Artists Sell Art to Corporate Collectors

Large and small corporations are still collecting art but it is not always easy for an artist to make sales in this market. The collections of medium to small corporations may vary importantly but usually can not focus on major classical acquisitions.

Contemporary artists have a real possibility to sell to some small and medium sized corporations that specialize in contemporary artists. These businesses want more than decor, they can afford and prefer real art for their offices and buildings. Most corporations know that they can collect local, regional, possibly international artists with some level of recognition at reasonable prices.

Finding the companies that collect is a necessary first step. Then determining what types of art their collection may consist of is the next step. Most corporate collections are managed and publicized within the company as well as in the media for public relations reasons.

Most corporations that collect are working with guidelines that are formulated by the CEO or an executive or administrative committee. These guidelines may even dictate that the accepted art follow content related to the company's products or services.

For example, some pharmaceutical companies collect on themes related to health or medical sciences. Food companies may prefer festive or cuisine-related artworks. CEOs can take the advice of a committee or of one officer appointed to do the necessary research and negotiations to buy art.

Some corporations specialize is one genre or one or two media. Some companies only collect from a particular geographic locale or from one particular organization of artists or dealers. Finding out what is grouped by a corporation begins with reaching a contact person. Then you can try to make a presentation or build a rapport for further negotiation. Of course if you find out that the collection is only involved in buying watercolors and only produce oil paintings, then your best bet is to ask for further contacts that might be known in other collecting corporations.

The process of finding which collections are potential buyers of your work may take some time and work. But if you persist you can narrow down the possibilities. You may even persuade a company to begin collecting, or to work with someone who already likes your art work to begin the collection.

What Does Coffee Mean to You?

Coffee is composed of six simple letters. However, the meaning it gives to an individual person can be as unique as that person themselves.

Learning what coffee means to you can help you enjoy it even more. This is what coffee means to me, using those six simple letters that it is made from.

C = conversation. Coffee is only as good as the conversation that accompanies it. Add to this the fact that if they are eating or drinking then a person is more likely to listen and like what you say, then the reasons for good coffee and conversation in tandem multiply (This is why business lunches and coffees are so popular).

Some of my funniest and most memorable conversations have happened while drinking coffee with a friend or loved one.

O = off. Having a coffee is a time to switch off. Sit down and focus purely on the taste in your mouth while the world continues around you. The smell can take you anywhere. It is proven that the strongest memories and emotions can be evoked by smell. Smell the coffee and go where you want to go.

F = fun. Coffee is fun. Trying new beans or new ways of making your coffee is fun. Sharing it with friends is fun.

F = friends. Coffee helps bring friends together. Meeting up in a coffee shop is simple and more relaxed than meeting up in a bar. It is something people of all ages can do. Sit down, watch the world move around you and bring yourself closer to you friends.

E = entertainment. Well, it’s kind of covered above, but being able to knock up a great coffee in your house can make your night of entertainment a success. I have some friend’s houses that I go to for dinner, not for the food, but just to enjoy the coffee that they make afterwards.

It is the last taste your guests have of your night of entertainment. Make it a memorable taste and your night will go down well.

E = exhilaration. There are so many different types of coffees, so many choices, so many tastes for different times and different situations. You can have a coffee to relax. A coffee to wake up. A coffee by itself. A coffee to accompany a meal. A coffee to enjoy the flavors and spirit of another country. The choice is truly exhilarating.

This spells out COFFEE and my reasons for loving it so much. What does coffee do for you?

Lisp Speech Therapy – Tongue Placement Exercises to Help Reduce a Lisp

Have you ever had a conversation with someone who has a lisp? Perhaps you have had a conversation with a person with a frontal or lateral lisp. A lisp is described as excessive air escaping through the front of the mouth when a person produce certain speech sounds. This may remind you of certain cartoon characters. Frontal and lateral lisps can be frustrating to the listener and speaker because of the adverse affect it may have on the conversations or the messages the speaker is trying to convey.

Speakers with lisps may have had speech therapy to correct the lisp when they were school-aged. However, it may have not been a major concern when they were children to correct their speech pattern. Therefore, as a child she/he did not practice the therapy techniques given by their school’s speech-language pathologist.

Now, as an adult, they have experienced the restrictions that a frontal or lateral lisp may have on their communication performance. Having a lisp can keep you from getting your dream job, such as, a public speaker, commentator, receptionist, and other professional careers that require speaking to a mass of people. Having a lisp may even be a deterrent when dating. So you see, a lisp can have a negative impact on your overall communication performance.

You may have developed a lisp because of misalignment of your tongue or teeth. Whatever the cause may be, you have developed and continued a habit that has a negative impact on your speaking skills. So how do you correct this negative habit? You may seek your old notes and techniques provided by your school’s speech-language pathologist many years ago. Or, you can consult with a speech-language pathologist to talk about your communication difficulty and how it has prevented you from getting certain jobs. The speech-language pathologist may recommend a speech evaluation to determine the cause of your communication problem. Speech habits can be changed if you work diligently towards accomplishing targeted speech goal(s).

Self Development: “a personal and professional investment.”

Investing in your human communication skills may help you decrease your lisp and maximize opportunities.

Here are 6 steps that may help you reduce your lisp:

1. When your tongue is in the resting position, it should be behind the front top teeth or the front bottom teeth. Your tongue should never rest between your teeth. The only time your tongue should protrude between your teeth is when you are producing words with the /th/ sound, such as “think” and “thank you.”

2. In the resting position, your mouth should be closed and tongue behind your teeth or hard palate, unless you have some kind of medical ailment.

3. Use a straw as much as possible to drink your beverages, however, drinking from a straw can cause gas. Using a straw may help with motor movement and muscle memory. When using a straw your tongue should not protrude forward.

4. Practice picking up a cheerio with the tip of your tongue and placing the cheerio on your hard palate (the top of your mouth behind your teeth), holding it until it dissolves. This exercise is a muscle memory exercise.

5. Practice holding your tongue back when you speak at all times but not with the /th/ sounds. The /th/ sound is the only sound in American English that the tongue comes between your teeth.

6. When producing the /s/ sound at the beginning and ending of words, practice clenching your top and bottom teeth together so that your tongue does not protrude between your teeth. Remember, the only time your tongue should come between your teeth is when you are producing the /th/ sound.

These exercises may reduce your lisp to a minimal thus reducing “noise pollution” so that you may effectively convey your thought or message.

The Ultimate Guide to Commitment Phobic Men

Commitment phobic men are masters at deceptively keeping you hooked on them.

Just about every woman has dated at least one commitment phobic man in her life. They are the ones who keep you waiting for the day they’ll finally agree to live with you or marry you or commit exclusively to you. But they never do. When you meet them they are hard to resist because they compliment you and appeal to your vanity. And they lie. They lie about being in love with you, they lie about wanting to date you long term, they lie about not wanting just a sexual fling. And they don’t care.

Here are examples of Commitment Phobic Male Behavior:

  • You date for one week and he tells you he loves you, the next week you never hear from him again
  • You date for a month and he tells you he only wants to date you, then you find out a friend saw him flirting at a party with someone else…the night he was too tired to go out with you
  • You live with him for 8 years and he still won’t marry you
  • He still doesn’t call you his girlfriend and sees his mom more than he sees you, after one year of dating

Commitment phobic men are men who cannot commit to you with the emotional intimacy of marriage or living together because they are emotionally attached to someone or something else that makes emotional intimacy with you impossible.

I know you’re thinking right now, “But how can I avoid these men when I don’t know if a guy is commitment phobic until after we’ve dated for weeks or months?

Actually, it’s easy to spot a commitment phobic man when you first meet him, just by talking to him for a short period of time, before you even date him. You just need to know what behavior traits to look for. You must focus on certain signs a guy gives you that are indications of commitment phobic problems. These “red flags” are glaringly apparent when you know what they are. But even if you know what they are, you must summon the inner strength to ignore a commitment phobic man’s charismatic charm, the appeal of his compliments, and your codependent desire to care for him.

Don’t even give a guy like this a chance by dating him even once, if it’s possible. Once you date him, he’ll trap you with his bag of deceptive tricks, and manipulate you into feeling a comfortable false sense of emotional intimacy by telling you “You’re the woman I’ve always dreamed of finding”.

It’s important to know the ploys and manipulative behavior of these men. They have the ability to make a woman feel a “codependent” need to take care of them by appealing to her need to feel special by taking care of others. They paint themselves as helpless victims of past love relationships, past failed jobs, and parents who abused them; and this makes a woman feel vulnerable to wanting to “fix” their lives and be the one to finally make them happy.

If you were the one in your family tending to the emotional needs of your parents or siblings, you will be easily lured into the world of a commitment phobic man. I highly suggest you read books on codependency by Melodie Beatty and learn what codependency is. It’s important to know if you are susceptible to the charm of commitment phobic men due to your codependent behavioral upbringing.

Commitment phobic men hide behind a persona of charm and adulation towards women that completely camouflages how they truly feel inside. Behind the charming façade of a commitment phobic man’s outer persona, is a man who wants to control, deceive and abuse women. They are unhappy with their lives and often blame a woman in their past for ruining it. Of course, this blame started with their mother, and has now transferred onto another woman in their life. But usually they don’t realize the first seed of hatred towards women, and desperate neediness of them, started with their mother.

These men don’t trust women, like women, respect women or admire women – they hate them. Many of these men are victims of verbal and sexual abuse as children. They have mothers who made their lives miserable, and now they will let out their anger and resentment on you.

When you first meet a commitment phobic man, he will have certain behavior traits that creep into his facade of adulation towards you. It’s important to see these traits as red flags that signal how potentially disastrous dating a man like this can be. These initial behavior traits may seem innocent enough, but they are telltale signs of bigger problems to come. I call them 1st Stage Behavior Traits because this is the behavior you can detect when first meeting or dating a commitment phobic.

1st Stage Behavior Traits of Commitment Phobic Men:

Behavior Trait #1: He will single out insecure women who need attention and compliments to feel good about their life. Then he will say something to a woman that is slightly inappropriate about how sexually alluring she looks. This helps them find the woman who will put up with their problems because her self worth is tied up in someone else’s opinion of her. This is the kind of woman they can control. The woman who doesn’t walk away in disgust is their next victim.

Behavior Trait #2 He will keep the truth about his past life, his finances, his past relationships, his relationship with his mother, and how he truly feels about commitment from you. The real him will be well hidden from your outer view. Most commitment phobic men have deep feelings of shame about themselves and their life and they will hide that shame by doing things to cover up the truth about their life.

One commitment phobic guy I dated didn’t have a decent car, so he used his mother’s car to impress me, but never told me he was using her car until a month of dating him. Another guy I dated took me out to an expensive restaurant on a first blind date and constantly tipped the waiters with large bills. Then I realized on the 2nd date he really couldn’t afford to be so extravagant when I saw his “down and out” apartment lifestyle. He had to give me a false impression about having lots of money, as if that one night would cloud my ability to see his dismal apartment.

There is nothing wrong with a guy wanting to impress you on a date by taking you to a nice restaurant or driving his parent’s car. But there is something wrong with a guy deliberately presenting himself as someone he isn’t just to keep you from knowing the real him. If he has to keep facts about his life from you, he isn’t honest, regardless of the reason he’s doing it. Unfortunately many women who first date commitment phobic men catch a deception, and then they make excuses for why he did it. They don’t realize that once you accept any deception, you will be dealing with bigger lies and secrets to come.

Behavior trait #3: You can never have a conversation with him about what his relationship goals are. He’ll act uncomfortable, and sometimes visibly annoyed. If you sense he isn’t open to a future that includes the kind of commitment you are looking for from a man, don’t consider dating him. Men who won’t commit in relationships will show you by their facial expression and behavior, when you bring up the subject of commitment that it’s one subject they don’t care to discuss. You must realize he has commitment issues when he freezes up when you talk about what you are looking for in a long term relationship. And if he tells you he never wants to get married, he’s doing you a big favor. Believe him and don’t think you can change him, regardless of how much he tells you “you’re the woman of his dreams”. Don’t even consider being the one who’ll be that loving wife he never found. Remember this: with commitment phobic men, it’s not only what they say that matters; it’s their attitude about certain subjects and what you sense they are keeping from you. It’s that unsettling feeling in your gut that this guy isn’t being totally honest with you.

If you do continue to date a guy like this, you’ve accepted behavior that already sets the tone for how he’ll continue to treat you, which will be all about what matters to him. Many women feel it isn’t their right to talk about their relationship needs when they first meet a guy. They feel they will scare the guy away because he’ll immediately think they want to marry him. Wrong! This is the time you must talk about what you want in life. If you don’t tell a guy you want to get married and have kids one day, you will give up your right to expect to get it down the road as far as he’s concerned. Commitment phobic men don’t waste their time with women who declare confidently that they want to get married and have kids. It’s the surest way to watch them disappear.

Behavior trait#4: Another surefire sign that a guy is a commitment phobic is when he will never do anything on time and will always change the time and day of your date or be late for your date. He will also never agree with your suggestion about the date. If you make a decision about the movie you want to see or the restaurant you want to go to, he will want to try a different one. If you accept this behavior, he will continue to act controlling with you, by never focusing on pleasing YOU in the relationship. Of course, you may not notice these first signs when he keeps telling you how beautiful you are and how he can’t wait to make love to you. You won’t be annoyed that he’s always late when he flatters you all the time, right? He is setting up control in the relationship; one that gives him the right to dictate to you what the terms of the relationship will be. And those terms will not include committing to you.

Behavior trait #5: He will make you feel like the most beautiful woman on the planet. He will shower you with his desire for you and give you compliments to an extreme. He will tell you that you are the only woman who understands him, makes him feel such intense attraction, and that he knows he will fall in love with you because you are the woman of his dreams (if he isn’t in love with you already). This is all to distract you from getting to know the real person behind those compliments, seeing all those deceptions and false pretenses.

Behavior trait #6: He will have a dependent personality which means he will need you to take care of him and he will only appreciate you when you do things for him. He will paint himself as a victim of life with bad luck and bad, cruel women. “Thank god he’s finally found you” will be his motto. That is, until he gets bored with you and moves on to someone else. And even if he doesn’t, he’ll never commit to you or fulfill you emotionally. He will lump you in the pile of all those other cruel women who never understand him or care about him. And all you will feel when he moves on is how much you were used and unappreciated.

It’s easy to spot a commitment phobic man when you notice these behavior traits. Usually the first behavior trait is hard to detect until you’ve dated him for awhile and realize the real truth about his life and his past. But the other behavior traits show up immediately: his constant barrage of compliments and making you feel like you are the woman of his dreams; his first comment to you being inappropriate about your physical appearance (or inappropriate touching); his victim mentality about past relationships; his reluctant, almost angry attitude about talking about commitment in a relationship, his constant control of how you both spend your time together by always being late and wanting to change plans and never letting you decide what to do on a date.

These behavior traits may seem harmless and insignificant, but they are red flag signs of serious trouble to come.

See the signs, and when you do, close the door on his opportunity to date you. You deserve a man who offers you so much more.

Keep Your Husband in Permanent 24/7 Chastity – Is It Possible or Desirable?

Can you really keep your husband in permanent 24/7 chastity? First, let’s be clear about what we mean by this. What it means, literally is 24/7 control of your husband’s orgasm; what it means colloquially though, and what people take it to mean is permanent 24/7 orgasm denial.

And the answer is… yes. It’s possible. What’s more, I believe now it’s actually desirable. I’ll explain why.

Keeping your husband in permanent 24/7 chastity

is an act of deep love and devotion and, despite the outward face of it, is not cruel, dominant behaviour or hard-hearted. In fact, when your man is close to orgasm and is begging for mercy, it is very hard for the woman who loves him to say “no“; but say it she must if she wants them both to enjoy the full benefits of true, long-term strict orgasm denial.

The practical side of it is actually rather easy, especially if your man, like my husband, John, is as willing as you are to make it happen (as an aside, men cannot be forced into chastity and orgasm denial against their will, and pretending otherwise is the act of a simpleton, but there’s no denying there are degrees of eagerness – although it’s my experience that you can with coaxing and compassion, teach your man to embrace, desire and even crave permanent orgasm denial).

Anyway, to continue: the practical aspects merely require a secure and comfortable chastity device. John is in a Lori #2C which is secure (even though he is not pierced) and enables him to cycle and work out and essentially live a normal life while wearing it 24/7. Of course it’s not 100% secure — no device ever can be — but it’s secure enough that escaping from it would be difficult and not without pain or risk. In other words it is an exceptionally effective deterrent to his masturbating (which is the only way he could ever orgasm, because while I do use Tease and Denial on him, I am strictly in control).

But what about the other aspects? His need and desire to orgasm and your desire to experience than and to experience him making love to you.

Let’s take the second point first: a sufficiently lifelike strap-on is the answer here. They are not cheap, but a good one is, not exactly perfect, but is good enough. You get 99% of the sensations of his making love to you “properly” without allowing him inside you or risking his orgasm (you can have him do this while he’s still locked, you see).

And to answer the first part… I used to think permanent orgasm denial was too much to ask of either of you, because you’d both be missing out.

But since John and I have embarked upon a full year in denial for him, it’s become apparent that the pleasure for both of us in regular tease and denial sessions with no hope of orgasm until New Year 2012 is to all intents and purposes the same as the mutual pleasure we get from his orgasm. In other words, there is no longer a need for him to have them any more.

The upshot of this is clear: IF a strapon is good enough for you and IF the pleasure of Tease and Denial is enough for you both, then permanent 24/7 orgasm denial becomes not only possible but actually desirable for couples living the male chastity lifestyle. Because, for a man, knowing he isn’t going to get to orgasm properly ever again, nor indeed enjoy penetrative sex with you again… yet is still going to get the pleasure of making love to you with a strapon and enjoy the Tease and Denial sessions you treat him to, it is one of the most erotic things imaginable.

What Do Whey Protein Isolates Do?

Due to its properties, these whey isolates are easily absorbed in an individual's muscles. They contain over 90 percent protein and less than one percent fat and lactose.

Manufacturing process

Whey protein isolates are made by purifying the protein by two food processing techniques: ion exchange and cross-flow micro-filtration. The protein isolates contain almost pure protein and less or no carbohydrates and fat. However, the two methods of manufacturing whey protein isolates produce different nutritional values.

Compared to other sources of protein such as chicken, fish, lean red meat, and eggs whey isolates have a higher biological value (BV).

Components

Whey isolates contain the following key proteins:

Lactoferrin: This protein which makes up about two percent of the whey isolate, binds iron to the gut which requires it from supporting harmful microbial growth such as pathogenic bacteria. It has certain anti-bacterial properties that prevent the adherence of bacterial to the intestinal tract. This is an anti-oxidant that is found in bodily secretions such as blood, milk, saliva, and tears.

Lactoperoxidase: This protein that makes up less than one percent of the whey isolate has strong anti-bacterial properties. However, unlike lactoferrin, lactoperoxidase actually kills micro-organisms through an enzymatic reaction.

Glycomacropeptide (GMP): The structural properties of this protein enable casein to have an aqueous solution. It plays an important role in preventing the formation of dental cavities and plaque.

Immunoglobulins: This protein fraction makes up about 15 percent of the whey isolate. It is found in colostrums which is essential for infants.

Bovine Serum Albumin (BSA): This protein makes up about 10 percent of the whey isolate. It has fat binding properties.

Lysozyme: This fraction of the whey isolate makes up about 0.1 percent of the whey protein isolate. It has anti-bacterial properties and enables an increase in immunity in the body.

Whey protein isolates and whey protein concentrate

Whey protein isolates and whey protein concentrate are both consumed to build muscle. However, there is one main difference between these two dietary supplements:

Protein concentrates are made by filtering the whey in order to separate the protein from water, organic substances, and minerals. The whey protein concentrate in its powdered form is about 80 percent protein and five percent lactose. Protein isolates are lactose free and is ideal for those individuals who are lactose intolerant.

Whey concentrate contains about 14 percent protein, about 75 percent lactose, and approximately two percent milk fat. In contrast, whey protein isolates contains over 90 percent protein and less than one percent lactose and milk fat.

Side effects of whey protein isolates

Consuming too much of whey isolates may lead to increased bowel movements, exhaustion, muscle cramps, or allergic reactions such as rashes or hives. The following are some of the counter-productive symptoms when consuming whey protein in unnecessary doses:

Kidneys damage: Over consumption of the protein supplement may result in stress to the kidney. In addition, the individual may face the risk of kidney stones.

Liver damage: A high protein and low carbohydrate diet can lead to ketosis.

Osteoporosis: Over consumption of the protein supplement may lead to mineral imbalance. This may result in a decrease in bone density.

Allergic reactions: Individuals with lactose intolerance may react poorly to whey (which contains lactose.)

It is recommended to drink at least eight glasses of water a day to ward off these negative reactions to the body.

What Is Disc Golf?

The formalized game of Disc Golf started after the first target or basket was patented around 1976 by Ed Headrick who worked for Wham-O at the time. Headrick had originally wanted to call the device a Frisbee Pole Hole but ran into issues over the Frisbee trademark. Before this invention, players had been making up their own targets around their yards, neighborhoods and local parks aiming for landmarks like trash cans, lamp poles or certain trees. The idea of inventing a better target occurred to Ed when he wanted to prevent 'arguing' with friends if a player had hit the declared target.

Golf discs or Frisbees are used to play the game of disc golf. Professional golf discs serve the same purpose as the ball and club do in ball golf. There are putters, mid range approach disks, and drivers just like the clubs in ball golf. Some discs are designed to go straight, some turn left, and some turn right. Therefore, depending on the type of fairway on the course you have adequate choices available to complete the hole.

There are various types of throwing techniques which also provide much more variety and challenge to the game. There are backhand, forehand and overhead (baseball) types of throws, along with roller shots for low overhead fairways.

The game is played similar to ball golf by counting the number of throws it takes to complete a hole. The hole is completed by the disc landing in the basket of the pole hole or supported by the chains above the basket. Discs landing on top of the basket or stuck in the outside of the grid of the basket do not count as completion. The holes in disc golf are measured in feet, not yards, and typically average 250-300 ft per hole. Most disc golf holes are par 3, but some longer and more difficult holes can have higher pars.

There are close to 4,000 courses through the world now (Dec 2013) and the number is growing daily. Chances are there are courses near where you live or want to go. Most courses are located in public parks and are free to play. Some are located on private property where nominal fees apply for a daily pass.

The advantages of disc golf are numerous. Any age can play! It affords players an opportunity to get outside in pleasant surroundings without the drawback of Tee times and green fees. It's a lifetime activity, great fun with family and friends. It's more affordable than ball golf and takes less time to play. A typical 18-hole round takes about 1 h hours over approximately 2 miles without the player actually knowing he is getting exercise. There is very little risk of physical injury while providing upper and lower body stretching and conditioning. Concentration skills increase while trying to master shots and negotiate obstacles. The learning curve for this sport is much faster than ball golf while providing the same challenges that make the game so addictive. Many courses use space in parks that were previously mowed but unused for other recreation. Therefore, no additional expenses are needed for upkeep. There is no need for fertilizing, watering and other high maintenance grounds keeping.

A motto for this sport is "He who has the most fun wins". In my opinion, Disc Golf is the most fun.

Lighting the Bathroom Mirror the Right Way

One of the most important parts of any bathroom is the mirror. When properly lighted, a bathroom mirror can be every woman's best friend. Have you ever wondered why some bathrooms can be so friendly and welcoming while others are harsh and uninviting?

The answer probably lies on proper lighting. Let's admit it; everyone spends a reasonable amount of time in front of a mirror. We primp and preen in front of a mirror trying to fix ourselves in as many ways as we can. A mirror is an important tool in providing ourselves proper grooming. The mirror needs to be properly lighted so that spending time in front of it will be an everyday pleasant routine.

It is a challenge to provide good lighting for a mirror. Lighting a mirror properly will eliminate unnecessary shadows and provide good illumination for every user. Frequently, we see only a single ceiling fixture in a bathroom. Instead of providing a friendly illumination, this type of lighting only casts shadows below your eyes and hit your eyebrows, which are definitely unfriendly effects. Cross lighting is the key to good mirror lighting. Cross lighting includes direct light from above, both sides and below. Achieving this can be made possible through a wide range of available lighting fixtures. Glare from frosted bulbs or those fixtures with opaque plastic or glass shields should be avoided.

Decorators suggest that the sink's front edge and countertop should be illuminated with a light on the ceiling above the mirror. This could be a recessed task light that can be a round incandescent ceiling fixture that should be at least 12 inches in diameter with a bulb rating of 100 to 120 watts. You can also choose a fluorescent ceiling fixture above the sink. It is recommended that a fluorescent ceiling fixture above the sink should hold two 24-inch bulbs with 20 watt rating.

In order to complete the cross lighting, you should place light fixtures on both sides of the mirror. It is important to choose a light fixture that casts light in four directions – up, down and both sides. Rows of exposed incandescent bulbs with low wattage are typically designed to light mirrors. Pendants or wall-mounted fixtures are also common choices. These types of fixtures should be placed at eye level and should have at least 60 to 70 watt bulb. Fluorescent tubes are also favored choices because these utilize low electric consumption and last longer. Today, there are a lot of fluorescent tubes that are designed for vanity use and which provide a full spectrum light. A 24 inch 20 watt tube placed on each side of the mirror will create the required lighting. If your bathroom mirror is more than 24 inches wide, you can use a wall mounted light above the mirror and at the same time use the same type of fixture on the sides to complete the cross lighting effect.

Finally, for mirrors larger than 36 inches wide, sidelights may not be enough to provide the desired lighting. However this can be corrected by using powerful overhead light sources, which will be enough to cover even the mid section of the mirror that may the side fixtures may fail to illuminate.

Fireproof Safes and Depository Safes – Four Reasons for Owning One

Burglaries – How often do we hear, 'It will not happen to me'. Statistics reports by the FBI show there are four (4) burglaries every minute, that's 250 per hour, 6,100 per day, a walloping 2.2 million per year, in the United States. Common items stub are cash, firearms, electronics and gold. Unfortunately, most people wait till they have been robbed before looking at how they can secure not only valuables and personal papers but also sensitive documents. It's not only the loss of valuables and cash that should be concern but also the loss of personal papers such as passports, social security information, insurance policies etc. that can lead to your identity being stolen. Know is the time to secure your valuables and identity by investing in a burglary safe. There are a number of safe options available including wall safes, floor safes, fireproof burglary safes, gun safes and pistol safes.

Business Security – How often do we hear of employees relieving their employer of cash? Far too often and unfortunately, it is often employees who have been with the business for a long time and are considered trusted employees who are the offenders. For some employees they see the cash come in, pocket some bills and justify their theft by saying it was only a small amount or I deserve more than I am being paid. We have personally suffered the emotional rollercoaster when a very long-term manager whose responsibilities included collecting the takings from our food outlets was keeping a percentage for himself. Had we known back then, what we know now, we would have had a drop safe in each outlet and had each outlet manager regularly reconciled the till and deposit the reconciled amounts in the safe. If you are storing cash overnight or receiving cash or documents at all hours then I would recommend a depository safe.

Fire – The latest statistics from FEMA report there were 362,000 residential fires in the US up 106,000 from the previous year. The dollar loss from these fires was a staggering $ 6,646,900,000 and the cost due to death and trauma is incalculable. There were 84,900 non-residential fires having a dollar loss of $ 2,400,700,000. In a fire while residential or non-residential the loss of cash, valuables and personal papers is traumatic. To help alleviate some of this hardship safe manufacturers have produced ranges of fireproof safes suitable for home and businesses. Most safes are tested by Universal Laboratories and given a UL rating to tell us how the contents will hold up in a fire. Other agreed upon insurance standards include B-rated security steel safes which are primarily designed for maximum security and have not met any fire resistant testing, TL-15 and TL-30 ratings are safes that are both fireproof safe and burglary rated.

Gun Security – There are over 1,500 incidental firing fatalities a year in the United States. What is alarming is that guns are the second highest cause of non-natural deaths for children in the United States. Surveys reveal 40% of US homes with children have guns and that 50% of homes with guns do not store the firearms safely. The American Academy of Paediatricians (AAP) recommends:

  • The gun should be locked up
  • The gun should not be loaded
  • Ammunition should never be stored with the gun
  • Ammunition should be locked away separately to the guns
  • Safe keys or combinations should not be available to children

To secure guns the best protection is a fireproof gun safe. A good gun safe offers both fire protection and in the event of fire water protection from the gallons of water used to extinguish the blaze.

4 Types of Fuses

The fuse is a practical part of an electrical device because it helps to protect the circuit and avoid issues with overloads. There are plenty of different fuses in the market, but most include a non combustible material to house a low-resistance metallic wire. In the event of a mismatched load, over current or short-circuit, the thin wire is designed to instantly melt in view of the much higher current flow and heat generation.

Here are a few of the most popular types of fuses:

Current limiting

The current-limiting fuse is a type of high interrupting fuse that is designed to safety break at 600 AC V and up to 300,000 amperes. A great benefit of this fuse is the speed that it is capable to operate which helps to protect the electrical devices from potential damage.

Resettable

The resettable fuse has a built-in polymeric positive temperature coefficient (PPTC) thermistor to protect a circuit in the event of an over current situation. This type of self-resetting fuses is reusable and will revert back to low resistance once its device has cooled. This fuse is a popular choice for nuclear or aerospace applications where it would be very difficult to install a replacement. Also, they feature in a PC motherboard to protect it against permanent damage in the event of a short keyboard or mouse.

Thermal

The thermal fuse is a popular choice for a wide range of consumer electronics such as hair dryers and coffee machines. This fuse has a spring contact mechanism held close by a fusible, temperature-sensitive alloy. In the event of a sudden increase in temperature, the alloy will quickly melt and break contact with the circuit. This is useful in a hair dryer when the heating element is blocked to avoid the risk of fire. The thermal fuse is one time use and must be replaced in the event of being blown.

High-voltage

The high-voltage fuse is the right choice for a powered system that runs up to 115,000 AC volts. It is used in small power transformers or for electricity metering. For instance, it can feature in a distribution system to give appropriate protection to a transformer that is serving multiple properties. This is a large and expensive fuse that can be rebuilt in the event that it is blown. They are built using predictable and stable elements, such as tin, copper and silver. Also, certain fuses contain gas-evolving substances, which are only practical for outdoor use.

In this article, we are going to analyze the various flooring materials. In particular, we are going to look at bamboo flooring, wood flooring, slate flooring and marble flooring.

Bamboo Flooring

When you think of bamboo flooring, it is likely that you will find it rather difficult to accept that such a thing exists. After all, bamboo is food for pandas, right? Yes, but bamboo has been used for numerous other things all through the centuries.

Bamboo flooring is not only strong and environmentally friendly, but it is also gorgeous to look at. This kind of flooring can be completed in attractive patterns, or it can be in carbonize or natural colors.

Many markets have already noted the efficiency of bamboo flooring, and have effectively integrated this kind of flooring. These kinds of markets include executive offices, upscale condominiums, and various retail stores.

Wood Flooring

Wood flooring can be especially good especially if you want something that has a classic feel to it. However, wood flooring is one of the most difficult types of floors when it comes to maintenance. There are numerous stuff that could damage the natural surface of the wood flooring that you must regularly make it a point to take additional care of your wooden floor. The good news is, if you know how to take care of your wood flooring, you can actually expect your floor to last for an extended period of time.

When cleaning your wood flooring, you should keep away from using water. Water or any water-based cleanser would cause the wood to decay easily. To clean your floor, you should apply wax instead. Put the wax on a rug and apply repeatedly particularly in heavy traffic parts. If you have a large family, make sure that you apply wax frequently on areas like the works, the stair landings, room entrance and other parts of the home, which are frequently used. Applying wax on wood would help hold back the process of wear and tear.

Slate Flooring

Slate is a type of stone, which is extensively used for flooring nowdays. In the past, this stone was used mainly for places, which attracted high traffic as well as for buildings' exteriors. Since these stones are very durable, stain free, slip-resistant and low-maintenance they are typically moved into homes as a preferred alternative for flooring. The stone exists in numerous shapes, which can be used in any arrangement you want for making your flooring as gorgeous as you want it. The slate flooring can be completed together in smooth finish and in rough finish for extra show. Beside, there are numerous colors to select from, ie brown, gray, sea green, dark green and even purple.

Since the slate flooring has outstanding properties like being waterproof and non-staining it is very much preferred for kitchen flooring, and all other places where water is always available such as, bathroom flooring and wall tiles, backsplashes, hallways, driveways, walkways, pool walls, fire place walls, spas, waterfalls. The slate flooring is quick becoming a great preferred flooring for kitchen since it is the best when compared to all the existing alternatives, ie vinyl and linoleum, parquet, ceramic tiles, etc. When compared to vinyl and linoleum the slate flooring is much more long-returning and easy to maintain. Vinyl flooring looses its appeal in about five years time when it begins peeling off and its colors begin to fade. Linoleum also has this problem.

Marble Flooring

Marble flooring is simple to clean. If your place does not typically have heavy traffic, you can uphold your marble floor by just sweeping it everyday. You may mop it with water every now and then to get rid of some stubborn dirt. Not like wood flooring where you will have to take precautions against moisture and moisture, you do not have to be bothered about damaging your marble floor when you spill water on it. Home Improvement With Benches and Awnings

If you're a home owner concerned about increasing the value of your home and property, do not neglect the exterior, particularly if you have a yard or garden. With a small amount of work and a bit of an eye for landscaping, you can use these two elements to make your garden or back yard a voluntary island of calm around your home.

First, look for sight lines. You do not want your awning to block any of the views from the house; take the time to use a bit of trigonometry to place your awning first. Remember that something that's twice as far away will look half as tall (that trigonometry that we mentioned earlier); moving the awning farther away from the house will keep it from obscuring a view downrange.

Second, think about what it'll be used for. If it's meant to be a sunshade, or otherwise be simply decorative, it does not need to be watertight. On the other hand, if items for the yard or decorative items are going to be stored under it, it needs to be able to keep the rain off as well as the sun.

Awnings should be chosen for color coordination with your yard – they're going to be a place to sit comfortably in the summer with the sun kept off you. Benches and awnings are natural complements, and less of a financial hazard than the dreaded gazebo, which requires more extensive construction and drainage work.

When looking for benches, again, focus on the kind of style you want to do. Decorative stone benches can lend a refined, aristocratic air to the lawn; Many are also topiary benches with built in flower beds. For those on a more frugal budget, benches in the Windham and Rock Reading styles are wood and ironwork, and can be had inexpensively, since they arrive pre-assembled, and are meant to be installed by the owner.

If you choose to go with a wooden bench, be sure to treat it with a weatherproofing compound to keep the wood from absorbing water, losing its natural oils and cracking and fading. Much the same way you'd work to maintain an external deck, you'll want to take the same precautions with any wooden furniture. Fortunately, most wooden benches use stainless steel for their "ironwork" so they will not rust out from underneath you without a lot of time and work.

Decide if you want your bench to be anchored to the ground, which will require placing a small concrete slab and anchor bolts, or if you want it to be mobile, or movable later. And, like the discussion on sight lines, focus on what you want to see from the bench when you place it.

These tips can help you improve the value of your home considerably, and make your yard a pleasanter place to visit!
