools such as a trowel, power drill, tile snips, pencil with eraser and tape measure. To start, measure the kitchen backsplash and transfer these measurements to a cardboard piece. The cardboard should then be cut and then placed on the backsplash area making sure it fits perfectly. Since you are creating a mosaic backsplash, you should cut the ceramic tiles into smaller even sized pieces.

Place the template cardboard on the floor and arrange the tile pieces a one fourth.” apart in any pattern that corresponds to your kitchen decor. The pattern will guide you when you glue the pieces on the backsplash. You can now clean the backsplash surface to remove dirt grime and dust in preparation for the gluing. Repeating the same pattern on the template, stick the tile pieces using tile adhesive. To make sure the tiles are stuck properly, wait 24 hours before applying the grout. The grout should be mixed until smooth with the cement mixer then spread over the tile pieces with the grout float. After fifteen minutes, wipe grout from the tile surfaces leaving the other to settle completing your mosaic tile backsplash.

Tile Installation

OK, here is a crash course in bathroom tile installation. I want to warn you its not going to be easy, so get ready for some blood, sweat, and tears.

Having proper tools and materials are key to any professional tile installation, if you do not have these things, then don’t do the job.

Tools:

– Wet Saw

– Angle Grinder

– Tile Cutter

– Door Jamb Saw

– Tile Nips

– Grout Removal Tool

– Diamond Sand Paper

– Tape Measure

– Speed Square

– Bevel Gage

– Pencil

– Utility Knife

– Caulk Box

– Skill Saw w/ Diamond Blade

– 1/4″ Thin Set Trowel

– Grout Trowel

– Sponge

– 5 Gallon Buckets

Materials:

– Tile

– Durarock

– Tile Spacers

– Thin Set

– Grout

Step 1: Tear Out Old flooring

Different types of flooring require different types of tear out applications, but lets just say you have vinyl flooring. If the vinyl is glued down you will need a floor scraper. Remove every bit of vinyl flooring and debris, make sure the flooring is spotless.

Step 2: Sub Floor Preparation

After the vinyl is gone go ahead and check the sub-flooring for any loose/squeaky areas. Secure down these areas, or just screw the whole floor to be 100% sure. Check the flooring for any uneven spots with a level, if there are humps/dips these will need to be leveled/floated with liquid floor leveler. Sweep the floor again, keeping your work area clean is important.

Step 3: Durarock Installation

Cut and fit all of your durarock, then number each piece, and remove. Sweep the flooring again, and make sure your area is debris free. Mix up your thin set to the right consistency, not to thin, and not to thick. Trowel down your thin set in sections, install durarock, screw down, and head toward your exit.

Step 4: Tile Installation

First mark your room center and chalk lines, this will help you keep straight and even. Cut door jambs so tiles can slide underneath the door jambs. Cut and dry fit your tile pieces where necessary. Mix up your thin-set, trowel down thin-set, and start installing tiles. Make sure to use spacers, as this will help stop your tiles from moving.

Step 5: Grout Installation

Mix grout to right consistency and install with grout trowel. Work the grout back and forth to make sure the spaces between the tile are filled. Work your grout in sections and clean with sponge.

How to Avoid a Contracted Painter Scam

In a perfect world, quality of work would be the only consideration in hiring a contractor to paint your home. Sadly, we do not live in that perfect world, and it is imperative that you protect yourself against fraud. The kindest, most charming individual could very well be a bad guy trying to scam you. Fortunately, there are some smart tricks and practices you can use to prevent yourself from being a victim.

Before a contracted painter can operate, he or she must be properly licensed (where applicable) and must be verified as a business with the state in which they do business. You can find this information on your state’s department of labor website. Depending on your state’s laws, the painter may or may not be required to have a license, so be sure to verify the law on that before performing your search. By verifying the painter as a business, you will know if the company exists legally and whether it is active. If you find that one of these criterion is not valid, it’s a red flag for possible fraud.

Even if a contracted painter seems to be operating a business legally, there may be unfavorable incidents in their past that you would want to know about. Many people find it necessary to perform background checks on any type of contractor before hiring them. Again, depending on what state you live in, the laws may vary on the extent to which one’s personal or criminal background may be searched. Still, some find it safer to know as much as possible about the individuals who will be in their home and be paid large sums of money. The Better Business Bureau is also effective for finding information on a business. There could be hidden information about the contractor that will save you the danger of a scam.

The good news is that there are many signs that you can watch for that may tip you off to a scam artist. For example, it is never wise to hire someone who solicits from door-to-door. This method of advertising, as well as discounts for friend referrals, probably means that their operation is not the least bit legitimate. Likewise, if a business is not listed in the phonebook or does not appear in a search engine, their background may be questionable. Also, when negotiating prices, a surprisingly low quote could mean bad news. It’s still true that you get what you pay for. Payment arrangements are usually a helpful sign as well. If the contractor requires the entire payment up front or accepts cash only, you may want to continue on your search. A valid business has the proper financial channels in place to operate its business.

An exciting home painting project can quickly turn into heartbreak and financial devastation if one is susceptible to a scam artist. It’s simply not enough to trust the word of a potential contracted painter. You’ll thank yourself later for playing it safe by exercising caution now.

Unique Candle Chandeliers for Your Home

There’s nothing quite like a candle chandelier to set the perfect backdrop to any occasion. Whether you are entertaining guests, curling up with a good book, or spending time with that special someone, a candle chandelier exudes romantic charm and provides an intimate atmosphere that is impossible to ignore. A candle chandelier truly represents the perfect compromise between form and function, and more people are being introduced to these marvels of interior design everyday. If you’ve ever considered unique candle chandeliers for your home, the following article should give you a better understanding of these decadent decorations, as well as provide you with the tips you need to make a smart buying decision.

While most of us have surely seen similar candle chandeliers featured in movies and print (the large fancy type with what seem to be hundreds of candles flickering in unison), the modern candle chandelier has many different faces. In fact, many unique candle chandeliers for your home do not contain candles at all! These candle chandeliers actually contain “faux” candles (designs similar to a candle, but with a bulb providing the light source). But make no mistake: these chandeliers still work to turn any room in your home into a comfortable and inviting space. In addition, these chandeliers can be made using a variety of metals that cost a fraction of true candle holder designs.

If you think you might prefer a real candle chandelier (and who could blame you?), you will face a wide selection of outstanding designs to suit any taste. Arguably the most beautiful of all candle chandeliers are those made of glass or crystal. However, these require a great deal of maintenance and attention to ensure that the candles do not tarnish the beauty of the piece. (It should be noted here that candle wax should be cleaned from any holder, regardless of type). Another consideration of these elegant chandeliers is that they tend to be more expensive than those made of metals (bronze, wrought iron, etc.), but they certainly add an amazing effect to any room in your home.

There are also other things to consider when searching for unique candle chandeliers for your home. For instance, candle chandeliers come in a variety of shapes and styles, ranging from elegant to contemporary. The overall look and feel of your home will probably be your best guide when picking out a candle chandelier. You will also need to think about how many arms you want in a candle chandelier, and just how decorative you want them to be. Naturally, chandeliers with a large number of arms, and those with more detailed designs will tend to fetch higher prices.

As you can see, there are several options available when considering unique candle chandeliers for your home. Regardless of the candle chandelier you finally decide on, the piece is sure to grace any room in the home with a touch of elegance and class that you probably never even realized was missing.

2 Ways to Safely Transplant Rose Bushes of Any Age

You will occasionally want to move a rose bush from one

location to another, but fear shocking the bush too much and

having it die. However, here are two effective ways to

minimize the shock to the bush so you can successfully move

it to another, more suitable place in your flower garden.

The first, and simpler way, is by driving a spade down

vertically to its full length of blade about twelve or

fifteen inches from the bush and repeating the process in a

circular form until all lateral roots have been cut. This

should be done in June or early July and the bush should be

moved two or three weeks later.

Dig a sloping hole leading to the vertical spade-cuts on one

side, remove some of the surface soil round the bush to

reduce weight, drive the spade under the plant, and gently

lift it in a ball of earth. The ball can be made more

adherent by wetting and dabbing the outside of it. Slide it

into its new hole by way of another sloping cut, fill the

spaces round the ball with friable soil and water it

heavily. The bush must be pruned and all leaves carefully

clipped off to reduce loss of moisture and consequent

shrivelling.

You see, by cutting any strong root at a reasonable distance

from a plant, it forces the growth of many smaller ones of

the feeding type. Roots feed only through their terminal

points, and so the greater the number of small fibrous roots

the better a bush can feed from the soil.

The second, and less simple way, is to prepare the rose for

the move by digging a trench in early spring in a semicircle

round the bush at a radius of a foot, or slightly more, from

the stem, depending on the size of the plant. This will cut

the roots in that part. Fill the trench with loam that is of

good quality but does not contain fermenting manure of any

type. A network of fibrous secondary roots will form and

permeate the rich new soil. After three months, about

Christmas time, complete the circle in a similar manner. In

the autumn, about four months later, the bush can be lifted

with a good ball of earth held together by a mass of fibrous

roots.

The rose bush has been safely root-pruned in either method

of transplanting, and will reduce shock ensuring the plants

survival. You may be wondering why you would need to use

that second, more involved method, when the first method is

so simple. Well, the only time it is necessary is when

moving a very large old rose plant.

So now you have 2 great methods for successfully

transplanting rose bushes. Although you don’t want to do it

very often, feel free to get your flower garden just the way

you want it! Happy planting.

Why Build a Gravel Driveway?

Gravel is a low-cost solution to building a driveway. They can function as permanent driveway, and they are inexpensive to maintain. After determining whether a gravel driveway is the right paving solution, planning and a tape measure, shovel, scalpings, a vibrating plate, and gravel are all you need to create a stunning visual entrance to your home.

Driveway solutions such as concrete or asphalt are boring. Gravel, on the other hand, does not have to be so monotonous. Stones in various shades of red, grey, and tan are available. The driveway is the first impression on a house, and vibrant gravel stones can make a bold statement.

If concrete is not laid properly in the first place, it is hard to correct. Asphalt is messy and hard to lie as well. Gravel, however, can be altered, changed, or corrected throughout its lifespan. Maintenance of gravel is far easier, as you can smooth over or add more as time goes by, depending on the usage or the needs of the driveway.

As with any major construction project, it is important to prepare properly for the creation of a gravel driveway. First, think about the purpose of the road that will be graveled. Who or what will be using it? If the driveway will be receiving heavy or frequent traffic from cars and other vehicles, then it will need to be deep enough for the additional use. On the other hand, a road that will be receiving mostly foot traffic can stay shallow.

There are right and wrong types of gravel to use for driveway construction. The last thing to consider when determining if gravel is the right driveway solution for a home is the type of gravel that will be used. Round stones will slide out of place easily and will require regular maintenance. Angular stones are better for driveways because they lock together and reduce movement. They also create the crunch sound under the weight of car tires that is associated with driveways made of gravel.

Garden centers and stone dealers can help you determine what stones are available and what works best in a given area. The Internet also offers do-it-yourself guides and specific instructions and recommendations by people who have successfully created a gravel driveway. Leveling the road properly and choosing the right stone is all it takes to make a statement that impresses visitors as they approach the home.

Brow Lift – What is an Endoscopic Brow Lift?

In the 90s, plastic surgery joined the rest of the surgical field by incorporating the use of endoscopic equipment. That this means to the world of cosmetic surgery is more minimally invasive procedures with smaller incisions, less risk and an easier recovery. The endoscopic brow lift pioneered the way for its use in cosmetic surgeries.

A candidate for this procedure is someone who wants to correct drooping or low eyebrows either from aging or genetics, to correct asymmetrical or misshaped eyebrows and to correct the appearance of wrinkles. If you have a high hairline, the surgeon must adjust his incision sites and they may be more visible. This is because when the forehead is lifted, the hair line is lifted as well. Anterior incisions can lift the forehead and lower the hairline at the same time.

Four to five tiny incisions are made around the hairline. The surgeon then uses a tiny camera and light so that he can watch his progress on a television monitor instead of having to open the scalp all the way to see what he is doing. The incisions are relatively invisible because they are so small and hidden in the hairline. Through the incisions, the surgeon can remove, adjust and smooth out the areas that are causing the sagging forehead.

Just like a traditional procedure, the endoscopic brow lift raises the brow but it is not effective for drooping eyes. Combining an eye lift with this surgery is often necessary and quite common in order to achieve the best results. Your surgeon will advise you if additional procedures are recommended.

One of the most common risks associated with surgery is infection afterwards. The endoscopic brow lift facilitates recovery and reduces this risk. The incisions are so small and there is minimal trauma to the skin and tissue. You should be able to resume your regular activities in just a few days.

If you are thinking of an endoscopic brow lift, you must first find a surgeon who uses this type of equipment. While it is a technique that is catching on, not all cosmetic surgeons are trained to use these tiny instruments and video equipment. Once you have found possible candidates, then verify that they are board certified in plastic surgery and licensed to practice. Ensure that they have certified training in the use of the equipment.

After you’ve done this, choose the person you feel most comfortable with and who answers all of your questions. You must go in with realistic expectations and be prepared that you may not be a good candidate for an endoscopic brow lift procedure. He may suggest alternatives to achieve the look you want. The best candidates for this technique are those with mild or moderate sagging. A traditional lift is better for more severe cases.

Elevator Speech Examples – 5 Versions, Their Pros and Cons

Elevator speeches and 30 second introductions come in for some bad press – let’s face it, in theory it’s straightforward but in practice it isn’t that easy to summarize what you do in 30 seconds, especially when you want to grab attention.

Here are some examples and the reasons why some are better than others:

The Label

For example: “I am a Life Coach” or “I work for Acme Financial Planners”

This is particularly common when your business is well known. However it isn’t very attention grabbing for a couple of reasons:

Firstly you assume that everyone has the same understanding of your label as you do. They don’t. They may have a completely different perspective on what a life coach does than you do. This isn’t a disconnect you want.

Secondly you give them an open door to think “Ah, OK – I know what that is and I have that covered.” Now they are not really listening anymore.

The Process

“I do small business and personal taxes”

This is a better opening statement but again, it doesn’t speak to the challenges that your audience may be facing. It also invites the response “I have that covered”. If your process description is more complex or unique, you risk the listener not understanding what you do or being confused.

The Solution

“I save people money on their taxes”

This approach is commonly advised and has some merit. Making it about the benefits you provide gets them thinking and benefits are more attractive than a simple label. However there is a danger of such an approach lacking punch – after all, who doesn’t want to save money? In addition processes can be complex to explain and there is a danger that the explanation becomes complicated and unclear and, even worse, strewn with industry specific jargon. Remember the listener doesn’t care HOW the process works at this stage.

The Problem

“I work with people frustrated they are paying too much in tax”

This is the strongest example and one we recommend as a means of grabbing attention (the overall goal of an elevator speech after all). Why? It speaks directly to a real pain point that your target market is feeling. Issues and challenges such as these dominate people’s thinking and they are looking for solutions. Notice the use of emotive words in this example (“frustrated”) to drive home this point.

Problem/Solution

“I work with people frustrated they are paying too much in taxes – I help them save money”

This builds on the problem statement although it is essentially largely unnecessary. When you state that you help with a particular problem your audience is facing, that implies that you have a solution (or else why raise it?) So, you can certainly use this version but may have more immediate impact with a straight problem statement.

There is more to an elevator speech than this of course, but sometimes you only get 10 seconds to get your message over. This is called the 10 second wow! Statement and may well be enough to get the attention you are seeking, from your ideal client prospects!

Using a License Plate Number to Find Out Who Owns a Vehicle

Those that have been through a hit and run situation or they are looking for a way to find the owner of a car for any reason need to know how using a license plate number can help you find out who owns that vehicle. There are many ways to find out who you owns a vehicle, but one of the easiest and fastest ways it to use a reverse search for a license plate. Here is how it works.

Using a License Plate Number Reverse Search

The first thing you will need is pretty obvious, the license plate number. Even if you just witnessed a hit and run you can be very helpful by getting the number and reporting who it was to the police. You never know there could be a reward for doing so. Even if you have to write the plate number on your arm you have to make sure you get it before it is too late.

The second thing you have to do is get on your computer and find one of the many sites that will allow you to do a free online search for the plate number. This is how you are going to find the person that hit and run. It can come in handy for other things as well, so you should make sure you bookmark the site.

You should understand that the person that hit and ran may have been drinking and driving or might not have insurance. They could also have a warrant out for their arrest. This means that you could be doing many favors by finding out who it is and using this information to help find the person and hold them responsible for the accident. Of course you will leave that part up to the police.

What you can be Using a License Plate Number Reverse Search for

You can be using a license plate number reverse search for many things other than just a hit and run that you were a part of or have witnessed. You could also use this type of search to find out who owns a vehicle that should be moved from your property or to find out who owns the car that is parked in front of your partner’s place and could be the person that your partner is cheating on you with.

There are a ton of good reasons to find out who owns a specific car. This can also be used to check and see if the person selling you a car is the registered owner or not. You could avoid many things that could cause you trouble by using this type of a site and you should not trust the police to do your search for you because chances are they will not give it much priority.

The bottom line is that you will want to use the search site for many different things over the next few years. You may find reasons to use it that you did not even think of yet. If you need this type of site it will be helpful to have it bookmarked. You need to know that using a license plate number reverse search is very handy and you need to have a site you can trust.

Induction Cooker – Why You Need An Induction Cooker Today

What is an Induction Cooker?

Induction cooker is a cooking appliance that uses the method of induction heating to cook your food. It is completely different from your convention stove as induction cooker does away the use of gas and instead uses electricity to do the cooking. A ferromagnetic or ferromagnetic coated pot is placed above an induction coil for the heating process to take place. Through this unique induction heating process, your kitchen and wallet are going to enjoy some great benefits!

Energy Efficiency

As mentioned earlier, heat is generated in the pot directly and then to the food. Unlike your gas stove, energy is first converted to heat and then the heat got transferred to the cooking pot. In the process, lots of heat is being loss to the surroundings instead of being efficiently transferred to the food.

With lesser heat being loss unnecessary to the surroundings, your kitchen remains cooler too. Compared to your gas stove, heat is loss unnecessary which not only wastes your money but also making your cooking experience hot and sweaty.

Economic Consideration

Though an induction cooker is more expensive than a convention gas stove, in the long-run, the benefits outweighed the ill benefits. It has higher energy efficiency than a gas stove. According to a research done by the US Dept of energy tests, it has an efficiency of 84%. And in terms of savings, you can save up to 40-70% of electricity bills as compared to a typical cook top.

Safety

You may have heard of many unfortunate kitchen hazards in the news. Now with the induction cooker, these unfortunate events can be prevented. This has a cool stove top. The stove top hardly gets warm and is gentle to your hand even if you touch the stove top with your bare hand. You can forget about the days where you burned your fingers and worrying about your children in the kitchen.

Not only does an induction cooker save energy and money, the absence of an open flame keeps the kitchen safer from any unnecessary fire hazards. The increasing demand of these has resulted in many recognized vendors to produce reliable and affordable cookers. It ranges from as economical as $90 to about $290 if you desire more functionality for your cooker. See a selection of induction cookers by clicking the link below.

Enclosed Trailer Wall Construction

This is the first article of a ten-part series discussing the various individual components of enclosed trailers and how they will relate to the long-term stability of your trailer.

One of the most important components of enclosed trailers is their wall construction. Wall constructions come in a variety of combinations. Most enclosed trailers will use aluminum, steel, galvanized steel sometimes referred to as Galvaneal; or FRP. For wall cross members, steel or aluminum is used. Attached to the cross members is plywood, luan, aluminum or a combination of these.

Exterior

Most commonly used is the aluminum exterior. Normally ranging in thickness from .024 – .050, aluminum is the most common form of exterior. It is durable, lasts long, and does not rust. It is the lightest materials used for the exterior of an enclosed trailer. These are applied in panels using screws, rivets, 3M adhesive tape or an industrial epoxy. Using thicker exterior aluminum will generally increase trailer stability and preserve the aesthetics of the trailer longer. FRP (Fiberglass Reinforced Plastics) is a fiberglass based wall than lasts long and is easy to repair. FRP is normally only available in white. Steel and galvanized steel are generally the least desirable exterior as they will rust and tend to deteriorate rapidly.

Cross Members

The materials used to build the wall cross members are made of steel or aluminum. The steel variety is implemented using either a z-channel, hat post or box tube. Hat post implementations use the same steel configuration as road signs, while z-channel is a hat post cut in half. A box tube has steel on all four sides and is generally considered the most desirable due to strength. Z-channel is the least desirable because of their strength while hat post is cost compromise between box tube and z-channel. For commercial uses or if your application requires wall mounted devices, box tube is a must. Generally, enclosed trailers with hot post a z-channel tend to have their exteriors look “wavy” over time. Normally, cross members are 16″ on center. Some manufacturers use 24″ on center, consumers should be wary of these trailers if they also use z-channel or hat post because of the lack of strength.

Wall Material

Generally, with hat post and z-channel, the walls will have plywood reinforcement. Plywood will add weight over luan with box tube. Looking long term, it is more economical to pay more for a box tub wall trailer if the trailer is used frequently due to added fuel costs. Interior aluminum walls are aesthetically pleasing and are easily cleaned. Some trailers offer a white vinyl coating over luan called designer board. These walls are also easy to clean with a lesser cost than aluminum.

Plank That Salmon – Mouth-Watering Planked Salmon Recipes

Cedar plank salmon is a method of cooking salmon that has been used for hundreds of years. It gives your salmon a natural, rich, smoky flavor, especially when the salmon is slow cooked. Your family and your guests will love the great taste of this specially made salmon.

Cedar planks or boards for grilling are sold at gourmet food boutiques, housewares stores and lumberyard; you can also purchase them online in sets. When choosing your planks, especially at a hardware store, choose cedar that is completely natural and chemical free. It shouldn’t be treated with preservatives or other chemicals.

Before you heat up the grill for cedar plank salmon, you’ll have to prepare your plank.  To do this, soak the board in water for 20 minutes to an hour. The longer the plank is to be on the grill, the longer you’ll want to soak it. Once the plank is ready, heat up the grill; while the grill is warming up, spray the plank with olive oil.

For this particular recipe, you’ll need a 1-2 pound salmon fillet, with the skin still on, ½ cup of brown sugar, 2 tablespoons canola oil, 1 tablespoon dried thyme leaves and 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper. Preheat the grill. Place the salmon fillet skin down on the cedar plank. Combine brown sugar, oil, thyme and pepper in a bowl. Spread the mixture over the salmon. Place the planked salmon on t the grilling grate and cook, with the grill covered for about 4o minutes or until the surface fat turns white.

Another way to enjoy cedar plank salmon is to rub about 2 pounds’ worth of salmon fillets with olive oil. Place on the prepared cedar plank and top with chopped red onion, grated black pepper and lemon wedges. Grill for about 20-30 minutes until done.

This cedar plank salmon recipe calls for a simple yet sinfully tasty marinade of lime and cilantro. In a food processor blend a cup of extra virgin olive oil, a bunch of cilantro leaves, 4 garlic cloves, the juice of one lime, salt and pepper.  Cover about 4-6 salmon fillets with the marinade and place them in a Ziploc bag to marinate, preferably at least two hours or overnight. Grill on the prepared cedar planks for 10-15 minutes.

Your 100-Day Action Plan

What I’m doing right now in my business will show up as results in three months. Why? Because of “lag time.” True momentum is gained over time. I have discovered it takes about 100 days for the results of my actions to really become evident. I call this the 100-Day Rule, and you’ll need to create a 100-Day Plan to keep you focused and moving in the right direction.

Here’s how the 100-Day Rule works. Whatever you are doing right now, today, will affect your business in 100 days. If you’re busy searching for new business two hours a day, you’ll have fantastic results in 100 days. If you occupy yourself with paperwork and minutiae, allowing them to consume all of your time, then 100 days from now you’re going to be frustrated because you won’t be generating the results I know you truly desire.

After a short time working together, clients will often ask me, “What is the problem – why aren’t things happening for me now?” My response is (always): “What were you doing 100 days ago?” Those are the results you’re getting today! It should make you think, and open your eyes to realize the importance of today’s activities, and the thoughts, you are (or are not) putting into pre-planning them.

I often see my clients get focused, take massive action, network, make phone calls, have a calendar full of meetings, and see no immediate results in month one. They see some measurable results in month two, and then, bang! Amazing results and true momentum occur for them in month three.

The 100-day Rule will keep you going because it will help you understand what is happening in your business and why. You’re less likely to become discouraged and quit when you understand this concept. It’s fun to be looking days ahead, and it takes the pressure off while you’re working your current plan.

Don’t beat yourself up for what you did, or didn’t do, 100 days ago. It’s what you do today that is important. When you accept this rule, it’s much easier to persevere in the face of “downturns.”

Coach’s Command: To create a strong, stable, constantly growing business, always be thinking and working 100 days out.

Here’s how to make sure your business plan pays off: create a 100-Day Plan, and update it every single month. Meaning, you will actually create 12 100-Day Plans each year… starting with January 1st – April 10th, then the beginning of February, create a new 100-Day Plan – the dates of this one will be February 1st – May 10th. This will keep you consistently moving in the right direction, with on-going, effective check-ins to keep you on track.

Begin your 100-Day Plan with a mini-vision statement, accompanied by a purpose statement. These two statements will be your guiding light, reminding you not only what you’re excited about, but why.

Next, create empowering descriptors for yourself, such as “progressive, educated leader” or “marketing maven.” In other words, do you want to be “in shape” or a “goddess?” Give yourself a reputation to live up to, using the most energizing, positive words you can think of. Words are incredibly powerful, be particularly alert to the words you use to describe yourself and the actions you want to take. These powerful descriptions of you will help create and maintain a desire to continue, even when the going gets tough. Your plan should include three areas of focus. Depending on which areas of your business need growth, development and management, you’ll pick the three most important.

Do you need more contacts? Are you getting, but not closing, presentations? Do you have plenty of customers, but want to improve your relationship with them? Pick the top three, most crucial to be the focus areas for this particular 100-Day Plan. Keep in mind that you’ll be re-tooling, modifying and updating your plan monthly. You want your plan, and your business, to be balanced.

Coach’s Example: As you are focusing on current sales, remember to look for new business and be constantly networking to keep your momentum going.

Next, define your resources. I’m not talking about cash resources here. I’m talking about people you know, books, seminars, and other business tools. Your resources are invaluable, in that they are a well you can draw from to maximize results. The more resources you have available, the easier your path to success can be.

Of course, you’ll add in your goals – making them to fit within the 100-Day timeframe.

The last section of your 100-day Plan is the “Next Steps” section. This includes everything you can think of that needs to be done for you to reach your goals in the next 100 days. Like a to-do list, you are going to prioritize each item according to what is most important, then what’s next most important… repeating until the list is completed.

Metal Curved Stair Rails – Benefits

Easy "Old World" Ceiling Murals With Exciting New Stencils

The “5th Wall” element is the long forgotten ceilings of our homes.

Look up to a great decorating surface and incorporate your ceilings in to your decorating scheme to create an elegance you never dreamed of.

With coffered and recessed tray ceilings being offered in more and more newly built homes of today’s markets, the interest in ceiling decorating is booming with home owners now in search of new and interesting ways to dress up these wonderfully architectural areas and create interest and detail on plain ceilings.

Even the most drab room suddenly becomes one of grandeur with a ceiling mural. To have a professional create a ceiling mural for you would cost literally thousands of dollars, but the average home owner can now do it themselves with little expense and absolutely no experience.

Painting the ceiling a different color is one thing and yes, it does add interest, but take it a step further by using stencils to replicate the overhead murals of fine homes and mansions.

New “perspective correct” stencils have hit the market that allow the home owner to create mural elements such as trees, columns, balustrades and even hanging grapes that literally appear to be towering above you.

As easy to use as any other stencil design, these new stencils are fashioned to be used on the ceiling rather than the wall and consist of overlays that create authentic, “hand painted” appearing designs.

Overlays are simply parts of the design cut in to different stencils and very easy to use.

The stencils are numbered as to their order of use. The registration holes (found on all the overlays) of the #1 stencil are traced on to the ceiling or wall in erasable pencil. The first overlay is stenciled then removed. The registration holes of the #2 stencil are lined up with the pencil tracing which aligns the stencil perfectly. It is then stenciled and removed. This procedure is followed with any overlays required to complete the design.

Stencil adhesive sprays are inexpensive at your local craft store and allow the stencil to stick to the ceiling without the use of tape which makes it a breeze to stencil over your head.

I just finished a ceiling mural where I began by marking off a 15×8 foot rectangle in pencil on the ceiling. Of course, you can make yours any size you choose.

I then painted the inside of the rectangle in pale blue to mimic the sky.

I stenciled a ceiling mural balustrade stencil around the inside edges of the rectangle, repeating it partially around each side and opposite corners. I then stenciled a ceiling mural urn stencil on top of the balustrade which made it appear to be literally sitting on the rail cap of the balustrade.

I couldn’t believe how realistic the whole design seemed when I was finished. I will later be stenciling vines coming from the pot and winding down around the single balusters to finish the design.

It is not necessary to completely fill a ceiling with designs to get the effect of a mural. A single simple design such as the balustrade, urn or even a single tree can be repeated in ways that fill the space and create a unique mural.

For instance, use the balustrade to completely surround the ceiling or repeat it only 3-4 times to create a “spot” ceiling mural in one corner of the room.

As with any mural, more elements can be added at any time. Murals are typically an on-going process that is a labor of love done over time.

To find stencils for ceiling murals, simply search “Ceiling Mural Stencil” on any of the search engine for sites that offer these great new designs.
