Proper Skateboard Assembly

How can you learn proper skateboard assembly? If you are a skater, at some point or another you will need to know how to assemble your skateboard either because you want to customize your skateboard or because you want to set your own specs for better skateboarding.

Before you can begin the assembly of a skateboard you need to have the proper tools.

These will include:

o Screwdriver or allen wrench

o Safety knife with new blade

o Metal file

o 3/8″, 9/16″ nut drivers

o Square aircraft lock nut

o Griptape

o Work area

Optional tools:

o Power drill

o Vise

You start proper skateboard assembly by placing the griptape onto the deck. You can buy griptape in full-length sheets with different designs and colors. The gritty top of the paper helps your shoes grip the board and prevents slipping. This step is very easy because all you have to do is peel off the backing to reveal the sticky underside and stick it to the top of the board you are assembling. Make sure the griptape is stuck well and that it covers all the edges.

Now you are ready for the second step which is to cut off the excess griptape. You will use the safety knife to do this which is why you need to make sure you have a sharp blade. After trimming the paper to the size of the board, take the metal file and smooth out all the edges.

The truck mounting will be the next step. To begin this step you need to poke holes through the griptape where the truck holes are located. This is where a vise could come in very handy. You need to hold the board so you can push the mounting bolts through the truck holes. There are four bolts per truck, but you need to push one bolt through at a time. Then slide the optional riser pads up and onto the bolt ends. Do the same with the trucks. It is essential that when performing this step you have the truck bushings and the kingpins facing each other towards the middle of the skateboard. Otherwise, when mounted they will turn in the opposite direction from what they should be turning. Use the screwdriver or the allen wrench to secure and tighten down the locknuts.

After finishing all four trucks it is time to mount the wheels. You have to be careful not to damage the shields on the bearings when putting them in the wheels. You may need to purchase a tool to help you in this area especially if you have the hard wheels. You do this process by dropping a bearing onto the truck axle then a spacer and press into the wheel making sure they go all the way. To reduce friction, mount the thin washer located on the axel onto the outside of the bearing. Next add the square aircraft lock nut and tighten. You need this to be snug while still allowing the wheel to roll. It can have a little play but should not be wobbly.

Now you are ready to skate. It is always a good idea to carry tools with you because as you ride things will begin to losses up. With a new board it will be necessary for you to make minor adjustments as everything begin to settle in.

Tips For TV Wall Mounts

LCD TV wall mounts can be a great help for space management. With the introduction of LCD and plasma flat screen TVs, you do not have to waste a table or any other furniture to hold the TV set. It can be mounted on a wall or ceiling. This not only saves space, but also provides a sleek and modern look to the entire room.

Flat screen and LCD TVs are widely available and can easily be mounted. The new, LED televisions are even thinner and should be even easier to mount. These TVs have made the bulky tube televisions obsolete; in the same way as color TVs put the black and white TVs out of business. Remember that? A majority of wall-mountable TVs do not come equipped with wall mounts. You might have to buy these items separately. It is not a big task, since they are cheap and are widely available. If you cannot find a good quality wall mount in your nearby shop, log on to the Web. There are some websites that offer good quality wall mounts at affordable prices.

Things To Consider Before Using Wall Mounts

The mounting of LCD TVs on the wall or ceiling is not a complicated process. If you are comfortable with common household electrical or plumbing trouble-shooting, chances are, you can pull this off. If you are not comfortable with this kind of job, do not hesitate to hire a skilled technician. Confidence is a big factor here. If you do something the wrong way, you may end up damaging the TV set. You don’t want that, of course.

There are two types of LCD TV wall mounts; one that can be attached to the wall and the other that can be attached to the ceiling. Those attached to the wall are ideal for most of the rooms. If the room is very large, then ceiling mounts can be preferred. If the TV is mounted on the wall, in a spacious room, it might appear to be at a distance from the viewer. In such cases, a ceiling mount would be ideal, where the set is hung from the ceiling.

Most of the modern TV wall mounts can be swiveled and moved for optimum viewing angle and for comfort of the viewer. It is better to mount them on interior walls than exterior walls. You need to know the material of the wall. Wooden studs are the most ideal for installing wall mounts. You can directly drill the screws into the wooden stud. If it is a concrete stud, you will need to buy special clamps.

Metallic studs are not ideal for fixing wall mounts. It is better to make use of some other external mechanic clamping device to affix the LCD TV wall mounts if the wall contains metallic studs.

How to Properly Water Your Trees

Common misconception of some gardeners is to take care of trees only when it is newly planted and are being left out when they are full-grown. If they become diseased and damaged, people start to be alarmed. In reality, trees are being extra taken care of when it is newly planted and are habitually taken care (whether season by season or year by year) as it matures and grows. A tree’s beauty is reflects the care that you put into them; a healthy tree is a happy tree. Thus, healthy trees are often to be the most beautiful trees.

Taking care of your trees is shown by watering it. Accordingly, the most important time to water it is when it’s newly planted and during the dry spells. Deep-soaking watering is best to do. If you have made a basin around the tree on planting day, instead of the water dribbling away, the water flows where it is needed.

Place a hose at the base of the tree and run it on a slow drop. To make sure that the water is soaking in, check it back on intervals. If it starts to overflow, stop, let the trees absorbed the water, and continue.

If you are unsure if the water supply is really reaching the roots, try to dig about a foot down using a trowel. You may be stunned when you discover that water is being fast absorbed by trees.

New and young trees must be soaked twice a week in their trees and for mature trees, they can be soaked longer. On how long you will soak it will depend on the type of tree, soil, and the weather. Trees get matured by water around once or twice a month during the height of summer.

Do not wait until the tree is shedding leaves to apply extra water, especially in a drought. Preserving water is very stressful for a weakened plant.

Water bags are very useful for watering newly planted trees. At the ground level, place the devices around the tree and fill them with water. They are designed to slowly discharge water and it will gently drench the soil around the roots without running off.

Trees should be taken cared of not only when they are newly planted, but until they mature. Trees give a lot of benefit to us and in order to achieve these benefits, we should work it out because in the end it will be paid off.

The King of Spade and Queen of Hearts: Play All the Cards in Your Hand

Did you know that for each deck of 52 cards, there are more than 2.5 million possible poker hands? As the famous card player Wyatt Earp once said, “Every hand has its problems, but every hand can be a winner.” It is human nature to look at the hand we were dealt, see its shortcomings, and wish it were different. But if we throw away a card and draw another, we just end up with a different set of problems. We can all be winners if we play the hand we were dealt, and to do that we must access the masculine and feminine energy present in each of us.

Masculine energy knows the rules of the game; it has a strategy and isn’t afraid to take a risk. It goes for it! Feminine energy, however, monitors the flicker in the eye, the sweat on the brow, and the veins in the neck. It has the intuition to instruct the masculine energy when to make its move. When the feminine energy of intuition flows into the masculine energy of action, great things can happen. Without this balance, though, your hand will never experience the riches available to it.

When he took a run at RJR Nabisco in the late 1980’s, CEO Ross Johnson lost his hand in the high stakes game. One of the biggest leveraged buyout attempts in history, the story became a book and later a movie called Barbarians at the Gate. Johnson failed miserably because he and his cohorts were way out of balance. Someone sprinkled too much masculine energy on their Wheaties, and when masculine energy is out of whack it wants action solely for the sake of action.

The “Barbarians” at RJR Nabisco weren’t concerned with anybody or anything but the almighty dollar, and they were addicted to stirring things up. If no deal was to be had that day, they’d reorganize the office and change its reporting structure. It was utter chaos for their employees, but those in charge had a desperate need for frenzied activity.

The answer for those “Barbarians” would have been to insert a little “Barbarella” into the mix. Feminine energy is all about focusing on the needs of others, rather than one’s own. It is more relaxed, reflective, and facilitative. It establishes a value system that imbues action with meaning. We need both the reason for being and the ability to make that reason a reality.

Too much feminine energy would be “Barbarellas at the Gate” and they wouldn’t be knocking – they’d be immersed in their feelings, paralyzed that any action may offend someone. They would call a group meeting to discuss things once again, long after it was time to make a decision. With too much feminine energy deals don’t get closed, decisions don’t get made, and prospects are never converted to clients. An overabundance of feminine energy, therefore, doesn’t work either.

Both energies have strengths but both become weaknesses if some of the opposite energy isn’t brought in to balance the other. For example, masculine energy likes to project its ideas onto others but feminine energy is more concerned with drawing thoughts and ideas out of others. I once worked for a man who always believed that his opinion was the only one and he spent valuable time convincing others that he was right. He operated with too much masculine energy. On the flip side, someone who always listens politely to others and is afraid to be assertive expresses too much feminine energy. It sounds simple, but we all know that a combination of both talking and listening will garner the best results.

Masculine energy likes to take the helm and be the leader of the pack, while feminine energy is facilitative, nudging from behind. Emergency situations call for a leader to take charge and make a decisive decision. But a leader who does this all the time, regardless of the situation, doesn’t give employees an opportunity to develop. By allowing others to make their own decisions mentors build successors, just as parents train their children to live away from home. A leader who practices both energies knows when to step forward and when to delegate.

The trick is for each of us to learn to use both energies so that one energy can mitigate the other, preventing neither from getting out of whack. To play all the cards in our hand we have to start by understanding the power of both energies. We also need to be aware of our natural inclination – where we feel the most comfortable. That’s the first Stilletto Step of Self-Awareness. Then it’s important to take the second Stilletto Step and accept the characteristics of each energy without labeling one “right” and the other “wrong.” By accepting that both have value, we can consciously “try the other energy on for size.” Just like at the poker table, changing your pattern of raises and bets increases the opportunities for the cards in your hand.

The English journalist Tony Holden once said, “One’s character is laid bare at the poker table. Unless we are prepared to see ourselves as others do, flaws and all, we’ll be a loser in poker and in life.” Effective leaders know their energy preference, but can fluidly move back and forth between both energies, using their masculine energy to drive forward from the feminine energy of reflection. This is good Gender Physics – accomplishing your goals by playing all the cards in your hand.

Let’s shuffle and deal.

Tips to Dig a Farm Pond

Having a beautiful pond can be a great addition to any farm since it can add scenic beauty and become an emergency water source as well. Besides, you can let your kids to take a dip on your pond in the summer day, or you just stock it with fish. Actually, digging a pond is not as difficult as you think. By using the right techniques, you will be easier to make your own small or large pond as you like. At this time, this article is going to give you some easy tips that will guide you in digging a farm pond. So, just check out the following tips.

The first thing that you need to do is to choose the appropriate location for the farm pond that you want to build. It is suggested for you to find a section of the flat land so that the water in your pond will not drain out.

The second thing that you have to do is contact your local city for asking about the freeze line. For instance, the freeze line should be 3 feet beneath the surface dirt. It is very important for you to dig your pond deeper than the freeze line in order to prevent the pond from freezing into the solid block of ice in the winter.

The third thing that you should do is to use a spray paint for marking the shape of your pond. After that, you can start to dig the pond from the center and then working outward. You should make your pond for at least one to two feet deeper than the freezer line if you are going to stock the pond with fish.

Removing debris from the bottom part of your pool is the fourth thing that you have to do. Then, you can spread pond liner or vinyl liner to the bottom of your pond in a way to avoid folds and wrinkles. If there is any excess, you can cut it with utility knife. Lastly, you can add water to your pond or just wait for the rainfall.

Executives and Elevators: Perfecting That Pitch

If you’re an executive, you probably already know the value of a powerful ‘elevator pitch’; that thirty second dazzling display of verbal brilliance designed to deftly sum up your position, your product, your qualifications or your company.

You also know just how tough it is to master the art of explaining your “unique selling proposition” in the time it takes an elevator to travel the length of a tall building. You know your business, product, service or issue well, but where do you begin in explaining it to someone else? What do you highlight? What do you leave out?

Whether you’re seeking votes, customers, a job, a partnership, or simply understanding, you have to know what to say and how to say it when faced with the opportunity to meet a key decision-maker. Perfecting your elevator pitch helps you explain yourself clearly and to best effect, giving you an edge in all executive communication.

How then to develop a powerful elevator pitch? Here are some brief tips to help you develop your pitch or perfect the one you use:

1.) Know who’s catching Your pitch is far more likely to be accurate if you know your target. Everything you say has to be aimed at your listener and center on what you, your service or product can do for them. Make sure your entire pitch is about them. Don’t waste time highlighting your awards, your record or other markers of your success, unless you know how those relate to what your listener needs to hear. Leave out supportive data, long stories, detailed examples and anything that isn’t about ‘the bottom line.’

2.) Stay away from platitudes Every business says its “customer-focused” and “results oriented”. Every would-be hire calls themselves “reliable” and an “out of the box” thinker. Every department believes it’s unique, and every cause believes it’s “just.” Ever hear of a startup that doesn’t believe it had found a “winning strategy”? Find the uniqueness of what you’re offering and be able to explain why your audience should care. This is not your mission statement. It’s your core delivery.

3.) Preparation is the key to confidence Don’t ever “wing it”. A first impression only happens once. Respect your audience enough to prepare well, including arming yourself with succinct answers to the toughest questions that might follow your pitch. Be flexible enough to be guided by your listener. If he or she interrupts with questions, make sure you answer them.

4.) Solve a problem Don’t just offer capabilities, opinions or a suite of services. You’re got to focus on the problem you solve; the solution you offer to this specific audience. If your audience has to ask “How does this help me?” or “Why should I care?”, you’re in trouble.

5.) Let the passion show Facts actually DON’T speak for themselves. They can move heads, but it takes emotion to move hearts. Let your listener hear the commitment in your voice and your words. Let them see your involvement with direct eye contact and confident body language. An elevator pitch is not a dry recitation of facts delivered neutrally. If you want to move someone to take action, you have to show them you care. Don’t let the ‘fact.

6.) Call for action Give your listener something to do with the information they’ve just received. Make clear what you want to have happen and the suggestions or alternatives you are proposing. Talk about next steps, and make sure the action you want them to take is clearly understood.

Remember that clear speaking reflects clear thinking. Even if your pitch is one you have used regularly, get some feedback from a coach or a trusted source on how to improve it. And whatever you do, keep it short, or in the wise words of Winston Churchill, “Be clear. Be brief. Be seated.”

Wood Burning Stoves – Installing

Wood Burning Stoves are an extremely efficient way of heating your home. If you have a decent supply of seasoned wood and are looking for the most efficient way to burn it, a wood burning stove is your best best.

As with many appliances many people shop around on the internet for the best stove to suit their taste, style and budget. This is where the journey begins but this is the simplest part of being an owner of a wood burning stove.

On the face of it, to any DIY enthusiast, the installation of a wood burning stove looks relatively simple. Having years of experience we have heard and seen every ridiculous installation and ideas out there.

You just put it in the fireplace, stick a pipe in the chimney and light it don’t you? Well the short answer is NO.

There are many option you need to consider:

How old is your house?

What state is your chimney in?

Are you in a smoke control area?

Do you want the guarantee and safety of lining your chimney?

Do you even have a chimney?

The most basic type of stove installation is a simple pipe and register plate installation. This involves installing your wood burning stove into your existing chimney. You flue the gases up into the chimney with a piece vitreous enamelled flue pipe. This is then sealed with a steel register plate.

The safest and most efficient way to install your stove is to also liner your chimney with a stainless steel double skinned flexible chimney liner. Even if you chimney is in decent condition, most people opt for a chimney liner as it is guaranteed for up to 15 years and allows the stove to burn more efficiently.

You may not have a chimney at all. If you wish to install a stove in a room without a chimney, this can be achieved by using twin walled rigid flue pipe. You can then choose to flue the system either out through the ceiling and loft or out of the wall and up the side of the house.

So those are the 3 methods commonly used to install wood burning stoves.

If you wish to install your stove yourself, you will have to source all the relevant parts from a good wood burning stove site. You will then have to install all the parts in compliance with Building Regulations Document J and file for a building notice with your local council.

Your other option is to call in a professional HETAS registered Stove Installer to install your wood burning stove. This engineer will be able to ‘sign off’ your installation without the involvement of building control.

Make sure you adhere to the 5 golden rules:

1) Seek professional Advice

2) Make sure that you stove is right for you (multifuel or wood, smoke control approved)

3) Think about safety and efficiency when choosing an installation

4) Install the stove to building regulations or have a professional HETAS installer

5) Make sure you burn good seasoned wood

Tips for Replacing A Deck Plank

Have a bad board/plank on your deck? Don’t panic! It’s easy to repair if you have the right tools and a little courage. There are several options depending on the amount of damage to the plank.

Before you buy new boards there are several options to consider. First, is your board just badly weathered but still sturdy or completely rotted? If it is not rotted, consider just taking the board up and flipping it over. You’ll have a great looking board on the other side! (In fact, if you have the time, energy and inclination you can re-do an entire deck this way and end up with a deck that looks like new.) Secondly, if the damage is confined to a small area, it is not necessary to replace the whole board but only the damaged section. This is a fast, easy and inexpensive repair. Take these factors into consideration, then measure the length of board you actually wish to replace.

You will also need the following tools: tape measure, pry bar, T square, pencil jig saw or keyhole saw, a wood chisel, drill, galvanized nails or screws and a nail set. Beware of nails and screws made in China! They bend and break very easily. You will need to have extra on hand. It is also easier to work with screws than nails.

The process for removing the board is more or less the same regardless of how much you are removing. If you are replacing a section of board, mark the section to be replaced to either side of a joist replace with a T square and pencil. Next, using your jig saw cut the board along the line. You may need to drill a hole in order to have enough space to begin your jig saw. Back the screws out with a power drill set on reverse or pry the board out with a pry bar. If it is badly rotted you may need to use your chisel and any means necessary to remove it. When removing an entire board it can be helpful to cut it into smaller sections before removing.

Cut your replacement board to fit the area being replaced and attach it to the existing joists using screws or nails. Place the nails/screws a bit below the surface using a nail set for the nails. If a joist is damaged or rotted you will need to reinforce it with a “sister board”. To do this cut a section of 2 by (the size will depend on the existing joist size) several inches longer than the damaged section. Attach this board to the side of the existing joist to reinforce it. Then attach the new decking board to the new section of the joist.

If you are replacing a board that extends to the edge of the deck and hangs over a side joist, cut the board a few inches longer. After it is in place, trim the board to match existing.

To finish your project, sand any areas that may be uneven and apply decking stain or paint to match your existing deck.

Safety Plan Template – Use a Template to Save Time

If you are looking to generate a Safety Plan, you should consider getting hold of a template to help you draft this plan. A template is going to save you considerable time and effort when it comes to generating a document that is essential for any organisation.

These types of plans can be quite detailed and will certainly take a bit of time to create. Getting hold of a template will enable you to save time, money and will certainly put less strain on your brain as you try to think of all the items that you might need for your plan.

So, what are some things you can expect to find in a Safety Plan and expect to find in a template? Well, you should consider why you are generating the Safety Plan in the first place. It could be for a construction project or for your school or community organization. Therefore it may have different purposes. Think about what the purpose of your Safety Plan is going to be. Will it be to communicate the rules and regulations to your team of people? If so, then ensure that your document is easy to read.

Let us take a look at some specific items that could be in a Safety Plan. Obviously a plan like this is going to address issues that could be hazards to your team. For example, it may outline details on how to handle a bomb threat or suspicious package. Then it may also have information regarding emergency services, response plans and incident tracking sheets.

A comprehensive plan that considers all safety aspects is going to allow you to manage your organization better for those unseen events.

Unique Hand Railings

Today, hand railings can be more than a way to provide safety. They can provide a dividing line between two living spaces or accent a garden. Even changing balusters can give an old railing a new and dramatic look. Balusters come in many different varieties and are what create the railings. Balusters can be made of wood, iron or a plastic polymer. In some instances, glass has been used to produce unique hand railings.

Wood balusters are available in many patterns. Some common ones have a square top and bottom with a spindle-shaped middle. The middle section may have small grooves at the top or bottom giving it a more elegant look. Some wood balusters are tapered at the top and others have intricate patters carved into them. Spiral grooves are a very attractive variation that produces a Victorian type accent to the hand railing.

Iron balusters come in many attractive shapes including scrolls, twists and shapes including hearts and open spheres. When looking at iron balusters consider combining more than one style. By arranging more than one baluster together to create a pattern, the hand railing that is created will be unique and an interesting accent to the décor. Iron balusters can be exchanged for the existing balusters to refresh an existing hand railing.

Railings today provide more than safety in modern homes. Railings are used to separate living areas. This opens up a new avenue for other materials. By exchanging balusters for glass, a stunning accent can be created. Glass can be difficult to work with and precise measurements are required. Making a pattern out of cardboard could help ensure a proper cut. Glass is expensive and a small measurement error can be costly.

Choosing a reputable glass company is important, not only for quality, but for safety as well. Should you choose to use glass for the handrail keep in mind that there is no room for error. The glass has to fit inside the upper rail tightly and yet swing into the groove in the bottom. It has to fit snugly so that it will remain stable after completion. If the railing does not use fillet to hold the glass in place, this will become a more difficult project. It is possible to do, but will require more effort and time.

Hand railings no longer need to be standard. With the choices of turned balusters, the many variations of iron balusters and the availability of frosted, patterned and colored glass; a hand railing can be the main focal point of any room.

Choosing Components for Deck Railing Plans

A deck railing component is very important in creating the deck railing plan that will offer your deck its finishing touches. There are a number of different components in creating the perfect deck railing.

One deck railing component is the baluster. These are, essentially, the small post type structures that are placed in between the larger posts. They come in various styles like pickets and spindles. Traditional decks are built with two by two wooden balusters. For most homeowners, now, though, this doesn’t cut it. They want something less traditional. People choose different materials, such as aluminum, iron, PVC, glass, or other metals. Aluminum is popular because there are many different color choices, and they are essentially maintenance free. Glass is also gaining in popularity. It is available in a number of different tinting options, and it is see-through, so the view from a beautiful deck is unobscured. More than just material, though, people choose different styles for their balusters. Some go for that classic look, while others look into various architectural styles like colonial or Victorian.

Another deck railing component is the connectors. Connectors are used for various purposes in deck railings. They connect the railings to each other, the wall, and the deck stairs. Connectors are also used to connect the baluster to the top and bottom rails. As with the rails themselves, they come in a variety of colors and styles. Connectors can be made from iron, wood, various other metals, or PVC. The most important thing to remember when considering connectors is a good support system. Connectors make the deck railing strong, so if they’re not creating strong support for the deck as a whole, it is essential to come up with another connector option.

One final piece of deck railing component are the deck accessories. Accessories make your deck railing look unique. There are centerpiece accessories for the balusters. These come in a variety of different designs ranging from traditional architectural designs to family crests, animals, and nature designs. There are also post top accessories. Traditionally, these include post caps of various colors, shapes, sizes, and designs, and finials built of various materials. Both are designed to screw directly into the post top. There are many different types of deck railing components. Be sure to choose the right components for your deck railing plan.

Swimming Pool Fence Designs

We all know how quickly young children can get into trouble. When this happens around a swimming pool, the results can be tragic.

Around the world governments are now enforcing strict laws that require all swimming pool owners to fence off any pool or body of water they may have on the property, with the minimum 1.2 metre height rule seeming to be the consensus.

There is now a great range of materials available that modern fencing and balustrade designers are utilizing. They are innovating the art of swimming pool fences and are able to incorporate toughened glass or more traditional steel designs that blend in with the surroundings, while still maintaining function.

A well thought out swimming pool fence design will be aesthetically pleasing, secure and ultimately add value to the house. Hi-tech aluminum materials are slowly gaining more interest. They have benefits over steel, will not corrode, are easier to erect and maintenance in general is easier.

Be sure to consult with a pool fence company on the options available and what is recommended for your particular environment. They are trained and experienced in maximising the visual effect of the fence or balustrade while maintaining the ambiance of the space. This desired outcome is really evident where toughened glass balustrades are chosen over the regular steel fence type, due to the aesthetics of this type of fence.

Look through the portfolio’s of the companies in your area and ask around friends and family that already have fencing installed on their property.

Baby Safety Gate Information To Ensure Your Child Is Safe

A baby safety gate keeps small children from accessing some parts of your household that is considered unsafe. There are areas in your home that can pose a great threat in the safety of your child like the staircases, or doorways. So, you should take certain measures in avoiding accidents from taking place.

What are the types of baby safety gate?

There are two basic types of safety gates:

The more common of the two is pressure mounted gates. It uses opposite forces of tensile pressure to maintain its position. Meaning, you extend the gate wide enough that it will fit in a doorway so that the pieces will press against the wall. While it is very affordable and portable, there’s a chance that an older child can push it off the wall as it is not bolted into anything. Also, since it is tall, it needs to be removed in case an adult passes through. However, this would be perfect for doorways, but it is not quite advisable for the stairs.

The hardware mounted baby safe gate is basically mounted to the wall with bolts and screws. Even as this model can’t be easily removed by heavier children, the attachment of this gate is permanent, and it is not portable as the other kind.

10 Ways to Increase Business With Web Video

Obviously, online video is here to stay. With 79% of businesses surveyed currently employing some type of website video tactic, it’s clear that most businesses are beginning to embrace internet video advertising. But there is a lot more that can be done with an online video ad than just sticking it on your website. In fact, if used correctly, a web video will increase your sales exponentially – generally a minimum of 38%, and an average of 71%.

By taking the steps below, you will ensure that your internet video performs more like an advertising agency, and less like a simple website video.

1. Add video to your website homepage – This is obviously the first thing you should do with a video that is designed to generate interest about your business. Many website visitors are looking for, and expecting, a video on your website. And those who are not looking for a video are going to watch it anyway out of curiosity. No one can resist a ‘play’ button. Place your video prominently on the home page, preferably at the very top, for best results.

2. Use the ‘DIME’ method: Dazzle, Inform, Market, and Educate – DAZZLE visitors with a professional quality video. A higher quality video adds more credibility than simply you in front of a webcam. INFORM visitors about your products and/or services. MARKET those products and services by including a call to action, and EDUCATE visitors on the benefits of choosing your business to supply their needs.

3. Answer Frequently Asked Questions – You know your customers better than anyone else, and you probably get the same questions over and over again. Those questions that you and your staff laugh about because you get them so much…answer those questions in a short video before your visitor can even ask. Now you’ve taken all the guess work out of their visit to your site, and they’re ready to buy.

4. Product Demos – Whether you sell a tangible product, or an intangible service, create a brief video demonstrating the product in action, or the process of the service. Seeing things in real-life situations makes the idea of utilizing it more real, and many times can also make a complex product or service easier to understand.

5. Post a Tweet on Twitter or an update on Facebook, and add a link to your video in the post. Not only will everyone on your list get the link, but the search engines are now indexing FB and Twitter, so your video will get even more exposure. The cool thing about this is, you can come up with a different reason everyday to link to your video. Or better yet, make it part of a signature that’s included in every post or tweet.

6. Create a Squidoo Lens – Basically, Squidoo is a powerful site that Google and other search engines love. The pages (called ‘Lenses’) can be listed in the search results very fast when created well. This subject is a bit complex, but exploring it further is definitely worth your time.

7. Post to multiple video sharing websites – This is one of the best ways to increase search engine rankings and website traffic. Utilizing a service like Tubemogul, you can simultaneously post your video to several video sharing websites at once. Doing so will give your video massive exposure very quickly, and will also dramatically increase search engine placement due to the multiple sources hosting it.

8. Video SEO – When posting your video to multiple video sharing websites as discussed above, use video SEO techniques. This simply means creating your titles and descriptions using the keywords related to your business that you want to target. Taking it a step further, try creating your descriptions using your most frequently asked questions. This way, when a prospect types in that question in a search engine, it will bring up your video right away.

9. Post comments on blogs with link – Find blogs with a related theme to your business, and post a comment that includes a link to your video. For example, if you were a website designer reading this article right now (as a blog post) you might comment “Gr8 tips on video marketing! I just posted a video about interactive website elements including video. Check it out at (add your website address). Besides exposing your video to a whole new audience, you also generate quality backlinks that boost search engine placement and increase traffic.

10. Make a DVD of your video – Why? Have you ever received a free DVD and not watched it? Probably not. There is a perception of value attached to physical DVD’s that should not be overlooked. Spindles of blank DVDs are super affordable, and DVDs can be burned right on most computers nowadays. Prospects can watch your DVD on a TV or computer, DVDs build credibility since they are perceived as ‘expensive’ and ‘quality’, DVDs are more interactive and involve more senses than a brochure, and the list goes on and on.
